Kevin Lee Good, age 40, of Salina, died November 7, 2023, at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita.

He was born December 30, 1982, in Manhattan.

Kevin graduated from Manhattan High School in 2001.

He had worked as a milker for the Kansas State University Dairy, then had a career in construction for two decades, working for Schultz Construction, Kolde Concrete, Coonrod Construction and then in Salina for Lancaster Construction. Kevin took pride in his work and in the projects that were created by his teams.

Kevin loved to be outdoors – especially fishing – and enjoyed working on the farm with his grandfather, Harold Bailey. He took interest in others, be they farm neighbors, family members or co-workers. He had a kind heart and generous spirit. His generosity lives on through his gifts as an organ donor.

In his youth he participated in Little Apple Soccer, Pillsbury 4-H Club, Manhattan High FFA and was on the Riley County 4-H Livestock Judging Team. He was a huge Boston Red Sox Fan.

Survivors include his parents Cheryl Marstall and her husband Mike and Mike Good and his wife Wanda all of Manhattan, KS; three children: Cayden and Mason Good and Kylie Zieber all of Riley, KS; one sister Kristen Turner (Thad) of Kingman, KS; and his grandfather Harold Bailey of Manhattan. He had a deep love for his children and family, including his cousins who mourn his loss.

Kevin was preceded in death by his grandparents: Bonnie Bailey and Doris and Margaret Good.

Private family graveside services will be held at Pleasant Valley Cemetery with Reverend Kevin Larson officiating. A Celebration of Kevin’s Life will be held from 1:30 to 3:00 P.M. Saturday, December 2nd, at the Deep Creek Schoolhouse, 3125 Deep Creek Road, Manhattan, KS 66502.

Everett Lee “Bud” Gillispie, age 84, of Manhattan, died November 6, 2023, at Ascension Via Christi Village in Manhattan.

He was born December 13, 1938, in Levant, Kansas, the son of Roy Hayes and Mildred Marie (Myers) Gillispie.

Bud graduated from Levant High School and attended Fort Hays State College where he met the love of his life, Lela Kay Ewing. They were married February 21, 1959 and made the move to Manhattan in July 1959. He began his career with Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company as a Claims Underwriter and would rise to be Assistant Sales Manager under Jay Payton in 1970. He retired December 31, 2001 having spent 42 years with Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company.

In the 70s, Bud became very involved in the Manhattan Jaycee Organization, winning various awards including Outstanding Local President and Kansas Jaycee of the Year. Later, he was a member of the Optimist Organization and Solar Kiwanis.

In 1997, Bud joined Manhattan Lions Club and was very active for the next 20 years as a local and district officer, organizing various conventions and receiving many awards from International Presidents and District Governors. He was a recipient of a Melvin Jones Fellowship. Bud was also involved in service with the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce and Toys for Manhattan in the 2000s.

Bud was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Manhattan.

Bud’s hobbies included woodworking, yard work and computer webpage design, as well as spending time with his grandchildren.

Bud was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather and a faithful friend to his Farm Bureau associates and will be missed by all who knew him.

His loving wife, Lela survives of the home. Additional survivors include his three children: Jeffrey Gillispie and his wife JoAnn of Bartlesville, OK, Bradley Gillispie and his wife Judy of Colorado Springs, CO, and Lori Lee and her husband Ryan of DeSoto, KS; one brother Eldon “Buck” Gillispie and his wife Betty Kay of Cortland, OH; seven grandchildren: Janelle Gillispie (NV Ozmus), Julia McKenzie (Matt), Jonathan Gillispie, Stephanie Gillispie, Jennifer Kahoe (Cooper), Travis Gillispie, and Kendra Lee; and two great-grandchildren: William and Beau McKenzie.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents and six siblings: Arnold, Melvin, Lloyd and Lyle Gillispie, Vera Bova and Velma Barrick.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 4:30 P.M. Sunday, November 26th, at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home.

Maurine Hebrank passed away November 6,2023 at Stormont Vail Health Center in Topeka KS.

She was born April 4, 1935 during a Great Plains dust storm in Quinter, Kansas to Manford and Vera (Bailey) Ulrich. She had an active childhood with her friends and with her many cousins, with whom she remained especially close throughout her life.

