Wanda Rose (Bollinger) Friesen passed away on&nbsp;Sept 27, 2023&nbsp;in&nbsp;San Luis Obispo,&nbsp;California&nbsp;at 90 years of age.&nbsp;

On&nbsp;May 14, 1933&nbsp;she was born at her home on a farm in&nbsp;Whitley&nbsp;County&nbsp;near&nbsp;Tunker,&nbsp;Indiana&nbsp;where she was also raised.&nbsp;During&nbsp;her&nbsp;early years she participated in 4-H Club and music activities.&nbsp;&nbsp;She and her mother and sisters played an 8 hand piano piece (four people playing the piano at one time) in a contest at the state fair and received a 3rd place award.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Over her&nbsp;lifetime, she also enjoyed activities&nbsp;such as crafts, traveling, square dancing and writing articles, stories and poems that shared her Christian faith with others.&nbsp;Her faith in the Lord was important to her and she expressed this by being active in her church, teaching Sunday school, leading the choir and playing the piano. She also wrote her testimony&nbsp;of God's faithfulness in her life which she freely shared with others. She titled it, "Will our Faith Stand the Test?"

Wanda graduated from&nbsp;Washington&nbsp;Center&nbsp;High School&nbsp;in&nbsp;Whitley&nbsp;County,&nbsp;Indiana&nbsp;in 1951. She received&nbsp;a degree in Music Education from&nbsp;Manchester&nbsp;College&nbsp;in 1955. After graduation, she taught elementary music&nbsp;classes for several years in&nbsp;Goshen,&nbsp;Indiana.

She met her husband, Vernon Friesen, while both were on a mission trip to&nbsp;Mexico. During this trip, Wanda spent the summer at a work camp helping the Mexican&nbsp;people there. Wanda and&nbsp;Vernon&nbsp;were married a year later on&nbsp;August 25, 1957&nbsp;in&nbsp;South Whitley,&nbsp;Indiana.&nbsp; After her marriage, she taught music in&nbsp;Round Lake,&nbsp;Illinois&nbsp;until moving with her husband to take classes at the&nbsp;University&nbsp;of&nbsp;Illinois. The family moved to&nbsp;Tucson,&nbsp;Arizona&nbsp;where their daughters, Amy (Ward) and Janell (Epp), were born. They then moved to&nbsp;McPherson,&nbsp;Kansas&nbsp;where their&nbsp;son, Jeffery Friesen, was born.&nbsp; They eventually moved to&nbsp;Manhattan,&nbsp;Kansas&nbsp;and settled there.&nbsp; After the&nbsp;birth of their&nbsp;children, Wanda spent&nbsp;many years as a homemaker and mother raising her children. As she had time, she did activities&nbsp;outside the home such as working at a nursing home, organizing a "Student Wives Club" at&nbsp;McPherson&nbsp;College&nbsp;and,&nbsp;as a member of the Toastmistress Club, winning a local speech contest and going to regionals.

&nbsp;After Wanda and&nbsp;Vernon&nbsp;divorced in the early 1980's, Wanda moved to&nbsp;San Luis Obispo,&nbsp;California&nbsp;where she would&nbsp;live, work and serve the community for the next 35+ years.

Some&nbsp;of Wanda's activities included being a docent at the historic Jack House and managing the QCOC clothing shop in&nbsp;Morro&nbsp;Bay. She also participated in numerous programs that supported the senior community including the Senior Companion&nbsp;Program, Senior Peer Counseling, and the Ombudsman and Hospice&nbsp;training programs.&nbsp;&nbsp;Wanda enjoyed square dancing, so she organized a square dance club for singles called the SoLO Squares. She was also a member of the Central Coast Clogging Club.

Wanda spent many hours volunteering, and over 20 years as coordinator of volunteers,&nbsp;for the information desks at the&nbsp;San Luis Obispo&nbsp;airport and train station.&nbsp;This volunteer program was sponsored by the Retired&nbsp;Senior Volunteer&nbsp;Program (RSVP).&nbsp; In a 2013 RSVP newsletter, it was said of Wanda, "She is kind and caring to all travelers and volunteers alike and is often commended on her approach to life's little problems. She is a remarkable representative of the volunteer spirit that is alive and well in&nbsp;San Luis Obispo&nbsp;and RSVP.&nbsp; Her interest in helping those traveling through the&nbsp;San Luis Obispo&nbsp;airport&nbsp;and the Amtrak&nbsp;station is absolutely amazing."

