Peggy A. Stenstrom, 93, of White City, Kansas, passed away on March 7, 2024, at Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan, Kansas.

Peggy was born February 26, 1931, and raised west of White City along the “mighty Mulberry creek” as she called it. 

She said her father told her to be careful of the people that lived east of town, but she found Larkin and was happily married for 61 years. They were married at St. Rose Catholic Church in Council Grove on May 29, 1954.

Peggy was a dedicated teacher. She began her teaching career in a two room school house in Skiddy, Kansas. Peggy eventually graduated from Emporia State Teachers college and earned her Master’s through evening and weekend classes. 

She moved on to teach in White City focusing mainly the on 6th, 7th and 8th grade, usually teaching math and science.

She loved the times with Larkin in Idaho when he served in the Air Force. It was a difficult decision for them to leave the service and Idaho, but they did when Larkin was needed at home on the farm. She embraced teaching during the day and helping on the farm during evening and weekends when needed and always during the summer. When she retired from teaching they continued to farm until they retired in 2011, when Larkin’s health would not allow them to continue. She stayed by Larkin every day when he was moved to a care facility until his passing in 2016.

She was an avid card player and loved to garden and mow. She was always anxious for spring when she could plant her flowers and enjoy them from her back porch. She always had a black dog at her side as her companion. She loved her travels with her family and always felt like a princess when on a cruise ship.

Peggy’s greatest joy was her family. No matter what was going on at school or on the farm, she was always there for her family. She loved hunting season when “her boys” were always there for a few days to spoil and brought unbelievable joy to Christmas when she could host and cook for everyone on Christmas Eve. When her birthday rolled around her preference was to prepare a meal for her family, as they were the gift she loved the most.

She is survived by her two sons, Dr. Mark Stenstrom and his wife Debra of Junction City, Kansas and Dr. Mike Stenstrom and his wife Dr. Kristol of Shawnee, Kansas; five grandchildren, Jeremy Stenstrom and his wife Jamie, Megan Stenstrom, Sofia Stenstrom, Arik Stenstrom, and Kjell Stenstrom; three great-grandchildren, Grayson Stenstrom, Gehrig Stenstrom, and Grisham Stenstrom.

Peggy was preceded by her loving husband and her parents.

A visitation will take place at the Johnson Funeral Home, Wednesday, March 13, 2024, 5:00 - 6:30 p.m. followed by a rosary from 6:30 - 7:00 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church on Thursday, March 14, 2024, 10:30 a.m. officiated by Fr. Frank Coady.

The committal service will be on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at the White City Cemetery, White City, Kansas officiated by Fr. Kerry Ninemire.

Memorial contributions are suggested to be given to the White City Public Library, 111 E MacKenzie St, White City, KS 66872.

Joseph Lee "Joe" Beatty, 65, of Junction City, Kansas was lifted to his heavenly Father on Wednesday, January 17, 2024. Cremation has taken place.

Joseph Lee Beatty was born January 18, 1958, to CSM (Ret.) Samual Junior Beatty and Virginia Lee Beatty in Hannibal, Missouri.

Joe was a busy and well-known man around Junction City. He was a carpenter for many years working in Geary County and contract work on Fort Riley. He also worked in the body shop at Jim Clark Chevrolet. A career that led him to opening and owning a body shop in Junction City. Joe's meticulous eye for detail was seen in both careers he chose.

Joe will always be remembered for his constant and infectious smile and laughter. When not busy working, Joe enjoyed music, fishing, playing cards and entertaining his many friends and family members a barbeques. Joe was continually active in the community as the Vice Commander of The Sons of the American Legion Squadron 45 and a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles.

Joseph is survived by his mother, Virginia Beatty of Junction City; daughter, Brandie Danner; grandson, Bobby Beatty, Jr.; two brothers, George and Mark Beatty of Junction City; one sister, Virginia (Beatty) Roberts; two nieces, Megan and Chelsea; nephew, Shawn Roberts; countless friends and extended family.

Joe is proceeded in death by his father, Samual Beatty; son, Bobby Beatty, Sr., and wife, Vickie J. Downey.

A service will be Friday, March 22, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery officiated by Pastor Will Ravenstein. Following the service at 1:00 p.m., the family and The Sons of the American Legion invite everyone to a Celebration of Life honoring Joe at the American Legion Post 45, 201 E. 4th Street, Junction City, Kansas.

Gary Ryan Parker, 70, of Junction City, Kansas passed away on March 6, 2024, at Stormont Vail - Flint Hills Campus. Cremation has taken place and a private family led service is pending.

Gary was born on November 30, 1953, in Oklahoma. After high school, he decided to enlisted into the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged after eight years of service.

He married his loving wife, Bobbi in 1972 and enjoyed many years together raising their children.He worked for Doss Aviation for many years which allowed him to show case his mechanical gifts.

His family will always remember him sharing his hobbies with them; such as, watching Nascar, reading, and working on old vehicles.

Gary is survived by his wife, Bobbi; two sons, David (Amy) Manges and Gary (Robin) Manges and a host of other loving family and friends.

He is preceded by his parents and one son, Chris Parker.

Gary Ryan Parker

Rebecca Brough passed away peacefully on March 3, 2024, at her home.Rebecca Lorene Brough was born on April 26, 1984 in Junction City, Kansas, the beautiful daughter of Gary and Karen (Birzer) Brough.

