Paul Joseph Rodenbaugh of Techumseh, KS, passed away Saturday, April 15,
 2023. He was born January 23, 1944, in Topeka, KS, the son of Mathias 
and Edith (Brubaker) Rodenbaugh of St. Marys, KS. Paul was a 1962 
graduate of St.Marys High School and attended business college in 
Topeka. He worked in the business office at Santa Fe Railroad and at 
Topeka salvage pool. He married Faye Valburg-Fischer in 1963 and they were
 blessed with four children; daughters Marjorie Ann Haynie of Duluth KS,
 and Deanna Lorien Warren of Overbrook, KS, sons James Anthony 
Rodenbaugh (Sue) of Smithfield, NC, and Andrew Mathias Rodenbaugh of 
Paxico, KS. They later divorced. He later married Carol Goodson in 1988 
having been blessed with a son, Nelson Mathias Rodenbaugh. He was 
preceded in death by his parents, sister, Anna Mae McMorris, brothers, 
Leo and Bernard Rodenbaugh, and a great-grandson Tyler James Rodenbaugh. Survivors
 include his five children, wife, Carol, she resides at their home, 
sister Helen Cormie of Belvedere IL, seven grandchildren and five 
great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews, and friends. Funeral
 services will be held Saturday, April 22,2023, at 10:00 AM at the Piper 
Funeral Home, 714 Maple St., St. Marys, KS. The family 
requests, in leu of flowers, donations be made to the American Heart

Sister Christina Meyer died April 15, 2023, at Nazareth Motherhouse in
 Concordia, KS.&nbsp; She was 86 years old and a Sister of St. Joseph for 71 
years. &nbsp;

She was born in Quinter, KS on September 8, 1936, to 
Jacob and Theresa Phlieger Meyer, the fifth of ten children, and was 
baptized Christina Marie.&nbsp; 

She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph,
 Concordia, KS on February 2, 1952.&nbsp; On August 14, 1952, Christina 
received the habit of the Sisters of St. Joseph and was given the name 
Sister Mary Cleopha, later changing back to her baptismal name.&nbsp; She 
pronounced first vows on August 15, 1953 and final vows on September 9, 
1957.

In 1968, S. Christina received her BS from Marymount in 
psychology; followed by a MS in education in 1972 from Kansas State 
University in Manhattan. In 1988 she received a Certificate in Graduate 
Studies in applied theology from Graduate Theological Union and School 
of Applied Theology. &nbsp;She taught in schools staffed by the Sisters of 
St. Joseph in Chicago, IL; Silver City, NM; Aurora, IL; Fairbury, NE; 
Gorham, KS; and Gladstone, MI.&nbsp; 

S. Christina served on the 
Executive Council of the Congregation &nbsp;from 1979 to 1987. &nbsp;She served in
 several capacities in parish ministry after leaving the Council. She 
also served in Congregational Ministries as Director of Mission Appeals 
and Co-Coordinator of the CSJ Justice and Peace Center. &nbsp;In May, 2021, 
Sister Christina retired to the Motherhouse.

S. Christina Meyer was preceded in death by her parents and one brother. She is survived by five sisters and one brother.

A
 Bible Vigil Service will be held April 21 at 9:30 a.m. in the Nazareth 
Motherhouse Chapel with Sister Marcia Allen as the eulogist.&nbsp; The Mass 
of Christian Burial will be April 21 at 10:30 a.m. in the Motherhouse

Robert Alva Arnold Jr. (Bob,Bobby) &nbsp;Age 74,born in Sabetha, Ks 
(8/9/48), left his&nbsp;earthly home on Friday April 14th, 2023, at&nbsp;Midland 
Hospice in Topeka, Ks.

Bob suffered with&nbsp;dementia for&nbsp;nearly 20 years. The disease 
had took its toll;&nbsp;however he was still residing at home with his wife 
Lois (Rudder) of 55 years of marriage.&nbsp;(June 1, 1967). During his 
lifetime Bob&nbsp;enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping, mushroom &nbsp;hunting and 
most of all his life with Lois and &nbsp;their four daughters and many 
grandchildren.&nbsp;

Bob was a Vietnam Vet, seeing active duty in A Shau Valley, 
the city of Hue, the Ho Chi Minh trail, all very near the DMZ. He was 
wounded twice and received&nbsp;two Purple Hearts for defending our country.