As she aged, she still continued&nbsp;to think of others and share her Christian faith by sending cards, letters and her own personal poems written to give encouragement to family, friends and others who were going through hard times. Poem titles she shared most often included "On Wings of an Eagle", "Meet Me at the Cross", and "Does God Hear Me?"&nbsp;

Wanda is survived by her daughter&nbsp;Janell (Bryan) Epp, son Jeffery Friesen, son-in-law Eric Ward, 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter Amy Ward, her parents Harry Bollnger, Sr and Joyce Reed Bollinger, brothers Harry Bollinger, Jr, and John Bollinger as well as her two sisters Mary Thomas and Alice Bohnstedt.

Betty Jones, 99, of Clay Center, Kansas, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2023. Betty was born in Auburn, NE and spent most of her early life in rural communities in Washington County before moving to Clay Center, KS where she raised her family.

In 1939, Betty married Lawrence Dodd, and together they embarked on a life of farming and building their family until Lawrence's passing in 1976. Betty's dedication to education led her to Kansas State University and Cloud County Community College, where she earned her certifications in Food Services as a Dietician. For 15 years, she served as the Food Manager at the Clay Center Presbyterian Manor, touching the lives of many with warm heart.

In 1982, Betty found love again and married Howard Jones, with whom she shared numerous adventures until his passing in 1998. Together, they served as camp hosts in the picturesque landscapes of Colorado and Wyoming for over a decade, creating cherished memories and lifelong friendships.

Betty had a passion for exploration and traveled extensively, visiting most of the states in the US and even embarking on a memorable trip to India. She found solace and creativity in quilting, a talent she generously shared with her family, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and artistry.

Betty was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church and a dedicated 4-H Leader for the Washington Headliners, inspiring the youth with her wisdom and kindness. Family meant everything to Betty, and she leaves behind a legacy of love, survived by her daughters Opal, Sandra, Cathy, and Sharon her 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

Betty will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her love for family, her spunk, and her adventurous spirit. Her absence leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew her, but her legacy of love, kindness, strength, and resilience will continue to inspire generations to come.

David Allen Scripter, age 67, died at Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan, on October 25, 2023. He was born to Richard and Dorothy (Bemis) Scripter on June 17, 1956, in Salina, KS. David grew up in the Longford area for half of his childhood. In the 6th grade he and his family moved to Superior, NE where he graduated high school. David later attended Kearney State College and Central Community College in Hastings, NE, earning his welding certification. He married Janis “Jill” Tyree on September 24, 1976. She survives of the home. In 1990 David and Jill moved to Clay Center. &nbsp;David worked for the family business, Longford Mill Products, and then later farmed with his family. &nbsp;He began working for Hutchinson-Maywrath until 2016 when he retired. &nbsp;David enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and lawn care. Most of all he enjoyed attending his kids’ and grandkids’ activities. &nbsp;David was a current member of the First Presbyterian Church and a former member of the Elks, Old Car Nuts, and was a volunteer firefighter in Superior, NE. He is preceded in death by his father, and brothers, Donald, and Steven Scripter.&nbsp;

Johnny Starwalt

Blake Russell Harding-Richardson, 15, of Clay Center died on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. &nbsp;He was born October 16, 2008 in Manhattan, Kansas, the son of Quinton Richardson and Amanda (Harding) Weaver.

Blake was a Freshman at Clay Center Community High School. &nbsp;He was a member of FCA in middle school and a member of the basketball team. &nbsp;He enjoyed gaming, especially on his Play Station and his PC. &nbsp;Blake always looked forward to hanging out with his friends and enjoyed bass fishing.

He was a member of the Clay Center First Presbyterian Church, where he was a member of the youth group. &nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his brother, Jacoby; infant sisters, Nevaeh and Heaven; great grandparents, Charles and Sharon Harding and Kenneth and Mary Jane Gossen; paternal grandmother, Carrie Richardson and uncle, Michael Richardson.

