Sandra (Sandi) Allard of Manhattan, KS joined her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, April 2nd, 2024. She was born December 29th, 1943, in Bassett, Nebraska to Earl and Rowena Hurley Debolt, both deceased.

On October 15th, 1966, she was united in marriage to John Allard at St. Christopher’s Catholic Church in Valentine, Nebraska.

Sandi graduated from Valentine (Nebraska) High School and attended college at Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, Oklahoma.

She began her career in radio at Radio Station KVSH in Valentine, Nebraska writing and scheduling commercials. Later she was promoted to Office Manager and transferred to KCOL in Fort Collins, Colorado. She ended her radio profession at KALV in Alva, Oklahoma where she was News Director and Announcer.

A Manhattan resident since 1991, at Kansas State University she worked as an Office Assistant for the College of Veterinary Medicine, later transferring to the Office of Admissions as a Transcript Evaluator. She retired in 2003.

Sandi loved to write. She completed one novel, was working on a second, and had multiple magazine articles published. Her favorite genre was humor.

Sandi was the Bloodmobile Coordinator for the American Red Cross at Fort Benning, Georgia and, when her Army husband was transferred to the Republic of Panama, volunteered at Amry Community Services as the Volunteer Coordinator. She received many awards for her volunteer efforts with these and other organizations.

The real happiness in Sandi’s life was her family. She adored her husband John, with whom she shared 55 years of marriage. His devotion to her during her many illnesses and surgeries were of enormous comfort to her. John preceded Sandy in death in 2021.

Her sons, Michael and David, brought her much happiness. Their gift of 7 grandchildren. (Amanda, Autumn, Alison, Andralyn, Macy, and Julian) were her greatest joy. She was also blessed with her daughter-in-law Sandy and her daughter Madi Cooper. Her son David preceded her in death in 2020.

Sandi will be most remembered for her faith, optimism, and good humor. Sandi is survived by her son Michael, his wife Sandy, 7 grandchildren, her sister Donna Jones (and husband Steve) of Ohio, and her sister-in-law Margo Kreycik of Missouri.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 12th at St. Thomas More Church in Manhattan, KS. Burial will immediately follow the service at the Veterans Cemetery on Wildcat Creek Road.

In lieu of flowers the family requests those wishing to give memorials to donate to T Russell Reitz Regional Animal Shelter or Kansas State Basic Cancer Research.

Mary Louise Garcia, 57, of Junction City, Kansas died on Thursday, March 28, 2024 at her residence in Junction City, Kansas.

Mary's wishes were to be cremated. No memorial service is planned at this time.

Mary Louise Garcia

&nbsp;Jimmie D. Mayhew, 80, Abilene, KS, passed away on April 1, 2024.&nbsp; He was born in Marysville KS, the son of Dale and Bonnie (Bothwell) Mayhew. He was preceded in death by his parents and former wife, Bobbie Jo Torrence.

 He is survived by wife, Pattie, of the home; sister, Sheri (Roger) Dowding, Syracuse, NE; brother, Tanner (Leah), St. Joseph, MO; son, David (Melinda), grandchildren, Joseph and Nathon Mayhew, Okarche, OK; Daughter, Janna (Mike) Medlin, grandchildren Ethan Medlin, Dillon Smith and Kylee (Kendon) Brown, all of Oklahoma; Stepson Brian (Desiree), Lorissa and Davin Bailey, Leavenworth, KS; stepdaughter, Heather (RJ) Ferrari, Avalyn and Mackenzie Ferrari and stepson, David P. Leach, Chicago, IL

He attended Fairbury College, Fairbury, Nebraska. Following his attendance there he joined the National Guard and was subsequently activated in 1969, serving in Vietnam. Other duty assignments included Kansas, Alaska, Colorado, and Maryland. He retired from his military career as a Major and subsequently served as a civilian with the Directorate of Logistics, as the Ft. Riley Property Book Officer.

During his retirement years, he loved bird-watching; photography, serving the Boy Scouts in Abilene; Konza prairie as a docent; Maxwell Wildlife Refuge, Canton, KS; President of the Kansas Ornithological Society; President of the Smoky Hill Trail Association and on the Board of Trustees for the Dickinson County Historical Society.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Dusty Bookshelf, 700 N. Manhattan Ave., Manhattan, KS 66502.

A celebration of life reception will take place Saturday, May 11th from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Abilene Rec Center. A private family inurnment for the family will take place at a later date.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Jimmie D. Mayhew

Alberta Mae Rhodes joined her family and friends up in heaven on Sunday, March 31, 2024 in Harlingen, Texas.

She was born May 7, 1923 to Albert and Viola (Hawk) Funk who preceded her in death. Also she was preceded in death by two sisters Becky Funk, Rachel M. Drake and a brother Daniel Funk.

She graduated from Abilene High School in Abilene with the class of 1941. She was the youngest of her family. Alberta married her classmate Donald D. “Dusty” Rhodes on November 20, 1945 in Long Beach, CA. They later divorced with no children.

She is survived by three nephews and their families, Frank Drake of Overland Park, Kansas, Andrew “Andy” Funk of Comstock, Texas, Albert “Butch” Funk of San Antonio, Texas, plus cousins and many friends.