He is survived by his wife, Lois Marie of the home. &nbsp;Debbie
 (Arnold) Ratner (daughter) and Darren Kizziah&nbsp;(fiancee) of Wakarusa, 
Ks. Cody Ratner (grandson) of Topeka. Cheyenne Ratner 
(granddaughter),&nbsp;Waylon West (great grandson) of Topeka. Shelby Ratner

Friday, April 21, 2023, at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, Hiawatha. Bob Mills

Eudora J. McQueen, 90, passed away Friday, April 14, 2023, from injuries she received in an auto accident.

She was born in rural Jackson County on April 15, 1932, the daughter 
of Emery E. and Bertha R. (Dibbern) Eakin.&nbsp; Eudora graduated from Delia 
High School in 1950.

Eudora and her husband Harold were farmers and ranchers.&nbsp; She was a 
member of the Delia Presbyterian Church and the UPW.&nbsp; She was very 
active in her community and church.&nbsp; Eudora worked for the United States
 Postal Service and USD #321 for several years.&nbsp; She served on the 
election board for many years.&nbsp; She was recently elected to serve as the
 clerk of Adrian Township and the Republican Committee Woman for the 
township.&nbsp; Eudora was a member of the Monday quilt group that started as
 the Presbyterian woman and later ladies of the community.&nbsp; She was a 
crafter and had made over a hundred quilts for family, friends, and the 
Delia Bazaar.&nbsp; She helped with concessions at many auctions.&nbsp; Eudora was
 a member of Delia Pride and a past member of the Eastern Star.

Eudora Eakin and Harold McQueen were united in marriage on October 
18, 1952, at the Circleville Christian Church.&nbsp; He preceded her in death
 on March 2, 2009.&nbsp; Eudora was also preceded by her parents, her twin 
brother Edward Eakin and her sister Ivaleu Miller.

Survivors include her sons, Lee (Patty) McQueen, Kearney, NE and Glen
 McQueen, Delia; her daughter, Denise (Paul) Virgadamo, New Port Richey,
 FL; three grandchildren, Megan, McQueen, Kansas City, MO, Kurt McQueen,
 Benton, AR, and Gwen McKay, Oakland, CA.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at 
the Delia Presbyterian Church.&nbsp; Burial will be in the Delia Cemetery.&nbsp;

Eudora June McQueen

Mitchell Lynn McCorkle, 69, passed away Monday, April 10, 2023, at Select Specialty Hospital in Kansas City, KS.

Mitchell was born in Emporia, KS on April 18, 1953, the son of Ovid “Corky” and Mayetta McCorkle. He attended the Emporia technical college where he studied electrical and then HVAC. He married Rita on August 29, 1972, in Emporia, KS. Mitchell worked for Modern Air in Emporia before moving to Manhattan, where he spent the next 20 years working for M&amp;S Plumbing. He eventually moved on and worked for McDonald’s traveling between Wamego and Abilene working on the HVAC systems up until his retirement.

Mitchell had a heart of gold and was always willing to help those around him. He had a funny sense of humor and an addictive personality. His family, friends, and co-workers always knew they could rely on him. He enjoyed spending time with his family whether it was going to the park, taking vacations, or going to the lake to roast hotdogs and marshmallows. He also enjoyed taking pictures and would frequently be asked to assist with taking photos for special occasions. Mitchell attended bible study and church regularly. He wanted to continue to grow close to God while helping others to learn about him as well.

Mitchell is survived by his wife, Rita McCorkle of Manhattan, along with 4 sons, Michael of Manhattan, Richard (wife Becky) of North Carolina, Joseph (wife Didi) of Texas, and James (wife Lea) of Washington State, as well as one daughter, Desiree (husband Montell) of Manhattan/ Kansas City, and 7 grandkids, Raven, Carlos, Lillian, Zoey, Nevada, Jaydyn, and Eli, and 2 great grandkids. He also leaves behind 3 sisters, Anita Stroud (husband Cal) of Utah, Nancy Latimer of El Dorado, KS, and Donna Carpenter (husband Dave) of Lebo, KS, and several nieces and nephews.

her home in Montezuma.&nbsp; She was born on October 4, 1936, in Hereford, 
Texas, the daughter of Homer and Luella (Higgins) Thomas.

