Darlyene Mardell Westberg aged eighty-six of Junction City, Kansas, was born in Huxley, Texas on November 5, 1935, and passed from this life on July 2, 2022. She was one of eight children born to Avery P., and Jewel Odessa Oswalt. At the age of seventeen, Darlyene graduated from high school in May of 1953 and moved to Houston, Texas where she went to work and attended church at the Gulfgate Pentecostal Church pastored by Brother Fred Olson. She met and later married Leonard Eugene Westberg in December 1955. Leonard and Darlyene engaged in working for the local church under Pastor Olson. She attended Texas Bible College for one and a half years until her husband received a calling to pastor in Church Point, Louisiana in 1969. In 1971 she moved to Junction City, Kansas with her husband as he became the new pastor of Faith Tabernacle. From June 1971 until 2004 she lived in Junction City. Darlyene resided in Wichita serving under Pastor Nathan Dudley and later under Pastor Robert Davis of Wheelersburg, Ohio before returning to Junction City in 2013 again serving under Nathan Dudley. Known as ‘Sister Westberg,’ she taught Sunday School in the local church, as well as at numerous youth camps. Due to her genuine and practical daily living applications of biblical teachings, she was a highly sought-after speaker for ministerial and Ladies Retreats around the country. Darlyene worked beside her husband in both churches where he served as pastor. She loved people as well as working in God’s vineyard. Until the end, her heart was in working for the Kingdom of God and labored to encourage others. In December 1972, God richly blessed her life with their darling, precious daughter Marjorie who was born on the 14th. This angel came into their lives and blessed them with an abundance of sunshine and joy. Marjorie Darlyene resides in the home. Brother Westberg went to his retirement in Heaven on September 3, 2001. Sister Westberg leaves to cherish her memory: a brother David Oswalt and his family; Brother-in-law Francis Westberg and family, as well as a host of nieces and nephews. She was also affectionately known as “mom” or “grandma” by her sons, daughters, and friends in the Lord. Preceding Darlyene in death were two sisters: Hortense Fleming, and Lurlean Miller, as well as brothers Avery Oswalt, Joe Oswalt, Gurvis Oswalt, and two infant siblings. Lorie Ann (Woodworth) Massey, age 45 of Manhattan, passed away Saturday, June 26, 2022 at her residence.

She was born on August 17, 1976 in Manhattan, the daughter of Danny Ray and Lorine Kay (Allen) Woodworth.&nbsp; She graduated from Blue Valley Randolph High School in 1994.

On July 12, 2016 she married Allen Massey, Jr.&nbsp; He survives of the home.

Following high school, Lorie graduated from Crum’s Beauty School and was a beautician and cosmetologist, working at various Salon’s during her career.&nbsp; She loved spending time with her family and friends, cooking and watching old movies.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her father, Danny Woodworth of Manhattan; her daughter Eva Woodworth of Manhattan; her brother, Brian Woodworth and wife Heather of Riley and her nieces, Jaiden and Miah Woodworth and Kyla Woodworth Lockyer.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Lorine Woodworth and an infant sister, Laura Michelle Woodworth.

