MANHATTAN, Kan.&nbsp;– Kansas State and Nebraska have agreed to delay the start of their highly-anticipated three-game men’s basketball series until the 2021-22 season, the schools announced on Friday afternoon (October 30).

The series was originally slated to begin Saturday, December 19 with a neutral-site matchup at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City. However, that game has been postponed and pushed back until the 2022-23 season.

<a>The rivalry, which dates to 1906, will now begin with a road game for the Wildcats at Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, Nebraska on Sunday, December 19, 2021 and will be followed by a neutral-site game at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City on Saturday, December 17, 2022. The third game of the series will be played at Bramlage Coliseum on a date to be determined during the 2023-24 season.</a>

The two schools, which have played 219 games through five conferences (Missouri Valley, Big Six, Big Seven, Big Eight and Big 12), have a rivalry that started more than 100 years ago with a 50-14 victory by Nebraska on February 19, 1906 and was last played at the Devaney Sports Center on February 23, 2011, a 61-57 Wildcat win.

The Wildcats lead the all-time series, 126-93. The 219 meetings represent the fourth-longest series in school history, following Kansas (293), Missouri (237) and Iowa State (231).

K-State announced its 2020-21 schedule earlier this week which includes 17 games at Bramlage Coliseum beginning with the inaugural Little Apple Classic on Wednesday and Friday, November 25 and 27. The tournament field includes Pac-12 foe Colorado and 20-game winners Drake and South Dakota State.

The Wildcats are scheduled to play Drake in the season opener on November 25 before a matchup with Colorado on November 27. There will also be games between Colorado and SDSU and Drake and SDSU.

Season tickets for the 2020-21 season are currently on sale with a plan for 25 percent capacity inside Bramlage Coliseum with designated reserved seating in a socially distanced configuration. These tickets will be sold in groups of twos and four throughout Sections 1-20 and 25-27 with packages starting at $258.

MANHATTAN, Kan. — Kansas State Men's Basketball Head Coach Bruce Weber and select players spoke to media via Zoom on Wednesday to discuss the start of the 2020-2021 season.&nbsp;

This week, the Wildcats announced their revised schedule. The slate boasts 17 home games as well as the inaugural Little Apple Classic, in which K-State will open the season on November 25th against Drake and then face off with former Big 12 rival Colorado on November 27th.&nbsp;

With the Coronavirus pandemic wreaking havoc on the sports world, scheduling became difficult for many programs, with several still unsure of their start dates.&nbsp;

"It was tough to be honest," said Weber on the scheduling. "Just talking to all the schools and making sure they were in sync with the testing policy."&nbsp;

Weber went on to say how the team was still taking things in stride. "I would expect at least one change, if not more," he said. "Everyday something happens. Teams in different leagues still haven't made decisions on when they're starting, they're adding games in December, or they're having to change things."

The Wildcats are coming of a disappointing 2019-2020 season where they finished 11-21 overall and 3-15 in Big 12 play. Kansas State did however end the season on back-to-back wins, including a 53-49 win over TCU in the first round of the Big 12 Tournament in Kansas City, prior to the sports world coming to an abrupt halt on March 12th.&nbsp;

"It's a motivator," said McGuirl about leaving last year unfinished. "We always knew last year that we had a lot of talent, but last year's in the past, we learned from it, everything happens for a reason. Now, it's just the mindset that it's a new team, new group, and we're just coming every day to work hard and get better."&nbsp;

Coach Weber mentioned that Mike McGuirl had taken on a leadership role, and McGuirl seconded that motion.&nbsp;

"I've been in college for three years, so I've been able to see the good and the bad of college basketball," said McGuirl. "I'm trying to take what I know from the good and really spread it to the rest of the team. I've got the greatest teammates I could ask for. They're really good people, they work hard, they all listen to the coaches, they're all coachable so I'm blessed to have teammates like this."