Ella Sue spent her childhood in Hereford 
where she graduated high school.&nbsp; She went on to further her education

wedding aniversary this past September. They lived in Texas, Nebraska,

 Ella Sue was the office manager for Jack’s law practice.&nbsp; After 
retirement, they made their home in Montezuma.

She was a devoted wife and mother, taking 
care of her home and their three daughters.&nbsp; Ella Sue also worked as a 
paraprofessional for children with special needs.

 Montezuma; three daughters, Sue Lynn Heath of Montezuma, Cynthia Noll 
and husband Greg of Newton, and Sondra Koehn and husband Danny of 
Montezuma; two siblings, Frances Smith of Dimmitt, Texas and Glenn 
Thomas and wife Mozelle of Amarillo, Texas; sisters-in-law, Gloria 
Thomas and Hazel Heath of Houston, Texas; five grandchildren, Rachel Eck
 and husband Brandon of North Newton, John-Mark Noll and wife Valerie of
 Craig, Colorado, Brandon Noll and wife Marilyn of Newton, Heath Koehn 
of Montezuma, and Weston Koehn and wife Keri of Manhattan; and seven 
great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents and a

Warren Richard Slingsby, age 74 of Green, passed away Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

He was born on October 21, 1948, in Clay Center, the son of Donald and
 Mae (Limbrey) Slingsby.&nbsp; He grew up on a farm north of Clay Center and 
helped with farm work, dairy cattle and hogs.&nbsp; He graduated from Clay 
County Community High School and was active in FFA.&nbsp; Following high 
school he earned a degree in auto mechanics from Beloit Vo-Tech.

On June 9, 1973, in Green, he married Rhonda Sue Simnitt.&nbsp; She survives of the home.

Over the years, Warren worked at Moore Motors, Primrose Motors, 
Toburen Implement, Fullington Lumber and Clay Center Public Utilities.&nbsp; 
He was a member of the Green United Methodist Church and served on 
numerous boards such as the Clay Center Historical Museum, Credit Union,
 Green United Methodist Church, Green Rural Fire Department and Green 
Community Center.

He coached T-Ball when his sons were young and he enjoyed fishing, 
hunting and working on old tractors.&nbsp; Warren didn’t know a stranger and 
was a friend to all.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Jeremy Clinton 
Slingsby of Green and Kyle Richard Slingsby and wife Angela of Clay 
Center; three grandchildren, Lukas, Kade and Piper Slingsby of Clay 
Center; one brother, Robert Slingsby and wife Erlene of Clay Center; one
 sister, Elaine Beswick of Green; his mother-in-law, Leora Simnitt of 
Clay Center; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-laws, nieces, nephews and 
numerous relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law, Myron Simnitt and his brother-in-law, Ed Beswick

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 21, 2023, at
 the Green United Methodist Church with Pastor Sarah Gill officiating.&nbsp;

the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.&nbsp; Burial will be in the Green Fancy

Warren Richard Slingsby

Donald E. Rathbone died peacefully at Meadowlark Hills, Manhattan, 
Kansas, on April 11, 2023. He lived a long 94 years, an incredible life 
after his birth January 22, 1929, in Havre, Montana. He was the son of 
Fay and Cora Rathbone who resided in nearby Harlem. Don will be 
remembered as an athlete, scholar, and influencer of the engineering 
profession, not only as Dean of Engineering at Kansas State University 
(K-State) but, nationally and internationally. His influence was 
significant and what follows is an overview of a life well lived.

Basketball
 and tennis in high school were two of his activities but he also 
learned to play bridge and his lifelong love of Dixieland jazz was 
sparked. He honed his skills in tennis at Purdue University during his 
undergraduate years while he began to win bridge tournaments, debated, 
and sang in the choir. During his professional years he became a 
nationally ranked bridge player, continued playing a mean game of tennis
 and mastered the game and art of influencing people on the golf course.
 His daughter, however, started beating him aged twelve.

