Maxine Faye (Mapes) Oatney, age 92 of Waterville, passed away surrounded by family on July 4th, 2023 at the Blue Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center, Blue Rapids, KS.&nbsp;

She was born to Harry and Pearl (Holland) Mapes in Waterville on August 3, 1930. She graduated from Waterville High School in 1948.

She married Harris Eugene Oatney on November 22, 1948 at the Methodist Parsonage in Waterville, KS. &nbsp;He passed away in 1985.&nbsp;

Maxine worked as a public servant in nursing homes in her early years before moving to the Waterville area in 1968. She cooked at the Village Inn for several years, before going to the Waterville Grade School as their cook and custodian for 14 years. She enjoyed cooking for family, family reunions, puzzle books, playing cards, listening to country music and visiting with friends.

Maxine is survived by her four children, daughter Alice (Mick) Swearingen, son Jim (Kim) Oatney, son John (Buffy) Oatney all of Waterville, daughter Jill (Brad) Schramm, Bremen; one brother Dean (Ida) Mapes, Guam; &nbsp;two daughters-in-law, Maxine (Larry) Plegge, Marysville and Dottie Oatney, Kansas City area; eleven grandsons and several great grandchildren.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Harry; two sons Allen and Joe; two grandsons Scott Swearingen and Zack Oatney; four great grandchildren Chelsie Oatney, Brady Mills, Easton Oatney and Gabriel Oatney; two great great grandchildren, Otis and Russell Weber; and six siblings, Harry Mapes, Helen Jensen, Bill Mapes, Cecil Mapes, Delbert Mapes and June Jorgenson.

Viewing is from noon until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, July, 10, 2023 with a visitation from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Christie-Anderes Funeral Home in Waterville.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at the Waterville United Methodist Church with Pastor Berniece Ludlum officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery.

Dorothy Frances Morrow, age 82 of Clay Center, passed away Monday, June 26, 2023 at the Clay County Medical Center.

She was born on January 22, 1941 in Johnson City, Tennessee, the daughter of Alfred Clifford and Emma Myrtle (Smith) Pritchard.

She grew up in an orphanage and later in a group home for girls. She married Lloyd Montgomery Bigger in 1960 in Glendale, Arizona. They later divorced. She worked many jobs in her lifetime, from picking cotton as a teen, working in the school cafeteria in Glendale, shrimping in Gulfport, Mississippi. Her last job before retirement was with Checker Auto.

She loved fishing, playing cards, board games and spending time with her family, especially her grandkids and great-grandkids. The outdoors was her favorite place to be, often camping with her dog, Sugar.

She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Eric Johnson.

Survivors include her two daughters, Kay Johnson of Clay Center and Ann Gogel and husband Gilbert of Queen Creek, Arizona; four grandchildren, Jenifer Davies and husband Steve of Clay Center, T. J. Davis and wife Desirae of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Michael Gogel of Queen Creek, Arizona and Chad Gogel and wife Natalie of Reno, Nevada; five great grandchildren, Coby Davies, Corbyn Davies, Amber Johnson, Cole Davies, and Eliana Gogel.

A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 7, 2023 at the Clifton IOOF Cemetery, north of Clifton with Pastor Kevin Larson officiating.&nbsp; Respect calls may be made from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Thursday, July 6, 2023 with family greeting friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.

Richard R. Terrian, of Wakefield, KS joined his heavenly Father on 7/1/2023. He was surrounded by his family and sent off to his new heavenly home with an outpouring of love and support.

Richard had a full life filled with many stories, adventures and accomplishments. The most important being his loving relationship with God and His Son Jesus Christ.

Richard's family was his next love. He loved his family so very much. He had a generous loving heart and forgiving spirit. He believed in not only second chances, but as many chances as it took to make things right. He was a great listener and took his time to think before responding. He was a hard worker who always provided for his family in every way possible. He was more than a husband, father, grandpa, brother, uncle or cousin. He was our friend, our confident, our support, our love.

Richard was a proud Army veteran who retired after 20 years of service. He served in the 1st Squadron, 4th Calvary, 1st Infantry Division, who were awarded the Presidential Unit Citation Award by President Lyndon Johnson for their valiant service. He loved his country, believed in freedom and doing what he could for his fellow man.

