Douglas (Doug) Duane Londene, at the age of 71 of Chapman, Kansas passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 due to a tragic farm accident.

Doug was born October 1st, 1952 to Duane and Lola (Carpenter) Londene of Chapman, Kansas.He attended Woodbine grade school and graduated from Chapman High School in 1970.In his younger years, Doug enjoyed playing baseball and was a 4-H member of the Woodbine Jolly Jayhawkers. His career was working for BNSF railroad for 36 years achieving the job as Road Master. He retired in 2014 and dedicated his days to full-time farming until his death.Doug will be remembered for many things but, especially his laughter, his tight bear hugs and the joy of conversation.

Survivors include his wife, Birgitte, two daughters, Amy (Kevin) Wade, Angela Londene, one son, Ryan (Danielle) Londene and one step-son Michael Mager. Other survivors include one sister, Diane Londene, seven grandchildren, one great grandchild and two step grandchildren,two nieces, two nephews, one great niece and three great nephews, two great-great nieces, and one great-great nephew. He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Cindy Jo Wilson.

The family will receive friends from 5:30-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 9th at the Londeen-Overlease Funeral Chapel, 206 West 5th, Chapman, Kansas. The funeral service will be Friday, May 10th at 1:00 p.m.&nbsp; at the Chapman Naz Church, 317 West 5th St. Burial following at Abilene Cemetery.

Homer Gene Smith, age 62, of Manhattan, died April 26, 2024, at the Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan.

He was born June 20, 1961, in Manhattan, the son of William L. “Billy” and Margarete (Ruhmann) Smith.

He worked for the City of Manhattan in the Forestry Department for 17 years, worked construction in Alaska for 6 months prior to returning to Manhattan and worked for BHS Construction for 23 years as their Shop Foreman.

Homer enjoyed riding dune buggies, wood working, was in a bowling league for many years and participated in Nationals in Reno, NV, working with his hands and helping others. Most of all he loved his family and spending time with them.

On May 24, 1991, in Manhattan, he was married to Debrah Chapman. Debrah survives of the home. Additional survivors include four children: Jesse Ray Smith of Hutchinson, KS, Amy Haselhorst (Nate) of Wamego, Kristy Stadler (Nate Severson) of St. George, and Joseph Stadler of Scottsdale, AZ; seven grandchildren: Jasmine, Logan, Hadley, Alyssa, Sophia, Emlyn and Maverik; six siblings: Monica Houston (Billy) of Hutchinson, George Smith of Manhattan, John Smith (Connie) of Manhattan, Terry Smith (Debbie) of Manhattan, Rosalie Lyttle (Jon) of Marshall, IL, and Denis Smith of Manhattan; and a large and loving extended family.

Homer was preceded in death by his parents, one brother William, and one niece Amanda Mesa.

Cremation is planned with memorial services to be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 8th, in the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel with Chuck Asbury officiating.

Janett had a strong work ethic. She took pride with her work and worked long and hard hours with all of her jobs. Janett enjoyed cooking and was known for her culinary skills. Her family was important to her. She enjoyed teaching good manners to her children, nephews and nieces. Decorating for the holidays and tending to her yard work was done with pride and precision.

Survivors include two sons; Charles Melendez and his wife Ashley of Manhattan, Kansas and Kevin Smith of Junction City, Kansas; two brothers, Michael Dupere of Montevideo, Minnesota and Leroy Dupere of Junction City, Kansas; one sister, Inge Noa of Junction City, Kansas; two grandchildren, Damion and Holden both of Manhattan, Kansas and her best friend Benny Melendez; nephews and nieces, Casey and her husband Herschel Weishaar and their children Bowie, Lyra, Colt and August, Morgan and her husband Andrew Goebel and their children Tucker and Russell, Maria (Maggie) and her husband Dave Metzler and a host of many cousins in Copperas Cove, Texas. Hazel Irene (Olson) Patterson was born July 30, 1932 on a farm northwest of Dwight, Kansas. She was one of four children born to Alfred and Emma Olson. Hazel passed away on April 26, 2024, at Chapman Valley Manor at the age of 91.

Hazel attended Antelope country school and graduated from Dwight Rural High School in 1950. After graduation, she lived and worked in Wichita, KS before marrying John E (Ed) Patterson on April 4, 1951. They lived and farmed south of Alta Vista before moving to the Edgerton area and then to Hillsdale where they farmed until 1962 when they moved back to the Dwight area.