His
 thorough approach in scholarship was recognized in high school with 
awards including the Bausch &amp; Lomb Award for outstanding students in
 science. Don was not only a valedictorian in his small high school, he 
was first in his class at Purdue in 1951. He earned an MS at 
Northwestern University (NU) and sought a Ph.D. in Electrical 
Engineering. His scholarship and research skills were recognized by his 
major advisor. Don was asked by his advisor to move to the University of
 Pittsburgh where he was named a Westinghouse Scholar and worked for 
Westinghouse. He earned his doctorate with high honors (1962) and met a 
very talented medical graphic artist at Westinghouse who was drawing the
 assemblies which described the then secret, US nuclear submarine fleet.
 He married a medical illustrator, Lynne Jordan in April 1966 and 
embarked on a marriage of 54 years.

Don’s influence on 
the profession was enhanced with “people skill” development when he was 
the overseer of the resident assistants in his dormitory at NU. He 
learned the art and science of teaching and leading research at NU and 
Pitt. It was his profound understanding that the learning of each 
student and faculty member is paramount in a university’s purpose was 
established from these early experiences. Rising rapidly in leadership 
as a faculty member, he applied for and was named Department Head of 
Electrical Engineering at the University of Idaho in 1968. A national 
search selected Don as Dean of Engineering at K-State in 1973, where 
upon his retirement in 1997 he was the longest serving Dean of 
Engineering in the nation.

He hit the ground running at
 K-State with two major efforts to make this the finest undergraduate 
engineering college in the nation: 1) the improvement of the teaching 
and administrative environment in Seaton Hall and 2) a major scholarship
 campaign. He is said to have painted the walls himself in colors other 
than the drab paint supplied at the time. His efforts started with the 
raising of funds for the Chemical Engineering program in Durland Hall, 
the building of Durland Phase II, (now named Rathbone Hall), and Fiedler
 Hall.

Although facilities are important to 
productivity, Don knew the importance of learning in a talented and 
inspired student body. He set a goal to create a fund which could offer 
large scholarships to outstanding high school students. He traveled 
statewide to explain engineering, discover future engineering scholars 
and build K-State academic programs to a position of excellence. He 
taught all engineering honors students for two decades emphasizing 
ethics, professionalism and what engineering is and will become as 
science enhances the engineer’s knowledge to do more for the betterment 
of people.

During his tenure, the K-State engineering 
student population rose from about 1000 to 2600 undergraduates and from 
150 to 500 graduate students. His understanding of the value of 
diversity of thought extended to an early focus encouraging women to 
study engineering and a bit later motivated an effort with minorities. 
The first woman faculty member was appointed during his time as Dean. He
 was a strong advocate for increased faculty salaries. Research 
increased 20-fold to $10 million. The college added five departments and
 several national centers of excellence. He was one of the founders of 
the National Institute for Land Management and Training with his vision 
of the role of engineering in improving life.

His 
influence nationally included consulting and professional society 
leadership. He spent a lifetime consulting to many industrial firms, 
governmental agencies and the National Academy of Sciences. His many 
years of leadership included the Kansas State Board of Technical 
Professions, the Order of the Engineer, Professional Engineers in 
Education / National Society of Professional Engineers and the American 
Society for Engineering Education. Don worked nationally to license and 
continue educating working engineers through the National Council of 
Examiners for Engineering and Surveying and improving engineering 
accreditation through ABET. He created many opportunities for 
engineering faculty members and promoted engineering through 
collaboration between deans and industry.

Recognition 
flowed his way. He was named distinguished alumnus from the University 
of Montana, the University of Pittsburgh and is a member of the 
Engineering Hall of Fame at Kansas State University. To name a few 
others, he was named Fellow by the Institute of Electrical and 
Electronics Engineers, a Fellow of the American Society for Engineering 
Education and presented the Meritorious Service Award from Phi Kappa 
Phi. He also received a Life Achievement Award for service to minority 
students.

Don served the state and local community as 
an elder of the Presbyterian church, President of Rotary, United Way 
Board, a member of the Chamber of Commerce, and the Greater Manhattan 
Community Foundation Board of Directors. He served as a Trustee, KSU 
Foundation and the Kansas Research Foundation, and he founded the Kansas
 Entrepreneurial Center. He worked many years to enhance high school 
math education and both the Kansas Senate and House of Representatives 
passed resolutions honoring him for his efforts. The state mathematics 
competition (MATHCOUNTS) was named in Don and Lynne’s honor in 2021.

