Dorothy Arminta (Dieffenbaugh) Facklam , 95, went to be with the Lord on September 7, 2022. She was surrounded by family and passed peacefully at Abilene Memorial Hospital, Abilene, Kansas. Dorothy was born January 13, 1927, on the family farm near Manchester, Kansas to Clarence and Arminta (Ausherman) Dieffenbaugh. Dorothy attended Keystone School, a one-room schoolhouse near her childhood home, then concluded her education at Abilene High School, graduating with the class of 1945. On June 3, 1945, she married Floyd Dean Facklam. They were married for 72 years before his passing on March 30, 2018. Dorothy then moved to Frontier Estates where she made friends and was well loved until health reasons forced her into nursing care. Dorothy was a loving homemaker and hard worker, helping to provide for her family by working various jobs: Nockey’s In and Out, Bankes Drug Store, Abilene Memorial Hospital as a housekeeper, then Frontier Estates as a receptionist. She was a faithful servant of the church, attending First Baptist Church of Abilene her entire life. Dorothy is survived by her brother, Earl Dieffenbaugh of Las Vegas, Nevada, her son Duane (Karen) Facklam, daughters Darlene (Rod) Riffel and Diana (Jerry) Rankin, and her daugther-in-law , Kathleen (Clark Facklam) Williams. Timothy Morgan Nelson was born October 7, 1959 in Manhattan, Kansas, the third child of Robert and Lavon (Shea) Nelson. Timothy passed peacefully on September 9, 2022 surrounded by his family in his home in rural Chapman, Kansas.

Tim spent his youth roaming the Flint Hills south of Manhattan and enjoyed hunting and fishing with his father and grandfather. He received his education in Manhattan schools, graduating from Manhattan High in 1977. He pursued four years of Apprenticeship training through Plumbing and Pipefitters Local 411, licensing as a Journeyman plumber --following in the footsteps of his father, Robert. He loved doing commercial plumbing and helped build or refurbish many of the buildings on Kansas State University and Fort Riley. He received his Master Plumber license and was an ownership partner in starting the Mid-State Mechanical business in Manhattan. Timothy taught the plumbing trade at Flint Hills Job Corp for a number of years before returning to commercial plumbing to participate in the build of the Biosecurity Research Institute on Kansas State University. He served as the buildings Facility Utility Manager for several years before returning to commercial plumbing. On November 26, 1982 Timothy married the love of his life, Deborah A. Diehl in Manhattan, Kansas at First Lutheran Church. To this union two children were born. The Nelson family loved to travel and spent many Spring Breaks on the Colorado ski slopes, cruising the Caribbean or visiting many cities of the United States. Since 1991, Timothy has farmed south of Chapman with his wife and son. He was the happiest when harvesting his crops and in June when Deb was riding in the combine with him he told her “It is so beautiful from up here.” Knowing it would be his final harvest, he insisted on bringing in the last load of his 2022 wheat. He is survived by his wife Dr. Deborah Diehl Nelson of the home, a son Justin Nelson and wife Courtney of Chapman, a daughter Dr. Kaitlynn Christiansen and husband Marshall of Manhattan, three beloved granddaughters Mackenzie and Allison Christiansen and Hollis Nelson, a brother Michael Nelson and wife Lindsay of Manhattan, a sister Tamra Nelson of Woodward, Ok., sister-in-law Karman Diehl of Chapman, brother-in-law Donald Diehl and wife Linda of Abilene, and many loved nieces and nephews. Timothy was anxiously waiting to meet his first grandson, Morgan James Nelson.

Timothy was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, and one infant brother Robert Douglas.

LoRene Marie (Straub) Wille, age 91, died September 7, 2022, surrounded by family and loved ones, at the Good Samaritan Society -Valley Vista Care Home in Wamego,

She was born August 30, 1931, in Wamego, Kansas, the oldest of eleven children born to Otto J. and Arleen K, (Immenschuh) Straub.