Blake is survived by his father, Quinton Richardson; mother and stepfather, Amanda and Juan Weaver of Hinesville, GA; sisters, Hannah Harding-Richardson of Clay Center, KS, Keetaira Brown and Shayenne Guinn, both of Ada, OK; maternal grandparents, Kevin and Phyllis Harding of Clay Center, KS; paternal grandparents, L.G. Harper of Ada, OK; uncles, Dallas Harding of Lawton, OK and J.D. Plummer of Riley, KS; aunts, Chasity Harper of Tulsa, OK and Jessica Plummer of Clay Center, KS and numerous other aunts, uncles and cousins.&nbsp;

Memorial Services will be held on Friday, November 3, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Clay Center, KS&nbsp;

 </figure>Blake Russell Harding-Richardson, 15, of Clay Center died on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. &nbsp;He was born October 16, 2008 in Manhattan, Kansas, the son of Quinton Richardson and Amanda (Harding) Weaver.Blake was a Freshman at Clay Center Community High School. &nbsp;He was a member of FCA in middle school and a member of the basketball team. &nbsp;He enjoyed gaming, especially on his Play Station and his PC. &nbsp;Blake always looked forward to hanging out with his friends and enjoyed bass fishing.He was a member of the Clay Center First Presbyterian Church, where he was a member of the youth group. &nbsp;He was preceded in death by his brother, Jacoby; infant sisters, Nevaeh and Heaven; great grandparents, Charles and Sharon Harding and Kenneth and Mary Jane Gossen; paternal grandmother, Carrie Richardson and uncle, Michael Richardson.Blake is survived by his father, Quinton Richardson; mother and stepfather, Amanda and Juan Weaver of Hinesville, GA; sisters, Hannah Harding-Richardson of Clay Center, KS, Keetaira Brown and Shayenne Guinn, both of Ada, OK; maternal grandparents, Kevin and Phyllis Harding of Clay Center, KS; paternal grandparents, L.G. Timothy Robert Lytle, 67 of Abilene passed away October 27th 2023 at his home following a 17-year valiant fight with cancer. Tim was born February 18th 1956 in Irvine California to Robert and Charlotte Lytle. His stepdad, Darrell Fletcher came into his life when he was a young boy and raised him like his own, he and his wife Mona of Groves, Texas survive. 

On October 21st 1978 Tim married Debbie Davis and to this union 3 children were born. Prior to the cancer diagnosis, Tim worked for Great Plains-Land Pride manufacturing for as a Computer Assisted Design manufacturing supervisor for more than 20 years. Tim always kept a positive outlook even during his bad days fighting cancer and cherished his family. To know Tim was to love him and nobody loved him more than his 6 grandkids and nieces and nephews.&nbsp; His grandkids, Ali, Mady, Dawsyn, Daxtyn, Penelope, and Decker brought so much joy to his life.&nbsp; Dad and Papa were his greatest titles and he wore them with pride. Some of his best times were spent camping and hunting with the boys.&nbsp; He was always seen at a sporting event for his kids either as a coach or a spectator never missing a chance to watch those he loved.&nbsp; Whether it be wrestling, softball, football, baseball, or dancing he never missed the chance to see his kids, nieces and nephews, and grandkids do what they loved.&nbsp;&nbsp;Tim didn’t know a stranger and always had a kind word or a hug for anyone he encountered.&nbsp; He made you feel special no matter who you were.&nbsp; Tim loved fiercely and with his whole heart.&nbsp; Tim and Debbie just celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary and he would always take the chance to tell you how much he loved her.

&nbsp;&nbsp;Tim was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister Gaylene Beach. Tim is survived by his wife Debbie of the home, his son Seth and wife Erin of Loveland CO, his daughters Kimberly Krauter and husband Brent of Hiawatha, KS and Miranda Ward and Husband Cory of Abilene. Tim is also survived by his brothers; Monty Lytle (Jan) of Salina, KS, Guy Lytle (Vicky) Sacramento, CA, Charles Fletcher (Sheng-Yen) of Port Neches, TX, Jerry Davis, Abilene, Dennis Davis, Salina and sisters Shayla Mohr (Dean) and Denise McCullough of Abilene. He leaves behind his 6 grandkids, his Bud Colby, niece Jaycie and many more nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held Monday October 30th, 2023 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Danner Funeral Home 501 N. Buckeye Abilene, KS. Donnalee Marcene Broadfoot passed away peacefully October 27, 2023 surrounded by family in her home in Weston, Missouri after a brief illness. Marcene was born Oct 18, 1927 to E. Gail and Erma Betts in Detroit, Kansas. She graduated from Dickinson County Community High School in 1945 and, after taking the civil service exam, she moved to Manhattan, Kansas. She worked in the Alumni Office at Kansas State University across the hall from the college president, Milton Eisenhower, who enjoyed frequent visits from his brother General Ike Eisenhower. 

