Earl Eugene Baugher

Earl Eugene Baugher, 96, passed away on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka, Kansas. Born on February 24, 1928, in Friend, Kansas, he was the son of John and Ellen (Carlson) Baugher.

Earl married Kathryn M. Jones on December 28, 1952, in El Dorado Springs, Missouri. 

After serving 4 years in the U.S. Air Force and being honorably discharged on September 11, 1954, he pursued higher education. Earl earned both a B.S. and M.S. from Kansas State University and went on to become a highly respected and awarded agriculture educator. He held teaching positions at Beloit High School and helped establish North Central Kansas Technical College in Beloit in 1964. In 1967, he joined the faculty at Kansas State University, where he remained until his retirement in 1993.

Earl was an active member of the Flint Hills Veterans Coalition, the Konza Kampers chapter of the Good Sam Camping Group, and the American Legion.

He is survived by his wife, Kathryn; daughters, Marsha Field of Hutchinson, KS, and Brenda (Vance) Taylor of Grand Forks, ND; son, Darin (Leslie) Baugher of Celebration, FL; brothers, Robert "Bob" Baugher of Austin, TX, and John "Jack" Baugher of Kansas City, KS; grandchildren, Alex (Lauren) Field, Paul (Emily) Field, Brittney (Jacob) Wynne, Derek (Carly Rustebakke) Taylor, Grace (Max Dunlap) Baugher, and Emily Baugher; and two great-grandchildren, Audrey and Henry Wynne.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Dean, and his son-in-law Harry Field.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 16, 2024, at College Avenue United Methodist Church, 1609 College Avenue, Manhattan, Kansas. 

Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. before the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Johnson Cancer Research Center at Kansas State University, in care of Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, KS 66502.