Rebecca had her son, Dylan, in 2009. She adored Dylan as he was the pride and joy of her life. Rebecca was with Robert Hagadorn. She loved having a family and caring for his two daughters. They were married from March 2021 through July 2023.

Becca graduated from Junction City High School in the class of 2002. She was a photographer for two years for the school newspaper and a member of the band. She played a baritone saxophone for concerts and was on the Flag Drill Team for Marching Band and was a team captain her senior year. Becca also played on the initial women's soccer team at JCHS in the position as Goalie. Rebecca attended Emporia State University majoring in Fine Arts. She graduated from the Hallmark Institute of Photography in Turners Fall, Massachusetts, which was nationally accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges. Rebecca had a love and passion for photography from childhood throughout her life. She was an expert with her camera and with use of Photoshop.Rebecca had several jobs throughout her career. She worked for local newspapers and for GTM Sportswear as their primary photographer taking pictures for catalogs, advertising, and billboards. She photographed both live models and sportswear. She flipped a house for her mother taking the floors down to the original oak. Rebecca worked for the state child support contractor doing both execution of court orders and fielding phone calls. Her last job with Dillons of Junction City was a favorite. She enjoyed her co-workers and her customers, often meeting people she knew throughout her life. She loved helping people.Rebecca was a creative, cheerful person. She could find joy and love in everything she did. Becca loved her family and her pets. She was most content when she had her dogs and cats with her. She loved a sunny day and being outdoors.

Becca was preceded in death by her father, Gary Brough; her grandparents, Leo and Regina Birzer; her grandmother, Marion Brough and her uncles, Jimmy and Danny Brough.

Stella Willadeen "Willie" Kamm, 97, of Junction City, Kansas passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at Village Manor in Abilene, Kansas.

A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, March 7, 2024, at the First United Methodist Church in Junction City with Reverend Dirk Weiss officiating. Cremation has taken place. Her cremated remains will be buried near Dyer, Arkansas.

Memorial contributions are suggested to be given to the First United Methodist Church or to the Friends of Animals in Junction City.

Willie was born June 26, 1926, in Geary County, Kansas the daughter of Martin M. and Stella (Williams) Kamm.Willie worked for the Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Service Office in Junction City until her retirement. She also worked for the First State Bank and Duckwalls in Junction City. She was a member of First United Methodist Church where she was part of the United Methodist Women and Nimble Fingers. She was also a member of the National Active and Retired Federal Workers organization. Willie enjoyed spending time at the Geary County Senior Center participating with the line dancing group. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting and listening to sports on the radio.

Survivors include several nieces, nephews and many other chosen family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Martin, Lyle, Virgil and Allen; one sister, Virginia and her life long friend, Hazel Rogers.

Stella Willadeen 'Willie' Kamm

Lüise Hagen was born on June 13, 1936, in Salzburg, Austria as the third child of Maria and Franz Enzinger. Lüise grew up with 10 other siblings in a large family and despite the war.

After 7 years of elementary school and 1 year of convent school in Salzburg, she then trained as a kindergarten teacher for 2 years. After her training, she went to Munich and worked there as a kindergarten teacher for the US army.

In the spring of 1958, she met the soldier Russell D. Hagen and they married on October 14 of the same year. They were stationed in Munich until 1961, when they were transferred to NATO Headquarters in Fontainebleau, near Paris, France, until 1964, when they were transferred to New Jersey, USA and Russell was drafted for the Vietnam War.

Lüise always worked as a kindergarten teacher for the US Army during this time. Since 1975, they lived in Junction City, first in the city, then from 1984, in their beautiful home on Old Milford Rd. The beautiful house and the large garden were Lüise's pride and joy and she worked hard on and for this house.

Her dogs and cats were always with her. She had a passion for these animals and also for her Christmas decorations in and around the house. From time to time, Lüise and Russell found time to fly to Switzerland and Austria to visit their family. Lüise and Russell celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on October 14, 1983, in Salzburg with the whole family and it was a wonderful celebration.

In 1999, Lüise was diagnosed with breast cancer and was given a life expectancy of about 3 months! But Lüise was a fighter and she did everything she could to keep on living and she has managed to do so to this day despite the difficult journey.

After 55 years of life together, Lüise had to say goodbye to her beloved husband Russell forever on February 11, 2013. This was a very great loss for her, which she never fully got over. In June 2016, she celebrated her 80th birthday with the whole family in Salzburg. A further and very tragic stroke of fate overtook Lüise on the morning of February 16, 2021, early at 0200 am. Her house, her belongings, everything fell victim to a fire, but the worst thing for Lüise was that her beloved dogs, Lilly and Russell, died in the fire. She never got over it.

In October 2021, Lüise traveled to Switzerland/Austria one last time to see her family. Yes, she was a fighter and always worked hard, even at the ripe old age of 85, she never gave up! But now she was too tired and too ill to fight any longer, she wanted to join her beloved husband, Russell. We therefore say goodbye to Lüise and thank her for the many wonderful encounters and memories.

