Claryce Darlene (Punky) Anderson, 88, of Clay Center, passed away on June 15, 2024.

Claryce was born on October 19, 1935, in Leonardville, to Elizabeth (Wagenrodt) and Laurence Webber. She graduated from Leonardville High School and worked at The Manhattan Mercury.

She married Alvin Anderson on July 21, 1956, and they had 10 children.&nbsp;

She was an avid homemaker and besides raising 10 kids she raised a huge garden and canned produce to feed their large family, raised hundreds of chickens for butchering and eggs. She was an exceptional baker making the best coconut cream pies, homemade cinnamon rolls, and homemade bread. Claryce was a great seamstress and besides sewing many clothes she loved to do sewing crafts to take to craft shows. She was a huge KU fan and absolutely did not like purple!

Besides playing, coaching, watching and umpiring men’s, women’s and youth fast pitch, Claryce was an accomplished bowler. Claryce and Alvin umpired fast pitch softball together for several years. She and Alvin spent many, many days and weekends at wrestling matches for their sons and grandsons. They also both enjoyed traveling (to Korea), car trips and several bus trips.

She is survived by her husband Alvin; her children, Kim (Ed) Smith of Derby, Dawn (Scot) Richter of Green, Jay (Lori) Anderson and Laurence Anderson of Clay Center, Johnny (Jan) Anderson of Chapman, Todd Anderson of Clay Center, Jina McLaughlin of Colona, IL, Terry (Nomie) Anderson of Junction City and Troy (DeeDee) Anderson of Clay Center; her sister, Creta Ghrer of San Diego; sister-in-laws Rose Webber of Topeka and Linda Webber of Riley. Her legacy lives on in her 24 Grandchildren, 33 Great-Grandchildren and 2 Great-Great-Grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her infant daughter, Jacalyn Anderson; grandson, Nickolaus Anderson; parents, Elizabeth and Laurence Webber; brothers, Kenneth Webber and Johnny Webber; brother-in-law Grady Ghrer; and son-in-law Dale McLaughlin.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 20, 2024, at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home with Pastor Kevin Larson officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Clay Center.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established with the Green Community Christian Center. &nbsp;Contributions may be left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.

Claryce Darlene (Punky) Anderson

Harvey Dean Lantz, 84, of Abilene, KS, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2024, at Manhattan Ascension Via Christi. 

Harvey was born on March 22, 1940, in Talmage, KS, the son of Ira V. and Florence Mae (Hosteller) Lantz. He spent most of his life in the Abilene area and graduated from Dickinson County Community High School in 1958. On August 10, 1970, he married the love of his life, Karen Paulette Parker, in Haskell, Texas. Harvey was the beloved husband of the late Karen and the father of four sons: Michael (deceased), Kevin of Oberlin, KS, Doug (Marci) of Osborne, KS, and Brian (Karen) of Solomon, KS. Harvey was a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren: Danielle, Colton, Tyler, Dayton, Dawson, Braedyn, and Karter. He is also survived by his siblings Roy, Ivan, and Dorothy, and was preceded in death by his brothers Kenny and Jim.

Harvey had a diverse career that began in farming before he transitioned to a successful career in construction. In his spare time, Harvey passionately pursued woodworking, where he became locally renowned for his meticulously crafted dog houses and shelves. Known for his generosity, Harvey often created these projects as gifts for friends and family, leaving a lasting impression on the community with his craftsmanship and kindness.

 Harvey cherished his time spent with family and friends. He enjoyed going to casinos to play slots and frequently traveled to indulge in his love for bingo. He was also a regular at the local coffee shop, where he enjoyed many mornings drinking coffee and chatting with his friends. Later in life, he found great joy in watching his grandchildren pursue their passions, from playing sports to tinkering on vehicles. Harvey had a special place in his heart for family gatherings and was known for his saying, "I only like two types of pie - hot and cold."

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 18, from 5:00– 7:00 p.m. at Danner Funeral Home in Abilene, Kansas. A funeral service will be held at the same location on Wednesday, June 19, at 10 a.m. with Pastor Jason Kohler officiating.