LoRene was a member of the Seven Dolors Catholic Church, Seven Dolors Altar Society, VFW Post 1786 Ladies Auxiliary, United Commercial Travelers, the Riley County Homemakers Extension, along with serving as leader for the VFW Junior Girls Unit, and supporting Boy Scout Troop #72, and the Girl Scouts of the Manhattan area.

LoRene had an in-home Day Care Center for over 45 years. She truly considered the families she cared for to be her extended family and her door was always open.

Her love for God and her faith was unwavering. LoRene felt her greatest accomplishment was her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.

She was married to Emery L. Wille on December 26, 1950, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Flush, Kansas. They lived in Wamego for several years before moving to Manhattan. Survivors include three sons: Brad Wille and his wife Teresa of Manhattan, KS, Jeffery Wille and his wife Karen of Wamego, KS and Joseph Wille of Manhattan, KS; five daughters BeLinda Cutright of Wamego, KS, Jennifer Eickhoff and her husband Bob of Kansas City, KS, Cristina Mabe of Lubbock, TX, Mary Lynn Dooley and her husband Chris of Manhattan, KS, and Marlene Phillips and her husband Robert of Green City, MO; one brother, Otto Straub and his wife Jan of Clay Center, KS; 33 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

LoRene was preceded in death by her husband Emery on November 13, 2015, two sons: Michael Wille in 1951, and David Wille in 2006: two great granddaughters, Aiyanna Lindsay in 2009 and Serenity Nichole Reich in 2016, five brothers Arthur, Rapheal, Delafield, Albinus and Anthony Straub; and four sisters Philomena Straub, Barbara Straub, Louise Hoffett, and Dorothy Lyons.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, September 19th, at Seven Dolors Catholic Church with Father Ryan McCandless and Father Kerry Ninemire as Celebrants. Interment will follow in the Sunrise Cemetery in Manhattan.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 5:30 p .m. Sunday, September 18th at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home. A Parish Vigil will follow at 5:30 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home chapel.

Linda Ann Irby, 59, of Ogden, KS, formerly of Detroit, MI, Manhattan, Junction City; Ogden, passed away Thursday, September 8th, at Research Medical Center, Kansas City, Missouri. She was in U.S. Army as a Chef at Ft. Riley. Linda retired after 21 yrs, retiring in 2001. After retiring she became a landlord in Manhattan and the Junction City area.

On Monday, May 6, 1963, in Peoria, IL Linda was born to Willie Mae (Huston) Irby, of Detroit, MI and the late U.V. Irby. Linda received a Business Degree.

Linda is survived by a daughter, Dannetta Irby Green, of Tampa, Florida; a son, Angelo W. Corbett, of the home; two sisters, Yvette Irby, of Detroit, Michigan; Trisha Irby, of Detroit, Michigan, two brothers, Calvin Irby, of Detroit, Michigan; Terry Irby, of Dayton, Ohio; and her ex-husband: William Corbett, Greensboro, North Carolina. Mary Ann White, 90, passed away on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, at Wellspring Care Home in Westmoreland.&nbsp; She was the loving wife of Ralph D White and mother to her four children;&nbsp;Randy, Kara, Gary, and Brian.

Mary Ann was born on May 4, 1932 (She would often mention she had an easy birthdate t0 remember: 5-4-3-2) to Merle Revere and Lillian May (Viar) Henre in Kansas City, KS. She received her degree in Education and Home Economics from Kansas State University in 1954.&nbsp; On December 4, 1955 Mary Ann married Ralph Duane White. Together they resided in; Moscow, KS, Angel Fire, NM, Wamego, KS and Westmoreland, KS.&nbsp;

Mary Ann had a passion for service to God, her family, and her community. After recovering from the culture shock of city to country, Mary Ann became the quintessential farmer’s wife embracing and loving life in a farming community.&nbsp; She taught first grade for a few years before starting family (four children in five years). Mary Ann served in various aspects of her church (choir, Methodist Women’s groups, bazaar, Sunday School); her community (4-H, County Fair, teaching piano, Senior Center); and the school district (substitute teacher, fund raising, attended her children’s many school events and activities.)