She had a passion for these animals and also for her Christmas decorations in and around the house. From time to time, Lüise and Russell found time to fly to Switzerland and Austria to visit their family. Lüise and Russell celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on October 14, 1983, in Salzburg with the whole family and it was a wonderful celebration.In 1999, Lüise was diagnosed with breast cancer and was given a life expectancy of about 3 months! But Lüise was a fighter and she did everything she could to keep on living and she has managed to do so to this day despite the difficult journey.After 55 years of life together, Lüise had to say goodbye to her beloved husband Russell forever on February 11, 2013. This was a very great loss for her, which she never fully got over. In June 2016, she celebrated her 80th birthday with the whole family in Salzburg. A further and very tragic stroke of fate overtook Lüise on the morning of February 16, 2021, early at 0200 am. Her house, her belongings, everything fell victim to a fire, but the worst thing for Lüise was that her beloved dogs, Lilly and Russell, died in the fire. She never got over it.In October 2021, Lüise traveled to Switzerland/Austria one last time to see her family. Yes, she was a fighter and always worked hard, even at the ripe old age of 85, she never gave up! But now she was too tired and too ill to fight any longer, she wanted to join her beloved husband, Russell. Shelia K. McDougle, 66, of Junction City, Kansas passed away on Friday, March 1, 2024 at Stormont-Vail Healthcare in Topeka, Kansas.

The family will receive friends 5-6:30 p.m. Monday, March 11, 2024 at the Johnson Funeral Home. Cremation will follow the visitation.

Shelia was born March 18, 1957, in Morton, Mississippi the daughter of J.C. McDougle and Lula Mae Brown.

Shelia was a Jehovah Witness. She worked for Valley View Senior Life for many years. Shelia enjoyed working outside and enjoyed gardening. She loved her family and enjoyed helping others. Shelia was always happy and always put a smile on other people's faces. She loved her pets and shopping with her family.

Survivors include two sons, John (Melissa) Brown and Andre Brown both of Junction City, Kansas; one daughter, Hope Denise (Laurence Springer) Garry-Bey of Inkster, Michigan; two brothers, Victor White and Grady White both of Junction City, Kansas; three sisters, Terrie Sue Brown of Colorado, Theresa Taylor of Junction City, Kansas and Mary McDougle of Morton, Mississippi; one grandson, Andre Tiqueze Baker of Junction City, Kansas; four very close friends, Shelia Armstrong, Lisa, Brett and Rodney; host of nieces and nephews.

James Dale Bennett, 57, of Wamego, Kansas, passed away on Sunday (March 3, 2024) in Manhattan, Kansas.

&nbsp; &nbsp;Born February 4, 1967 in Wamego, James was the son of Wayne M. and Betty Lou Pageler Bennett.

&nbsp; &nbsp;An avid fisherman, James also enjoyed camping and mushroom hunting. He will be remembered for the many fish frys he held for his family and friends.

&nbsp; &nbsp;James had most recently been employed as a ranch hand until his retirement for health reasons.

James Bennett

Elmo F. Hartwick, the son of Robert Hartwick and Pearl Freeland, was born on December 31, 1905, and died on June 6, 1944.

U.S. Army Tech. 4th Grade (TECH4).Elmo F. Hartwick, 38, of Onaga, Kansas, killed during World War II, was accounted for Aug. 21, 2023, as announced by the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) on Feb. 12, 2024.&nbsp;

In June 1944, Hartwick was assigned to Company C, 149th Engineer Combat Battalion in the European Theater of Operations. On June 6, Hartwick was aboard Landing Craft Infantry (Large) 92, along with roughly 200 other servicemembers, en route to land on Omaha Beach in Normandy, France. As LCI-92 steamed toward the shore, it struck an underwater mine, which caused the craft to burst into flames. The craft was also hit by enemy artillery fire, causing an explosion that ignited the ship's fuel stores and instantly killed everyone in the troop compartment. Due to the situation's urgency, it was impossible for others to search for survivors. Hartwick's remains were not accounted for after the war.

Around June 10, members of the 500th Medical Collecting Company examined the wreckage of LCI-92 and noted the burnt remains of servicemen in the troop compartment, where Hartwick and others were last seen. American Graves Registration Command (AGRC), the organization that searched for and recovered fallen American personnel in the European Theater, removed small amounts of remains from LCI-92 and buried them in the United States Military Cemetery (USMC) St. Laurent-sur-Mer.

Beginning in 1946, AGRC analyzed the remains found in LCI-92, segregating them into four separate Unknowns (X-53, X-83, X-83B, and X-83C). Despite their efforts, AGRC were unable to identify the Unknowns at the time and they were interred in Normandy American Cemetery, an American Battle Monuments Commission site in Normandy, France.

In June and August 2021, the Department of Defense and ABMC officials exhumed the comingled remains of the four Unknowns and transferred them to the DPAA Laboratory for analysis.

To identify Hartwick's remains, scientists from DPAA used anthropological analysis. Additionally, scientists from the Armed Forces Medical Examiner System used mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) analysis.

Hartwick's name is permanently recorded on the Walls of the Missing at Normandy American Cemetery in Colleville-sur-Mer, France, along with others still missing from WWII. A rosette will be placed next to his name to indicate he has been accounted for.

Elmo is survived by his niece, Roberta Tessendorf.

Thomas "Tom" Richard Claman Jr., an avid chess player, former Boy Scout and adult Scout leader, harmonica player, respected data analyst, and beloved member of the Manhattan Kansas community, passed away on February 18 2024, at the age of 66. Born January 11th, 1958 in Roswell New Mexico to Kathryn "Kay" Fritz Claman and Thomas "Dick" Richard Claman Senior, Tom was the oldest of nine siblings.