Maurine attended school in Quinter, graduating from Quinter High School in 1953. She attended Kansas State College and Kansas University Medical Center, receiving her degree as a Registered Nurse in December, 1957. Maurine met Kenneth Eugene Hebrank on a blind date while at KSU. They were married December 29, 1956 at the Abilene Methodist Church in Abilene, Kansas, on an unseasonably beautiful, springlike day. They made their home in many places as they followed Ken's army career, which stirred an interest in for travel in them both. When Ken retired in 1975, they made their permanent home in Manhattan, Kansas. Maurine took on a position as a school nurse with USD 383, Manhattan-Ogden, where she met many people who would become her closest and dearest friends. She was a dedicated caregiver, and was a volunteer for the Good Shepherd Homecare and Hospice for over 30 years.

Maurine was an avid sports fan, following the KSU Wildcats, the KU Jayhawks, and the Kansas City sports teams. She enjoyed golf, playing bridge, RV camping, and quiet time for reading. Maurine also had a witty, fun sense of humor, and gatherings with friends were always lively. She was a member of the DAR and the Manhattan Review Club. Church activities were very important to her, and she was a member of the Ogden Friendship House United Methodist Church. Maurine spent countless hours giving time and energy enthusiastically serving as a volunteer at the Friendship House of Hope.

Maurine and Kenneth were blessed with two children, Karen Ann, in 1962, and Philip Eugene, in 1966. She cherished her husband, children, and her grandson and his family, and being part of their lives. An everlasting joy was watching her great grand-daughter Ellie grow and thrive.

She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth, her parents Manford and Vera, her brothers Leroy Ulrich and Royer Ulrich, and sisters-in-law Marilyn Ulrich and Mary Stiver.

She is survived by her daughter Karen Buhler (Bruce), Manhattan, Kansas, son Philip, Manhattan, Kansas, grandson Brandon Schmitter, his wife Nicole and great grand-daughter Ellie Rose, Basehor, Kansas.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., November 18, 2023 at the Ogden Friendship House United Methodist Church, Ogden, Kansas. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. November 20, at the Greenwood Cemetery in Council Grove, Kansas.&nbsp;

Doris was born May 5, 1937, in Iowa City, Iowa the daughter of Willard Henry and Ethel Marie (Klien) Warren. Prior to moving to Junction City, Kansas at the age of 16, she attended school in Ladora and Marengo, Iowa. She married Kenneth A. MacLaird, Jr. on August 8, 1954 in Junction City, Kansas. He died January 18, 1968. She later married Nathan K. Nelson April 15, 1978. He died March 29, 1986.Doris worked as a homemaker raising her family for many years. During the time of raising her sons, she served as a Cub Scout pack leader. She supported the Boy Scouts of America for many years. She also owned and operated rental property in Junction City. At one time, she worked at Irwin Army Community Hospital in the Mental Health Department. Doris was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Ladies Reading Club, the Geary County Landlord Association and the Junction City Lady Troopers. She also did volunteer work at the C.L. Hoover Opera House.&nbsp; Doris was very patriotic and enjoyed celebrating the Fourth of July. She also enjoyed the Christmas season. She was known as a big supporter of Junction City and Fort Riley.

 Survivors include three sons, Steven MacLaird of Quinlan, Texas, Phillip MacLaird of Mission, Texas and Perry MacLaird of Conway, Arkansas; one brother, Robert Warren; one sister, Helen Spinler; nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Kenneth A. In loving memory of Sylvia Leona Niemczyk, a cherished member of the Junction City community who passed away on Thursday, November 2nd, at the Good Shepherd Hospice House, following a brief battle with cancer.

Sylvia came into this world on May 13th, 1959, in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, as the beloved daughter of Jimmie and Alice (Schlesner) Todd. Sylvia's greatest joy in life was found in the warm embrace of her family and the thrill of watching her sons compete in races. She will be forever etched in our hearts for the boundless love and kindness she extended to everyone she met, always with open arms and a joyful spirit that brightened every conversation.

Sylvia is survived by her significant other, Joseph Thompson, and her cherished children, Celina (Joe) Soliz, Michael (Alyssa) Niemczyk, Heather Stewart, Steven (Alana) Thompson, Nicholas (Skye) Thompson, and Jacob Thompson. She is also survived by her 19 adoring grandchildren, with one on the way, as well as 5 great-grandchildren. Sylvia's sisters, Sheree (Martin) Hemmingway of Junction City, Kansas, and Sheila Miller of Abilene, Kansas, hold her dear in their hearts.Sylvia is now reunited with her grandson, Jeremiah Thompson, and her brother, Malcom Todd of Junction City, in eternal peace. She joins her parents, Jimmie and Alice, and her grandparents, Paul and Ida Schlesner of Herington, Kansas, and James and Carrie Todd of Cullman, Alabama, in the heavenly embrace.