Dajuan Gordon was one that was also mentioned as a leader for the Wildcats. Heading into his sophomore season, it's clear to see Gordon wants to make an impact, but he says he just wants to follow McGuirl's lead.&nbsp;

"I try to help Mike lead," said Gordon. "I try to just set everything by example by just going hard, playing hard everyday, being a good person and trying to help everybody."&nbsp;

Kansas State has seen a large amount of roster turnover since last season, which Bruce Weber said has admittedly been tough to navigate during the pandemic because the team hasn't been able to do its normal team-building activities to help develop chemistry among the players.&nbsp;

"It's not easy. I think they enjoy each other," said Weber. "I think they all have camaraderie because they all have a purpose, and that's to get to the season and have a good season."

The Wildcats have just under a month to get to that season that has been so much in question over the last several weeks.&nbsp;

K-State will host Drake in the inaugural Little Apple Classic on Wednesday, November 25. The game time is still to be announced.

VAN MALONE, ASSISTANT HEAD COACH

“It’s always good to win a rivalry game. That was great for our kids and our kids in the program and kids from Kansas. Our team played really hard, and like I said, it was a great win. One thing that Coach has stressed – and we have stressed as a staff – is the importance in understanding that every win is a great win. Every week, we need to prepare ourselves to be able to celebrate in the locker room. Pay the price on Sunday and Monday and throughout the week and continue to stack the days. I feel like offensively, defensively and on special teams we continue to get better week after week. In the Big 12, we’re going to have to keep doing that. We’re playing a lot of young guys defensively and offensively. As you put more young guys out on the field, they have a chance to make mistakes. But the great thing is that we’re not seeing as many mistakes as we had in week one. That’s refreshing as a staff, so we’re going to have to continue this progression. This week will be important because we’ll face a tough opponent at (their) home. Those guys have played extremely hard throughout the season. They’ve lost some close games. They’re playing some young guys as well. It will be a big challenge for us as we roll into this week.”

On the big plays made by the defense...

“Coaches always say you get what you emphasize. We’ve talked about attacking the ball in the air. We’ve talked about creating turnovers throughout the season, and that’s something that, since we’ve been here, it’s something as a staff that we’ve continued to stress and emphasize. So, it’s good to see when guys go get the football, but the ability to get it into the end zone is another step. It’s exciting to see defensive backs like AJ (Parker) and Justin (Gardner) and those guys have the opportunity to score with the football because that’s something on defense that we stress. It’s our position and our job to get the ball back to the offense and to put it in scoring position as best as we can. Not a lot of defensive guys have that ability, so we’re excited when we have the opportunity to put it in the end zone as defensive backs.”&nbsp;

On the emphasis put on special teams...

“Each one of our coaches has an assignment on special teams, and everyone is involved. I think the players see that and recognize it. With special teams, you have one chance to be special. We have some units out there, specifically the punt return unit, and make big plays for our team. As we go through the season, seeing that these games are going to continue to be close, we feel like that’s our edge is us making plays on special teams to give our team an opportunity to win.”

On West Virginia starting quarterback Jarret Doege against K-State last year...

“Him coming into the game last year was a difference. The thing that’s really impressive about him is he’s a competitive kid as you watch him. Into this season, he’s definitely improved and that is the thing that makes them go. He has a pretty good arm. He’s active with his feet and doesn’t get sacked much. He’ll be a challenge for us, but speaking to last year, it did throw us a little bit. At this point, from what we’ve seen so far, he’ll be an extreme challenge for us.”

On what stands out about West Virginia’s offense...

“They have really good offensive linemen. They play together well as a group. The running backs, both guys that play a lot right now, are powerful and strong runners. They have good speed. You’ve seen them have a few breakaway runs. We’ll have to do a good job of wrapping up and tackling those guys well. The receiving corps will probably be amongst the best we’ll play, but you say that week after week in the Big 12. They have guys who are explosive. They use them in different places on the field, but when they get the ball in their hands, you have to do a good job of defending the perimeter well as well as vertically defending them because they have the ability to stretch the field. From the skill position standpoint, it will be a challenge for us. Defensively, those are the things we’ll continue to harp on to our players as we go throughout the week.”

K-State football holds a weekly press conference

MANHATTAN, Kan.&nbsp;– Seventeen home games at Bramlage Coliseum, including the inaugural Little Apple Classic that will tip off the season on November 25 and 27, highlight the 2020-21 Kansas State men’s basketball schedule released by athletic department officials this afternoon. (October 26).

Season tickets as well as gameday procedures for the 2020-21 season will be released in the coming days.