Mary Ann was an avid seamstress and delighted in craft making. Mary Ann’s flair for hospitality was apparent in her ability to prepare and serve a well-balanced home cooked meal, regardless of location. Mary Ann and Ralph enjoyed traveling.&nbsp; Trips included camping and visits with the family and friends, touring every state in the USA, and many destinations around the world.&nbsp;

Mary Ann and Ralph were members of Kansas Flying Farmers establishing life-long friendships as they flew to “fly-ins” and attended conventions. Mary Ann was known for her love of babies and dogs, willingness to help, her strong faith, kindness and compassion.&nbsp; A long life well lived.

Mary Ann survived by her husband Ralph, her four children and their spouses, Randy, Kara (Augustine), Gary (Shalah), and Brian (Tina), her grandchildren; Travis, Becky, Kerensa, Jesse, Josie May, Henry, Elliot, Robert, Blake, Emily, and Maggie and 12 Great grandchildren.&nbsp; Survivors also include her brother-in-law Ford White and sister-in-law Barbara Henry and many nieces and nephews.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Merle and Lillian, a sister Martha Jane Morgan and a brother James Merle Henre.&nbsp;

A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 23, 2022 at the United Methodist Church in Moscow, KS followed by a burial. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2022 at Campanella-Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego, KS. Both services will have visitation at 10:00 a.m. followed by a service at 10:30 a.m.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Mary Ann White, 90, passed away on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, at Wellspring Care Home in Westmoreland.&nbsp; She was the loving wife of Ralph D White and mother to her four children;&nbsp;Randy, Kara, Gary, and Brian.Mary Ann was born on May 4, 1932 (She would often mention she had an easy birthdate t0 remember: 5-4-3-2) to Merle Revere and Lillian May (Viar) Henre in Kansas City, KS. She received her degree in Education and Home Economics from Kansas State University in 1954.&nbsp; On December 4, 1955 Mary Ann married Ralph Duane White. Together they resided in; Moscow, KS, Angel Fire, NM, Wamego, KS and Westmoreland, KS.&nbsp;Mary Ann had a passion for service to God, her family, and her community. After recovering from the culture shock of city to country, Mary Ann became the quintessential farmer’s wife embracing and loving life in a farming community.&nbsp; She taught first grade for a few years before starting family (four children in five years). Mary Ann served in various aspects of her church (choir, Methodist Women’s groups, bazaar, Sunday School); her community (4-H, County Fair, teaching piano, Senior Center); and the school district (substitute teacher, fund raising, attended her children’s many school events and activities.)Mary Ann was an avid seamstress and delighted in craft making. Mary Ann’s flair for hospitality was apparent in her ability to prepare and serve a well-balanced home cooked meal, regardless of location. Mary Ann and Ralph enjoyed traveling.&nbsp; Trips included camping and visits with the family and friends, touring every state in the USA, and many destinations around the world.&nbsp; Mary Ann and Ralph were members of Kansas Flying Farmers establishing life-long friendships as they flew to “fly-ins” and attended conventions. Mary Ann was known for her love of babies and dogs, willingness to help, her strong faith, kindness and compassion.&nbsp; A long life well lived. Mary Ann survived by her husband Ralph, her four children and their spouses, Randy, Kara (Augustine), Gary (Shalah), and Brian (Tina), her grandchildren; Travis, Becky, Kerensa, Jesse, Josie May, Henry, Elliot, Robert, Blake, Emily, and Maggie and 12 Great grandchildren.&nbsp; Survivors also include her brother-in-law Ford White and sister-in-law Barbara Henry and many nieces and nephews.Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Merle and Lillian, a sister Martha Jane Morgan and a brother James Merle Henre.&nbsp;A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 23, 2022 at the United Methodist Church in Moscow, KS followed by a burial. &nbsp;Tammie McDiffett, 61, of Emporia, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday (September 7, 2022) at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka.