Her friendly nature and a very caring of people endeared her to everyone who met her.

Graveside services for Alberta will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 6, 2024 at the Abilene Cemetery.

Alberta Mae Rhodes - May 7th, 1923 - March 31st, 2024

Ralph passed on Easter morning and our goodbyes are with the solar eclipse.

 Ralph just celebrated his 96th year. Born in Abilene, March 21, 1928 to Vernon and Ozetta (Shetron) Viola. The middle of 5 children. If you see a Viola store due bill coin, that is Ralph at age 5 printed on it. As a young teen, he delivered telegrams and once delivered birthday greetings from President Roosevelt to Eisenhower’s mother. He was treasurer of his 1948 Abilene class. Graduating from Kansas State University, he later earned his Master’s in Business. Ralph retired from Boeing after 45+ years.

Ralph met wife Marian Nagely in college when she asked him to a Sadie Hawkins dance. They started their adventures together in May 1950. Enjoying 53 years traveling, living in 5 states, 5 years in Tehran, Iran, 2 years in Montreal. Traveled through all 50 states, all Canadian Provinces, 34 countries and US territories. After Marian’s death in 2003. Ralph returned to Abilene and married Avis (Clark) Wells. Introducing her travel for 10 years until her death in 2013.&nbsp; He crossed the equator, the Arctic Circle, drove thru Alaska-Cascade Hwy, made a trip around the world and flew on 45+ air carriers. He parachuted, went up in air balloons, helicopters and multiple different aircraft. Ralph served in the Army and the Air Force, retiring as a Major. He achieved his pilot’s license. Was a member of several air museums and supported Abilene Aviation. Owner of 2 airplanes, his joy was his L2, Taylor Craft. A cloth covered prop plane. He helped restore and display FIFI, a WWII B29 Bomber.&nbsp; Ralph loved life, taking an interest in all it had to offer. 

Generous to a fault, he never understood why anyone would not do a kindness when they had the opportunity. Stubborn, independent and much loved.

Proceeded in death by his brothers Vern, Bob, Don and sister Ilene (Favand). Survived by his children Ralph Viola, Cindy (Dainard), Toni and husband David (Pearson). Grandchildren Jeasen and Anji Viola, Samuel, wife Amy, and Meriah Dainard, Laura and Anna Pearson. All of Washington State.

Services will be Monday, April 8, 10:30 a.m. at 1st Southern Baptist Church, 1400 Mulberry St in Abilene. Visitation will be Sunday, April 7, 2024 from 5:30 to 7:00 pm at the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, 414 NW 3rd, Abilene.

Ralph H. Viola

Philip (Pho) Charles Speer, age 66, of Manhattan, died April 2, 2024, at Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan.

He was born October 12, 1957, in Conneaut, Ohio, the son of Charles and Jeanette (Naylor) Speer. Philip graduated from Conneaut High School. He owned and operated Speer Painting and was a local painter and a member of the Lake Erie Boat Club for many years.

On November 7, 1985, in Manhattan, he was married to Judy Mae Teeter. Judy survives of Manhattan. Additional survivors include 1 sister and 1 brother in Ohio, four daughters: Angila Hulen (Josh) of Manhattan, Starla McPheron-Hall (Darryl) of Overland Park, KS, Crystal McPheron of Junction City, KS, and Christine Weixelman (Sean) of Manhattan; 10 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He maintained a forty-year friendship with Steve (brother from another mother) McConnell, Bud McCurry, Lovalle Bradley and David (Whiskers) Emme who became family to him.

Phil had a hardcore attitude and spoke his peace, but deep down he was a teddy bear. He married a woman with 3 children that he dearly loved and when a fourth came along he opened his heart to her also. If anyone needed help, he would drop everything to help. He made it possible through a city grant to have a handicap ramp put outside a 90-year-old woman’s house so she could enjoy the outside. When the city wanted her sidewalk brought up to city code, he and his friend Lovalle Bradley replaced it. He helped with various jobs taking little payment. He worked many late hours and weekends to complete paint projects on schedule.

Thirteen years ago, he and his wife started raising three grandchildren he loved fiercely. The last few years he has been fixing the grandchildren breakfast every morning, making sure they took their meds and running them to school and picking them up even though he had a difficult time. He would often treat them to Sonic slushes on Wednesdays and had ice cream on hand fixing special sundaes for them. This is the way he felt he could help the household.

Despite his sarcastic remarks and outrageous past life stories we will greatly miss having him with us.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters Pam Bolinger and Mary McCoy.

A Celebration of Philip’s life will be held at a later date.

Philip C. Charles Speer

James “Jim” Dale Bartlett died April 1, 2024, at Meadowlark Hills in Manhattan, Kansas. He was born to Arthur and Gladys Allen in Ottawa County Kansas on July 7, 1943. His siblings were Robert Allen, Luther Lee Allen, Duane Allen, Lenora Sommerville (Allen), Howard Allen, Phyllis Judd (Allen), Catherine Meats (Bartlett), Edith Jones (Broiles), Esther Fink (Broiles), and Patrick (Floyd) Broiles. He is survived by Catherine, Edith and Patrick.