“We are excited to finally be able to release our 2020-21 schedule,” said head coach&nbsp;Bruce Weber. “This has been a huge undertaking by (Director of Operations)&nbsp;Drew Speraw&nbsp;and (Executive Associate AD)&nbsp;Casey Scott, as well as (associate commissioner)&nbsp;Jeff Jackson&nbsp;at the Big 12 office and I appreciate their efforts to get this done under incredibly difficult circumstances. “We feel this is a competitive, non-conference schedule especially for such a new, young team,” said Weber. “Colorado would’ve been an NCAA team a year ago and return one of the top point guards (McKinley Wright IV) in the nation, while Drake, UNLV and Texas A&amp;M were all playing some of their best basketball when COV-19 hit.

“We have veterans like Mike (McGuirl), DaJuan (Gordon), Monty (Murphy) and Antonio (Gordon) who have been in big games, but now have to adjust to being in new roles, while we have several newcomers who will have to take a step up to an entirely new level of competition. This will allow for them to develop and gain experience before Big 12 play.”

The 25th&nbsp;season of Big 12 men’s basketball will have a new wrinkle this season with a pair of conference games in the month of December, as K-State will open at Iowa State on Tuesday, December 15 before hosting Final Four contender Baylor on Saturday, December 19. The Wildcats have faced the Cyclones in an opener more than any other foe (16 times), as the teams will play in the earliest conference opener in school history.

After a break to finish off non-conference play, K-State will resume Big 12 play with a home game against TCU on Saturday, January 2. It will be the first four home games in the first half of league play, including Oklahoma State (Tuesday, January 9), Iowa State (Wednesday, January 13) and West Virginia (Saturday, January 23).

Following the home game with Texas A&amp;M on January 30, the Wildcats will open the second half with a road game at rival Kansas on Tuesday, February 2, which will be the first of two meetings in a two-week span. Home games in the second half include consecutive games with Texas Tech (Saturday, February 6) and Texas (Tuesday, February 9) to go along with Kansas (Tuesday, February 16) and Oklahoma (Tuesday, February 23).

“The Big 12 will once again be one of the best – if not the best – conference in the country,” said Weber. “Every team has a legitimate shot at the NCAA Tournament and beyond. I expect nothing but the same hard-fought, competitive environments that we have seen every year game-in and game-out.”

The last week of the regular season has been left open to accommodate any postponed games, as the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship is scheduled for Wednesday-Saturday, March 10-13 at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City.

Game times and television designations will be released as they become official.

The Wildcats will be one of the youngest teams in the country in 2020-21 with just one senior (Mike McGuirl) and the addition of eight newcomers. McGuirl saw action in 29 games with 20 starts, averaging 6.9 points on 42.3 percent shooting and 2.4 rebounds in 24.7 minutes per game. K-State unveils men's basketball schedule

