&nbsp;Dora Darlene Bentz was born January 4, 1927 to Donald and Jennie (Warner) Bentz in Milford, Kan. Darlene passed away Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2024 at the age of 97 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan.

Darlene grew up in rural Milford, and attended High Point Country School near Milford, graduating from Milford High School in 1944. She attended Kansas State University under the emergency certificate during WWII, and then taught at the Wetzel Country School in eastern Geary County, at Acme School east of Milford, and at High Point west of Milford.

Darlene married Leslie L. Lacer in Milford on Jan. 7, 1948. They made their home in Junction City, and together raised three sons. He preceded her in death on May 11, 1989.Darlene was a homemaker, and a loving and devoted mother and grandmother. Caring about and praying for her family was always a priority. She loved to host holiday celebrations at her home, and enjoyed gathering the family together. She was a longtime member of the First Christian Church of Junction City, and served as Sunday School superintendent for the nursery through kindergarten department for many years. She was also a devoted member of the Tuesday morning ladies prayer group. She loved singing in the church choir for many years, and sang at many weddings and funerals. She was a lunchroom attendant for many years at Franklin School in Junction City, and was a member of the Railroaders. She volunteered for several years at the Geary County Historical Museum.

Darlene married Robert “Bob” Hiatt on Jan.10, 1995. Together they enjoyed travel and camping trips with the Coachman Camping Club. Together with Bob, she also delivered Meals on Wheels for many years, and took part in activities at the Geary County Senior Center. She was greatly loved, and will be greatly missed. She is survived by her husband, Bob, of the home in Junction City; three sons, David Michael Lacer, Wakefield, Steven Douglas Lacer and his wife Carol, Chapman, and Donald Edward Lacer and his wife, Lori, Junction City; eight grandchildren: Rachel Keck, Sarah Lacer, Jacob (Susan) Lacer, Joel (Melissa) Lacer, Brandon (Melanie) Deitrick, Jason Lacer, Joshua (Lesli) Lacer and Tina Lacer; 18 great grandchildren; a sister and brother in law, Charlotte and Larry Denver of Manhattan; many nieces and nephews; and Bob's children and grandchildren, who loved her as their own. Darlene was preceded in death by her husband, L.L. Lacer, her parents, Don and Jennie Bentz, two sisters, Mary Whittet and Dorothy Don Roether, and a stepson, Wayne Lacer and his daughter Brenna Lacer.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 30, 2024 at the First Christian Church with Pastor Ronnie Roberts officiating. A private burial with family will be held at a later time. Memorials may be given to the First Christian Church of Junction City and to the Good Shepherd Hospice in Manhattan.

&nbsp; Steven Thomas Jacoutot, 58, of Winfield, Kansas passed away on August 16, 2024, at the Kansas Veterans Home. Steve was born on May 25, 1966, to Thomas and Cynthia (Pfeiffer) Jacoutot at Kokomo, Indiana. He graduated from Haworth High School in the year 1984. After graduating, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, he served his country honorably.

During his military years, he served as Military Police. His passion for law enforcement would follow him during his whole life. After his first contract with the U.S. Army, he joined the Army National Guard while serving his community with the Topeka Police Department. During his employment with the Topeka Police Department, he had many roles such as their D.A.R.E officer and working with their Cadet Program. After hours from his law enforcement duties, he taught Tae Kwon Do to the local youth at the community rec center. He himself attained the rank of 3rd Degree Black Belt.

After retiring from the Topeka Police Department, he decided to continue his higher education by returning back to school. He received a Master's Degree in Management Criminal Justice from Colorado Tech University in 2010. This was one of his proudest achievements.

Steve's family, friends, and co-workers will remember his jokes, smiles, and that infectious high pitch laugh that he had. He was the Super Bowl party host, always inviting his friends and family. He loved to host and doing so was his way of showing his love to the ones he cared about. Steven was an eternal optimist, one of his famous saying was, "It's just another day in paradise". Based on his faith, he is now finally right.Steven is survived by his loving mother, Cynthia; two sisters, Rebecca (Brian) Fye of Indiana and Suzanne (Graham) Roe of Indiana; one aunt, Cindy (Greg) Baker; one uncle, John Pfeiffer and one Godson, George Scharff. He is preceded in death by his father, Thomas Jacoutot; four uncles Bob Jacoutot, Jerry Pfeiffer, Dennis Pfeiffer, and Harvey Pfeiffer.