Harvey will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. His legacy of hard work, craftsmanship, and love for his family will live on in the hearts of those he touched.Harvey’s final resting place will be in the Cheever (Henry) Cemetery north of Abilene. Kenneth Henry “Kenny” Evers, age 63, of Manhattan, died two days before his 64th birthday on June 12th, at Stoneybrook Retirement Community in Manhattan.

He was born June 14, 1960, in Manhattan, the son of Floyd Henry and Mary Martha (Lewis) Evers.

Kenny worked for 18 years at the Kansas State Student Union and then was a well driller and tester for Associated Environmental and travelled the state with his beloved dog Odie.

He loved all animals and enjoyed fishing and being outdoors.

Kenny is survived by his two sisters: Patty Burnett of DeSoto, KS, and Rosie Murphy (Jim) of Manhattan; and numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother Larry in 1989.

Private family inurnment will be in the Sunrise Cemetery in Manhattan. A Celebration of Kenny’s Life will be held on Friday, August 2, 2024 from 4:00-7:00 p.m.&nbsp; at RC McGraw’s Blue Hills Room in Manhattan.

Nyla Jean Mathies was born in Paxico, Kansas July 4, 1931 she went to Heaven on June 4, 2024 to be with God and her family.

 Born to Fred and Ella [Martens] Mathies. She was Baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in McFarland KS. She worked at Palace Drug in Aggieville, Aggie Hardware. She Retired from Kansas State University in 2003 after 20 years of service.

 She is survived by 1 son Daniel and his wife Kay, 3 grandchildren Shawn, Shelby, Candice 7 great grandchildren. She was proceeded in death by 7 sisters, 3 brothers and 1 grandson Colby Scott Mathies in 2015.&nbsp; She loved to read and sew.

 Services will be held at the McFarland cemetery Saturday June 22 at 10:00 am. Pastor Micheal Schmidt presiding.

Christopher Alan Thomas transitioned from this world on June 14, 2024, in Clay Center, Kansas.&nbsp;

Chris was born on October 12, 1976, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Richard Alan and Bette Jane (Belt) Thomas.&nbsp;

His unwavering service defined Chris's journey. He bravely served in the US Marines for four honorable years before pursuing a career at Nelson's Hatchery. His commitment to duty and his country was truly admirable.

Chris was a well-liked figure in his community with an ornery yet endearing personality. His passion for music, Chiefs football, Royals baseball, and darts brought joy and camaraderie to those around him. Whether cheering for his favorite teams or engaging in a lively game of darts, Chris’s enthusiasm was contagious.

During his time on earth, Chris touched the lives of many. He is survived by his father Richard Thomas, daughters, Cantrell Thomas and Brianna Thomas, sisters Kimberly Wolcott and Angel Burnett, brother, Beith Blaske, significant other Michelle Kopfer, "brother from another mother" Shane Bliss, and his nephew Zack (Autum) Bliss. In addition to these loved ones, numerous extended family members grieve the absence of Chris in their lives.

Chris was preceded in death by his mother, Bette Jane Thomas.

A visitation to honor Chris's memory will occur on Friday, June 21, 2024, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Campanella &amp; Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego, Kansas. The funeral service will follow on Saturday, June 22nd at 10:30 a.m. at the same location. A graveside service with military honors will be held in the Wamego City Cemetery.

Gary M Niehaus Sr., age 80, of Manhattan, died June 10, 2024, in Manhattan.

Gary M. Niehaus Sr. was born on October 21, 1943, to Frank and Patricia Niehaus in Bloomington, Illinois. He spent his youth in Illinois and Michigan, playing football in high school.

Gary joined the army as a young adult and served for 20 years. He did one tour in Vietnam and spent most of his time serving in Germany.

Gary was regularly active with the Riley County Flyers.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Christina.

Gary is survived by his wife Monika, his son Gary Jr. (Barbara), his daughter Regina, and grandson Kevin (Emily).

The family will greet friends during a visitation from 2:00 until 4:00p.m. Saturday June 15, 2024, at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home.

Private interment will be at the Sunrise Cemetery in Manhattan.

Gary M Niehaus Sr.