Tammie was a member of the First Christian Church in Emporia.&nbsp; She was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan, enjoyed crocheting and knitting and loved being Aunt Tammie to her many nieces and nephews.

&nbsp;Living with a disability throughout her life, Tammie still had a heart for helping others and had worked as an aid for various nursing homes.

Survivors include two sisters, Ella Mae Kraus of Alma, KS and Joyce Massey (Gale) of Aurora, CO; two brothers, Donald L. McDiffett of Altus, OK and Roger McDiffett of Coalmont, TN; and her many nieces and nephews.

Tammie was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Dorris Whitman-Taylor.

Cremation arrangements are in the care of Campanella &amp; Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego.

Penny Sue (Clark) Morse, 57, of Wamego, passed away September 8, 2022 at home with family at her side. &nbsp; She fought a courageous battle against metastatic breast cancer.

Penny was born on August 7, 1965, in Lancaster, CA, the daughter of James and Judy (Davis) Clark. &nbsp;

On September 27, 1986, she was united in marriage to Robert H. Morse, Jr. of Wamego, KS.&nbsp; He survives of the home.

She is also survived by her children:&nbsp; daughter, Tara Morse, Wamego, KS; sons, Robert (Amy) Morse III, Wamego, KS and Curtis (Valerie) Morse, Emporia, KS; father, James Clark; brother Jim (Terry) Clark; sister, Jody (Mike) Hooper; 2 grandchildren, Kaden and Vita Morse; and 3 step-grandchildren, Taylor, Preston and Ethan.&nbsp; She was proceeded in death by her mother, Judy Clark.&nbsp;

When her children were young, she ran a daycare caring for many children.&nbsp; She also worked for Wamego, St. Marys and Council Grove Telecommunications Systems, Inc., Dyers, Aero-Mod, and Browns Chevrolet.

Her hobbies were cross-stitching, flower gardening, baking, and playing cards.

Visitation is at the Campanella &amp; Stewart Funeral Home on Thursday, September 15, 2022 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.&nbsp; Funeral services are September 16, 2022, 2:00 p.m. at the Cross Point Church in Wamego, burial is at St. George Cemetery.&nbsp;Penny will lie in-state at the funeral home beginning at 2:00 p.m. Thursday.

An avid reader, enthusiastic football fan (especially K-State), competitive card player and lifelong Democrat, Barbara will be remembered as a gifted quilter, fantastic storyteller, an excellent cook with a passion for music. She had a strong faith and lived with humility and grace. Barbara’s greatest joy was spending time with her fun, quirky family. She was truly a wonderful daughter, sister, aunt, mother and grandmother.

Survivors include her children, Mary Higgs (Brad); David Lusk; and granddaughter, Kendall Lusk.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Larry; and two sisters, Jo Burgess and Cherlyn Smith.

Kathryn Marie “Kathy” (Lang) Grannell, 84, of Overland Park, Kansas died on Saturday, September 3, 2022, at Advent Health South Overland Park Hospital after a short illness.

&nbsp;She was born February 18, 1938, in Great Bend Kansas to her parents Elmer Joseph and Kathryn Marie Dolechek Lang.&nbsp; She was raised by her grandparents Frank Joseph and Ida Adeline “Addie” Reif Lang. She was a 1956 graduate of Hoisington High School and attended Marymount College.&nbsp; Kathy worked for the State of Kansas, Topeka.&nbsp; While raising her family in Wamego, Kansas she held positions as the Welcome Wagon Greeter, bookkeeper for the Ford Motor Company, and finally for many years as the Branch Manager of Columbia Savings and Loan.

Kathy was a member of the St. Bernard Catholic Church, Wamego, for over 50 years, serving on the funeral committee, finance committee, and parish council.

Kathy was extremely active in the Wamego community in various organizations including the Red Cross Blood Drive, Girl Scouts, Wamego Chamber of Commerce, Wamego High School mentor program, and the local election board. In her retirement, she enjoyed her bridge group and activities with the Kaw Valley State Bank’s Heritage Club. She was an avid card and game player and spent hours completing picture and crossword puzzles.&nbsp; In the last couple of years, Kathy moved to Overland Park, Kansas, where she was surrounded by her children and their families.

