Carol Joyce (Milligan) Pickerel, 83, Lawrence died Friday, October 22nd at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Lawrence, Kansas.

Carol was born March 28, 1938 on her family’s farm near Clay Center, Kansas to Glen and Geraldine Milligan. She was a graduate of the Clay Center High School Class of 1956. She devoted several years to caring for her children at home, and then later worked for many years in title companies in both Lawrence and Clay Center. She was also active in her community and church, as well as spending time with her grandchildren.

Carol married Jack Pickerel in 1956 in Clay Center, Kansas, and they remained faithful to each other for 60 years until Jack’s passing in 2016. Together they had three children: Scott in 1958, Kathy in 1959, and Mark in 1968.

Carol is survived by her brother Randy and his wife Zita; her oldest son Scott and his wife Betty; her youngest son Mark and his wife Linda, along with their two sons Matthew and Alex; her deceased daughter Kathy’s husband Russell; her granddaughter Lindsay and her husband Nathan, along with their children Landon and Piper; and her grandson Spencer and his wife Katie, along with their children Luke and Emma.

Visitation for Carol will be held on Friday, October 29th at 12:30 p.m. at Neill-Schwensen-Rook funeral home in Clay Center, Kansas.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

She will be interred at Greenwood Cemetery in Clay Center.

Anna Mae “Binkie” Miller was born January 17, 1941 in Philadelphia, PA. She was the daughter of George M. and Anna May (Beck) Gastiger. She was a longtime Abilene and Solomon area resident. She passed away Monday, October 25, 2021 at the Salina Regional Health Center in Salina at the age of 80. On February 14, 1959, Binkie was united in marriage to James “Jim” Mack Miller. Anna Mae was a homemaker and a member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Abilene. She enjoyed embroidering and volunteered at the Abilene Food Bank. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her greatest love was her faithful companion Grassy (her dog). What made her the most proud was seeing her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren grow up. Spending every minute with them made her life worthwhile. She treasured her friends and her church family. She enjoyed sitting on the front porch reading and embroidering. She loved her country life. Her door was always open to friends and family. Anna Mae is survived by her children Kathy Anne (Michael) McCulley of Mesa, Arizona, Tammy Anne Billinger of Hays, Glenn Michael (Tanna) Miller of Lyons, Mary Anne Miller resides overseas, eleven grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Jim on August 12, 1997, her son James “Jason” Miller in 1992, and her parents. Pamela Jean Kury (Tighe), age 65, of Abilene, passed away at Salina Regional Health Center on Friday October 15th, 2021. Pam was born in Nürnberg, Germany on June 20, 1956 to Paul and Joyce (Patterson) Tighe. Pamela came from humble beginnings which blessed her with a spirit of appreciation and gratitude for the littlest things. Pamela and her siblings grew up in a military home and lived in Virginia, Nebraska, and finally ending up in Kansas. While in Kansas, Pamela learned how to cook and upkeep the house where she would blast oldies from the 50’s and 60’s and cleaning, dance, and help take care of her siblings. She loved listening to Elvis, Beatles, Beegees, and so many more. Pamela had a love for finding the sunshine in everything, even the dark times, she always used to tell us kids that our sufferings are our blessings.

In 1972 she met Gordon Kury and they got married and had moved to Custer, South Dakota. They welcomed their three children; Chris, Alicia, and Becca. She spent her years in South Dakota teaching her children to reach for their goals while she was their biggest supporter. She would be at every sporting event cheering them on, cooking homemade meals, and holidays were where she shined. She loved making treats and meals for holidays and never forgot the people that were unable to be with us in person. She would gather her kids and they would bake her famous treats; mud, cinnamon rolls, peanut butter balls, sugar cookies, and much more and make special cards and send them out to show her love for all of her family. To this day no other cinnamon rolls compare. Through the miles apart from friends and family she never missed a holiday, anniversary, or birthday. She had a card for everything and enjoyed having her grandchildren fill them out and send them to whomever they were missing, she always kept her word and mailed them out.