He will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Connie of 59 plus years. His children: Richard and wife Sonya Terrian, Kristy and husband Eric Eickholt and Kami Shandy. His grandchildren: Samantha and husband Michael Duckworth, Matthew and wife Michaela Shandy, Richie Terrian Ill, Dougie Shandy and LaNae Terrian. Great grandchildren: Beckham and "baby" Shandy and Beatrice Duckworth. Sister: Doris Williams. Cousin: Carla Reetz and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 5 sisters and a grandson, Jack.

A private military service will be held in his honor at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery, Manhattan.&nbsp;

Richard R. Terrian

Arthur (Art) M. Nease, Jr. passed away peacefully at his home in Abilene, Kansas on July 3, 2023. Art was born on January 4, 1932 in Lawrence, Kansas to Arthur M. Nease, Sr. and Fannie (Abel) Nease. He attended Lawrence Liberty Memorial High School and the University of Kansas while on a Navy ROTC Scholarship.

At KU, Art was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity and particularly enjoyed music. He played the trumpet with the KU Marching Band and the string bass with the University orchestra. On weekends, Art played in a college band that played house parties and other events. Art also was in charge of the TKE Serenades, a group that that would sing to girls in sororities, dorms and scholarship halls. It was during one of these serenades that a coed from the Tri Delt house, Marilyn Sorem , first laid eyes on Art. The two started dating several years later and were married on June 14, 1959, recently celebrating their 64th Wedding Anniversary. Art graduated from KU with a degree in Business Administration and later the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Banking. He commissioned into the Navy as a Supply Officer, where he served in the Pacific. Upon completion of his Naval duties, Art went to work for the FDIC as a bank examiner. After several years with the FDIC, Art purchased the State Exchange Bank in Barnes, Kansas, where he resided as President for 30 years.

After retiring from the bank, Art and Marilyn moved to Abilene, Kansas where he worked part-time at the Eisenhower Presidential Museum and Library for almost 20 years. He loved working at the Museum because he enjoyed history and meeting people from all over the world. In Abilene, Art was active in the Kiwanis club, St. John’s Episcopal Church and sang for several years in the annual Messiah concerts at Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas.

Art’s main hobbies were golf and KU athletics. He played golf any time he could, and in his younger days traveled with friends for golf vacations and enjoyed playing in various tournaments throughout the state. As for KU, Art was a loyal Jayhawk from the cradle and held football and basketball season tickets for over 50 years. Proceeding Art in death were his parents. He is survived by wife, Marilyn; daughter, Jordan Brennan (Marc); son, Arthur Miles; grandson, Cort Brennan; sister, Patricia Dix; brother, Donald Nease (Sandra) and nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to all of Art’s caregivers from the Veteran’s Administration for their kindness and support. They were a Godsend.

A Celebratory Mass in honor of Art will be held at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 519 N. Buckeye Abilene, Kansas on Saturday, July 8 at 11:00a.m.. In lieu of flowers, family suggests memorials to the University of Kansas Endowment Association, P.O. Box 928 Lawrence, Kansas 66044.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Wilma Barten Anderes, 101, died June 30, 2023 at Chapman Valley Manor. She was born December 26, 1921 in Elmo, Kansas and graduated from DCHS in 1939. She married Albert “Bud” Anderes August 5, 1944 in Macon, Georgia while he was in the Army/Air Corp. Albert preceded Wilma in death. Their children are Michael (Mary) of Arlington, TX, Dennis (died as newborn), Catherine (Ted, deceased) of Kansas City, Missouri, and Patricia (Larry) of Chapman. Wilma has six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and nine nieces and nephews. Wilma was a wonderful homemaker. She loved cooking for family, spending time with grandchildren, playing Skipbo with any willing visitor, crocheting, reading, taking phone calls from family and friends, laughing and making you feel loved. Mass of Christian burial for Wilma will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 7, 2023 at the St. Andrews Catholic Church in Abilene with Father Peter O’Donnell as Celebrant. A parish rosary will be 9:30 a.m. Friday morning at the church. Her final reesting place will be in the Mt. St. Joseph Cemetery north of Abilene. There will be no visitation. Memorials are requested to be given to the Chapman Public Library, Abilene Food Pantry, and the Abilene St. Andrew’s Catholic School Building Fund and may be sent in care of the Danner Funeral Home, 501 N. Wilma Barten Anderes

Stephen Capps, age 77, of Manhattan, died July 4, 2023 at the Good Samaritan Society in Wamego, Kansas.