Dirk Louis Riniker, 67, of Wamego, Kansas, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 9, 2024 while surrounded by his family at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan, Kansas. &nbsp;As the eldest child of Daney and Betty (Colson) Riniker, he was born on June 23, 1956, in Ottawa, Kansas. They later moved to Louisville, Kansas. He attended schools in Louisville and Wamego; and graduated from Wamego High School in 1974.

On August 10, 1979 Dirk was united in marriage to Rebecca “Becky” Ebert at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Wamego, Kansas. The two of them enjoyed nearly 45 years of marriage which included raising their three adored children, Derek Riniker of Wamego, Kansas, Amanda Riniker of Manhattan, Kansas and Dylan Riniker (Victoria Pettay) of Manhattan, Kansas.

Along with his wife and children, Dirk is also survived by his mother Betty Riniker of Louisville, Kansas and his twin brothers, Dan Riniker (Julie) of Wamego, Kansas and Daney Riniker of Westmoreland, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his father, Daney Riniker in 2010 and his nephew, Jayson Ebert, in 2021.

Other survivors include his father-in-law, James Ebert (Dorothy Winterman) of Wamego, Kansas; his mother-in-law, Alice Marten (Bob) of St. George, Kansas; sisters-in-law, Denise Carlston of Manassas, Virginia, Rhonda Trudo (Ron) of Manhattan, Kansas, and Lisa Diederich (Tim) of Wamego, Kansas; and a brother-in-law, James Ebert II (Jenni) of Wamego, Kansas, and many nieces and nephews.

Dirk inherited a strong work ethic from his parents at a young age. His first job was at the age of 11, delivering the daily Topeka Capital Journal newspaper to Louisville residents. During and after high school, he worked as a farmhand, first for Buddy Habluetzel and then for Arlo Stockebrand. He later began working as a heavy construction equipment operator for companies including Bayer Construction, Manhattan, Kansas, Midwest Construction, Kansas City, Missouri, and Ebert Construction, Wamego, Kansas. Most of his years were spent with Ebert Construction where he was a natural leader who worked his way up to serving as President and CEO, and was a stockholder with his wife Becky, until his retirement.

During his career, he served in many leadership roles in the local community as well as in the construction industry at large. Locally, he served on the City of Wamego Infrastructure Planning Committee and as a director for the Pottawatomie County Economic Development Corporation, both for several years. In the construction industry, he served in many capacities for the Kansas Land Improvement Contractors of America, including as President in 2004 and was named the 2005 Contractor of the Year. For the National Land Improvement Contractors of America, he served as President from 2010 - 2011 and then as a regional director for many years. Dirk also served on the board of directors of the Kansas Contractors Association (KCA) from 2014 - 2019 and was a past chairman of the KCA Grading and Railroad Division. He developed many lifelong friendships with others in the industry, including competitors with whom he shared a mutual respect, regardless of who won a bid.

Work was Dirk’s life and hobby, but other things he loved and enjoyed were time with his family and good friends; fishing and motorcycle trips with buddies; and cross-country road trips with Becky and their friends discovering whatever they might find along the way including “hole in the wall” restaurants and bars, many of which turned out to be hidden gems.

He will lie in-state beginning at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, June 17, 2024 at Campanella &amp; Stewart Funeral Home, followed by a visitation where family will greet friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Wamego. &nbsp;Burial will follow in the Wamego City Cemetery.