In 2004, Pam returned to Abilene Kansas and lived out her days enjoying time with her grandchildren. Everyone she met would be welcomed into her life and she had so many people that adored her and her company. She loved being a mother to all and making sure people knew that they were loved and wanted. She had a peacemaker’s heart and was always able to see the good in someone. No matter how difficult life would get, she would always point out something she was grateful for, even during the last few months of her life when she was at her weakest. Pamela’s love for the Black Hills and Kansas tied into her love for Wizard of Oz. She was passionate about coming from the state where the story is from and loved being able to call the state that the author was from home as well. She finally got to follow her yellow brick road home. Pamela will be forever missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her son, Christopher (Cassie) Kury of Oakdale, Ct, her daughters, Alicia Kury of Slater, Mo and Becca Kury of Colorado Springs, Co. Her Brother Tim Tighe of Newton, Ks, and her sisters Becky Arenas of Abilene, Ks and Debbie Tighe Stegemiller of Rising Sun, IN. She was known as “Grandmama” to her beloved Samuel Kury, Sawyer Kury, Reighlei Galvan, Auryelah Galvan, Charalei Galvan, Taiellah Galvan, Quetzalcoatl Aviles Kury. She had many other people from her life that loved her as a second mother. Pamela is preceded in death by her parents, Paul Tighe Jr and Joyce Patterson. Three Brothers, Baby David Tighe, Buddy Joe Eschliman, Mark Tighe. Memorial services will be held 1:00 p.m., Sunday, November 7th, 2021, at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Enterprise, Ks. Charlotte Welfringer, age 87, of Manhattan, died October 17, 2021 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan. She was born on October 22, 1933 in Centralia, Kansas, the daughter of Francis and Goldia (Jeffrey) Dalsing. She grew up in the Axtell area, and graduated from Axtell High School with the class of 1951. Charlotte worked for many years for Farm Bureau in Manhattan. She enjoyed going to garage sales and yard sales. She traveled many places over the years in her RV with her siblings and created many memories. Charlotte also loved to crochet and baking food for family and friends. She always cherished spending as much time as she could with her family and her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Welfringer in 2008, also her parents and her five brothers and five sisters. Charlotte is survived by her children, Mary Welfringer, of St. George, Robert Welfringer (Connie), of Independence, Missouri, Richard Welfringer (Rosanne), of Parksville, New York, and Rodney Welfringer (Misti), of Manhattan; also, her seven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Mary Louise (Beat) Brockman, age 86, of Manhattan, died October 22, 2021, at Ascension Via Christi Village in Manhattan. She was born September 28, 1935, in Kingman, Kansas, to Albert John “AJ” and Mary Eileen (Evans) Beat. The family moved to Wichita, KS, where she graduated from Cathedral High School. Her first job after high school was in the bookkeeping department of a local bank for one year. She was employed with US District Court Clerk’s Office in Wichita for over nine years where she took a leave to assist with her father’s care. Later she returned to US District Court in Kansas City, KS, working for Judge Miller for over six years. She was married to Carl William Brockman on July 25, 1975. They lived most of their lives together in Manhattan, KS. Carl preceded her in death on March 8, 2021. Mary was also preceded in death by her parents; siblings: Virginia L. Beat (Richard) Balbierz, Albert E. “Bud” Beat, Roy H. Beat, and Jeanne A. Beat (Ervin) Miller; and one niece Sherry Balbierz King. Lois Anne Morrison, age 76, of Manhattan, Kansas, died October 21, 2021 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan. Lois Anne Wiley Morrison was born on September 14, 1945 in Los Angeles, California. The daughter of the Rev. Lester V. (Vernon) Wiley and Barbara Anne Horton Wiley. As a minister’s family, they moved regularly and enjoyed it, looking at it as an adventure. She attended a private kindergarten in Ada, Oklahoma. Her favorite project was sewing the blanket stitch around a yellow stuffed oilcloth bunny (perhaps the beginning of her love of sewing). After kindergarten, the family moved to California. She attended 1st-3rd grade in Placerville, 4th grade at Arcadia School in Sacramento, 5th and 6th grade at Longfellow Elementary School in Pasadena, and Will Rogers Junior High in Long Beach for 7th and 8th grade. The family then moved to Kansas and she attended Manhattan Junior High for 9th grade and Clay County Community High School for 10th-12th grade. In the summer of 1963, she received a State of Kansas Scholarship to attend Kansas State University where she lived in West Hall