He
 was preceded in death by his wife Lynne, his parents, three older 
brothers and their wives, Wallace (Laura), Kenneth (Mary Ann) and Lars. 
He is survived by his daughter Lynda Rathbone who currently resides in 
Ibiza, Spain, as well as nieces, Teri Rathbone, Carol Waagmeester, Patty
 Lamb, Joanne Clyde, and Susan McFarlane.

Funeral 
services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, April 19th, at the First 
Presbyterian Church, 801 Leavenworth St. Manhattan, KS 66502, with 
Reverend Jason Pittman officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset 
Cemetery in Manhattan.

Jacqueline Sue Cline, age 83, of Manhattan passed away on April 13th 
after a brief battle with lung cancer. She was surrounded by her loved 
ones at the time she passed.

Jackie was born March 4, 
1940, in Troy, Ohio.  She is predeceased by her parents Alonzo and Irene
 (Wetzel) Strawser of Dayton, Ohio and her brother Grover Strawser of 
Biloxi, Mississippi.

After graduating school in Biloxi,
 Mississippi, in 1958, she was married and did extensive traveling to 
include living in Italy, Amsterdam, and Holland.  She returned to the 
United States in 1970.  In 1979, she was employed by K-mart Corporation 
as an Assistant Manager.  In her position her travels continued 
including homes in Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho and California.  After
 25 years with the company, Jackie retired and began working as Airline 
Assistant for United Airlines a job she truly loved and looked forward 
to interacting with the travelers.  In 2016 she fully retired and 
enjoyed relaxing watching old tv westerns and time with her dogs and 
cats.

After living in Kansas City, Missouri for many 
years, she briefly moved to Independence, Missouri and followed her 
daughter to Manhattan, Kansas in 2021.

She is survived 
by her brother, Robert Strawser of Dayton, Ohio, her three children: 
Robert (Lysa H.) Cline of Palmyra, PA, Steven (Lisa) Cline of 
Louisville, KY, and Carla (Warren K.) Craig-Koch of Manhattan; seven 
grandchildren: Ian Harns, Jadyn Craig, Xavier Cline, Arianna Koch, Avery
 Koch, Keiyara Koch and Zoey Koch; and two great-grandchildren: Balian 
Harns-Yan and Kira Cline; as well as her beloved cat Grey.

Allan Miller, 65, of Manhattan, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka.

Born August 2, 1957, in Yuma, Arizona, Allan was the son of Henry and Mary Lou Dishman Miller.

He had been married to Kathryn Brown and Leeane Craig, but for the last 20 years Allan shared his life with Susan Kent.

Allan loved working with his hands and was known for making knives.&nbsp; 
He was an avid fisherman and loved being outdoors working in his yard 
and tending to his Tulips.&nbsp; Allan also enjoyed shooting pool and 
dancing.

A construction worker for many years, Allan worked steel construction
 in New York and after moving to Kansas for Hi-Tech Construction and 
Ashley Furniture until his health forced his retirement.

Survivors include his Domestic Partner, Susan Kent of Manhattan; his 
mother, Mary Lou James of Wamego; a daughter, Crystal Wildenauer 
(Phillip) of Manhattan; a son, Casey Craig of Davenport, IA; two step 
children, Danielle Salcedo (Bobby) of Manhattan and Daniel Kent 
(Jessica) of Austin, TX; nine grandchildren, Journey Beamer, Justice 
Beamer, Jewel Williamson, Jada Smith, Misty Wildenauer, Dayved 
Wildenauer, Caleb Hood-Craig, Jaxson Hood-Craig and Brooklyn Craig; four
 step grandchildren, Gage Salcedo, Landon Salcedo, Victor Wildenauer and
 Alek Wildenauer; a brother, Danny Miller (Diane) of Arizona; and 
several nieces and nephews.

Allan was preceded in death by his father, Henry Miller; a sister, 
Adelia Brown Moehlman; and a brother, Kenneth “Maynard” Miller.

The family will meet with friends to celebrate the life of Allan at a
 visitation on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the 
Campanella &amp; Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego.

Cremation will be accorded following the visitation and inurnment will be at a later date in St. George Cemetery.

