Manhattan High School boys and girls teams competed in the State Track Meet at Cessna Stadium in Wichita Friday and Saturday. The girls squad scored 45.5 points to finish fifth while the boys team scored 23 points to finish in 13th place in Class 6A.

For the girls, Gili Johnson won the triple jump with a mark of 38-2.75 and finished third in the long jump at 17-06.00. Teuila Ilalio finished with a throw of 38-8.75, Hanna Pellant 4th in the 100 meter dash in 12.07 and Hanna Loub captured fifth in 2:21.37.&nbsp; In the boys competition Manhattan finished third in the 4 x 800 meter relay in 8:13.74.&nbsp;

MANHATTAN, Kan.&nbsp;– Kansas State men’s basketball head coach&nbsp;Jerome Tang&nbsp;has announced his first-ever summer camp schedule, which includes three camps running from June 10-16, for area youths on the university campus.

The first-year head coach, along with his coaching staff, will direct these summer camps, which begin with the Parent/Child Camp (grades K-6) from Friday-Saturday, June 10-11. The camp season also includes the Junior Wildcat (ages 4-7) and Wildcat Camps (grades 3-6), which run from Tuesday-Thursday, June 14-16.&nbsp;&nbsp;

All camps will be played at the Ice Family Basketball Center on the K-State campus. These camps are open to all entrants, limited only by number, age and grade level. The camper’s grade level is the one heading into the 2022-23 school year.

The Parent/Child Camp offers participants a great opportunity to spend a special weekend with the K-State basketball team on Friday-Saturday, June 10-11. Campers will enjoy learning drills and playing games with the players and coaches. All participants will be provided with housing, dinner on Friday and breakfast on Saturday, a K-State Basketball T-shirt and campers will receive a K-State Basketball.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Registration will begin on Friday, June 10 at 5 p.m., CT and the camp will begin at 6 p.m., CT. The camp will conclude on Saturday, June 11 at noon. The cost is $250 per pair and $100 for each additional child.

The Junior Wildcat and Wildcat Camps will be conducted from Tuesday-Thursday, June 14-16. The Junior Wildcat Camp, which runs from 9-11 a.m., CT, is available to campers ages 4-7 at a cost of $125 per camper. Oklahoma defeats K-State in Big 12 semi's

The Salina Liberty will return to the Tony’s Pizza Events Center one final time in the 2022 regular season as the team looks to put on a show against the Topeka Tropics on Military Appreciation Night.

The 5-3 Liberty enter the final two weeks of the season tied with Omaha for the three-seed, with a first-round bye held by Billings still in their sights.

“We still want home field and that’s still within reach,” Salina HC Heron O’Neal said. “But the main thing is still improving on the week before every time we take the field and that doesn’t change with our opponents.”

This week's foe comes in the form of the 0-8 Topeka Tropics, still in search of the first win of their inaugural season. Despite the troubles for Topeka, the Tropics have played much better down the stretch and taken some of the best teams in the league deep into games.

“They have a lot of new skilled athletes and veterans up front on offense,” O’Neal said. “Their record is not indicative of who they are and we can’t overlook them, we have to prepare for war.”

After putting on a show with three touchdowns in last week's big win in Sioux City, Javin Kilgo has been named QB1 and will start under center this week for a revitalized Liberty offense.

“Kilgo is a guy that we’ve been after for a little while here and the stars finally aligned that we were able to get him,” he said. “He’s extremely talented, he understands our system well and he has supreme arm talent. He’s done everything we’ve asked him to do and we would be crazy to not name him the starter for right now.”

This will also be Kilgo’s debut in front of the Liberty faithful as Salina prepares for one final home game ahead of the 2022 playoffs.

“We’re extremely excited to get back home and to stay off that bus,” O’Neal said. “It’s nice to wake up in your own bed and sometimes you take that for granted until you have a long road trip. I can’t wait to have the warmth of our crowd embrace us and we have a lot of special things happening for Military Appreciation Night.”

Kickoff between the Liberty and Tropics is set for 6:35 pm with the official tailgate starting the party at 3.

The Wildcats will open the year on September 3 against South Dakota at 6 p.m., in a game televised by Big 12 Now. The ESPN+ streaming service will also carry the Wildcats’ final non-conference game of the regular season against Tulane on September 17 beginning at 2 p.m.