In 1949 Leroy Broadfoot and Marcene were married and moved to Abilene, Kansas where they raised their two daughters, Carla and Cathy. Marcene worked in the county attorney’s office and a local bank. When her daughters were in grade school she continued her education, obtaining her undergraduate and masters degrees from Kansas State University. She taught English at Abilene High School and, upon retirement, served as sorority mother for Kappa Delta, Tri-Delt and ADPi houses at Kansas State University. In 1997 Marcene moved to Weston, Missouri to be near family where she enjoyed being a part of her daughter’s retail business and was an active member of the United Methodist Church. Throughout her life Marcene was an avid reader, gardener, exemplary seamstress and cook, and she enjoyed traveling throughout North America and visiting Europe. She was a devoted grandmother and a dedicated Wildcat fan. 

Marcene was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Broadfoot, her parents, and her sisters Leone Simpson and Sandra Reiff. She is survived by her daughter Carla (Bob) Miller, Big Rapids, Michigan; daughter Cathy Murdock, Weston, Missouri; granddaughter McKenna Murdock, Los Angeles, California; nieces Vicky Simpson Packard and Robin Reiff (Steve) Brace; and nephews Cary (Connie) Simpson and Terry (Angie) Reiff.

A visitation will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, November 4 at Danner Funeral Home in Abilene, Kansas, with services at 2 p.m.. Graveside services will be at Prairiedale Cemetery north of Talmage. Gordon Dale Strunk was born March 24, 1928, south of Abilene, Kansas. He was welcomed into God’s arms, passing away peacefully on October 27, 2023 at home in Talmage, Kansas. He spent his boyhood years in the New Basel community, attending rural schools and graduating from Abilene High School in 1946.Upon graduation, Gordon embarked on a lifetime of work centered around agriculture, such as farming and livestock feed sales. He was a talented motor grader operator and timber logger, skills he passed on to his sons and grandsons. He retired at age 85.&nbsp;

 After retirement, he enjoyed listening to the songbirds, watching baseball and rodeo on TV, sitting on the screened porch in the summer, near the wood stove in the winter, frequent visits with neighbors, and daily afternoon refreshments. Not much of a traveler, Dickinson County was his world. As long as he could see the prairie’s horizon, that was all the vacation he needed. If you knew Gordon, you heard him sing. He sang every single day! He had a song in his heart and an appropriate one for every occasion, usually old hymns, country western, or American standards. If a song came to mind, he sang it out!As Dad to seven, fatherhood came naturally to Gordon. He guided with advice like, “we’ll know more come 4th of July,” “nothing that a little Sunday School won’t cure”, “Pay Attention!”, and often, “Put a smile on your face!”.

Gordon was preceded in death by his parents Aaron and Ella, first wife Margaret, infant grandson Christopher Loftus, and his best friend and brother-in-law Delmar Curran. He is survived by DeAnne, his devoted wife of 54 years, his sister Rosella Curran, and his seven children: Kay Hoffman (Bob) of Hope, KS, Tim Strunk of Abilene KS, Max Strunk of Ft Lauderdale FL, Sue Krenger (Mike) of Oklahoma City, OK, Jan Sexton (Ted) of Abilene KS, Andy Strunk (Angie) of Abilene KS, and Sara Steppe (Dean) of Wakefield KS. He is also survived by a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Although Gordon led a simple and modest life, his legacy is rich in kindness, rich in faith, and rich in love. A private graveside service is planned for the family. Christine Lynn “Chrissy” Swanson, age 43, of Manhattan, died October 26, 2023.

She was born January 21, 1980, in Manhattan, the daughter of David B. and Shella S. (Cooper) Surowski.

Chrissy graduated from Manhattan High School in 1998 and then earned her associate degree in nursing from Manhattan Area Technical College.

She worked as a property manager for Real Property Leaders.

Chrissy loved her dog Charlie, enjoyed collecting and polishing rocks and going for drives in her Jeep.

Survivors include her two children: Tristan Swanson and Caitlin Swanson of Manhattan; and two sisters: Katie Surowski and Laura Sapp both of Manhattan.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.. Sunday, November 5th, at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home.

Thomas Dean Soder, a devoted husband of 51 years, father, and grandfather, peacefully departed this world on October 25, 2023, in Kansas City, Kansas, at the age of 76.