Jim and his sister Catherine were welcomed into the Bartlett and Beauchamp families in 1953 when they were adopted by Dale and Clarice Bartlett (both deceased).

Jim attended grade school at an orphanage in Abilene, in Olathe when he was in foster care, and Coffeyville, before attending high school in LeRoy Kansas.

After graduating from LeRoy High School in 1962 Jim joined the U.S. Marine Corps family. He went to boot camp at San Diego, California before going to Viet Nam with the 1st Battalion 3rd Marine Division in December 1964.

He joined the Army in 1975. Jim then retired from the Army in 1989 with 26 years of combined service. He continued to support veterans after retiring teaching Transition Assistance classes at Ft. Riley and working for the State of Kansas as a veteran’s service representative. He also was an active member in local Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and Flint Hills Veteran’s Coalition chapters. He handed out flags at Manhattan’s Veteran’s Day Parade for many years.

Jim joined the Merle and Virginia Hammond family when he married their daughter Shirley in November of 1968 The “Outlaws” as he fondly called them were: Beverly Ives(Keith) both deceased, Steven Hammond (Leticia), Loretta Moerer, Clifford Hammond (Mary), and Katherine Fuhlhage (Jerry).

Jim and Shirley have three children, 10 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

James Andrew, whose children are Megan, Helen and Camille. He is married to Melissa (Vene).

Thomas Alan, whose children are Mackenzie, Ashley, Samantha and Quincy. Mackenzie (Theis) and her husband, Andrew, have two children, Isla and Wyatt.

Jason Dean, whose children are Nevaeh, Bonnie and Jase. He is married to Mekea (Geisler).

Jim’s children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his greatest joys. He showed that love with hugs, group hugs, counting flowers, playing games and just being there for them all. He was also deeply loved by his many nieces, nephews who have fond memories of “Uncle Jim”.

Services will be at the Yorgensen Meloan Londeen Funeral Home in Manhattan, Kansas. Visitation is April 8, 2024, 5-7:30 pm. Funeral is April 9, 2024, 10 am with burial following at the Veteran’s Cemetery in Manhattan.

 </figure>James “Jim” Dale Bartlett died April 1, 2024, at Meadowlark Hills in Manhattan, Kansas. He was born to Arthur and Gladys Allen in Ottawa County Kansas on July 7, 1943. His siblings were Robert Allen, Luther Lee Allen, Duane Allen, Lenora Sommerville (Allen), Howard Allen, Phyllis Judd (Allen), Catherine Meats (Bartlett), Edith Jones (Broiles), Esther Fink (Broiles), and Patrick (Floyd) Broiles. He is survived by Catherine, Edith and Patrick.Jim and his sister Catherine were welcomed into the Bartlett and Beauchamp families in 1953 when they were adopted by Dale and Clarice Bartlett (both deceased).Jim attended grade school at an orphanage in Abilene, in Olathe when he was in foster care, and Coffeyville, before attending high school in LeRoy Kansas.After graduating from LeRoy High School in 1962 Jim joined the U.S. Marine Corps family. He went to boot camp at San Diego, California before going to Viet Nam with the 1st Battalion 3rd Marine Division in December 1964.He joined the Army in 1975. Jim then retired from the Army in 1989 with 26 years of combined service. He continued to support veterans after retiring teaching Transition Assistance classes at Ft. Riley and working for the State of Kansas as a veteran’s service representative. He also was an active member in local Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and Flint Hills Veteran’s Coalition chapters. James “Jim” Dale Bartlett

Calvin Duane Cumbie, age 74, of Wamego, passed away on March 30, 2024, at Stormont Vail Health in Topeka.

Born in Dallas, TX on March 19, 1950 to R. Denny and Mary Lou Cumbie. Calvin’s early years were spent in Brownsboro, TX with his parents and his grandparents Guy and Estelle Cumbie. Calvin's parents later moved to Garland, TX, where he attended South Garland High School. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1968 and honorably discharged in 1972 at the rank of E-3.

He married Lynn Woodworth Ferguson in 1974. She had 2 daughters and they went on to have one more. They moved to Manhattan, Kansas in 1975. He worked for Kershaw Ready mix as a dump truck driver for 5 years. He then went to work for Steel, Pipe and Supply for 6 years and drove over the road and then back to Kershaw for 15 more years. He worked for Mercy Hospital in the Maintenance Department until he retired in 2017.

He loved his girls and would do anything for them. He also loved to sit at the lake and fish. He also loved to travel. When he retired in 2017, he and Lynn sold everything, bought a 5th wheel camper and a truck to pull it and headed out to see the country. Because of health concerns they had to stop traveling.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his older brother Glenn Cumbie and one grandson.

