 <li>Kansas State (5-17, 1-12 Big 12) returns home on Wednesday to host No. 23/24 Kansas (15-7, 9-5 Big 12) in the 295th edition of the Dillons Sunflower Showdown at 7 p.m., CT at Bramlage Coliseum. It is the sixth-most played rivalry (294) and eighth-most continuously played (115) in NCAA Division I history. The rivals have met at least twice a year every season since 1912. Wednesday’s game will air on Big 12 Now with Rich Hollenberg (play-by-play) and Robbie Hummel (analyst). </li><li>This will be the Wildcats’ 10th matchup against a Top 25 opponent this season, including the fifth in a row (No. 23/22 Kansas, No. 13/11 Texas Tech, No. 13/13 Texas, No. 23/22 Oklahoma State and No. 23/24 Kansas). It will mark the first time in school history that a team has faced 5 consecutive Top 25 foes, while it continues a stretch of 7 ranked foes in an 8-game stretch. Wildcats will host the Jayhawks Wednesday night

LAWRENCE—The University of Kansas Athletic Director Jeff Long issued a statement&nbsp; Monday following the weekend DUI arrest of head baseball coach Ritch Price.

"After meeting with Coach Price this afternoon, I informed him that he has been suspended for the next two weeks from all team related activities as a result of his DUI arrest this past weekend."

"I also met with the team to inform them of this decision. While I have tremendous respect and appreciation for Coach Price and the manner in which he conducts our baseball program, as well as the leadership he provides our young men, in this instance he failed to meet our expectations. Coach Price expressed to me his sincere remorse for putting himself in that position and the negative impact it will have on the program. I am confident he will learn from this dangerous lapse in judgement and so will his current and future baseball student-athletes.”

In a separate statement, Price said, “I would like to apologize to my family, players, KU administration, alumni, coaches, staff, as well as our donors for embarrassing them, the University of Kansas, our entire athletic department and myself."

 As I shared with my team, the consequences from my actions on Saturday night could have jeopardized members of our community and was irresponsible. I have always held myself to the same high standards as those of my players and take full responsibility for my actions. I will do everything in my power to ensure that this type of behavior will never happen again. I love the University of Kansas, our athletic department and baseball program. Through my actions moving forward, I hope to regain the trust of all Jayhawks.”

Price joined the KU baseball program in 2002 and became head coach the following year. The team has won over 530 games during his time leading the Jayhawks.

Jeff Long further announces that Associate Head Coach, Ryan Graves, will serve as Head Coach during the suspension.

AMES, Iowa (AP) — Jalen Wilson scored 22 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for his fourth straight double-double as Kansas broke away in the final nine minutes to defeat Iowa State 64-50. 

Iowa State led for all but the final two seconds of the first half when David McCormack hit a jumper to knot the score at 24-24. The Jayhawks scored the first six points of the second half and led the rest of the way. McCormack scored 13 points with eight rebounds, Christian Braun added 11 points, nine after halftime. Jalen Coleman-Lands led the Cyclones  with 20 points, including three 3-pointers, and Rasir Bolton added 13 points.

Tuesday night high school basketball scores

MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) — Andrew Jones scored 24 points and No. 13 Texas held off Kansas State 80-77 on Tuesday night. Greg Brown added 17 points and Courtney Ramey had 14 for the Longhorns, who snapped a three-game skid. Mike McGuirl missed a 3-point attempt from half court in the waning seconds for the Wildcats, who have lost 11 straight. 

Kansas State hasn’t won since Dec. 29. Nijel Pack scored 22 points and McGuirl had 18 for the Wildcats. The Longhorns tied a season high with 13 3-pointers, making their first six attempts and finishing at 56.5% from beyond the arc.

MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) — Andrew Jones scored 24 points and No. 13 Texas held off Kansas State 80-77 on Tuesday night. Greg Brown added 17 points and Courtney Ramey had 14 for the Longhorns, who snapped a three-game skid. Mike McGuirl missed a 3-point attempt from half court in the waning seconds for the Wildcats, who have lost 11 straight. Kansas State hasn’t won since Dec. 29. Nijel Pack scored 22 points and McGuirl had 18 for the Wildcats. The Longhorns tied a season high with 13 3-pointers, making their first six attempts and finishing at 56.5% from beyond the arc.

Texas outlasts Kansas State

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Chiefs placed outside linebackers coach Britt Reid on administrative leave while an investigation continues into a crash that injured two children. 

The team has said Reid, who is head coach Andy Reid's son, was involved in a multi-vehicle crash last Thursday that injured two young children near the team’s training complex next to Arrowhead Stadium. 

A 5-year-old girl, identified by the Chiefs as Ariel Young, remained in critical condition on Tuesday. The Chiefs said the team has contacted the girl's family and is offering support and resources to them. Andy Reid said this week that Britt underwent surgery after the crash.&nbsp;

Friends have established a <a href="https://www.gofundme.com/f/5-year-old-ariel-medical-expenses">GoFundMe</a> page to raise funds to pay the medical expenses for Ariel.