Kathryn Berniece Kahoe Compton 
1926 - 2023 
Born 11 January 1926 at her Aunt Verna’s home in North Platte, Nebraska,
 Kathryn Kahoe was the only child of George William Kahoe and Rose 
Mildred Musser Kahoe. 
Kathryn taught in rural schools for three years after graduation from High School at the age of 16. 
Starting in the summer of 1943, Kathryn took classes at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln for three summers. 
On February 25, 1946, Kathryn married Billy Perry Compton and Kathryn 
graduated from Northern State Teachers College in Aberdeen, South Dakota
 in 1948 with a BS Degree in Education. 
After living briefly in Stillwater, OK; Emporia, KS; Quincy, KS and 
Texas City, TX; Billy and Kathryn moved to Wichita, where they both 
worked for Boeing. 
Kathryn’s volunteer work was extensive and included eight years on the 
Haysville Board of Education, 20 years in PTA, 20 years as a Volunteer 
Income Tax preparer for the IRS, 20 years as a Docent at the 
Wichita-Sedgwick County Historical Museum, and work as an Election 
Supervisory Judge in Sedgwick County. 
Kathryn was a Registered Parliamentarian and a member of the Sunflower 
Unit National Association of Parliamentarians. She was a 57-year member 
of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, held many 
offices at the state and local level, and served as their National Vice 
President General for three years. She was also a 54-year member of the 
National Society Daughters of the American Colonists, where she also 
held many offices at the state and local level. She was a member of the 
American Association of University Women for 54 years and served as 
their local branch Treasurer for 10 years until her death. 
Kathryn was also a member of the Haysville Friends of the Library, 
Haysville Genealogy Group, Red Hats ‘N Kansas, and many other civic 
organizations. 
A life-long learner, Kathryn often attended Life Ventures classes at 
East Heights United Methodist Church, and Lifelong Learning Online 
classes through Wichita State University. She also loved to travel. She 
visited all 50 states, Europe, Canada, Mexico, and South Korea. 
Kathryn was preceded in death by her husband, and her parents. 
She is survived by her son, Carl, and his wife Suzie (Konkel) Compton of
 Derby, KS; grandchildren, Claire Compton and David Dawdy of Atlanta, 
GA; Dr. Caty Compton of Columbia, SC; Craig Compton of Wichita, KS; 
Colleen and her husband, David Thompson, of Alexandria, VA; Christian 
Compton of Manhattan, KS; and great-granddaughter, Clarke Kathryn 
Thompson. 
In lieu of funeral, a celebration of her life will be held at the 
Haysville Community Library on July 15, 2023 from 10am to Noon. Please 
consider honoring Kathryn by donating in her name to the Kansas DAR 
Scholarship, the Haysville Community Library, or one of the many other 
charitable organizations she was involved with. Kathryn made her final 
generous donation by bequeathing her body to the KU Medical Center’s 
Willed Body Program to help train young medical students to become

Geneva Elizabeth (Webber) Carpenter, age 96, <a></a>entered into rest at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal, KS on April 11, 2023.

Geneva
 was born October 23, 1926, Hugoton, KS to James Edwin and Reba Martha 
(Neathery) Webber.&nbsp; She became a member of United Methodist Church of 
Hugoton, Kansas in 1934.&nbsp; Her length of membership was amazing!&nbsp; The 
total years she belonged to that one church was 89 years. 

After she graduated from Hugoton High School in 1944, she attended Friends University in Wichita, KS.&nbsp; In 1948 she received her <a></a>Bachelor’s
 Degree in Health Science.&nbsp; She continued her education at St. Francis 
Hospital School of Medical Technology, Wichita, where she became a 
Registered Technologist (A.S.C.P.)&nbsp; She was first employed at Wichita 
Clinic in Wichita.

Geneva and James Walter Carpenter were united in marriage on September 4, 1949, at Epworth Methodist Church in Wichita. 

They
 moved to Hugoton in 1950.&nbsp; Geneva was employed at Stevens County 
Hospital.&nbsp; Later she worked at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses. 
She attended Barton County Community College and became a Licensed 
Rehabilitative Aide in 1981 and began working for Pioneer Manor, 
Hugoton, as a Physical Therapist.

