The Atlanta Braves have taken a two-games-to-none lead in the National League Championship Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Kansas City Chiefs game against the Buffalo Bills that was scheduled for this Thursday has been moved by the NFL to a 4 p.m. Monday starting time, according to the Chiefs Radio Network.

Parker, a native of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, carded five tackles and had a 37-yard interception return touchdown in the third quarter, which proved to be the difference in the game. Parker’s pick six was the first of his career and the first by a Wildcat since Duke Shelley returned an interception 25 yards for a score at Texas Tech in 2017. Parker now has six career interceptions, which is tied for 14th&nbsp;nationally among active players.

Howard became the first true freshman quarterback in school history to win his first-career road start. He set up K-State’s first scoring drive with an 80-yard run, which was the seventh-longest run in school history and second among quarterbacks. He also powered into the end zone in the second quarter on a 4-yard run. A product of Downingtown, Pennsylvania, Howard finished the game throwing for 117 yards on 8-of-19 passing, while he finished with 86 rushing yards and a touchdown.

Wildcats Nab Pair of Big 12 Weekly Honors

In place of Head Coach Les Miles, Defensive Coordinator DJ Eliot spoke to the media on behalf of Kansas Monday during the Big 12 Coaches Teleconference.

Miles, who tested positive for COVID-19 late last week has been in quarantine, but keeping close communication with Eliot and his other coaches and players via Zoom.&nbsp;

Eliot said that Coach Miles put a plan into place immediately after testing positive on Thursday, and that Miles is expected to be at KU's next contest against West Virginia on Saturday.

When asked if having a bye this past week helped in dealing with Coach Miles' absence, Eliot mentioned again that Miles although not physically present, has been very active in the team's preparation and meetings.&nbsp;

Eliot also addressed how Miles was not the first person on the team to test positive, so he was confident in the guidelines and protocols the team had in place to make sure that the "limited number" of cases Kansas has had as a team stays that way.&nbsp;

"It's important that all members of the team and staff do their part to take care of each other," said Eliot. "We are well-versed in someone on the team testing positive for Covid and we've had a very limited spread here at Kansas, and we feel comfortable where we are."

On the football side of things, Eliot was asked about his thoughts on the Big 12's defensive reputation, and if him seeing the SEC defenses begin to struggle more with the up-tempo style that has recently appeared in one of the nation's toughest defensive conferences.&nbsp;

"The only power five conference I haven't coached in is the Big Ten, so I've seen a lot of different styles of attack and I've seen a lot of different approaches and I think that the up-tempo spread attack is popular and I think it's going to trickle into the other conferences as well," said Eliot. " So, I wouldn't say that I'm excited, I almost felt sorry for the defensive coordinators to be honest with you because I've kind of felt their pain before."

Eliot went on to discuss how he thought that the trend was only going to continue and that the up-tempo spread style will start to become more apparent in other leagues.&nbsp;

The Jayhawks will continue to prepare for yet another spread-style opponent when they take on West Virginia on the road this weekend.&nbsp;

Kansas DC Eliot Speaks to Media

During his time on the Big 12 Coaches Teleconference, Kansas State Head Coach Chris Klieman announced that Senior Quarterback Skylar Thompson's season is over.

Thompson was injured in Kansas State's 31-21 victory over Texas Tech on October 3rd, forcing Freshman Will Howard into the starting role.&nbsp;

"Skylar's going to be done for the year," said Klieman. "He had surgery last week on an upper body injury, so unfortunately his season is over with."

Last week, K-State coaches and players were optimistic about Thompson's ability to play against TCU; however, it was later made public that the senior captain did not make the trip to Fort Worth with the team.&nbsp;

"It was difficult, obviously," said Klieman about the emotional toll of the injury. "When you have a senior captain that goes down, but I think he's handled it well. I haven't seen him, but visited with him."

Klieman then went on to acknowledge how his team has seen this type of thing before, and that it can be difficult to see a veteran leader lose their season due to injury.&nbsp;

"That's the worst part of this game," he said. "Those things are so emotional because everybody knows the amount of time and effort that guys put in to have an opportunity to play, and this great game you just know it can be taken away from you at any time."

It's unclear at this time whether Skylar Thompson's career as a Wildcat is over, but the senior does have the possibility of a redshirt available to him should he decide to use it.&nbsp;

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — AJ Parker returned an interception 37 yards for a touchdown and Kansas State improved to 3-0 in the Big 12 with a 21-14 win at TCU. It was the Wildcats' FBS-best 119th non-offensive touchdown since 1999. 