The two of them enjoyed nearly 45 years of marriage which included raising their three adored children, Derek Riniker of Wamego, Kansas, Amanda Riniker of Manhattan, Kansas and Dylan Riniker (Victoria Pettay) of Manhattan, Kansas.Along with his wife and children, Dirk is also survived by his mother Betty Riniker of Louisville, Kansas and his twin brothers, Dan Riniker (Julie) of Wamego, Kansas and Daney Riniker of Westmoreland, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his father, Daney Riniker in 2010 and his nephew, Jayson Ebert, in 2021.Other survivors include his father-in-law, James Ebert (Dorothy Winterman) of Wamego, Kansas; his mother-in-law, Alice Marten (Bob) of St. George, Kansas; sisters-in-law, Denise Carlston of Manassas, Virginia, Rhonda Trudo (Ron) of Manhattan, Kansas, and Lisa Diederich (Tim) of Wamego, Kansas; and a brother-in-law, James Ebert II (Jenni) of Wamego, Kansas, and many nieces and nephews.Dirk inherited a strong work ethic from his parents at a young age. His first job was at the age of 11, delivering the daily Topeka Capital Journal newspaper to Louisville residents. During and after high school, he worked as a farmhand, first for Buddy Habluetzel and then for Arlo Stockebrand. He later began working as a heavy construction equipment operator for companies including Bayer Construction, Manhattan, Kansas, Midwest Construction, Kansas City, Missouri, and Ebert Construction, Wamego, Kansas. Most of his years were spent with Ebert Construction where he was a natural leader who worked his way up to serving as President and CEO, and was a stockholder with his wife Becky, until his retirement.During his career, he served in many leadership roles in the local community as well as in the construction industry at large. Locally, he served on the City of Wamego Infrastructure Planning Committee and as a director for the Pottawatomie County Economic Development Corporation, both for several years. In the construction industry, he served in many capacities for the Kansas Land Improvement Contractors of America, including as President in 2004 and was named the 2005 Contractor of the Year. For the National Land Improvement Contractors of America, he served as President from 2010 - 2011 and then as a regional director for many years. Dirk also served on the board of directors of the Kansas Contractors Association (KCA) from 2014 - 2019 and was a past chairman of the KCA Grading and Railroad Division. He developed many lifelong friendships with others in the industry, including competitors with whom he shared a mutual respect, regardless of who won a bid.Work was Dirk’s life and hobby, but other things he loved and enjoyed were time with his family and good friends; fishing and motorcycle trips with buddies; and cross-country road trips with Becky and their friends discovering whatever they might find along the way including “hole in the wall” restaurants and bars, many of which turned out to be hidden gems.He will lie in-state beginning at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, June 17, 2024 at Campanella &amp; Stewart Funeral Home, followed by a visitation where family will greet friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Wamego. &nbsp;Burial will follow in the Wamego City Cemetery.Memorial donations are suggested to Wamego Community Foundation FBO: The Dirk Riniker Memorial Fund for Children’s Outdoor Recreation and may be left in care of Campanella and Stewart Funeral Home, PO Box 48, Wamego, KS 66547.

Leslie was born the oldest of three children on September 2, 1957, in Junction City, Kansas. She went to school in Junction City through the seventh grade. Then she moved to Manhattan, Kansas to finish middle school and complete high school. Leslie graduated from Manhattan High School in 1975. After, she attended Kansas State University for two years pursuing a degree in Architecture Engineering. Growing up in the country, Leslie loved her pets from her Shetland ponies, cats, especially her Siamese cats, dogs, and was particularly fond of the time she had her alligator companion. In her teenage years, she enjoyed spending time with her best friends while her sister tagged along. She was passionate about music and loved to dance. She also enjoyed roller skating and water skiing.

Leslie was married to her high school sweetheart on May 21, 1977. She met Theodore E. Ayon (Ted), both at the age of 16 years old. Once married she discontinued her college studies and moved to Germany where he was stationed. After the Germany tour, they moved to Ft. Sill, Oklahoma where she was an apartment complex manager. When her husband completed his service they moved to El Paso, Texas to be with her family. There their two children were born, Theodore Jr and Tessie. While in Texas Leslie worked as a pharmacy clerk and sold real estate. Moving back to Manhattan, she was employed for a brief time at McDonalds until she started working for KK&amp;E as a tax mapper and then Schwab and Eaton where she became the head cartographer. Leslie ended her working career as a delivery driver with UPS, retiring after 21 years at the age of 52.