Calvin is survived by Lynn of the home, Lacy Besa and Russell Kalcik, Tammi and Kristopher Daggett of Saint George, KS, Jesse Besa of Manhattan, KS and Jesse’s son Breighton of Riley, KS and Hazel Besa of Alma, Kansas, Lisa and Scott Burk of Olsburg, KS, Blaine Area of Topeka, KS and Isobella of Alma, KS, Colby and Jessie Area of Manhattan, KS, Danielle and Dalton McGee, Dierks, Drake and Deagen of Olsburg, KS. Amy and Erick Arthington of Wamego, KS, Jeceka and Jon Madewell, Isabell, and Zayn, of Crowell, TX. Serargent Rhett Pitchford, Kuwait and Brook Jones, of Topeka, Fayeth Pitchford and Jackson Jantz of Wichita, KS. Sister, Kathy Cumbie and family, reside in Texas.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 am. Friday, April 5th, at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel with Reverend Joshua Johnson officiating. Private family inurnment will be in the St. George Cemetery.

Calvin Duane Cumbie

Robert E. (Bob) Johnston, age 75, of Manhattan, passed away on March 29, 2024 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan, Kansas.

He was born on June 25, 1948 in Norman, Oklahoma, the son of James and Dorothy (Lang) Johnston. Bob had served several years in the Air Force in California. He also graduated from Kansas State University with a Bachelor in History. He also worked at Ft. Riley Irwin Army Hospital in the Food Service area. He also worked at the Manhattan Public Library re-shelving books.

He loved all kinds of trains, especially the Chessie system his grandpa in Virginia worked on. He could tell you anything and everything about any train ever. He loved collecting model trains and had at least one set up all the time.

He was preceded in death by his parents James and Dorothy Johnston.

Bob is survived by his brother Mike Johnston and his wife Jean, his nephew Kenny Johnston and his wife Bridgette and their children Abby and Charlie.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday April 4, 2024 at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel in Manhattan. Interment will follow in the Sunrise Cemetery in Manhattan.

Robert E. Johnston

Joan Laverne Doll, 78, of Buckeye, AZ (formerly Wamego, KS) passed away Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at Hospice of the Valley, Surprise, AZ, with her two sons by her side. Joan was born October 15, 1945, to Louis and Ruth (Carter) Timmons.&nbsp;

Joan received her education in the Wamego, KS school system. She married Thomas Joseph Doll on August 25, 1962. Tom preceded her in death on May 5, 2020.&nbsp;

Raising a family in Wamego, Joan was a devoted wife, mother, and friend to many. Joan worked for several years at Vanderbilt’s before moving to Holiday Island, AR, in 1986 with her husband, Tom, where together they operated the Holiday Island Marina on Table Rock Lake. Upon returning to Kansas, Joan, once again, worked alongside her husband at the Farmer’s Union Co-op in Harveyville until their retirement. Joan and Tom enjoyed living at Wabaunsee Lake for many years before returning to Wamego.&nbsp;

Joan enjoyed monthly luncheons with Tom and a special group of friends at South 40 Café in Westmoreland and continued to attend following Tom’s death. In 2022, Joan decided to move to Buckeye, AZ, to live closer to her son, Ron, and his wife, Nancy, who live between Seattle, WA, and Buckeye, AZ, and enjoy the more temperate climate.&nbsp;

Moving to AZ was a big step for Joan who had spent most of her life in the Wamego area. She was concerned about leaving family and friends to live somewhere unfamiliar. Her concerns proved to be pointless as her outgoing, gregarious personality and ability to have a conversation with anyone provided her the opportunity to meet an amazing group of friends. She joined FABS, a women’s social group, and met many special friends who enjoyed many outings together including weekly luncheons, films, bingo, bunco, concerts, and special events in the community.&nbsp;

Joan’s survivors include sons, Jeff (Kansas City, MO) and Ron, and wife, Nancy, (Seattle, WA); 2 grandchildren: Brenna Doll (Kevin Dixon) and Max Doll (Seattle, WA); brother, Jim Timmons, and wife, Laura (Auburn, KS); sister-in-law, Lois Doll Brazzle (Wamego, KS); 5 nephews, Bob Timmons, David Timmons, Brandon Brazzle, Chad Carrel and Jared Carrel; 2 nieces: LaDonna Munoz and Emily Brazzle.

In addition to her husband, Tom, Joan was preceded in death by her father, Louis Timmons, mother, Ruth Maginness, brothers, Jack Timmons and Larry Timmons and sister-in-law, Mary Ann Carrel.

A graveside service will be held on June 15, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s cemetery in Flush, KS.

Joan Laverne Doll

Mary A. Ashworth passed away on March 26th, 2024, in Wamego, Kansas at the age of 94. She was born on August 20th, 1929, in Paxico, Kansas, to Fred and Ella (Martin) Mathies.

Mary's life was filled with love and devotion to her family. She leaves behind her son Lonnie Sullivan, daughter Jo Sullivan, and sister Nyla Mathies. Mary's heart was forever touched by the memory of her daughter, Sue Sullivan, and her siblings, who preceded her in death.

Throughout Mary's life, she found joy and solace in various hobbies that brought out her creative spirit. Mary found great pleasure in crocheting beautiful blankets and quilting intricate designs. Her adventurous spirit extended beyond traditional crafts as well; she had a fondness for motorcycles and horses.

In addition to these personal interests, Mary took pride in being a homemaker whose warmth could be felt within every corner of their home. Her attention to detail extended into property management, where she ensured that everything was meticulously cared for to create a welcoming environment for all who entered.