&nbsp; Marlene Ruth (Rahe) Smith, 90, of Junction City, Kansas went to heaven on Friday, August 16, 2024 at Reflection Living in Wichita, Kansas. A funeral service will take place at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 26 at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Pastor Rick Marrs and Pastor Tim McCall officiating. The family will receive friends at noon one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow the funeral at Highland Cemetery.

Marlene was born October 13, 1933, in Palmer, Kansas, the daughter of Emil and Clara (Rodehorst) Rahe. She was raised on a farm with her three brothers and graduated as valedictorian from Linn High School in 1951. After graduating, she worked for REA in Clay Center, Kansas and Kansas Power and Light in Salina, Kansas. On July 11, 1965, she married Orville Jerry Smith in Salina, Kansas. They moved to Junction City, Kansas where they lived and worked for over 50 years.

Marlene worked for many years for Geary County Public Schools as a secretary at Junction City High School. She was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Junction City, serving on the Evangelism Committee, singing in the choir, participating in Bible Study, making quilts with the Mission Sewers group, and volunteering within both the church and school. She supported the Geary County 4-H as a volunteer as well as volunteering as an election worker for Geary County.

In her free time, Marlene was an avid supporter of Junction City High School athletics and attended games with Jerry whenever possible. She was a loyal Kansas State fan, attending and watching games with family to cheer on the Wildcats as often as she could. Marlene was well known for frequently sending cards and letters to friends and family, and even regularly sending well wishes and encouragement to coaches and athletes from Junction City High School. She loved baking cookies and making other treats to share with friends and family and giving generously to many charities. Above all, she loved her family with her whole heart and soul as a wife, mother, grandma, and great-grandma, and was a loyal, supportive friend and faithful servant of the Lord.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Eugene Henry Baumfalk was born August 31, 1935 in Hitchcock County to Alvin and Hannah Pollmann Baumfalk and entered Heaven on August 21, 2024. Alvin passed away when Eugene was only eight years old. Hannah later remarried Harry Hein and two more brothers and a sister were added to the family.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Eugene graduated High School from Culbertson and lived in the Culbertson and the McCook area his entire life. Eugene enlisted in the United States Army in March 1959 and was honorably discharged in July 1960. On November 21, 1964, Eugene married Cleta Riley Felker. Eugene became a father to Donald, Ray and Lori with this marriage and in 1971 Eugene and Cleta welcomed another son, Paul.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Eugene worked at the McCook Meat Packing Company for several years before going into business for himself laying carpet. Gene excelled at this trade and spent many years at it providing for his family. Eugene bowled on a bowling team for many years; 35 years of them with his son, Don. Bowling was one of the loves of his life along with fishing. He was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker and New York Yankee fan and loved to watch them on TV with Cleta. Eugene also loved animals, but the true loves of his life were his children and grandchildren. He spent many hours caring for his grandchildren. Eugene was a kind and loving man with a deep love for his Lord and Savior. He will be deeply missed by his family.

Eugene Henry Baumfalk (1935-2024)

Sheron L. Swearingen, age 75, of Blue Rapids, passed away in Manhattan after a short illness on Wednesday, August 14, 2024.

Sheron was born April 30, 1949, at Kansas City, Missouri, to Charles W. and Margaret “Mickie” (Jopling) Dixon. She spent most of her childhood living in Lake Latawana, Missouri. She graduated from Shawnee Mission West High School. She was married to Rankin “Rank” Swearingen at their home outside Blue Rapids in 1992. He passed away in 2019.

Right after high school Sheron went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad, first in Kansas City, Kansas and then transferred to Marysville in 1985. Her last job at the railroad was as an Engineer. She retired from the Union Pacific after twenty-six years of work so she could be home more. She then worked for Titan Trailer Manufacturing in paint repair until her retirement. Looking for something to do, she worked the donut shift at Casey’s part time, until totally retiring.

Some of her favorite memories included, time with family, Thanksgiving and swimming. The times she traveled with Dan to Scotland and Ireland, ____ Republic, Puerto Vallarta, and Costa Rica, and their first trip which was to Hawaii. Float trips each summer with Dan,____ and Buffy. One on one time with the grandkids, and her many hobbies.