He was born on December 10, 1946, in Junction City, Kansas, to his proud parents, Louis Soder Jr. and Francis McHugh. Tom's journey was marked by resilience, love, and unwavering commitment.

Tom's early years saw him graduate from Manhattan High School in Kansas before being drafted into the Army in 1966. Stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington, he completed Basic and Advanced Individual Training. His service to his country as a combat heavy engineer took him to the airbase of Bien Hoa, Vietnam, where he served from 1968-1969 during the Tet Offensive. Following his Service in Vietnam he was honorably discharged and returned home to Kansas. His awards include the National Defense Service Ribbon, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal. Tom also qualified as an Expert Rifleman on his M-16 Rifle.

In 1970, Tom's heart found its match to Nancy Soder, and their love story blossomed into a lifelong union when they married at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in 1972.

Tom's legacy endures through his beloved family: his wife, Nancy Rae Soder (Hart) of Ogden, Kansas; his sons, Sean Thomas Soder of Topeka, Kansas, and Christopher Robert Soder of Waco, Texas; and his cherished granddaughter, Ariana Cheyenne Soder of Pensacola, Florida.

For four decades, Tom dedicated himself to the Big Red One at Fort Riley, Kansas, as a skilled woodworker before retiring in 2012. A true entrepreneur, he invested in multiple properties in and around Ogden. Tom's passion for hunting with his boys, appreciation for a good deal, and his knack for mischief, shared with his lifelong and best friend Sam Royer, brought joy to his life.

Lois “Jean” Margaret Breymeyer

Alfred J. (Al) Eichman, 92, Wamego, passed away on October 25, 2023.

Al was born on September 14, 1931, in Wamego, KS, the son of Henry and Elizabeth (Schluterman) Eichman. He graduated from Wamego High School in 1949.

He served in the US Navy Seabees during the Korean War conflict from 1951 to 1955, serving in North Africa, Newfoundland, and Cuba.

After his military service, Al joined his father, Henry, and brother, Ike, in the Wamego Sand Co. business, founded by his father in 1927. After growing the business over a period of decades, it is now known as Midwest Concrete Materials (MCM) and continues today as a 4th generation family-owned business.

Al was a Life Scout, a member of Knights of Columbus 1370, and the American Legion Post No. 0172. He served as a director for Kaw Valley State Bank (42 years) and Wamego Telecommunications Co. (40 years), including a capacity as a past Chairman and Vice President. Al was also a director for the KS Chamber of Commerce and KS Ready Mix Concrete Association. He served for several years on the Wamego Volunteer Fire Department and was a life-long member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Wamego.

Al married Margaret (Peggy) Torrey on November 26, 1955, at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Wamego, KS. They were married for 50 years, and she preceded him in death in 2006. Survivors include daughter, Melissa, his partner, Kate Coddington, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Al was preceded in death by his brother, Wilfred (Ike) Eichman, sister Marie (Eichman) Broxterman, and sister, Stella (Eichman) Cazier.

Al was generous, kind, and funny - always willing to share a good joke or pull an ornery prank. He loved spending time with his family, including their two dogs, Lassie, and Melon, and numerous granddogs. He enjoyed fishing outings with close friends as well as having a few cold ones on the golf course. He treated his family to many wonderful travel adventures, but the highlight for everyone was a surprise trip to Paris for his wife, Peggy, in 1998. His love and devotion to his family will remain in our hearts forever.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 2, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Wamego. A Rosary will be held just before the funeral, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Bernard Catholic Church. Graveside services will be held in the St. Bernard Catholic Cemetery. Herbert R. Mudd, 65, of Junction City, Kansas, passed away on October 24, 2023, at Good Shepherd Hospice House, Manhattan, Kansas. His family will bring him closer to his parents in Kansas City. A private family graveside service will take place at a later date.

Herbert was born on November 4, 1957, to Herbert and Rose Mary (Brown) Mudd in Junction City, Kansas. He attended St. Xavier's High School and was on their football team for a year. After his high school years, he went to a trade school in Indiana for his master auto-mechanic license. He found a life long career at Jim Clark's Chevrolet, where he was an active employee for 30 years. Herbert was an all around sports fan from football to Nascar to battle bots. He enjoyed sharing these hobbies with his family and friends and always made them interested too. He was a private person in character, however, he still made time to keep in touch with the ones he cared about.