Renewing a 100-year rivalry with a former conference foe, K-State’s matchup on September 10 against Missouri will kick off at 11 a.m. and will be televised by ESPN2.

As in years past, all remaining game times and television information will be selected on a 12- or six-day basis throughout the season.

MANHATTAN, Kan.&nbsp;– Whether it’s the buzz created by first-year men’s basketball coach&nbsp;Jerome Tang&nbsp;or the return of 2022 consensus All-American&nbsp;Ayoka Lee&nbsp;and four other starters from a women’s basketball team that advanced to the NCAA Tournament, excitement continues to build for the Kansas State men’s and women’s basketball teams heading into the 2022-23 season.

And building off that momentum, K-State Athletics is excited to offer fans several new premium seating options in Bramlage Coliseum for the 2022-23 home season. These upgrades will provide fans unique and exciting views of Wildcat men’s and women’s basketball as they compete in the best conference in the country.

Among these new seating options will be 36 courtside seats along the north baseline of the arena, four additional Loge boxes in Sections 16 and 17 and Sections 22 and 23 and the introduction of the Legends Lounge, which will span from Sections 17-22 above the student seating area and directly below the current Loge boxes.

For fans wanting an up-close experience in Bramlage Coliseum, the north baseline area adjacent to the home bench will feature 36 courtside seats. Eighteen premium padded chairs (10 on the east side and eight on the west side of the goal) with a prime view of the action, while a second row of 18 seats will be elevated for clear view of the court. Among the amenities for this area include in-seat hospitality service, access to the Shamrock Zone as well as a parking pass.

These new courtside seats require a $4,500 annual donation per seat plus a $645 per season ticket, while those located on the second row will require a $4,000 annual donation per seat plus a $545 per season ticket.

Four new Loge boxes will be added to the existing inventory on the east side of Bramlage Coliseum, including two 8-person boxes in Sections 16 and 23 and two 4-person boxes in Sections 17 and 22. Fans purchasing these boxes will receive the same amenities as current Loge box holders, including personal TVs and in-game catering and beverage service. These boxes require a $3,000 annual donation per seat plus a $645 per season ticket.

The new Legends Lounge will provide a unique viewing experience above one of the most raucous student sections in college basketball with six sections of two-tiered premium cocktail bar-style seating spanning Sections 17-22. Fans in this new area will be guaranteed a cushioned rolling chair within this shared premium area with in-seat hospitality service, access to the Shamrock Zone as well as a parking pass. Seats require a $2,000 annual donation per seat plus a $545 per season ticket.

The new premium seating options are expected to generate approximately $500,000 in additional revenue for K-State Athletics.

Requests for any of these new premium seat options can be made by calling the Ahearn Fund at (888) 232.9074. The deadline for requesting these new seat options is Monday, August 1 with seat selection occurring by priority point order shortly after the deadline.

With the addition of these new premium seating options, the department has announced changes to the seating for the pep band and the media. The pep band will now occupy seating in Sections 22-23, while the media will move to seating in the lower rows of Section 25 near the tunnel on the south end of the arena.

Season tickets for both men’s and women’s basketball teams will go on sale on Monday, June 6.

Royals lose six run lead and the ballgame

The Salina Liberty waltzed into Sioux City and handed the last undefeated team in the CIF their first loss on Saturday defeating the Bandits 39-30.

With this big bounce-back win the Liberty have clinched one of this year’s six playoff berths at 5-3 while Sioux City stays atop the standings at 7-1.

The top two scoring defenses in the league came to play in the first half as neither team would find the scoreboard through the first quarter, and Salina preserved their shutout through the intermission.

Sioux City battled but the Liberty remained in control from wire to wire, taking the lead on a second-quarter field goal from Jimmy Allen and never looking back.

Following two lackluster performances under center, Vincent Espinoza was replaced by Javin Kilgo, who became the fourth different QB to start a game for the Liberty this season.

After taking a half to get to grips, Kilgo put on a show, completing 14-18 for 152 yards and tossing three touchdowns without a pick including two to Demarius Washington to put Salina on top 29-6.

Washington quickly established himself as a go-to receiver for Kilgo, hauling in half of his completions for 115 yards to go along with the pair of touchdowns.

The Liberty defense did their part all throughout forcing two critical turnovers including a fumble recovery in the end zone by Anthony Love for a big early touchdown.

Sioux City outscored Salina 24-10 to close out the game but it was far too little far too late as the Liberty secured the series split with their long-time rival.

