Thomas E. Tyree, 79 of Leonardville, Kansas died on Sunday, December 10, 2023 at the Clay County Medical Center in Clay Center, Kansas.  He was born on August 31, 1944 in St. Albans, West Virginia, the son of Henry and Clara (Deweise) Tyree.

Tom grew up and attended schools in West Virginia.  He served in the U.S. Army from 1967-1969, doing one tour in Vietnam.  He married Helen Worthington on March 6, 1970 and she preceded him in death on July 4, 2023.  The couple moved to Clay center in 1970.  Tom worked for the Civil Service at Fort Riley for a short time in the early 1970s, Hutinson/Mayrath and drove a concrete truck for many years in Junction City, Florida and Clay Center.  He and Helen also owned and operated the Silver Dollar Bar and operated the Rex Theater in Clay Center.  He is also preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Donald and Cecil Tyree.

He is survived by his son, James and wife, Tamara Ferguson of Trenton, GA; daughters, Debra and husband, Dean Dunn of Clay Center, KS, Michelle Stephan of St. Lous, MO, and Pamela and husband, Steven Lilley of Clay Center, KS; 13 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; brother, Doug Tyree of Hurricane, WV and sister, Joyce Burford of Charleston, WV.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2023 at 10:30AM at the Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home in Clay Center, Kansas. 

Burial will be held in the Greenwood cemetery in Clay Center, Kansas. 

Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2023 from 9:00AM until service time at the Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home in Clay Center, Kansas.