In addition to raising six children, Hazel loved to cook, sew, and spent hours enjoying watching or listening to Kansas City Royals, Kansas City Chiefs, K-State Wildcats and KU Jayhawks football and basketball games. Hazel found great joy in quilting, embroidery and other handwork. She made and donated many lap robes to nursing homes and her quilts were lovingly given to her children, grandchildren and friends over the years.

Hazel was preceded in death by her husband Ed, her son Larry and son Steve. She is survived by her daughters DeeAnn Mayer (Ken), Cheryl Patterson, Carolyn Scott and son Darrell Patterson (Kerry), eleven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren along with nieces, nephews and special friends.

Private graveside services will take place at Dwight Cemetery. Memorial gifts in her memory may be made to the Dwight United Methodist Church.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Sylvia was born on June 19, 1951, to Harold and Lillie (Curtis) Holland in Aragon, Georgia. In late 1951, Sylvia and her family moved to Junction City, Kansas. Sylvia attended grade school, junior high and graduated from Junction City High School in 1970. After graduation, Sylvia married the love of her life, Danny, on January 29, 1971, the couple had three boys. In 1970, Sylvia began working for the Geary County Attorney where she worked until 1974. From 1974-1976, she worked for the probate judge. Sylvia began her career with United Telephone Company beginning in 1976 through 1994.

Sylvia decided to leave her career to care for her family from 1994 to 1999. She then went back into the workforce at PayPhone Concepts as an accounting clerk from 1999 to 2007. After her work in communications, she transitioned to Geary Community Hospital in the Maintenance Department as the department administrative assistant from 2009 to 2013.

Sylvia loved her family. She enjoyed her time taking care of her loving husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her favorite hobbies included spoiling her grandbabies, reading books, and studying her bible.Her goal in life was to live according to God’s word and be His obedient servant.

Sylvia is survived by her husband, Danny; one son, Christopher (Rhianna) Nelson, their two daughters, Charleigh and Rylee of Manhattan, Kansas. Granddaughter, Marcella (Stephen) Hearn, their two sons Aaron and Micah of San Antonio, Texas. Three sisters; Janice (Alan) Moore of Junction City, Kansas, Terry (Marcus) Hammond of Manhattan, Kansas, and Karen (Ronald) Doyle of Junction City, Kansas; a host of other loving family members and friends.

She is preceded by her mother and father, two sons, Daniel and Joseph Nelson; one grandson, Joseph Nelson; three brothers, Homer, Jerry, Harold Holland; and one sister, Wanda Mathis.

Jayson was very mechanically inclined and was known to make his own tools. He worked long hours taking care of many strangers and customers that were stranded. He enjoyed motorcycles, woodworking, engine repair, coaching baseball, coaching YMCA sports, Nascar and any form of car racing, wrestling, fishing and anything outdoors.

On September 7, 1991 he married Donna Joy Adams. They were later divorced. He later married Monica Jane Nicholson. They were later divorced.

Survivors include five sons, Ben (Megan), Alex, Nick (Tyra), Nate (Shy) and Jacob; two daughters, Madison and Samantha; four grandchildren, Noah, Jeremiah, Lilah and Everly; father and mother, James and Barbara Cynova, all of Junction City, Kansas.

Diane Lee Saunders Long was born during the sweltering summer of 1934 on August 2 on the Plaza in Kansas City. The endless heat of that summer may explain some of the dry wit and stubbornness she was known for.

She was the only child of John William Saunders and Violet Mary Dunn who were high school sweethearts and had roots in Oregon. While her dad’s grocery job led them to St. Joe and then Manhattan, they instilled a love for family in their daughter. They often hosted friends and family and went on trips to see them back west.

Diane worked for the City Dairy in Manhattan as an ice cream scooper and it is here where she met her husband-to-be, William Long, whose family owned the dairy where he worked on the milk routes. She went to Kansas State University for a year where she was in Tri-Delta and majored in journalism.

After she and Bill married in a simple ceremony with a cake and punch reception, they began building their life together. They brought four children home into their two-bedroom house: John William Long, Linda Kay Hall, Scott Chester Long, and Mary Susan van Swaay. Summers were spent on national guard drill camps and camping alongside others. The kids spent time exploring nature while Diane kept everyone together and fed (except for that one time one kid was left at a grocery store and had to be returned for) and Bill didn’t miss a single historical marker.

Eventually, they settled in on Church Avenue where they had coordinated Christmas lights and school pick up schedules with the neighbors when it rained. Diane was known for her ability to talk for ages with people on the phone, sit, sip coffee and chat with friends, and feed everyone who walked through her door.

