Keith B. Oney, 71, of Alma, passed away on Sunday, November 19, 2023.

   Born July 19, 1952 in New London, Ohio, Keith was the son of Ernest and Verlie (Case) Oney.  He married LaNelle Kay Wegner on July 3, 1978 in Las Vegas, Nevada.  She survives at the home.

   Keith attended New London public schools, graduating in June 1970 and enlisted in the Army to serve his country during the Vietnam war. He completed Airborne Ranger school while in Vietnam and served in the Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol (LRRP) unit for the G-75th Rangers. He was stationed at Fort Riley and honorably discharged September 1973. Keith enjoyed all things outdoors and spent time hunting, trapping, racing dirt track cars, and tinkering with several car and truck projects. He was a member of several state and national outdoor organizations, serving as a volunteer of the Kansas Fur Harvesters and Wabaunsee County 4-H. 

   Keith was employed for many years as an ASE certified mechanic at several area dealerships and independently owned shops before retiring from the Kansas Turnpike Authority in 2009.

   Survivors include his wife, LaNelle; a son, Brian Oney (Stacey) of Trophy Club, TX; a daughter, Kayla Savage (Johnathan) of St. George, KS; six grandchildren, Sophia Oney, Connor Oney, Ainsley Oney, Colin Oney, Cooper Savage and Owen Savage; an Aunt, AnnaLea Clark (Clinton “Tiny”) of Tampa, FL; and several nieces and nephews.

   Mr. Oney was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Marv Oney Savage; a sister, Tina Inscho; and three brothers, Bill “Buddy” Oney, Don Oney and Roy Oney.

   Memorial services will be held Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at the Alma United Methodist Church with Pastor Kyle Scheideman and Pastor Cindy Neill officiating.  Inurnment with Military Honors by the U. S. Army Funeral Honors Detail and the Alma American Legion Post No. 32 will be in the Alma City Cemetery.