He is survived by his four sisters, Pam Rethman, Carol Hines, Pat Fredlund, and Chris Judd; one brother, Phillip.

Jacob Nathanial Lehman

Carolyn Kay (Jarrett) Beggs, Crest Hill, Illinois, and formerly of Chapman, Kansas, died Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at Lightways Hospice in Joliet, Illinois, after a brief battle with cancer. She was 85.

She was born October 23, 1938, in Allen, Oklahoma, to Roy D. and Desmer (Payne) Jarrett. She attended school there and graduated from Allen High School with the Class of 1956.Following high school, she attended Hill’s Business University in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where she received secretarial training.On&nbsp; September 23, 1961, she married Robert W. “Bob” Beggs. This union produced a son, Robert Bruce Beggs, in 1964. The family moved to Chapman, Kansas, in 1966, where Carolyn remained until relocating to Illinois in 2021; her husband preceded her in death in 2008.While a homemaker, Carolyn also worked many years as a U.S. Civil Service secretary and office assistant at Fort Riley, Kansas, near Chapman. She retired in 1995.

Carolyn enjoyed following her son’s and grandchildren’s school activities. She was a lover of nature, particularly birds. And she could often be found rooting for Kansas State University athletics and the Kansas City professional teams.

 Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and by her older brother, R.D. Jarrett. Survivors include her son, Bruce Beggs (and wife Sandy); a granddaughter, Bethany (Beggs) Ortiz; a grandson, Kelley Beggs; and other relatives and friends.

The family has chosen cremation. A graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. ., Saturday, October 28, 2023 at Indian Hill Cemetery in Chapman. Donald Lee Mendonca passed away peacefully on Friday, October 20, 2023 at 5:45 pm at Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan, KS.

Don was born February 2, 1950 in Sacramento, California. He spent most of his life there until he joined the US Army after graduating high school.

The army brought him all over the states but his permanent station landed him in Fort Riley, KS. After leaving the army, Don remained in the Manhattan area where his love for cars took over! Anything fast and furious called his name!

It was during this time when he made lifelong friends with an amazing couple, Roxie Austin Hawkins and Kirby Hawkins. Kirby shared Don's enthusiasm for life which always included hunting and, of course, cars!

Don spent a few years back in California but ultimately ended up back in the Manhattan, KS area where he reignited his long-lost love with his life partner, Debbie Boller. After that reunion, the couple were inseparable, spending their time with family, friends and going to garage sales. Don also took great pride in his model car collection and his Hot Wheels collection he was building.

Don and Debbie, however, shared their lives with their most proud accomplishment, their son, Donald Lee.

Don was a family-oriented guy whose passion was his family first and cars a very close second. Anyone who knew Don could tell you all about either of them. His time with others was spent talking about all of his passions.

Don is survived by his life partner, Debbie Boller; their little puppy, Mia; their son, Donald (Shawna) Boller; 2 daughters, Val (Dustin) and Leah (Alan). He is also survived by his sister who resides in California. He also leaves behind many grandchildren and even 5 great grandchildren! He was proceeded in death by his parents.

His wishes were to be cremated, there will be a celebration of life for Don at a later date, so everyone who knew and loved him can be together to share the crazy stories of Don's dedication to his family and cars and everything in between! More information to come later!

Durango, DGO, Méx.- Antonia Santacruz Bugarin, 75, died on October 15, 2023 in Manhattan, Kansas, in the presence of her family.

She was born on January 13, 1948 in Atolinga, Zacatecas, daughter of Manuel Santa Cruz R. and Micaela Bugarin R. She lived a long time in Durango, DGO, Méx., She had a beautiful soul.

Antonia was of the Catholic faith and attended church regularly. Antonia was an animal lover. She also enjoyed spending quality time with family, playing cards, and gardening.

In May 1968 she married Antonio López Simental in Atolinga, Zacatecas. In 1969 they moved together to the city of Durango, DGO, Mexico, where they both settled and had 10 children. She was very loved and cared for by all of her family, neighbors and friends. We are going to miss her enormously.