Tom's parents moved often in his youngest years because his Father was a Staff Sargent in the Air Force. By the time Tom was eleven his family moved from Roswell to South Sioux City NE, to Big Springs TX, to Sioux Saint Marie MI, and then back to the Sioux City Iowa area. As Tom entered fifth grade, the family settled in Colorado Springs while his Father finished twenty years in the Air Force stationed at NORAD. His Mother also worked in Civil Service for the Airforce for her 30 plus career. As an adult, Tom lived in several states including Colorado, Illinois, Texas, and Arizona before moving to Salina Kansas in 1997.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents and youngest sister Diane Rivera. He is survived by two former wives, Denise Mallin Wilcox and Trish Steele Hackett, two step-children, Russell and Phillip Steele, and siblings: John (Salina), Teresa (Peyton CO), Norma Lewis (San Diego), Roger (Colo. Sprgs.), Joan (Peyton CO), Nancy (San Diego), and Angela (Peyton CO). He is also an uncle to fourteen nieces and nephews.

Tom graduated from Palmer High School in 1976 and The University of Colorado in 1980, obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration.

Professionally, Tom was a highly skilled database creator and analyst. For the last 17 years he worked in the marketing department for Champion Teamwear (formerly GTM) in Manhattan Kansas. Previous to GTM, he worked at Foot Locker in Junction City, and concurrently as an adjunct Instructor at K-State, Salina. Also, at MarketAide.

Tom loved playing and mentoring others in chess. He was the vice-president of the Kansas Chess Association, last year's Kansas amateur open winner, a long-time host of the Chess Booth at the yearly Renaissance Festival in Bonner Springs KS, a member of the Manhattan Chess Club, and past member of the Salina and Lindsborg Chess Clubs. One of Tom's proudest chess moments was when he was involved in hosting Mikhail Gorbachev's visit to Kansas and the Lindsborg Chess Club for two days in October 2005.

Tom's other interests included many years as a Boy Scout Leader in Salina including Wood Badge recipient and mentoring his step children in all their Boy Scout activities, membership in Colorado, Salina, and Manhattan Optimist Clubs, occasionally playing his harmonicas at open mic or with local bands, and a sixty-year love of science fiction. He was especially fond of all things "Star Trek" from the time of the very first episode in September 1966. Last spring, he greatly enjoyed a multi-day Star Trek Cruise, and he was greatly looking forward to his second Star Trek Cruise this February.

Tom left an indelible mark on his family, friends, and community that will be felt for many years to come.

A memorial service to honor the life and legacy of Tom Claman will be held on March 23rd, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home.

Roberta Surs, age 85, of Manhattan, KS, passed away on February 25, 2024.

She dedicated over 50 years of her life to Universal Securities, where she served as an&nbsp; insurance agent.&nbsp;

She was proceeded in death by her son Kelly Surs, brothers Mike and Pat, her parents Helen and Leo Marks.

Roberta is survived by her loving sons, Kevin and Kasey, who were the pride and joy of her life. Additionally, she leaves behind four cherished grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.

She is also survived by her three sisters: Marjory Myers, Janet Becraft, and Kim Baldwin, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

A private burial service will be held in Ogden, Kansas, where Roberta will be laid to rest.&nbsp;

Roberta Marie Surs

Debra J. Chatelain was born August 24th, 1956, at Manhattan, KS, the daughter of Eugene D. Gering and Johanna N. (Casper) Gering. She passed away Saturday, March 2nd, 2024, at Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale, AR at the age of 67.

She grew up in Manhattan, KS, graduating from Manhattan High in 1974. After graduating High School, she attended Manhattan Area Technical College, and worked as a clerk at Lee &amp; Butel Construction Co.

She was united in marriage to Daniel E. Chatelain on August 21st, 1982.

Mrs. Chatelain was a homemaker and spent her married life devoted to being a mother. She worked as an administrative assistant at Kansas State University and spent over 15 years volunteering; 7 years at the Et Cetera Shop in Weatherford, OK and 8 years at Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs, CO. She loved bowling, ballroom dancing and spending time with her five grandbabies. She will be missed dearly by her family and friends.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Chatelain is survived by two sons, Matthew R. Chatelain and his wife Amanda, Yukon, OK, and Phillip S Chatelain and his wife, Katelyn, Tontitown, AR; three brothers, Dennis R. Gering and his wife Jerry Ann, Overland Park, KS, Alan L. Gering and his wife Leisl, Urbandale, IA, and Andy G. Gering, Manhattan; three grandsons, Peyton, Grayson and Carson Chatelain; two granddaughters Anna and Macy Chatelain; and many other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 8, 2024 from 4:00pm to 8:00 pm at Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home and Cremation at 1317 W. Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, Kansas.

Richard B. “Rick” Aikman, age 66, passed away at his home in Blue Rapids.

Rick was born July 18, 1957, in Osceola, Iowa, the son of Robert and Agnes (Kemp) Aikman. &nbsp;Rick grew up and completed his education at Moreno Valley High School in Riverside, California, graduating in 1975. &nbsp;He moved to Natoma, Kansas in 1981. &nbsp;He also took drafting classes at Beloit Technical College.

In 1992, he met and six months later married his wife of thirty-one years, Karla Aikman. &nbsp;His son Kyle was four and his daughter Krystle was three when he became their dad. &nbsp;He lived in Natoma, Kansas, for thirty-seven years before moving to Blue Rapids in 2017.