Survivors include her son Dan M Engle of Manhattan, daughters Amber Swearingen of Blue Rapids and Jackie Swearingen of Wymore, Nebraska, six grandchildren: Zoe’, Rylee, Ashlynne, Blaise, Ryker and Maverick Rankin, a brother Mike Dixon of Axtell and a sister Shannon (Shawn) Huffman of Wymore, Nebraska.

Preceding Sheron in death were her husband Rank, parents Charles and Mickie, and a brother Bradley Meade.

Respect calls will be from noon to 8:00 pm, Saturday, August 24, 2024, with a visitation from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, at Christie-Anderes Funeral Home, Waterville.

Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 pm, Sunday, August 25, 2024, at Prospect Hill Cemetery, north of Blue Rapids, with Mr. Rod Christie officiating. Special recorded music will be “God Bless The Broken Road”. Casket Bearers are to include: Dan Engle, Jeff Nelson, Cassidy Dixon, Mike Dixon, Andy Peregrine and Shawn Huffman. Burial will follow at Prospect Hill Cemetery.

Jane Logan Shea, born Emma Jane Logan on July 17, 1932, in Frontenac, Kansas, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2024, at Wellsprings of Westmoreland. She was 92 years old.

The daughter of Roy Delbert and Ellen West Logan, Jane grew up in Southeast Kansas, forming lifelong friendships that she cherished deeply. She was the youngest of four siblings, all of whom preceded her in death: Lois Gale, Ruth Alene, and Roy Delbert Logan Jr.&nbsp;

Jane attended Central Business College in Kansas City, where she met her best friend, Mary Ann Shea (Schumacher), now deceased. After completing her education, Jane worked as a secretary, eventually retiring in 1997 from Prairie States Marketing in Overland Park.

It was through Mary Ann that Jane met the love of her life, Loran Michael Shea. They married in 1972, and Jane quickly became an integral part of Loran’s life, endearing herself to his five children and becoming the beloved favorite grandparent to many grandchildren. She and Loran shared a deep bond, enjoying card games with friends, visits with grandchildren, and traveling to Loran’s Navy reunions. Jane remained devoted to Loran until his passing in 2005, never remarrying afterward.

In 2022, Jane moved to Wellsprings of Westmoreland, where she spent her final years. There, she found comfort in the camaraderie of Cork Schumacher, Mary Ann’s husband, and enjoyed frequent visits from her niece, Glenna Machin.

Jane is survived by her stepsons, Kelly Hilliard and Kirk (and wife Kathy) Shea; her daughter-in-law Barbara Shea; her grandchildren, Scott Canady, Eddie Phillips, Joshua Shea, Joanna Bidondo, Austin Shea, Stephen Shea, Matthew Shea, and Spencer Shea; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

&nbsp; Ray was born on April 6, 1937, in Alma, where he spent his childhood surrounded by a loving family. Ray was the son of Harvey Sommer and Lillian (Metzger).&nbsp;

&nbsp; Ray proudly served in the Kansas Army National Guard as a Light Vehicle Driver and Construction Machine Operator for 6 years after attending St. John Lutheran School in Alma. His dedication earned him Marksman and Sharpshooter accolades on the Carbine Rifle.

&nbsp; Ray was a dedicated oil truck driver and oil gauger for Texaco Inc., with an impressive record of 500K miles. His work ethic and commitment to excellence were unmatched as he served Texaco Inc. for 35 years before retiring in 1998. His passion for driving extended beyond retirement as he continued to work with Meier Industries LLC, hauling rock, sand, and dirt.&nbsp;

&nbsp; Ray was a member of the Golden Rule Lodge No. 90 Masonic Lodge in Topeka. He actively participated in the Arab Shriners in Topeka, supporting Shriners Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, for a decade.

&nbsp; Ray married Lazon Aldinger on August 16, 1986, in El Dorado, Kansas.