She is survived by Antonia's 3 brothers and 2 sisters, Salvador S., Jalisco, Mexico. Maclovia S., San Antonio, TX. Onísimo S., Iduvina S., Emilio S., all 3 residing in Atolinga, Zacatecas. 9 of her children -Isidro, San Antonio, TX. J. Humberto (Claudia R.), J. Isabel (Brenda M.) J. Alfredo (Alejandra V.), Miguel Angel (Dora V.), Víctor Ubaldo (Cristina R.), all residents of Dodge City, KS. Tonia María, Jetmore KS, María Martina, Velia Margarita, Durango, DGO, Mexico. And 37 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brothers, Carlos Santa Cruz and Ramiro Santa Cruz, her son Manuel de Jesús and her grandson Christian López.

The Service Mass will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe (3231 N 14th Ave, Dodge City, KS) with the priest presiding.&nbsp;

Visitation will be from 12 p.m. to 7pm. Friday, October 27, 2023 at Ziegler Funeral Chapel (1901 N 14th Ave, Dodge City, KS). Following the visitation at 7 p.m., a rosary will be held at the Ziegler Funeral Chapel for Antonia. After all services in Dodge City, Antonia will be transported to Durango, DGO, Mexico by her family, where she will then be buried alongside her husband and son in her hometown.

Matthew Adam Stevenson Sr. of St. George, KS, age 42, passed away on October 24, 2023, at Stormont Vail Health in Topeka, KS, surrounded by his family.

Matthew was born May 22, 1981, the son of Donald and Karen (Otte) Stevenson. He attended Salina High School. He was a long-time resident of St. George, KS, and worked as a lube technician at Max Motors.

&nbsp;On February 21, 2003, he married Daisy Cook at Sedalia Church; she survives of the home. Together, they were blessed with four sons.

Matthew was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan; he enjoyed fishing and the outdoors. He had a smile that was contagious and could make anyone laugh with his witty humor. He lived for an adrenaline rush with roller coasters, casinos, dirt bikes, and fireworks. He loved music, especially rap and hip-hop, and could name most songs from the early 80s up until the current times. Most of all, he loved his family and creating memories. &nbsp;

Survivors include his wife, Daisy Stevenson; sons Matthew Stevenson Jr., Chance Stevenson, Dominic Stevenson, and Tyler Stevenson; Brother, Chris Stevenson; Father-in-Law, Dan Cook and Mother-in-Law, Patty Cook; Brothers-in-law, Tim (Tori) Cook and Danny (Becky) Cook, nieces and nephews, Danny, Corena Toby, Andrea, Alexis, Abigail, Cayson, Drake, Tristan, Gideon, and Honoria; many cousins and loving friends.

&nbsp;He was preceded in death by his parents.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 30, 2023, at 7:00 p.m., at Campanella and Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego. A Visitation will take place on Monday, October 30, 2023, from 5:00 until service time at 7:00 p.m. The family suggests memorial contributions to Campanella and Stewart Funeral Home for funeral expenses, which may be sent in care of the funeral home, 4370 Salzer Rd PO Box 48, Wamego, KS 66547.

Gerald Dee “Jerry” Lichtenhan, 82, of Wamego, Kansas, died Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at the Wamego Health Center. &nbsp;He was a long-time and active member of the community.

Jerry was born September 12,1941 in Wamego, Kansas, the son of David John and Dorothy Amelia (Holuba) Lichtenhan. He attended local schools including St. Bernard Elementary School and Wamego High School. He attended Emporia State University and earned a bachelor's degree in business. He began his career with the F.W. Woolworth Company, managing several different stores across the country. He served six years in the Army Reserves and National Guard. Jerry came home to Wamego in 1977 and used his retail management skills to own and operate Lichtenhan Hardware, the family's long-time business. The community knew when they came to the store they would be greeted by Jerry and receive personal service from him and the staff.

Jerry was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church. There he served on the Parish Council, served as Capital Campaign Co-Manager for the Building Committee and was a Fourth Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the Lion's Club and Chamber of Commerce. He was a Kansas State football fan and enjoyed reading. His passion was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and serving his community in the hardware store.

Jerry married Mary Suzanne Vice on March 13, 1971. &nbsp;After fifty-two years sharing their lives and working together, Suzanne survives at their home.