In addition to her career, Leslie was a member of the Society of Women Engineers while attending K-State, the president of the Non-Commissioned Officers, Enlisted Men Wives Club in Germany, and a member of the association of Texas Realtors. During her time at UPS, she was proud to be the head of the Safety Committee, where she was recognized with an award for the Safety Co-Chair of the year. Leslie enjoyed conversation, a skill she surely picked up from the many years in high school working as a grocery checker. She loved to do crafty and decorative things, including helping to plan many weddings and celebrations. She cherished house gatherings, family get together, and family and friend visitors, especially in her home she drew up the plans for and designed. She was delighted in cooking for others and maintaining her pool. From time to time, she was persuaded to go on travels with her family, husband, and getaways with her girls. Leslie appreciated her coworkers and friends she met along the way. Especially “her boys at UPS”. She would do anything for and to see the people she loved. Leslie was an unbelievably devoted wife and mother, very kind, caring, and stern person. She leaves behind quite a few dear friends, as she touched many lives, all good. Above all else Leslie’s greatest accomplishments were being a wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by her husband of 47 years Theodore Edward Ayon (Ted); Her son, Theodore Edward Ayon Jr. (TJ), and her daughter Tessie Jolene Riffel and husband Drew Riffel; and their 2 children Taylor Jean Ayon Riffel, and Delaney Jo Riffel. She is also survived by her brother Gregory ‘Bud’ Elliott, his wife Vicky Elliott, and her three nephews: Stephen Elliott, Matthew Huff, and Josh Huff along with their wives and children, and her many extended family members and friends. Leslie was preceded in death by her father, Lester L. Elliott; Mother, Margret Josephine ‘Jo’ Elliott, and Sister, Kelly Jolene Elliott who she is once again reunited with in heaven. You will find her when you look up, as she will be watching over all from above in the clouds, until we meet again.

Leslie passed May 31, at the age of 66, at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka, Kansas, from heart failure resulting from her struggle from her cancer treatments. She will be cremated and have a celebration of life gathering at her home, 4121 McDowell Creek Road, Manhattan, KS July 5, 2024.

Richard F. Stonger, age 67, passed away at his home on Saturday, June 8, 2024.

Richard was born January 30, 1957, in Marysville, to Francis K. and Gertrude C. (Droegemueller) Stonger. &nbsp;He graduated from Marysville High School in 1975 then from Manhattan Area VoTech in 1977. &nbsp;He had worked for Burlington Northern Railroad as a welder on a maintenance of way crew.

He was a member of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. &nbsp;

Richard loved being with his nieces and nephews, and many friends. &nbsp;He also loved his dogs, especially his Labrador Retrievers. &nbsp;He also enjoyed being outside; either hunting, fishing, working in his garage on old cars and trucks, or fixing and eating good Bar-B-Que, and taking memorable trips.

Survivors include his sister Kathy (Bryon) Armstrong of Winifred, his nieces and nephews: Roger Armstrong, Brad Armstrong, Jenny (Justin) Stallbaumer and Jody Crumbley and many great nieces and nephews.

Preceding Richard in death are his parents, Francis and Gertrude.

A Celebration of Life will be held at his home, 701 S. 7th&nbsp;Street, Marysville, Kansas, at 11:00 a.m.&nbsp; Saturday, June 15, 2024. &nbsp;A private inurnment will be held at a later time.

Virginia May Graves, age 73 of Clay Center, passed away Friday, June 7, 2024, at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka.

She was born on December 17, 1950, in Westwood, California, the daughter of Ernest Harold and Thelma Faye (Hufstedler) Little. &nbsp;She graduated from West Plains High School in Missouri.

She was married to William “Bill” Wayne Graves on October 21, 1971, at her parents' farm in Peace Valley, Missouri. &nbsp;He preceded her in death.

Virginia was a para for the Clay County School District U.S.D. 379 and attended the Clay Center United Methodist Church. &nbsp;She was active in the Clay Center Quilters Guild and attended a sewing group on Wednesdays in Morganville. &nbsp;She was also an honorary member of the Clay Center FFA. &nbsp;Virginia enjoyed quilting, gardening, and her chickens. &nbsp; Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and she texted them often.