Mary will always be remembered not only for these passions but also for the kindness she showed everyone around her.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 13th, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at Campanella &amp; Stewart Funeral Home, Wamego, Kansas. Mary A. Ashworth

&nbsp;Dianna Lynn Edwards, 69, of Westmoreland, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday (April 2, 2024) at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka.

Born July 17, 1954 in Kansas City, Missouri, Dianna was the daughter of Donald Edward and Betty Joyce (Hayes) Walker. &nbsp;She married William Edwards on January 8, 1977 and they had two daughters, Erin and Katie.

Dianna earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Home Economics from Kansas State University. &nbsp;Selflessly, she focused her energy into her proudest achievement, her two daughters, working as a stay at home mom while they were young. Later, she was the administrative assistant for Pottawatomie County Public Works until her retirement in 2020.

Family was most important to Dianna. She loved spending time with her daughters and siblings, but she especially cherished the time she shared with her grandchildren.

&nbsp;Survivors include two daughters, Erin Plummer (Eric) and Katie Klenda (Greg) both of Olsburg, KS; five grandchildren, Brayden Plummer, Shanna Plummer, Dalton Klenda, Chase Klenda and Sydney Klenda; a brother, Donald E. Walker Jr. (Susan) of Overland Park, KS; a sister, Deborah Crough of Merriam, KS; and many nieces and nephews.

Dianna was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Dwight Wayne Walker.

Funeral services will be held Monday,&nbsp; April 8, 2024 at 1:00 p.m.&nbsp; at Campanella &amp; Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego with Pastor Jol Klein officiating. &nbsp;Burial will be in the Westmoreland City Cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday, April 7, 2024 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m.&nbsp; at Campanella &amp; Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego.

Clyde M. Hill, 86, of Junction City, Kansas died on Thursday March 28, 2024 at Stormont-Vail Healthcare in Topeka, Kansas.

A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, April 4, 2024 at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery. American Legion Post #45 will conduct military honors. Pastor Will Ravenstein will officiate. Clyde was born August 18, 1937, in Ontonagon, Michigan the son of Alfred August and Jennie (Signe) Hill.Clyde served in the United States Air Force for ten years. After his service in the Air Force, he worked as a United States Civil Servant as an air traffic controller at Marshall Field at Fort Riley. During his time at Marshal Field, he was the tower chief. He retired August 31, 1987. After his two week retirement, he worked for Top Die Casting in Marengo, Illinois for thirteen years. Later, he moved back to Junction City, Kansas and worked for Footlocker in Junction City, Kansas for fifteen years. On August 6, 1972, he married Barbara K. Cleveland.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara of the home in Junction City, Kansas; two sons, David Lynn West of Junction City, Kansas and Daniel M. Hill of Conroe, Texas; one daughter, Kellis M. Pierce of Houston, Texas; two grandchildren, Christopher Graham and Angela Katherine Rendon; two sisters, Joyce Jackson and Clarice Kieselberg. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Kevin Keith Hill and several brothers and sisters.

Jimmy Lee Barnes, 71 died April 1, 2024, in Manhattan, KS. &nbsp;He was born on March 19, 1953, in Clay Center, the son of Dale and Georgia (Knox) Barnes. &nbsp;Jimmy was raised in Clifton and was a graduate of the class of 1971 from Clifton High School.&nbsp; During high school and after graduation, he plumbed with Milton Anderson and Marsh Anderson. &nbsp;He then worked as a welder at Gilmore-Tatge in Clay Center.&nbsp; Jimmy drove trucks for his father at Dale Barnes Trucking for several years.&nbsp; Later he owned and operated Jim Barnes Trucking.&nbsp; Jimmy purchased Anderson plumbing, re-naming it Jim's Plumbing which he operated for several years.&nbsp; When he closed the plumbing business, he returned to his trucking business and also drove for Girton Propane and Farmer’s Oil.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. &nbsp;Jimmy enjoyed black powder hunting, loved cars and car restoration work, he followed KU and KSU sports, and was a fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and KC Royals. &nbsp;He was an avid golfer and played in many tournaments at the Washington, Clyde and Clay Center public courses. &nbsp;He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Michael and Alan Barnes.

Geraldine Bushell, 91 of Moundridge, Kansas, died on Saturday, March 30, 2024 at the Pine Village in Moundridge, Kansas. She was born on May 20, 1932 in Cloud County, Kansas, the daughter of Eddie and Leona (Charbonneau) Chaput.&nbsp;

She grew up south of Clyde, Kansas and was baptized at the St. Joseph Catholic Church. Geraldine graduated from Clyde High School. &nbsp;After graduation, she worked at a bank in Concordia. &nbsp;She married Paul Bushell on November 30, 1952. &nbsp;The couple farmed north of Clay Center before moving to Clay Center after retiring from farming. &nbsp;Paul preceded her in death on October 10, 2012. &nbsp;Geraldine later worked as a bus driver for USD 379. &nbsp;She was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Clay Center. &nbsp;Geraldine was also preceded in death by her parents; 6 brothers, Edward, Lloyd, Bernard, Virgil, Donald and Dennis Chaput and 4 sisters, Rosella Edmond, Pearl Woellhof, Rita Rott and Gloria Pearson.