Jerry is also survived by his children; Shanel Cole (Mike), Wamego, Tiffany Hueser (Dan), Wells, and Jeffrey Lichtenhan, Tampa, Florida; and his five grandchildren, Austin Waters, Parker Waters, Emma Hueser, Gabriel Hueser, and Victoria Hueser. &nbsp;He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Robert Lichtenhan.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am, Monday, October 30, 2023, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Wamego, Kansas. &nbsp;Father Mike Peterson will be the Celebrant. &nbsp;Burial will follow in St. Bernard Catholic Cemetery. &nbsp;Jerry will lie-in-state on Sunday, October 29th, beginning at 3:00 pm with a Rosary being held at 5:00 pm, followed by a visitation until 7:00 pm at Campanella and Stewart Funeral Home. &nbsp;The family suggests memorial contributions to St. Bernard Catholic Church, and those may be sent in care of the funeral home.&nbsp;

Allen Oltjenbruns, 64, of Junction City, passed away on October 22, 2023, at Stormont Vail - Flint Hills Campus.&nbsp; A graveside service will take place at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery Monday, October 30, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. with military honors.

Allen was born on November 8, 1958, to Willard and Daisy (Hogsett) Oltjenbruns in Holyoke, Colorado.&nbsp; After high school, he decided to enlist into the U.S. Army as Heavy Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic and served honorably for 13 years. While having dinner in a shared unit mess hall, he met his future wife over a plate of spaghetti. After serving in the Army, he spent 30 years as a railroad mechanic in Junction City, then transitioned into a civilian contractor working on military vehicles. Allen felt right at home working with his military brothers again. Harley Davidsons and Nascar were Allen's favorite past times. He enjoyed sharing these hobbies with his family.

Allen is survived by his wife, Linda; one son, Christopher (Vicky); one brother, Lester (Denice), and a host of other loving family and friends. He was preceded in life by his parents.

Allen Oltjenbruns

Shirley Morganfield, age 89, of Manhattan, died October 21, 2023.

Shirley was born in Lyons, Kansas in 1933. The family moved to Junction City, Kansas when she was very young. After graduating from Junction City High School in 1951, she attended both Kansas State University and The University of Colorado in Boulder. Her time in Boulder included more time learning how to snow ski than studying, but also sparked a lifelong dream to live in the Rocky Mountains.

In 1956, she began her career traveling the world when she accepted a position with Continental Airlines as a flight attendant. These were the glory days of commercial flight and she loved her adventures that took her to Hong Kong, Tokyo, Europe, Hawaii and everywhere in between. She spent time based out of Denver, Miami, El Paso and ultimately Los Angeles. She developed lifelong relationships during her time flying and has remained good friends with many of her “flying days” friends/roommates over the years, however this group has gotten smaller and smaller as the years go by.

Her son Kevin was born in 1963, while she was based in Los Angeles. Within the next year she moved back to Kansas and worked at various jobs over the years including real estate and as a civilian employee at Fort Riley. Shirley was also committed to going back to school and received her Master’s Degree in 1975 from Kansas State University with a degree in Early Childhood Development. She moved to the Black Hills of South Dakota in 1976 where she worked as a counselor at the Box Elder Job Corps Center in Nemo, South Dakota until her retirement in 1994.

Retirement was spent in Colorado, living in Highlands Ranch, Littleton and ultimately Estes Park, Colorado where she built her dream home in the Rocky Mountains. Health issues prompted another move to Gold Canyon, Arizona where she enjoyed the winters in Arizona and summers in Colorado, before moving back to Kansas to be closer to family. Her family has many great memories of spending the holidays in Estes Park, CO and Gold Canyon, AZ over the years.

Shirley was preceded in death by her mother, Ruby (Rathbun) Morganfield, father, William “Bud” Morganfield, and brother Kenneth.

Shirley is survived by her son Kevin (Lucy) of Manhattan, Ks; four grandchildren; Benjamin (Gabby) of Rapid City, SD, Bryce (Emily) of Independence, MO; Jace of Manhattan, KS and Kellie of Manhattan, KS; and 4 great grandchildren, Pierson, Regan, Ariella and Loey.

Private services will be held at a later date.

Growing up on a farm in Idaho, she spent a lot of time working with dairy cows. Around her 10th birthday, mom and dad moved her to Chico, California, where she met the love of her life, Glenn and they were married by 1962. She was an avid musician with the church. Playing the mandolin, the auto-harp, and singing was her way of worshipping Jesus. Her family will always have fond memories of her singing during the Christmas season.Violet is survived by her loving husband, Glenn (Kenny); one son, Bobby Ray; one daughter, Tammy (Phillip) Mobley; two sisters, Ruth and Carol; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.She was preceded by her parents; one brother, Clifford and one sister, Susan.&nbsp;&nbsp;