He was born in San Francisco, California, on February 10, 1946. He was preceded in death by his parents, David and OraLee Capps; his sister, Janlyn Kaspari (Bruce) and his sister Sharon Gail Trax (Clifford).

Steve is survived by his wife of 52 years, Evelyn Capps; his sister-in-law Shirley Williams, of Cottage Grove, Minnesota and brother-in-law, Bob Maner (Jo), of Collinsville, Oklahoma, and sister-in-law Betty Maner (James), of Manhattan, Kansas; and also, his numerous nieces and nephews, and his great-nieces and great nephews.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and watch NASCAR and football, especially Patrick Mahomes. Steve sold swimming pools for many years in Tulsa, Oklahoma then Sacramento, California, and finally in Wichita, Kansas until he retired.

Services for Steve will be held later in the year in Oklahoma.

Stephen Capps

Carolyn Valerius, age 76, of Manhattan, KS, died July 3, 2023, at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan.

She was born April 21, 1947, in Clay Center, KS, the daughter of James Stanley &amp; Jane (Eustace) Stanley.

While she was born in Clay Center, KS she lived her early life in California &amp; Florida. She graduated from Boca Ciega High School in Gulfport, FL and then attended the Gulfport Academy beauty school where she became a hairstylist.

She was married to Bud (James B.) Valerius on April 30, 1970 in St. Petersburg. They raised their family there until May 1979 when they moved to Manhattan to be closer to her parents.

Bud &amp; Carolyn started Economy Electric in 1980. While he did the electrical, she ran the office &amp; took care of the house &amp; the children.

Family, friends &amp; animals were her main passions during her life. She was very artistic &amp; was always looking for new ways to express her talents, whether it was through crafts or cooking &amp; baking.

Carolyn Valerius, age 76, of Manhattan, KS, died July 3, 2023, at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan. She was born April 21, 1947, in Clay Center, KS, the daughter of James Stanley &amp; Jane (Eustace) Stanley.While she was born in Clay Center, KS she lived her early life in California &amp; Florida. She graduated from Boca Ciega High School in Gulfport, FL and then attended the Gulfport Academy beauty school where she became a hairstylist.She was married to Bud (James B.) Valerius on April 30, 1970 in St. Petersburg. They raised their family there until May 1979 when they moved to Manhattan to be closer to her parents.Bud &amp; Carolyn started Economy Electric in 1980. While he did the electrical, she ran the office &amp; took care of the house &amp; the children.Family, friends &amp; animals were her main passions during her life. Max William Fritz, 76, of Manhattan, passed away Wednesday, June 21st, 2023. He was a boiler operator at the Kansas State University power plant.

Max was born in Manhattan, on September 8, 1946, the son of the late Agnes Maxine (Noland) Meek and Jerry Fritz. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and was a barber in Great Bend.

Max met his wife, Kay Sump, while he was in the Navy. They were married on June 27, 1969, in Manhattan at the First Presbyterian Church in Manhattan and were married for 52 years. They started their life as a family in Wichita, Kansas, where Max went to barber school. They moved to Lyons, then later to Ellinwood, Kansas, raising their daughters, Angela and Nicole, in Ellinwood. They had many friends in the community of Ellinwood and enjoyed the life they had built there.

Max is survived by two daughters, Angela K. Lenhart, of Manhattan, KS;

Nicole F. (Tom) Long, of Brown City, Michigan; also surviving ar his grandchildren, Jay (Dakota) Dormann, Katy (Thomas) Busby-Jordan, Taylor Lenhart, Avery Lenhart, Hannah Long, Peyton Long; great grand: children Kroy Dorman, Krese Dorman. Max was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Kay.