&nbsp; Despite his busy schedule, Ray always found time for his family. He cherished moments boating and camping with his beloved wife, creating countless memories in their collection of boats and campers. Their favorite location to visit was Tucson, Arizona, where they found peace and joy in nature's beauty. He was a dutiful lawn maintainer on his ride on mower. His garage was his sanctuary, where he tinkered and imparted valuable lessons to his children on vehicle maintenance.&nbsp;

&nbsp; In his personal life, Ray was known for his hardworking nature and unwavering dedication to his family. Ray will be deeply missed by his surviving family: his wife Lazon Sommer; his four children, Ronda Kraus (LeRoy), Rodney Sommer (Janet), Earl Pinkston Jr. (Becky), and Tina Lonnis; his nine grandchildren, Tami Creek-Galyean (Montana), Coltyn Lonnis, Earl "Denny" Pinkston III (Betsy), Jesse Zercher (Carrie), Kathleen Kelsey (Andy), Daniel Kraus, Courtney Gruetzmacher (Brandon), Ashton Bigger (Megan), and Kymberly Siemens; and his siblings Robert Sommer, Marlis Daaq, and Edward Sommer.

Loving sister to Samantha Friedel (Peter) and Michael Max (Dakota).&nbsp;She was a loving aunt to Augustus and Everett Friedel, and a beloved niece to Katie Feldt (Lloyd), Joetta Glessner (Michael), Leslie Dugan (Joe), and Chelsi Sterling (Robert), Tom Martin (Monica). Brandie also had many dear cousins, along with a special family of the heart: Kim, Katey, and Ashley Baldwin and David Koch. She was a devoted dog mom to her beloved Leo.

Ilene graduated from Manhattan High School in 1977. In 1983, she married the love of her life, Russell Briggs, and together they embarked on a shared adventure of building a life and family. In 1988, they founded Briggs Auto Group, a testament to their hard work and dedication. The joy of expanding their family came with the birth of their first child, Kent Briggs, in 1988, followed by their daughter, Amber (Briggs) Emley, in 1991.

Ilene’s greatest passion was her family, and she cherished every moment spent with them. She was one to always offer their home to host a gathering of any kind if it meant getting family or friends together. She also had a deep and abiding love for flowers and her garden was proof of her nurturing spirit.

Ilene is survived by her husband, Russell Briggs; her children, Kent Briggs and Amber Emley (Ryan); and her grandchildren, Deacon and Grayson Emley. Most of all she enjoyed cooking her famous pork chops and spending time with her dogs. 

Judy was very proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She married George L. Smith February 14, 1976 in Junction City, Kansas. George died June 10, 2023. &nbsp; Peggy Marie Sorensen was born February 2, 1943 in Belleville Kansas, Peggy departed this earthly life August 6th, 2024 at her home in Abilene. Peggy had recently talked about seeing her parents Viola and Virgil White in heaven.

Peggy had two older sisters, Phyllis and Barbara. Peggy was united in marriage on May 27, 1962 to Robert Sorensen. Peggy and Bob lived in Emporia for four years. In 1966 Abilene became their new home. The last several years Peggy's entertainment was taking day trips in the car. Many times she commented “isn’t Abilene a nice town”.Peggy was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, her in-laws, aunts and uncles. She is survived by her husband Robert, nephews and cousins. 

Peggy loved nature, especially birds and animals, Peggy and Bob lived on their “hobby farm” by Brown’s Park for 43 years where Peggy enjoyed her vegetable and flower gardens. Bob and Peggy were married for 62 years and 2 months, Bob will truly miss his partner and companion. Cremation has been selected and there will be no local services. Burial of the cremains will be at a later date in Belleville, Kansas.

&nbsp; SGM (RET) Ronald Wayne Eckhardt, 81, of Junction City, Kansas, went to his peace with the Almighty on August 5, 2024, in his home. He was born on September 23, 1942, in Billings, Montana, the eldest child of Carl and Olinda (Hilderman) Eckhardt. He grew up in Billings and attended local schools, graduating from Billings Senior High School in 1960. He attended Eastern Montana College (MSU-Billings).

Ron entered the regular Army and retired from active duty on May 1, 1987, with the rank of Sergeant Major with 23 years of service. He married the love of his life, In Suk Kim, on August 26, 1975, in Seoul, Korea.

During his military career, he was stationed at several U.S. bases, as well as stations in Germany four times, Korea two times and Vietnam three times. He was awarded numerous medals and decorations including the Bronze Star Medal with two Oak Leaf clusters, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal with two Oak Leaf clusters, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, and seven Good Conduct Medals. During and after his military service, he attended State University of New York - Albany and Kansas State University. After his military retirement, he was employed as an Information Systems Business Analyst, Kansas Farm Bureau Services, Manhattan, Kansas, until his retirement in 2003. He has lived in Junction City since 1982.He was a long standing member of the American Legion Post #45.