Donna Lee Anderson, age 88, of Abilene went to be with the Lord on July 2nd 2022. She was the daughter of Leslie Ralph Loader and Alma Nellie (Knisley) Loader. Donna was born south of Enterprise on August 15th, 1933. She lived there until she was four years old. They then moved south of Chapman where she attended school until 4th grade.The family then moved to the Buckeye Community. She attended the Jeffcoat and Oak Creek one room country schoolhouse until 8th grade. Donna then rode the bus to Chapman High School. During this time she met the love of her life, Leo Anderson. Donna Graduated in 1951. Donna accepted the Lord in High School while attending church camp. She was a member of the Wesleyan Church where she taught Sunday school and Junior Church. After graduating, she was employed at the United Utilities Telephone Company in Abilene for 10years. In 1953, Donna married Leo Anderson on August 23rd and they made their home in Abilene. In 1963, she opened up her home for childcare and was one of the first sitters to be licensed in Abilene. Donna cared for over 80 children including second generations and enjoyed each one as well as her own. The Children spent their days playing in the backyard, going for walks, reading, painting, and drawing pictures, going on short field trips and playing games. She taught them that they all were special and that God created and loved each one of them. In 2000, she received an award for 35 years in childcare and continued sitting until 2014 at the age of 80 years old. In her free time she enjoyed being with her family, gardening, being with friends, reading and writing poetry, and listening to spiritual music. Bonnie Mel (Hubbell) Devore, 73, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on June 28, 2022. She was born on the 4th of July, 1948 in Medford, OR to Melvin and Margaret (Romick) Hubbell. After a few years in Los Angeles, CA and Houston, TX the family settled in Topeka, KS when Bonnie was ten years old. She attended Seaman High School in Topeka, then Kansas State University in Manhattan. She graduated K-State with a bachelor’s degree in Home Economics Education and a master’s degree in Financial Counseling. She and her future husband, John, found each other during the final semester of their undergraduate years. They were engaged after three months, married after nine, and got to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary December 19, 2020. Bonnie was hired by USD 383 to teach Home Economics classes at Manhattan High School starting in the fall of 1970. This job led John to seek local employment and extended their sojourn in Manhattan for an additional 52 years. She quit this teaching job in 1979 to stay home with their two young sons. In 1985, a year after the birth of their daughter, she became certified as a computer programmer and started working half time at the University Computing Center. In 1988 she returned to full-time teaching, this time at the Manhattan Middle School. After three years of teaching Home Economics, she created the middle school’s first computer education program. For the next 16 years she was “the” middle school computer teacher in Manhattan, even traveling between the two new middle schools that were built in 1996 to ensure that both schools offered computer courses to students. Bonnie loved teaching because she was very much a people person. She loved the students, with her teaching philosophy being “teach the student first and the subject second.” She taught approximately 10,000 students over her three-decade career and kept in touch with many of them afterwards, including those that she had had in her first few years. After retiring, Bonnie enjoyed traveling with her husband, especially in groups. The travel included overseas river cruises, an ocean cruise, a trip to Scotland to explore her ancestral roots, and Friends of McCain trips to New York and Los Angeles. She served on several organization boards including the ATA Bus board of directors during its expansion years in Manhattan, the Friends of McCain board, and the Sunset Zoo Trust board. Bonnie was an avid believer and member of First Christian Church. She was also in organizations such as PEO and Daughters of the American Revolution. She belonged to card groups, dinner groups, and a mahjong group. Throughout her life she was kind and sociable and truly loved being around people. Bonnie had many hobbies which included flower gardening, playing cards, playing mahjong, flying, attending McCain performances and K-State athletic events, and interior design. She designed the house she and John built in 1975, which they lived in together for 47 years until her death. She had a private pilot’s license and especially enjoyed takeoffs and landings – so much so that her instructor had to push her to do the required cross-country flights. Eventually she did most of the flying on a trip, with her husband and infant son, to California City. The trip included a landing on the mesa runway at Sedona, AZ with a significant leg of the route flying over the Grand Canyon. Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Karen (Hubbell) Grose, and a stillborn granddaughter Sage Devore. She is survived by her husband John, her sons Bryan and Kevin, her daughter Casey, daughter-in-law Lisa (Clarke) Devore, grandson Coen Devore, brother Richard Hubbell, brother-in-law David Grose, her sister’s sons Donovan and Nolan Grose and Nolan’s wife Sandra, her sister’s daughter Cory Grose and husband Reuben Dohrendorf and their daughter Hayden and son Gavin (Bonnie was their surrogate grandmother), sister-in-law Jewelda (Devore) Scofield and husband Steve, nephew Greg Scofield and wife Dana and sons Max and Cooper, niece Mindy (Scofield) Ott and husband Dan and sons Peyton, Prosper, and Harvest. A family visitation will be held at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home Wednesday July 6 from 6:00-7:30 p.m. The funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday July 7 at First United Methodist Church in Manhattan.&nbsp; A graveside service will follow at Sunrise Cemetery. She is survived by her husband John, her sons Bryan and Kevin, her daughter Casey, daughter-in-law Lisa (Clarke) Devore, grandson Coen Devore, brother Richard Hubbell, brother-in-law David Grose, her sister’s sons Donovan and Nolan Grose and Nolan’s wife Sandra, her sister’s daughter Cory Grose and husband Reuben Dohrendorf and their daughter Hayden and son Gavin (Bonnie was their surrogate grandmother), sister-in-law Jewelda (Devore) Scofield and husband Steve, nephew Greg Scofield and wife Dana and sons Max and Cooper, niece Mindy (Scofield) Ott and husband Dan and sons Peyton, Prosper, and Harvest. After a few years, the family moved back to Pratt, KS and then to Wichita. She met her husband Eugene in Wichita, and they were married in Great Bend, KS. After her husband’s discharge from the military, he worked for the Federal Civil Service, Department of the Army, transferring from Great Bend to Garden City in 1968. Ann and Eugene enjoyed being foster parents for several years due to their love of children. During her years in Garden City, Ann worked for the U.S. Post Office, Elementary schools of USD 457, and retired from Edward Jones in 1999. Ann loved to travel, especially cruising the Caribbean, the Panama Canal, Alaska, and along the coast to Canada. She said the European trip visiting 7 countries and her trip to Ireland left her with a lifetime of memories. Ann was a member of the Manhattan First Baptist Church/ABW, Riley County F.C.E., Senior Center, RSVP, AARP, Harmony Rebekah’s #689, Eagles POPPS club, and DAV Life Member. She moved to Manhattan in 2012 from Garden City, joining the Manhattan Welcome Club soon after. She was their President for 3 years and was known for closing each meeting with a joke. If you knew Ann, you would know how much she loved to laugh, especially at herself. She attended their Coffee and Breakfast groups and said the most fun she had was playing Bunko with her friends. She had been a volunteer with Hospice since 1999 in Garden City and Manhattan. She joined the Garden City Fraternal Order of Eagles in 1976, was elected as State Secretary for 12 years, and became the State President in 1995. The Ann Bitzer Secretary of the Year Award is presented annually during the State Convention in honor of her years in that position. She received many honors through the years, such as the Local and State Auxiliary, State Aerie Mother/Grandmother/Great Grandmother as a Kansas Special Sunflower, and inducted into the State Hall of Fame in 2009. Ann was presented with the Alta Browning Smith Award in 2013. Only one sister is chosen annually by the FOE Grand Madam President out of the many letters she receives from State Auxiliaries within the United States. Ann started the Past Presidents Club at Auxiliary #3124 in Garden City, KS; was Kansas State Ritual Chairman for 8 years, MINK Ritual Chairman, State Membership Chairman, Conductor for 8 years on a Kansas State Ritual Team, winning first place more than once. She was chosen Heart Queen of her local auxiliary and District #7 and was also named Kansas State Heart Queen. Grand Madam President Lorraine Grimes appointed Ann as Assistant Grand Madam Conductor during the International Grand Convention in Las Vegas. Grand Madam President Carleen Corum named her as the South-Central Regional President in 2001. Ann was honored with being named Mother for the South-Central Region two separate times. She was also a dual member of the Eagles in Manhattan. She served as Secretary/Treasurer of NARFE for several years, she also served on the Finney Country Committee on Aging Board as President in Garden City for 5 years and enjoyed her time as the Queen Bee of a Red Hat Club. She was a Pen Pal with second grade children at the Victor Ornalas School, volunteered for CASA, Family Crisis, was a receptionist at the Senior Center, and called Bingo at a local nursing home. In 1991 Ann was presented with the US President George Bush award, the Thousand Points of Light, the Woodsman Award, and the Hospice Volunteer of the Year award. As the Hospice Coordinator so aptly put it, “Ann is the busiest retired person I’ve ever met.” Ann served as the Family Coordinator for the 467th Firefighting Unit at the local Army Reserves when the men were deployed to Saudi Arabia. Ann and her husband were honored by being named Grand Marshals in the parade given by Garden City upon their return home from Desert Storm. Ann enjoyed all types of crafts, found quillery fascinating, loved to write stories and poems, and collected angels and Santa Claus figurines. But felt her greatest gift in life was her husband, daughters, and family. Ann is survived by two daughters: April Eugenia Garetson of Wamego (John); and Malinda Ann Rose, Groveland, CA; 5 grandsons: John Armstrong, Justin Hudson, Jack Armstrong, Danny Conn, and John Derek Garetson; 3 granddaughters: Misty Segura-Bowers, Brandy Conn, and Ashley Garetson; 9 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandsons. Deanna June Barnes, age 79 of Olsburg, passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2022 at Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan.