her freshman and sophomore years and in the Alpha Xi Delta sorority house her junior year. From 1966 to 1969, she attended Jane C. Stormont School of Nursing in Topeka, Kansas where she graduated as a Registered Nurse. She met James William Morrison in zoology class at Kansas State University in 1964. They married on June 7, 1968 in Wichita, Kansas. They resided in Topeka until 1971 when they moved to Manhattan, Kansas. Upon moving to Manhattan, Lois joined First Presbyterian Church where she served as a Deacon and food pantry volunteer. She worked in the Recovery Room at St. Mary’s Hospital until she retired in 1983. She then worked part-time as a teaching assistant at Trinity Preschool for six years. Over the years she has been involved in a number of organizations: Alpha Xi Delta Alumnae (President, Secretary, Vice President), Prairie Roots Garden Club (Charter Member), Chapter GU of P.E.O. (Chaplain, Recording Secretary), Konza Prairie Quilters Guild (Board Member-At-Large, President), Sunshine Family and Community Education (President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer), and Riley County Hemerocallis Society (Daylilies). She taught clothing construction, plant science, and yeast breads through 4-H. She loved to garden and became a Riley County Master Gardner in 1994 with over 25 years of service. She enjoyed playing bridge, pinochle, and dominos; sewing; quilting; reading mysteries; arranging flowers; and, traveling. She loved spending time with her family and especially enjoyed their family adventures to Chile, England, Scotland, France and celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary with the entire family in Alaska. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, James William Morrison; three children, Julie Anne Morrison Dee, David William Morrison (Arin), Emily Anne Morrison; four grandchildren: Margaret Elizabeth Dee, Rebecca Anne Dee, Brenna Raye Morrison, Grant William Morrison, as well as a sister, Shirley Wiley Wright (Ottawa, KS) and her two daughters and sister-in-law, Nancy Raye Morrison Reedy (David) and their two sons. The family will greet friends during a visitation from 6:30 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday October 27, 2021 at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home in Manhattan. She enjoyed playing bridge, pinochle, and dominos; sewing; quilting; reading mysteries; arranging flowers; and, traveling. She loved spending time with her family and especially enjoyed their family adventures to Chile, England, Scotland, France and celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary with the entire family in Alaska. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, James William Morrison; three children, Julie Anne Morrison Dee, David William Morrison (Arin), Emily Anne Morrison; four grandchildren: Margaret Elizabeth Dee, Rebecca Anne Dee, Brenna Raye Morrison, Grant William Morrison, as well as a sister, Shirley Wiley Wright (Ottawa, KS) and her two daughters and sister-in-law, Nancy Raye Morrison Reedy (David) and their two sons. The family will greet friends during a visitation from 6:30 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday October 27, 2021 at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home in Manhattan. Robert Winston Smith, 81, of Manhattan, passed away, Tuesday, September 8th, at the Good Shepherd Hospice House. Robert was born in Foxworth, Mississippi on July 11, 1939, the son of the late Mabel Elaine (Scarborough) and Robert Lamar Smith. He proudly served in the U.S. Army. He was the husband of Pamela Dee Smith and they were married on July 22, 1978 at the All Faiths Chapel on the campus of Kansas State University. He worked as the Superintendent at USD 313 in Buhler, Kansas. Robert also taught and was in the administration at the Abilene, Hutchinson, Manhattan School Districts. He also worked with the KSU Housing &amp; Dining. VFW, American legion, was a former Manhattan City Commissioner, he also was a very active member at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. She was baptized and confirmed at the Zion Lutheran North Branch Church, attended Boone County District 52 Country School through 9th grade, graduating from Albion High School in 1950. She married Max A. Porter on May 20, 1951, in Albion, NE, and moved to Phillipsburg, KS in 1953. To this union, three children were born. They divorced in 1978. She married W. Max Howard on October 30, 1982, in Salina, KS. They lived in Larned, KS where they owned and operated the Best Western Townsman Inn. He preceded her in death on April 17, 2013. Alice was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church, Manhattan, KS, and a former member of Lutheran Churches in Phillipsburg, KS, Salina, KS, and Albert, KS. Norma Jean Storms, 92, passed away on Friday (October 22, 2021) at the Good Samaritan Society–Valley Vista, in Wamego, Kansas.