When Rick lived in Natoma he worked as a Boom operator for the Prader Construction Pipeline crew out of Russell. &nbsp; His boss couldn’t remember his name, so he would say “go get that guy from Natoma”, and that became his nickname. &nbsp;Rick was a jack of all trades, he did fencing and construction. &nbsp;In the early 1990’s he opened Natoma Wood Works. &nbsp;He made many custom items, including: cabinets, wood boxes, chess boards; you name it he could build it. &nbsp;To name a few things he made, he remodeled the club house in Hutchinson, built one of the bridges and stairways at a campground at Sturgis, and remodeled his and Karla’s home. &nbsp;After making a casket for his dear friend Archie, he was planning on making his own. &nbsp; He didn’t get to. &nbsp;

Rick loved music, he would lay down with the music cranked as loud as it would go and would be in his happy place. &nbsp;Some of his favorites were Jefferson Airplane, Pink Floyd, Grateful Dead, Frank Zappa, Buffalo Springfield and of course Dago. &nbsp;At their wedding, Rick dedicated “Kind Woman” from Buffalo Springfield to Karla. &nbsp;He taught himself how to play the guitar, he and his sister Maggie played together. &nbsp;He was so proud of her. &nbsp;He liked playing chess and he was very good at it. &nbsp;If you could beat him, you’d be staying around until he upped you one. &nbsp;Rick’s love for animals was a love like no other. &nbsp;Thorzene the Wonder Dog, Nick Boy, Gunner, Darby and Maggie Magpie. &nbsp; His Magpie never left his side to the day he passed away.

When Karla asked some of his favorite brothers what words best describe Natoma; one heck of a good brother, a true friend, true to his beliefs, respectful, loyal as they come, one of a kind, took care of business, and you could trust him with your life.

He started riding a Harley when he was a young man. &nbsp;His first bike was a 74 shovelhead with a suicide clutch. &nbsp;He loved that bike. &nbsp;When he moved to Kansas he started a group with a few guys from Russell, called Ride The Iron. &nbsp;Shortly after that he became a member of the Sons of Silence MC. &nbsp;He joined on January 4, 1990, and retired after twenty nine years in 2017. &nbsp;He was most proud of the years he spent as Nomad President from 2000 to 2012. &nbsp;He stepped down when his diabetes kicked in, and it became difficult to travel EMFP. &nbsp;He then took the role of President of the Western Kansas Chapter of the SOS MC.

Another one of Ricks proud moments was the Nomad Great Race 2005, Endurance Dash, going from the SOS Clubhouse in Montrose, Colorado to the Iron Horseman Clubhouse in Sangerville, Maine. &nbsp;First to arrive, with no support vehicle and no stops except for gas, the Grand Prize was time on the road with your brothers and stories to tell. &nbsp;First place won lifetime bragging rights. &nbsp;The ride was 2020 miles one way. &nbsp;Five brothers made it, Natoma said he finished last, but he finished.

In those twenty nine years, all the miles, all the smiles, all the memories of BUAN, what he loved more than anything was his brothers he met on the way, EMFP.

Rick’s survivors include his wife Karla, his two children Kyle (Wendy) Kruse of Waterville and Krystle (Devin) Zimmer of St. George, five grandchildren: Laekyn, Carsen, Skyler, Kayleigh and Phentyn, and by special nieces and nephews: Richard, Timothy (Jammie), Bonnie (“T”), Stacie (Jay), Casey (Shayne) and Lance (Brenda).

Preceding Rick in death are his parents and two sisters: Margaret Aikman and Mary Ann Aikman, and many SOS MC Brothers.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, March 16, 2024, at Prospect Hill Cemetery, north of Blue Rapids. &nbsp;Casket bearers are Kyle Kruse, Richard Frazier, Joet Ramsey, Leonard Ramsey, Lance Colle and Gary Bieler. &nbsp;Honorary Bearers are Drew Laffery, Tim Frazier, Dylan Frazier, Laekyn Hilt, Carsen Hilt, Delmar Yungeberg, Jarret Blocklinger, Jordan Blocklinger, Ethan Shanks, Wyatt Shank, Tafaomaleuctogi Garman and Jay Smith. &nbsp;Burial will follow at Prospect Hill Cemetery.

Henry Lee Meyer, age 88 of Shawnee, Kansas, passed away Saturday, March 2, 2024, surrounded by family in Elkhart, Indiana. He spent his last day with his little great-grandchildren, who would all come into his room to check on him throughout the day.

Lee was born on December 19, 1935, in Clay Center, the son of Henry and Elizabeth (Renz) Meyer. &nbsp;He was so tiny– three pounds, received lots of loving care from his mama, and even fit in a shoebox! Lee graduated from Riley Rural High School, then Kansas State University with a bachelor’s degree in finance. &nbsp;He played football and basketball in High School and attended many High School Reunions. He was proud of– and loved his family farm roots in Riley County, KS.

On June 4, 1958, he married his high school sweetheart, Jolene Kaye Bohnenblust– the love of his life. They were happily married for 66 years and served as a great example of honoring their marriage covenant before our Lord. His greatest pride and joy were his family that he built with Jolene. They supported their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren with all their endeavors– going to volleyball and soccer games, choir concerts, cheerleading competitions, debate team, and graduations. They even traveled to Spain to join their oldest grandchild during her study abroad semester in college.

