Kathy J. Swisher passed away at Meadowlark Hospice House in Manhattan, Kansas February 27, 2024. Kathy was born April 7, 1958 in Abilene, Kansas the daughter of Chester and Eunice Gay. Kathy married Thomas Swisher on November 2, 1991 and to this union two sons were born, Andrew Swisher (Luxi), Kenan Swisher (Jodie).

 Kathy is survived by her sons, her mother and her brother Dennis Gay and sister Sue Smith (Mark). Kathy was preceded in death by her father and husband.

In keeping with Kathy’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no service. Kathy would have wanted to share John 11:25. “Jesus said to her, I am the resurrection and the Life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live.”

Kathy J. Swisher - April 7th, 1958 - February 27th, 2024

Larry Petroski, Sr., 60, of Junction City departed peacefully from this life the evening of Tuesday February 27, 2024 at Stormont Vail Flint Hills Campus surrounded by family following a long battle with COPD.

Larry Lorenzo Petroski, Sr. was born June 1, 1963 to Myrtle K. White and Lorenzo Pelletier in Waterbury, CT. The youngest of five siblings, he graduated from Presque Isle High School in Presque Isle, ME. In 1981, at the age of 18, he enlisted in the United States Army as a Military Policeman, later changing to a unit supply specialist. He was honorably discharged in 1998, having served in Operation Desert Storm and receiving the Bronze Star, Southwest Asia Service Medal with three bronze service stars, and the Kuwait Liberation Medal during his 17 years of service.

At the age of 11 he told Tammy Lagassie he would marry her and nine years later, in 1983, they were married- celebrating their 41st anniversary on February 26th of this year. He was the beloved and proud father of Jammie, Katherine, and Larry Jr. His most important roles were devoted husband, dad and coach of his kids’ sports teams, Pawpaw, and being a father and father figure to those who needed one.

Larry Sr. is survived by his wife of 41 years Tammy Petroski; sons Jammie (Jovy) and Larry Jr.(Christina); daughter Katherine; brothers Albert, Romeo, and Jack; and a grandson, Adam Petroski. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Katherine. 

There will be no services. Interment will be at a later time at Fairview Cemetery in Grandview Plaza so that he and Tammy may rest together forever. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association.

Janine M. Schaich, 66 of Abilene passed away February 27, 2024. She was born November 10, 1957 in Clay Center, Kansas, the daughter of Lyle and Beverley (Elssasser) Enyart. She graduated from Chapman High School in the class of 1975. On June 4, 1983 she was united in marriage to Russell D. Schaich at the Faith Lutheran Church in Abilene.

 Janine worked various jobs. She was a Para at the Abilene Middle School and High School. She was also executive director and activity director for the Sterling House. She also worked at Jostens. She was active at the Faith Lutheran Church, playing the organist for years and also was involved in being the youth group leader.

 Janine is survived by her husband, Russell. Her children: Joshua Capsey; Nichole Maddy and Brooke Haley and husband Brian. Grandchildren: Andrew, Hunter, Dylan and Katy Capsey; Lexie, Cara and Macy Maddy and Logan Haley. Her siblings: Jeannette Fenton; Jenise Braden; Collette Crist; Colleen Nicholas; Christine Herrmann; Carla Shaw and Tim Wieters.

 The family has chosen cremation. A Memorial Services will be 10:00 A.M., Saturday, March 2, 2024 at the Faith Lutheran Church in Abilene. Services will be lives streamed on Facebook (Faith Lutheran – Abilene). A private family burial will be at the Greenridge Cemetery near Industry.

Janine M. Schaich

On February 28, 2024 Earl Eugene (Gene) Willich age 79 went to spend eternity with His Lord and Savior. Gene was born January 14, 1945 in Horton, KS. to Otto and Clarice (Keys) Willich. He was a resident of Manhattan since July, 2017 having moved from Hutchinson, KS.

Gene is survived by his wife Sharon (Thompson) Willich of 58 years, a daughter Genae (Greg) Denver of Manhattan; Mike (Cindy)Willich of Shawnee, KS; Corey (Canise) Willich of Lee Summit, Mo.; grandchildren: Danielle (Denver) Wright, Mackenzie Denver, Tyler Willich, Brogen Willich, Cooper Willich and Carson Willich and sister Vanita (Willich) Harlan Hunt of Meriden, KS. He was preceded in death by his parents.

After graduating from Horton High School in 1963, he moved to Topeka to attend Washburn University. During that period he married his high school sweetheart and received his BS in Secondary Education in 1967. He began his teaching career in Sabetha, Kansas but soon returned to Topeka where he taught and coached at Jardine Jr. High. During this period he commuted to Lawrence where he completed an MS Degree at the University of Kansas in Secondary Guidance and Counseling.

This led to Dodge City where he served as a school counselor in both the Jr. and Sr. High Schools, and then an Administrative Assistant at the Area Vocational/Technical School. During this time he picked up several more graduate hours through Fort Hays State University for administration licensing. Gene and his family moved to Hutchinson High School as an Assistant Principal then Wamego High School as Principal.