True freshman quarterback Will Howard ran for a score and threw for 117 yards. Howard started in place of senior Skylar Thompson, who didn’t even make the trip to Fort Worth a week after getting injured in the first half against Texas Tech. 

K-State coach Chris Klieman called it a total team win. "Brought a freshman quarterback into a tough environment against a great defensive coach in&nbsp; coach Patterson. I thought Will did a great job and managed the game exceptionally well, and did enough for us to be successful."

Klieman noted that there was a game plan for the Wildcat defense that was executed almost to perfection.

TCU quarterback Max Duggan passed for 154 yards and had a 3-yard touchdown run on a fourth-and-goal in the fourth quarter.

MANHATTAN, Kan.&nbsp;– Kansas State will tip off the 2020-21 men’s basketball season by hosting the inaugural Little Apple Classic on Wednesday and Friday, November 25 and 27 at Bramlage Coliseum with a field that will include former conference foe Colorado and fellow 20-game winners Drake and South Dakota State.

Each team is expected to play two games with Colorado and South Dakota State tipping off the tournament on Wednesday followed by a matchup between K-State and Drake. The teams will flip on the final day with Drake and SDSU competing in the first game on Friday followed by the renewal of the rivalry between the Wildcats and Buffaloes for the first time in nearly a decade.

Ticket information as well as tip times and television broadcast information will be released at a later date.

“We are excited about the opportunity to host these three quality programs for the Little Apple Classic at Bramlage Coliseum to kick off the season,” said head coach&nbsp;Bruce Weber. “All three teams won 20 or more games ago, so it should be a really, competitive environment and a great opportunity for our team to start at home. All three teams won 20 or more games in 2019-20 and return at least one all-conference player in 2020-21 highlighted by reigning Summit League Player of the Year&nbsp;Douglas Wilson&nbsp;(18.6 ppg., 6.4 rpg.) of South Dakota State, All-Pac-12 First Team selection&nbsp;McKinley Wright IV&nbsp;(14.4 ppg., 5.7 rpg., 5.0 apg.) of Colorado and Missouri Valley Conference assist leader&nbsp;Roman Penn&nbsp;(12.0 ppg., 5.6 apg.) of Drake.

South Dakota State captured a share of 2019-20 Summit League regular-season title with a 22-10 overall record, including a 13-3 mark in conference play, under first-year head coach&nbsp;Eric Henderson. Colorado won 21 games a season ago – the seventh 20-win season for the Buffaloes under 11th-year head coach&nbsp;Tad Boyle&nbsp;– which included 10 in Pac-12 play to finish in a tie for fifth place. Drake collected its second consecutive 20-win campaign under current third-year head coach&nbsp;Darian DeVries, which included an 8-10 mark in Missouri Valley play.

With just one senior in&nbsp;Mike McGuirl, the host Wildcats will be one of the youngest teams in the country, but boast the highest-rated recruiting class under Weber and the highest collective class by K-State since recruiting rankings have been kept.&nbsp;Four of the five prep players were rated among the Top 200 players nationally, including three members (Selton Miguel,&nbsp;Nijel Pack&nbsp;and&nbsp;Davion Bradford) of the&nbsp;Rivals150, while junior&nbsp;Rudi Williams&nbsp;and sophomore&nbsp;Carlton Linguard, Jr.&nbsp;were considered two of the top junior college players in the country.

This will mark the first time K-State has hosted a men’s tournament in this format at Bramlage Coliseum. The Wildcats did host Alabama-Huntsville and Lamar for two games in the Midwest Regional of the NIT Season Tip-Off on November 12-13, 2012 in Weber’s first season before heading to the Championship Round in New York City.

K-State will face Drake for the first time in more than six decades and the first time in a season opener since 1952. The Wildcats lead the series, 20-6, including 10-2 at home, but this will be the first meeting since a 90-41 victory over the Bulldogs at Ahearn Field House on December 18, 1956.

K-State and Colorado have met 143 dating back to 1933, including as conference opponents from 1948 until 2011. The Wildcats hold a 96-47 advantage in the all-time series, including a 54-10 mark at home. The Buffaloes swept all three games in their final season in the Big 12 in 2011, including a 74-66 victory in their last visit to Bramlage Coliseum on January 12, 2011 in Boyle’s first season.