Kathy married James Eugene “Gene” Grannell on July 29, 1961, at St. John Evangelist Catholic Church in Hoisington, Kansas.&nbsp; He preceded her in death on November 30, 2001. She is survived by her son Mark (Christy) Grannell, Gardner, Kansas; four daughters, Gina (Tom) Gawlick, Overland Park, Kansas; Lisa Bartlett, Gardner, Kansas; Lori Grannell (David Demarest), Coral Springs, Florida, Dana Minihan, Gardner; Kansas; two half-sisters: Evelyn Huggins, Topeka, Kansas, Karen Kuntz, Larned, Kansas; 12 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren with more on the way.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday (September 13, 2022) at 10:30 a.m.at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Wamego, Kansas with Father Mike Peterson officiating. &nbsp;Burial will follow at St. Bernard Catholic Cemetery.

SGT James Franklin "J.B." Brown, 79, Junction City, KS, passed away Sunday, August 28, 2022, at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, KS. Cremation will take place. A graveside service with military honors will take place 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 8, 2022 at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery. Mr. James Franklin Brown was born on May 27, 1943 in Croom, MD. James was the youngest son of Thomas P. Brown Sr. and Lucille (Spriggs) Brown’s nine children. He was educated in the Upper Marlboro School System prior to being drafted into the United States Army in 1968. Mr. Brown honorably served his country for more than a decade, with ten years of Active military service and two years of Reserve service. After completing Basic Training at Fort Bragg, NC, he served tours in Vietnam, South Korea and various other military bases culminating at Fort Riley, KS. Serving as a door gunner while assigned to the 119th Air Assault Battalion (CROCS), Sgt. Brown earned a myriad of commendations to include the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Commendation Medal, the Vietnamese Civil Action Medal, Overseas Service Bar (2), Good Conduct Medal (2), Drivers Badge, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/ Palm (Individual), Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/Palm (Unit), and Expert Qualification Badges for the M-14 and M-16 . Upon his honorable discharge from military service, Mr. Brown became a Federal Civil Service employee at Fort Riley, KS. He retired after thirty years of dedicated service to the men and women of the First Infantry Division and Fort Riley. Mr. Brown received many commendations and awards during his Federal Service. Mr. Brown met his loving and devoted wife, Dorothy J. (Palmore) McKinnis in 1984 in Junction City, KS. The couple were united in marriage on November 17, 1999. Mr. Brown was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He could be easily relied upon for his quick wit and humor. As his health declined, what he enjoyed most of all was spending quiet time at home with Dorothy listening to music, watching old westerns and horse racing.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; daughters Jynell Proctor (Kevin Mack), Brooklyn Park, MD; Angela McKinnis, Virginia Beach, VA; Carolyn Bardolome (Didus), Norfolk, VA; Tanya Hockensmith (Tony), Gettysburg, PA; Chandra Ward (Kansas City, KS); and his sister, Claudia Smith (Landover, MD). He is also survived by nineteen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Brown was preceded in death by an infant son, his mother and father, brothers Thomas Brown, Jr., Leroy M. Brown, sisters Beatrice R. Spencer, Alice Madden, Henrietta Cunningham, Cora Stancil and Pauline Brown. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital or the Wounded Warrior Project in the name of James Franklin Brown. Mr. Brown was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He could be easily relied upon for his quick wit and humor. As his health declined, what he enjoyed most of all was spending quiet time at home with Dorothy listening to music, watching old westerns and horse racing. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; daughters Jynell Proctor (Kevin Mack), Brooklyn Park, MD; Angela McKinnis, Virginia Beach, VA; Carolyn Bardolome (Didus), Norfolk, VA; Tanya Hockensmith (Tony), Gettysburg, PA; Chandra Ward (Kansas City, KS); and his sister, Claudia Smith (Landover, MD). He is also survived by nineteen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Brown was preceded in death by an infant son, his mother and father, brothers Thomas Brown, Jr., Leroy M. Brown, sisters Beatrice R. Spencer, Alice Madden, Henrietta Cunningham, Cora Stancil and Pauline Brown. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital or the Wounded Warrior Project in the name of James Franklin Brown. Patty “Pat” Joan Erickson, age 86 of Leonardville, passed away Friday, Sept. 2, 2022 at the Leonardville Nursing Home.&nbsp;