She is survived by her three children, Wendy Sherbert and Greg of Clay Center, Wallace Graves of Clay Center and Cindy Geer and Ray of Clay Center; six grandchildren, Lane Sherbert, Josh Sherbert, Wesley Graves, Reegan Geer, Reece Geer and Ryan Geer; six siblings, Freddy Little and Kathy, Lois Downen, James Little, Lloyd Little and Ellie, David Little and Nancy and Susie Vazquez and Virgilio, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband Bill, she was preceded in death by her parents; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Eldon and Francis Graves; a brother-in-law, Gene Downen; two nephews, Vincent and Stewart Graves, and her parents-in-law, Bill and Gladys Steffen.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 14, 2024, at the Clay Center United Methodist Church with Rev. Reuben Langat, Ph.D. officiating. &nbsp;The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home. &nbsp;Cremation will follow the funeral and private family inurnment will be in the Highland Cemetery in Wakefield, KS.

Larry R. Godfrey, 77, died Saturday, May 18, 2024 at the Franklin Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio.

 Viewing Services will be held for him at Parkview Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 12, 2024 from 6 to 8 p.m.&nbsp; Burial services will be held Thursday, June 13, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Veteran's Cemetery in Manhattan, Kansas.

Larry was born November 7, 1946 in Fairmont, West Virginia and attended high school at East Fairmont High School and graduated with honors. He then enlisted in the Marine Corps and served in Viet Nam for almost 2 years at De Nang Air Base. He received the Purple Heart after being wounded from a sniper's bullet. While in Viet Nam he became acquainted with Verina Rose Thompson through mail correspondence. After being discharged from the Marines, he married Rose and attended Ohio University. He gradated with a degree in electrical engineering and began working at the Ohio Power Company for 6 years before moving on to become the Plant Engineer at Dow Chemical Company, then the Project Engineer at Rockwell International, and then Facilities Engineer and Plant Engineer at other facilities. He also started his own business as an engineering/computer consultant. Larry and Rose had two children, Patricia Rose Godfrey and Richard Wayne Godfrey.

He attended Calvary Faith Tabernacle in Newark, Ohio and was a Sunday School Teacher and led several Bible Studies as well as organizing church social events and Christmas and Easter programs. Later in his life he earned a Master's and two Doctoral degrees in Christian Education through the Shalom Bible College.

He is survived by his wife, Rose (Thompson) Godfrey of Kansas, his daughter and son-in-law Trisha and Scott Snyder of Kansas, his son and daughter-in-law Rick and Benea Godfrey of Georgia, four grandchildren, Talon Godfrey (wife Bradlie) of Georgia, Aiden Godfrey of Georgia, Caitlin Snyder of Kansas, Robyn Snyder of Kansas, and his sisters Carol Lee Aronhalt and Lana Sandy, and his nephew John Cochran (wife Marci) and niece Miriam Bingamon (husband John), all of West Virginia. He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Sterling and Alma Godfrey, and his sister Cheryl Cochran, also of West Virginia.

Larry R. Godfrey

Patricia "Patty" Rosell, 70, of Junction City, Kansas passed away on June 6, 2024, at Stormont-Vail Healthcare.

Patty was born on December 27, 1953, to Edward W. Rosell and Bernice (Shibilo) Rosell at Poughkeepsie, New York. While growing up, Patty enjoyed spending time with her large family. She grew up with six siblings all of which would look after and take care of her.

Patty had many hobbies throughout her life such as her volunteer cleaning jobs while living in New York, volunteering at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, working with arts and crafts, and of course doing her word search puzzles. Patty's faith brought her to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church where she attended many bible studies, prayer sessions, and The Holy Mass.

She is survived by her loving brothers, Paul Rosell of Junction City, Kansas and Robert (Roylene) Rosell of Pilot Mountain, North Carolina, and several nieces and nephews. Patty is preceded by her loving parents; three brothers, Edward C. Rosell, Henry J. Rosell, and Johnny Rosell and one sister, Joann Nater.

Memorial Contributions are suggested to be given to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and The American Red Cross.

Cremation has taken place and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at&nbsp;St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 218 N Washington St, Junction City, KS,&nbsp; &nbsp;on Monday, June 17, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. followed by a graveside service at St. Mary's Cemetery. Rosary will be held on Monday, June 17, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. prior to funeral mass.

