Claude Calvin Borger Jr., 75, of Wamego, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday (July 18, 2023) at his home in Wamego.

Born October 19, 1947 in Walnutport, Pennsylvania, Junior was the son of Claude Calvin and Naomi (Strausser) Borger Sr. &nbsp;He married Sandra K. Kobiskie on January 10, 1970 in Wamego, Kansas. &nbsp;She survives.

Mr. Borger served his country in the U. S. Army.

Junior enjoyed watching T.V., hunting and fishing and had a special place in his heart for animals. He loved spending time with his family.

Junior was employed at Steel &amp; Pipe for 39 years, retiring as a supervisor in 2009.

Survivors include his wife, Sandy; two sons, Keith Borger of Roeland Park, KS and Jonathan Borger (Lisa) of Berryton, KS; four grandchildren, Bradley Borger (Taylor); Tabitha Gilbreth, Chelsea Green (Chris) and Holden Green; five great grandchildren, Makayla Holloway, Alexis Holloway, Kingstyn Holloway, Ava Nelson and Amaya Nelson and a great grandchild due in just a couple of weeks. &nbsp;Also surviving are three sisters, Marietta Love (Arling) of Lehighton, PA, Sharon Ross (Charles) of Weissport, PA and Brenda Borger (Theresa) of Allentown, PA; two brothers, Melvin Borger (Linda) and Ray Borger (Sue) both of Whitehall, PA; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Junior was preceded in death by his parents.

Casey James Moore, age 30 of Hammond, Louisiana passed away on Thursday, July 13, 2023, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He was born on Friday, December 11, 1992, in Manhattan, Kansas. The son of Laura Lamoureux Moore, Hammond, and Gregg Moore, Austin, TX. Casey attended Holy Ghost Catholic School in Hammond and graduated from Ponchatoula High School.

Casey was a bartender and picked up other odd jobs. He was known for his sharp intellect, unending curiosity, and incredible compassion. Even when he had little, he always wanted to help those who had less. He loved anime and fantasy games that required strategy, like Magic. He had a passion for music and by the time an artist was ‘popular’, he had moved on to uncover the next.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, James and Mary Mullinix Lamoureux; and his paternal grandparents, James and Bessie Rose Moore.

Casey is survived by his parents; his sister and brother, Madison and Braden Greer; uncle, Anthony Lamoureux; aunt, Angie Mullinix and his grandmother, Diane Mullinix Lamoureux, and the Greer family.

Deryl Dean Marsell, 86, of Salina, Kan., passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2023. He was born on June 25, 1937, in Green, Kan., to George and Edna (Lowry) Marsell.

Deryl graduated high school in Ada, Kan., and attended Fort Hays State University before enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1956. He was a career federal employee and retired from the U.S. Postal Service in Springfield, Mo. In retirement, he volunteered at CoxHealth Medical Center for 22 years. He and his wife, Mary, loved to travel, seeing 48 of the 50 states. His idea of fun consisted of playing all types of games, working on crossword puzzles, playing golf, and dancing and singing with Mary. He was a BIG KU basketball fan and loved the St. Louis Cardinals too. His great sense of humor will be missed the most.

Survivors include his sons, Darren Marsell (Kris), of Lorraine, Kan., Doug Marsell (Karen), of Russell, Kan., and Kent Pack, of Kansas City, Kan.; daughters, Rhonda Carryer (Robert), of Ogden, Kan., and Kim Pack, of California; 16 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary (Skala) Marsell; and sisters, Mildred Russell, Wanda Andrews, and her husband, John.

Ronald Hal Stuewe, 81, of Alma, Kansas, died peacefully at his home on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, following a battle with Pancreatic cancer. &nbsp;He was a long-time resident of the community.

Ron was born March 21, 1942, in Los Angeles, California, the son of Robert and Joan (Whittenburg) Stuewe. &nbsp;He graduated in 1960 from Alma High School. &nbsp;Ron then served in the United States Navy on the U.S.S. Lexington as a Boatswain’s Mate, a position known as the “heart of every ship”.

After his time in the military, Ron married Patricia Ann Guth on November 30, 1963, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Alma. After over fifty-nine years together, Patty survives at their home.

Ron retired from Goodyear Tire &amp; Rubber Company in Topeka in 2001 after working there for 35 years. &nbsp;He built tires for earth movers and radial trucks and was also a Union Steward for the Local Rubber Workers Union. &nbsp;There was no question that Ron was a dedicated and hardworking man. &nbsp;He enjoyed the outdoors and doing things like camping, cutting wood, water skiing, canoeing, kayaking and scuba diving. &nbsp;He was an avid bird watcher and especially loved his purple Martins. &nbsp;He kept busy taking care of his beautiful flowers, garden and lawn. &nbsp;Ron also loved traveling, old cars and music, especially the older top 40’s hits. &nbsp;He enjoyed playing cards and games and was a big K-State fan.

Ron is survived by his three sons, Curtis Stuewe (Sherely), San Diego, California, Mike Stuewe, Alma, and Craig Stuewe (Debra), Andover; his two grandsons, Alex Stuewe (Sarah), Wichita and Braden Stuewe, Manhattan; and his sister, Bobbie Jo Alberty, Claremore, Oklahoma. &nbsp;Ron was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Robin Dieter, and brothers-in-law, Bill Alberty and Steve Dieter.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 14, 2023, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Alma, Kansas. &nbsp;Father Mike Peterson will be officiating. &nbsp;The family will greet friends on Thursday from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the church hall. &nbsp;They suggest memorial contributions to Holy Family Catholic Church, The American Legion, or Elara Hospice, and those may be sent in care of Campanella and Stewart Funeral Home.