As we remember Sylvia's life and say our farewells to her physical presence, we hold onto the memories of her warm smile, her kind heart, and the love she shared with all. Her legacy lives on in our hearts, a testament to the enduring power of love and the profound impact one person can have on the lives of many.

Sylvia came into this world on May 13th, 1959, in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, as the beloved daughter of Jimmie and Alice (Schlesner) Todd. Sylvia's greatest joy in life was found in the warm embrace of her family and the thrill of watching her sons compete in races. She will be forever etched in our hearts for the boundless love and kindness she extended to everyone she met, always with open arms and a joyful spirit that brightened every conversation.Sylvia is survived by her significant other, Joseph Thompson, and her cherished children, Celina (Joe) Soliz, Michael (Alyssa) Niemczyk, Heather Stewart, Steven (Alana) Thompson, Nicholas (Skye) Thompson, and Jacob Thompson. She is also survived by her 19 adoring grandchildren, with one on the way, as well as 5 great-grandchildren. Sylvia's sisters, Sheree (Martin) Hemmingway of Junction City, Kansas, and Sheila Miller of Abilene, Kansas, hold her dear in their hearts.Sylvia is now reunited with her grandson, Jeremiah Thompson, and her brother, Malcom Todd of Junction City, in eternal peace. She joins her parents, Jimmie and Alice, and her grandparents, Paul and Ida Schlesner of Herington, Kansas, and James and Carrie Todd of Cullman, Alabama, in the heavenly embrace.As we remember Sylvia's life and say our farewells to her physical presence, we hold onto the memories of her warm smile, her kind heart, and the love she shared with all. Her legacy lives on in our hearts, a testament to the enduring power of love and the profound impact one person can have on the lives of many.

Ina Ellis, age 91, of Manhattan, Kansas, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 1, 2023. She was born in Fairview Missouri to Carl and Violet Mae (Hutchings) Sanders. In 1949 she graduated from the Apostolic Faith Bible School in Baxter Springs, Kansas, and on May 7, 1950 she married her high school sweet heart, Joe Ellis, who preceded her in death in 2015.

Ina sold Tupperware for five years, while living in western Kansas, and spent a number of years working at Memorial Hospital in Manhattan in the Housekeeping and Linen Department. She also, along with her husband Joe, managed the Little Ponderosa Mobile Home Park for 28 years. She loved to travel to see her relatives in Wyoming and Missouri. But her favorite role in life was that of wife, mom, and grandma. Her family was a great source of joy for her. Her six children and their families spent a lot of time in her home over the years; enjoying Sunday dinners, holiday gatherings, and visits just because. Her hospitality and warm smile and hugs made all feel welcome.

Ina had a heart of compassion and generosity toward all who knew her. Her strong faith in the Lord and her unwavering trust in His provision for her life was evident by the way she cared for others. Whether it was through the food she made or providing financial help, if she could meet someone else’s need- she loved to help.

Ina was a longtime member of the Manhattan First Church of the Nazarene where she attended with her husband Joe, and her son Lynn Ellis and his family. She made life long friends at church and was part of many different Bible studies and ministries over the years. She would often tell others how good the Lord had been to her and her family.

She is survived by four sons, Bob Ellis (Janie) of Ardmore, Oklahoma, Darreld Ellis (Marilyn) of Topeka, Kansas, Terry Ellis (Polly) of Overland Park, Kansas, Rick Ellis (Shelle) of Shawnee, Kansas; one daughter, Sherry Duerfeldt (Dan) of Manhattan, Kansas; two sisters, Sharon Dooley of Casper Wyoming, and Brenda Sue Davis of Gillette, Wyoming; two brothers, Leon Sanders and Bob Sanders, both of Casper Wyoming; 12 grandchildren, Chad Ellis, Brian Ellis, Josh Duerfeldt, Jessica Ellis Vidal, Nicole Ellis Semple, Dayna Ellis Robson, Matt Duerfeldt, Pam Ellis, Luke Duerfeldt, Andrew Ellis, Jacob Duerfeldt and Michael Ellis; 18 great grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; five step great grandchildren; one step great great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Ina was preceded in death by her son Lynn Ellis and his wife Mary Lou, along with three brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, November 9, 2023 at the First Church of the Nazarene in Manhattan, Kansas, with Pastor Jay Bessmer officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Thursday morning at the church. Burial will be in the Sedalia Cemetery, northwest of Manhattan.

A memorial has been established for the First Church of the Nazarene. Contributions may be left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley, Kansas.

Richard D. Lewis, age 57, of Topeka, died September 22, 2023, at Stormont-Vail Health in Topeka.