Geneva
 and James were blessed with three daughters: Martha Thomas, Hugoton; 
Melanie McPhillips, Wichita; and Jodell Green, Enid, OK.

She
 enjoyed reading, writing poems and stories, riding her bicycle, working
 in her yard, camping and vacations at the family cabin in Colorado 
(where she loved trout fishing and hiking).&nbsp; Time spent with family and 
friends was very special to her.&nbsp; Geneva’s most favorite activity was 
dressing up for Halloween!&nbsp; Many years she was a witch with the most 
detailed costume imaginable.&nbsp; She was a KU Basketball Fan and watched 
every game on television!&nbsp; She knew all the players by name and all 
about them and Coach Bill Self, too!&nbsp;

 was preceded in death by her parents, James E. and Reba M. Webber; 
husband, James W. Carpenter; brothers, James D. and Robert L. Webber; 
grand-daughter, Marsha (McPhillips) Beard; son-in-law, Randy Green; and

Geneva Elizabeth (Webber) Carpenter

Marvin Elm, age 86, died at the Washington County Hospital on April 
12, 2023.&nbsp; He was born the youngest of four, and only boy to Andrew and 
Laura (Schwalm) Elm in Baldwin City, KS on July 26, 1936.&nbsp; 

Marvin 
graduated from Assaria High School in 1954. He married RaNay Schiffman 
on April 12, 1958, in Seattle, Washington. To this union two sons and a 
daughter were born, Kevin, Brian, and Kimberly.&nbsp; 

Marvin worked as the 
branch manager at the Clay Center office for Interstate Securities 
Company. He then worked for Conseco Finance in Topeka, KS retiring in 
2001. Marvin and RaNay spent their retirement years traveling the 
continental United States in their motor home eventually settling in San
 Benito, TX in 2015. They moved to Morganville in 2021.&nbsp; 

He is preceded 
in death by his parents; son, Brian; and his sisters, Mildred, Esther, 
and Lorraine.

 </figure>Marvin Elm, age 86, died at the Washington County Hospital on April 
12, 2023.&nbsp; He was born the youngest of four, and only boy to Andrew and 
Laura (Schwalm) Elm in Baldwin City, KS on July 26, 1936.&nbsp; Marvin 
graduated from Assaria High School in 1954. He married RaNay Schiffman 
on April 12, 1958, in Seattle, Washington. To this union two sons and a 
daughter were born, Kevin, Brian, and Kimberly.&nbsp; Marvin worked as the 
branch manager at the Clay Center office for Interstate Securities 
Company. He then worked for Conseco Finance in Topeka, KS retiring in 
2001. Marvin and RaNay spent their retirement years traveling the 
continental United States in their motor home eventually settling in San
 Benito, TX in 2015. They moved to Morganville in 2021.&nbsp; He is preceded 
in death by his parents; son, Brian; and his sisters, Mildred, Esther,

Patrick Andrew “Pat” Seeman, 83, passed away April 13, 2023, at Diversicare of Larned. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Pat was born November 23, 1939, the oldest of 6 children, to Junior 
and Maudie (Hill) Seeman in Larned, KS. He attended a country school 
north of Larned close to his family farm. Later, he lived with his 
grandparents while attending Larned High School, graduating in 1957.

Pat received track and football scholarships to Garden City Community
 College. Shortly before graduating, a new coach at Garden City 
Community College recruited him to play at Oklahoma State University. 
However, the National Guard called him to serve. He spent several months
 at Ft. Smith in Arkansas. He later attended 1 year at Fort Hays State 
University. He met and married Laurie Niedens, they were married for 
over 56 years, later divorcing.

Pat began his long banking career with BIC in Great Bend, KS. He was 
transferred around the state as he worked his way up. In 1976, he was 
hired by the First State Bank of Larned and was able to return to his 
home town as a loan officer, primarily focusing on ag lending.

He enjoyed over 20 years of refereeing football and basketball. Pat 
was an avid hunter and trapper, actually being appointed by the State of
 Kansas to trap nuisance animals. He spent time volunteering with 
Pheasants Forever.

After his retirement, Pat spent years attending Carr Auctions buying 
and collecting antiques, particularly enjoying art glass and pottery.