She was born on June 17, 1943 in Westmoreland, the daughter of J. Dennis and Eva LaVetta (Webster) Holt.

On September 10, 1960, she married Keith Roblyer and to they had two sons, Monty and Todd.&nbsp; They later divorced.

She married Ed Barnes on November 17, 1988.&nbsp; He preceded her in death in 2002.

Deanna worked as a groundskeeper for the state of Kansas and was a fanatic KU fan.&nbsp; She was involved in agriculture her entire life.&nbsp; Her and Ed owned and operated E&amp;D Quarter Horses.&nbsp; She loved watching her great grandson play sports and spending time with all of her family and friends.&nbsp; Deanna was a member of the Olsburg Lutheran Church and Olsburg Pride.

She is survived by her two sons, Monty Roblyer and wife Patti of Olsburg and Todd Roblyer and wife Marti of Olsburg; two granddaughters, Brandi Innes and husband Tim of Olsburg and Dee J Mengel and husband Brandon of Olsburg; one great grandson, Caleb Innes; two step daughters, Julie and Cindy, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband Ed, she was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Darlene Marceron.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at the Olsburg Lutheran Church with Rev. Kaylie Ines officiating.&nbsp; The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.&nbsp; Burial will be in the Mariadahl Cemetery.

Lon Vincent Silver, 83, of Morganville, KS, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2022, at his residence. His loving wife and three daughters were by his side. 

He was born on July 11, 1938, in Clay Center, KS, to William Vincent Silver and Sophia Eileen (Malcolm) Silver, the oldest of three children. 

Lon attended K-State University, where he was a member of the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. He then spent four years in the U.S. Air Force at Schilling Air Force Base in Salina, KS. 

He married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Jacqueline Sue Haden, on Oct. 24, 1958, at the First Baptist Church in Clay Center, KS. 

Lon’s lifelong career path would be to carry on the family farm, which has been in the family since the 1800’s. His love of the outdoors would culminate in an amazing 50 plus year career in farming. 

His passions were fishing, camping and gardening.  Together, with Jackie, they spent many years camping and fishing at Milford Lake. They grew a large garden every summer and enjoyed sharing their produce with family and friends, and selling their produce at the Junction City and Clay Center markets. For more than 30 years, they enjoyed spending the winter months in South Padre Island, TX. 

Lon was a dedicated and loving husband, father, and grandfather to his wife, three daughters and four grandchildren. 

He is preceded in death by his father (Bill), mother (Eileen), brother (Mike), and sister (Carol). 

Survivors include:  His wife, Jackie, of the home, daughters; Susan and Bob Ervin (Lenexa, KS), Christina and Jim Barnier (New Lisbon, WI), and Patricia Silver (Morganville, KS).  Grandchildren include:  Paul Ervin, John-Patrick Ervin, Dakota Barnier, and Kennedy Barnier. He is also survived by his beloved three nieces, four nephews, and many cousins.