His final career move was back to Hutchinson High School to serve in the counseling office before retiring after 41 years in education. While at Hutch High Gene served as the public address announcer for many of the school's athletic events, but mostly for the football and basketball games for 20 years. During much of this time he also announced many of the 3A state basketball tournaments, as well as the National Men's Division 1 Community College Tournaments hosted by Hutchinson CC. Gene spent 15 years in prison ministry with the state prison system as a volunteer meeting with inmates who received few, if any, visitors. Like many retired educators, he continued to work part time for the Hutchinson Community College in their Testing Center and substitute teaching at Hutchinson High School.

But the greatest aspect of his adulthood was coming to know God and the salvation of life through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ His Son. Gene served as a teacher, elder and deacon in Dodge City and Hutchinson.

God granted Gene many years to serve and guide Him. Gene particularly appreciated a message by a well know theologian, Max Lucado, who explained life with this thought.

Services will be held at University Christian Church, 2800 Claflin Rd. Manhattan, KS. on Monday, March 4, 2024 at 1&nbsp; p.m.&nbsp; Memorials can be made to University Christian Church, Manhattan Christian College, or Bramlage House-Meadowlark Retirement Community.

Earl Eugene (Gene) Willich

George Alan Tooley passed away peacefully in his sleep in Greeley, Colorado on February 22, 2024, at the age of 92. &nbsp;

George was born on June 17, 1931, to George James and Mary Beatrice Tooley. &nbsp;George attended high school in Russell, KS and graduated from Hill City, KS high school in 1950. &nbsp;George’s parents later moved to Great Bend, KS where George considered home. &nbsp;Upon graduation, George joined the United States Air Force on August 15, 1950, and was stationed at Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas Nevada and Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage Alaska. During his service he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal as well as the Good Conduct Medal. &nbsp;George was honorably discharged on August 14, 1954.&nbsp;

George was introduced to Joyce Marie Murphy by his Dad and the two were united in marriage on April 8th, 1961. &nbsp;Their first born, Chris was born in Farmington, NM. &nbsp;Daughter Kayleen was born two years later in Garden City, KS and one year later daughter Kara was born in Liberal, KS. George and Joyce lived in Liberal until building Joyce’s dream home with a mountain view in Greeley, CO in 2003. George and Joyce moved to Wamego KS in November, 2017. &nbsp;George worked selling life insurance and mutual funds for Jayhawk National Life and Ozark National Life for many years until becoming an independent financial advisor. &nbsp;

A devout Catholic all his life, George was a member of St Anthony’s Catholic Church in Liberal, St Peter’s Catholic Church in Greeley and St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Wamego. George’s business took him and Joyce to many places throughout the world in their almost 62 years of marriage. George’s most beloved hobbies, however, were watching football and the business channel to keep up on the stock market and how his stocks were fairing. &nbsp;George was a kind and friendly man, a gentle Dad and a devoted husband. &nbsp;He loved the Rat Pack and listening to Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. &nbsp;He would, on occasion, boast that he played a hand or two of blackjack next to Dean Martin in Las Vegas. &nbsp;

Survivors include his daughters, Kayleen Hernandez and husband, Stan, Loveland, CO, and Kara Burton and her husband Mike, Wamego, KS; Daughter in law, Leah Tooley, Yukon, OK;&nbsp; Grandchildren Brianna Tooley, Portland, OR, Brett Tooley (Naomi) Windsor, CO, Kylee Millman, Costa Mesa, CA, Shayla McDonough and her husband Neil, Fort Collins, CO, Seth Holle, Wamego, KS, Ethan Holle, Wamego, KS and Great-Grandchildren, Ambrie and Myah Greeley, CO.&nbsp;

George was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Jay, his wife Joyce and his son, Chris Tooley.

A private Burial will be held at St Bernard Catholic Cemetery in Wamego with Fr. Michael Peterson officiating.&nbsp;

Vivian Jegen, 94 of Salina, formerly of Manchester passed away Monday, February 26, 2024. 

She was born March 30, 1929 in Manchester, the daughter of William and Ester (Chase) Gish. She graduated from Chapman High School in 1947. On March 12, 1950 she was united in marriage to John Jegen in Manchester. He preceded her in death January 13, 2005.&nbsp; Vivian grew up in Manchester and she spent all of her married life there until moving to Salina in 2005.

 She is survived by a son, Jonathan Jegen of Salina and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Graveside Services for Vivian will be 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at Keystone Cemetery in Manchester.

Jane Elaine Lamb, age 68, of rural St. George, died February 26, 2024, at her residence.

She was born February 1, 1956, in Lawrence, Kansas, the daughter of Millard and Leola (Bond) Murray.

Jane graduated from Lawrence High School and then earned her bachelor’s degree in Animal Sciences from Kansas State University. On July 22, 1978, she was married to Steve Lamb.