Arden K. Malsbury, 85, of Junction City, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Cremation will take place followed by an inurnment at Baker Cemetery, Burr Oak, Kansas. Both he and his wife will be laid to rest together. Born March 16, 1938, in Mankato, Kansas to Emory Dale Malsbury and Virginia Ruth St. Claire. Arden graduated from Cawker City High in 1956. He then joined the U.S. Navy where he served a four-year contract aboard two submarines: U.S.S. Charr and U.S.S. Bugara. While serving in the U.S. Navy, he married his wife Doris in Long Beach, California on July 5, 1958. They were happily married for 64 years and were blessed with their three children: Bernita, Grady, and Eric. Upon discharge, he went to work for the Daily Pilot newspaper in the product department. Arden also attended Orange County Community College and Santa Anna City College for electronics and computer programming on the IBM 3BA. He is survived by his three children, Bernita (Gary) Watts of Warrensburg, Missouri, Grady Malsbury of Junction City, Kansas, and Eric (Carmen) Malsbury of Lexington, South Carolina; four grandchildren, Kimberly Watts of Kansas City, Missouri, Kelly (Corey) Ryan of Augusta, Kansas, Kristina (Thomas) Klug of Overland Park, Kansas, Erica Jeffreys of Clayton, North Carolina; four great-grandchildren, Kip, Jackson, Lily, Kerri and a fifth on the way, Olsen (Ollie); and one brother, John (Lucy) Thomas of Valley Falls, Kansas. Loretta Bachan, 71, of Junction City, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, June 29, 2023. She was born on July 3, 1951, Hammond, Indiana, to Oscar and Adeline (Passmore) McLaurin. Loretta worked at J.J. BMAR, RC Kennels, and Ekridge over the years. She loved working with dogs and owned almost 30 dogs throughout her lifetime. In 1970, she married Robert Bachan. They were married for 53 years until his passing in October of 2022. Loretta is survived by her dog, Rosie; family friends, Crystal Kausler of Junction City, Kansas, Dorothy Stewart of Chapman, Kansas, LaTisha Cantu of Manhattan, Kansas, and Richard Morrow of Cunningham, Tennessee. Barb was born Nov. 25,1955 in Manhattan, KS at the Memorial Hospital to Ada May (Bentley) and Harold Jay Seymour. Barb spent almost 36 years working in local rock quarries, loving every moment! She worked for Martin Marietta and then Bayer Construction. Barb was a proud K-State alumni ‘77, and brought others that enthusiasm whether working at KSU games, selling merchandise at Kansas Kollections, or watching and attending the games. She was rooting for K-State all the way through their tournament game. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church.

Barb was married to William “Bill” Dean Currier on Nov 6, 1982 at the Zeandale Church. Barb leaves behind her four children, their partners, and grandchildren: Brett (Michael Evans) of Kansas City, MO, daughter Charity Lopez (Jose) and grandson Nathaniel of Vero Beach FL, David (Tania Gonzalez) of Bremerton, WA and Edward (Amy), twins Isla and Grayson of Bremerton, WA. A family service will be held later with a memorial to follow this summer at Grace Baptist Church 2901 Dickenson Ave. Manhattan, KS. Barb was preceded by her parents Ada May and Harold Jay Seymour, her baby sister Margarete, and her older brother Randall Ridgway. Perry E. Gile, 88, of Manhattan, formerly of Beatrice, Nebraska and Concordia, Kansas passed away Sunday afternoon on June 25th, 2023 in Manhattan.

Perry was born on a farm near Norway, Kansas, on May 9, 1935, the son of Julia Louise (Holgerson) and Walter LeRoy Gile. He was a graduate of Concordia High in 1953 and was united in marriage to Margaret Jean (Ryser) on November 22, 1953. He started working at Duckwall's on September 1951 and retired on January 30, 1991, after 39 years and five months.

Perry is survived by his wife Margaret and daughter Susan Zimmerman (Ervin) of Manhattan, Kansas. grandchildren Travis Cody, Shawn Zimmerman, (Jamie) Joscelyn Cody, Heather Mills (AJ), Kristine, Donahue (Tom), and Kyle Schimenti (Samantha). Great grandchildren Klayton, Ashley, Dawson, Delaney, Amelia, Anthony, Aaron, Mila, and Leighton. Baby Schimenti is to arrive in November. Sisters Joan Meili, Louise Kempton, Gertrude Heide, Janet Shrader, and Martha Gebhart (Jack).

Preceding him in death were daughters Rebecca Anzman, Kathleen Schimenti, and Nancy Gile. Parents Walter and Julia Gile, Brother Glenn, sisters Jean, Aileen, Elizabeth, Phyllis, and Marie.

A graveside service will be in Concordia, Kansas, at the Pleasant View Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. on July 8th, 2023.