Gary “Gabe” George Shandy, 85, Milford, Kan., passed away on July 9, 2023, in his home. He was born December 15, 1937, in Milford to George Payne and Dorothy Emily (Moyer) Shandy. The third of four children, he grew up in the “old town” of Milford, and he often recalled fond memories and stories of his childhood adventures with his friends and siblings. He graduated from Milford High School in 1957. He married Loretta Joy Luthi on September 29, 1962. Together they started a lifelong journey filled with love, friendship, and partnership.

Gary’s strong work ethic was evident early on. Starting as a young child, he regularly joined his father on fuel and oil deliveries to businesses, residences, and farms throughout Geary and Clay counties. After returning from Kansas National Guard training, he purchased and operated his father’s business, G. Shandy Oil Company, on through the mid-1970s. Gary started farming when he was 12 and continued farming in Geary, Clay, Dickinson, and Riley counties throughout his life. Farming was not just a job but his calling in life. He was proud that through his efforts, he helped feed the world.

Besides being a successful farmer, Gary schooled himself for most challenges he encountered throughout life. He moved houses when Milford Lake was being built, fixed his own farm equipment and vehicles, mastered HVAC and electrical systems, welded anything from hay trailers to wonderful sleds for his children, and was an accomplished finish carpenter, to name just a few of his many skills. A true Jack of all trades and master of many, he was the go-to man for helping others -- whether it was something fixed or welded, the use of a tool, his shop, or a piece of equipment, a tractor-tow off the beach, removal of snow from Milford streets so people could get to work, the literal coat off his back, or the gift of a few dollars. Gary never knew a stranger, and he enjoyed sharing his knowledge, pleasant greetings, and lively banter. He loved to make people laugh and smile. The local coffee shop and the campground were favorite places to meet new people and catch up with old friends.

Although he never considered himself retired, Gary and Joy enjoyed taking car trips, seeing the nation to all four corners. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, particularly his grandchildren. He was thrilled to see four of them graduate this year.

Gary was a lifelong member and former deacon of the Milford Congregational Church, a member of the Milford City Council for eight years, mayor of Milford for four years, and a long-serving volunteer of the Milford Fire Department.

He leaves behind his loving wife and partner of nearly 61 years, Loretta Joy; his daughter Peggy Shandy Lane and husband, Winter, of Olathe, Kan.; daughter Dr. Dianna Shandy and husband Dr. David Power, of St. Paul, Minn.; son Gregory Shandy of Milford, and his beloved grandchildren Rhetta and Oran Power, Merritt Lane, and Kailee and Tabitha Wallace. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, lifelong friends, and his cats, Buddy and Norman.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Kenneth (his first wife Iris Farlow and second wife Leona Kidd Hanson), and Ronald (BettyGene White), and sister Joan Martin (Bill), niece Annette Shandy Hardman, nephew Kyle Martin, and great-niece Rachel Shandy.

Visitation will be Friday, July 14, 2023, from 5:00 until 7:30 p.m. at Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley, Kan.

Funeral services will be Saturday, July 15, 2023, 10:30 a.m. at Wakefield United Methodist Church with Pastor Dirk Westerman officiating. Following the service, burial will be held at the Milford Cemetery, with a luncheon back at the Methodist Church.

Charles Ray “C. R.” Patrick, 46, of Wamego, Kansas, passed away on Monday (July 3, 2023) at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka, Kansas.

Born March 17, 1977 in Vincennes, Indiana, C. R. was the son of Steven Wayne and Pamela Raye Stiemel Patrick. &nbsp;He married Lee Ann Roe on July 4, 2001 in Korea. &nbsp;She survives.

An outdoor enthusiast, C. R. enjoyed fishing and was an avid hunter of all types of fowl, especially duck hunting. &nbsp;He also enjoyed gaming, spending time with his friends on his X Box. &nbsp;C. R. and Lee Ann loved traveling the world together.

C. R. served his country for 22 years in the U. S. Army, retiring as a First Sergeant. &nbsp;During his career, he had deployments in Bosnia, Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan.

Survivors include his wife, Lee Ann; two children, Sean Patrick of Wamego and Kianna McGregor (Tristan) of Littleton, CO; his mother, Pamela Raye Patrick of Washington, IN; two sisters in law, Libra Houser of Marysville, WA and Carla Melindez (Lino) of Waco, TX; several nephews; and his beloved service dog, Stevie.

&nbsp;C. R. was preceded in death by his father, Steven Wayne; and his niece, Elizabeth Houser.

Memorial services will be held Monday afternoon (July 24, 2023) at 1:30 p.m. at Campanella &amp; Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego. Military Honors will be performed by the U. S. Army Funeral Honors Detail and the Wamego American Legion Post No. 172 following the services at the funeral home.

The family will meet with friends on Monday afternoon (July 24, 2023) from Noon until the time of services at the funeral home in Wamego.

Army, retiring as a First Sergeant. &nbsp;During his career, he had deployments in Bosnia, Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan.Survivors include his wife, Lee Ann; two children, Sean Patrick of Wamego and Kianna McGregor (Tristan) of Littleton, CO; his mother, Pamela Raye Patrick of Washington, IN; two sisters in law, Libra Houser of Marysville, WA and Carla Melindez (Lino) of Waco, TX; several nephews; and his beloved service dog, Stevie.&nbsp;C. R. was preceded in death by his father, Steven Wayne; and his niece, Elizabeth Houser.Memorial services will be held Monday afternoon (July 24, 2023) at 1:30 p.m. at Campanella &amp; Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego. Donald Joseph “Pops” Meister, age 74 of Blue Rapids, passed away Wednesday, July 5, 2023 at his residence.

He was born on December 3, 1948 in El Cerrito, California, the son of Edward Joseph and Mary Eileen (Sullivan) Meister.