She spent time running a daycare, taking care of her kids while attending their events, allowing her children to collect a menagerie of animals, and dealing with every car her husband and sons brought home that didn’t quite work. She was a poodle lover and adored having one on her lap. Tragically and much to her dismay, her husband brought home a much larger dog than her beloved poodles from the shelter. That Christmas, Grandma got ran over by a sheepdog that had got excited over a vacuum and ran over her and she got a new hip. Her stubbornness had allowed it to freeze, so really the dog was just helping her out. Eventually, the dog wormed his way deeply into her heart.

Her children married and she gained much beloved children in laws - Deborah Long, James Hall, and Jouke van Swaay.

They blessed her with nine grandchildren who she made sure she always had homemade applesauce from the backyard tree on hand for, that they never left her house hungry, and when they bickered with their siblings, reminded them of how she longed for a brother or sister. Those grandchildren were obviously the light of her life and their accomplishments both personal and professional are ones she could often be heard sharing. They continue to provide her with grandchildren in laws and numerous great grandchildren.

Diane was always fascinated with genealogy. She volunteered with the genealogy society, was dedicated to figuring out what connection could be proved to become a member of the DAR, leaving flowers on every family and family friends’ grave for Memorial Day, and loved connecting different places she saw or heard people were from to her family’s history. She and Bill spent numerous years heavily involved in Post 17 of the American Legion and as members of a Hunt Club. Together they helped care for and love the older generation of their family as they aged. While she loved K-State, she could never watch the game if it was tight because it made her too nervous.

She loved a medium rare steak, ice cream, coffee, fruit on cottage cheese, a good hot dog and never met a family dog she couldn’t make her best friend through feeding table food. She despised vegetables, arthritis, and the color orange. Her wit was dry, her kitchen seemed to magically produce never ending food to nourish and comfort her family, and she is deeply cherished by those who know her.

Her and her family are extremely grateful to the wonderful humans that helped care for Diane in the end at Meadowlark Home Health, Bramlage House, and Good Shepherd Hospice House.

Graveside Services for Diane will be held at 11:00a.m. Wednesday May 1, 2024 at the Sunrise Cemetery in Manhattan. Family and friends are invited to meet at the funeral home at 10:30a.m. to form a procession to the cemetery.

Diane Long

Clara Ellen Bach, age 84, of Manhattan KS died on April 25th, 2024 at Meadowlark Hills Nursing Home while two of her daughters were praying the rosary to guide her home.

She was born August 12th, 1939 in Haviland KS, the oldest child of Gilbert &amp; Leona “May” (Rose) Yohn. Clara graduated from Greensburg High School in 1957. She attended Kansas State University where she studied nuclear engineering until she met her late husband Lawrence Leon Bach. They married October 3rd, 1959 and had 57 happy years until his death in 2016. She lived most of her adult life in Blue Rapids, KS until 2002 when she moved to Flush, KS and then to Manhattan, KS in 2016.

Clara was an integral part in making the Bach Farm in Blue Rapids KS successful. She was a dedicated mother, attending every school event of her children without fail. She could often be found plowing the fields, cutting alfalfa, going to the market to purchase and sell farm animals, growing a Victory Garden, and sewing clothing or quilts. She enjoyed reading the newspaper daily and loved to read books through the end of her life. She was also an avid member of her church organizations, the Red Hat Club, and volunteered at the Blue Rapids Public Library. Later in life, she enjoyed many years snow birding in Arizona and was a founding member of the Oregon Trail Sams Camping Club.

Survivors includer her six children; Michael Bach of Tampa, Florida, John Bach and wife Beth of Wichita, Kansas, Philip Bach and his wife Kenda of Archie, Missouri, Anastasia Blundell and her husband Troy of Powderly, Texas, Monica Smithwick and her husband Tim of Manhattan, Kansas, Cathryn Bach of Germantown, Maryland; two sisters, Geraldine Benesky of Walsenburg, Colorado and Pauline Conard of Larned, Kansas; her brother, Gail Yohn and his wife Barbera of Hutchinson, Kansas; twelve grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Clara was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence, an infant child, and her parents.

Cremation is planned. Family and friends are invited to pray the Rosary at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 10th, 2024, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church at Flush. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 10th, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with inurnment to follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

Kelli Ann Ireton, age 44, of Manhattan, passed away April 24, 2024 in Manhattan.

Kelli was born on April 4, 1980 in Saginaw, Michigan, the daughter of Dale A. and Barbara (Smith) Rivett. Kelli and her family moved to Manhattan in 1985. She attended schools in Manhattan, and graduated from Manhattan High School with the class of 1998. After graduation she attended Kansas State University, she earned her Bachelors Degree in Phycology. She later earned her Bachelors Degree in Secondary Education and a Master’s Degree in Mathematics.

