The two sides decided to wait a few weeks for the 2020 season as sports like the NHL and NBA work toward returning after shutting down due to the coronavirus pandemic. The college football season is scheduled to begin with a handful of games on Aug. 29 and a full slate of games the following week.

The league is in talks with The Walt Disney Company on a single-site scenario for a resumption of play in Central Florida in late July. It's the clearest sign yet that the NBA believes the season can continue amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The National Basketball Players Association is also part of the talks with Disney.

Games would be held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, a massive campus on the Disney property near Orlando. NBA spokesman Mike Bass said the conversations were still “exploratory,” and that the site would be used for practices and housing as well.

ESPN is primarily owned by Disney, one of the NBA’s broadcast partners.

Space won’t be an issue, even if Major League Soccer — which is also in talks to resume its season at Disney — is there at the same time as the NBA. The entire Disney complex is roughly 40 square miles, with nearly 24,000 hotel rooms owned or operated by Disney.

NBA talking about a single location for possibly resuming play

They say it would trim expenses in the post-coronavirus era, make the game more fan friendly and reduce the risk of injury to players. Big 12 and Sec to allow football workouts on campus in June

MANHATTAN, Kan.&nbsp;–&nbsp;As various colleges around Kansas State University hold spring commencement exercises virtually on Saturday, among those receiving undergraduate degrees will be 58 current or former Wildcat student-athletes.

Highlighting the 58 graduates on the weekend are: 17 from the track and field squads, 15 from football, nine from the rowing team, five soccer student-athletes, four men’s basketball players, three from baseball and one apiece from men’s golf, volleyball, women’s basketball, women’s golf and tennis.

In addition to the 58 graduates this spring, the Wildcats also saw 21 student-athletes receive their diplomas in December after the fall term. Also, 10 student-athletes earned master’s degrees this spring, while another earned a second undergraduate degree.

K-State student-athletes combined for 162 Academic All-Big 12 citations during the 2019-20 school year, including a program records for football (32, soccer (17) and baseball (13). Headlining the group were a pair of Big 12 Scholar-Athletes of the Year in&nbsp;Adam Holtorf&nbsp;(football) and&nbsp;Peyton Williams&nbsp;(women’s basketball). Both student-athletes, in addition to volleyball’s&nbsp;Brynn Carlson, earned Academic All-America honors.

K-State also had seven student-athletes earn the 10th&nbsp;annual Dr. Gerald Lage Academic Achievement Award, which is the Big 12 Conference's highest academic honor.

Kansas State had a total of 258 K-State student-athletes named to the Fall 2019 Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll, which marked the 24th-straight semester K-State tallied at least 200. Of the 258 K-State student-athletes earning the citation for their academic excellence, 77 registered a GPA of 4.0 in the fall semester.

MANHATTAN, Kan.&nbsp;–&nbsp;Kansas State celebrated another outstanding athletics year – albeit virtually – throughout the week as K-State’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) hosted the 11th&nbsp;annual Mark A. Chapman Powercat Choice Awards on social media.

Award winners were announced daily on K-State’s official social media accounts and celebrated the triumphs of Wildcat student-athletes from the past year both on the field and in the classroom. All the performance-related awards were voted on by members of SAAC.

Top team honor on the men’s side went to the football, which also won the Show-Stopping Moment of the Year with its upset over No. 5 Oklahoma in addition to&nbsp;Chris Klieman&nbsp;winning coach of the year. Freshman wide receiver/kick returner&nbsp;Joshua Youngblood&nbsp;was named the Male Newcomer of the Year, and&nbsp;Adam Holtorf&nbsp;was named the Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Klieman broke the school record for wins by a first-year head coach as the Wildcats went 8-5 under his guidance – including a 5-4 mark in Big 12 play to tie for third – and played in the Liberty Bowl. Youngblood earned four All-America honors as a kick returner in addition to being named the Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Year, the first true freshman in league history to earn the conference’s top honor on either offense, defense or special teams. Holtorf was a First Team Academic All-American and National Football Foundation (NFF) Scholar-Athlete as a finalist for the prestigious Campbell Trophy.

The women’s track and field squad earned the top team honor on the women’s side after finishing third at the Big 12 Indoor Championships for a second-straight season. The squad pulled together 91 points at the conference meet and had multiple athletes qualify for the NCAA Championship.