Gregory Harmon Free, age 67 of Clay Center, passed away Monday, June 20, 2022 at his residence.

He was born on April 9, 1955 in Emporia, the son of Jesse William and Alma Marie (Chase) Free.&nbsp; He graduated from Junction City High School in 1973.

In his early working years, he lived in Ark City, working at Cessna Aircraft, Hanes Concrete and the City of Ark City working as an animal control officer.&nbsp; He moved to Junction City in 1990 and worked for Rolling Meadows Golf Course, the Junction City Daily Union as a pressman and Jim Clark Auto in the bodyshop.&nbsp; He was a lover of animals.

He is survived by his sister-in-law, Dianna Free of Clay Center; one niece, Kimberly Harding and husband Todd of Clay Center; one nephew, Kerry Free, Jr. and wife Jennifer of Randolph; two great nieces, Morgan Free and Jessie Free, both of Clay Center; three great nephews, Charles Harding and family, Brandon Harding and family and Jake Harding and family; and his cat, Nicodemus.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Karol Free and Karen Free and one brother, Kerry Free.

Cremation is planned with private family burial at a later date.&nbsp; The Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Delores “Dee” Ouellette, 80, died Sunday, June 26, 2022 at her residence in Clay Center, KS surrounded by those who loved her dearly. She was born February 14, 1942 in Clifton, KS to Elden and Mabel (Lillibridge) Hill. Dee grew up and attended school in Clifton. On October 29, 1959 she was united in marriage to Raymond “Jerry” Ouellette. The couple traveled with Jerry’s occupation as a surveyor before moving to Clay Center in 1970.

They owned and operated several local businesses over the years including the Silver Dollar, Dee &amp; Jerry’s, Tiger’s Den, Low Places, Southside and Donley’s Liquor Store. Dee was also employed at the Locker Plant, Boogaart’s and was the cafeteria supervisor at Clay Center Community Middle School for many years before retiring. Dee was member of the Clay Center Christian Church, B.P.O.E. and the Eagles. &nbsp;

Dee knew no stranger, was a great friend to many and always wore a smile. She was known to countless others as “Grandma Dee” and it’s undoubtedly from her loving and caring nature. One of her favorite things to do was support her grandchildren and great-grandchildren in all of their activities, including sports. She was their #1 fan and rarely missed a game. &nbsp;Every year Dee looked forward to hosting Christmas Eve at her house with all of her family and closest friends which always included a picture with “Santa and Mrs. Claus”.

The couple traveled with Jerry’s occupation as a surveyor before moving to Clay Center in 1970.They owned and operated several local businesses over the years including the Silver Dollar, Dee &amp; Jerry’s, Tiger’s Den, Low Places, Southside and Donley’s Liquor Store. Dee was also employed at the Locker Plant, Boogaart’s and was the cafeteria supervisor at Clay Center Community Middle School for many years before retiring. Dee was member of the Clay Center Christian Church, B.P.O.E. and the Eagles. &nbsp;Dee knew no stranger, was a great friend to many and always wore a smile. She was known to countless others as “Grandma Dee” and it’s undoubtedly from her loving and caring nature. One of her favorite things to do was support her grandchildren and great-grandchildren in all of their activities, including sports. Carolyn A. Wester was born February 7, 1938 in Lemay, Missouri the daughter of Stephen F. and Margaret (Gender) Seninger Jr. She passed peacefully with loving care from her family and the wonderful, considerate care from the staff at Valley View Senior Living on Sunday June 26, 2022. She graduated from Mehlville Senior High School in Mehlville, Missouri with the class of 1956. She was united in marriage on January 23, 1959 to John Herman Wester, Jr in St. Louis, Missouri and had been a longtime Junction City area resident. Carolyn was a military wife and mother that supported her husband during most of his 22 years serving his country. She also worked for the Geary County Sheriff Department for a time in dispatch. Carolyn was a warm hearted, outgoing person who made friends wherever she went. Her generous personality and sense of humor made her a welcome friend who cared about people and their problems. Her hobbies were numerous. She began painting while colorizing her father’s customers B&amp;W portraits and enjoyed painting flowers, wildlife and freehand landscapes throughout her life. Amongst her other numerous hobbies she enjoyed quilting, ceramics and sewing. She is survived by her daughter Diane Margaret Wester, brother Dr. Stephen F. Seninger III, sister-in-law Daphne Herling, and numerous nieces and nephews on both sides of her extended family. She was preceded in death by her husband John, son Mark, and her parents. Lazone Grays, age 103, a longtime Manhattan resident, died June 21, 2022, at Advena Living in Topeka. He was born June 4, 1919, in Iago, Texas, the son of James Payton and Mattie (Davis) Grays. Mr. Grays served from September 23, 1941, until June 1, 1962, in the United States Army and retired at the rank of Sergeant First Class. He was proud to serve and protect his country and was active in WWII and the Korean Conflict. He had received the Bronze Star while serving in Korea and was also awarded the Presidential Citation. Following his military service he worked at Kansas State University as a security guard from 1962 to 1973, and then in general maintenance and repair until 1981. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 17, Disabled American Veterans, Retired Seniors Volunteers Program and the Riley County Seniors’ Service Center. On May 6, 1946, in Houston, Texas, he was married to Mozelle E. Johnson. Mrs. Grays preceded him in death on January 31, 1985. He was also preceded in death by two siblings: Rose Stokes and Phillip Grays. Survivors include his two children: Adrian Cruz and her husband Ruben of Manhattan, and Lazone Grays, Jr. of Topeka; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 8th, at the Main Post Cemetery at Fort Riley. William S. “Bill” Farley passed away on June 27, 2022.&nbsp; Born in Cordova, Tennessee on September 28, 1930, within two years his father died unexpectedly, leaving his mother to raise two small children while running a farm and mercantile store in the midst of the Great Depression.&nbsp; At Germantown High School he met the love of his life, Nancy Virginia Jones.&nbsp; He graduated from the University of Mississippi, where he was member of Delta Sigma Pi and Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternities.