Ron enjoyed his German-Russian heritage and extended Eckhardt/Hilderman family history. He continued his genealogy research into his retirement. Most importantly, he was especially proud of his wife, children and grandchildren. Survivors include his loving wife, In Suk Eckhardt of the home; son, Kevin Eckhardt of Scottsdale, Arizona; daughter, Erika (Jeremy) McAdams of Ankeny, Iowa; three grandchildren, Copeland Eckhardt, Harper McAdams, and Dylan McAdams; sister, Diane Tatro of Tucumcari, New Mexico.

Jean had various jobs: Nurses Aid, Maternity Nurses Aid, K-mart, Walmart, Alco, Ice Cream Factory, Food-For-Less, Daycare Worker for United Methodist Church and Dollar Tree Cashier for 13 years. She and her husband were members of the United Methodist Church and members of the Masonic Lodge. She belonged to the Order of Eastern Star

.Jean was loved dearly by her children and many people in Junction City. She maintained her kindness, grace, compassion, appreciation of beauty, love of family and friends, and expressed gratitude for her long life, full of wonderful and varied experiences. She cared about the needs of others before her own needs. She lived her life as a caregiver. She was such a wonderful, graceful and dignified woman. She enjoyed driving, traveling, dancing, laughing, and diamond painting. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Ball; parents, Sherin and Mary Grove; brother, Gaylord Grove and sister, Shirley Hodges. A visitation will take place on Friday, August 30, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. followed by a funeral ceremony at the Johnson Funeral Home. A graveside service at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery with full military honors will follow.

Red was born in Cave City, Kentucky to Kenneth Oldham and Alegra Boyd on August 19, 1947.After graduating from high school, Red joined the U.S. Army in 1965, where he was stationed in West Germany until 1968. During this time a buddy of his introduced him to his future wife, Brenda of Mount Union, Pennsylvania. After dating Brenda for several months, they were married on July 4, 1969. After several years, Red rejoined the U.S. Army in 1974, where he had several duty stations to include: Fort Meade, Maryland; Fort Ritchie, Maryland; Wiesbaden and Wuerzburg, West Germany and finally Fort Riley, Kansas. Through his many duty stations he enjoyed coaching men's basketball and youth sports to include both basketball and football

.Red and Brenda had two sons, Marcus and Travis. They enjoyed going to many sporting events with their father which continued throughout their adulthood. Red retired from the U.S. Army, July of 1989. After his military service he began working with kids in juvenile detention. In 1999, he began working as a prisoner transport officer and continued until completely retiring in 2013. After this second retirement, Red could be found enjoying one of his favorite hobbies, fishing.

Red and Brenda had five grandchildren whom he loved and supported with many of their school and sporting events.

He was preceded by his mother and father, two brothers, and one sister. His memory will be carried on by his loving wife of 55 years, Brenda, two sons; five grandchildren, Nikki, Lloyd, Elijah, Angel, and Ashad; one great-grandson, Atlas and a host of young men he welcomed into his family. Family is what he lived by. If you had the chance to spend time with him, you would know how much he cared. The laughs, jokes, and the occasional cuss words all came from the heart. He will truly be missed.&nbsp;&nbsp;

&nbsp; SFC (RET) Clarence Ray Thompson, 92, of Junction City, Kansas passed away on August 4, 2024, at Via Christi Village, Manhattan, Kansas. Ray was born on August 12, 1931, to Clarence H. Thompson and Edna (West) Thompson at Montezuma, Indiana. There he graduated from Frankfurt High School. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the United States Army on January 10, 1949, at Camp Breckenridge, Kentucky. He served in Berlin, Korea, and Vietnam. While in the military, he attended the University of Michigan for two years. He retired from the military on February 28, 1980 at Fort Riley, Kansas after 24 years of active military service.

Ray worked civil service for 13 years in the housing office on Fort Riley as an inspector. He also volunteered at the Irwin Army Community Hospital as the liaison for the American Red Cross, Fort Riley for 22 years. He was a member of NARFE, DAV, VVA, VFW, American Legion, Union Lodge #7 in Junction City, 40/8, Isis Shrine of Junction City/Salina, Fort Riley Shrine Club of J.C. Mini Wheels Classic Car, and The Open Door.