Baseball and soccer garnered the Wildcat Cup their excellence in the five core areas of student-athlete well-being: academics, athletics, career, personal and service.

Tejaswin Shankar&nbsp;from the men’s track and field team was named the Male Athlete of the Year as he clinched his second Big 12 Indoor High Jump Championship with a mark of 2.23m/7-3.75 and qualified for the NCAA Championships. He also broke the school record in the men’s pentathlon at the Carol Robinson/Attila Zsiovczky Winter Pentathlon with 4,137 points.

Dual-sport athlete&nbsp;Peyton Williams&nbsp;(women’s basketball/volleyball) was named the Female Athlete of the Year as she was a First Team All-Big 12 performer on the hardwood in addition to being named to the watch lists for the Wade Trophy, Women's Citizen Naismith Trophy, John R. Wooden Award and Katrina McClain Award. In volleyball, Williams was a Second Team All-Big 12 performer, and she earned MVP honors at the K-State Invitational and all-tournament team accolades as the MSU Fall Invitational.

Williams was also named the Female Scholar Athlete of the Year after being named the Big 12 Women’s Basketball Scholar Athlete of the Year, a Second Team Academic All-American as a basketball player and a First Team Academic All-Big 12 performer in both basketball and volleyball.

Williams’ basketball teammate,&nbsp;Ayoke Lee, was named the Female Newcomer of the Year as she was named the Big 12 Freshman of the Year and a First Team All-Big 12 performer.

The recipient of the Inspiration Award was&nbsp;Jasauen Beard&nbsp;of the women’s basketball team, while rowing’s&nbsp;Rachel Haskell&nbsp;earned the Purple Pride Award, which is given to the student-athlete who demonstrates the most school spirit.

Chloe Weir&nbsp;(women’s golf) and&nbsp;Reggie Walker&nbsp;(football) were this year's recipients of the Bob and Lila Snell Award of Excellence and Effort, recognizing the outstanding male and female student-athletes who improved their academic standing through sustained effort and commitment to learning.

Andrew Hicks&nbsp;(football) was honored with the Gina Sylvester Memorial Award, which is presented to an arts and sciences student who has progressed toward graduation and used the advising system to overcome challenges.

DJ Render&nbsp;(football) was the recipient of the Veryl and Fern Switzer Campus Leadership Award.&nbsp; The award recognizes a student-athlete who is involved in student organizations and multicultural affairs, demonstrates leadership on a team and on campus, and is active in community service.&nbsp;Luke Hauswirth&nbsp;(baseball) and&nbsp;Mikaela Bennett&nbsp;(rowing) were also honored with the Outstanding Service to the Community awards.

Three student-athletes were awarded the Scholastic Achievement Award, which recognizes a senior letterwinner with the highest cumulative grade-point average in undergraduate work, as&nbsp;Aubrey Gilchrist&nbsp;(rowing,&nbsp;Mckenzie Weber&nbsp;(volleyball) and&nbsp;Ethan Powell&nbsp;(men’s track and field) were honored.

MANHATTAN, Kansas -&nbsp;In an effort to increase convenience and provide fans with more options, K-State Athletics and the Ahearn Fund announced today that it is shifting to digital season tickets, including mobile and print-at-home, beginning with the 2020-21 athletic season.

Moving away from the traditional printed ticket allows for K-State to extend the season-ticket payment deadline to closer to the start of each season during these uncertain times resulting from COVID-19, as well as eliminating shipping delays. 

The football season ticket deadline has been extended to June 1 from the original April 17 deadline. Fans will have the opportunity to choose either print-at-home or mobile during the online seat upgrade process in June. Fans who do not participate will receive print-at-home tickets which can easily be converted to mobile so that they are always easily accessible in a smart phone wallet.

Emmert says the goal is for every team to have an equal amount of preparation time before its season starts, but there could be some competitive inequities caused by schools having varied timelines for re-opening campuses.

The Board of Directors for the Kansas State High School Athletics Association has approved new summer guidelines. effective June 1st. When it is permitted by the community's local health authorities&nbsp; and school district administration, effective June 1st, school employed coaches may begin their summer programs with their prospective student participants.&nbsp;

Basketball coaches may not hold team camp or work with their players between August 3rd and August 16th since that time is dedicated to fall preparations.