Perry E. Gile

Daniel (Danny) James Kitt Jr. of Olsburg, Kansas unexpectedly passed away on June 27, 2023. Dan was a long-time resident of Pottawatomie County Kansas. He was a member of the Coeur D' Alene tribe in Idaho where he grew up on the reservation.

He was the son of Daniel James Kitt Sr and Patricia Bedwell. Daniel was the oldest of six children. At the age of 15, Daniel Kitt Sr. tragically passed away. Daniel Jr. stepped up to help his mother raise his younger siblings.

Daniel married Danielle Dexter on September 18, 2010, in Manhattan, Kansas.

Dan was concerned for his fellow man and devoted his life to Public Service. He was passionate about his country and showed his patriotism through his dedicated service. &nbsp;Dan was a decorated disabled Air Force Veteran. He had deployments to Italy, Korea, and Bosnia. He was the Chaplin’s Assistant. Amongst other duties, he was responsible for providing security for the Chaplin in conflict zones. &nbsp;After his discharge, he was employed as a jailor/transport officer with the Pottawatomie County Sheriff's Dept. For the last five years, he served as the Captain of the Jail for Pottawatomie County. Dan later worked for the Riley County Transfer Station. He had a rock-solid work ethic and was passionate about everything he accomplished throughout his life.

&nbsp;Dan had a creative passion for constructing miniatures and tabletop gaming terrain. He spent many hours wearing magnifying glasses painting the fine details of the miniatures until they were perfectly finished. Daniel had a great sense of humor, and his laugh was contagious. He loved his family, and walking hand-in-hand with his wife, Danielle, and their dog Gabbie. He enjoyed helping his father-in-law with his ranch and cattle. &nbsp;On the ranch, Dan was just as creative. When something broke, he found an unorthodox way of fixing it. Often, he was met with doubt for his “fix it” creativity but to everyone’s surprise, it always seemed to work. Most importantly Dan was a role model of strength, a fierce protector, compassionate, selfless, and a master at problem-solving with a steady calm. &nbsp;

Dan was loved by all, and he is greatly missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Danielle, and Bonus-daughter Alexis Potts of the home. Son, Jon (Courtney) Chiantaretto Kentucky, Daughter, Kourteney Kitt Colorado, and three Grandchildren. He was a member of the Coeur D' Alene tribe in Idaho where he grew up on the reservation.He was the son of Daniel James Kitt Sr and Patricia Bedwell. Daniel was the oldest of six children. At the age of 15, Daniel Kitt Sr. tragically passed away. Daniel Jr. stepped up to help his mother raise his younger siblings.Daniel married Danielle Dexter on September 18, 2010, in Manhattan, Kansas.Dan was concerned for his fellow man and devoted his life to Public Service. He was passionate about his country and showed his patriotism through his dedicated service. &nbsp;Dan was a decorated disabled Air Force Veteran. He had deployments to Italy, Korea, and Bosnia. Daniel (Danny) James Kitt Jr. - November 3, 1971 - June 27, 2023

Cynthia Ann Worthing, 74, of Wamego, Kansas, passed away on Friday (June 30, 2023) at her home in Wamego.

Born June 30, 1949 in Beloit, Kansas, Cynthia was the daughter of Marvin Glen and Marieta Magdalene (Adams) &nbsp;Eberhart. She was raised in Jewell, Kansas and graduated with her degree from Vernons School of Cosmetology. She moved to Wamego in 1979. &nbsp;She married Clifford Ray “CR” Worthing on January 1, 1981 at the Wamego United Methodist Church. He preceded her in death on April 3, 2020.

An active member of the Wamego Community, Cynthia was involved with many groups and committees over the years, most recently as a member of the committee that installed the new pickleball and basketball courts. She loved playing pickleball!

She was a member of the Sweet Adelines and the Wamego Country Club. Cynthia loved life and sharing her life with her family and friends. &nbsp;She enjoyed traveling across the United States and had taken trips to Europe, Costa Rica and Australia. She especially enjoyed her mother/daughter trips to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. &nbsp;While on her trips, she always wanted to enjoy and experience the local culture.

Cynthia was known for her cooking, especially her banana bread cobbler. &nbsp;She will be remembered for her generosity to anyone who was in need and for her favorite saying, “It is what it is”.

Cynthia owned and operated several local businesses, including the Amoco Station, C. W’s Fabulous Finds and the Last Stop which she sold in 2017. &nbsp;She also helped her husband as the bookkeeper for CR’s Tire and Automotive for many years.