Kelli worked for USD 475 in Junction City, she was not only a math teacher to students but also was an instructor to other teacher's on how to teach math. Kelli also ran the AVID Program at Junction City over her 12 years. She later worked for USD 383 in Manhattan for 3 years. Kelli was an outstanding Math instructor and took pride in mentoring young adults over the years. She loved family, friends, photography and cooking.

She was united in marriage to Daniel Ireton. They were blessed with three children, Alex, Gauge, and Madeline. Kelli and Daniel later divorced.

Kelli is survived by her children Alex Ireton (Taylor), Gauge Ireton, and Madeline Ireton, and also her precious granddaughter Karson Ireton.

The family will greet friends during a visitation on Tuesday May 7, 2024 from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home in Manhattan.

Kelli Ann Ireton

Ida Johanna (Kauer) Roberts, passed away on April 23, 2024, at Wellsprings of Westmoreland.

She was born April 9,1931 in Spearville, Kansas to Theodore and Anna (Diehl) Bosman. However, shortly thereafter, her mother passed away from complications and she was adopted by Anna’s sister Ida (Diehl) and husband Andrew Kauer and moved with them to Ogden, Kansas where she grew up.

While working as a telephone supervisor, at Ft Riley, she met and married Milton T Roberts (Pete). Pete and Ida had four children: Dianna, Debra, Deidre and Milton Jr (Tom). They had been married for 53 years.

Ida loved traveling. This was made possible by Pete’s time in the Army. They moved from Ft Riley to Colorado, France, California, Washington State, Germany and then back to Ft Riley where Pete eventually retired.

In Ida’s spare time she loved to knit Afghans. She would give them as presents to family and friends.

Ida was also a wonderful cook and baker. Her mother worked as a cook for a K-State fraternity and prior to transferring to France she was called on to help her out. The boys loved her meatloaf more than her mother’s and they asked her to stay and cook for them.

Ida felt one of her greatest accomplishments was graduating from Kansas State University while she was in her sixties.

Ida was preceded in death by her husband Milton T Roberts (Pete), her father and mother Andrew &amp; Ida Kauer and Theodore and Anna Bosman, her three sisters, Rita Kauer, Monica Hornung and EllaRose Jones. She is survived by her sister Alice Bucher, daughter Dianna Sorenson, daughter Debra Roberts, daughter Deidre Back and son Milton (Tom).

Ida and Milton (Pete) have 9 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren. She will be dearly missed.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 30th, at the St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Ogden with Deacon Ed Souza officiating. A Celebration of Ida’s life will be held in May.

Rita May Rumford McCorkle

Terrale William Johnson, 29, passed away Saturday, April 20, 2024 in Lenexa, KS. He is proceeded in death by his father Brian Keith Johnson and his paternal and maternal grandparents.

Terrale was born on June 29, 1994 to Brian and Regina Johnson in Tulsa, Oklahoma, He was a bundle of joy from birth and that joy carried on through his adult years. In 1997 the family moved to Manhattan, KS where he grew up. He has always been out going and his personality could light up a room. He was the youngest of the three Johnson Boys. The brothers bond grew stronger over the years and could not be broken.

Terrale gave his life to the Lord at an early age and was baptized on October 19, 2003. He was very active in the church. He started out as a Sunbeam and on to the Youth Department. He sang with the youth choir, participated in the youth plays, and programs. He attended youth conventions and youth camps. He had an interest in playing the drums, well his dad had an interest for him to play the drums, so that’s what he did and he learned to love it.

Terrale was a true athlete, he could play any sport. In his early years he played flag football, soccer, baseball, basketball, and even tried wrestling. He knew at an early age that football was the sport that he wanted to pursue and that was his passion. He began playing tackle football in the 3rd grade on a fourth grade team. That team wasn’t too good but that didn’t matter to Terrale, he just wanted to know did you see that tackle I made.

After graduating from Manhattan High in 2012, he attended Hutchinson Community College, where he received a full ride football scholarship. After completing his Associates Degree at Hutchinson Community College he transferred to Kansas State University where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Social Science in 2016.

While at Kansas State University he played three years as an offensive lineman. During his tenure the team played in two bowl games. He earned First Team All Big 12 honors from the AP and 2016 Second Team All-Big 12 from ESPN. He also played Semi Professional Arena Football for the Albuquerque Raiders and Omaha Beef.