&nbsp;Norma was born to Fred and Lillian Daughters on April 11, 1929 at the Bull Creek Township&nbsp;homestead of her paternal grandparents, Frank and Katherine Daughters. Norma was the first of eight children.

Norma attended grade school with her siblings at Sunnyside School. She attended Winner High&nbsp;School, graduating in 1946. After graduation she worked at JC Penney for 5 years as a&nbsp;cashier/bookkeeper then as a bookkeeper at the Winner Livestock Auction Company.

As a career girl, Norma enjoying spending time with her many friends and family, traveling and&nbsp;even hiking the buttes west of Winner! Her vast wardrobe was the envy of her younger sisters&nbsp;who often ‘borrowed’ favorite outfits.

On August 28, 1953, Norma married James Storms from Keyapaha, SD after his return to the&nbsp;U.S. from his Korean War deployment. They were married in Clearfield, SD then lived in&nbsp;Tampa, FL during the remainder of Jim’s enlistment in the US Air Force.

Throughout their marriage, Norma was always a partner in the true sense of the word. Through&nbsp;Jim’s law enforcement career, she was an active member of the Tripp County Republicans,&nbsp;working for his re-election every 2 years. From the mid-1970’s on, she was a partner in&nbsp;businesses she and Jim owned. In addition to this, community involvement played a large part of&nbsp;her life. She was a life-time member of the VFW Auxiliary holding several post positions&nbsp;including the South Dakota District President. She was an active member of the Immaculate&nbsp;Conception Parish for over 60 years. She was a charter member of the local chapter of Epsilon&nbsp;Sigma Alpha, a member of the Catholic Daughters, Avenue of Flags, a volunteer at the Tripp&nbsp;County Historical Society and in the Winner Public Schools.

In her retirement Norma continued her community involvement while playing bridge with her&nbsp;friends, entertaining, baking and being a Grandma.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James, her son, William, brothers&nbsp;Donald, Roger and Russell Daughters, and sisters Avis Bilyeu and Marilyn Laycock.

She is survived by her children Gail Dunford (Lynn) of Wamego, KS and Susan Storms (Bob) of Eden Prairie, MN; a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Storms of Winner, SD; grandchildren Dr. Gretchen Dunford of Colby, KS, Claire Shaver (Daniel) of Kansas City, MO, Kaelob Storms and Jacob Storms of Flandreau, SD; a great-grandson, James Shaver; a sister, Kathryn Wanek of Green Valley, AZ; a brother, David Daughters (Deborah) of Rapid City, SD; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Cremation arrangements are in the care of Campanella &amp; Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego, Kansas.

Memorial Mass will be held Tuesday morning (November 9, 2021) at 10:00 a.m.&nbsp; at the Immaculate Conception Church in Winner, South Dakota.&nbsp; Inurnment will be in the Black Hills National Cemetery.