She was a long-time 4-H leader for Bonfire 4-H, was the Riley County Goat Superintendent, and had the honor of being a Life Member of ADGA. She was a member of the St. George United Methodist Church. She provided daycare in her home and had a home cleaning business for several years. She also enjoyed all sports, especially her K-State Wildcats.

Jane loved her family and enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren. She was the loudest cheerleader at all of their events. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed hosting weekly family nights for the whole family.

Steve survives of the home. Additional survivors include her three sons: Barry Lamb, his wife Samantha, Brian Lamb, and Jake Lamb, his wife Lacee; honorary daughter Kachina Gerber and her husband Brandon all of St. George; four siblings: Dennis Murray, Gary Murray, Kathy Hamilton and Jean Eberhart; and nine grandchildren: Logan and Skylar Lamb, Brooklynn, Paislee and McKenna Lamb, Bailee and Ethan Lamb, and Justin and Rylinn Gerber.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents and one brother Mike Murray.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday, March 4th at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel with Pastor Leslye Haller officiating. Private inurnment will be at a later date in the St. George Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 P.M. Sunday, March 3rd, at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home.

Clarence Hubert "Sonny" Ehm, Jr., 80, of Junction City, Kansas died on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at Rossville Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Rossville, Kansas.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 2, 2024 at St. Xavier Catholic Church with Father Kerry Ninemire officiating. The recitation of the rosary will take place at 10:30 a.m. prior to the service. The family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m. prior to the rosary. Cremation has taken place. A private burial will take place following the service at St. Mary's Cemetery.

Sonny was born on November 25, 1943 in Junction City, Kansas, the son of Clarence and Jeanne (Davin) Ehm. After graduating from St. Xavier High School in 1961, he served dutifully in the Kansas National Guard before embarking on a successful real estate career spanning over four decades in Geary County. His commitment to faith was evident through his active involvement in St. St. Xavier Catholic Church, alongside his lifelong memberships in the Knights of Columbus and American Legion Post #45.

On September 19, 1970, he married Linda Martin at St. Xavier Catholic Church. Second only to his beloved bride was Sonny's love of baseball. He played the sport throughout his youth and early adult years, eventually moving into coaching the American Legion Junior Blues and in other capacities for many years. Sonny incorporated baseball into his travels, making it to Fenway Park in Boston, Wrigley Field in Chicago, Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Yankee Stadium in its original glory, and the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York.

Sonny is survived by his loving wife Linda of Junction City, Kansas; one son, Jon (Laura) Ehm of Kailua Kona, Hawaii; one daughter, Tiffany Ehm, of Coatesville, Pennsylvania; two grandchildren, Finley and Erris Melvin; one sister, Karen Blanken of Topeka, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Mary "Christy" Wilhite.

John Anthony Grant, 92, of Junction City, Kansas, passed away on February 24, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on July 15, 1931, to Richard Sr. and Mary (Krynest) Grant in Junction City, Kansas. He grew up with six siblings, three brothers and three sisters. While growing up, his mother and father made sure to teach the importance of family which he carried on throughout his life.&nbsp; John graduated from St. Xavier Catholic High School. He was involved in many activities and lettered in basketball. After graduating, he enlisted in the United States Air Force serving in Korea. On February 5, 2003, he married his long time friend Maria Kolossa and they spent 21 years together.

John is survived by his loving wife, Maria; one daughter, Cindy (Mark) Schnitzlein of Ohio; one son, Mark of Ohio; one granddaughter, Athena (Joe) McConnell of Florida; four great-grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.He was preceded by his parents, six siblings, Richard Grant Jr., Katherine Northrop, Elizabeth Pierce, Margaret Erbe, George Grant, and James Grant and one great-grandson, Trenton McConnell.

John was a family man and always put God and family first. Family requests memorial contributions to go to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or St. Xavier Catholic Church.

John Anthony Grant

Lyle Dale Barker of Chapman Kansas, went to be with the Lord on February 22, 2024.

Lyle was born the 6th of 7 children on July 10, 1940, in Stilwell OK. He spent most of his childhood and teenage years in McPherson KS, where he was known as “Punch” by his family members. He graduated from Emporia State Teacher’s College where he met the love of his life, Trudy Seaton. They moved to California in 1964 where they were married and both started their teaching careers. Over the next several years, they started their family, moved to Colorado and then to St. Louis, where he worked for the Defense Mapping Agency as a cartographer. He was transferred to Washington D.C. in 1989 and finished his career there in 1996. 

After retirement, they moved back to Chapman to the farm. Lyle loved to fish with his children and grandchildren and will always be remembered for his “cat” like reflexes. He loved to play cards with his friends at the Senior Center and was known for “shooting the moon.” He served on the board of the Chapman Senior Center and was also a board member of the Chapman Lions Club. He was also an active member of Chapman Methodist Church.

Lyle is survived by his wife, Trudy (Seaton) Barker, a daughter Rachel Thrash (Thad), a son Gregory Barker (Lesa) and a son Bradley (Lea), seven grandchildren and 1 great grandchild, 2 brothers, Vernon and Bob and a sister, Peggy Brower. He was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Rose (Casebeer) Barker, and 3 brothers, Raymond, George and Gene.

