Luella “Lu” Christine Klataske, 87 died February 18, 2022, in Hutchinson, KS.&nbsp; She was born on February 18, 1935, in Marshall County, KS, the daughter of Herman and Marie (Niemann) Gerdes.&nbsp; Lu was raised in Marshall County and was a graduate of Hanover High School.&nbsp; She married Norman Klataske on July 30, 1955.&nbsp; Lu worked as the bookkeeper for N-K Body Shop for several years.&nbsp; She later worked as a dental assistant at Fort Riley, retiring in 1998 after 20 years of civil service.&nbsp; Norm preceded her in death on February 27, 1997.&nbsp; Lu was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Clay Center.&nbsp; She was also preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Velma.

MSG Vigilio “Virgil” Garcia (U.S. Cav, RET) was born April 18, 1948, in San Antonio, TX to Vigilio Santos and Lupe Garcia.&nbsp; The oldest of three children he grew up in Torrance, CA and graduated from Narbonne High School in 1966.&nbsp; Virgil was a lifelong soldier. He joined the Air Force and became a crew chief, serving from 1968 to 1970. He then took a five-year separation from service to be a crew chief for NHRA racer “Big Daddy Don Garlits”, until joining the Army in 1975. His service took him from Vietnam, Japan, Korea, Germany, to all over the United States. He proudly served in the 3/7 and 3/8 Cavalry, 1st&nbsp;Armor Division, 250 Mechanized Infantry, Big Red 1.&nbsp; Virgil instructed Bradley Fighting Vehicles and retired in 1991 at Fort Riley, Kansas.&nbsp; He was proud to have served his country and always believed in the integrity of a handshake.&nbsp; God, Family and Country! Virgil married Lynn Elliott on January 8, 1982. They made their home in Wakefield in 1987. He served his community as a City Council man and he and his family owned and operated the Lakeview Restaurant.&nbsp; He loved the Chargers, Bomber Football, drawing, and anything to do with cars.&nbsp; Virgil’s greatest love was spending time with his loved ones and dancing in the kitchen with his wife and family.

Mary was a devout member of St. Philomena Catholic Church prior to relocating to Manhattan, KS. She was employed by Ruppman Marketing and Commercial National Bank. Upon retirement she enjoyed walking with neighbors, spending time with grandchildren, traveling to Europe and praying in the adoration chapel.

She was born August 12, 1941, in Manhattan, the daughter of Robert D. and Mary Ellen (Shull) Swart. Bonnie graduated from Manhattan High School in 1959. She was married to Harold W. Bailey on September 15, 1971. Bonnie was a dedicated farm wife and was well-known as a wonderful cook. Bonnie was past chair of the KS Electric Cooperatives Women’s Auxiliary Committee and enjoyed her years with her girls as a 4-H club and project leader. Family remained most important to her throughout her life. Survivors include her husband Harold of the home; three daughters: Cheri Marstall and her husband Mike, Kari Cool and her husband Kent, and Janet Bailey all of Manhattan; ten grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Bonnie was preceded in death by one daughter Terri Kelso and by her parents. Private family graveside services will be held at Pleasant Valley Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Saturday, March 19th, at the Deep Creek Community Center. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus for many years. He is survived by his wife Charlotte; his son David, and his daughter Lorie; and also, his three grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Patrick Flynn, 66 of Abilene passed away February 16, 2022 at Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan.

 He was born March 19, 1956 in Wichita, the son of Maurice Elvin Flynn and Willa May Haynes. He graduated from Abilene High School in 1974. After high school he worked for a service station in Abilene as a mechanic and also worked for Paul Llamas Construction. He later went on and worked for Union Pacific Railroad. He owned and operated Conland Concrete from 1990-2009. After retiring from his concrete business he stayed busy working for DD Ranch.

 Pat loved wrestling and coached many kids in the AKWC and coached various other sports as well. He married Sherri Kessler. They later divorced. He later married Cheri Everett.