Mary Teresa Burnham, age 81, of Junction City, died October 23, 2021, at the Good Shephard Hospice House in Manhattan. Mary was born May 3, 1940, in Minot, North Dakota, the daughter of Raymond and Margeurite (nee Schaefer) Frank. She graduated from Minot State Teacher’s College where she studied to be a nurse. After graduation, she joined the Army. During her career in the military, Mary was first stationed at Ft. Sam Houston where she spent time on the range learning to shoot and practiced going through the gas chamber. She was then sent to Ft. Hood where she cared for patients in the burn ward. Her next assignment was Tripler Army Medical Center in Hawaii where she was commissioned as a Captain. There she cared for soldiers returning from Vietnam. At the end of the third year in Hawaii, she received orders for Ft. Riley, KS. Mary was disappointed and wrote several letters requesting to go to Vietnam. She was told that Ft. Riley needed a nurse with her MOS and that her orders would not change. A few months into her assignment at Fort Riley, she met her future husband and love of her life, Tom Burnham, on a blind date. Mary was on the list to make Major followed by orders to a new assignment. Mary decided to resign her commission so they could make their life and raise a family in Junction City. After leaving the military, Mary worked for the JC-Geary County Health Department for two years doing home health and establishing prenatal classes. She then worked for USD 475 as a school nurse for 32 years. She worked at several schools in Ft. Riley and Junction City and retired as the school nurse at the High School. She loved the students she took care of and kept in touch with many after their graduation. After retirement, Mary enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling and spoiling her 2 rescue dogs, Oscar and Jazz. Mary is survived by Tom (Carl) Burnham, her husband of 54 years. Mary is also survived by her three daughters: Sarah Burnham and David Pulliam, of Olathe, KS, Amy Marsh of Helena, Montana and Laura and Kyle Bodenstab of Lenexa, KS; her brothers James (Tammy) Frank of Fargo, ND and Paul (Andrea) Frank of Bismark, ND; and 4 grandchildren. Mary touched countless people during her time in the military and in public health. Her kind and generous spirit will be missed every day. Cremation will take place. Shirley worked at the Fort Riley PX for over thirty years. Shirley had a zest for life. She was very involved with the Junction City Country Club where she socialized and was an avid golfer. She was proud for achieving two holes in one. She enjoyed playing bridge and Mahjong with her friends. Exercise was important for Shirley having spent many early mornings at the YMCA swimming. In her later years, she enjoyed being surrounded by Kailey, Kamdyn and the Kamm Family. Church was a very important part of Shirley's life. She was a parishioner of St. Xavier Catholic Church and a member of the Living Waters Group. Shirley was loved and cared for at the end of her life by the Kamm and Mann Families but she will be missed by many friends and family. She was proud for achieving two holes in one. She enjoyed playing bridge and Mahjong with her friends. Exercise was important for Shirley having spent many early mornings at the YMCA swimming. In her later years, she enjoyed being surrounded by Kailey, Kamdyn and the Kamm Family. Church was a very important part of Shirley's life. She was a parishioner of St. Xavier Catholic Church and a member of the Living Waters Group. Shirley was loved and cared for at the end of her life by the Kamm and Mann Families but she will be missed by many friends and family. She was preceded in death by her husband Bill Cutsinger.