Bill and Nancy married in 1951, and soon thereafter as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force he went to Japan in support of the Korean War.&nbsp; Upon his discharge he began a lengthy career with Sears, Roebuck &amp; Co. in various management assignments in Texas, Nebraska, and Colorado, and was certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources from the Personnel Accreditation Institute.&nbsp; He later worked as a part-time field representative for the U.S. Census Bureau for more than ten years.

An amateur genealogist, he researched and published an extensive history of his ancestry,&nbsp;Vanocaten, reaching back over five centuries.&nbsp; He and Nancy shared a deep and lifelong love of jazz, blues, and swing music, attending countless concerts and events over the years.&nbsp; Seeking to instill a like appreciation in his children and grandchildren, Bill was legendary for his wedding toasts praising various aspects of the occasion while lamenting the absence of Ella Fitzgerald and a tenor sax quartet.&nbsp; He had a keen sense of humor and graciously received people from all walks of life.&nbsp; A world traveler, he cherished the personal freedom that our constitutional form of government ensures, and to that end pursued an energetic and abiding interest in politics.

Bill’s beloved wife, Nancy, passed away in 2019 after nearly 68 years of marriage.&nbsp; He is survived by four children:&nbsp; William S. “Bill” Farley Jr., Paul (Leslie) Farley, Jean (Jerry) Tracy, Ann (Jim) Vrchota; eight grandchildren: &nbsp;Charlene (Oscar) Chacon, Christina (Seth) Spanier, Monk Philaret (in the world, William S. IV) Farley, Peter Farley, Virginia Farley, Courtney Montgomery, Reid Tracy, Spencer Hayward; and four great-grandchildren:&nbsp; Dylan Spanier, Ryan Spanier, Elora Montgomery, and Maximiliano Chacon.