Lee was the Director of Finance for the City of Shawnee, Kansas, Director of Finance for the City of Gladstone, Missouri and employed in the Finance Department of Platte Pipeline. He was exceptional with numbers &amp; followed the stock market fervently. He was always loved and cherished by his coworkers and friends.

Lee was involved in the Optimist Club and was a Lifetime Member of the United Methodist Church, including: Shawnee Methodist Church, Lenexa Methodist Church, and Faubion Methodist Church. He &amp; Jolene were active members in Sunday School and served as Youth Group Leaders. He served our country in the armed forces from 1958 to 1960– where he &amp; Jolene were stationed at Fort Bragg.

Lee was a social butterfly and loved to converse with anyone who would listen. His favorite topics of conversation included politics, religion, history, and vocabulary words– he ruffled some feathers, sometimes! Some would describe him as cantankerous or a curmudgeon, but he was the sweetest on the inside. Lee had a tender heart and was passionate about encouraging the underdog and helping those in need. His hobbies included collecting tobacco pipes, dancing with the square dance club, and bowling with the league– but he mostly showed up to spend time with his wife and have some great conversations. Every year he took his family to Table Rock Lake and stayed in Shell Knob– and even bought a boat for the family to continue the tradition. In his later years, he enjoyed strolling around Costco or Aldi and take his boy, Baxter his beloved yorkie, on walks in the park. Lee loved a good conversation with his neighbors with a Moscow mule or homemade kombucha in hand, during a competitive game of dominoes.

He is survived by his wife, Jolene Meyer; two daughters, Pamela Coe and her husband, Dr. Douglas of Leawood, Kansas, and Kimberly Linton of Elkhart, Indiana; three grandchildren, Emily Coe, Sara Coe, and Brieana Knight (Nathanael), and three great grandchildren, Lance Knight, Charlotte Knight, and Nolan Knight.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Letha Wilson&nbsp;

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 9, 2024, at the Fairview Presbyterian Church with Pastor Gerry Sharp officiating. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery.

Henry Meyer

Linda Joleen (Isernhagen) Ferguson was born February 9th, 1948 in Smith Center, KS to Arnold and Aleen Isernhagen. Linda attended elementary school and junior high in Agra, KS. She attended high school and graduated from Kensington High School in Kensington, KS. That is where she met Jon Ferguson who she married on August 11,1968.

After high school, Linda attended dental assistant school in Emporia, KS. Following her marriage to Jon, they made their home in Manhattan, KS while Jon finished his Engineering degree at Kansas State University. 

Following Jon’s graduation from K-State, the couple moved to Boston, MA where Jon attended Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Linda worked at Dr. Mann’s dental practice. Linda had many stories to tell about her time working in Boston. The best story that she told was how she worked on a man named Rick Otcasek’s teeth. At the time, Rick was the lead singer for a band called Milkwood. He would later change the spelling of his name and become Rick Ocasek, the lead singer for the Cars.

While living in Boston, Jon and Linda enjoyed the many activities the city had to offer. They also traveled throughout New England enjoying the beautiful scenery. Linda loved nature and all things outdoors.

In 1973, Jon and Linda made the decision to move back to Kensington, KS. They made their home north of Kensington, KS for 41 years while Jon worked and ran the family ranch and farm along with his sister and brother-in-law, Janis and Lyn Lee. Linda was every bit the “rancher” that Jon was. Linda cooked many meals for the ranch employees. She helped work cattle, sprayed musk thistle and ran countless ranch errands. In addition to the routine day-to-day ranching Linda did, she also played nurse whenever dad had a ranching accident. If you know anything about Jon’s ranch related injury count, you know that nursing was often a full-time job for Linda.

When Linda wasn’t busy ranching, she was busy being an amazing mother to her two daughters. Emily Brooke Ferguson was born on February 13th, 1975, and Olivia Paige (Ferguson) Rogers was born on January 31st, 1979. As a family, Jon, Linda, Emily and Oliva enjoyed family camping vacations to Colorado and the Rocky Mountains, Yellowstone and Canada. (If you get a chance, ask Jon or Emily how the trip to Canada went.)

Linda was quite the “dance mom” shuttling Emily and Olivia to weekly dance lessons and making sure their costumes, hair and make-up were perfect for recitals. She was always there after each recital with a bouquet of carnations for both girls. Linda’s love and support for her daughters was unconditional and unending.

Love and support was a theme throughout Linda’s life. She was sometimes a second mom to nieces and nephews and Emily’s and Olivia’s closest friends. (Coleen &amp; Jess). Linda had a kind heart and always wanted to help people who might be struggling. This is what led her to become a drug and alcohol counselor during the 1980’s. Linda made a difference by helping patients 1:1. She also sat on the board of the Smoky Hill Foundation in Hays, KS.

Jon and Linda retired from cattle ranching in 2014 and moved to Manhattan, KS where they have many friends and were able to enjoy various social engagements and performing arts events. Few events were ever as important to Linda as K-State football and basketball games. The family has had season tickets to football for many years as well as basketball since they moved to Manhattan. Linda was queen of the tailgate! She loved a good party, and she loved spending time with her family and friends in the parking lot of “The Bill”. Oh, and she liked to watch football and basketball too!