Memorial Services for Lyle will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 1, 2024 at the Chapman First United Methodist Church. Inurnment will follow at the Rinehart Cemetery, rural Chapman. Family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5-7 p.m. at Londeen-Overlease Funeral Chapel.

Kim Michelle Lake of Abilene, KS died February 22, 2024, from complications of Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis.

Kim was born on October 18, 1959, in Abilene, KS to Bernice (Barlow) Davis Abbott. Kim was adopted by Robert Davis and his loving family after the union of Robert and Bernice. Kim lived her entire life in Abilene, graduating from Abilene High School in 1977. Kim attended Cloud Community College. On July 19, 1980, Kim married James Ray Lake. Jim and Kim had two children, Jeremy Ryan Lake and Jessica Robin Lake. The couple were married for 43 years.

Kim worked for Duckwall ALCO for 34 years until its closing in 2015.&nbsp; In 2015, Kim started working remotely for Orscheln Farm and Home as a PC Technician. Kim made many lifelong friends while working. She medically retired on April 29, 2022. Kim enjoyed working in her flower garden, watching the Kansas City Chiefs with Jim’s grandma, Leona Stammeyer, listening to Elvis tunes, fishing at Milford Lake, spending time with her brothers and sisters and playing with her children and grandchildren. Kim and Jessica had grand adventures across the US; diamond mining, hot air ballooning, gambling in Las Vegas, shopping at the US’s largest mall, sampling teas at Celestial Seasonings, emerald and ruby mining in the Carolina’s, attending renaissance festivals, whitewater rafting, touring national parks, camping and horseback riding in the Colorado mountains, viewing movies, dinner theaters, Broadway plays, and zoo trips.

Kim is survived by husband Jim; daughter Jessica; three grandchildren; Brianna Lake , Kohen Luchsinger, and Bryce Dickerman and three great granddaughters; Lavaeh Burdine, Palmer and Aurora Moffith; siblings; Chris (Roxie) Davis of Salina KS, Lisa (Al) Wal of Chino Valley AZ, Curt (Lori) Davis of Delphos KS and Julie (Dean) Gier of Wichita KS; Mother-in-law Vivian Lake, sister-in-law Kimberly Lake, many loved family members, and Shaun the beloved family dog.Kim was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Allen Abbott; grandparents OC and Elma Barlow &amp; Darrell and Arlene Davis; son, Jeremy; brother, Mark A. Kaye Frances Eveleth (Murphy) 83 of Abilene, left her earthly life on February 22, 2024 at Memorial Hospital in Abilene.

 Kaye was born April 30, 1940 in Long Beach California to Warren and Melva (Fisher) Murphy. Kaye grew up in Dickinson County and attended Chapman High School graduating with the class of 1958.Kaye met her husband to be on a blind date and following graduation from high school John Alvin Eveleth and Kaye were married on October 26, 1958. To this union three sons were born. Warren Kent Eveleth, Terry Lee Eveleth, and Perry Dee Eveleth who died at birth.

Kaye was active in the Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years and served several times as Worthy Grand Martha. For over 40 years as a member of the Daughters of the Nile serving as Queen in 1994. Kaye and John were enjoyed traveling for the ISIS Shrine for many years. Kaye and John were members of Emanuel Church in Abilene. Kaye had worked for 17 years at Vacu-Blast, and 17 years at the Duckwall-Alco warehouse. She also filled in as receptionist and Waitress at Brown Memorial Home, and Frontier Estates as well as helping her son Kent at the Shamrock Cafe in Chapman.

Surviving Kaye are here sons, Warren “Kent” of Abilene and Terry Eveleth of McFarland, Kansas. Kaye was preceded in death by her parents and her husband John and Infant son Perry.

Memorial services for Kaye will be held Thursday February 29th, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at the Danner Funeral Home 501 N. Buckeye. The family will receive friends from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m.&nbsp; preceding the service at the funeral home. Inurnment will follow the service at the Abilene Cemetery.

Kaye Frances Eveleth (Murphy) 

Kelly Junius Peterson, 36, of Wichita, Kansas, passed away on February 11, 2024. Born in Manhattan, Kansas, on June 15, 1987, Boogie was known for his sensitive nature and his love for cats. He cherished his friends and family deeply.

Kelly, a graduate of Manhattan High School, class of 2006, was an artist from a young age. His passion for drawing started with dinosaurs and evolved to include Batman, the Joker, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, manga, anime, and traditional comics. In high school, he founded an anime activity group that later became an official club, where he served as the first president. Comic conventions, Harry Potter, Doctor Who, Pokémon, and karaoke were among his favorite pastimes.

Boogie is survived by his parents, Kyle and Penny Peterson, his sister and brother-in-law, Kira and David Cook, his uncle Kerry Peterson, aunt and uncle Kevin and Kay Peterson, aunt Jennifer Smith Harvey, and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Walter and Doris Peterson, maternal grandparents Emmett Sr and Marilyn Engstrom, maternal grandmother Judy Smith, and uncles Emmett 'Cass' Engstrom Jr and Kirk Peterson.