After his football playing career ended, he didn’t stray far away from football. He began working as a Para-Educator while coaching (offensive Line coach) at Mill Valley High in the Kansas City area. While coaching at Mill Valley the team won 2 State Championships. From Mill Valley he accepted a position as a coach and resource teacher at Shawnee Mission South (“South side”). He was pursuing his education to further his career as a teacher.

Terrale embraced his position as a coach. He built relationships with each of his players. He not only saw his position as a coach but as an opportunity to mentor young men helping them to develop as they prepared for adulthood. He did what he could to encourage and motivate any student that he came in contact with. He supported the students in every sporting event whether he was their primary coach or not. He genuinely cared for people and he loved the students that were around him.

Terrale was a young man of integrity and character he stood for right. He was respectful and full of life. He loved his family and enjoyed nothing more than playing with his nieces and nephews. You couldn’t find a person that was more loyal. He had a big heart; he just wanted his family and friends to win. He made an impact on everyone that he came in contact with. He is proceeded in death by his father Brian Keith Johnson and his paternal and maternal grandparents.Terrale was born on June 29, 1994 to Brian and Regina Johnson in Tulsa, Oklahoma, He was a bundle of joy from birth and that joy carried on through his adult years. In 1997 the family moved to Manhattan, KS where he grew up. He has always been out going and his personality could light up a room. He was the youngest of the three Johnson Boys. The brothers bond grew stronger over the years and could not be broken.Terrale gave his life to the Lord at an early age and was baptized on October 19, 2003. He was very active in the church. He started out as a Sunbeam and on to the Youth Department. He sang with the youth choir, participated in the youth plays, and programs. He attended youth conventions and youth camps. He had an interest in playing the drums, well his dad had an interest for him to play the drums, so that’s what he did and he learned to love it.Terrale was a true athlete, he could play any sport. In his early years he played flag football, soccer, baseball, basketball, and even tried wrestling. He knew at an early age that football was the sport that he wanted to pursue and that was his passion. He began playing tackle football in the 3rd grade on a fourth grade team. That team wasn’t too good but that didn’t matter to Terrale, he just wanted to know did you see that tackle I made.After graduating from Manhattan High in 2012, he attended Hutchinson Community College, where he received a full ride football scholarship. After completing his Associates Degree at Hutchinson Community College he transferred to Kansas State University where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Social Science in 2016.While at Kansas State University he played three years as an offensive lineman. During his tenure the team played in two bowl games. He earned First Team All Big 12 honors from the AP and 2016 Second Team All-Big 12 from ESPN. He also played Semi Professional Arena Football for the Albuquerque Raiders and Omaha Beef.After his football playing career ended, he didn’t stray far away from football. He began working as a Para-Educator while coaching (offensive Line coach) at Mill Valley High in the Kansas City area. While coaching at Mill Valley the team won 2 State Championships. From Mill Valley he accepted a position as a coach and resource teacher at Shawnee Mission South (“South side”). He was pursuing his education to further his career as a teacher.Terrale embraced his position as a coach. He built relationships with each of his players. He not only saw his position as a coach but as an opportunity to mentor young men helping them to develop as they prepared for adulthood. He did what he could to encourage and motivate any student that he came in contact with. He supported the students in every sporting event whether he was their primary coach or not. Kurylynn Michelle “Kury” Comer, 30, of Wamego, Kansas, passed away on Monday (April 22, 2024) in Wamego.

Born March 13, 1994 in Pueblo, Colorado, Kury was the daughter of Kay Lane and Tracy Reifschneider. For the last 11 years, Kury shared her life with her husband, Brad Riniker who survives at the home.

Kury was a 2012 graduate of Wamego High School. &nbsp;She loved the outdoors, fishing, mushroom hunting, &nbsp;camping, and her trips to Colorado to visit her grandparents cabin. &nbsp;She was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan and enjoyed listening to a variety of music.

Kury’s family was most important to her and she loved being a stay at home mom. Surviving is her husband, Brad; her children, Tessa Riniker, Jace Riniker and Gavin Pierce; her mother, Kay Gardner (Jeff) of Salina, KS; her father, Tracy Reifschneider (Kennetha) of Louisville, KS; her siblings, Darby Comer (Anna) of Mayetta, KS and William Reifschneider of &nbsp;Miami, FL; a nephew, Jack Comer; Gavin’s adoptive parents, Jeffrey Pierce and Bonnie Bluhm; Maternal Grandparents, Terry and Patti Lane of Pueblo West, CO; Paternal Grandparents, Dale and Theresa Reifschneider of Inglewood, FL; Aunts &amp; Uncles, David Lane (Cyndi), Meranda Reifschneider and Henry Reifschneider (Alisha); her father in law, Ray Riniker of Belvue, KS; her mother in law, Penny Riniker (Rob) of Alma; cousins, Jessica Eck (Chris) and Jaimie Garnett; and many friends, including very close friends, Michelle Hoffman, Katlyn Dawson &amp; Ashley Derenne.