Ray earned many awards during his lifetime. Some of these awards include three times Red Cross Volunteer of the Year Award (One time from General Hamm), Red Cross 2016: Tribute to Hero's Lifetime Achievement Award, Commanders Award for Outstanding Public Service 2008, Multiple awards from the Red Cross and 1st IN DIV, and in 2022, The Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award.

Ray is survived by two daughters, Lori Dodd and Kim Holton of Jacksonville, Florida; one son, Steven Thompson; one brother, Paul Thompson of Surprise, Arizona; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews; Debbi and Jack Freeman of Junction City, Kansas and their girls who remained Ray's friend throughout his years living in Junction City. He is preceded by his loving parents; four brothers, Harold, Charles, Jimmy, and Chuck Thompson; one sister, Thelma Blizzard; one son, Mark Thompson; one grandson, Bobby Dodd and his loving wife, Margaret Fisher.

Adriana was born on December 4, 1979, to Keith and Johanna Marie (Essex) Johnson in South Carolina. She married her loving husband, James in October 25, 1999, while living in Cleveland, Ohio. They shared 23 years of marriage together and had three sons and two daughters. Being a military spouse, she had to leave her home of Ohio and make a new life with her family in Junction City. 

While living here, she made her home for her family where they shared many memories together. Some favorites to include her famous lemon drops, her contagious smiles, and dance moves. Adriana was a very caring, kindhearted woman who took care of her family. She will be missed by both her loving family and the friends she left behind.

She is survived by her husband, James; three sons, Taevon Washington, Arrion Washington, and Kyng Johnson; one daughter, Gabriel Washington; one sister, Quiana Essex; one brother, Michael and many other loving family and friends. Archie was born March 2, 1943, in Brockton, Massachusetts the son of Arthur W. and Constance (Rodrigues) Moore, Sr. Archie served twenty four and a half years in the United States Army. He served two tours in Vietnam and spent time in Germany. He retired at the rank of Master Sergeant. 

Archie was awarded many awards, honors, and special recognitions for his service. He received his associates degree from Central Texas College.&nbsp; Archie started his sobriety journey December 29, 1985. He was sober thirty eight years, six months, twenty seven days for a total of 14,089 days. He helped hundreds of people with their sobriety walk throughout the years all across the world. On a local level, Archie spent many hours leading many Alcoholic Anonymous Meetings in Junction City, Geary County and Fort Riley.

Over the years, Archie was a die hard sports fan. He rooted on all teams from Boston. He proudly supported his Boston sports teams by wearing appropriate swag and sporting their flag on his car.He had a love for bowling, fishing and running. He would always tease people he was training for the Boston Marathon. He was a known collector. His collection included coins, stamps, sports cards and sports memorabilia. Archie was a charitable giver to numerous charitable organizations. He loved helping people and communicating his love through letters and cards that he would send. He never missed a friend or family members birthday, anniversary or special event.

Archie was known for his sense of humor, smile, kindness and his Bostonian accent. He will be remembered for his quirky phrases, "Oh Yeah" "You Bet Ya" "That's All Right" "That's So Neat" and "Kiddo". He was a father, grandfather, brother and a friend to everyone he met. He had a special relationship with Jamie Dodd that will forever be cherished. &nbsp; Gerald Eugene Duerksen, age 81, of Abilene, Kansas, passed away on July 25, 2024, at Village Manor Nursing Home surrounded by his loving family. 

Born on September 16, 1942, in Hillsboro, Kansas Gerald lived a life marked by his commitment to his faith and family. After graduating from Lehigh Rural High School, Gerald began farming and raising livestock outside of Lehigh until 1983. Life circumstances then took him on a different path as he returned to college to pursue a degree in social work from Bethel College. 

His new career as a social worker for SRS in Abilene and surrounding communities allowed him to touch the lives of many children and families, making a significant impact through his compassionate service.

On January 10, 1975, Gerald married Jane Littrell in McPherson, Kansas. This union joined Gerald’s daughters and son with Jane’s daughter and son. They added to their family welcoming two daughters of their own. Their marriage was a source of great joy and companionship throughout their 49 years together. Gerald was a member of First Christian Church Abilene where he found community and continued to grow his faith. He especially enjoyed meeting with other men from the church for weekly coffee - a tradition that brought him much happiness and camaraderie. 