This will be the first visits to Bramlage Coliseum by both Drake and South Dakota State.

K-State continues to alter its original non-conference schedule after the NCAA announced on September 16 that it was pushing the season back from its original start date of Tuesday, November 10 to Wednesday, November 25 and reducing the number of games due to the ongoing COV-19 pandemic.

The Little Apple Classic takes the place of the Cayman Islands Classic, which was canceled on September 30.

Coach Klieman opened the press conference by reiterating his pride in the team and how they worked through adversity on Saturday against Texas Tech, a game in which starting quarterback Skylar Thompson was lost due to injury, but the Wildcats were able to rally and defeat the Red Raiders 31-21.

Klieman updated the media on Thompson, who he said did not physically practice on Monday, but took mental repetitions. Klieman remained optimistic that Thompson could play on Saturday at TCU, but that the team would be evaluating him daily.&nbsp;

In Thompson's absence, Freshman Will Howard was thrust into the starting role for Kansas State, completing seven of 12 passes for 173 yards and a touchdown.&nbsp;

Coach Klieman mentioned Howard played well and that he made great adjustments, specifically on the game-clinching touchdown pass to Deuce Vaughn.&nbsp;

On that play, Howard made what Klieman said was a "great read," and made a throw to his fellow freshman running back over the middle, carrying him forward into the open field where Vaughn ran 70 yards to the end zone.&nbsp;

Howard's performance Saturday appeared to give Klieman a hefty amount of confidence that if Skylar Thompson were unable to play in the upcoming matchup with TCU, the freshman would be able to step in and give Kansas State an opportunity to win.

Vaughn totaled 194 scrimmage yards against the Red Raiders, rushing for 113 yards and a touchdown while also hauling in three passes for 81 yards, which included a 70-yard touchdown late in the fourth quarter to put the game away.

A product of Round Rock, Texas, Vaughn became the first Wildcat true freshman with a 100-yard rushing game since Logan Dold did so in 2008 against Texas A&amp;M. His 70-yard reception gave him back-to-back games with a reception of at least 70 yards, the first Wildcat to accomplish that feat in the regular season since Tyler Lockett in 2013 against Oklahoma and TCU.

Chiefs will play the Patriots Monday night

MANHATTAN, Kan.&nbsp;— The theme of the day involved freshmen at Bill Snyder Family Stadium on Saturday, as Kansas State saw a host of young players contribute in massive ways against Texas Tech.

First and foremost, Deuce Vaughn, a true-freshman running back that amassed 113 rushing yards and two total touchdowns on the day. He became the first Wildcat true frosh to rush for over 100 yards since Logan Dold in 2008 in the effort.&nbsp;

Second, Will Howard,&nbsp; freshman quarterback was thrust into the main role after Skylar Thompson was injured in the first half on a late hit.&nbsp; Howard handled the spotlight well, passing for 172 yards and a touchdown while leading Kansas State to a 31-21 win over the Red Raiders.&nbsp;

Postgame, Head Coach Chris Klieman spoke highly of a long list of freshmen, touching all aspects of the game, stating that it speaks volumes about the players and how they can impact the game from day one, "whether it's 25 plays or 75 plays."

Kansas State lead 14-0 at the half, but Texas Tech, who also had to thrust their backup quarterback into a starting role due to injury, came roaring back in the second half to take a 21-17 lead in the 4th quarter.

Kansas State would make the big plays when they mattered most though. Immediately following Texas Tech taking the lead for the first time, Will Howard connected with Briley Moore on a 66-yard connection down the right sideline setting up K-State for a short touchdown run by Harry Trotter.&nbsp;

K-State would then fight as the Red Raiders drew close to the end zone, but a stellar interception in the end zone by Jahron McPherson gave the Wildcats the ball back with a chance to seal the win.

It was then that Will Howard connected with his freshman back Deuce Vaughn for a 70-yard touchdown to put K-State up by 10 with just two minutes to play.&nbsp; From there, the Wildcat defense would slam the door, stopping Texas Tech on fourth down to win the game.