He was born September 28, 1965, in Manhattan, the son of Donald Luther and Della Mae (Davis) Lewis.

Richard graduated from Manhattan High School and then earned his Associate Degree from Beloit Vo-Tech in diesel mechanics.

He worked for Injection and Turbo as a diesel injection repair technician.

Richard was a gamer, built his own computers, was a member of an online band, enjoyed reading westerns and spy novels, and watched car shows on TV.

Survivors include his sister-in-law Shirley Lewis of Wamego, KS, and his nephew John Lewis and his wife Krystal of Coldwater, KS.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings: Russell Lewis, Allen Lewis and Sally Lewis.

Cremation is planned with graveside services to be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, November 13th at the Riley Cemetery, Riley, Kansas.

Kenneth Wayne Carroll, age 69, passed away on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at his home in Ogden, KS.&nbsp;

He was born on November 24, 1953, in LaFollette, Tennessee, and was the son of Walter and Myrtle (Benge) Carroll.

On December 31, 1976, he married Jutta (Wagner) Carroll in Heilbronn, Germany. Kenneth was a retired U.S. Army Staff Sergeant who served in Operation Desert Storm. He was the prior Commander of the VFW, Post 11374 located in Ogden, KS.

Survivors include his wife, Jutta, Ogden, KS; sons, Patrick W. Carroll (Shelby), Tulsa, OK, Mark S. Carroll (Jennifer), Manhattan, KS; Step-Grandchildren Mary and Jeremy Romig.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by both parents and seven siblings.&nbsp;

Graveside inurnment with military funeral honors will occur on 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 13, 2023, at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery, Manhattan, KS.

Linda Jean Mowery-Denning, 74, of Salina, KS, passed away Saturday, Nov. 4, 2023.

Linda was born April 8, 1949, in Kansas City, MO. She was raised by her parents, Ralph S. Mowery and Veora Mowery in Bluffton, Indiana. She married Peter Alan Denning of Salina on September 4, 1982.

Linda graduated from Ball State University and eventually made her way to Salina in the 1970s where she began her journalism career with the Salina Journal. She was with the Salina Journal for 26 years before she left to begin the Ellsworth County Independent, now the Ellsworth County Independent-Reporter. She semi-retired in 2022, but she continued to write and report for the newspaper as well as her start-up magazine, The Magazine, a publication focused on Saline County and Northcentral Kansas.

Linda was preceded in death by her husband, Peter; her loving parents and in-laws, Art and Winnie Denning; and her brother-in-law, Jim Carrigan. She is survived by her two children, Matthew Denning of Salina and Allyn ‘Allie’ Denning of Lawrence. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters-in law, Diane Carrigan of Salina, Russ and Renee Denning of Overland Park, David and Ginger Denning of Manhattan, and her many nieces and nephews.

Per her wishes, cremation was chosen. Nicolette Lynn Unruh-Uhl, 36, passed away on November 3, 2023, near Manhattan, Kansas. She was born on October 25, 1987, in Great Bend, Kansas, to Dale and Bernadette “Berny” (Pachta) Unruh. 

On October 15, 2022, she married Nathan “Nate” Uhl at the Unruh Family Farm. They had been working on remodeling a big, beautiful home near Manhattan, along with the son she gained, Tristen.

Survivors include her husband of the home; stepson, Tristen Uhl of Manhattan, Kansas; parents, Dale and Berny Unruh of Great Bend, Kansas; two brothers, Adam Unruh of Pawnee Rock, and Grant Unruh of Carleton, Nebraska; a sister, Danette Unruh of Esbon; grandmothers, Wynona Unruh of Great Bend and Carol Pachta of Belleville; in-laws, Bobby and Patricia Uhl of Texas; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Grant Olin Unruh and Edward Pachta.

Visitation with family receiving friends will be held Thursday, November 9, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with vigil and rosary at 7:00 p.m. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Manhattan, Kansas. Dorothy M. Urban, 96 died November 4, 2023, in Clay Center, KS. &nbsp;She was born on February 9, 1927, in Cloud County, the daughter of and George and Georginna (Charbonneau) Cyre. &nbsp; &nbsp;Dorothy was raised in Cloud County. &nbsp;She married Fred Urban on May 20, 1946. &nbsp;They made their home and farmed near Morganville. &nbsp;Dorothy also drove a school bus for 23 years, retiring in 1988. &nbsp;She was a member of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Catholic Women’s Organization, the Happy Hour Club and served as a Girl Scout den mother. &nbsp;In her free time, Dorothy enjoyed gardening and baking pies. &nbsp;She was preceded in death by husband, parents, two brothers and two sisters.

