Eleanor Joyce (Flagler) Morlong of Manhattan, Kansas formerly of Clay Center, Kansas passed away September 6, 2024 at the Good Shepherd Homecare and Hospice House in Manhattan. She was born October 4, 1940, on the family farm in Collyer, Kansas to Herman and Myrtle (Reeder) Flagler.
Always known as Joyce, she attended WaKeeney grade schools and later graduated from Trego Community High School. She then attended Emporia State University for 2 years.
On July 5, 1959, she was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Orrie (Ritchie) Morlong. They were blessed with two daughters: Pamela Renee and Kimberly Michelle. Joyce was a loving wife and mother where she was a homemaker until the girls left home.
In 1982, she went to work with her husband in his optometric practice where she was the office manager for 23 years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Kansas Optometric Auxiliary, Lioness Club, and many bridge clubs. She greatly enjoyed camping, boating, sporting events, dancing, playing cards, gardening, cooking, playing the piano, and most of all loved her KU Jayhawks. She spent countless hours watching KU basketball and cheering them on.
She is survived by her daughters, Pamela (Tim) McNeil of Sapulpa, Oklahoma and Kimberly (Jim) McDiffett of Manhattan, Kansas, and her four grandchildren: Adam McDiffett (Jennifer), Joshua McNeil, Michael (Tara) McDiffett and Rebecca (JJ) Lane. They were a source of great joy and family traditions. She is also survived by her 5 great-grandchildren: Jordan McDiffett, Briar McNeil, Easton McDiffett, Ella Lane and Logan Lane, plus many other nieces and one nephew.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 58 years, Ritch; siblings Kay, Larry and Worley, along with a niece, and several other beloved relatives and friends.
Honoring Joyce’s wishes, a private ceremony will be held at a later date.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the First United Methodist Church of Clay Center or the Clay County Health Department.