Kansas State's 31-21 win marked their second-consecutive victory, making them 2-1 overall and now 2-0 in Big 12 Conference play. They will head on the road next week for a date with TCU in Fort Worth at 3 p.m..&nbsp;

Immediately following Texas Tech taking the lead for the first time, Will Howard connected with Briley Moore on a 66-yard connection down the right sideline setting up K-State for a short touchdown run by Harry Trotter.&nbsp;K-State would then fight as the Red Raiders drew close to the end zone, but a stellar interception in the end zone by Jahron McPherson gave the Wildcats the ball back with a chance to seal the win.It was then that Will Howard connected with his freshman back Deuce Vaughn for a 70-yard touchdown to put K-State up by 10 with just two minutes to play.&nbsp; From there, the Wildcat defense would slam the door, stopping Texas Tech on fourth down to win the game.Kansas State's 31-21 win marked their second-consecutive victory, making them 2-1 overall and now 2-0 in Big 12 Conference play. Tylan Wallace had nine catches for 148 yards and two touchdowns, and Braylon Johnson had four catches for 74 yards and the other passing TD, as the Cowboys (3-0, 2-0 Big 12) built a 31-0 lead by halftime and never looked back. Kansas (0-3, 0-2) finished with just 193 yards of total offense.

Oklahoma State rolls past Kanssas 

KANSAS CITY (AP) —The NFL postponed this week's game between New England and the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs&nbsp;after ''positive COVID-19 tests on both teams.'' ESPN reported on Saturday that Patriots&nbsp;quarterback Cam Newton&nbsp;was among those testing positive.

The NFL said on Saturday that the game, originally scheduled for 4:25 p.m. EDT on Sunday, will be played on Monday or Tuesday, a move that would be possible only if there is no wider spread of the disease on the rosters.

The Patriots confirmed that a player has tested positive but did not reveal his name. Newton's agent did not immediately respond to a message from The Associated Press seeking confirmation.

The only known Chiefs player to test positive is quarterback Jordan Ta'amu, a member of the practice squad who has not appeared in a game but would have spent time in meetings with Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes and the team's other QBs.

It is the second game this weekend that has been affected by COVID-19. After an outbreak on the Titans, the matchup between Pittsburgh and Tennessee was postponed - originally for a day or two, and then until Oct. 25 as the positive tests accumulated.

To fit it in, the Steelers' game against Baltimore that day was pushed back to Nov. 1.

The Patriots had been planning to fly to Kansas City on Saturday afternoon. Instead, players left the facility to await further instructions. The team said in a statement that the COVID-positive player has entered self-quarantine and that players, coaches and staff who were in close contact with him were tested Saturday morning and all were negative.

Earlier this week, Patriots defensive back Devin McCourty&nbsp;said the league might have grown overconfident after making it through training camps and the first two weeks of the season without a major outbreak.

''But at the end of the day, we are in a pandemic,'' he said. ''So what happened in Tennessee, although it kind of shocks us, it's not really surprising. I think we all knew at some point we might get some positive tests.

''So it's like, 'We got this,''' he said. ''I think this is just a little shocker, but it's also a wakeup call, like 'Hey, the virus is still here and it will affect any and everybody. It doesn't care that we're trying to play football.'''

MANHATTAN, Kan.– For the third me this week, Kansas State senior safety Jahron McPherson earned a naonal honor following his performance last week at No. 3 Oklahoma as he was named the Jim Thorpe Award Player of the Week, the award’s organizaon announced Thursday.

McPherson, who was the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week, was also named the Walter Camp Naonal Defensive Player of the Week and Nagurski Player of the Week aer he totaled 11 tackles – including one for a loss – a forced fumble and an intercepon as the Wildcats earned their first road win over a top-five ranked team in school history with a 38-35 victory.

A nave of Basehor, Kansas, McPherson became the first Wildcat since at least 2002 to post double-digit tackles, a TFL, a forced fumble and an intercepon in the same game. His forced fumble, which was recovered by the Wildcats, led to a touchdown, while his intercepon came with 34 seconds remaining to seal the win.

Executive director Bill Hancock says Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott asked the management committee to consider having eight teams play for the national championship.  The expansion request was made because of disruptions caused by the pandemic. 

Conferences are not playing the same number of games and kicking off their seasons at different times. Playoff leadership decided to stick with four semifinalists, who will square off at the Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl before the title game in Miami on Jan. 11.

Manhattan turned in a team score of 347, two strokes ahead of second place Washburn Rural with a 349.

Emily Yerman of Manhattan finished first in the individual competition with a round of 79. Rhys Phipps of Manhattan finished fifth with an 85, Andi Siebert eighth with a 91 and A. J. Ryan ninth with a round of 92.