On May 2, 1952, in Friona, Texas, he was married to Lila L. Witt. Mr. Snell served for two years in the army, and was honorably discharged at the rank of SP3. Bob earned his Bachelor’s degree from Kansas State University in Civil Engineering in 1954, his Master’s in 1960, and then his PhD from Purdue in 1963. Dr. Snell was a professor at Kansas State University from 1963 until his retirement in 1999. He had served as Head of the Civil Engineering Department for many years and was named the Kansas “Engineer of the Year” in 1986, by the Kansas Engineering Society. Bob also served as the Kansas State University Athletic Department Big 8 and Big 12 Faculty Representative for many years. Dr. Snell was a member of the Tri-Valley Chapter of the Kansas Engineering Society and had served as the state president and as a regional vice president. He was active in the American Society of Civil Engineers, serving in positions ranging from president of the Kansas Section to national director of District 16. He was a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers. Bob was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Manhattan as well as numerous civic and university organizations. Mr. Snell is survived by his wife Lila and their two children: Vicki Shanks and husband Dennis of Liberty, MO, and Robert Snell, Jr. and wife Colleen of Burwell, NE; five grandchildren: Stacy Shanks, Jody Robeson and husband Aaron, Denton Shanks and wife Lisa, Abby Brown and husband Cody and Trevor Snell; nine great-grandchildren; and his sister Katheryn Snell of Salina, Kansas. R. Scott Jennings, age 67, of Manhattan, passed away on June 24, 2022, at the Good Shepherd Homecare and Hospice House in Manhattan, after a long journey fighting ALS. Scott was born October 12, 1954, in Columbia, Mo., the son of Robert Thomas and Shirley Ann (Kingsley) Jennings. Scott grew up in Manhattan, Ks. where he graduated high school and met the love of his life, Linda. They were later married on August 18, 1973, in Manhattan. Scott attended Emporia State University on a pitching scholarship and lived in Emporia, Ks., for nearly 20 years. He and Linda had many ties within the community, including a close-knit softball group, other athletic activities, and many friends. Scott worked as an Interior Designer and was involved in the Emporia Junior Chamber of Commerce and the Emporia United Way. After being diagnosed with ALS in 1991, Scott and his family moved back to Manhattan. Even with a devastating diagnosis, Scott defied the odds with the love and support of his family and friends, most notably his incredible wife, Linda. He was able to achieve many goals most thought impossible throughout his 32-year battle with ALS. Scott was able to enjoy both of his children graduate high school and college, find the loves of their lives, see his grandchildren grow and thrive, inspire others, and live a meaningful life with grace that was filled with love. Scott is survived by his wife, Linda. Additional survivors include his two sons: Chris Jennings and his wife Summer of Kearney, Mo. and Eric Jennings and his wife Amber of Topeka, Ks.; his father: Robert Jennings of Bixby, Ok.; two siblings: Teresa “TJ” Blair and her husband Matt of Sun Lakes, Az and Jeff Jennings and his wife Kathy of Manhattan, Ks.; and four grandchildren: Brendon, Noah, Skylar, and Blake. Even with a devastating diagnosis, Scott defied the odds with the love and support of his family and friends, most notably his incredible wife, Linda. He was able to achieve many goals most thought impossible throughout his 32-year battle with ALS. Scott was able to enjoy both of his children graduate high school and college, find the loves of their lives, see his grandchildren grow and thrive, inspire others, and live a meaningful life with grace that was filled with love. Scott is survived by his wife, Linda. Additional survivors include his two sons: Chris Jennings and his wife Summer of Kearney, Mo. and Eric Jennings and his wife Amber of Topeka, Ks.; his father: Robert Jennings of Bixby, Ok.; two siblings: Teresa “TJ” Blair and her husband Matt of Sun Lakes, Az and Jeff Jennings and his wife Kathy of Manhattan, Ks.; and four grandchildren: Brendon, Noah, Skylar, and Blake. A Celebration of Scott’s life will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. Saturday, July 2, at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home. Casual dress, in celebration of Scott, is requested by the family. Martin, Ph.D., passed away on June 10, 2022, in Wamego, KS.&nbsp; A devoted husband and father, Jack was married to Vicki Lynn Flesher Martin on August 6, 1961, who proceeded him in death on their 55th&nbsp;wedding anniversary in 2016, and together they had three children, Sharla, Kelly, and Justin.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Born on January 17, 1936, in Parsons, KS to Bert and Goldie Martin, Jackie Wayne Martin was the youngest of seven children.&nbsp; He had very fond memories of growing up in Parsons, enjoying friendships, playing baseball, and being doted on by his older siblings and their spouses.&nbsp; Baseball was a great passion in his youth and even beyond his 1954 graduation from Parsons High School. It was, however, his work as a psychiatric aid (beginning in 1957) and then eventually a clinical psychologist (1963-66), along with the guidance and encouragement of great mentors and colleagues, at the Parsons State Hospital and Training Center (PSH&amp;TC) that inspired him to pursue further education in the field of psychology.&nbsp; Having earned a bachelor of science degree in industrial arts and psychology from Kansas State College of Pittsburg (Pittsburg State University) in 1961, he went on to receive a master’s degree in psychology from there as well, and then a Ph.D. from the University of Oregon in 1969.&nbsp;

Upon the completion of his doctorate, Jack and Vicki tossed their 4-year-old and 9-day-old daughters in the back seat of their car and drove back to their hometown of Parsons to raise their family and continue their careers.&nbsp; They proudly welcomed a son to the mix in 1975.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Jack spent his career working to build opportunities for those with special needs and those affected by mental health issues. He served as clinical director and clinical psychologist for the Southeast Kansas Mental Health Center in Humboldt, before joining the PSH&amp;TC hospital staff as the chief psychologist in the outpatient center in 1970.&nbsp; In 1979, he was a key part in establishing the Labette Center for Mental Health Services, Inc. (LCMHS), and he served as the Administrator of LCMHS from 1979 until his retirement in 2002.&nbsp; After retirement, he served as a Labette County Commissioner from 2008-2016.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Jack truly valued his friends and connections in the Parsons community.&nbsp; Over the years he was locally a part of Wesley United Methodist Church, Parsons Country Club, Katy Golf Course, Parsons Rotary Club, Elks Club, and a pretty fabulous couples bridge group, as well as serving on numerous boards.&nbsp; He particularly loved coaching and “cheering” on his kids (and so many Parsons area kids) as well as supporting his children and grandchildren in whatever activity or passion they were pursuing.&nbsp;