Brenda Joyce Martin, known as Joyce to her friends and family, passed away on April 23, 2024, at Rolling Hills Health and Rehab center in Topeka, Kansas. &nbsp;

Joyce was born on September 27, 1940, in Higginsville, Missouri. &nbsp;She was the eldest of three daughters born to Wilbur and Georgia “Dot” (Fizer) Hamer. &nbsp;

She excelled academically, graduating as Valedictorian from Vinland Kansas High School. &nbsp;She was a homemaker when her children were young, later working in their school as a food preparer in Eudora, Kansas. She worked as an office assistant at Kansas State University for a number of years before moving to Colorado, where she also worked for several employers before returning to Wamego to be closer to her children. &nbsp;Her final position was at the Smoke Signal newspaper in Wamego, Kansas, as an office assistant. &nbsp;

Joyce's legacy is one of love and faith. &nbsp;She was an active member of the New Life Baptist Church in Wamego. &nbsp;Her faith was the cornerstone of her existence, guiding her through life's ups and downs with grace and resilience. &nbsp;An artist at heart, Joyce possessed a remarkable talent for needlework of all types. &nbsp;Her intricate creations were a source of joy for her and the recipients of her beautiful work. &nbsp;Music was another of Joyce’s passions; she enjoyed playing the piano and singing. &nbsp;She also found joy in gardening, cultivating a vibrant array of flowers.

Survivors include her two daughters, Karlene Teske (Terry) of Wamego, Kansas, and Tammy Kokenge (Jim) of Topeka, Kansas; two grandchildren, Rolland Varnadore of Wamego, Kansas, and Keegan Varnadore (Kara) of Clearwater, Kansas; two great-grandchildren, Landon and Breyleigh Varnadore; and two sisters, Vicki Hamer and Crystal Hamer of Colorado, who will miss her deeply. &nbsp;

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents. &nbsp;

Randy Joe Floberg, age 70 of Topeka, passed away Friday, April 19, 2024, at The University of Kansas Health System St. Francis Campus in Topeka.

He was born on September 13, 1953, in Manhattan, the son of Wayne T. and Gladys E. (Hohman) Floberg. &nbsp;Randy’s early years were spent in Randolph, Kansas and he grew through his teen years in Manhattan, Kansas.

Randy made his career in the Construction Industry, starting as general labor, but he quickly progressed to heavy equipment operating specializing in cranes, then on to a long-term supervisory position in municipal swimming pool construction with Carrothers Construction Company. &nbsp;He had a solid reputation for handling the on-site issues encountered with remote construction sites. &nbsp;Randy enjoyed the outdoors with emphasis on both fishing and bird hunting along with spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his faithful companion, Denise Wagner; five stepchildren, Renee, Johnny, Holly, Bobbie, and Sarah; seven grandchildren, and an expected great grandchild; two brothers, Roland (Cheryl) and Dean (Jill); one stepbrother, John; two stepsisters, Diana, and Denise; nieces, Lois, Lara, Kirstin, and nephew Dane. &nbsp;Randy graciously accepted the parental responsibility of his stepchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Barbara; a nephew, Gregg, and his stepmother, Zadie.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Sunday, April 28, 2024, in the Randolph Fancy Creek Cemetery.

Lucille Wohler, 95 died April 23, 2024, in Clay Center, KS. &nbsp;She was born on August 27, 1928, near Oak Hill, the daughter of John Jacob and Lillie Viola (Affolter) Largent. &nbsp;Lucille was born on a farm near Oak Hill. &nbsp;She attended Trudell and Manning country schools before moving with her parents to a farm near Longford where Lucille completed 8th grade at Mulberry county school. &nbsp;Her father preceded her in death in 1945 and she moved to Clay Center with her mother. &nbsp;Lucille was a graduate of the class of 1946 from Clay Cener High School. &nbsp;She worked at C. &amp; W. Rural Electric Assn. before marrying Myron “Bud” Wohler on June 12, 1949. &nbsp;They made their home on a farm southwest of Clay Center until October 11, 2022. &nbsp;Bud preceded her in death on October 23, 2022.

Lucille enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, reading, working on puzzles, flower gardening and especially loved babysitting. &nbsp;She is preceded in death by her parents and a son, Douglas Wohler.