Rosell and Bernice (Shibilo) Rosell at Poughkeepsie, New York. While growing up, Patty enjoyed spending time with her large family. She grew up with six siblings all of which would look after and take care of her.Patty had many hobbies throughout her life such as her volunteer cleaning jobs while living in New York, volunteering at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, working with arts and crafts, and of course doing her word search puzzles. Patty's faith brought her to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church where she attended many bible studies, prayer sessions, and The Holy Mass.She is survived by her loving brothers, Paul Rosell of Junction City, Kansas and Robert (Roylene) Rosell of Pilot Mountain, North Carolina, and several nieces and nephews. Patty is preceded by her loving parents; three brothers, Edward C. Rosell, Henry J. Virginia May Graves, age 73 of Clay Center, passed away Friday, June 7, 2024, at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka.She was born on December 17, 1950, in Westwood, California, the daughter of Ernest Harold and Thelma Faye (Hufstedler) Little. &nbsp;She graduated from West Plains High School in Missouri.She was married to William “Bill” Wayne Graves on October 21, 1971, at her parents' farm in Peace Valley, Missouri. &nbsp;He preceded her in death.Virginia was a para for the Clay County School District U.S.D. 379 and attended the Clay Center United Methodist Church. &nbsp;She was active in the Clay Center Quilters Guild and attended a sewing group on Wednesdays in Morganville. &nbsp;She was also an honorary member of the Clay Center FFA. &nbsp;Virginia enjoyed quilting, gardening, and her chickens. &nbsp; Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and she texted them often.She is survived by her three children, Wendy Sherbert and Greg of Clay Center, Wallace Graves of Clay Center and Cindy Geer and Ray of Clay Center; six grandchildren, Lane Sherbert, Josh Sherbert, Wesley Graves, Reegan Geer, Reece Geer and Ryan Geer; six siblings, Freddy Little and Kathy, Lois Downen, James Little, Lloyd Little and Ellie, David Little and Nancy and Susie Vazquez and Virgilio, and numerous nieces and nephews.In addition to her husband Bill, she was preceded in death by her parents; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Eldon and Francis Graves; a brother-in-law, Gene Downen; two nephews, Vincent and Stewart Graves, and her parents-in-law, Bill and Gladys Steffen.Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 14, 2024, at the Clay Center United Methodist Church with Rev. John Howard Bishop, 71, passed away on May 29, 2024 in Abilene, Kansas.

He was born on March 30, 1953 in Tokyo, Japan, to Howard Bishop and Adele Bishop. John is survived by his wife, Jean Bishop, his mother, Adele Bishop, his children, Elizabeth, Timothy (Heather), Joshua (Rachel), and Stephen. He is also survived by his siblings Thomas (Margaret), Carol (Delmar), Rebecca (Allen), and Phillip (Kitty). John has six grandchildren and was preceded in death by his father, Howard Bishop.

John was an engineer by trade, working for manufacturing and tech companies, notably Texas instruments. He was well respected by his colleagues. John was known to all as a kind and caring man who was dedicated to his family and his Christian faith which he shared with his wife and children. He will be deeply missed by his family and those who knew him.

A memorial service to honor and celebrate John's life will be held on June 29th at 10 a.m. at New Trail Fellowship (1157 2400 Ave, Abilene, KS 67410.

Everett Ray Piper, 83, of Wamego, Kansas, passed away peacefully in his home on April 28th, 2024 after a series of complications and bad health from covid in 2020.

Everett was born on August 29th, 1940 in Manhattan, Kansas to Fred and Valera "Ma" Macklin Piper. He spent his youth raising hepshire hogs with his dad, fishing and he was active in 4-H. After graduating from high school, Everett got into sales and selling shoes; later retiring as the manager of the JC Penny Jewelry Department.&nbsp;

Everett met Linda Stewart and they wed in 1979. They raised four children, Tammy Lakin (Lonnie), Randy Piper, Brenda Spriggs of Manhattan, KS, and Matt Piper (Teka) of Chanute, KS.

Everett was also a passionate fisherman and could often be found at the lake with Linda by his side. He would always have a story about hunting, fishing, or his youth to anyone that would listen. Friends knew him best by Shorty, Orty, Tony and Papoo.