 Patrick is survived by his sons, Josh, Andrew, Caleb and Mason Flynn Grandchildren, Haven, Brinlee, Kaylin and Kash and a grandson on the way, Jaymeson and ex-wife Cheri Everett Flynn. He was preceded in death by his brother, Brian Flynn and mother, Willa May.

 Pat’s wishes were to be cremated. Memorial Services will be 3:00 p.m., Friday, February 25, 2022 at Danner Funeral Home in Abilene. Inurnment will follow at the Abilene City Cemetery. James (Jim) Edwin Schoenbeck, 78 years old of Abilene, KS passed away at Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence, MO on February 16, 2022 due to COVID-19 complications.

Jim was born on January 27, 1944 in El Centro, CA and raised in Junction City, KS graduating from JCHS in 1962. He married high school sweetheart Karen Sue Repp on September 4, 1965. Jim and Karen both graduated from Kansas State University in May, 1966. After Army ROTC at K-State, Jim served as a 1st Lieutenant in the Vietnam Conflict and was awarded a Silver Star. After settling in Abilene, KS in 1972, Jim worked for Kansas Power &amp; Light and then Duckwall-ALCO, retiring in 2008 after 33 years of service. Jim is survived by his wife, Karen, of 56 years, daughter Melanie Molzahn (Andrew) of Phoenix, AZ and sons Jeffrey (Jennifer) of Nashville, TN and Matthew (Erika) of Wamego, KS. He is survived by five grandchildren, Emma, Bennett and Skylar Schoenbeck of Wamego and Madeline and Allyson Molzahn of Phoenix. He is also survived by his brother Thomas Schoenbeck (Mary) of Scottsdale, AZ and sister Elouise Jahnke (Clark) of Shawnee, KS.

Preceding him in death were his parents Edwin and Louise (Mass) Schoenbeck and his parents-in-law John and Evelyn (Hough) Repp. Jim had a strong Christian faith throughout his life that he often shared with others, which gave him and his family strength and comfort in his final days. He was involved in many church and community activities, for which he was passionate. Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m. on February 24, 2022 at Faith Lutheran Church in Abilene, KS, with family present. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Joseph Barlau officiating. Thelma Edna Hicks, age 92, of Abilene, passed away Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at the Village Manor Nursing Home. She was born March 8, 1929 in Montcalm, West Virginia the daughter of Beverly and Virgie (Johnson) Sheets. She attended the local schools and was united in marriage to Richard Hicks on April 5, 1945 in Folkston, Georgia. Edna worked for the Alco Warehouse for several years before retiring. Thelma Edna Hicks, age 92, of Abilene, passed away Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at the Village Manor Nursing Home. She was born March 8, 1929 in Montcalm, West Virginia the daughter of Beverly and Virgie (Johnson) Sheets. She attended the local schools and was united in marriage to Richard Hicks on April 5, 1945 in Folkston, Georgia. Edna worked for the Alco Warehouse for several years before retiring. Joe C. Mayfield, 83, of Manhattan, KS, passed away Monday, February 14th, at the Via Christi Village in Manhattan. Joe was a retired US Army Major and substitute schoolteacher. Joe Charles Mayfield was born in Del Rio, TX on April 30, 1938, the son of the late Rachel Rosecrans Lane and Joe Telford Mayfield. He was the husband of Rebecca Fern (Sadler) Mayfield, and they were married in Hopkinsville, KY on March 18, 1960, She survives in Manhattan, KS. He joined the Army Reserves in High School when he went to Basic Training and Advanced Training as a Combat Engineer. He attended West Point and Texas A&amp;M in 1958-1959. After he left Texas A&amp;M, he enlisted in the active Army as an infantryman, and went to Airborne school, and was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division, followed by the 173d Airborne Brigade in Okinawa, Japan. He was an enlisted man for ten years and went to Ft. Sill, Oklahoma for Officer Candidate School (OCS), where he was commissioned as an Artillery officer. He went to the 25th Infantry Division in Hawaii and deployed with them to Vietnam in 1966. His next assignment was as a Howitzer Battery Commander, 6th Cavalry Regiment, Ft Meade, MD, where he deployed upon the streets of Washington, DC during the 1968 Riots. He went back to Vietnam as an Artillery Battery Commander for the 173d Airborne Brigade in Vietnam. After Vietnam, he was assigned to V Corps Artillery Headquarter (HQ) in Darmstadt, Germany. His final assignment was to Fort Riley, where he served as the S-3 for 1st Bn, 7th Field Artillery, and as the Division Artillery S-3. He retired in 1979 as a Major at Fort Riley, KS, after 23 years in the Army. Joe graduated from KSU with a Bachelors's in Social Sciences in 1975 and a Masters’ degree in Education in 1982. He served as a substitute teacher for Jr High and High schools in Manhattan, Junction City, and surrounding school districts for six years. He taught Special Ed, Drama, Girls PE, history, and a variety of other subjects as a substitute, sometimes for most of the academic year. Joe is survived by his wife of their home in Manhattan; two sons Robert L. (Lorrie) Mayfield, of Junction City, KS, Joel D. Monique was born May 7, 1974, in Manhattan, KS, the daughter of Garry and Linda Sue (Berroth) Barnes. She was raised in Alma, Kansas and graduated from Wabaunsee High School in 1992. She attended Emporia State University and graduated with a Bachelors in Rehabilitation Sciences.