A visitation is scheduled for March 2nd, 2024, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Miratsky Memorial Parkview, 1317 Poyntz Ave, Manhattan, KS. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Boogie will be dearly missed by all who knew him, as his artistic talent and kind heart left a lasting impact on those around him. May he rest in peace.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Walter and Doris Peterson, maternal grandparents Emmett Sr and Marilyn Engstrom, maternal grandmother Judy Smith, and uncles Emmett 'Cass' Engstrom Jr and Kirk Peterson.A visitation is scheduled for March 2nd, 2024, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Miratsky Memorial Parkview, 1317 Poyntz Ave, Manhattan, KS. Dan Cravens, age 78, of Westmoreland, died February 18, 2024, in Topeka, KS.

He was born in Westmoreland, KS, on July 25, 1945, the son of William Harvey Cravens and Catherine Muller.

Dan enjoyed fishing and playing pitch; he especially loved horses and rodeos.

Dan is survived by his nephews, Ray and JW, nieces Vicky, Barbra, Lisa,&nbsp; Angie, Jamie, Brenda, and several great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Jim Cravens, sisters Alice Thomas and Catherine Allen, and nephew David.

Bernie (Bud) William Eidson Jr., age 73, died on February 5, 2024, in Muskogee, Oklahoma.

Bernie was born on March 6, 1950, in El Dorado, KS, the son of Bernie William Eidson Sr. and Betty Mae (Baum) Mealor.

At 18 years old, he joined the Army, serving in the Vietnam War; once he returned home, he married Janice May Fairchild in El Dorado on August 16, 1971. &nbsp;They later divorced. &nbsp;He has two sons, Albert and Donovan. &nbsp;

He worked for Willbros Pipeline, drove for ABF, and had his own Stone Masonry business that he did on the side.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Bernie enjoyed going to auctions, hunting, and fishing and was a collector of Hot Wheel cars. His collection was over 7,500. He was a big sports fan, especially football and baseball, and liked playing golf.

He is survived by his sons, Albert William (Shannon) Checotah, Oklahoma, and Donovon Wade (Angie) Lufkin, Texas; and his brother, Ralph Mealor Jr. El Dorado.; Sisters Sharon (Robert) Kelsey of Wamego and Teresa (Steve) Booth of El Dorado. &nbsp;Grandchildren: Kash, Cameron (Rae), Tyler, Amber, and Autumn. Great-grandchildren, Sebastian, Maverick, Spencer, Ellie, Carley, Kenna, Lily, and Charlotte, and several nieces and nephews, and finally his dog, Sissy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers David, Claude, and Clyde, and sisters Helen Haworth, Mildred Hensman, Opal Foster, and Wilma Butler.

Beatrice Anna Luedtke, 90, of Junction City, Kansas passed away on Monday, February 26, 2024 at Valley View Senior Life Center in Junction City.

Beatrice was born April 21, 1938, in Illasi (Verona) Italy, the daughter of Alfonso and Pierina (Gugole) Fusa.Beatrice was a self employed janitoress in Junction City for many years. She was a Jehovah's Witness. She enjoyed reading the bible and teaching people bible teachings. Beatrice enjoyed cooking, growing a garden and taking care of her peach tree and flowers. She was known for her hospitality and entertaining people and fixing her famous lasagna and her homemade pies.&nbsp; Beatrice enjoyed taking walks. On her walks, she would pick up aluminum cans to recycle. She was known as "Eagle Eye" because she could spot a coin from far away.

Survivors include her daughter, Lois P. Luedtke of Junction City, Kansas; one brother, Dino Fusa of Italy; two sisters, Adriana Lipani and her husband Robert of McKinney, Texas and Gabriella Magee of Tampa, Florida; many nieces and nephews.&nbsp;&nbsp;

William "Bill" Ellsworth Kelley, 91, of Junction City, Kansas died on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka, Kansas.

The family will receive friends 5:00-6:30 p.m. Monday, March 18, 2024 at the Johnson Funeral Home. Per his wishes, cremation will take place. A memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at the Junction City Church of the Nazarene (JCNAZ) with Pastor Mark Hatcher officiating.&nbsp; A private graveside service will follow the service at Highland Cemetery.

He was born on June 2, 1932, on a farm near Norcatur, Kansas to Claude and Dorothy (Davidson) Kelley. Bill served as Trooper with the Kansas Highway Patrol for nearly twenty five years. As a State of Kansas Trooper, he served areas in Holton, Atwood, Goodland and Junction City, Kansas. He later served as an Undersheriff with Geary County for twelve years. Bill served in the United States Army. Later he served in the Kansas National Guard retiring as an E-7 after twenty years of service. He also attended Kansas State University and was an active member of the Junction City Church of the Nazarene.&nbsp; Bill was a member of the Masonic Lodge #42 AF &amp; AM, Kansas Peace Officers Association and Kansas State Troopers Association.