Jack was an enthusiast of both the past and the present. His storytelling was full of life and his smooth-talking, quick-thinking, fun spirit made life full. His stories will live on through his family and friends. Norman V. Thompson Jr. 71, of Alta Vista, KS, passed away on Monday, June 20, 2022 in Manhattan, KS. Cremation will take place. A graveside service with military honors will take place at 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 16, 2022 at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery. Norman was born October 29, 1950, in El Dorado, KS, the son of Norman V. and Margaret (Foster) Thompson, Sr. Norman served in the United States Army for twenty years until his retirement in 1990. After his retirement, he went to work at Fort Riley repairing helicopters. He was an avid gun collector. He was a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge where he attended the Alta Vista Masonic Lodge. He recently was awarded a twenty five year member. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. On March 5, 1979, he married Mary T. Thompson in Dale County, AL. Survivors include his wife Mary of the home in Alta Vista, KS; one son, Norman V. Thompson, III of Wamego, KS; three daughters, Tabitha Jenkins-Frazier of SC, Brandy Gordy of AL and Nicole Hayes of San Antonio, TX; ten grandchildren; one brother, Mike Thompson; two sisters, Stephanie Penner and Dawn Ann Haymart all of NE. Paul Dean Brown, 84, of Abilene, passed away Friday, June 17, 2022, at Abilene Memorial Hospital. Paul was born June 23, 1937, in Abilene, KS, the seventh of eight children born to Ray and Luella (Lyne) Brown. On July 28, 1967, he married Joyce Throne. They made their home in Abilene where they raised their two daughters. Paul graduated from Abilene High School in 1955. During high school, he began working for Ronald Rice Motors in the autobody department. In 1963 Paul left Abilene to attend Miltonvale Wesleyan College where he studied theology and provided ministry for several small churches. Paul returned to Abilene in 1964 to work for Vacu-Blast. He and his family relocated to New Jersey in 1984 where he worked for Vacu-Blast International. The family returned to Abilene in 1985. Paul worked for CE/ABB Raymond, Midco Plastics, Custom Metal Fabricators, and Abrasive Blast until retiring. After retirement, Paul worked at Emmanuel Church for ten years. Throughout life, Paul enjoyed camping and traveling with his family. He was an avid fisherman and participated in league bowling for several years. One of Paul’s greatest joys in retirement was spending time with his great-grandsons. A man of faith, his lifelong love of the Lord led Paul to minister in nursing homes and prisons. Paul is survived by his wife, Joyce; daughters, Denise Thompson (Donnie) of Benton, KY, Darla Thompson (Mike Legan) of Wichita, KS; grandchildren, Dustin Thompson (Elizabeth) of Louisville, KY, Devin Thompson of Benton, KY, Heather Vanover (Kegan) of Hope, KS, and Lucas Thompson of Rock Springs, WY; three great-grandsons, Kyland Vanover, Koy Vanover, and Caleb Thompson; and many nieces, nephews, and other beloved family members. Bill Pursley was born November 3, 1946 in Vancouver, Washington to William N. and Dolores L. Pursley. Bill suffered a stroke on June 9, 2022 and passed June 12, 2022. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Greg Pursley; sister-in-law, Cindy Pursley; and daughter-in-law, Jamie Barkes-Pursley.

Bill married Katharyn L. Cook (Kitty) on August 29, 1969, in St. Augustine Florida, and has two wonderful children: Jennifer R. Pursley of Manhattan, and Aaron W. Pursley of Dandridge, TN, and his wife Sara Meyer-Pursley; grandchildren: Kayden Pursley, Kellen Meyer and Sophia Meyer; niece, Melissa Humphries and her husband Nick Humphries; nephew, Jeff Pursley and his wife Nicole Pursley; and great niece, Ella and great nephew, Everett.

Bill had a passion for life and loved his family and friends first and foremost. He loved hunting, fishing, and anything outdoors, always had his beloved hunting dogs by his side. Bill was one of the lucky ones that maintained life-long friendships from his high school and college days. He also loved the people he worked with and the industry in which he chose to do his life’s work.

Bill received his Master’s Degree in Grain Science from Kansas State University and joined the American Institute of Baking in 1975. He began his career in the food industry in the North East US and Canada as a food safety auditor, and moved to AIB’s headquarters in Manhattan in 1978 as Program Coordinator. He later became Director of the Audit Services and started the Food Safety &amp; Defense Educational Department. During this time, Bill was also instrumental in establishing offices or co-associations within many countries in Europe, Asia, and Latin America. Bill retired in 2012 as Vice-President of Food Safety Education with AIB International and continued to teach and consult within the food industry. With over 37 years of experience in the industry, Bill was internationally recognized as one of the leading Food Safety trainers in the world, and conducted numerous training seminars and audits. Bill was given the George B. Wagner Award at the International Association of Operative Millers’ (IAOM) 115th annual conference. This award recognizes outstanding contributions to mill sanitation and food safety and in September, 2003, Bill was inducted into the Food Engineering Hall of Fame. Bill was proud of these accomplishments, but what made him the proudest were the accomplishments of his children and those around him. He always put others first. We will remember Bill’s zest for life even when it presented challenges, his laughter, and his love of family and friends. Until we meet again!

Bill Pursley - November 3, 1946 - June 12, 2022

Marjorie Ann Bergmann, 93, of Lillis, Kansas, died Monday, June 20, 2022. She was a life-long resident of the Lillis community.

Marjorie was born on September 20, 1928, in Grove, Kansas, the daughter of Joseph and Carrie (Slansky) Kalcik. She graduated from Silver Lake High School in 1946.

Marjorie married Edward L. Bergmann on September 24, 1949, at Assumption Catholic Church in Topeka, Kansas. Marjorie spent her adult life as a homemaker and farm wife, doing her part to make the family farm successful. After nearly sixty years of marriage, Edward preceded her in death on May 3, 2009.

Marjorie was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Altar Society in Lillis. After the church was closed in 2009, she attended St. Columbkille’s Catholic Church in Blaine. She enjoyed making beautiful quilts, tending her garden, and planting flower beds. She was an excellent cook and was locally famous for her home-made Kolache. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and with her dogs Nell and Bentley.