Cynthia was Mom to Tambria “Tammy” Pfannenstiel and her husband, Mark of Wichita, KS; Nana to Gavin McGee, Chloe McGee, Trent Pfannenstiel and Taylor Pfannenstiel; Sister to David Warren Eberhart and his wife, Dee of Lindsborg, KS; and Sister in law to Linda Worthing Cottrell of Wamego, KS and Gordon Worthing and his wife, Kim of Lyndon, KS. &nbsp;She is also survived by nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, CR.

Memorial services will be held on Thursday (July 20, 2023) at 10:30 a.m. at the Campanella &amp; Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego with Rev. Alex Rossow officiating. &nbsp;Inurnment will be in the Belvue Cemetery following the service.

Visitation will be Thursday morning (July 20, 2023) from 9:30 until the time of services at the funeral home.

Lesa Jane Adee, 68 of Junction City, passed away June 24, 2023. She was born February 1, 1955 in Salina, Kansas, the daughter of Dean and Patricia (Eggleston) Davis. She graduated from Escalon High School in California. Lesa was a selfless, caring person who loved bringing joy to anyone she met, and her grandchildren were her pride and joy.

 Lesa is survived by her daughters, Rachael Gehringer and Ranie Grebin. Two brothers: Mike and Tim Davis; sister, Linda Swartz and brother-in-law Lester Burleson. Five grandchildren: Kaleb Harwood; Jerek Humphrey; Rylan Gehringer; Sam Gehringer and Ivris Grebin. One great grandson, Oliver Pastran. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Teresa Burleson.

Betty Jean Mosier, age 99, of Manhattan, died June 27, 2023, at Meadowlark Hills – Collins House.

She was born June 15, 1924, in Elmdale, Kansas, the daughter of Roy and Gertrude “Gaga” (Hayden) Willey.

Betty grew up in Emporia and Wellington, Kansas, and graduated from Wellington High School in 1941. She moved to Manhattan in September of 1941 and attended Secretarial School and worked for a building company prior to attending Kansas State College, where she was a cheerleader. She was married to Dr. Jacob E. “Jake” Mosier on September 16, 1945, at the First United Methodist Church in Manhattan. Following the birth of her four children Betty returned to Kansas State and graduated Cum Laude in 1968.

Betty was a homemaker and loved her family and the privilege of having all of her children returning to live in Manhattan. She was active with the children’s school activities including Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts and being a room mother.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, P.E.O – FK, Alpha Delta Pi, KSU Social Club, Review Club, KVMA Aux., AVMA Aux., KSU Alumni Association Board, “The Art of it All” Board at the Town Center Mall and the Creative Arts Guild. Her honorary memberships include Phi Kappa Phi, Tau Sigma Delta and Delta Phi Delta.

Betty was an amazing artist and excelled in watercolors, enjoyed stamp art, gardening, sewing and decorating.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Jacob “Jake” Mosier on April 25, 2001.

Survivors include her four children: Dr. Steven Mosier (Diane), Dr. Michael Mosier (Becky), Dr. Kelly Mosier (Katrina) and Dr. Susan Mosier all of Manhattan; grandchildren: Zachary Mosier (Dene), Dr. Noah Mosier (Jennica), Joshua Mosier (Tara), Dr. Katie Sutton (James), Maggie Ubel (Tim), Dr. Annie Mosier Eslit (Shane), Amie Musselman (Paul), Whitney Mosier-Jacobs (Brandon), and Ty Mosier (Abbie); and great grandchildren: Grace, Gabrielle, Stella, Claire, Isaac, Decker, Sadie, Emma, Becca, Mila, Jacob, Isabelle, Jacob, Avery, Finley, Walker and Violet.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 3rd, at the First United Methodist Church, 612 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, with Pastor Donna Voteau officiating.&nbsp; Interment will follow in the Sunrise Cemetery in Manhattan.

Bradley John Brown, 67, passed away June 26, 2023. The son of John Pershing and Evelyn J. Brown, he was born January 4th, 1956 in Manhattan, Kansas. He grew up in Manhattan graduating from Manhattan High in 1974.&nbsp; A natural athlete he competed and won at state for tennis and was an avid basketball player and swimmer. He attended Manhattan Area Vocational-Technical School in the electric and power distribution program in 1975 and then received his associate of applied science degree from Brown Mackie College in 1989. Additionally he had a deep faith and was ordained as a minister in 2014. Brad also was a freemason and member of the Grand Lodge of Kansas A.M. &amp; F.M.