He is survived by: two children, Shellie Thill, husband David, of 
Bella Vista, AR, Michael Seeman and wife Leigh Anne of Larned, KS; four 
grandchildren and three step grandchildren: Emilie Thill, fiancé Brad 
Carlson, Kansas City, MO, Ashlie Nevola, husband Dylan, Kansas City, MO,
 Thomas Thill, wife Haley, Derby, KS, Katie Carlton, husband Brian, 
Larned, KS, Tyler Stelter, Orlando, FL, Megan Stelter, Salina, KS, and 
Jack Stelter, Manhattan, KS; two great grandchildren, Emmett and Jocee 
Carlton, Larned, KS; two brothers, Steven (Michelle) Seeman, Larned, KS,
 Mark (Becky) Seeman, Salina, KS; two sisters Jody (Don) Crosby, Diamond
 Head, MS, Susan (Vance) Smith, Larned, KS.

The family would like to thank cousins George and Connie Seeman who 
provided hours of support and friendship, as well as Pawnee Valley 
Community Hospital and Diversicare of Larned for the health care he 
received.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, John Duncan and his wife Katie.

Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 17, 2023, at 
Beckwith Mortuary with Pastor David Spare presiding. Inurnment will be

Walter “Wally” Lee Gruber, 76, of Hope, KS passed away at home on 
April 11, 2023. He was born on January 1, 1947, to Martin and Katie 
(Katherine Krause) Gruber, in Hope, KS. 

Wally made his life in Hope, where he attended school and graduated from Hope High in 1965.&nbsp; 

After
 high school, he spent several years in the Army Reserves, used his 
skills as a carpenter to build numerous homes in the area and assist 
with 4-H projects, and was a long-time dedicated farmer, growing crops 
and raising cattle.&nbsp; Wally was also a member of the Kansas Young Farmers
 Association and enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger years, 
occasionally taking out-of-state fishing adventures.&nbsp; In his later years,&nbsp; he was able to lend his many skills in helping to complete renovations 
on the building that now houses the Hope Historical Museum. 

He is
 survived by his brother Rano Gruber of Hope, sister-in-law Vicki Gruber
 of Hope; nieces and nephew Kelli (Ryan) Almes of Manhattan and Kai 
Gruber of Manhattan; greatnieces and nephews Kendon and Della Almes and 
Ethan, Aiden, and Abigail Gruber.&nbsp; 

He is preceded in death by his parents Martin and Katie, brother John Gruber, and nephew Chris Gruber.&nbsp; 

Wally’s
 family and friends will gather on Monday April 17, 2023, at 11 a.m. at 
St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, Lyons Creek, for a graveside service. A 
celebration of life will be held at the First National Bank Annex and 
Community Center following the graveside service on Monday.

William Henry Altman Sr., 49, of Manhattan, formerly of Alabama, 
passed away Sunday, April 9th, at Ascension Via Christi Health Hospital.

 was born in Norfolk, Virginia on February 19, 1974, the son of Linda 
(Nance) Altman, of Virginia and the late James Leonard Altman.  He was 
the husband of Gloria Jean  Eichberger.

 and Ruth (Miller) Carpenter, her sisters Zelda Ann Zabel and Carol June
 Carpenter.&nbsp; She left behind sisters, Margaret Dutcher, Dorie Hammond, 
and Bobbie Blaskey, and one brother, Larry Carpenter.&nbsp; Grandchildren 
left behind were Austin Anschutz, Brandon Loader, Brett Loader, Keaton 
Anschutz, Charlotte Anschutz, Cooper Schwartz, and Layton Schwartz.&nbsp; One
 Great Grandchild left behind was Carter Anschutz, and several nieces 
and nephews.

My wife and their mother, Elberta, was a loving, kind, and giving 
person who always put the needs of her family before her own.&nbsp; She was a
 strong woman known for her faith and instilled the importance of 
family, hard work, and doing what is right. She faced every challenge in
 her life with courage and dignity and was a source of inspiration to us
 all.

You will always be in our hearts, and we will never forget you. We love you so much. Rest in peace.

The memorial service will be held at Concordia Lutheran Church on 
April 22, 2023, at 9:00 a.m. with a reception following the service to 
be held at the BCDI Building in Bushton, KS.