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Carol Joyce (Milligan) Pickerel, 83, Lawrence died Saturday, October 22nd at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Lawrence, Kansas.Carol was born March 28, 1938 on her family’s farm near Clay Center, Kansas to Glen and Geraldine Milligan. She was a graduate of the Clay Center High School Class of 1956. She devoted several years to caring for her children at home, and then later worked for many years in title companies in both Lawrence and Clay Center. She was also active in her community and church, as well as spending time with her grandchildren.Carol married Jack Pickerel in 1956 in Clay Center, Kansas, and they remained faithful to each other for 60 years until Jack’s passing in 2016. &nbsp;Lois Anne Morrison, age 76, of Manhattan, Kansas, died October 21, 2021 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan. Lois Anne Wiley Morrison was born on September 14, 1945 in Los Angeles, California. The daughter of the Rev. Lester V. (Vernon) Wiley and Barbara Anne Horton Wiley. As a minister’s family, they moved regularly and enjoyed it, looking at it as an adventure. She attended a private kindergarten in Ada, Oklahoma. Her favorite project was sewing the blanket stitch around a yellow stuffed oilcloth bunny (perhaps the beginning of her love of sewing). After kindergarten, the family moved to California. She attended 1st-3rd grade in Placerville, 4th grade at Arcadia School in Sacramento, 5th and 6th grade at Longfellow Elementary School in Pasadena, and Will Rogers Junior High in Long Beach for 7th and 8th grade. The family then moved to Kansas and she attended Manhattan Junior High for 9th grade and Clay County Community High School for 10th-12th grade. In the summer of 1963, she received a State of Kansas Scholarship to attend Kansas State University where she lived in West Hall her freshman and sophomore years and in the Alpha Xi Delta sorority house her junior year. From 1966 to 1969, she attended Jane C. Stormont School of Nursing in Topeka, Kansas where she graduated as a Registered Nurse. She met James William Morrison in zoology class at Kansas State University in 1964. They married on June 7, 1968 in Wichita, Kansas. They resided in Topeka until 1971 when they moved to Manhattan, Kansas. Upon moving to Manhattan, Lois joined First Presbyterian Church where she served as a Deacon and food pantry volunteer. She worked in the Recovery Room at St. Mary’s Hospital until she retired in 1983. She then worked part-time as a teaching assistant at Trinity Preschool for six years. Over the years she has been involved in a number of organizations: Alpha Xi Delta Alumnae (President, Secretary, Vice President), Prairie Roots Garden Club (Charter Member), Chapter GU of P.E.O. (Chaplain, Recording Secretary), Konza Prairie Quilters Guild (Board Member-At-Large, President), Sunshine Family and Community Education (President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer), and Riley County Hemerocallis Society (Daylilies). She taught clothing construction, plant science, and yeast breads through 4-H. She loved to garden and became a Riley County Master Gardner in 1994 with over 25 years of service. She enjoyed playing bridge, pinochle, and dominos; sewing; quilting; reading mysteries; arranging flowers; and, traveling. She loved spending time with her family and especially enjoyed their family adventures to Chile, England, Scotland, France and celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary with the entire family in Alaska. George Eldon Shupe, age 74, of Manhattan, died October 16, 2021, at the Good Shepherd Homecare &amp; Hospice House in Manhattan. He was born April 5, 1947, in Manhattan, the son of John W. and Elizabeth M. (Mendenhall) Shupe. George attended local schools and graduated from Manhattan High School in 1965. He attended Kansas State University and graduated in 1969, and then later earned his MBA from San Diego State University in 1974. Mr. Shupe served in the United States Air Force from September 1969 to April 1972 as 1st. LT. He was an Accounting/Business Instructor at Cuyamaca Community College in El Cajon, CA. George attended Grace Baptist Church, enjoyed stamp collecting, playing golf in his younger years and was a student of Biblical Prophecy. Hays State University with a Bachelor of Science. Lewis also served and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army. Byron Duane Larson, 74, of Manhattan, Kansas, died Tuesday, October 19, 2021, at his home. He was a long-time resident of the area.