MANHATTAN, Kansas –&nbsp;Kansas State women's basketball has announced its complete schedule for the 2020-21 season on Monday. The Wildcats' non-conference slate features seven total games including six home games and a road game in mid-December. The start date of the schedule is the latest since the 1994-95 season. K-State will open its 18-game Big 12 schedule on Friday, December 18, as the Wildcats travel to Ames, Iowa, to face Iowa State. This is the earliest start to a league season for K-State in program history. The Wildcats will host a five-game home stand to begin its regular season non-conference schedule. The home stretch starts on Sunday, November 29, against Southern. This is K-State's first home-opener against a team from the SWAC since the 2010-11 season. Southern finished the 2019-20 season with a 16-14 overall record and were 13-5 in the SWAC for a third-place regular season finish. K-State has won the only two meetings in the series, including a 59-47 win over the Jaguars on November 25, 2015, in Manhattan. K-State continues the home stand on Thursday, December 3, as the Wildcats host Kentucky as part of the 2020 SEC/Big 12 Challenge. This will be the first meeting in the series between the two schools. Kentucky completed the 2019-20 season with a 22-8 overall record and a 10-6 mark in the SEC. The Wildcats of the SEC are led on the floor by 2020 All-American selection Rhyne Howard, who averaged 23.4 points per game last season. The third game of the home stand will be on Sunday, December 6, at 12 p.m., as the Wildcats host UT Arlington. The Mavericks tallied a 21-11 overall record and a 14-4 mark and a third-place finish in the Sun Belt Conference. K-State leads the all-time series, 5-1, with the Mavericks capturing a 57-53 decision last season. UT Arlington will be led by first-year head coach Shereka Wright. The fourth game of the home stretch will be a midweek afternoon special, as the Wildcats host Idaho State on Tuesday, December 8, at 1 p.m. This will be the third meeting between the schools and the first since November 9, 2012, when K-State downed the Bengals with a 62-54 decision. Idaho State ended the 2019-20 season with an overall record of 18-13 and a 13-7 mark and third place finish in the Big Sky Conference. K-State will conclude its non-conference schedule with three straight games against Summit League opponents. The Wildcats cap its home stand on Thursday, December 10, against South Dakota State, at 6:30 p.m. The Wildcats lead the series with the Jackrabbits, 5-0, and last faced South Dakota State on December 10, 2011, in Brookings, South Dakota, and pocketed a 63-46 victory. South Dakota State finished the 2019-20 season with a 23-10 overall record and a 13-3 mark and in second-place in the Summit League. The Wildcats will then make its only road trip during its non-conference slate, as they travel to Omaha, Nebraska, to face Omaha on Saturday, December 12, at 2 p.m. K-State is 6-0 in the series against Omaha, including a 73-48 win in the 2019-20 season-opener. Omaha finished the 2019-20 season with an overall record of 7-23 and will be guided by first-year head coach Carrie Banks. The Wildcats will end its 2020-21 non-conference regular season schedule in Bramlage, as K-State will host Kansas City on Monday, December 14, at 6:30 p.m. This will be the third meeting in the series since former K-State assistant coach&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/staff.aspx?staff=180">Jacie Hoyt</a>&nbsp;became the head coach of the Kangaroos and former All-Big 12 selection Kindred Wesemann became an assistant coach with the program. Kansas State won the 2019 meeting between the schools, 74-67, on December 14, in Kansas City. K-State owns a 10-3 lead in the series. Kansas City finished the third season under Hoyt's direction with a 21-10 overall record, including a 13-3 mark and the 2019-20 regular season title in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC). The 2020-21 season will mark Kansas City's return to the Summit League after playing in the WAC for the last seven seasons. The Wildcats and Cyclones will meet in K-State's league opener for the fourth time in the last six years, as the teams opened the 2014-15 and 2018-19 Big 12 seasons in Ames and the 2015-16 season in Manhattan. This is the third earliest meeting in the series between the schools and the earliest since Nov. 27, 1980, in a game played in Manhattan. Before a break for the holidays, K-State will host Texas on Monday, December 21. This will be the earliest meeting in the series between the schools as members of the Big 12 Conference and the earliest since a game between the programs on December 15, 1984, in Austin, Texas. Following the holidays, K-State will travel to Norman, Oklahoma, to face Oklahoma on Saturday, January 2. After facing the Sooners, K-State returns to Bramlage Coliseum to begin a stretch of three home games in the next four contests. The Wildcats will face West Virginia on Tuesday, January 5, then make a trip to Waco, Texas, to face Baylor on Sunday, January 10. After the road trip, K-State hosts TCU on Thursday, January 14 and Oklahoma State on Sunday, January 17. K-State will play consecutive road games for the first time in 2021 on Wednesday, January 20, and Saturday, January 23, as the Wildcats visit West Virginia and Kansas, respectively. The Wildcats end the month of January with its second two-game home stand, as K-State hosts Iowa State on Wednesday, January 27, and Oklahoma on Sunday, January 31. To begin the month of February, K-State faces Texas Tech for the first time in 2021 with the matchup in Lubbock, Texas, on Wednesday, February 3. K-State returns to Bramlage Coliseum on Sunday, February 7, to host Baylor. The Wildcats will then play three of its next four games on the road, starting the stretch at TCU on Wednesday, February 10. MANHATTAN, Kansas –&nbsp;Kansas State women's basketball has announced its complete schedule for the 2020-21 season on Monday. The Wildcats' non-conference slate features seven total games including six home games and a road game in mid-December. The start date of the schedule