Monique was a devoted wife and mother who loved working with kids and was a valued para-educator with Olathe Public Schools. She attended Divine Mercy Parish in Gardner, Kansas. She loved reading Nicholas Sparks novels and taking care of her dog Hunter.

On February 14th, 1998, she was united in marriage to Jerry Angel in Paxico. She was mother to Madison Angel and Larry Noah Angel. She is survived by her husband and children; her brother, Tyson Barnes (Yuma, AZ) and niece Allie Barnes; her brothers-in-law, Aaron Angel (Kansas City, KS) and Michael (Jennifer) Angel (Ark City, KS) and nieces Alexis and Shannon Angel; her in-laws, Thomas and Delores Angel (Phoenix, AZ). She is also survived by her stepmother Linda Barnes, as well as her stepbrothers Chad, Jimmy, Troy and stepsister, Kelly and their spouses and children. Monique is also survived by many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her stepfather, Swede Anderson.

Tiny passed away suddenly on February 14, 2022 at his home in Manhattan, Kansas. Tiny was born July 19, 1943 in Hawthorne, California, the son of Charles A. and Rina (Fallati) Thornhill. He grew up in Lynchburg, Virginia, graduating from E.C. Glass High School. In Lynchburg he met his future wife, Joan Casebolt. They later divorced. Tiny enlisted in the United States Army. He was stationed in Aberdeen, Maryland; Alaska; France; Vietnam, and Fort Riley, Kansas. After being awarded numerous medals, including the Purple Heart, Tiny was honorably discharged in 1974 as a Staff Sergeant. Tiny began a long career as an auto mechanic in 1974 at Allingham VW in Manhattan. He loved being a mechanic and was exceptionally talented. His career took him to several dealerships in Manhattan where he developed may lifelong friendships. Tiny eventually became the first Master Mechanic in town. After retiring as a mechanic tiny worked at the K-State Student Union as a supervisor of a weekend crew of mainly students many of whom became lifelong friends. After working for the Manhattan Housing Authority, Tiny officially retired. He enjoyed bowling and many other hobbies. As a member of the First Christion Church, Tiny taught Sunday School and drove the church Bus. Tiny was proceeded in death by his parents, a stepmother, a stepfather, and his ex-wife. Tiny is survived by Anne Johnson of the home. Other survivors included his three children: James Russell “Rusty” Thornhill of Austin, Texas, Cynthia Lynn “Cindy” Thornhill of Jacksonville, Florida, and Debora Jean “Debbie” Blevins of Copperas Cove, Texas. Tiny is also survived by his sisters, Judy Davis (Karsten) of New Castle, Virginia, and Mary E. Thornhill of Roanoke, Virginia and a brother, Bruce S. Thornhill of Richmond, Virginia. Tiny is also survived by seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Tiny was truly compassionate, intelligent person that will be deeply missed by all who knew him. A celebration of life will be later date. After graduating from St. Joseph's College in Beulah Hill London he enlisted in the Royal Air Force. He served honorably with the Royal Air Force until his discharge. Brian resided in the United States for over forty years. He was employed with the Junction City Police Department as a dispatcher. After his time with the police department, he obtained a private detective license. At the time of his death, he was retired. Brian attended St. Xavier Catholic Church in Junction City, KS. He enjoyed playing golf, playing pool. He was an avid reader and always looking for another good book. He had a great passion for music and listened to classical music. Survivors include one sister, Violet Elizabeth Marshman of London, England; cousins in both Ireland and England. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Henry Marshman and one sister, Maureen Marshman.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Levy served in the United States Army until his retirement. He worked for the foundry in Junction City, Bell Taxi Service and the Junction City Transportation Company. Father James P. Grennan, 97, of Russell, Kansas, died on Tuesday, 
February 15, 2022, at the Russell Regional Hospital in Russell, Kansas.