Linda and Jon were dog lovers. Throughout their life together, Linda was the best dog my mom ever to three Basset Hounds (Rufus, Zachary and Ruben) a Shih Tzu (Suchi), two Brittany Spaniels (Ray and Jack), a Springer Spaniel (Sammy) and three soft-coated Wheaten Terriers (Ellie, Rudy and Harry). Linda was also a pretty great dog grandma to Dexter Rogers.

Linda was an avid flower gardener, and she loved to putter around her yard in Manhattan pruning plants and pulling weeds and care for the large fish pond in their front yard. She instilled this love of flowers in both Emily and Olivia. To this day, nothing makes Emily happier than planting flowers in the spring and taking care of them throughout the summer.

In recent years, Jon and Linda enjoyed traveling both with Emily and Oliva and their families and with other family members and friends. Linda loved seeing and experiencing new places. Linda especially loved a tropical location with a beach and a cocktail!

Three years ago Linda and Jon and the family suffered a horrible tragedy with the loss of Oliva to a five year battle with metastatic breast cancer. Jon and Linda were a huge support to each other during the months and years that passed after Olivia’s passing. The way they got through that incredibly difficult time was a testament to their love and support of each other.

Linda passed away on March 5th, 2024 after being diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis in 2020. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arnold Isernhagen and Aleen Schalansky and her daughter, Olivia Rogers. Linda is survived by her husband Jon, daughter Emily, Emily’s significant other Toby Bargar, son-in-law Willie Rogers, grandsons Henry and Oscar Rogers, sisters Sharon Elliott (Jim) and Mary Struckhoff (Cory), brother-in-law Donald Ferguson (Signe) and sister-in-law Janis Lee (Lyn), nephews David, Brian (Amy Brooks) and Daniel Lee and nieces Kristine Meyer, Daneen Deam (Chris) and Angiela Meyer (Eddy Krygiel) along with many more family and friends and of course her baby dog Harry.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday, March 11th, at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel with Pastor Devin Wendt officiating. Private family inurnment will be in the Johnson County Memorial Gardens in Overland Park, KS.

 </figure>Linda Joleen (Isernhagen) Ferguson was born February 9th, 1948 in Smith Center, KS to Arnold and Aleen Isernhagen. Linda attended elementary school and junior high in Agra, KS. She attended high school and graduated from Kensington High School in Kensington, KS. That is where she met Jon Ferguson who she married on August 11,1968.After high school, Linda attended dental assistant school in Emporia, KS. Following her marriage to Jon, they made their home in Manhattan, KS while Jon finished his Engineering degree at Kansas State University. Following Jon’s graduation from K-State, the couple moved to Boston, MA where Jon attended Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Linda worked at Dr. Mann’s dental practice. Linda had many stories to tell about her time working in Boston. The best story that she told was how she worked on a man named Rick Otcasek’s teeth. At the time, Rick was the lead singer for a band called Milkwood. He would later change the spelling of his name and become Rick Ocasek, the lead singer for the Cars.While living in Boston, Jon and Linda enjoyed the many activities the city had to offer. They also traveled throughout New England enjoying the beautiful scenery. Linda loved nature and all things outdoors.In 1973, Jon and Linda made the decision to move back to Kensington, KS. They made their home north of Kensington, KS for 41 years while Jon worked and ran the family ranch and farm along with his sister and brother-in-law, Janis and Lyn Lee. Linda was every bit the “rancher” that Jon was. Linda cooked many meals for the ranch employees. She helped work cattle, sprayed musk thistle and ran countless ranch errands. In addition to the routine day-to-day ranching Linda did, she also played nurse whenever dad had a ranching accident. If you know anything about Jon’s ranch related injury count, you know that nursing was often a full-time job for Linda.When Linda wasn’t busy ranching, she was busy being an amazing mother to her two daughters. Emily Brooke Ferguson was born on February 13th, 1975, and Olivia Paige (Ferguson) Rogers was born on January 31st, 1979. As a family, Jon, Linda, Emily and Oliva enjoyed family camping vacations to Colorado and the Rocky Mountains, Yellowstone and Canada. (If you get a chance, ask Jon or Emily how the trip to Canada went.)Linda was quite the “dance mom” shuttling Emily and Olivia to weekly dance lessons and making sure their costumes, hair and make-up were perfect for recitals. She was always there after each recital with a bouquet of carnations for both girls. Linda’s love and support for her daughters was unconditional and unending.Love and support was a theme throughout Linda’s life. She was sometimes a second mom to nieces and nephews and Emily’s and Olivia’s closest friends. (Coleen &amp; Jess). Linda had a kind heart and always wanted to help people who might be struggling. This is what led her to become a drug and alcohol counselor during the 1980’s. Linda made a difference by helping patients 1:1. She also sat on the board of the Smoky Hill Foundation in Hays, KS.Jon and Linda retired from cattle ranching in 2014 and moved to Manhattan, KS where they have many friends and were able to enjoy various social engagements and performing arts events. Few events were ever as important to Linda as K-State football and basketball games. The family has had season tickets to football for many years as well as basketball since they moved to Manhattan. Linda was queen of the tailgate! She loved a good party, and she loved spending time with her family and friends in the parking lot of “The Bill”. Oh, and she liked to watch football and basketball too!Linda and Jon were dog lovers. Throughout their life together, Linda was the best dog my mom ever to three Basset Hounds (Rufus, Zachary and Ruben) a Shih Tzu (Suchi), two Brittany Spaniels (Ray and Jack), a Springer Spaniel (Sammy) and three soft-coated Wheaten Terriers (Ellie, Rudy and Harry). Linda was also a pretty great dog grandma to Dexter Rogers.Linda was an avid flower gardener, and she loved to putter around her yard in Manhattan pruning plants and pulling weeds and care for the large fish pond in their front yard. She instilled this love of flowers in both Emily and Olivia. To this day, nothing makes Emily happier than planting flowers in the spring and taking care of them throughout the summer.In recent years, Jon and Linda enjoyed traveling both with Emily and Oliva and their families and with other family members and friends. Linda loved seeing and experiencing new places. Linda especially loved a tropical location with a beach and a cocktail!Three years ago Linda and Jon and the family suffered a horrible tragedy with the loss of Oliva to a five year battle with metastatic breast cancer. Jon and Linda were a huge support to each other during the months and years that passed after Olivia’s passing. The way they got through that incredibly difficult time was a testament to their love and support of each other.Linda passed away on March 5th, 2024 after being diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis in 2020. Linda Joleen Ferguson