She is survived by her son, Eric and wife, Kim Bushell of Clay Center, Kansas; daughter, Julie Nightengale; &nbsp;3 grandchildren, Alicia (Mike) Butman, CoreyAnn (Dennis) Hunt and Nicholas (Amanda) Nightengale; 3 great grandchildren, Haley, Tate and Elizabeth Butman; 2 step great grandchildren, Karlee and Able Hunt, and her sister, Joyce and her husband, Gene Bergstrom of Pocatella, Idaho.

Geraldine Bushell

Linda C. Reedy, 73 of Abilene passed away March 30, 2024. She was born November 24, 1950 in Del Norte, Colorado to Ralph and Jerrine Arey. She was adopted at the age of two to Frank and Florence (DeGrofft) Bohnson. She grew up in the Clinton, Iowa area and graduated from Clinton High School. On September 8, 1969 she was united in marriage to George Dean Reedy in Illinois. He preceded her in death February 1, 2015. She worked for Sprint for 25 years as a dispatcher, accounting department and as a programmer. Linda and George moved to Abilene in 1974 after living in the Kansas City area for 10 years. Linda was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Enterprise. She had a love for all kinds of animals and often donated to various animal organizations.

 Linda is survived by her daughter, Michelle Kolling and husband Steve of Abilene. Grandson, Michael Kolling. One sister, Jan Johnson. She was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers and one sister.

 Funeral services for Linda will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 5, 2024 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Enterprise. Linda will be laid to rest next to her husband at the Kansas Veteran’s Cemetery, with graveside services taking place at 1:00 p .m. on Friday. Family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Danner Funeral Home.

Cleta Delores Shultz Raine passed away on Saturday (March 30, 2024) at Wellsprings of Westmoreland. &nbsp;She was born in a stone house in Wamego, Kansas, to Charles Dana and Margaret (Wyker) Shultz on a cold day on December 13, 1934. &nbsp;She attended Wamego Grade school until 2nd grade. &nbsp;Her parents moved to Wichita and she attended school at Planeview and Herrington. &nbsp;While in the 6th grade the family returned to Wamego. &nbsp;Cleta graduated in May of 1952. &nbsp;After graduation she worked in Topeka for National Life and Accident Insurance Company before returning to the farm with her husband. &nbsp;Harold and Cleta were married on April 8, 1956, in the Wamego First United Methodist Church. &nbsp;They returned to the Raine family farm in Wamego where Harold was born and raised.

She was a member and active in the First United Methodist Church serving on many Church Committees. &nbsp;The most recent was a Building Project to add on to the Church and assisted with the AWANA Group.

She worked as a missionary with the First Mercedes Christian Church during the years Harold and Cleta went to Texas for the winters making many lifelong friends. &nbsp;She belonged to other clubs but didn’t want any listed. For God knew her failures and successes and that was all that mattered.&nbsp;

&nbsp;Her husband of 57 years, Harold, preceded her in death. &nbsp;They have two sons, Michael Allen Raine and Bryan Scott Raine and his wife Shelly; three granddaughters, Sasha , Laelfa, and Alize Raine, and one grandson, Anthony Raine; and many nieces and nephews. &nbsp;They have brought much life and happiness into her life. &nbsp;She thanked God in every prayer for my family.&nbsp;

All of her siblings preceded her in death, three sisters, Alice Ballinger of Texas, Nadine Moeller of Gladstone, Missouri, and Jean Breymeyer of Wamego and one brother, Don Shultz of Topeka. &nbsp;

Private burial will be in the Wamego City Cemetery.&nbsp;

A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday morning (April 4, 2024) at 11:00 at the Wamego First United Methodist Church, 600 Lincoln, Wamego, KS with Pastor Alex Rossow officiating. &nbsp;Friends may greet and talk with the family after the service. &nbsp;

Cleta Delores Shultz Raine

Wayne Edward Cravens, 77, of Manhattan, Kansas, died Friday March 29, 2024, at Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan. &nbsp;He was a long-time resident of the area.

Wayne was born February 15, 1947, in Manhattan, the son of Roy and Vera (Perrill) Cravens. He attended grade school and graduated in 1965 from Manhattan High School. &nbsp;He received an associate degree in Auto Mechanics from Manhattan Technical College and also attended Pittsburg State University, where he studied education. Wayne served in the United State Marine Coops. &nbsp;He was stationed in Vietnam during the war.

Wayne worked for the Pottawatomie County Road and Bridge Department. &nbsp;He operated most pieces of heavy equipment, but mostly drove a grader. &nbsp;Prior to the county, Wayne worked for several different companies, Rex’s Tire, the Mobile Gas Station in Manhattan and Klepper Oil. &nbsp;He did a variety of mechanical work, including engine overhauls. &nbsp;He also owned and operated Kansas Road Runner Trucking.

