Harvey Dean Lantz, 84, of Abilene, KS, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2024, at Manhattan Ascension Via Christi.
Harvey was born on March 22, 1940, in Talmage, KS, the son of Ira V. and Florence Mae (Hosteller) Lantz. He spent most of his life in the Abilene area and graduated from Dickinson County Community High School in 1958. On August 10, 1970, he married the love of his life, Karen Paulette Parker, in Haskell, Texas. Harvey was the beloved husband of the late Karen and the father of four sons: Michael (deceased), Kevin of Oberlin, KS, Doug (Marci) of Osborne, KS, and Brian (Karen) of Solomon, KS. Harvey was a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren: Danielle, Colton, Tyler, Dayton, Dawson, Braedyn, and Karter. He is also survived by his siblings Roy, Ivan, and Dorothy, and was preceded in death by his brothers Kenny and Jim.
Harvey had a diverse career that began in farming before he transitioned to a successful career in construction. In his spare time, Harvey passionately pursued woodworking, where he became locally renowned for his meticulously crafted dog houses and shelves. Known for his generosity, Harvey often created these projects as gifts for friends and family, leaving a lasting impression on the community with his craftsmanship and kindness.
Harvey cherished his time spent with family and friends. He enjoyed going to casinos to play slots and frequently traveled to indulge in his love for bingo. He was also a regular at the local coffee shop, where he enjoyed many mornings drinking coffee and chatting with his friends. Later in life, he found great joy in watching his grandchildren pursue their passions, from playing sports to tinkering on vehicles. Harvey had a special place in his heart for family gatherings and was known for his saying, "I only like two types of pie - hot and cold."
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 18, from 5:00– 7:00 p.m. at Danner Funeral Home in Abilene, Kansas. A funeral service will be held at the same location on Wednesday, June 19, at 10 a.m. with Pastor Jason Kohler officiating.
Harvey will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. His legacy of hard work, craftsmanship, and love for his family will live on in the hearts of those he touched.Harvey’s final resting place will be in the Cheever (Henry) Cemetery north of Abilene.