Father Grennan was born on December 28, 1924, in Jewell County, 
Kansas, the son of William J. and Mary Agnes (Doyle) Grennan.&nbsp; He grew 
up in Jewell County north of Beloit, Kansas and also lived in Cloud 
County west of Jamestown, Kansas.&nbsp; He attended high school for 2 years 
at Jamestown High School before going to the seminary in St. Louis, 
Missouri.&nbsp; As a young man he worked summers custom cutting wheat 
harvests for his brothers John and Michael, traveling from Texas to 
Montana.&nbsp; &nbsp;

He was ordained on May 13, 1951, and that same year took his first 
assignment as parochial vicar at St. Michael Parish in Collyer, Kansas.&nbsp;
 He served as a priest for the Catholic Diocese in Salina, serving his 
entire priesthood in Kansas.&nbsp; He served in WaKeeney, Hill City, Delphos,
 Glasco, Mankato, Smith Center, Oakley, Manhattan and Plainville.&nbsp; He 
was assigned to St. Mary Catholic Church in Russell, Kansas from 1983 to
 1993 and later served in Stockton and Logan, Kansas.&nbsp; In 2001, he 
decided to retire and move back to Russell.&nbsp; Even though he had 
officially retired, his great passion was to serve the Lord and the 
church and he continued to serve by helping at the St. Mary Queen of 
Angels Catholic Church in Russell.&nbsp; His second great passion was 
fishing, and when he was not helping at church, you could always find 
him heading to the lake to fish with his friend’s Father Charlie Stier 
and Don Fisher.

Surviving family include his sister Polly Champlin of Mead, Colorado;
 sister in-law Theresa Grennan of Concordia, Kansas, and many nieces and 
nephews.&nbsp; He is also survived by his longtime caregiver and friend 
Patricia Staab of Russell, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers John, Frank, 
Tom, Mike and Bill Grennan; and sisters Sister Rose Grennan, Loretta 
Cady, Marie Stover, Margaret Daily and Kathleen William and an infant 
brother. A celebration of the funeral mass will be held at 11 A.M. on 
Thursday, February 24, 2022, at the St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic 
Church in Russell, Kansas.&nbsp; Burial will follow at the St. Mary Catholic 
Cemetery in Russell.&nbsp; A vigil and rosary service will be held at 7 P.M. 
on Wednesday, February 23, 2022 at the church.&nbsp; Visitation will be from 1
 P.M. to 5 P.M. Wednesday, February 23rd at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler 
Mortuary in Russell. &nbsp;