Dorothy M. Urban

Trace Alan, 24 of Marysville, KS passed away November 1, 2023. He was born April 22, 1999 in Clay Center to Bill Buttman and Kristin Oestreich.

Trace grew up in Clifton, attending Clifton-Clyde schools. He lived in Concordia after school and in 2020 moved to Marysville where he worked as a laser operator at Landolls. In the meantime he worked on obtaining his GED and then certification in cyber-security.&nbsp;

Trace would return to his family home often to play basketball in the driveway with his brother and sister or treat them with trips to Wal-Mart, McDonalds, or the movies.

Hobbies included cheering on all Cleveland Pro teams including the Browns, Cavaliers and Indians and KU Jayhawk basketball and football. He also enjoyed PC gaming and playing online with his brother. Trace grew his hair out to cut and donate to locks of love and was working on growing it out a 2nd &nbsp;time for the same purpose.

Trace loved animals, especially dogs and snakes. He had 2 cats and 2 dogs and pet snakes in the past. When in high school, he adopted a stray redbone coonhound which he named Rocket and bonded with right away.

Trace's memory will be cherished by his mother Kristin Oestreich, step-father Ryan Oestreich, brother Ayden Oestreich, sister Joely Oestreich, grandmother Eleanor Kieffer, step-grandfather Ron Oestreich, aunts: Kimberley Kieffer, Marla Oestreich, Erin Oestreich, Traci Oestreich; uncles Patrick Buttman, Mike Buttman, Bobby Buttman, Phillip Buttman and Troy Surprise.

He is preceded in death by his father William "Bill" David Buttman, Jr., Paternal grandparents William David and Margy Buttman, Maternal Grandfather Douglas Kieffer.

A prayer service will be held on Friday, November 10, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at the Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home in Clay Center, Kansas.

Visitation will held from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, November 9, 2023 at the Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home in Clay Center, Kansas.

Inurnment will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Clyde, Kansas.

Trace Alan, 24 of Marysville

Suzanne (King) Hauserman, 104, died Wednesday morning, November 1, 2023, at the Leonardville Nursing Home. Suzanne was born on June 2, 1919, the daughter of George and Clara (Sanneman) King and she was raised with two brothers and one sister on the family farm in the Garfield Township.

Suzanne attended the Idylwild Grade School, only a mile from their home, and after graduation from Clay Center Community High School, became a teacher at this same school for all 8 grades. &nbsp;She mentioned some of the eighth-grade boys were bigger than she was. &nbsp;They would help her get the fire started in the coal stove early on cold mornings. &nbsp;She was a creative and energetic young teacher.

On May 5, 1940, Suzanne married Kenneth R. Hauserman. &nbsp;They were married for 57 years and worked together as partners in the farming operation. &nbsp;They raised their three children in Clay Center: Gail Hauserman (Karen), Vicky Harris and Jane Siebert.&nbsp;

Suzanne continued living in the home after Kenneth’s death in 2007, until she was 98. &nbsp;When she entered the Leonardville Nursing Home she told family and friends, “I never expected to live this long”, and as every year passed, she would shake her head and tell everyone, “I guess I’m still kicking”. We contribute her long life to the devoted care she received at the LNH and the dedicated regular visits from her daughter Vicky.

It is not easy to live to be 104, but Suzanne met each physical health challenge with stamina and a strong will to carry on. &nbsp;She was kind to the staff, and they loved her like a grandma. She always remembered to say “thank you” for all they did for her.&nbsp;

When Suzanne turned 85 her grandchildren put together a book called “The 85 Things We Love About You”. &nbsp;They managed to capture her love of cooking, her welcoming hospitality, her wit and humor, and her ability to make them all feel special. &nbsp;Number 85 rounded out her legacy and character: wise, humble, generous, servant’s heart, full of love, honest, pure, and kind. &nbsp;

Suzanne’s seven grandchildren: Chris Hauserman (Anjanette), Jill Mugler (Marlin), Paula Brown (Darren), Jason Harris (Paige), Suzanne Otta (Chris), Casana Siebert (Emily), and Andrew Siebert (Amy); brought special joy to Suzanne with 15 great grandchildren. &nbsp;

Suzanne was preceded in death by her husband, parents, son-in-law Jim Harris, brothers Hilton and Robert, and sister Helen Doyle.

A celebration of life will be held at 10:00 am on November 22, 2023, at the Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home in Clay Center, Kansas.

Suzanne (King) Hauserman

Lynne Adell Hofman Morton, age 85, of Wamego, died October 26, 2023, at Stormont-Vail Health in Topeka.