is the latest since the 1994-95 season. K-State will open its 18-game Big 12 schedule on Friday, December 18, as the Wildcats travel to Ames, Iowa, to face Iowa State. This is the earliest start to a league season for K-State in program history. The Wildcats will host a five-game home stand to begin its regular season non-conference schedule. The home stretch starts on Sunday, November 29, against Southern. This is K-State's first home-opener against a team from the SWAC since the 2010-11 season. Southern finished the 2019-20 season with a 16-14 overall record and were 13-5 in the SWAC for a third-place regular season finish. K-State has won the only two meetings in the series, including a 59-47 win over the Jaguars on November 25, 2015, in Manhattan. K-State continues the home stand on Thursday, December 3, as the Wildcats host Kentucky as part of the 2020 SEC/Big 12 Challenge. This will be the first meeting in the series between the two schools. Kentucky completed the 2019-20 season with a 22-8 overall record and a 10-6 mark in the SEC. The Wildcats of the SEC are led on the floor by 2020 All-American selection Rhyne Howard, who averaged 23.4 points per game last season. The third game of the home stand will be on Sunday, December 6, at 12 p.m., as the Wildcats host UT Arlington. The Mavericks tallied a 21-11 overall record and a 14-4 mark and a third-place finish in the Sun Belt Conference. K-State leads the all-time series, 5-1, with the Mavericks capturing a 57-53 decision last season. UT Arlington will be led by first-year head coach Shereka Wright. The fourth game of the home stretch will be a midweek afternoon special, as the Wildcats host Idaho State on Tuesday, December 8, at 1 p.m. This will be the third meeting between the schools and the first since November 9, 2012, when K-State downed the Bengals with a 62-54 decision. Idaho State ended the 2019-20 season with an overall record of 18-13 and a 13-7 mark and third place finish in the Big Sky Conference. K-State will conclude its non-conference schedule with three straight games against Summit League opponents. The Wildcats cap its home stand on Thursday, December 10, against South Dakota State, at 6:30 p.m. The Wildcats lead the series with the Jackrabbits, 5-0, and last faced South Dakota State on December 10, 2011, in Brookings, South Dakota, and pocketed a 63-46 victory. South Dakota State finished the 2019-20 season with a 23-10 overall record and a 13-3 mark and in second-place in the Summit League. The Wildcats will then make its only road trip during its non-conference slate, as they travel to Omaha, Nebraska, to face Omaha on Saturday, December 12, at 2 p.m. K-State is 6-0 in the series against Omaha, including a 73-48 win in the 2019-20 season-opener. Omaha finished the 2019-20 season with an overall record of 7-23 and will be guided by first-year head coach Carrie Banks. The Wildcats will end its 2020-21 non-conference regular season schedule in Bramlage, as K-State will host Kansas City on Monday, December 14, at 6:30 p.m. This will be the third meeting in the series since former K-State assistant coach&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/staff.aspx?staff=180">Jacie Hoyt</a>&nbsp;became the head coach of the Kangaroos and former All-Big 12 selection Kindred Wesemann became an assistant coach with the program. Kansas State won the 2019 meeting between the schools, 74-67, on December 14, in Kansas City. K-State owns a 10-3 lead in the series. Kansas City finished the third season under Hoyt's direction with a 21-10 overall record, including a 13-3 mark and the 2019-20 regular season title in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC). The 2020-21 season will mark Kansas City's return to the Summit League after playing in the WAC for the last seven seasons. The Wildcats and Cyclones will meet in K-State's league opener for the fourth time in the last six years, as the teams opened the 2014-15 and 2018-19 Big 12 seasons in Ames and the 2015-16 season in Manhattan. This is the third earliest meeting in the series between the schools and the earliest since Nov. 27, 1980, in a game played in Manhattan. Before a break for the holidays, K-State will host Texas on Monday, December 21. This will be the earliest meeting in the series between the schools as members of the Big 12 Conference and the earliest since a game between the programs on December 15, 1984, in Austin, Texas. Following the holidays, K-State will travel to Norman, Oklahoma, to face Oklahoma on Saturday, January 2. After facing the Sooners, K-State returns to Bramlage Coliseum to begin a stretch of three home games in the next four contests. The Wildcats will face West Virginia on Tuesday, January 5, then make a trip to Waco, Texas, to face Baylor on Sunday, January 10. After the road trip, K-State hosts TCU on Thursday, January 14 and Oklahoma State on Sunday, January 17. K-State will play consecutive road games for the first time in 2021 on Wednesday, January 20, and Saturday, January 23, as the Wildcats visit West Virginia and Kansas, respectively. The Wildcats end the month of January with its second two-game home stand, as K-State hosts Iowa State on Wednesday, January 27, and Oklahoma on Sunday, January 31. To begin the month of February, K-State faces Texas Tech for the first time in 2021 with the matchup in Lubbock, Texas, on Wednesday, February 3. K-State returns to Bramlage Coliseum on Sunday, February 7, to host Baylor. The Wildcats will then play three of its next four games on the road, starting the stretch at TCU on Wednesday, February 10. K-State then hosts Kansas for the Sunflower Showdown on Saturday, February 13. Kansas State returns to the road for consecutive games on Wednesday, February 17, at Oklahoma State and Sunday, February 21, at Texas. To cap the schedule, K-State hosts Texas Tech on Wednesday, February 24. Due to possible rescheduling of postponed games, the Big 12 has left three dates open at the end of the schedules for eight of the 10 teams – Saturday, February, 27, Wednesday, March 3, and Saturday, March 6. K-State Announces 2020-21 Women’s Basketball Schedule