He married Virginia Hughes in 1978.&nbsp; She preceded him in death in 2005.

Pops served in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam and worked as a Pressman for the San Francisco Chronicle.&nbsp; He was a member of the E.C.V. and Hogs (Harley Davidson) and enjoyed riding his motorcycle and shooting pool.&nbsp; He loved spending time with his grandkids.

He is survived by two daughters, Bethena Marcotte of Blue Rapids and Cinde Earnest (Ken) of Red Bluff, California; one sister, Maureen Rosser of Kingman, Arizona; six grandchildren, Rick Seleska, Bob Seleska (Kim), Chris Lewis (Ashley), Kelly Hugart, Patty Hugart and Becky Hugart; many great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Robert Meister.

Cremation is planned with a Celebration of Life service to be held at a later date.

Donald Joseph “Pops” Meister

Thomas William Skinner, 90, died Friday July 7, 2023, at Meadowlark Hills in Manhattan, Kansas where he has been residing since 2021.

He was born January 14, 1933, in Manhattan, Kansas, the son of Joseph William Skinner and Marjorie (Fisher) Skinner. &nbsp;He graduated from Manhattan High School (1951), Kansas State University (1955) and Chevrolet Dealer-Son School (1959).

He married Susan Rose Skinner July 27, 1954. &nbsp;They met the first day of freshman orientation at KSU and went on to celebrate 50 years of marriage prior to her death (2005). While she remained the love of his life, he was blessed to again find love with Neva Anderson with whom he enjoyed 12 years of companionship. &nbsp;

Following graduation from K-State he served as a Lieutenant in the United States Air Force (1955-1957) in Little Rock, Arkansas and in the United States Air Force Reserves at Forbes Airforce Base in Topeka, Kansas until 1965. &nbsp;

He was a long-time prominent Clay Center businessman and community leader. &nbsp;He began learning the automotive business as a teenager when he pumped gas and cleaned cars for Brewer Motor Company in Manhattan Kansas (1949-1951). &nbsp;He joined his father in Skinner Motor Company, following the purchase of the Chevrolet franchise in Clay Center (1952). &nbsp;Upon fulfilling his military obligation, he returned to Clay Center to rejoin his father as a full-time salesman and later became President (1969). &nbsp;Skinner Motors served the community for 66 years. He founded the Clay Center New Car Dealers Association, represented the Kansas Dealers Action Council on Chevrolet’s Dealer Council (1970-1979). &nbsp;He was appointed by Governor Robert Bennett to the Dealer Licensing Board serving as Chairman (1977-1980). &nbsp;He was president of the Rocky Mountain Midwest Chevrolet Dealers Group and the Kansas Motor Car Dealers Association (1981-1982), and a National Automobile Dealers Association member. He received the Chevrolet Quality Salesman Award (1963). &nbsp;In 1983 he was recognized as the Kansas Quality Dealer of the Year and went on to be one of 62 dealers nationwide to receive Time Magazine’s Quality Dealer Award recognizing outstanding new car dealers in America. He was appointed by Attorney General Robert Stephen to the AutoCap Board to review dealer complaints (1983-85). &nbsp;Governor Mike Hayden appointed him Director of Motor Vehicles in the Kansas Department of Revenue (1987-1991).

He was president of the of the Clay Center Chamber of Commerce (1966) and Clay Center Rotary International Club (1968) where he was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow. &nbsp;He was appointed by Governor Bennet to the Judicial Salary Committee (1975-78). &nbsp;He was a charter member of the Clay Center Loyal Order of Elks and 32nd degree member of the Masonic Lodge. He was a trustee of the Clay Center Carnegie Library. He served as director of the Colombia Savings and Loan, Home Federal Savings and Loan, and Northwest Financial Savings and Loan Boards. He was an avid golfer, serving as President of the Clay Center Country Club Holding Board (1975-1979), president of men’s golf and past chairman of the Little Saint Andrews Golf Tournament. &nbsp;Along with his wife Susan, they helped to organize the Clay Center Alcohol Rehabilitation and Treatment Program for referral and assistance for those in need. &nbsp;At the time, Clay Center had no public program of assistance for persons living with the disease. &nbsp;He later described this work in providing people a path to follow and witnessing their recovery as one of his proudest accomplishments.

His roots in KSU remained important throughout life. &nbsp;As an avid Wildcat fan, he was a patron and donor to many university programs. &nbsp;He served as a KSU Foundation trustee, Ahearn Scholarship Fund member, KSU Alumni Association life member and as president of the Clay County Wildcat Club (1972-78). &nbsp;He was President of the KSU Sigma Alpha Epsilon Alumni Association where he was awarded the Phoenix Award (1981)&nbsp;

He received the Future Farmers of America Outstanding Service Award (1966) and recognition from the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (1980). &nbsp;He sponsored Junior Golf, girls’ softball, Boy Scouts of America and American Legion Baseball. &nbsp;For many years he chaired the local Red Cross Drive and co-chaired the United Way Campaign. He was a member of the US Highway 24 Improvement Committee organized to keep business in local communities. He organized the Milford Lake Association and spearheaded the “Play-A-Day” Midway USA campaign for which his work was recognized by Governor William Avery. &nbsp;

As the grandson of two ministers, his faith was always important to him. &nbsp;He was a member and trustee of the Clay Center United Methodist Church where he served on the administrative board and as Methodist Men’s Club president.

Throughout life he was active in Republican politics serving as county chairman for U.S. Senator Nancy Kassebaum, Governor Robert Bennet, Lt. Governor Dave Owen, and Senator Ross Doyen. He was chairman of Motor Car Dealers for Owen (1982) and Hayden (1986) and active with Car and Truck Dealers for Dole (1980). &nbsp;He was a delegate to multiple district and state Republican conventions. &nbsp;He and his wife Susan founded the Clay County Federation of Teenage Republicans (1971-1977).