She was born on December 1, 1937, in Wamego, the daughter of Delmar and Olive Ann (Edwards) Hofman. She grew up in the St. George and Wamego area. Lynne attended St. George schools and graduated with the class of 1955. She was proud of her playing days in high school on the basketball team at a time when women’s sports were still relatively young.

As a child, Lynne was involved in 4-H and later became a leader in both 4-H and Scouts. She attended Kansas State University for a year before becoming a homemaker and providing child care for several families. Later in life she was employed as an ophthalmologist office assistant.

On June 17, 1956, Lynne was united in marriage to Melvin “Sonny” Morton in Wamego. They were blessed with three children: Michael, Mark, and Michele.

Lynne enjoyed being part of the Wamego community. She was always willing to help and support the Wamego area events, such as the Tulip Festival, the Wamego Community Health Ministry, HollyFest and later she and Sonny delivered Meals on Wheels.

Lynne and Sonny were members of the First Presbyterian Church in Wamego. Through the years, she was active in helping with the VBS Programs and Sunday School at church as well woman’s groups and Bible studies. She also enjoyed gardening, houseplants, cooking, sewing, reading, and playing the piano and dulcimer. However, she will be remembered most for her faith in Jesus Christ and her love of family.

Lynne is survived by her husband of 67 plus years, Sonny Morton, her children: Michael Morton (Cleion), Mark Morton, Michele Morton-Best (Bill); her six grandchildren: Allison Smith (Matt), Katelin Goetz (Brett), Madison Morton, Makenzie Morton, Sierra Best, Bryce Best (Maddison) and Ethan Morton-Gaught. In addition, she leaves behind seven great grandchildren: Bella, Lily, and Harrison Smith; Brantley, Kinsley, and Wesley Goetz and Berkleigh Best.

A Celebration of Lynne’s Life will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Wamego, 601 Elm Street in Wamego, on Sunday, November 19 at 1:30 p.m.

A private family interment will be held in the Wamego City Cemetery.

Douglas Loren “Doug” Brown, age 66 of Manhattan, passed away Sunday, October 29, 2023 at Via Christi Village.

He was born on February 13, 1957, the son of Vernon Loren and Lina Belle (Owen) Brown.&nbsp; He graduated from Manhattan High School.&nbsp; Following high school, he played football for Coffeyville Community College and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Kansas State University.

Doug was a Captain of the 1974 Manhattan High Football State Championship team and earned All-State and All-Conference honors.&nbsp; At Coffeyville Community College, he was the starting linebacker for the 1975 National Junior College Championship team.&nbsp; He was also a standout wrestler and held school records in track and field.&nbsp; He was in the Boy Scouts where he earned the status of Eagle Scout.&nbsp; Doug was also active in AA and served as a sponsor.

He is survived by his mother, Lina Brown of Manhattan; two sisters, Cheryl Brown of Manhattan and Arlette Nicholson and husband Barry of Howell, Michigan; one brother, Brian Brown and wife Karla of Greeley, Colorado, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Vernon Brown.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 3, 2023 at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home with Pastor Jay Bessmer officiating.&nbsp; Burial will be in the Riley Cemetery.

Douglas Loren “Doug” Brown

Sharon Kay (Toburen) Springer, age 82, of Westmoreland, passed away peacefully Monday, October 30, 2023, in Westmoreland, KS.

She was born on September 5, 1941, at Saint Mary Hospital in Manhattan to Hazel (Weber) and Kenneth Toburen of Cleburne, KS. Raised in the Swede Creek community on a small farm, Sharon was the eldest of three children, followed by brothers Lyn and Barrie. She spent time as a member of the Swede Creek United Methodist Church and the Swede Creek 4-H Club. Sharon’s affection for animals began on the family farm where her father bred Rough Collies, and she often hid her favorite puppies from potential buyers. Sharon’s life was filled with many pets, including Biscuit, her current fur baby, who brought her much comfort in her final years.

Sharon graduated in 1959 from Blue Valley High School in Randolph, KS. She continued her education by attending Kansas State University from 1959 - 1962 and then trained as an X-ray technician under Dr. Roger Wallace at the Manhattan Medical Center. Sharon began her career in 1964 at the Memorial Hospital of Manhattan and continued to work in the radiology department at Dechairo Hospital of Westmoreland, Candlewood Physicians of Manhattan, and Stormont-Vail /Cotton-O’Neil of Wamego, retiring in 2008.