Jimmie Keith Vilander, known affectionately as Jim, died on April 23, 2024, at the age of 85, at Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan, Kansas.&nbsp;

Jim was born on November 19, 1938, in Cleburne, Kansas, the son of Glennon and Eleanor (Vathauer) Vilander.

Jim married Lois Stewart on November 22, 1956, in Zeandale, Kansas, she survives of the home.

Jim had a dedication to craftsmanship and education. He built a career with his hands, constructing homes and pouring foundations that testify to his skill and attention to detail. In addition to his construction work, Jim's connection to the land was evident in his farming, where he nurtured both crops and community. His love for teaching allowed him to share his extensive knowledge with others, leaving a legacy of practical wisdom and lifelong learning.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Jim was a man of many interests. He was an avid woodworker, creating beautiful pieces that showcased his artistry and precision. Model railroads were another of Jim's joys, reflecting his love for intricate detail and nostalgia. Fishing gave him quiet moments of reflection and a deep appreciation for nature's gifts. Jim also owned and enjoyed flying classic and unique airplanes in his spare time. &nbsp;

Jim is survived by his wife, Lois Vilander, son; Richard (Ruth) Vilander, grandchildren; Harold (Kelsey Lutz) Vilander, and Jennifer (Jason) Hart, great-grandchildren; David Hart, James Hart, Harry Hart, Madelyn Hart, Evangeline Hart, and Marceline Vilander, and his sister; Joyce Plyter.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his, parents Glennon and Eleanor Vilander, and brother-in-law, Duane Plyter.&nbsp;

Jerry L. Schad, 88 years of age, passed peacefully on Saturday, April 20, 2024.

Jerry was born December 1, 1935, to Henry and Mildred Norman Schad of Milford, KS. He was the oldest of four children, including Joe Schad, Mary Lou Brown and Charles Schad, all who preceded him in death. Jerry attended Pleasant View grade school and graduated from St. Xavier’s High School in Junction City in 1953. He attended Regis College in Denver, CO and Kansas State College in Manhattan, KS. Jerry married Patricia “Patsy” Dreiling of Chapman, KS at St. Michael’s Catholic Church on January 26, 1957, and made Junction City their home. Born to this union were three children, Terry, Kathy, and Thomas (Tom). Patsy preceded Jerry in death on February 17, 2008, as did Terry on February 17, 2009.

Jerry was employed by the Kansas State Department of Human Resources (Kansas Employment and Unemployment departments) in Junction City for 36 years, retiring in June 1995. He enjoyed playing intermural basketball until he was 50 years old and was an avid golfer, with four hole-in-ones to his credit. He also enjoyed family, friends, fishing, playing pool and dancing.&nbsp; In fact, Jerry was often referred to by his friends as the ‘Fred Astaire’ of the dance floor; something he was quite proud of.&nbsp; Jerry married Lorena Marcotte Clark on October 6, 2012.

 He is survived by his daughter Kathy Willmott and her husband Kevin Willmott, Lawrence, KS, his son, Tom Schad of Kansas City, MO, his grandchildren Chris and Brenna Henderson of Lawrence, KS, Jeremy Antenen and Michael Schad of Kansas City, KS, and great granddaughter Amelia Schad of Kansas City, Kansas, and his stepsons, Mike Clark and his wife, Kathy of Dallas, Texas, and Jerry Clark of Clay Center, KS.

Loma Arlene Stuewe went to her eternal home on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at the age of 99. &nbsp;She would have celebrated her 100th birthday in less than two months. &nbsp;Loma passed peacefully at the Midland Hospice House in Topeka, Kansas due to complications from a fall.

&nbsp;Loma was born June 18, 1924, on the family farm north of McFarland, Kansas. &nbsp;She was one of six daughters born to Henry and Emma (Weith) Mathies. &nbsp;Loma received the rite of Holy Baptism on July 16, 1924, at Trinity Lutheran Church, McFarland. &nbsp;She later confirmed her faith in her Lord and Savior by rite of confirmation on June 5, 1938, at Trinity Lutheran. &nbsp;Loma’s faith guided her during her entire lifetime and her love for the Lord could be seen in her role as a wife, mother, and friend. &nbsp;Loma met her future husband at a Walther League meeting at church where they both attended youth services.