On May 4, 1957, he married Betty June Heilman at Fort Collins, Colorado. She died in 2022. William is survived by his loving sons, Brian Kelley of Norcatur, Kansas, Mark Kelley of Dodge City, Kansas, Brad (Susan) Kelley of Perris, California, Troy (Diana) Kelley of Shawnee, Kansas; Daughter-In-Law, Jana Kelley of Cypress, Texas; three granddaughters, Claire (Aaron) Elson of Cypress, Texas, Bailey (Aaron) Heinrich of Perris, California, Courtney Kelley of Perris, California; Two Grandsons, Zachary Lyman of Perris, California, Lance Kelley of Shawnee, Kansas; Two Great-Granddaughters, Lilly, Evelyn; one brother, Dick (Donna) Kelley; two sisters, Carolyn Plotts, Katherine Vanzandt; one sister-in-law, Linda Kelley.

Lorene M. Kendall, age 95 of Keats, passed away Thursday, February 22, 2024, at Via Christi Village in Manhattan.

She was born on March 31, 1928, on the family farm outside of Keats, the daughter of Oliver and Bertha (Weller) Nelson. &nbsp;She graduated from Leonardville High School in 1946.

On May 4, 1951, in Riley, she married Ronald Kendall. &nbsp;He preceded her in death in 2005.

Lorene worked at the Sikes Store in Leonardville following high school and then became a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell in Manhattan. &nbsp;After the birth of their son, she stayed home for several years to be a mother. &nbsp;She went back to work for U.S.D. 383 in the food department and worked at Eugene Field, Amanda Arnold, and finally at the central location on Hayes Drive. &nbsp;She retired in June of 1999.

She was a member of the Keats Lydia Chapel, where she played the piano for many years, Keats UMW, and the Silver Creek Beneficiary Club. &nbsp;She enjoyed going to car shows, auctions, and taking bus tours around the United States and even into Canada. &nbsp;She loved to sew and was a wonderful seamstress.

She is survived by her son, Wayne Kendall of Keats and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Dail Nelson and Wendall Nelson.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 28, 2024, in the Riley Cemetery with Pastor Kevin Larson officiating. &nbsp;The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.

Kenneth G. Stettnisch

Mary Theresa (Levendofsky) Michels, 94, met the Lord on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, Lawrence, Kansas. She was born January 29, 1930 in the St. Joseph Hospital in Concordia, Kansas. Mary was born the fourth of seven children to Frank and Ella Levendofsky of rural Belleville, Kansas. She was baptized at St. Edwards Catholic Church in Belleville, Kansas and was presently a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Clifton, Kansas. She was raised on a farm six miles Northwest of Belleville, Kansas until she married Marvin C. Michels on June 6, 1953.&nbsp;

She taught school in Milner, Springhill, Munden, and Clifton-Clyde, Kansas, elementary districts. She retired in May of 1993 after teaching 41 years. After retirement she continued substitute teaching for an additional 26 years, until the age of 89. She received her BS and MS degrees from Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas. She moved to Lawrence, Kansas in December of 2019.

Mary was preceded in death by her father and mother, Frank and Ella (Hurley) Levendofsky; husband Marvin C. Michels; brother Lawrence and wife Gladys Levendofsky, brother Francis and wife Iolene Levendosfky, brother George Levendofsky, brother John Levendofsky; brothers-in-law Dale Michels, Leonard and wife Mae Prellwitz, Edwin Scofield; sister-in-law Harriet Levendofsky; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Carl and Ester (Orter) Michels.&nbsp;

Left to mourn are her three sons; Greg and wife Lea, Larry and wife Diane, and Scott and wife Marilyn; eleven grandchildren; Stephen and wife Julane Michels, Ashley and husband Marcus Herrera, Morgan Michels and partner Nicholas Holmes, Chantel Clock, Ryan and wife Natalie Michels, Caleb and wife Abi Michels, Matthew Michels and fiance Rachael Terry, Cara Michels, Faith Michels, Tyler and wife Melissa Michels, and Bethany and husband Lucas Fornelli; fifteen great-grandchildren; Stephen Michels, Maxton Herrera, Myers Herrera, Isla Herrera, Hazel Holmes, Jasmine Clock, Jaden Clock, Braden Michels, Weston Michels, Colt Michels, Piper Michels, Lane Michels, Jewel Michels, Ruby Michels, and Brooks Fornelli; sister Ellen Scofield, brother Paul Levendofsky, and sister-in-laws Fayrene Levendofsky, Marilyn Levendofsky, and Mitzi Michels.&nbsp;

She will be missed by her family, nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and her precious friends. Mary had a happy childhood where she learnt to work hard, be a respectful person, and developed her very big personality. Throughout her life she enjoyed gardening, cooking, her sons sports, and church. Many people knew Mary by the name, Meme, which she obtained from her niece. She had a loving married life of 55 years which included three boys. She loved raising her boys and seeing them learn to make their lives what they are today with their families. She was most proud of this, being a Mom.&nbsp;