On June 2, 1962, Sharon married her high school sweetheart, Jerrol Lynn Springer, in the Swede Creek United Methodist Church. They had three children, Kim, Pam, and Doug, and their family expanded with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Sharon loved sharing her childhood traditions, including Christmas cookie baking and playing Bingo and Pig with her family.

Influenced by her family, especially her father, Sharon developed a strong religious faith and a passion for spreading the Word of God. She was a dedicated member of Westmoreland United Methodist Church, known for her various acts of service, including choir participation, teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, and helping initiate the Kids After-School Program. Sharon played a vital role in bringing the Harvesters food program to Westmoreland, which led her to establish Westmoreland’s sole local food pantry, Loaves and Fishes-Food Pantry.

Sharon deepened her knowledge of Christianity through local Bible study and by leading the local chapter of United Methodist Women (UMW). As an enthusiastic reader, she drew inspiration from the UMW reading list to promote global social justice and held several UMW District positions, including Kansas East Conference Representative to the National Conference. Sharon used her talents to create several quilted district banners for presentation at National UMW Conferences.

Sharon spent most Friday nights cheering for the Westy Wildcats and later the K-State Wildcats. She enjoyed photography, scrapbooking, and quilting. Sharon’s sewing skills were exceptional; she crafted a wealth of items for her family, including her daughter’s wedding dresses, as well as altering clothing for numerous people, earning her the nickname “Princess Presser Foot” in the local Red Hat Society. She was also a skilled gardener, successfully cultivating a wide variety of flowers, including her beloved daylilies.

Sharon is survived by three children: Kim Clopton and husband Robby of Liberty Hill, Texas; Pam Lauer and husband Joe of Olsburg; Doug Springer and wife Jenny of Wamego; one brother, Barrie Toburen and wife Beverly of Westmoreland; one sister-in-law, Sheryl Toburen of Manhattan; six grandchildren: Makynna Hood, Garrison Clopton, Jarrid Lauer (Jana), Laurel Wahl (Chris), Jake Springer, and Sara Springer; and two great grandchildren, Reddick Lauer and Ria Lauer.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerrol Springer; parents, Kenneth and Hazel Toburen; and brother, Lyn Toburen.

The family will receive friends from 6 - 8:00 p.m. on November 9, 2023, at the United Methodist Church in Westmoreland, KS.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on November 10, 2023, at the United Methodist Church in Westmoreland, KS, with luncheon to follow. A private family inurnment will be held at the Carnahan Creek Cemetery.

A memorial has been established in Sharon Springer’s name to be distributed to the Loaves and Fishes-Food Pantry of the United Methodist Church. Sharon began her career in 1964 at the Memorial Hospital of Manhattan and continued to work in the radiology department at Dechairo Hospital of Westmoreland, Candlewood Physicians of Manhattan, and Stormont-Vail /Cotton-O’Neil of Wamego, retiring in 2008.On June 2, 1962, Sharon married her high school sweetheart, Jerrol Lynn Springer, in the Swede Creek United Methodist Church. They had three children, Kim, Pam, and Doug, and their family expanded with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Sharon loved sharing her childhood traditions, including Christmas cookie baking and playing Bingo and Pig with her family.Influenced by her family, especially her father, Sharon developed a strong religious faith and a passion for spreading the Word of God. She was a dedicated member of Westmoreland United Methodist Church, known for her various acts of service, including choir participation, teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, and helping initiate the Kids After-School Program. Sharon played a vital role in bringing the Harvesters food program to Westmoreland, which led her to establish Westmoreland’s sole local food pantry, Loaves and Fishes-Food Pantry.Sharon deepened her knowledge of Christianity through local Bible study and by leading the local chapter of United Methodist Women (UMW). As an enthusiastic reader, she drew inspiration from the UMW reading list to promote global social justice and held several UMW District positions, including Kansas East Conference Representative to the National Conference. Sharon used her talents to create several quilted district banners for presentation at National UMW Conferences.Sharon spent most Friday nights cheering for the Westy Wildcats and later the K-State Wildcats. She enjoyed photography, scrapbooking, and quilting. Sharon’s sewing skills were exceptional; she crafted a wealth of items for her family, including her daughter’s wedding dresses, as well as altering clothing for numerous people, earning her the nickname “Princess Presser Foot” in the local Red Hat Society. She was also a skilled gardener, successfully cultivating a wide variety of flowers, including her beloved daylilies.Sharon is survived by three children: Kim Clopton and husband Robby of Liberty Hill, Texas; Pam Lauer and husband Joe of Olsburg; Doug Springer and wife Jenny of Wamego; one brother, Barrie Toburen and wife Beverly of Westmoreland; one sister-in-law, Sheryl Toburen of Manhattan; six grandchildren: Makynna Hood, Garrison Clopton, Jarrid Lauer (Jana), Laurel Wahl (Chris), Jake Springer, and Sara Springer; and two great grandchildren, Reddick Lauer and Ria Lauer.She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerrol Springer; parents, Kenneth and Hazel Toburen; and brother, Lyn Toburen.The family will receive friends from 6 - 8:00 p.m. on November 9, 2023, at the United Methodist Church in Westmoreland, KS.A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on November 10, 2023, at the United Methodist Church in Westmoreland, KS, with luncheon to follow. A private family inurnment will be held at the Carnahan Creek Cemetery.A memorial has been established in Sharon Springer’s name to be distributed to the Loaves and Fishes-Food Pantry of the United Methodist Church. Sondra Sue Hedberg, 82, of Clay Center died on Monday, October 30, 2023 at her residence. &nbsp;She was born May 31, 1941 in Clyde, Kansas, the daughter of Oscar and Marie (Fuller) Cranmer. &nbsp;