He took great pride and joy in his family. Survivors include his two sons Michael Skinner, Junction City and Mark Skinner and husband James Matheson, Washington DC; three grandchildren Emily Schmidt and husband Mark, North Newton, Kansas, Alan Skinner and wife Sierra Hostetler, Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Brian Skinner, North Newton, Kansas; four great grandchildren Zachary and Kaitlin Schmidt, and Gabe and Luka Skinner; Niece and nephews Amy Button Renz and husband Allen, Manhattan, Kansas, Dan Button and wife Cheryl Lippert, Cape Canaveral Florida, and John Button and wife Heather, Jackson, Tennessee and numerous great nieces and nephews. Neva Anderson, Manhattan, and her three daughters DeeJo Miller and husband Bob, Gardner, Julie Shaffer and husband Jeff, Decatur, Illinois, and Tamala Shaffer and husband Armstrong, London, England were an important part of his family. &nbsp;

Supporting his two sons living with severe hemophilia, along with care and advocacy to support others was a lifelong passion. &nbsp;Memorials may be made to the Susan Skinner Memorial Fund World Federation of Hemophilia U.S.A. Ronald D. Dunn, age 86, died July 5, 2023, at the Linn Community Nursing Home in Linn, KS. He was born to Henry and Martha (McMahan) Dunn, on August 28, 1936, in Clay Center, KS.

 Ronald grew up on a farm near Idana. He was a Clay Center Community High School graduate. He married Delores Brown on February 2, 1957. She preceded him in death on March 3, 2022. Ronald wore many hats throughout his life and always stayed busy. He operated the road grater in rural areas, was a city employee for several years at the power plant and later picked up late shifts at Hutchinson Maywrath after farming during the day among other jobs. Ronald spent most of his life farming. At the request of his father, Ronald and Delores moved to the family farm to help with the farming operation. He also did custom cuts and baled hay around the surrounding area for rural farmers. Ronald and Delores moved into Clay Center in 1981.

 Ronald was a huge sports fan. He coached basketball for a girl’s league in Morganville for a few years and played baseball in Idana and Abilene. His love of sports did not end there, he enjoyed golfing, bowling, ice skating, and roller skating. Ronald’s children could always count on him to drop everything and be there to help them with anything at any time. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. You would usually always see a smile from ear to ear when they were around.

 In addition to his wife Ronald is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jack and Dale Dunn; sisters, Betty James, Irene Sharp, Maxine Greenlee, Dorothy Tague and Jean Dunn

Ronald D. Dunn

Robert Eugene “Gene” Thompson was born to Henry Earl Thompson and Alma (Istas) Thompson on March 5, 1933 near Clifton, Kansas and passed away July 5, 2023 at the Sunset Home in Concordia. He was a 1952 graduate of Clay Center High School. He was united in marriage to Marjorie Suzanne Regnier on January 9, 1955, a loving relationship that would last almost 63 years. Following their honeymoon, Gene received his draft notice and served in the United States Army for four years.&nbsp;

Gene grew up on the farm and learned a strong work ethic which he would exemplify throughout his life. He was gifted mechanically and especially enjoyed welding and wood working. Gene and Suzanne had great hearts for their six children and over 20 foster children who found a loving home with them over the years. He was faithful in his commitment to Christ and involvement in His church, including being a member of the Wesleyan Church in Clay Center for 50 years. He worked for the Farmer’s Union Coop, retiring in 1998 after 35 years of faithful service to farmers in the Clay Center area. Suzanne passed away on January 5, 2018.&nbsp;

On June 18, 2022 Gene married Joan Palmer and they made a warm and loving home in Miltonvale where they attended the Bible Methodist Church. &nbsp; &nbsp;

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Suzanne, son-in-law Dennis Nix, a grandson and a step-grandson. He is survived by his sisters, Arlene Credeur (New Orleans, LA) and Lois (Gary) Nutter, (Concordia) his wife, Joan of the home, and his children: son David and wife Joyce (Manhattan), daughter Peggy Sue Nix (Dewey, OK), son Paul and wife Cory (Thornton, CO), son Walter and wife Rachel (Highlands Ranch, CO), son Rodney and wife Karen (Salina), and daughter Vanessa Thomas (Lawrence), &nbsp;and stepsons Vernon (Cathy) Palmer (Miltonvale) and Kevin (Darnell) Palmer (Concordia), and numerous grandchildren, several step-grand, great-grand and step-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 4-6 PM Friday, July 14, 2023, at Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home in Clay Center.

Funeral Services will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, July 15, 2023, at the Bible Methodist Church in Miltonvale.&nbsp;

Following their honeymoon, Gene received his draft notice and served in the United States Army for four years.&nbsp;Gene grew up on the farm and learned a strong work ethic which he would exemplify throughout his life. He was gifted mechanically and especially enjoyed welding and wood working. Gene and Suzanne had great hearts for their six children and over 20 foster children who found a loving home with them over the years. He was faithful in his commitment to Christ and involvement in His church, including being a member of the Wesleyan Church in Clay Center for 50 years. He worked for the Farmer’s Union Coop, retiring in 1998 after 35 years of faithful service to farmers in the Clay Center area. Suzanne passed away on January 5, 2018.&nbsp;On June 18, 2022 Gene married Joan Palmer and they made a warm and loving home in Miltonvale where they attended the Bible Methodist Church. &nbsp; &nbsp;Gene was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Suzanne, son-in-law Dennis Nix, a grandson and a step-grandson. Ryan Ty Tweady went home to Jesus on July 7, 2023. He was born July 17, 1972 in Topeka, Kansas . Most of Ryan's life was lived in Abilene, Kansas and Elkhorn, Nebraska. he was helped raised by his grandparents Lyle and Betty Engler of rural Abilene.

