James Coy Middleton, age 85, of Manhattan, Kansas, died June 19, 2024, at the Good Shepherd Homecare and Hospice House in Manhattan, Kansas.
Coy was born on June 8, 1939, in Kelso, Washington, the son of Robert and Mabel Middleton. He served in the Navy Reserves during his last year of high school. After his high school graduation, he joined the United States Navy, where he was an electrical repair technician. He retired after 21 years of service to his country.
Coy enjoyed going on walks with his walking stick, sometimes a short walk or sometimes a longer walk. He also loved going on outings with his family to Disneyland and on a cruise to Alaska with his late wife Geraldine. He and Nina loved to take trips around the country, and he was the primary driver while on the road.
He was a member of the Westview Community Church in Manhattan, Kansas. Coy and Nina enjoyed serving the community as members of the Manhattan Kiwanis Club.
Coy was proud of being a veteran and serving his country in the Navy. He rode in serval patriotic parades over the years including Memorial Day and Veterans’ Day. Coy was always ready participate in events honoring veterans. He took any opportunity to wear his full-dress navy uniform when he could.
He is survived by his wife Nina Gamotis-Middleton, at their home in Manhattan, Kansas. He also is survived by his children: Ronda Woodruff, James C. Middleton Jr, and Robert Middleton; also, his stepdaughters Kerrie Olson and Jennifer Mulvey; and his grandchildren and step-grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Geraldine; his siblings: Robert, Viva, Myrna, Twylla, and Albert; and his stepdaughter Sherrie Horn.
Memorial services for Coy will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday June 26, 2024, at the Westview Community Church, 615 Gillespie in Manhattan, Kansas with Pastor Brian Smith officiating.
Inurnment will be held in late July in Kelso, Washington, where Coy will be buried back home with his family.
