Dorothy Jean Aebi Wells went to heaven to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 7, 2024, at age 90.
She was born on September 30, 1933, in Herington, KS to Milton and Marjorie (Johnson) Aebi. She was the granddaughter of a Swiss immigrant. She grew up on the family farm north of Woodbine and graduated as valedictorian of the class of 1951 from Woodbine High School. She had only one sibling, Darrell, who died in a car accident in 1961. Jean married her lifelong love, Albert Edward Wells of Dade County, GA, on August 22, 1951, in The Chapel of the Transfiguration in Grand Teton National Park, WY. Al preceded her to heaven on August 7, 2022.
They made their home in Enterprise for most of their 70 years of marriage. Jean was a homemaker while her children were young, and later worked at Froelich’s Grocery Store in Enterprise, and then at the Dickinson County Bank. She was a member of Enterprise EHU and served on the Enterprise Library Board.She attended Emmanuel Church in Abilene and was active in a women's Bible study until her health prohibited it.
In addition to Al, she was also preceded in death by her parents, her brother Darrell Aebi, and son-in-law Ray Van Sickle. Jean is survived by her daughter Christiane Van Sickle of Newton, and son Kenyon (Kathy) of Olathe. Also, grandchildren Melodi (Caleb) Wood, Brent (Jennifer) Van Sickle, Abbie Bazan and Ashley (Francisco) Pacheco as well as 7 great-grandchildren: Shane and Sawyer Wood, Brook, Braden and Bryce Van Sickle, and Jude and Oliver Bazan. She was devoted to her family.
A funeral service will be held at Danner Funeral Home, 501 N. Buckeye in Abilene on Friday, April 12th at 2:00 p.m. with her grandsons Pastor Brent Van Sickle and Pastor Caleb Wood officiating. The family will receive friends for 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow in the Woodbine Cemetery.
