Gaylon Keith Kintner, son of Keith and Grace Kintner, was born May 28, 1931, in Frankfort, Kansas during the Great Depression. Gaylon attended school through high school in Frankfort. After graduation, he enrolled in Washburn University located in Topeka, Kansas. It is at Washburn where he met and married Kay N. Woodward.
During his college years, he had a dance band, the Gaylon Kintner Orchestra. He played in many different towns throughout the Frankfort area and communities. He also painted houses to put himself through school. He learned the painting trade from his father, Keith, who was a sign/house painter and artist.
After college, he joined the United States Air Force as a JAG officer. He had a distinguished career where he traveled and lived on an array of installations; Texas, Charleston, South Carolina, Forbes, Topeka, Kansas, Orlando, Florida, Adana, Turkey, North Carolina, and Elmendorf Air Force Base.
He was a practicing attorney with his own law office and also taught law school at Fort Riley for Kansas State University.
In the 1980s, he owned a pawn shop and enjoyed owning it through the early 90's.
Gaylon was a Shriner and belonged to many other fraternal organizations.
He was also an avid collector of many things; antiques, coins, stamps, and books. He loved to read and was knowledgeable on many subjects.
He had a dance band again in the 1980s called The Swinging K's where he played many different instruments; the piano, saxophone, and clarinet. The band traveled to several Kansas locations to perform.
In his later years, he enjoyed his collections, reading, and music.
He was preceded in death by his father, Keith Kintner, his mother Grace Kintner, wife Kay N. Kintner, and sister Edith Schroer.
He is survived by his son, Kurt L. Kintner, who had been caring for him the last 4 years until his passing, Daughter Kristine Breck of Alta Vista, a granddaughter Amber Kay Logsdon of Spring Hill, Kansas, a great-grandson Mack J. Percy and step-grandson Evan Logsdon, both of Spring Hill, Kansas.
He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews who are all in the Midwest region.
Gaylon was a generous man and he will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be at Parkview Funeral Home in Manhattan, Kansas, 1317 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, KS (66502) from 9 to 11 a.m. with graveside services following at 12:30 p.m. at Frankfort Cemetery in Frankfort, Kansas.