Gerald dedicated his life to Christ at a young age and frequently told his children and grandchildren that developing a relationship with Christ and accepting him as Lord and Savior was the most important decision of their lives. His love and commitment to his family were evident in everything he did. He spent many hours in gyms, on ball fields, tennis courts, and golf courses attending as many games or programs of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren as he was able.

Gerald didn’t know a stranger and was known for his great sense of humor. He delighted in ornery jokes and ribbing that would often bring laughter and joy to those around him. His legacy of hard work, faith, and compassion will continue to inspire those who knew and loved him. He is survived by his beloved wife, Jane Duerksen; his children: Shannon (Todd) Davis, Sherri Duerksen, Craig (Megan) Duerksen, Jeff (Diane) Lindteigen, Angie (Rick) Vlasin, Rebecca (Kris) Kobiskie, and Stephanie (Kyle) Becker; his 15 grandchildren (Hunter, Morgan, Lauren, Scott, Sean, Talby, Annie, Meghan, Kris, Marcus, Elliott, Matigan, Kaleb, Kyson, Kolt); and his 3 great-grandchildren (Brailen, Landrie, Lowry) as well as his brother, Gary (Janet) Duerksen and sister, Laura Bishop;. Leon White

Marvin was born on September 8, 1965, in Axtell, KS, the son of Raymond and Dorothy (Walters) Deters. He attended schools in Seneca graduating from Nemaha Valley High School, Highland Community College and Kansas State University.

On April 25, 1992, he married the love of his life, Danita Goeckel, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Hanover, KS.

He began working at Reeves-Wiedeman in 1996, working his way up to branch manager in 2005. He enjoyed working with Jim and Kevin on the day-to-day operations of the branch and helping everyone that came through the doors. For him: RW, his co-workers, and customers felt like a second family.

He was proud of his sons, Ryan and Eric, and was involved in their lives through Boy Scouts, coaching, school events and sporting events, and teaching many life lessons.

Marvin was a member of Seven Dolors Catholic Church and an active member of the Knights of Columbus. Recently, he was honored to become a 4th Degree Knight.

He was preceded in death by his parents, infant sister Connie, grandparents, father and mother in-law, Leo and Mary (Martin) Goeckel.

Survivors include his wife, Danita, of the home in Manhattan, his sons: Ryan Deters of Lenexa and Eric Deters of Roeland Park; Marvin was close to his brothers Tom Deters (Julene) of Baileyville, Wayne Deters (Stacy) of Springfield, MO, and Vern Deters, of Seneca; his other siblings Carl Deters (Frannie), of Carbondale, Kathleen Houser, of Topeka, Susan Huninghake (Galen), of Baileyville, Geraldine Staley (Steve), of Centralia and Betty Deters, of Seneca; his in-laws, Dianne Garber (Chuck), of Hanover, Connie Ronnebaum (Alan), of Axtell, Ron Goeckel, of Hanover, Phyllis Ohlde (Andrew), of Linn and Lisa Schwarz (Stuart), of Wamego; and his many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was an avid Kansas City Chiefs, Royals, and Kansas Jayhawks fan. He would even tolerate the Kansas State Wildcats for his wife, family, and friends. He was a family man with a big heart, a sports guru, enjoyed seeking a good bargain, playing cards or board games, a handyman, had an excellent memory and math skills, and was an informative weatherman.

His kindness and generosity touched the lives of many, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

The family will greet friends during a visitation from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Friday August 2, 2024 at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home in Manhattan. The Parish Vigil with the Rosary will be held at 7:00p.m. at the funeral home following the visitation.

Long time Manhattan resident, Leland A. Moshier, “Mo” 105, died at Good Shepherd Homecare and Hospice on July 21, 2024.

Mr. Moshier was born on April 25, 1919, in Manhattan, KS. The second of ten children.

He enlisted in the Army when World War II started and was on Omaha Beach on D-Day, Normandy, France.

He met his future wife, Kathleen McNeill, in North Carolina, after his discharge from the military. They were married on September 12, 1946, in Manhattan, KS.

He worked as a plumber and pipefitter in Manhattan and for several years in Columbia, Missouri. Leland was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Manhattan, and the American Legion and VFW in Manhattan.