MANHATTAN, Kan.&nbsp;–<a>&nbsp;Following a record-setting performance in the Sunflower Showdown, Kansas State sophomore&nbsp;Phillip Brooks&nbsp;has been named the Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.</a>

Brooks’ weekly honor is the seventh for the Wildcats this season, which are the most since the 2017 team had eight.

A product of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Brooks returned four punts for a school-record 189 yards with two touchdowns against Kansas, the most punt-return touchdowns in school history. Brooks’ yardage record edged out David Allen’s mark of 172 against Texas in 1998. His single-game yardage total ranks third in Big 12 history and was the most by a Big 12 player since 2009. Additionally, his 47.25-yard average was the highest nationally since 1996 among players with four or more returns.

Brooks became the first player in the nation with two punt-return touchdowns in a single game since Greg Dortch of Wake Forest in 2018, while he is the first Big 12 ever player to do so in a conference game.

DENVER (AP) — The Kansas City Chiefs didn't need quarterback Patrick Mahomes' usual heroics to beat the Denver Broncos for the 10th consecutive time Sunday. Mahomes threw for just 200 yards and a touchdown in the Chiefs' 43-16 win on a snowy, freezing day in Denver.

ICYMI: Klieman, Players Spoke to Media Prior to Sunflower Showdown

MANHATTAN, Kan.&nbsp;– A meeting between Kansas State and Texas A&amp;M at Bramlage Coliseum is one of 10 games scheduled between the Big 12 and SEC on Saturday, January 30, 2021, as ESPN and the two conferences announced the eighth annual SEC/Big 12 Challenge on Wednesday morning (October 21).

ESPN will provide coverage of all games on ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU with start times and complete television information to be released later.

“The Challenge series continues to be a great success for both the Big 12 and SEC,” said head coach&nbsp;Bruce Weber.

“It has also become one of the most competitive in the country with the conferences tying for the second time in the last four years in 2020. Texas A&amp;M is another great addition to our schedule and we know that any Buzz Williams-coached team will be difficult opponent to play.”

The two leagues tied for the second time in 2020 with five wins each. The Big 12, which led the nation in non-conference strength of schedule and was second in the NET ranking and overall strength of schedule in 2019-20,

has won four of the seven Challenge series (2014, 2015, 2016, 2019), posting a 40-30 (.571) overall record.

K-State is 3-4 all-time in the Challenge series with all three wins coming at home (Ole Miss in 2013 and 2016 and Georgia in 2018). This will be second meeting with Texas A&amp;M in the Challenge series and the first time since the Aggies posted a 65-53 win at Reed Arena in College Station in the latest meeting on January 26, 2019.