Football must complete three calendar weeks of conditioning, with foot ball drills allowed on the second and third weeks as well.

Following the conditioning weeks and through Aug. 3rd coaches may work with their athletes on football related activities, have 7 on 7 competitions, 5 on 5 competitions, a one-week team camp, and continue strength and conditioning.

From Aug. 3rd through the 15th coaches can work with their athletes on football related activities, conduct a one-week team camp and continue strength and conditioning.

One team vs. team camps will be permitted this summer and must be conducted by a third party.

KSHSAA said many students have not had the opportunity to train on a regular basis this spring. A gradual acclimation to physical activity has been shown to lower the risk of injury. If summer is delayed, a team camp right before the start of fall practice would probably be beneficial.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The general manager of the summer collegiate baseball team, Cecil Aska said after a Mid-Plains League conference call the staring date was tentatively moved back from May 27th to June 15th. "But we're going to have another conference call May 12th. By then all of the different teams within their communities should have a better idea of what restrictions may or may not be on there. So we'll finalize things on May 12th but right now we're moving forward with plans to play, effective June 15th." Officials are still talking about playing a full schedule, which means it would run until about Aug. 12th.

Aska explained he is preparing to have a conversation with local health officials so there can be a determination on what needs to be in place to accommodate requirements such as social distancing.

There still have to be preparations with sponsors, getting equipment, preparing the field, and determining what must be done to ensure the safety of the players and fans, including the team's travel to away games.

One area of need is host families. "When we have a better handle what we can do to assure the host families we may need some additional host families. " Players often live with host families during the summer while they play for the Brigade.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Kansas and Missouri are resuming their bitter Border War in football after the former Big 12 rivals agreed to a four-game series in which each school will play two home games beginning in September 2025. The fourth-longest rivalry in college football dates to 1891, but it has been on hiatus since Missouri departed for the Southeastern Conference. 

The schools recently announced a six-game series in men’s basketball beginning with the upcoming season that includes two games on each campus and two in Kansas City, Missouri.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Kansas and Missouri are resuming their bitter Border War in football after the former Big 12 rivals agreed to a four-game series in which each school will play two home games beginning in September 2025. The fourth-longest rivalry in college football dates to 1891, but it has been on hiatus since Missouri departed for the Southeastern Conference. The schools recently announced a six-game series in men’s basketball beginning with the upcoming season that includes two games on each campus and two in Kansas City, Missouri.

The NCAA unveiled a three-phase recommended plan for getting sports up and running on campuses this fall. They all depend on schools having students back on campus.

MANHATTAN, Kan.&nbsp;–<a></a>&nbsp;Daren Koudele, an eight-year member of the K-State Compliance office who has increased his role throughout his time in Manhattan, has been promoted to Senior Associate Athletics Director for Compliance, Athletics Director&nbsp;Gene Taylor&nbsp;announced.

Koudele, who previously served as an Associate AD for Compliance and was the second in command of the office, will now oversee the entire compliance operation for K-State as he replaces Lindsey Babcock, who left earlier this year for Wake Forest.

“Daren has been a major part of our compliance office’s operation for the past eight years, and he has proven that he is ready for this new opportunity,” Taylor said. “He has been instrumental in our department’s stability during this unprecedented time, which has included daily NCAA rules updates and changes. We look forward to him building his team and leading our compliance efforts.”

In addition to leading the compliance staff, Koudele’s new role will also see him develop procedures to ensure institutional control; develop and monitor compliance systems pertaining to recruitment, admission, eligibility, financial aid and housing; oversee and monitor all recruiting activities performed by coaches; ensure compliance with NCAA and Big 12 Conference rules; and establish and oversee procedures for administration of the National Letter of Intent, among other duties.

K-State's Koudele promoted to Senior Associate AD for Compliance

YORK, S.C. (AP) — Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Bashaud Breeland has been arrested in South Carolina for resisting arrest and other offenses.

(AP) — Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Bashaud Breeland has been arrested in South Carolina for resisting arrest and other offenses.Breeland, who is from Charlotte, was arrested in York County, just south of the North Carolina-South Carolina border. Breeland was also charged with driving with an open container of alcohol, possession of marijuana or hash and driving without a license.Breeland had seven tackles and an interception in the Chiefs' 31-20 Super Bowl win over San Francisco two months ago.&nbsp;