Memorials may be given to the St. Mary Queen of 
Angels Catholic Church and sent in care of the mortuary.&nbsp;

fishing, and when he was not helping at church, you could always find 
him heading to the lake to fish with his friend’s Father Charlie Stier 
and Don Fisher.Surviving family include his sister Polly Champlin of Mead, Colorado;
 sister in-law Theresa Grennan of Concordia, Kansas, and many nieces and 
nephews.&nbsp; He is also survived by his longtime caregiver and friend 
Patricia Staab of Russell, Kansas.He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers John, Frank, 
Tom, Mike and Bill Grennan; and sisters Sister Rose Grennan, Loretta 
Cady, Marie Stover, Margaret Daily and Kathleen William and an infant 
brother. A celebration of the funeral mass will be held at 11 A.M. on 
Thursday, February 24, 2022, at the St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic 
Church in Russell, Kansas.&nbsp; Burial will follow at the St. Mary Catholic 
Cemetery in Russell.&nbsp; A vigil and rosary service will be held at 7 P.M. 
on Wednesday, February 23, 2022 at the church.&nbsp; Visitation will be from 1
 P.M. to 5 P.M. Wednesday, February 23rd at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler 
Mortuary in Russell. &nbsp;Memorials may be given to the St. Mary Queen of 
Angels Catholic Church and sent in care of the mortuary.&nbsp;

Longtime Goodland, KS resident Beatrice “Bea” Driver, 92, passed away on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at the Cheyenne County Village in St. Francis, KS.

Beatrice Mary (Beckman) (Struckhoff) Driver was born on January 28, 1930, to William H. and Anna Catherine (Robben) Beckman at home on the farm in Menlo, KS. &nbsp;She attended grades 1-12 at the Menlo School. &nbsp;After graduation, she worked at Hoxie State Bank. &nbsp;In 1952, she married Charles Struckhoff. &nbsp;To this union, two children were born; Mark Charles and Mary Beth. &nbsp;

In 1962, the couple would move from Grinnell, KS to Goodland, KS, where Bea would remain until she entered the Cheyenne County Village in St. Francis in November of 2019. &nbsp;Bea worked as both a secretary to the couple’s business, S &amp; H Drilling, and as a housewife. &nbsp;Bea and Charlie were active in the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. &nbsp;Her favorite hobbies were golf, gardening and bowling. &nbsp;On December 12, 1983, Bea married Dr. R.K. Driver. &nbsp;With this marriage, the family grew with two stepsons Kirby Kay and Kenton Ray. &nbsp;At this time she was employed by Eagle TV and remained there until her retirement.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Dr. R.K. Driver, her son Mark Charles Struckhoff, stepson Kirby Kay Driver; her brothers William (Gerri) Beckman, Francis (Rita) Beckman, James (Hankie) Beckman, Charles (Margie) Beckman, Robert Beckman, Dennis Beckman, a sister Rose Marie (Douglas) Hartman and a brother-in-law Ben Ostmeyer.

She is survived by a daughter Mary Beth (Keith) Zweygardt of St. Francis, KS, a stepson Dr. K.D. (Dr. Stacy Clark-Driver) Driver of Salina, KS; two grandsons Kaleb (Sophie White) Zwick of McPherson, KS and Oskar&nbsp;Okeson&nbsp;of Sharon Springs, KS; six step grandsons Kirby (Brenda) Driver II of Oak Point, TX, Benjamin Driver of Salina, KS, Dillan (Tiffany) Zweygardt of San Antonio, TX, Drew (ShayLinn) Zweygardt of St. Francis, KS, Ty (Justice) Zweygardt of Colby, KS and Brock (Briell) Zweygardt of Wamego, KS; 2 step granddaughters Kelly Driver of Pilot Point, TX and Bailey Driver of Kansas City, KS, 7 step great grandsons and 4 step great granddaughters, and a sister Anna Belle Ostmeyer of Hoxie, KS.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, February 22, 2022, at 10:30 AM MT at the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Goodland with Father David Michael officiating. &nbsp;Burial will follow in the Goodland Cemetery. &nbsp;No visitation will be held.