&nbsp; &nbsp;Loma Arlene Mathies married Milton John Stuewe on January 21, 1945, at St. John Lutheran Church, Alma, Kansas. &nbsp;Following a honeymoon to the Kansas City Livestock Auction, Milton and Loma returned to make their home on the family farm south of Alma. To this union were born five sons. &nbsp; &nbsp;The couple worked side-by-side raising their sons and livestock. &nbsp;During a typical summer Loma raised several hundred chicks. &nbsp;A routine summer day included butchering 12 to 15 fryers, three or four of which ended up on the table each day for lunch. &nbsp;In 1995 the couple retired and Loma’s dream to move to “town” was achieved when they moved to their new home in the city of Alma. Milton and Loma enjoyed 65 years of marriage. Milton died in September 2009. &nbsp; Loma moved to the Alma Manor five years ago and lived there until its closure a year ago. &nbsp;She spent her last year residing at Rolling Hills, Topeka.

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Loma was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church where she remained active until her health declined. &nbsp; Loma was a member of Friendship Circle and Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. She was famous for her coconut cream pies and glazed donuts which were always requested for the many meals served at the church, in the community and especially at family gatherings.

&nbsp;Loma was an artisan known for her quilting skills. She lovingly completed quilts for her children and grandchildren. For many years she worked countless hours making quilts that were sent to people in need abroad, to Lutheran seminary students, students at Lutheran colleges, confirmands, and the local shelter. &nbsp;Loma enjoyed being a participant of the “living quilt display” at the Wabaunsee County Historical Museum.

Loma could be seen actively working with her church sisters serving decades of meals for the annual Alma Co-Op Association Supper, Cattleman’s Association Dinner, Soil Conservation Dinner, and AAL annual meetings. &nbsp;She helped serve countless funeral dinners for church members.

&nbsp;&nbsp;Loma is survived by her five sons: Milton Jr. and Candy, Alma, Ray, and Shiela, Wichita, Kansas, Gerald and Darcy, Alma, Ervan and Pamela, Alma, and Mark and Sharon, Maple Hill, Kansas. &nbsp; Milton and Loma have 15 grandchildren: Shaun Stuewe, Sarajane Stuewe, Darcy (Russell) Torrey, Melissa (Norman) Smith, David (Kim) Stuewe, Ryan (Alyssa) Stuewe, Heather (Todd) Orton, Brandon (Jackie) Stuewe, Brooke (Kohath) Ben-Israel, Morgan (Seth) Brees, Kristie Stuewe, Justin (Alicia) Stuewe, Travis (Katelynn) Stuewe, Richy (Carolyn) Richardson, and Jill (Jake) Graham. &nbsp;They were further blessed with 34 great-grandchildren: Lacie (Jeremy), Ashley, Chelsea (Clinton), Seth, Ethan, Eve, Sage, Colton, Austin (Brittany), Fletcher, Cameron, Karlee, Reagan, Ashton, Meghan, Jacob, Lucas, Hunter, Hanna, Sigil, Talen, Cyler, Amelia, Abram, Christian, Nolan, Soria, Hazel, Kaley (Matt), Levi (Chelsea), Jameson (Nicole), Jacob (Morgan), Kaleb and Luke. &nbsp;Expanding the family further are14 great great-grandchildren. &nbsp; Loma is also survived by her sisters Inez Theel, Laverne Falk, and sister-in-law Charmaine Stuewe.&nbsp;&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her husband Milton, daughter-in-law Laura Stuewe, great great-granddaughter Ava Cheely, and sisters Esther Stuewe, Lillie Neff, and Ella Theel.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, April 26, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Alma, with burial following at St. John Lutheran Cemetery. Reverend Robert Grimm will officiate. Betty Seibel passed away at Village Manor on April 18, 2024. She was born on May 31,1927, Abilene, Kansas to Ralph and Mary (Daniels) Stillie. Her childhood was spent in Abilene where she attended local schools graduating from Abilene High School in 1946. She married the love of her life, Lloyd Seibel, on February 16, 1947,in the First Baptist Church. Shortly after marriage the couple moved close to Lloyd’s brother in California, where they lived most of their married life. She and Lloyd enjoyed traveling including many trips to Las Vegas, sightseeing in the US, Canada and Europe. Betty worked for Pacific Telephone Company, retiring after 34 years. After her husband’s death, and being away more than 40 years, she moved back to Abilene.

 She is preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd; brother, Andrew; sisters Phillis, Marie and Lois; cousins Helen Farley and Leonard Daniels. She is survived by her son Charles and wife Maria of Palm Springs, California and her life long friend, Gayle Dautel of Wichita.Betty has chosen cremation and burial at the Zion Cemetery.

He earned many ribbons and awards during his years of service, including the Bronze Star. After his retirement he worked multiple contracting jobs on and off Fort Riley.On March 9, 1985 in Delran, New Jersey, Bob was united in marriage to Kelly Horn.