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, March 1, 2024 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Clifton, Kansas. There will be a vigil service at 7 p.m.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;

She was born January 29, 1930 in the St. Joseph Hospital in Concordia, Kansas. Mary was born the fourth of seven children to Frank and Ella Levendofsky of rural Belleville, Kansas. She was baptized at St. Edwards Catholic Church in Belleville, Kansas and was presently a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Clifton, Kansas. She was raised on a farm six miles Northwest of Belleville, Kansas until she married Marvin C. Michels on June 6, 1953.&nbsp;She taught school in Milner, Springhill, Munden, and Clifton-Clyde, Kansas, elementary districts. She retired in May of 1993 after teaching 41 years. After retirement she continued substitute teaching for an additional 26 years, until the age of 89. She received her BS and MS degrees from Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas. She moved to Lawrence, Kansas in December of 2019.Mary was preceded in death by her father and mother, Frank and Ella (Hurley) Levendofsky; husband Marvin C. Michels; brother Lawrence and wife Gladys Levendofsky, brother Francis and wife Iolene Levendosfky, brother George Levendofsky, brother John Levendofsky; brothers-in-law Dale Michels, Leonard and wife Mae Prellwitz, Edwin Scofield; sister-in-law Harriet Levendofsky; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Carl and Ester (Orter) Michels.&nbsp;Left to mourn are her three sons; Greg and wife Lea, Larry and wife Diane, and Scott and wife Marilyn; eleven grandchildren; Stephen and wife Julane Michels, Ashley and husband Marcus Herrera, Morgan Michels and partner Nicholas Holmes, Chantel Clock, Ryan and wife Natalie Michels, Caleb and wife Abi Michels, Matthew Michels and fiance Rachael Terry, Cara Michels, Faith Michels, Tyler and wife Melissa Michels, and Bethany and husband Lucas Fornelli; fifteen great-grandchildren; Stephen Michels, Maxton Herrera, Myers Herrera, Isla Herrera, Hazel Holmes, Jasmine Clock, Jaden Clock, Braden Michels, Weston Michels, Colt Michels, Piper Michels, Lane Michels, Jewel Michels, Ruby Michels, and Brooks Fornelli; sister Ellen Scofield, brother Paul Levendofsky, and sister-in-laws Fayrene Levendofsky, Marilyn Levendofsky, and Mitzi Michels.&nbsp;She will be missed by her family, nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and her precious friends. Mary had a happy childhood where she learnt to work hard, be a respectful person, and developed her very big personality. Throughout her life she enjoyed gardening, cooking, her sons sports, and church. Many people knew Mary by the name, Meme, which she obtained from her niece. She had a loving married life of 55 years which included three boys. She loved raising her boys and seeing them learn to make their lives what they are today with their families. She was most proud of this, being a Mom.&nbsp;Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, March 1, 2024 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Clifton, Kansas. There will be a vigil service at 7 p.m.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Clifton, Kansas. Interment will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.&nbsp;In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions to be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church, Clifton, Kansas and/or Clifton Ball Association, Clifton, Kansas, can be sent in care of the funeral home, 918 7th St. Clay Center, Kansas 67432.

Mary Theresa (Levendofsky) Michels

Judith Dee Raymann, age 86, passed away on Thursday, February 22, 2024 at the Good Shepherd Homecare and Hospice House, Manhattan, Kansas. She was born on July 3, 1937 in Bicknell, Indiana and was the daughter of Sanford and Barbara Boyd.

Judith worked in property management before retiring and was a resident of Manhattan for ten years. She enjoyed her grandkids and was a very loving grandmother.

Judith is survived by her son, William P. (Rebbeca) Raymann, Manhattan, KS; a daughter, Coleen A. Raymann, Los Angeles, CA; grandchildren, Amie, Christopher, Julia, Amanda, Sophia, Laura, Michael, and Peter Raymann.

She was preceded in death by both parents and a brother, Richard Boyd.

Services will be held at a later date by the family.

Judith Dee Raymann

Donald Eugene Younkin was born in Manhattan, Kansas, the son of Frank and Sarah Younkin on September 19, 1929. He passed away on February 22, 2024.

Donald enjoyed a full life. He served his country well while in the United States Army. He returned to Manhattan to manage the local hardware store until his retirement.

He was united in marriage to Kathryn Brenner on December 29, 1950. They enjoyed over 73 years together. They spent time traveling, sharing time with their family, spending time outdoors and often walking the local mall. Don thought the world of Kathryn and cared for her up until the day of his passing.

Don is survived by his wife Kathryn; two sons, Terry and is wife Belle of Spring, Texas, and James and his wife Glenda of Manhattan, Kansas; also, his sister Shriley Shreve of Dallas, Texas; his many grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

The family will greet friends during a visitation from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Thursday February 29, 2024 at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home in Manhattan.

Funeral services will be following the visitation starting at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will be held at the Sunset Cemetery in Manhattan.

Donald Eugene Younkin

William Charles “Bill” Girard, age 79, of Manhattan, died February 22, 2024, at his residence, with his wife and children by his side.