Sue grew up in and attended schools in Clyde. &nbsp;She married Norman Hedberg, Sr. on August 30, 1958 and he preceded her in death on December 19, 1997. &nbsp;Sue was a housewife for many years. &nbsp;She worked as a sales lady for McDonald’s and later, Mayo’s. &nbsp;She then worked at Scott Specialties as a seamstress until her retirement.

Sue was a past member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a charter member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles.

She was also preceded in death by parents; son, Keith Hedberg; daughter, Mary Hedberg; great grandson, Braxton; 4 brothers, Glen Cranmer, Ralph Cranmer, Bill Cranmer and Jim Cranmer; 5 sisters, Velda Douglas, Ilene Hedberg, Sharon Logan, Judy Morgison and Connie Williamson.

Sue is survived by 3 sons, Norman, Jr. and his wife, Cindie Hedberg of Batavia, OH, David Hedberg of Clay Center, KS, and Scott and his wife, Trudy Hedberg of Portland, TX; daughter, Renea Manning of Clay Center, KS; 13 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; brother, Kenneth and his wife, Cindy Cranmer of Tavares, FL and sister, Patricia Eye and her husband Leonard of Clay Center, KS.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at the Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home &nbsp;in Clay Center, Kansas.

Inurnment will be held at a later date in the Swedish Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Clay County, Kansas.&nbsp;

Paul George Ruff, 79, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, October 29, 2023, from complications due to Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.

 </figure>Paul George Ruff, 79, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, October 29, 2023, from complications due to Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.Paul was a renowned cardiovascular and thoracic surgeon in Springfield, Missouri, for 37 years. Beloved by patients and coworkers alike for his surgical skills and kindness, his patients often stopped him to chat years after their surgeries. He was a master of puns and riddles and famously entertained friends and family with his dry one-liners.Paul enjoyed many adventures in life including piloting various aircraft, scuba diving, and canoe trips. He was a skilled woodworker and enthusiastic skier well into his 60s. Paul traveled extensively to visit his family and see the world. His favorite place was his farm in Chadwick, Missouri, where he retired with his beloved dogs and embraced country living wholeheartedly. He famously adopted a third dog “by default” when it followed him home from the local convenience store. He was known to enjoy cold Diet Cokes, warm baked goods and extra-large buckets of popcorn.Paul attended Clay Center Community High School in Clay Center, Kansas, the University of Kansas, and the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Medicine. He completed his surgical residency and a fellowship in cardiovascular and thoracic surgery at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Hospitals and Clinics. He earned the honor of Eagle Scout and was licensed to fly a plane before he could legally drive a car.Born in Spartanburg, South Carolina, on December 5, 1943, Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Wava (Cate) Ruff and Carl Ruff, and younger brother, Evan Ruff.He leaves behind three children: Tim (Marla) Ruff, Ben (Jennifer) Ruff and Molly (Chris) Rouse. He was a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren: Eric, Chad, Benny, Brady, Grayson, Madi and Avery. He was married for more than 50 years to Jo Ruff. He is survived by two sisters, Joan (Dennis Wilbert) Ruff and Ellen (Steve) Resnick, sister-in-law Linda Ruff, and many nieces and nephews.A celebration of life is being planned for Spring 2024 at King’s Way United Methodist Church in Springfield, Missouri, where Paul was a member for many years.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the Humane Society of Southwest Missouri.&nbsp;Godspeed, Dr. Ruff.&nbsp; Make it S-T-A-T.&nbsp; Everything STAT today!
