ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — Former Michigan quarterback Shea Patterson has agreed to terms with the Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted free agent. Agent Bryan Ehrlich confirmed the deal.

Patterson started all 26 games for the Wolverines over the past two seasons after transferring from Mississippi. Patterson threw for 3,061 yards with 23 touchdowns and eight interceptions this season. He threw 45 touchdown passes in his two years at Michigan.

Patterson passed for 131 yards in this year’s Senior Bowl. Patterson started 10 games at Ole Miss but transferred after the school was hit by NCAA sanctions. He was granted eligibility at Michigan in 2018 without sitting out a year.

The Board of Directors for the Kansas State High School Athletics Association has approved new summer guidelines. effective June 1st. When it is permitted by the community's local health authorities&nbsp; and school district administration, effective June 1st, school employed coaches may begin their summer programs with their prospective student participants.&nbsp;

Basketball coaches may not hold team camp or work with their players between August 3rd and August 16th since that time is dedicated to fall preparations.

Football must complete three calendar weeks of conditioning, with foot ball drills allowed on the second and third weeks as well.

Following the conditioning weeks and through Aug. 3rd coaches may work with their athletes on football related activities, have 7 on 7 competitions, 5 on 5 competitions, a one-week team camp, and continue strength and conditioning.

From Aug. 3rd through the 15th coaches can work with their athletes on football related activities, conduct a one-week team camp and continue strength and conditioning.

One team vs. team camps will be permitted this summer and must be conducted by a third party.

KSHSAA said many students have not had the opportunity to train on a regular basis this spring. A gradual acclimation to physical activity has been shown to lower the risk of injury. If summer is delayed, a team camp right before the start of fall practice would probably be beneficial.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The recommendations are based on an anticipated practice starting date of Aug. 17 for fall sports. If there is a delay in the start, the calendar of recommendations may be modified.

Preparations are being made for the Junction City Brigade to play baseball this summer. This is a work in progress as recovery begins following the COVID-19 virus.

The general manager of the summer collegiate baseball team, Cecil Aska said after a Mid-Plains League conference call the staring date was tentatively moved back from May 27th to June 15th. "But we're going to have another conference call May 12th. By then all of the different teams within their communities should have a better idea of what restrictions may or may not be on there. So we'll finalize things on May 12th but right now we're moving forward with plans to play, effective June 15th." Officials are still talking about playing a full schedule, which means it would run until about Aug. 12th.

Aska explained he is preparing to have a conversation with local health officials so there can be a determination on what needs to be in place to accommodate requirements such as social distancing.

There still have to be preparations with sponsors, getting equipment, preparing the field, and determining what must be done to ensure the safety of the players and fans, including the team's travel to away games.

One area of need is host families. "When we have a better handle what we can do to assure the host families we may need some additional host families. " Players often live with host families during the summer while they play for the Brigade.

MANHATTAN, Kan.&nbsp;–<a></a>&nbsp;Daren Koudele, an eight-year member of the K-State Compliance office who has increased his role throughout his time in Manhattan, has been promoted to Senior Associate Athletics Director for Compliance, Athletics Director&nbsp;Gene Taylor&nbsp;announced.

Koudele, who previously served as an Associate AD for Compliance and was the second in command of the office, will now oversee the entire compliance operation for K-State as he replaces Lindsey Babcock, who left earlier this year for Wake Forest.

“Daren has been a major part of our compliance office’s operation for the past eight years, and he has proven that he is ready for this new opportunity,” Taylor said. “He has been instrumental in our department’s stability during this unprecedented time, which has included daily NCAA rules updates and changes. We look forward to him building his team and leading our compliance efforts.”

In addition to leading the compliance staff, Koudele’s new role will also see him develop procedures to ensure institutional control; develop and monitor compliance systems pertaining to recruitment, admission, eligibility, financial aid and housing; oversee and monitor all recruiting activities performed by coaches; ensure compliance with NCAA and Big 12 Conference rules; and establish and oversee procedures for administration of the National Letter of Intent, among other duties.

YORK, S.C. (AP) — Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Bashaud Breeland has been arrested in South Carolina for resisting arrest and other offenses.

Breeland, who is from Charlotte, was arrested in York County, just south of the North Carolina-South Carolina border. Breeland was also charged with driving with an open container of alcohol, possession of marijuana or hash and driving without a license.

Breeland had seven tackles and an interception in the Chiefs' 31-20 Super Bowl win over San Francisco two months ago.&nbsp;

Included is a plan in which the 30 teams could be split into three regional divisions. Teams could be restricted to playing within their region. 