Andy Reid said Sunday night that his “heart bleeds” for those injured in the crash involving his son.

The crash occurred&nbsp; two days before the Chiefs were due to leave for the Super Bowl in Tampa, Florida. A vehicle had run out of gas on a highway entrance ramp and another vehicle had parked nearby to assist when the younger Reid’s pickup truck struck the left front of the first car before hitting the rear of the second car.

Britt Reid told police he had “two or three drinks” and had a prescription for Adderall when the accident occurred, according to a search warrant filed late Thursday night.&nbsp;

Britt Reid has been in legal trouble several times.

He was arrested in January 2007 in Pennsylvania a road-rage incident in which he pointed a gun at another driver, and he was sentenced to up to 23 months in jail and five years of probation after pleading guilty to charges of carrying an unlicensed firearm, simple assault, possession of a controlled substance and possession of an instrument of crime.

Seven months later, Reid was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to up to six months in jail.

Reid appeared to get his life on track, beginning his coaching career as an intern for his father with the Eagles in 2009. He spent the next two years as a graduate assistant at Temple, his alma mater, before joining the staff in Kansas City.

After two seasons as a defensive quality control coach, Reid was promoted to assistant defensive line coach. He then spent three seasons as the defensive line coach before shifting to outside linebackers for the past two seasons.

His father refused to say the traffic accident near Arrowhead Stadium last week had anything to do with the outcome of the Super Bowl.

The Dillons Sunflower Showdown Moved to February 17

Charlotte, NC (AP) — Marty Schottenheimer, who won 200 regular-season games with four NFL teams thanks to his “Martyball” brand of smash-mouth football but regularly fell short in the playoffs, has died. He was 77. Family friend Bob Moore says Schottenheimer died late Monday night at a hospice in Charlotte, North Carolina. 

He was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2014. He was moved to a hospice on Jan. 30. Schottenheimer was the eighth-winningest coach in NFL history. 

He went 200-126-1 in 21 seasons with the Cleveland Browns, Kansas City Chiefs, Washington Redskins and San Diego Chargers.

The Chiefs named Schottenheimer head coach on January 24, 1989. He won 101 games and lost 58 during his ten seasons in Kansas City.

His success was rooted in “Martyball,” a conservative approach that featured a strong running game and tough defense.

KANSAS CITY (AP) — Kansas City Chiefs assistant coach Britt Reid, the son of head coach Andy Reid, was involved in a multi-vehicle crash late Thursday that injured two young children near the team’s training complex adjacent to Arrowhead Stadium. 

The team confirmed in a statement Friday that Britt Reid was involved in the accident but declined additional comment. Local television station KSHB reported that Reid told an officer on the scene that he had “two or three drinks,” according to a search warrant filed just before midnight. Reid then complained of stomach pain and also was taken to an area hospital.

The Kansas City Chiefs will try to become the ninth team and the first since the New England Patriots in 2003 and '04 to repeat as Super Bowl champions when they face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday. It will be the first time the winning quarterbacks of the previous two titles have met in the Super Bowl in the Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes and Bucs counterpart Tom Brady, who won his previous six titles with New England. The Chiefs beat the Tampa Bay 27-24 in Week 12. Tampa Bay is the first team to play in a Super Bowl in its home stadium.

Chiefs aim to repeat as Super Bowl champions

MANHATTAN, Kan.&nbsp;–<a>&nbsp;</a>Kansas State head coach&nbsp;Chris Klieman&nbsp;put together the final pieces of his third signing class in Manhattan on Wednesday as two more student-athletes have agreed to be part of the Wildcat football program.

Officially signing on Wednesday were Manhattan defensive tackle&nbsp;Damian Ilalio&nbsp;and Topeka defensive back&nbsp;Desmond Purnell.

Coupled with the early signing period, K-State’s 2021 Signing Class features 16 high school student-athletes.

This year’s class includes 10 players on defense and six on offense. The class is comprised of four defensive backs, three linebackers, two apiece of defensive tackles, offensive linemen and wide receivers, a defensive end, one running back and a quarterback. The state of Kansas led the way with six signees, while there were two from Colorado and two from Georgia.

Of the 16 total signees, five are currently on campus and will take part in spring practices, which begin on Wednesday, March 3.

The players from this year’s class that are currently enrolled include: wide receiver&nbsp;Brenen Hawkins, linebacker&nbsp;DaVonte Pritchard, quarterback&nbsp;Jake Rubley, offensive lineman&nbsp;Austin Weiner&nbsp;and defensive tackle&nbsp;Brayden Wood. The Wildcats also inked five transfers prior to the start of the spring semester: tight end&nbsp;Daniel Imatorbhebhe, defensive backs&nbsp;Julius Brents&nbsp;and&nbsp;Craig Yeast, defensive tackle&nbsp;Timmy Horne&nbsp;and linebacker&nbsp;Eric Munoz.