Brad spent his career working as a contractor and had a great proficiency for many technical skills. However, his greatest love was music. From an early age he loved writing and playing music especially in the company of his friends. He was a member of numerous bands throughout his life and went by his stage name of “Hank Diamond.” At the time of his death, he was the bass player for The Riders, as well as a member of Crosswinds band.

He was known to his family as the life of the party and was always ready to entertain or crack a joke. He was kind, humble, and always willing to help.

Brad is preceded in death by his parents, John and Evelyn Brown, and his sister, Cathy (Brown) Lykens. He is survived by his brother Chris Brown of Manhattan, KS, nephew Clint Brown of Manhattan, KS, niece Emily (Lykens) Lane of Overland Park, KS, and nephew Andrew Lykens of Reno, NV, as well as dozens of beloved cousins.

Michael Joseph Heiberger, age 89, of Manhattan, died June 23, 2023, at Stormont Vail Health in Topeka.

He was born February 20, 1934, in Genoa City, Wisconsin, the son of Michael and Sophia (Eder) Heiberger.

He served one year in the National Guard when he was 17, then served in the United States Navy for four years from 1953 to 1957 as a ET2 and attended Electronics School (Class A) for nine months.

Mike attended Loyola University, earned his Associate’s degree from Wright University and his Bachelor’s degree from IIT Research Institute all in Chicago.

He worked at IIT as a Research Technician, in 1978 the family moved to Manhattan and Mike was the Building Administrator for Woolworth / Foot Locker in Junction City until his retirement in 1994.

Mike was a member of American Legion Post # 17.

Mike loved his family and was a great husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather “Big Papa”. He worked hard, was handy with many things including electronics, computers 3-D printers, woodworking and gardening. He enjoyed traveling and after Covid he loved staying at home with Gloria and watching movies. He was Gloria’s everything.

On August 4, 1954, in Chicago, IL, he was married to his high school sweetheart Gloria Jean Spruth. Gloria and Mike celebrated 69 years of marriage “Loving each other to the moon and back”. Gloria and Mike raised their children in Elk Grove Village, IL, prior to moving to Manhattan.

Survivors include Gloria of Manhattan; three children: Michael Heiberger (Mary) of McKinney, TX, Jeanne Klick (Preston) and Jolyn Willbrant (John) of Manhattan; six grandchildren: Katisha Chappell-Horswell (Tony), Kasaundra Heiberger-McAllaster (Michael), Kaitlyn Heiberger-Chidester (Tanner), Christopher Klick (Melissa), Jenna Haas (Tom), David Willbrant (Jordan); and 11great-grandchildren: Kohan Chappell, Lexi Lynn Horswell, Llewelyn McAllister, Finneas McAllister, Lucy Lynn Chidester, Dustin Chidester, Ella Jane Klick, Callie Marie Klick, Hunter James Haas, Karsyn Marie Haas and David James Willbrant.

Mike was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.

A Celebration of Mike’s Life will be held 1:30 p.m. Friday, August 4th, at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel. Inurnment with military honors will follow in the Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery at Fort Riley.

Elizabeth Ann “Beth” Kuykendall, 75, of Seguin, Texas, passed away on Monday (June 19, 2023) at the home of her niece in Wamego, Kansas.

Born January 26, 1948, in Montclair, New Jersey, Beth was the daughter of Edward Joseph and Ottina Mayerhoffer Plendl. &nbsp;She married Forrest Lee Kuykendall on September 14, 1973, in Corpus Christi, Texas. &nbsp;He preceded her in death on October 13, 2017.

Beth was a graduate of Texas A&amp;M Corpus Christi, and earned her Master Degree in Special Education. Many of her favorite years were spent teaching in Mathis, Texas, where she made friends that became family to her.

She loved being outdoors and spending time with her dogs, friends, and family. She never met a stranger and made everyone feel like they were family. Beth knew every pet in the neighborhood, often stopping to chat with them and offer treats. Her smile and laughter were infectious, and wherever she was, she spread joy. Beth embodied kindness, often volunteering and helping family and friends, no matter the need. She loved completing home renovation projects with her dear friend, Janine.