Leland was preceded in death by his wife Kathleen, his parents Elsie May Hanlin and George L. Moshier, and eight brothers and sisters.

He is survived by one sister, Mary Lou Little and his niece Barbara Anderson and her husband Bill of Randolph, plus many other nieces and nephews.

The family will greet friends during a visitation from 7:00 until 8:00p.m. Tuesday July 30, 2024, at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home in Manhattan.

Gary Francis Collette; son of Ronnel and Phylis Collette, passed away peacefully in his home on June 22, 2024 in Manhattan, Kansas. Gary was born on September 2, 1949 to Ronnel and Phillis Collette.

Gary was proceeded in death by his mother and father, Ronnel Sr. and Phylis Collette, his brother Brian, sister Joyce, son William "Billy", brother-in-law Steve, ex-wife Lisa and granddaughter Sage.&nbsp;

He is survived by his siblings; Larry, Jerry, Mary-Beth, Kayanne, Linda, Mark, Ronnel Junior, and Judy. He is also survived by his sons Darrin, Randy, Tony and his daughter Rosa Walker; his grand-children Hannah, Parker, Noah, Brecklyn, Carli, Haven, Alexa, Desmand, Freddy, Lyndon, Nathan and Brian; his great-grandchildren Carter, Alaycia, Becket, and Ember.&nbsp;

Gary will be remembered for his honorable service in the military from 1969-1971, during the war in Vietnam.

He was a father, father-in-law, grandfather, and great grandfather.

Gary also spent his time here on Earth as a ranch hand, restaurant owner, meat packing plant worker, Salvation Army volunteer bell ringer, and a Santa Clause. But most of all, he will be remembered as a giver, great friend to others, especially if they were a stranger on the street.&nbsp;

Gary Francis Collette

&nbsp; Kenneth (Kenny) Charles Longhofer, 78, of rural Chapman, Kansas, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2024. He was born on July 22, 1946, in Herington, Kansas, to Kenneth and Betty Longhofer. Kenny was a 1964 graduate of Dickinson County Community High School.

Kenny had a deep passion for farming, dedicating his entire life caring for his homestead south of Chapman. For more than 30 years, he proudly served the Logan Township as Clerk while providing road maintenance and repairs (known as “Maintainer Man” among his friends and family). He enjoyed traveling to visit family and friends, often incorporating new restaurants, museums, and historical sites in his adventures. 

Kenny was an avid reader and enjoyed music and growing flowers, taking the most pride in his hollyhocks. He was known for his gift of gab, long-winded stories, and sense of humor, always finding an excuse to visit the local Coop to catch up on the latest happenings. 

Kenny is survived by his wife of 54 years, Melody; daughters Beth, Shawnee (Gayle Worley), and Kerry Patterson (Darrell); brother Keith (Donna); and sister Rita (Steve Crossett); and his furry grandkids Hank, Jersey, Holly, Bella, Nyx, and Moxie. He was preceded in death by his parents Kennth and Betty Longhofer.

The family extends their gratitude to those who ensured Kenny’s harvest and fall field preparations were completed. The family also wishes to extend their gratitude to Kenny’s caregivers at Abilene Memorial Health System, Home Health and Hospice of Dickinson County, Chapman Valley Manor, and Lindsey Brummer.

For more than 30 years, he proudly served the Logan Township as Clerk while providing road maintenance and repairs (known as “Maintainer Man” among his friends and family). He enjoyed traveling to visit family and friends, often incorporating new restaurants, museums, and historical sites in his adventures. Kenny was an avid reader and enjoyed music and growing flowers, taking the most pride in his hollyhocks. He was known for his gift of gab, long-winded stories, and sense of humor, always finding an excuse to visit the local Coop to catch up on the latest happenings. Kenny is survived by his wife of 54 years, Melody; daughters Beth, Shawnee (Gayle Worley), and Kerry Patterson (Darrell); brother Keith (Donna); and sister Rita (Steve Crossett); and his furry grandkids Hank, Jersey, Holly, Bella, Nyx, and Moxie. He was preceded in death by his parents Kennth and Betty Longhofer.The family extends their gratitude to those who ensured Kenny’s harvest and fall field preparations were completed. The family also wishes to extend their gratitude to Kenny’s caregivers at Abilene Memorial Health System, Home Health and Hospice of Dickinson County, Chapman Valley Manor, and Lindsey Brummer.