She was born on August 26, 1936 in Manhattan, the daughter of Floyd Thomas and Elsie Alice (Henton) Hohman. She graduated from Randolph High School in 1954.&nbsp;

On August 14, 1955 in Topeka, she was married to Jerald Edwin Erickson. They celebrated 64 years of marriage before Jerry’s passing in 2019.&nbsp;

In high school, Pat worked at Beckman’s General Store in old Randolph. It was there that stories were later told about Jerry frequenting the store to buy bread just to see Pat. After marriage, Pat learned what it took to be a dairy farmer’s wife. Pat and Jerry ran Erickson’s Short Stop in Randolph. She later worked parttime for Siefert’s clothing in Manhattan, Ginger’s boutique in Clay Center and at Central Office in Clay Center. She was a member of the Walsburg Lutheran Church.&nbsp;

Patty is survived by three daughters, Joyce Graham and husband Phil of Manhattan, Karla Buchanan and husband Buck of Leonardville and Lora Brobst and husband Bryce of Hiawatha; seven grandchildren, Jason Graham (Emily), Erika Graham, Lee Buchanan (Ann), Dustin Buchanan (Traci), Megan Brobst, Lindsy Long (Josh) and Molly Spire (Cody) and eleven great grandchildren, Brody Buchanan, Clay Buchanan, Adelyn Buchanan, Payton Selby, Landyn Brobst, Ryker Massey, Amara Brobst, Kevin Long, Charlie Long, Kinsley Spire and Benjamin Spire.

In addition to her husband Jerry, she was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Russell, Stanley, Gail and Robert Hohman, and three sisters, Gladys Floberg, Murle Easterberg and Juanita Kline.&nbsp;

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 12, 2022 at the Leonardville City Cemetery with Pastor Kevin Larson officiating.&nbsp;

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the Walsburg Lutheran Church. Contributions may be left in care of the Anderes- Pfeifley Funeral Home.

Patty “Pat” Joan Erickson

Raymond L. Lindquist, age 95, of Waterville, passed away on Thursday, September 1, 2022, at Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan.

Ray was born August 28, 1927, on a farm near Waterville.&nbsp; His parents were Albin H. and Estella P. (Bergeson) Lindquist.&nbsp; He graduated from Waterville High School with the class of 1945.&nbsp; A few months after graduation and few weeks before his eighteenth birthday, he joined the US Navy serving in the Pacific Theater of WWII. On June 12, 1949 Ray married Dorothy J. Clark at her parent’s home in Barnes.&nbsp;

After the war Ray attended Kansas State University for a year.&nbsp; He then taught at the Harbaugh Country School. Ray went on to graduate from Kansas State University in 1960.&nbsp; After teaching he went to work with his cousin Ken in a construction company they owned together.&nbsp; In 1972 Ray and Dorothy purchased the Waterville Lumber Company which he operated until his retirement in 1992 when his son Randy took over.

Ray was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church where he served on the Church Council, Springer Post 332 of the American Legion in Waterville for over seventy years, the Masons Sutton Lodge #85 of the A.F.&amp;A.M. in Waterville, also for over seventy years, the Waterville Lions Club, Waterville Chamber of Commerce and he had served on the Waterville City Council and as the Mayor.&nbsp; He also had served as on the Fire Department for over thirty years.