Duane was born on August 3, 1947, in Westmoreland, Kansas, the son of Clarence and Mildred (Samuelson) Larson. He attended local grade schools and graduated in 1965 from Randolph High School.

Duane worked his entire adult life as a backhoe operator. He owned and operated L and L Trenching. He loved his work and was known to be a workaholic. Duane was a steer wrestler who always enjoyed a good horse. He was a member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA), and the United Rodeo Association.

Duane married Susie Rose on April 3, 1971, in Lawrence, Kansas. She survives at their home.

Duane is also survived by his sons; Heath Larson and Chancey Larson (Katie), both of Manhattan; his granddaughter, Seeley Larson; his siblings, Colleen Roblyer, Manhattan, and Cleone Edwards, Stafford, Texas. Duane was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Warren Roblyer.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 27, 2021, at Campanella &amp; Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego. Reverend Jol Klein will be officiating. Benfadean “Dee Dee” Craig, 71, passed away October 20, 2021, at Stoneybrook Health and Rehab in Manhattan. She was born June 2, 1950, in El Dorado, Arkansas, to Henry Jr. and Anna Mae (Williams) Cobbs.&nbsp; Dee Dee was a member of Refreshed and Redeemed Church of the Nazarene in Ellsworth, Ks.

Dee Dee was a social butterfly, the life of the party and enjoyed drinking with her friends.

She was employed with Central National Bank in Junction City, KS for a number of years where she met the love of her life, John Rucker. John and Elaine were married May 5, 1957 when they soon had three beautiful daughters. Elaine was a lifelong resident of Junction City and involved with many organizations, Gamma Phi Chapter of ESA, Pilot Club, Garden Club, Rotary Club, Ladies Shrine Club and a member of the United Methodist Church. Elaine is survived by her husband John of the home, daughters, Linda (Dallas) Howerton, Elizabeth McInteer all of Junction City and Lori (Ken) Temple of Topeka, KS; four grandchildren, Christina Register of Concord, NC, Eric McInteer of Fort Collins, CO, Brian Temple and Adam Temple both of Topeka, KS and two great-grandchildren, Michael Rodgers of Junction City, KS and Kenzie Register of Concord, NC. She was a proud member of the Junction City Elks Lodge, Eagles Lodge, American Legion and the VFW. Rosie was an exceptionally hard worker and loved serving people whether it be as a bartender, caregiver or friend. She was a fun-loving, free spirit that never met a stranger; always generous and eager to help. Rosie enjoyed traveling and lived many places from coast to coast, but the last 25 years at Junction City, Kansas was where she put down roots. Carol Frances Haynes, 79,&nbsp; passed away on October 16, 2021, at Valley Senior Life Center. Cremation has taken place.&nbsp;&nbsp;No memorial services are planned. Carol was born in Chanute, Kansas, the daughter of Ruth and Byrle Haynes. She attended Chanute schools, Alcott Elementary, Royster Jr. High, and Chanute High School. She moved to California, where she served as office manager for a salvage company, then spent many years as office manager for EMPO International, a shoe import company in Santa Maria, California before retiring. Carol moved to Junction City, Kansas, to be near family in March of 2020. Carol was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Lois and Margaret, her long time companion Roger Selken, and her furry friend Uno. Survivors are brothers Ron Haynes (Donna) and Don Haynes (Helen), a sister Emma Haynes Manion (Vernon), all of Junction City, Kansas, nieces and nephews, and her beloved furry friend Binkie. Carol enjoyed photography and time with Binkie and Uno. Carol and Roger were active members of the Santa Maria, California Lions Club, serving in many capacities. Our "Christmas Carol" will be missed.

Howard Stanley Smith, 68, of Junction City, KS passed away on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at Geary Community Hospital. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, October 28, 2021 at Johnson Funeral Home. A visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, October 27, 2021 at the Johnson Funeral Home. Howard was born April 11, 1953 in Junction City, KS the son of Silas and Willie Mae (Jones) Smith, Jr. Howard attended schools in Junction City. Howard owned and operated his mechanic shop in Junction City. He enjoyed automobiles, music and watching western shows. He was known for being able to "fix" anything. He built go carts and race cars from scratch. He married Lynn Thorpe. They were later divorced. Survivors include three sons, Howard Smith, Jr. and Harrison Smith both of Beaver Dam and Simon Smith of Watertown, WI; one daughter, Hope Smith of Appleton, WI; four brothers, Harold Smith of Tulsa, OK, Johnny and Richard Smith of Junction City, KS and Michael Smith and his wife Zanetta of Manhattan, KS; three sisters, Ardette Phillips of Victorville, CA, Linda Murphy and her husband Willie and Debra Bevier both of Junction City, KS; five grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces and other relatives. Nola Loree Bullimore, 82, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on the afternoon of October 16, 2021 at the Clay County Medical Center in Clay Center, Kansas.