 He is survived by his mother, Marla Landis (Step-father Ed Landis), brother Tad Tweady and wife Darcy of Chapman, Kansas. Ryan was preceded in death by his father Randal Tweady and brother Randal Whade Tweady. Ryan attended the Chapman school district graduating middle school and moving to Elkhorn, Nebraska. He attended Elkhorn High School graduating in 1990. Upon graduating Ryan wanted to write books and plays. His English Teacher wrote in his year book "I know I will read numerous books you will write". Sadly none of Ryan's dreams came true do to a dreadful disease Huntington's.

 Ryan would want me to express his gratitude to all of those who were so kind and helpful. Just to name a few the Sprinkles who gave Ryan a lift home from the Kwik Shop. I'm thankful that the Kwik Shop was helpful to Ryan also. Justin Amos from the Community Bible Church who sat at the table with Ryan at the dinners on Monday night. A retired school teacher from Abilene that sat with Ryan and helped with his meal. Kelly Cooper who was having a family gathering and Ryan showed up thinking the church was having a meal for the public. Kelly fixed Ryan a plate of food and gave him a ride home. David Eugene Knox of Navarre, KS, died on July 5, 2023 at Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan, KS at the age of 63 years. David was born on September 1, 1959 in Junction City, KS to Joseph and Dorothy (Lynn) Knox. He grew up and attended school in Junction City, KS. After high school, David served three (3) years in the U.S. Army and two (2) years in the Abilene, KS National Guard. After serving in the military, David worked for many years at the Junction City Foundry until it closed. He then worked for Hamm Quarries until his health made him leave that job. David enjoyed working around the house and gardening in his spare time. He also enjoyed researching his ancestry and working word search puzzles. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Junction City, KS. David was married to Lori Corbett 1991; to that union one child, Chelsea Catherine was born. David and Lori were later divorced. David then met and married Rebecca ‘Becky’ (McGinnis) Grubbs on October 30, 2006. David was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; and three (3) brothers: Donald, Douglas and Kevin; and a nephew, Joshua. He is survived by his daughter Chelsea (Reggie) Jacobs of Florida; two brothers, Greg (JoAnn Sutton) Knox of Manhattan, KS and Steven Knox of Chapman; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. J. Raycille Chrisco 84 of Abilene passed away Monday, July 3, 2023. She was born in Dodge City October 3, 1938, the daughter of Ralph and Lucile (Regnier) Uden. She graduated from Abilene High School in the class of 1956. On August 24, 1957 she was united in marriage to Dennis L. Chrisco. He preceded her in death December 17, 2003.&nbsp; Raycille was a homemaker and a member of the St. Andrew Catholic Church in Abilene. 

Raycille is survived by her two sons: Michael Chrisco and wife Becky of Olathe and Curtis Chrisco and wife Alison of Lawrence. Two grandchildren: Aaron and Megan Chrisco. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

 Mass of Christian Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at St. Andrew Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Mt. St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Robert Wesley “Jake” Jacobson, age 90, of Manhattan, died December 4, 2022, at Ascension Via Christi Village in Manhattan.

He was born August 24, 1932, in Manhattan, the son of Alva Clemment and Anabelle (Finney) Jacobson.

Jake graduated from Manhattan High School with the Class of 1950 and then in Industrial Education from Kansas State University in 1963.

He served in the United States Air Force from March of 1952 to January 1956, during the Korean War. He had received the Purple Heart, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Air Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.

Jake had worked in car sales following his discharge, and then for Skaggs in Dodge City for two years before returning to Manhattan in 1961 to attend Kansas State University. He worked as a bartender at Wheel Bar in Estes Park from 1963 to 1965, taught Auto Mechanics at Manhattan High School from 1965 to 1967, was a Blue Cross/Blue Shield Insurance District Representative from 1967 to 1969, and then returned to Colorado where he worked for Keer Leasing Company in sales/lease returns. From 1988, until his retirement in 2000, he was the owner of the Fleet Resale Dealer for Western Fleet Resale in Denver, Colorado. He then returned to Manhattan in April of 2001.

He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed shooting pool and billiards, watching all sports on TV and was a fan of KSU, the Royals and K.C. Chiefs.

He was married to Greta F. (Cragg) Siddens on July31,1982, at the First United Methodist Church in Manhattan. Greta preceded him in death on March 13, 2008. He was also preceded in death by one brother Charles, by his stepson Ted W. Siddens and step-daughter Trudy (Siddens) Hyden.

Survivors include his stepdaughter Carolyn Ann Siddens of Burlington, CO; and four siblings: Jane S. (James A.) McKim of Leawood, KS, Helen L. Thull (Gary) of Des Moines, IA, Donald R. (Vicki) Jacobson of Manhattan, KS and Marilyn C. (Delmar A.) Janovec of Littleton, CO and sister-in-law Abbey Jacobson of Katy, TX.

Graveside services with military honors will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday, July 17th, at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery southeast of Manhattan.

Robert Wesley “Jake” Jacobson

Harold Couchman entered the world March 2, 1933 as son of George and Elizabeth “Frankie” (Davison) Couchman of Garfield Kansas. He passed away on July 8th, at Meadowlark Hills - Honstead House, in Manhattan. Harold graduated from Garfield High School in 1951.

During his youth, Harold was very active in 4-H and earned about every trip available. In 1952, he was selected as one of four outstanding 4-Hers in Kansas and won a trip to a leadership camp in Washington DC. While in Washington DC, Harold was selected as one of two 4-Hers to present President Truman with a plaque for outstanding services to 4-H. Later in life, he spent years as a 4-H club leader in Clay County where his kids grew up through the 4-H and FFA programs.