Wayne was a life member of the of the American Legion and the VFW. &nbsp;

Wayne had a love for working the land, especially baling hay. He had a love for horses that he was able to pass down through the generations. &nbsp;Wayne did have a passion for online auctions and visiting and drinking coffee with friends.

Wayne married Bonnie LaMar on June 8, 1968, in Westmoreland. &nbsp;They shared over fifty-five years together. &nbsp;Bonnie survives at their home.

Wayne is also survived by his children, Laurie Ann Rogers (Eric), Topeka, Nicole Murdock (Jason), Little Elm, Texas; his grandchildren, Chelsea Korgol (Tyler), Topeka, Thomas Colgrove, Cleveland, Ohio, Amber Lee, Washington State, Justin Murdock (Anique), Pocatello, Idaho, &nbsp;Kyle Murdock, Idaho Falls, Idaho and Deborah Shaw, Topeka; his great-grandchildren, Zain, Alyson, Kaimen, Cameron, Tinsley, Aiden, Archer and Jaxon; and his siblings, Kenneth Cravens (Sandy) Manhattan, Janice Speckman, La Cruces, New Mexico, and Michael Cravens (Dani), Wamego; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, some who called him Daddy Wayne. Wayne loved all of his family, his own and his bonus family equally, who will miss him greatly.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Verlee Darlene Fronce (Larry).

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at Campanella and Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego. &nbsp;The family will greet friends prior to the service beginning at 11:00 a.m. &nbsp;They suggest memorial contributions to Ronald McDonald House Charities of NE Kansas, and those may be sent in care of the funeral home.&nbsp;

Wayne served in the United State Marine Coops. &nbsp;He was stationed in Vietnam during the war.Wayne worked for the Pottawatomie County Road and Bridge Department. &nbsp;He operated most pieces of heavy equipment, but mostly drove a grader. &nbsp;Prior to the county, Wayne worked for several different companies, Rex’s Tire, the Mobile Gas Station in Manhattan and Klepper Oil. &nbsp;He did a variety of mechanical work, including engine overhauls. &nbsp;He also owned and operated Kansas Road Runner Trucking.Wayne was a life member of the of the American Legion and the VFW. &nbsp;Wayne had a love for working the land, especially baling hay. He had a love for horses that he was able to pass down through the generations. &nbsp;Wayne did have a passion for online auctions and visiting and drinking coffee with friends.Wayne married Bonnie LaMar on June 8, 1968, in Westmoreland. &nbsp;They shared over fifty-five years together. &nbsp;Bonnie survives at their home.Wayne is also survived by his children, Laurie Ann Rogers (Eric), Topeka, Nicole Murdock (Jason), Little Elm, Texas; his grandchildren, Chelsea Korgol (Tyler), Topeka, Thomas Colgrove, Cleveland, Ohio, Amber Lee, Washington State, Justin Murdock (Anique), Pocatello, Idaho, &nbsp;Kyle Murdock, Idaho Falls, Idaho and Deborah Shaw, Topeka; his great-grandchildren, Zain, Alyson, Kaimen, Cameron, Tinsley, Aiden, Archer and Jaxon; and his siblings, Kenneth Cravens (Sandy) Manhattan, Janice Speckman, La Cruces, New Mexico, and Michael Cravens (Dani), Wamego; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, some who called him Daddy Wayne. Wayne loved all of his family, his own and his bonus family equally, who will miss him greatly.Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Verlee Darlene Fronce (Larry).A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at Campanella and Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego. &nbsp;The family will greet friends prior to the service beginning at 11:00 a.m. &nbsp;They suggest memorial contributions to Ronald McDonald House Charities of NE Kansas, and those may be sent in care of the funeral home.&nbsp;

Wayne Edward Cravens

Marla (Lefert) Forsyth, 62, of rural Abilene departed from her earthly home on Friday, March 29, 2024, after fighting a courageous nearly five-year battle with stage four colon cancer with her family and friends faithfully by her side.

 Marla was born January 1, 1962, the daughter of Leo and Rosemary (Otto) Lefert. Marla was raised on the family farm in the rural community between Wakefield and Chapman. She was baptized at the Wakefield United Methodist Church. She attended grade school at Upland and graduated from Chapman High School with the class of 1980. Marla graduated from Cloud County Community College and while she was there met the love of her life Roger Forsyth. Marla went on to Kansas State University and graduated with a degree in Interior Design. Marla and Roger were married June 2, 1984, at the Wakefield United Methodist Church. Marla and Roger made their home on the Dickinson/Clay County line. Their son Daniel was born in 1987 and daughter Elizabeth was born in 1991.Marla grew up as a 12-year-member of the Fragrant Hilltopper 4-H Club in Dickinson County She was a third-generation organizational leader for Fragrant Hill, behind her mother Rosemary and paternal grandfather Herman. 