It was also a triumphant return for the former Special Teams Player of the Year Jimmy Allen as the kicker tacked on eight points including two field big goals in the nine-point victory.

The Liberty will return to Salina next week for their final home game of the 2022 season hosting the 0-8 Topeka Tropics while the Bandits travel to Billings for a battle of the current top-two teams.

Kilgo dazzles in debut as Liberty hand Bandits first loss

With just three games remaining on the regular-season calendar the Salina Liberty will head north for a Saturday rematch against the Sioux City Bandits.

The Bandits lead the CIF as the only undefeated team left standing at 7-0 while Salina comes in at 4-3, fresh off a tough loss to the Omaha Beef.

“I thought that was a great defensive ballgame,” Liberty HC Heron O’Neal said. “Our offense didn’t play as well as it needed to across the board and that was our worst offensive output since I’ve been here. That was an eye-opener and we’ll be looking to shake things up and maybe bring some new people in. We know what we need to do moving forward.”

Any future Salina success will hinge on new quarterback Vincent Espinoza, who still has the full confidence of the coaching staff despite a few recent lackluster performances.

“I think he's is settling in nicely,” O’Neal said. “This is his first real live-action with the indoor game and we’ve put a lot on him but he’s been about where we hoped he would be. He has to be better but we have to be better around him to fix this offense.”

The Liberty will need to look sharp this week against a Bandits team that boasts the top scoring offense (51.1 ppg) and the second-best scoring defense (31 ppga) in the CIF.

“They have a very physical defense and they’ve got Dajon Emory who’s one of the top three defensive linemen in this league,” he said. “Offensively quarterback Lorenzo Brown sat out last week but he should be ready to go and he’s a front runner for MVP in my opinion as a dual-threat who’s won five national titles.”

Despite missing a game Brown remains third in the league in almost every passing category, completing 60% of his passes for just shy of 800 yards, 18 touchdowns, and just two interceptions.

“We have to make plays when we have opportunities,” O’Neal said. “We can’t drop interceptions or miss chances to strip a ball and we have to be sound up front and in our linebacker core to stop the run.”

While the Salina offense has struggled at times this season, the defense has remained as steady as ever and enters this week as the most dominant in the league, holding opponents to just 26 points per game on average.

“I’ve been impressed with how our defense has stood by our offense in practices and in games despite the low output,” he said. “They could easily be pointing the finger but we haven’t had that at all and that togetherness has been great to see.”

Top-two defenses collide as Liberty travel to Sioux City

MANHATTAN, Kan.&nbsp;– The Kansas State men’s basketball team will play host to longtime rival Nebraska in the Wildcat Classic on Saturday, December 17 at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City.

The 10 matchups were jointly determined by the two conferences and will be played on various campuses starting on Tuesday, November 29 and running through Sunday, December 4. The class, which will be officially inducted the weekend of the season opener against South Dakota, includes linebacker&nbsp;Arthur Brown&nbsp;(2011-12), running back&nbsp;Larry Brown&nbsp;(1967-68), defensive end&nbsp;Darren Howard&nbsp;(1996-99), quarterback&nbsp;Collin Klein&nbsp;(2009-12), wide receiver&nbsp;Tyler Lockett&nbsp;(2011-14) and quarterback&nbsp;Ell Roberson&nbsp;(2000-03).

“Each of these men hold a special place in the history of our program, and it will be an honor to be a part of their induction into our Ring of Honor,” head coach&nbsp;Chris Klieman&nbsp;said. “Their hard work and achievements on the field are well-documented, and we are excited to welcome them back to Manhattan for a special induction weekend.”

The Class of 2022 accumulated 31 total All-America citations during their careers, including 11 first-team honors. They have combined to reside in the top 10 of K-State game, single-season or career records on 209 occasions, which includes 48 total school records. The group also includes four Big 12 Champions with Roberson leading the Wildcats to a 35-7 win over No. 1 Oklahoma in the 2003 Big 12 Championship game, while Arthur Brown, Klein and Lockett were members of the 2012 Big 12 Championship team.

The Royals have scored 118 runs through their first 32 games, better only than the Tigers, Orioles and White Sox. Their 21 home runs trail only the Tigers and Red Sox for the worst total in the big leagues. Keoni DeRenne will remain the assistant hitting coach and Mike Tosar the special assignment hitting coach.