Harold was a Veteran of the U.S. Army. He enlisted on his 21st birthday with 12 of his friends including his cousin, Lorraine Couchman from Pawnee County Kansas. Harold attended basic training at Camp Chaffee Arkansas followed by radio operator and code school. Harold served two years active duty and spent time in Korea with the 5th armored Division, Company A of the 44th Engineering Battalion, obtaining the rank of Specialist Second Class. He served six more years in the U.S. Army Reserves after which he was Honorably Discharged having achieved the rank of Sergeant. During his service, Harold was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the Korea Defense Service Medal.

Harold was united in marriage with Glennis Unruh in June of 1958 &amp; to this union three children were born, two sons and a daughter. They raised their children in rural Clay County. Harold was a master at designing intricate woodworking, electricity projects and gardening displays with his children for many County and State Fair exhibitions. The marriage ended in 1980. After growing up on a dairy farm raising Jerseys in Pawnee County, in 1958 Harold and his dad built an A&amp;W Drive-in in Larned, Kansas and ran it for ten years. After this time, he followed his father’s footsteps and became a carpenter and general contractor in the Clay Center, Manhattan, Topeka and Rossville area. Harold stepped away from General Contracting for a few years and worked for the maintenance department of Friend’s University in Wichita Kansas, retiring in 1995. After retirement, Harold returned to his passion of carpentry work and specialized in home projects of remodeling, finishing basements and additions. There are many proud homeowners in Northeast Kansas that are happy to show off and brag about Harold’s craft work that highlights his eye for detail.

After Harold was unable to continue carpentry work, Harold worked seven years at Rossville Caseys and was known for the special touches he provided to the pizzas he made. Harold developed a new passion volunteering for the Rossville Community library. He contributed many hours to preparing projects for the children programs offered at the library. In 2020, Harold was recognized by Friends of Kansas Libraries for an Outstanding Individual Award. In 2022, Harold was featured on WIBW during the Salute our Heroes segment for his service to the military and the library.

Harold’s greatest joys were square dancing and going to his grand and great grandchildren's activities, attending Kansas State football and basketball games. He was fortunate to attend many of the bowl games. In addition, he was an avid KC Chiefs fan and attended the Chiefs first Super Bowl game, in the LA Coliseum.

Harold was preceded in death by his father in 1974 and mother in 1993. He is survived by his companion and best friend of twenty-five years Charie Broughton of Rossville Kansas, sister Eileen Donham, Derby Kansas, two sons: Larry and Carol Couchman and Garry Couchman of Manhattan Kansas, daughter Terry and Steve Hodges of Des Moines, Iowa. Grandchildren: Andrew and Erin Couchman, Leah and Jarrod Sheldon, Benjamin and Rachel Couchman, Sarah and Jason Baker, all residing in Wamego Kansas, Matthew and Jayden Couchman, Goddard Kansas, Destini Warnke Lincoln, Nebraska, Kaitlyn Hodges, JD Cocker and Steven Hodges of Altoona Iowa. Thirteen great grandchildren of which eleven reside in Wamego Kansas, one in Arlington Texas and one in Altoona Iowa. Charie’s daughter Gina and Corey Ervay, Andover Kansas, son Greg and Debby Taylor, Topeka Kansas and three additional “grandchildren”. In addition, there are many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, June 14th, at the Westview Community Church, 615 Gillespie, Manhattan, with Pastor Brian Smith officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in the Sunrise Cemetery in Manhattan. As a tribute to Harold’s passion for Kansas State please wear your favorite Kansas State attire to the service.

He is survived by his companion and best friend of twenty-five years Charie Broughton of Rossville Kansas, sister Eileen Donham, Derby Kansas, two sons: Larry and Carol Couchman and Garry Couchman of Manhattan Kansas, daughter Terry and Steve Hodges of Des Moines, Iowa. Grandchildren: Andrew and Erin Couchman, Leah and Jarrod Sheldon, Benjamin and Rachel Couchman, Sarah and Jason Baker, all residing in Wamego Kansas, Matthew and Jayden Couchman, Goddard Kansas, Destini Warnke Lincoln, Nebraska, Kaitlyn Hodges, JD Cocker and Steven Hodges of Altoona Iowa. Thirteen great grandchildren of which eleven reside in Wamego Kansas, one in Arlington Texas and one in Altoona Iowa. Charie’s daughter Gina and Corey Ervay, Andover Kansas, son Greg and Debby Taylor, Topeka Kansas and three additional “grandchildren”. In addition, there are many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, June 14th, at the Westview Community Church, 615 Gillespie, Manhattan, with Pastor Brian Smith officiating. Joyce Marie Witmer, 78, of Saint George, Kansas, passed away Friday, July 7th, 2023 at her home. For 15 years she worked as the front desk receptionist at the former Motel Six in Manhattan. Joyce was also a seamstress at Artex Manufacturing for 5 years, but more especially she was a homemaker and mother.

Joyce was born in Carthage, Missouri on March 10,1945, the daughter of the late Ernest A. Hurst and Vina Roberta (Jackson) Osborn. On Aug. 9, 1961 in Joplin, Missouri she was united in marriage to Gary Lee Witmer, for over 59 years until his passing on October 25, 2020. She also attended the Zeandale Community Church in Zeandale, Kansas. She and Gary, Sr. enjoyed camping, traveling and spending time with family and friends.