That idea, if used, would break up the traditional alignments of the American and National Leagues. It also would cut travel. The start of the season has been delayed because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The 6-foot Sloan spent his junior season with Kansas State, where he started nine of 32 games. The native of Louisville, Kentucky, averaged 5.3 points and 2.3 assists per game. He had 19 games with one turnover, including seven with none.

MANHATTAN, Kan.&nbsp;– Kansas State head coach&nbsp;Bruce Weber&nbsp;added to his highly-touted 2020 recruiting class with the signing of junior college forward&nbsp;Carlton Linguard&nbsp;(San Antonio, Texas/Stevens/Temple College [Texas])&nbsp;to a National Letter of Intent on Monday (April 20).

A 6-foot-11, 200-pound power forward, Linguard will have three years of eligibility remaining after playing just one season at Temple College in Temple, Texas, where he ranked among the best shot blockers and rebounders in the NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association) in 2019-20. He will be the seventh member of the 2020 recruiting class, which is listed among the Top 25 in the country by a variety of recruiting services.

“Carlton is a player we have been following for quite some time,” said Weber. “He is a versatile big guy who kind of came out of nowhere, playing for a smaller high school and didn’t have the exposure of AAU. He had very few offers coming out of high school, so he opted to play at the community college level at Temple (College) where he developed over the last year playing for a really, good coach in&nbsp;Kirby Johnson, who recently retired after winning a lot of games at the level.”

A native of San Antonio, Texas, Linguard was part of the one of the most prolific community college teams this past season at Temple College, which ranked in the NJCAA’s Top 10 in 12 categories, including in each major category (scoring, rebounding, assists, steals and blocks). The Leopards were second in nationally in scoring at better than 102 points per game (102.7 ppg., while averaging 47 rebounds (sixth, 20.5 assists (10th, 12.3 steals (eighth) and 6.2 blocks (fourth) per game head coach&nbsp;Kirby Johnson, who has won more than 700 games in his career.

Linguard was instrumental in several of those rankings, placing in the NJCAA’s Top 5 in blocked shots (3.6 bpg./4th) and offensive rebounds (4.3 rpg./5th, while averaging a near double-double at 13.3 points and 9.5 rebounds per game for the season. He also ranked 23rd&nbsp;nationally in rebounding (9.5 rpg.) and 27th&nbsp;in total rebounds (285). He connected on 51.4 percent (164-of-319) from the field and 70.1 percent (61-of-87) from the free throw line.

As a freshman, Linguard was named to both the All-NJCAA Region 5 as well as the All-Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference teams. He was one of just five true freshmen on the 12-man Region 5 team.

“He is a very skilled big guy with great length and has good perimeter range and passing ability,” said Weber. “He needs weight and strength, but he will get those once he gets in our program with (strength coach) Ben (O’Donnell). I think I was one of the first high-level coaches to visit him in the Fall and Coach (Kirby) Johnson told me, ‘Take him right now, redshirt him and three years he has a chance to be a pro.’ We will see how that develops once he gets here, but he definitely has high potential.”

Linguard scored in double figures in 25 of 30 games played, including a pair of 20-point performances, while he collected 12 double-doubles. He also posted 15 games of at least 4 blocked shots, including a season-best 11 in an 87-68 loss at Ranger on Feb. 19. One of his more impressive efforts came in a 118-106 win at Grayson on Jan. 8, in which, he poured in a season-high 28 points on 11-of-19 shooting to go with a season-tying 17 rebounds.

Temple College posted a 24-7 overall record in 2019-20 in one of the most difficult regions (Region 5) in the community college ranks, which produced two Top 10 teams (Clarendon and Ranger) and sent three squads (Clarendon, Ranger and South Plains) to the NJCAA National Championship in Hutchinson, Kansas.

The classic ‘late bloomer’, Linguard was a three-year lettermen and two-year starter at Stevens High School in his hometown of San Antonio. After posting a total of 12 points and 27 rebounds as a sophomore in 2016-17, he averaged 13 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.4 blocks in playing a combined 58 games as a junior and senior.

As a senior in 2018-19, Linguard averaged 15.3 points on 49 percent shooting (188-of-387) to go with 7.5 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game for a Stevens’ team that posted a 19-13 overall record and advanced to the Region 4 quarterfinals of the Class 6A UIL State Tournament under head coach&nbsp;Michael Raynes. He was a unanimous First Team All-District 28-6A selection and earned Second Team All-Academic honors. He led the Falcons in rebounding and blocked shots, while he was second in scoring. He scored in double figures in 24 of 31 games played, including eight 20-point games, while he posted 10 double-doubles.