Hosea Snyder Harkness passed away on Monday, February 19, 2024, at Meadowlark Hills in Manhattan, Kansas. He was born on March 11, 1933 in Clay Center, Kansas, to Charles A. and Alice Harkness. Hosea grew up on the family farm near Greenleaf, Kansas, and graduated from Greenleaf High School in 1951.

Hosea attended Kansas State University for two years before entering the U.S. Army, serving in Japan. He returned to KSU, receiving a B.S. in Agriculture and an M.S. in Agricultural Economics and Statistics. He married Lily Copeland of Waterville, Kansas on June 2, 1956.

He took a position with the USDA Crop Reporting Service in Topeka, Kansas after graduation, working in offices in Kansas, Utah, Illinois, Washington, D.C., and Arkansas. In 1968, after ten years of government service, Hosea began working at Cook Industries and then Sparks Commodities in Memphis, Tennessee, doing on-the-ground observation of crop yields and developing statistical techniques to forecast crop yields and production, prior to the official release of government reports. He expanded these techniques developed in the US market to several other countries, most notably Brazil and Argentina. Over 25 years, he traveled to more than 25 countries gathering crop information, including more than 50 trips to South America.

After retiring in 1998, Hosea continued to consult for a select group of clients. He also indulged his interests in antique vehicles, toy farm implements, Pickard porcelain, and supporting Lily’s porcelain art ventures, as well as cheering for the Kansas State Wildcats. He and Lily split time between Memphis, Gull Lake, Minnesota, and Fountain Hills, Arizona before moving to Fountain Hills full time in 2002. After Lily’s death in 2020, Hosea moved to Meadowlark Hills.

Hosea’s favorite place in the world was Iguaçu Falls on the Brazil/Argentina border. He was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church and is a member of First Lutheran Church in Manhattan. He was proud of being 43 years sober.&nbsp;

Hosea was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Lily Harkness. He is survived by his children, Rebecca (Pamela Gay) and Donald (Margaret), and grandchildren, Elizabeth, Sarah, Rebecca, and John. He is also survived by one sibling, Mary Teschner, many nieces and nephews, as well as numerous colleagues who still use the crop forecasting methods he pioneered.

The family wishes to thank Georgia Adolf and the staff of Miller House at Meadowlark Hills for the loving care provided Hosea.&nbsp;

A viewing is planned from noon to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, March 10, 2024 at the Christie-Anderes Funeral Home in Waterville.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 11, 2024 at the St. Mark Lutheran Church in Waterville with Pastor David Thompson officiating. Kim Oatney will be the musician. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery.

David L. Hogan, age 64, of Blue Rapids passed away at his home on Tuesday, February 27, 2024.

David was born on April 14, 1959, at Fort Riley, to Clarence J. and Wilma J. (Nemechek) Hogan. On April 1, 1985, he marred Verna “Sue” Scaggs in South of the Boarder in South Carolina. &nbsp;Sue passed away in 2013.

During his years with his bride they had many adventures. They worked as Carnival workers in Texas. They enjoyed being volunteer workers in a renaissances fair, dressing the part and living in a tent during the summer before coming back to Waterville for a short time to work at Landolls. They moved to Beatrice Neb where Sue passed away and David found his love for caring for others earning his CNA and returning to Blue Rapids where he worked for Blue Valley Health and Rehab.

Survivors include his siblings James (Susan) Hogan, Roxanne (Allen) Nugent, and Patty (Rick) Moeller all of Waterville, Karen (Roger) Hunter of Topeka, Patrick (Gayla) Hogan of Marysville, and Scott (Tammy) Hogan of Columbus, Nebraska.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Wilma, and by his wife Sue.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at the Waterville Community Center. &nbsp;A private inurnment will follow at a later date.

Richard Henry, 84, of Clay Center died on Sunday, March 3, 2024 at the Clay County Medical Center.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was born August 15, 1939 outside of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, the son of Ray and Nellie Henry.&nbsp;&nbsp;Richard was a Postal Carrier for the United States Post Office.&nbsp;

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Donald and sister Pauline.

He is survived by his wife, Sherill of Clay Center, Kansas; son, Jerry Ray Henry of Dunnsville, Virginia,and 5 grandchildren.