Overall, K-State leads the series, 18-9, including 11-0 at home venues. This will be the eighth non-conference meeting (1960, 1967, 1990, 1993, 2014, 2015, 2019) and the fourth since Texas A&amp;M departed the Big 12 for the SEC in 2012-13. The teams split a home-and-home series in 2014 (K-State, 71-64, in Kansas City) and 2015 (Texas A&amp;M, 78-68, in College Station) before the last meeting in the Challenge series in 2019.

The former league partners met at least once a year from 1997 until 2012 with the Wildcats holding a 13-7 advantage, including an 8-0 mark at Bramlage Coliseum.

Led by second-year head coach and 2020 AP SEC Coach of the Year&nbsp;Buzz Williams, the Aggies return three starters (Savion Flagg,&nbsp;Andre Gordon&nbsp;and&nbsp;Emanuel Miller) from a team that rebounded from a tough start to post a school-record 10 SEC wins en route to a 16-14 overall record in the shortened 2019-20 season. The Aggies were just 6-6 in non-conference play but rallied for a tie for sixth place in SEC play with a 10-8 mark, which included five wins in their last seven outings.

A rising senior, Flagg was second on the team in scoring a year ago, averaging 10.4 points on 41 percent shooting, including 37 from 3-point range, to go with 5.1 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game in starting 29 of 30 games. Miller led the Aggies with 6.3 rebounds per game (and 6.4 points) in 25 starts as a true freshman, while fellow rookie Gordon added 6.3 points and 2.1 rebounds averages in 18 starts.

This will be the second scheduled meeting with a former conference rival in 2020-21, as the Wildcats are set to play Colorado on Friday, November 27 in the Little Apple Classic at Bramlage Coliseum.

K-State to Host Texas A&M in SEC/Big 12 Challenge

When asked his thoughts on the game, Klieman emphasized that despite the series being lopsided of late, the magnitude of the game was unchanged.

"I think it's a big rivalry. Obviously, I've only been here for one year, but for the state of Kansas, it's a big deal," said Klieman. "So many of our guys know a lot of players on their team, and absolutely any time that you have teams from the same state going against each other... I think it's a big deal."&nbsp;

Kansas has the edge in the all-time series between the two schools 64-48-5, but Kansas State has won 11-consecutive matchups, and 24 of the last 29 dating back to 1991.&nbsp;

"Our kids, and our alums, and our fanbase and community, and the state, this is a big game, so our guys are excited for the opportunity," Klieman added.&nbsp;

Last season, Kansas state throttled the Jayhawks in Lawrence 38-10 in front of a near sellout crowd at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium, but this year, fan attendance will be limited; however, Jahron McPherson says the lack of fans won't impact the team's play.

"In all honesty, I think me and my teammates, when we're out there we don't even recognize the crowd," said the Basehor, Kansas native. "It's just blocked out because we're so tuned in on the goal at hand, and that's to try to win."&nbsp;

McPherson, as well as the other three Wildcat athletes who spoke to the media all seemed to share one thought on Kansas, and it's that they were overlooked in recruiting by the Jayhawks and that it provided a chip on their shoulder, or motivation heading into the contest.&nbsp;

"You know, growing up in Topeka and only being 30 minutes away from the university, was kind of just a respect thing," said Defensive End Wyatt Hubert. "Kansas State came out and offered me first, and had that trust and belief in me, and kind of KU really not having that, was kind of a disappointment a little bit."&nbsp;

Hubert earned First Team All-Big 12 honors at defensive end in 2019, totaling seven sacks from his position on the line.&nbsp;

The shared sentiment among the players of being overlooked by Kansas surely weighs into their motivation on Saturday, but there was also a shared attitude of "taking this game like it's any other game," cementing K-State's weekly focus on the opponent at hand.&nbsp;

This week, the Wildcats will look to hold on to the Governor's Cup for a 12th-consecutive season, which would set a record for most consecutive wins in the rivalry.

Kansas State enters at 3-1 overall and 3-0 in Big 12 play, while their in-state rival Kansas is coming off a road loss to West Virginia, in which they lead 10-0 to begin the game before falling 38-17. The Jayhawks are 0-4 on the year and 0-3 in league play.

Monday night's game was originally scheduled for last Thursday. Mahomes finished 21 of 26 for 225 yards. His first scoring toss to Kelce was the 90th of his career in his 37th game, breaking the NFL record for fewest games to 90 TD passes.