&nbsp;She is survived by two daughters; Melinda J. (Jim) McCoy, of Saint George; Mary A. (Kenneth) Stevenson, also of St. George; two sons Gary Lee Witmer, Jr., of Manhattan and Mike Sean Witmer, of Manhattan; 1 brother, Billy Osborn, of Grove, Oklahoma; also surviving are her grandchildren; Nik McCoy; Crystal Heath; Brenda Stevenson; Joshua Stevenson; Justin Stevenson; great grandchildren: Trenton McCoy; Colton Smith; Kaelyn McCoy; Gabriel Taber, Haylee Heath.

Verlee Darlene Fronce, age 83 of Manhattan, passed away Friday, March 10, 2023 in the Bramlage House at Meadowlark Hills.

She was born on December 9, 1939 in Salina, the daughter of Vearl West and Vera (Perrill) West Cravens.&nbsp; Her parents divorced early on and she was then raised and loved dearly by her step father, Roy Cravens.&nbsp; She attended Manhattan area schools, graduating from Manhattan High school in 1958.

On May 29, 1958, at the Ashland Community Church, she married Larry Joe Fronce.&nbsp; They met at a community square dance at the age of 15.&nbsp; He preceded her in death on July 29, 2020.

She worked various jobs for several years, spending most of those years at Dillons.&nbsp; She worked in the Dillons Bakery, then managed the Seafood Department and then moved on to manage the Deli Department.&nbsp; She retired from Dillons working as a Pharmacy Technician in the Pharmacy department.&nbsp;

Darlene loved her family and friends greatly.&nbsp; When her son Jeffrey was born with Down Syndrome in 1960, she played a key role in bringing parents of special needs children together in Manhattan, as there were not many, if any, programs like these in place at that time.&nbsp; These included Special Olympics and programs for Special Populations within the city. She loved supporting her grandkids in all their ventures; sports, musicals, and job related activities.&nbsp; She was an active member of her ESA sorority and truly enjoyed her time together with these ladies. She loved family gatherings and game nights.&nbsp; She loved to travel, especially enjoying Estes Park in the fall. Up until her move into Meadowlark in November 2022, she loved the views of the sunrises and sunsets from her house by the lake.&nbsp; She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.&nbsp;

She is survived by two sons, Larry Dean Fronce of Manhattan and Todd Anthony Fronce and wife Deyanira of El Paso, Texas; one daughter, Krista Thaemert and husband Tom of Manhattan; three brothers, Wayne Cravens and wife Bonnie of Manhattan, Kenneth Cravens and wife Sandy of Manhattan and Mike Cravens and wife Dani of Wamego; one sister, Jan Speckman of New Mexico; five grandchildren, Justin Fronce, Savannah Thaemert, Reese Thaemert, Sarah Fronce and Abby Fronce and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Jeffrey Jay Fronce; one sister-in-law, Joyce Fronce and one brother-in-law, Clyde Fronce.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on July 6, 2023 at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home. &nbsp;Inurnment will be in the Carnahan Creek Cemetery.

Maxine Faye (Mapes) Oatney, age 92 of Waterville, passed away surrounded by family on July 4th, 2023 at the Blue Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center, Blue Rapids, KS.&nbsp;

She was born to Harry and Pearl (Holland) Mapes in Waterville on August 3, 1930. She graduated from Waterville High School in 1948.

She married Harris Eugene Oatney on November 22, 1948 at the Methodist Parsonage in Waterville, KS. &nbsp;He passed away in 1985.&nbsp;

Maxine worked as a public servant in nursing homes in her early years before moving to the Waterville area in 1968. She cooked at the Village Inn for several years, before going to the Waterville Grade School as their cook and custodian for 14 years. She enjoyed cooking for family, family reunions, puzzle books, playing cards, listening to country music and visiting with friends.

Maxine is survived by her four children, daughter Alice (Mick) Swearingen, son Jim (Kim) Oatney, son John (Buffy) Oatney all of Waterville, daughter Jill (Brad) Schramm, Bremen; one brother Dean (Ida) Mapes, Guam; &nbsp;two daughters-in-law, Maxine (Larry) Plegge, Marysville and Dottie Oatney, Kansas City area; eleven grandsons and several great grandchildren.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Harry; two sons Allen and Joe; two grandsons Scott Swearingen and Zack Oatney; four great grandchildren Chelsie Oatney, Brady Mills, Easton Oatney and Gabriel Oatney; two great great grandchildren, Otis and Russell Weber; and six siblings, Harry Mapes, Helen Jensen, Bill Mapes, Cecil Mapes, Delbert Mapes and June Jorgenson.

Viewing is from noon until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, July, 10, 2023 with a visitation from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Christie-Anderes Funeral Home in Waterville.

Dorothy Frances Morrow, age 82 of Clay Center, passed away Monday, June 26, 2023 at the Clay County Medical Center.

She was born on January 22, 1941 in Johnson City, Tennessee, the daughter of Alfred Clifford and Emma Myrtle (Smith) Pritchard.

She grew up in an orphanage and later in a group home for girls. She married Lloyd Montgomery Bigger in 1960 in Glendale, Arizona. They later divorced. She worked many jobs in her lifetime, from picking cotton as a teen, working in the school cafeteria in Glendale, shrimping in Gulfport, Mississippi. Her last job before retirement was with Checker Auto.

She loved fishing, playing cards, board games and spending time with her family, especially her grandkids and great-grandkids. The outdoors was her favorite place to be, often camping with her dog, Sugar.

She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Eric Johnson.

Survivors include her two daughters, Kay Johnson of Clay Center and Ann Gogel and husband Gilbert of Queen Creek, Arizona; four grandchildren, Jenifer Davies and husband Steve of Clay Center, T. J. Davis and wife Desirae of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Michael Gogel of Queen Creek, Arizona and Chad Gogel and wife Natalie of Reno, Nevada; five great grandchildren, Coby Davies, Corbyn Davies, Amber Johnson, Cole Davies, and Eliana Gogel.