One of six children, Bill was born September 16, 1944, in Concordia, Kansas, the son of Gaspard Julian and Alma Beatrice (Ribordy) Girard. On September 1, 1967, in Manhattan, he was married to Mary P. Roberts. Together they raised their three children, Susan, Sandi, and Andrew.

Bill graduated from Clyde High School in 1962 and attended Kansas State University. He worked for Cash Lumber and Hardware for nearly 20 years and then for 26 years at Kansas State University as the Renovation Group Manager for Housing and Dining Services, retiring in 2017. Bill was tremendously hard-working and talented in all areas of construction. Whether he was building his family home, where they have resided for 45 years, building the family pool, making furniture and toys for his children and grandchildren, or working with Mary handcrafting small items for their craft business, Bill’s talents were endless, and he was tireless and loving in providing for his family.

In his younger years, Bill enjoyed travelling the region, packing the family in their camper, and racing in motorcycle scrambles each weekend. Bill was the number one ranked racer in Kansas and always described by his competitors as one of the best racers they ever saw. Bill’s racing competitors became close friends and extended family. Bill would light up when reminiscing about those racing adventures and the weekends spent with friends and kids. While he thoroughly enjoyed it, like many of us, some of Bill’s greatest struggles may have been on the golf course. Nonetheless, Bill was a great golf fan and enjoyed playing golf with his friends from work and especially his grandkids. Bill was a huge Elvis fan. His family will always smile remembering his Elvis “snarl”, always followed by Bill’s infectious giggle.

Bill’s greatest love, and his greatest accomplishment, was his family. He was selfless, loving, supportive, and everything that anyone could ask for as a husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Bill will be missed. But more importantly, he will be remembered for all that he was and all that he meant to family,

Mary survives of the home. Additional survivors include his three children: Susan Bloom, Olathe: Sandi Renz (Charles “Skeeter”) Salina: and Andy Girard (Meaghan) Wamego, Eight Grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren with his 8th arriving any day.

Funeral service will be held Friday March 1, 2:00 p.m. at Yorgensen-Melon-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, KS 66502. Visitation with the family will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.

William Charles “Bill” Girard

Ernest Lynn Pugh was born in Clay Center, KS on November 25, 1943 to Ralph and Mabel Pugh.

In his early years, Lynn attended school in St. George, KS. He participated in a variety of activities, including FFA and 4-H, Student Counsel, choir, basketball, football, track, and baseball. He graduated from high school in 1961. He soon enrolled at Crum’s School of Cosmetology in Manhattan, KS. Upon completion, he moved to California where he was an ambulance driver and first responder. When his name came up for military draft, he returned to Kansas and elected to join the U.S. Navy to serve his military time. He served as a corpsman at the naval base in Charleston, SC.

Lynn returned to Kansas after receiving his U.S. Navy discharge and joined the Ironworkers Local Union in Manhattan, KS where he worked on many major building projects at Kansas State University.

On August 15, 1970, Lynn married Cheryl (Cheri) Yapp. After raising their children together, they divorced in 2002.

In 1971, Lynn became a lineman with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company and soon transferred to an installer position. While there, he dabbled in his own landscaping business on the side. He and his family moved to Silver Lake, KS in 1981 where he then transferred to AT&amp;T, working in installation and sales. He was moved to a position in Kirksville, MO where he traveled to and from Kansas for 5 years until accepting a retirement offer. After retirement, Lynn began Pugh Communication Services, a telecommunications company which he ran successfully for 20 years.

Lynn was passionate about the outdoors, an avid hunter, and also tried his hand at farming. He and his family moved to Wamego, KS where his kids finished school. He raised wheat, alfalfa, hogs, and some cattle. There was always a long list of folks wanting to purchase meat when it came time to butcher. Word spread that he had the best pork and beef around and he had repeat customers every year.

He designed and built Red Rock Game Farm, a recreational sporting clay shooting and game farm facility north of Wamego, KS. He enjoyed the sport and comradery of many friends and acquaintances who came to events. He was also a dedicated supporter of Pheasants Forever, Quail Unlimited, Ducks Unlimited, and the National Wild Turkey Federation. He rarely missed a banquet and his presence was known. Lynn sponsored and contributed to many youth activities and held a multitude of benefit fundraisers, contributing much of his own resources when others were in need. He was always giving back to the community and also won several conservationist awards for the work he did at Red Rocks.

Shortly after selling his other businesses, Lynn acquired a liquor store in Wamego, KS. While enjoying his work there, he established his off-the-grid residence near Fostoria, KS where he spent many hours clearing cedar trees and improving the landscape of his 320-acre piece of ‘God’s country.’ He often hosted shooting clay events, wild game cookouts, and also hosted numerous wilderness groups on his land.

After selling his Fostoria property, Lynn returned to the St. George area where he built his last residence and enjoyed the landscape from his 4-wheeler rides and from working on his skid steer. Numerous friends would stop by for a game of cards and to enjoy a cold brew. His friendship is forever remembered by many.