Ray loved his town and was always ready and willing to do his part.&nbsp; In addition to all the other things he did for Waterville, he was proud that he helped build the Lipton Ball Fields.&nbsp; He enjoyed wood working, playing golf, going to K-State Football games and having “coffee” with his friends at the Corner Store.&nbsp; He loved to travel; Ray and Dorothy had visited all fifty states and Europe.&nbsp;

Survivors include his wife Dorothy, his son Randy (Theresa) Lindquist of Hanover, two grandsons, Chris and Matt and a great grandson, Jonathan.

Preceding Ray in death&nbsp;were his parents and a sister Virginia Hubbard.

A visitation will be held between 6:00 and 8:00 pm, on Wednesday, at Christie-Anderes Funeral Home in Waterville.

A Memorial Service is planned for 10:30 am, Thursday, September 8, 2022,&nbsp;at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Waterville, with Pastor Berniece Ludlum.&nbsp; Inurnment with Military Honors will be at Riverside Cemetery in Waterville.

David Wayne Absmeier, 66 died September 4, 2022 in Clay Center, KS.&nbsp; He was born on January 16, 1956 in Holyoke, CO, the son of Carl J. and Patricia (Carpenter) Absmeier.&nbsp; David was raised in the Holyoke community and was a graduate of Holyoke High School.&nbsp; He earned a bachelor’s degree from Adams State University.&nbsp; David married Cindy Real, they later divorced but remained close friends.&nbsp; David worked as a retail manager for ACE Hardware in Eaton, CO before moving to Clay Center in 2018.&nbsp;&nbsp; He was a member of the NRA and IPSC (International Practical Shooting Confederation) and participated in many of their competitive shooting competitions.&nbsp; David was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Patricia Main; brothers, Steve, Jeff and Carl F. Absmeier.&nbsp; He was a loving grandfather and will be missed by family and friends.

Roberta Mae Horner, 85 of Gardner, Kansas died on Friday September 2, 2022 at the Vintage Park of Gardner.&nbsp; She was born on May 29, 1937 in Wakefield, the daughter of Walter Francis and Leona Pearl (Bryant) Weir.

Roberta grew up in Wakefield and graduated from Wakefield High School.&nbsp; She married Leo Raymond Horner on June 5, 1955 and the couple made their home in Junction City before moving back to Wakefield in 1969.&nbsp; Roberta worked for Whittaker Cable as an administrative assistant, was the editor for the Wakefield Sun and an admissions clerk for Clay County Medical Center.&nbsp;

She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, camping, traveling with her sister and family dinners on Sunday.&nbsp; Roberta was a member of the Madura Congregational Church and sang in the choir.&nbsp; She was also a member of the Rebekah’s Lodge. Leo preceded her in death in 1997. She is also preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Diana Russell; granddaughter, Christina Livingston; brother, David Weir and sister, Jean Leonard.

Anthony "Tony" Straub

Richard Leroy Taylor “Dick”, 84, of Miltonvale gained his heavenly wings on August 30, 2022, at his daughter’s home in Minneapolis, KS after a short bout with cancer.

Dick was born June 7, 1938, in Oak Hill to George Washington Taylor and Myrtle Sophie (Lindquist) Taylor, the third of four boys. He worked for Skinners Chevrolet then later for the Mobil Station, mostly delivering fuel to farmers via the tank wagon. He appreciated farming and raising cattle on the land that two previous generations farmed. Dick was an exceptional mechanic and could fix almost anything. He married Elaine LaVoie August 16, 1959. Two children were born to this union, Pamela Ann (Taylor) Harder and Kevan Todd Taylor. They later divorced. He married Elsie Malik May 26, 1976, and together they had one son Richard Leroy Taylor Jr “Richie”.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers Chester, Warren, and Larry Taylor, and his wife Elsie. He is survived by his three children, Pam (Kent) Harder of Minneapolis, Kevan Taylor of Colby, and Richie Taylor of Oak Hill, grandchildren Tiffany (Brett) Speaks of Prairie Village, Brandon Harder of Minneapolis, and Torey (Tera) Taylor of Shawnee, great-grandchildren Ryan Harder, Bradley Speaks and Kate Speaks.