Marjorie is survived by her children; Susan Heiser (Donnie), Kearney, Missouri, Robert Bergmann (Ruth), Lillis, William Bergmann (Deb), Lillis, Carolyn Seematter (Dean), Frankfort, Joseph Bergmann (Pam), Santa Clara, California, Annie Holle (Scott), Steamboat Springs, Colorado, David Bergmann (Kim), Lawrence, and Conrad Bergmann (Cheryl), Salina; twenty-four grandchildren and twenty-four great-grandchildren. Marjorie was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Sierra; and her siblings, Viola Hoover, Herbert Kalcik, and Raymond Kalcik.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 28, 2022, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Lillis. Father Anthony Chendumalli will be the Celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. The family will greet friends, at the church in Lillis, on Monday June 27, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. A rosary prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m.

She was a life-long resident of the Lillis community.Marjorie was born on September 20, 1928, in Grove, Kansas, the daughter of Joseph and Carrie (Slansky) Kalcik. She graduated from Silver Lake High School in 1946.Marjorie married Edward L. Bergmann on September 24, 1949, at Assumption Catholic Church in Topeka, Kansas. Marjorie spent her adult life as a homemaker and farm wife, doing her part to make the family farm successful. After nearly sixty years of marriage, Edward preceded her in death on May 3, 2009.Marjorie was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Altar Society in Lillis. After the church was closed in 2009, she attended St. Columbkille’s Catholic Church in Blaine. She enjoyed making beautiful quilts, tending her garden, and planting flower beds. She was an excellent cook and was locally famous for her home-made Kolache. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and with her dogs Nell and Bentley.Marjorie is survived by her children; Susan Heiser (Donnie), Kearney, Missouri, Robert Bergmann (Ruth), Lillis, William Bergmann (Deb), Lillis, Carolyn Seematter (Dean), Frankfort, Joseph Bergmann (Pam), Santa Clara, California, Annie Holle (Scott), Steamboat Springs, Colorado, David Bergmann (Kim), Lawrence, and Conrad Bergmann (Cheryl), Salina; twenty-four grandchildren and twenty-four great-grandchildren. Marjorie was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Sierra; and her siblings, Viola Hoover, Herbert Kalcik, and Raymond Kalcik.Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 28, 2022, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Lillis. Father Anthony Chendumalli will be the Celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. The family will greet friends, at the church in Lillis, on Monday June 27, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. A rosary prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. At Marjorie’s request, memorial contributions can be made to St. Joseph’s Preservation, Inc., or St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, and may be sent in care of Campanella and Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego.

Marjorie Ann Bergmann

Donna Mae Tankersley, 87, of Hutchinson, died June 20, 2022, at 
Sunshine Meadows in Buhler. She was born August 26, 1934, in Wichita, to
 Elwood “Dick” and Floy (Williams) Dague.

Donna graduated from high school in Wichita. She worked as a 
bookkeeper for over 60 years, 20 of those years being with Bogue Iron in
 Wichita. Over the years, Donna lived in Wichita, Hutchinson, Manhattan,
 and Anchorage, Alaska. She enjoyed boating and was a talented water 
skier and she enjoyed playing blackjack.

She was married to Donald Gene Tankersley, for over 50 years before his passing on November 25, 2009.

Donna is survived by: her brother, Elwood “Dick” Dague Jr.; son, 
Scott Tankersley (Sandy), Hutchinson; daughter, Stacy Ayres (Tim), 
Hutchinson; grandchildren, Shawna Tankersley, Nikki Tankersley, Justin 
Tankersley (Angie), Wendy McBride (Josh) and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Don Tankersley; 
son, Steve Tankersley and sisters, Norma Pallet and Katy Smoot.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Herbert Bruce Dimmitt died peacefully in his sleep on June 18, 2022, at Chapman Valley Manor, in Chapman, Kansas. He was 90 years old. Bruce is survived by his wife Marilyn, also of Chapman Valley Manor; daughter Shari of Arlington, Virginia, son Andy of Manhattan, Kansas, and daughter Debby (Greg Ponton) of Manchester, Kansas; brother Larry (Lois) of Topeka, Kansas, and sister Rosemary (Robert York) of Garden City, Kansas; grandsons, Daniel, James, and Michael; five great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents Herbert Andrew Dimmitt and Mary Duncan Dimmitt, as well as his brother Albert Sr. Bruce was born in Manhattan, Kansas, in November 1931. He grew up in Kansas City, Kansas, and returned to Manhattan for college. He graduated from Manhattan Christian College, served in the U.S. Army, and then attended professional graduate classes at Kansas State University. He was a career federal employee, working primarily in Washington, D.C. Bruce professed an unwavering faith in God, taking Jesus Christ as his lifelong personal savior, and served his various church communities in numerous capacities. Bruce had a great interest in American history, football, and catching people off guard with his dry sense of humor. He was known to pose questions and make replies that often-left folks scratching their heads and wondering if what they thought they heard was really what he meant to say. He will be greatly missed. The family will greet friends during a visitation from 6:30 until 8:00 p.m. Friday June 24, 2022 at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home in Manhattan.