Wanda S. Mathis, 74, of Abilene, KS, formerly of Woodbridge, VA. passed away on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at Village Manor in Abilene. Cremation will take place. A private graveside service will take place at a later date at Highland Cemetery. Wanda was born August 15, 1947, in Aragon, GA the daughter of Harold and Lillie (Nichelson) Holland. Wanda enjoyed being a homemaker and taking care of her children and family. Wanda was an avid walker and enjoyed meeting people on her journeys. She married John G. Mathis. He passed away in 2013 Survivors include one son, Danny Mathis; one daughter, Tammy Meranta; four sisters, Sylvia Nelson, Janice Moore, Terri Hammond and Karen Doyle; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Ronald B. "Ron" Schnurr, 53, of Dwight, KS, passed away on Sunday, February 13, 2022 at Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan, KS. Cremation will take place. A graveside service with military honors is pending at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery. Ron was born April 15, 1968, the son of Ronald George-Bernard and Betty Mae (Clossin) Schnurr. Ron served five years in the United States Army. After his Army career at Ft. Riley, he stayed and lived in Geary County, Kansas where he raised his family and worked on a farm. He married Joleen Enfield in Junction City, KS. They were married for twenty eight years. Carol A. Wells, age 74, of Marysville, passed away after a short battle with bone and lung cancer on Friday, February 11, 2022, at Cambridge Place in Marysville.

Carol was born on May 2, 1947, in Beatrice, to Paul L. Maguire and Betty J. (Lattimer) Maguire.&nbsp;She married Charles L. Wells on October 31, 1964, at the First Christian Church in Marysville.&nbsp;He passed away on January 29, 2018.&nbsp;They had three children: Shelly, Chuck and Kelly. She had worked at Valley Vet for fourteen years, retiring in 2013.&nbsp;

In her early years she enjoyed staying home and taking care of her children and even started her own daycare as she loved children so much. Carol was a fun loving sometimes eccentric lady. She loved fast cars and loud music including doo-wop and rock. You would find her working in her garden or hanging clothes on the line when it was warm enough outside. She loved her children, grandchildren and her great grands. They were her world and what she lived for. There wasn’t much she wouldn’t do for them!&nbsp;

Survivors include her three children: Shelly Wells of Beatrice, Chuck (Rakella) Wells of Beattie and Kelly Miller of Blue Rapids, 5 grandchildren: Alex (Lacey) Wells, Johnathan Klein, Steven Klein, Kelsey (Josh) Kenworthy and Emily (Brian) Bussman, and eight great-grandchildren.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a sister, Barbara Maguire, a grandson, Anthony Wells and a son-in-law Mike Miller.

Funeral services are planned for 11:00 am, Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at Christie-Anderes Funeral Home in Waterville.&nbsp;Cremation will follow the service with a private inurnment at Marysville City Cemetery at a later date.

She enjoyed spending time on the farm helping her grandparents out with milking the cows and preparing dinner. She married the love of her life Danny Corbett February 13, 1990. She worked at Chapman Valley Manor until her retirement.

 She has 5 grandchildren who she loved spending time with. She enjoyed teaching them how to cook. In her free time she liked to sew, play hidden object games, decorate for the holidays and watch NCIS.