Services will be held at Phelps Funeral Home, Miltonvale, KS on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, at 10:00 a.m.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m ., Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at Phelps Funeral Home.

 </figure>Richard Leroy Taylor “Dick”, 84, of Miltonvale gained his heavenly wings on August 30, 2022, at his daughter’s home in Minneapolis, KS after a short bout with cancer.Dick was born June 7, 1938, in Oak Hill to George Washington Taylor and Myrtle Sophie (Lindquist) Taylor, the third of four boys. He worked for Skinners Chevrolet then later for the Mobil Station, mostly delivering fuel to farmers via the tank wagon. He appreciated farming and raising cattle on the land that two previous generations farmed. Dick was an exceptional mechanic and could fix almost anything. Ellouise A. Marshall was born June 2, 1942 in Concordia, Kansas the daughter of Harold and Pearl (Lawrence) Demars. She passed away on Sunday, September 4, 2022 at the Memorial Hospital in Abilene. Ellouise graduated from Concordia High School and received her bachelor’s degree in Education from Kansas State University and served in the military from 1961 to 1962. On March 2, 1963, she married Norris Marshall in Ft. Rucker, Alabama. Ellouise was a bookkeeper for the Alida CO-OP in Chapman and then was the Office Manager for Chip Edwards Insurance Company in Chapman. She enjoyed quilting, antiquing, and reading, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family especially her grandchildren. She is survived by her loving husband Norris of the home, son Jody Marshall and his wife Katherine of Gardner, Kansas, daughter Jacqueline Basham and her husband Brian of Aurora, Missouri, sister Dianne LaBonte of Aurora, Kansas, 6 grandchildren Marshall Basham, Everett Basham, Nathaniel Basham, Brody Marshall, Lily Marshall, Eleanor Marshall, and one great grandchild Emery Basham. She was preceded in death by her parents. The family has selected cremation. Memorial services for Ellouise will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 10, 2022 at the First United Methodist Church in Abilene with Pastor Mik King officiating. Ellouise A. Marshall 

Mary Kay (Buchanan) Graves, 77, passed away peacefully at her home in Chapman on Saturday, September 3. She was born on January 20, 1945, in Olustee, OK, to Paul and Mayme Ruth (Norris) Buchanan. As a child living across the Red River Valley in Oklahoma, Texas, and Arkansas, Kay developed a love of nature, gardening, painting, horseback riding, and spending time with family, especially her maternal grandmother, “Mamaw.”

Upon graduation from Duke High School (OK) in 1963, Kay attended Altus Junior College and Southwest Oklahoma State University, graduating in 1967 with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. She taught for several years in the Lakin (KS) school district, where she met the love of her life, Herbert Russell Graves, Jr. They married on July 20, 1968, in Eldorado, OK. Together, they lovingly raised two children, Russell Wayne (Tammy) of Kansas City, MO, and Cynthia Dlynn Markley (Chad) of Abilene.

Kay served for 30 years as a 4-H Superintendent at the Central Kansas Free Fair, 20 years as a board member of the Chapman Housing Authority, and 10 years as the leader of the Chapman Shamrocks 4-H Club. She was also a lifelong member of the Chapman VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She also operated an arts and crafts store in Frankfort (KS) and Mayme’s Cottage in Abilene with her daughter. Kay was preceded in death by her parents, her two brothers, Herbert and Eddie Wayne Buchanan, her brothers-in-law Thomas and David Graves, and sisters-in-law Carol Kirkbride, Barbara Steppe, Myra Buchanan, and Lavonda Hurlbut.

Everyone that met Kay instantly recognized her dedication and love for her family, feisty personality, sharp wit, and determination to always put forth her best effort in every pursuit. Her family loves their wife, mom, and Aunt Kay very much and she will be dearly missed.

Graveside Services for Kay will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 8, 2022 at Good Hope Cemetery, rural Chapman. Family will receive friends Wednesday evening at Danner Funeral Home from 6to 7:30 p.m.. The family suggest memorials be given to the Dickinson County 4-H Club or to the Chapman VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