Survivors include her sister, Edna Nixdorff, of Toms River, NJ; her niece, Jennifer Topliff (Adam) of Wamego, KS; her nephew, Darryl Haley of Leesburg, FL; and great nieces and great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Forrest; sister-in-law Etta Kuykendall; and a nephew, John Haley.

Cremation arrangements are in the care of Campanella &amp; Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego. No services will be held, at Beth’s request.

Marybelle Davis, 89, of Manhattan, Kansas, formerly of Oak Hills, California, died peacefully on Sunday, June 25, 2023, at her home with family holding her hands. She moved to Kansas two years ago to be close to family but was a California girl through and through.

Marybelle was born July 5, 1933, in San Diego, California, the only child of Frederick E. VonMeeden, Jr. and Marjorie Gladiola (Talley) VonMeeden. She grew up in San Diego, California attending school in La Jolla for most of her education. Just before her senior year of high school she moved overseas with her mother and stepfather to Japan where she graduated from Tokyo American High School in 1951. &nbsp;While attending school in Japan, she met her future husband, who was instantly smitten with her. After graduation, Marybelle returned to San Diego, enrolling in college at San Diego State University. She didn't attend SDSU for very long before marrying Jackie Lawrence Davis on September 24, 1951, at the Wee Kirk O' the Heather Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas Nevada. They were married almost sixty-three years when Jack preceded her in death on March 4, 2016.

During their marriage, Marybelle and Jack travelled the world through Jack's work with Bechtel Corporation. They moved wherever the job took them, and they lived in numerous locations over the years, both state-side and abroad. Marybelle was a mother before anything else; she was an accomplished homemaker, ensuring wherever they lived the family was comfortable and happy. Marybelle was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, a Cub Scout leader, and an active member of the Bechtel Wives, a group that helped families new to Bechtel with the challenges of working for a world-wide construction company. &nbsp;In their retirement years, Jack and Marybelle settled in Oak Hills California where they built their dream home to receive family and friends and throw the best parties around. &nbsp;She and Jack were well known for holding an annual “Pig Roast” at their desert home, where as many as a couple hundred people would amass for a weekend of live music, and a in-ground, pit-cooked, whole hog with all the fixings. Family and friends from near and far came out en masse for the event. Over the years, Marybelle and Jack were members of the High Desert Racers, racing dune buggies and land-speed cars, and they also enjoyed taking their classic 1931 Dodge Brothers car "Miss Marybelle" around to car shows and driving in parades. They enjoyed camping in their motorhome with their usual crew of friends and traveled often to Mexico, spending many fun times in San Felipe, Baja, and Puerto Peñasco. Marybelle loved to crochet and knit, was an avid bowler, hosted Bunco and other card games at her home with friends and was a crack shot having been on the rifle team as a Sophomore in High School. She was an avid collector of Wizard of Oz memorabilia, and was in absolute heaven when she got to visit the Oz Museum in Wamego. She loved a good martini with olives and she will be sorely missed.

Marybelle is survived by her sons; David L. Davis (Lynn), Jeffersonville, Indiana and Curtiss L. Davis, Manhattan, Kansas; five grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren; and her daughter-in-law, Pamalla Davis, Vallejo, California. &nbsp;She was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Richard Lee Davis, and her daughter-in-law, Lori Davis.

Marybelle will be entombed next to Jackie at Desert View Memorial Park in Victorville, California.

Glenn G. "Opey" Fink, Jr., 73, of Junction City, Kansas, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 25, 2023 with family by his side. Cremation will take place. He was born on June 19, 1950, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to Glenn Fink, Sr. and Ruth (Gallagher) Fink. Glenn loved motorcycles and owned multiple throughout the years. He also enjoyed detailing vehicles, yard work, and watching Nascar and football. Glenn was a member of the Middletown Moose for over 40 years. He also loved spending time with his family and friends. On August 1, 1981, he married Patricia (Hurt) Fink in Middletown, Pennsylvania. Glenn is survived by his loving wife, Patricia, of the home; his daughter, Kimberly (John) Clark of Junction City, Kansas; two grandchildren, Stephanie (Michael) Newlon of Junction City, Kansas, Cody Clark of Junction City, Kansas: and six great grandchildren.