Nola was born at the family home on April 29, 1939, in Hollenberg, Kansas to Joseph William and Hazel Elizabeth (Taylor) Jedlicka. She was the youngest of three siblings. When she was two years of age, her family moved to Washington, Kansas, where she grew up and graduated from Washington High School in May of 1957.

Nola married the love of her life, Lewis (Bud) Bullimore on May 26, 1957. The couple was blessed with a very full and adventurous life together. They began their lives together in Topeka, Kansas where they started their family -- three daughters-Elizabeth (Beth), Donna and Teresa. 

In 1969, the family moved to Washington, Kansas. Nola worked as a bookkeeper for the Whitcomb Ford Motor Company. Nola and Bud opened their home to foster children in 1977. In 1979, they began their ministry with Cookson Hills Children’s Home as house parents in Syracuse, Kansas Unit and later moving to the Kansas, Oklahoma unit serving as cooks for a large dining hall and eventually became the house parents for the unwed mother’s home.

Their next journey led them to Dodge City, Kansas in 1986 where Nola perfected her sewing skills at a custom dress shop making beautiful wedding gowns. The couple returned to Washington in 1987 where Nola established her own custom dress shop. A few years later, they purchased the local dry cleaners and incorporated the dress shop. They sold the business in 1994 to begin their dream of traveling. Over the next seven years, they worked as camp hosts in Texas and Arizona and as volunteer staff for a state historical park in Fort McKavett, Texas.

Because of Nola’s health issues, they returned to Washington, Kansas in 2001. In July of 2003, Nola was given the gift of a new liver that was donated by a gracious family. The couple lived in the area for the next 16 years making new friends and spending time with their growing family. 

In 2019 due to her declining health, the couple moved to the Linn Community Nursing Home in Linn, Kansas, where she resided until her death.

Nola was a talented artisan creating beautiful quilts, wedding gowns, needlework, and many craft items.  She loved sewing, baking, collecting chicken figurines, and Chihuahuas.  Nola was blessed with a quick sense of humor that always made her grandchildren laugh.

 

Preceding her in death were her parents and brother, Marvin Jedlicka.

Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Lewis (Bud), Linn; daughters, Beth (Mike) Woerner, Washington, Donna (Mike) Taphorn, Clay Center, and Teresa Hicks, Clay Center; sister, Donna (Don) Welch, Dragoon, AZ; sister-in-laws, Susan (Larry) Graham, Washington, and Sue Jedlicka, Beatrice, NE; 11 grandchildren; and 21 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Nola’s life will be held at a later date. Burial will take place at the Washington City Cemetery.

Kennard “Kenny” Burton Baker, SR went to be with the Lord on October 18, 2021. He was 86 years old and was born on June 22, 1935 in Powhatan Point, Ohio. He is survived by his children Andrew (Robin) Baker, Cindy Adams, Kennard Baker JR, Elizabeth (Becky) Helmsing, Sherry McMasters, and Kimberly McMasters, 12 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 2 brothers Harry Baker, and Floyd Baker, sister Gladys Harlan, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years Gladys (Whittington) Baker, his son Halbert “Pogo” Baker, his parents Lee and Nancy (Doty) Baker, brothers Halbert “Fuzz” Baker, Harold “Bud” Baker, Francis “Bo” Baker, Aaron “Tim” Baker, sisters Della Hranko, Mabel “Cookie” Brunner, Velma Gallaher, Naomi “Oma” Mihalek, and Wanda Mihalek, grandsons Shane Baker, and Timothy Harrigan, great grandson Stone Harrigan.