 Dee is preceeded in death by husband Dan and her parents Willard and Iris Marshall.&nbsp; She is survived by her sons Jason and Josh Marshall and her 5 grandchildren. A grave side service will be held at 11 a.m. Februar 18, 2022 at the Indian Hill Cemetery, Chapman, KS.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Terry W. Drummond passed away Monday, February 14, 2022 at the Enterprise Estates Nursing Home. He was born February 22, 1959, in Ft. Gilbert W. Houlton passed away Friday, February 11, 2022 at his home in Abilene. He was born June 26, 1934 in Abilene the son of Frank Houlton, SR and Wilma (Pettriess) Houlton. He graduated from Abilene High School and worked in maintenance for several grain elevators in Abilene before retiring from AD&amp;M Grain. He enjoyed fishing, camping, casino’s boating, mowing his lawn, following the Kansas City Chiefs, and having breakfast at various restaurants. On November 11, 1960 he was united in marriage to Ellen Dawson in Abilene. He is survived by his daughter Vicky Lyne of Ventura, California, his son Kevin Houlton of Oxnard, California, three grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his loving wife Ellen, two brothers John and Thomas, and one sister Elizabeth. (Cooper) Gier. &nbsp;He grew up in Osborne, Kansas, and graduated from Osborne High School in the class of&nbsp;1999. &nbsp;After high school he played football&nbsp;for 2 years at Highland Community College. &nbsp;He was united in marriage to Marcia Dawn Woodyard on&nbsp;October 07, 2006 in&nbsp;Manhattan, Kansas. &nbsp;From this union they were blessed with two children Hailey and Cooper. &nbsp;He worked as a ranchhand and was 100%&nbsp;country&nbsp;and cowboy. &nbsp;He was a member of&nbsp;St. John Lutheran Church in Russell,&nbsp;lifelong 4-H&nbsp;member,&nbsp;American Quarter Horse Association, and former Fire Chief in Wheaton, Kansas. &nbsp;He enjoyed spending time performing his ranch chores, tending cattle, being outdoors,&nbsp;working and competing in rodeos,&nbsp;working with his horses and&nbsp;cattle&nbsp;dogs, hunting and teaching his children&nbsp;to appreciate the things he loved. &nbsp;Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, laughing, being a goof ball&nbsp;and&nbsp;having&nbsp;a&nbsp;good time.

Cooper&nbsp;Francis Gier&nbsp;was born on June 03, 2011, in Manhattan, Kansas, the son&nbsp;of George&nbsp;and Marcia (Woodyard) Gier. &nbsp;He attended Bickerdyke Elementary in Russell, Kansas. &nbsp;He was a member of&nbsp;St. John Lutheran Church in Russell,&nbsp;Fossil&nbsp;Creek&nbsp;4-H, Bickerdyke Bunch, 2 x 5 youth group&nbsp;and&nbsp;Russell&nbsp;Recreation football and basketball teams.&nbsp;He enjoyed&nbsp;helping his father with his ranch chores,&nbsp;pestering his&nbsp;sister,&nbsp;being outdoors, playing football,&nbsp;playing with his friends, spending time with his&nbsp;family&nbsp;and snuggling with his mom and dad. &nbsp;

Surviving family include&nbsp;wife and mother Marcia,&nbsp;daughter and&nbsp;sister Hailey&nbsp;both of the home;George’s&nbsp;parents&nbsp;Leo and Marian Gier of Osborne, Kansas;&nbsp;Marcia’s parents&nbsp;Daryl and Cathy&nbsp;Woodyard&nbsp;of Wamego, Kansas;&nbsp;George’s&nbsp;brother Garred&nbsp;Gier of Concordia, Kansas and Marcia’s brother Brandon Woodyard and wife Kristy&nbsp;of Denver, Colorado;&nbsp;George’s grandmother and&nbsp;Cooper’s great grandmother&nbsp;Lois Cooper of Lucas, Kansas.

A celebration of George’s and Cooper’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, February 19, 2022, at the St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Russell, Kansas. &nbsp;Burial will follow at the St. John Lutheran&nbsp;Cemetery in Russell. &nbsp;Visitation will be from 9 A.M. to 8 P.M., Friday, February 18, 2022, at the mortuary with family greeting guests from&nbsp;6 P.M. to 8 P.M.&nbsp;Friday evening. &nbsp;

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to the Russell County 4-H&nbsp;and sent in care of the mortuary. &nbsp;Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