Marla was very active in Dickinson County 4-H her entire life from being a 4-H member herself including earning her Key Award, being a club leader, Dickinson County 4-H Council Advisor, serving on the extension council and helping on many occasions on the club and county level. Marla was also an active member of the Industry Community Church where she had been a member since Roger and she were married and moved to the Industry community in 1984. Marla’s first career passion was interior design. She was a furniture sales consultant at Kansas Home Furnishings in Abilene for 8 years before moving to Orr’s Furniture City in Clay Center for 15 years. Marla’s second career was with Green Team Cars then later Friesen Dodge Chrysler Jeep and Ram in Clay Center for 16 years. Marla retired in April 2023. She continued to stay connected with many of her customers who became friends due to Marla's ability to touch people's lives in often tangible ways, and a genuine caring attitude that went above and beyond her job duties. Her grandsons Easton and Paulson were Marla's greatest joy. She enjoyed spending retirement with the boys and spending time at the home that she had lovingly cared for while raising her family and being hospitable to her friends and nearby extended family. She enjoyed hosting family and friends and continuing traditions.

Marla leaves behind her husband Roger, they would have celebrated 40 years of marriage this June; son Danny and his children Easton and Paulson; daughter Elizabeth Perks and husband Thomas; mother Rosemary Lefert; sister Nancy Kohman (Steve) and their children Megan Bieberle (Malik), Sarah Kohman (Alex), Kyle Kohman; brother-in-law JW Forsyth (Ronda); aunts Linda Lefert and Evelyn Otto; cousins Scott Otto (Darla) and children; Sandy Smith (Roger); Jennifer Schley (Kent) and children; Justin Lefert (Becky) and children; Loran Lefert (Samantha) and children and many dear friends. Marla was preceded in death by her grandson Kaysen Forsyth; father Leo Lefert; in-laws John and Imogene Forsyth; and uncles Gary Lefert and Dean Otto.

The family will receive friends and family on Tuesday, April 2nd from 5-7 p .m. at the Wakefield Methodist Church in Wakefield, KS. Services will be held Wednesday, April 3rd at 10 a.m.&nbsp; at the Wakefield Methodist Church, Wakefield, KS.&nbsp; Marla’s final resting place will be at Athelstane Cemetery.

Marla (Lefert) Forsyth

Richard Edward Sorell, 81 years old, passed away on March 28th, 2024, at his home in Manhattan, KS.

Richard was born July 6th, 1942, to Raymond and Rita (Derusseau) Sorell in Concordia, KS. Richard had a younger sister, Carolyn Desilet. Richard and Carolyn were close, and they often said they were two peas in a pod. 

Richard graduated from Clyde High School, Clyde, KS in 1960. Richard remained in Clyde until he joined the Army National Guard of Kansas. Richard completed his basic training in Company B, 1st Battalion, 3rd Regiment at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri on June 25th, 1964. 

Richard served as a 12B Combat Engineer Squad Leader and as a reserve of the Army for 6 years. He received an honorable discharge on January 7th, 1970. Richard was immensely proud of his service and enjoyed sharing his experiences with family and friends.

Richard married Carolyn Cordry on June 1st, 1966. During this marriage they had four children, Kenny, Cindy, Christine, and Julie. At this time, Richard worked for Boogaarts grocery store as a meat cutter in Washington, KS. Richard and family moved to Clifton, KS where Richard became a business owner purchasing Estelle’s Nursing Home. Richard enjoyed taking care of the maintenance and upkeep of the nursing home. Richard also continued his education going to college at Cloud County Community College in Concordia, KS.

After selling the nursing home, Richard moved to Wichita, KS to be close to his son, Kenny. During this time Richard met and married Donna Stump and worked for the City of Wichita in Parks and Recreation. 

Once Richard retired, he moved to Clyde, KS to enjoy his retirement with family and friends. In 2021, Richard made his final move to Manhattan, KS to be close to his daughter, Cindy, who helped care for him.

Richard enjoyed fishing, watching birds, walking, and riding his 3-wheel bike. He liked recreational shooting and enjoyed target practice with his grandson, Easton. Richard is well known to love music and dancing. He always had his radio on or playing his records. He was an avid Elvis fan. 

Richard enjoyed taking care of his plants, yard, and keeping an exceptionally clean house. His children always knew when he was in a good mood when he was whistling. Richard was a devout Catholic, participating in a bible and prayer group, and believing in the power of prayer.

Richard was a member of the American Legion Post 0017, and belonged to St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Manhattan, KS.

Richard is survived by his four children, Kenny Sorell of Wichita, KS, Cindy Sorell and husband Raul Hernandez of Manhattan, KS, Christine Sorell of Clyde, KS, and Julie Czapanskiy and husband Brad of Concordia, KS. Richard’s grandchildren and great grandchildren are Dalton Sorell of Wichita, KS, Caitlin and husband Jacob Durrett, and their daughter, Jovi, of Shawnee Mission, KS, Callie Charbonneau and Quentin Saner, and their son, Joseph, of Wichita, KS, Caleb Charbonneau and Taylor Mall of Clay Center, KS, Mollie and Beau DeRusseau, and their son, Oliver, of Clyde, KS, Baron Barnes, and his daughter and son, Brooklyn and Canaan, of Clyde, KS, Bradie and Tyler Heidemann, and their daughter, Taelynn, of Plymouth, NE, Josie and Riley Halfhide of Concordia, KS, Easton, and Emersyn Czapanskiy of Concordia, KS, and his sister Carolyn Desilet of Wichita, KS.