Richard R. Terrian, of Wakefield, KS joined his heavenly Father on 7/1/2023. He was surrounded by his family and sent off to his new heavenly home with an outpouring of love and support.

Richard had a full life filled with many stories, adventures and accomplishments. The most important being his loving relationship with God and His Son Jesus Christ.

Richard's family was his next love. He loved his family so very much. He had a generous loving heart and forgiving spirit. He believed in not only second chances, but as many chances as it took to make things right. He was a great listener and took his time to think before responding. He was a hard worker who always provided for his family in every way possible. He was more than a husband, father, grandpa, brother, uncle or cousin. He was our friend, our confident, our support, our love.

Richard was a proud Army veteran who retired after 20 years of service. He served in the 1st Squadron, 4th Calvary, 1st Infantry Division, who were awarded the Presidential Unit Citation Award by President Lyndon Johnson for their valiant service. He loved his country, believed in freedom and doing what he could for his fellow man.

He will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Connie of 59 plus years. His children: Richard and wife Sonya Terrian, Kristy and husband Eric Eickholt and Kami Shandy. His grandchildren: Samantha and husband Michael Duckworth, Matthew and wife Michaela Shandy, Richie Terrian Ill, Dougie Shandy and LaNae Terrian. Great grandchildren: Beckham and "baby" Shandy and Beatrice Duckworth. Sister: Doris Williams. Cousin: Carla Reetz and many nieces and nephews.

Richard R. Terrian

Arthur (Art) M. Nease, Jr. passed away peacefully at his home in Abilene, Kansas on July 3, 2023. Art was born on January 4, 1932 in Lawrence, Kansas to Arthur M. Nease, Sr. and Fannie (Abel) Nease. He attended Lawrence Liberty Memorial High School and the University of Kansas while on a Navy ROTC Scholarship.

At KU, Art was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity and particularly enjoyed music. He played the trumpet with the KU Marching Band and the string bass with the University orchestra. On weekends, Art played in a college band that played house parties and other events. Art also was in charge of the TKE Serenades, a group that that would sing to girls in sororities, dorms and scholarship halls. It was during one of these serenades that a coed from the Tri Delt house, Marilyn Sorem , first laid eyes on Art. The two started dating several years later and were married on June 14, 1959, recently celebrating their 64th Wedding Anniversary. Art graduated from KU with a degree in Business Administration and later the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Banking. He commissioned into the Navy as a Supply Officer, where he served in the Pacific. Upon completion of his Naval duties, Art went to work for the FDIC as a bank examiner. After several years with the FDIC, Art purchased the State Exchange Bank in Barnes, Kansas, where he resided as President for 30 years.

After retiring from the bank, Art and Marilyn moved to Abilene, Kansas where he worked part-time at the Eisenhower Presidential Museum and Library for almost 20 years. He loved working at the Museum because he enjoyed history and meeting people from all over the world. In Abilene, Art was active in the Kiwanis club, St. John’s Episcopal Church and sang for several years in the annual Messiah concerts at Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas.

Art’s main hobbies were golf and KU athletics. He played golf any time he could, and in his younger days traveled with friends for golf vacations and enjoyed playing in various tournaments throughout the state. As for KU, Art was a loyal Jayhawk from the cradle and held football and basketball season tickets for over 50 years. Proceeding Art in death were his parents. He is survived by wife, Marilyn; daughter, Jordan Brennan (Marc); son, Arthur Miles; grandson, Cort Brennan; sister, Patricia Dix; brother, Donald Nease (Sandra) and nieces and nephews.

A Celebratory Mass in honor of Art will be held at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 519 N. Buckeye Abilene, Kansas on Saturday, July 8 at 11:00a.m.. In lieu of flowers, family suggests memorials to the University of Kansas Endowment Association, P.O. Box 928 Lawrence, Kansas 66044.&nbsp;&nbsp;

 </figure>Arthur (Art) M. Nease, Jr. passed away peacefully at his home in Abilene, Kansas on July 3, 2023. Art was born on January 4, 1932 in Lawrence, Kansas to Arthur M. Nease, Sr. and Fannie (Abel) Nease. He attended Lawrence Liberty Memorial High School and the University of Kansas while on a Navy ROTC Scholarship. At KU, Art was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity and particularly enjoyed music. He played the trumpet with the KU Marching Band and the string bass with the University orchestra. On weekends, Art played in a college band that played house parties and other events. Art also was in charge of the TKE Serenades, a group that that would sing to girls in sororities, dorms and scholarship halls. It was during one of these serenades that a coed from the Tri Delt house, Marilyn Sorem , first laid eyes on Art. The two started dating several years later and were married on June 14, 1959, recently celebrating their 64th Wedding Anniversary. Art graduated from KU with a degree in Business Administration and later the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Banking. He commissioned into the Navy as a Supply Officer, where he served in the Pacific. Upon completion of his Naval duties, Art went to work for the FDIC as a bank examiner. After several years with the FDIC, Art purchased the State Exchange Bank in Barnes, Kansas, where he resided as President for 30 years. After retiring from the bank, Art and Marilyn moved to Abilene, Kansas where he worked part-time at the Eisenhower Presidential Museum and Library for almost 20 years. He loved working at the Museum because he enjoyed history and meeting people from all over the world. In Abilene, Art was active in the Kiwanis club, St. John’s Episcopal Church and sang for several years in the annual Messiah concerts at Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas. Art’s main hobbies were golf and KU athletics. He played golf any time he could, and in his younger days traveled with friends for golf vacations and enjoyed playing in various tournaments throughout the state. As for KU, Art was a loyal Jayhawk from the cradle and held football and basketball season tickets for over 50 years. Proceeding Art in death were his parents.