Anyone who knew Everett knew that he was the most loving father, grandfather, and husband a family could ask for. Everett was predeceased by his Dad - Fred Piper, Mom - Valera Macklin Piper, Brother - Raymond, Daughter - Tammy, Son - Randy and Granddaughter - Briana. Diane Reid, 79, of St. George, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday (June 5, 2024) at Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan, Kansas.

Born September 21, 1944 in Ottawa, Kansas, Diane was a daughter of John and Jean (Manchester) Dennis. &nbsp; She married her first husband, Jack, and had a son, Derrick who both preceded her as a result of an accident. &nbsp;She later married Marion Reid.

Following her graduation from Pomona High School, Diane worked as a telephone operator in Ottawa. She later worked as the manager of the Walnut Grove Mobile Home Park and St. George Mobile Home Park for over 40 years until her retirement.&nbsp;

An animal lover, Diane cared for her Pomeranian dogs, never being without one for many years. She also enjoyed spending her days watching the cats play outdoors. &nbsp;In her free time, she was an avid reader and enjoyed watching all &nbsp;sports on T.V. and especially loved rooting for the Kansas Jayhawks basketball team.

Diane is survived by her daughter, Tanya Baruth (Scott) of Wamego; two grandchildren, Makayla Baruth and Bryce Ried; and two stepsons, Tony Reid (Cathy) and Chris Reid.&nbsp;

Diane is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Jack and son, Derrick; and a brother, John Philip Dennis.&nbsp;

The family will meet with friends at a memorial visitation on Sunday evening, (June 16, 2024) from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Campanella &amp; Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego.

Dwayne L. “Sonny” Roepke, age 82, of Waterville, passed away on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at the Blue Valley Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Blue Rapids.

Sonny was born in Waterville, on August 21, 1941, and is the son of Lawrence E. and Edythe L. (Sperry) Roepke. &nbsp;He graduated from Waterville High School in 1959. &nbsp;After high school he enlisted in the Kansas Army National Guard. &nbsp;On October 16, 1961 he married Carlene J. Naylor from Greenleaf at the United Methodist Church in Waterville. &nbsp; &nbsp;

Sonny was a farmer and a stockman all his life, raising hogs and cattle on his farm at Cottage Hill. &nbsp;Some of Sonny’s hobbies were taking his 1957 Chevy BelAir to parades and car shows. &nbsp; He also enjoyed collecting old John Deere tractors and taking them to parades with his great grandsons. &nbsp;He always wanted to fly airplanes, however he decided flying remote control planes were a lot safer.

Survivors include Sonny’s wife Carlene, his daughters: Perri Hull of Blue Rapids, Sandy (Mike) Mann of Waterville, a sister Jean Roepke of Waterville, five grandchildren: Jami (Kevin) Wessel, Keri (Jeremy) Gardner, Brandi Hull, Casey (Dan) Mellstead, Macy (Ben) Ghalami, and five great grandchildren: Kinze, Lydia, Trevor, Danny and Mason. &nbsp;Preceding Sonny in death were his parents, Lawrence and Edythe.

Mary Ruth Shaffer, age 83, of Washington, passed away on Sunday, June 9, 2024, at the Washington County Hospital.

Mary was born on September 18, 1940, to Clifford R. and Roseteen (Summers) VanZandt. &nbsp;She married Billie Shaffer on April 19, 1974 at Odessa, Texas. &nbsp;He passed away in 2015.

Mary was very athletic as a young woman and could out run everyone in high school. &nbsp;In Junior and Senior High School she was a Cheer Leader. &nbsp;Mary loved her dogs, horses and mules. &nbsp;She loved music, singing and playing her violin whenever the opportunity came. &nbsp;She also enjoyed writing poems.

Mary is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Preceding Mary in death are her parents and three siblings: &nbsp;Helen Nelson-VanZandt, Sue Vice and Hillard VanZandt.

Inurnment for Mary and her husband Billie will be at the family cemetery, Willow, Oklahoma.

Kathy Marie Walls, 62, of Junction City, Kansas, passed away on June 6, 2024, in her home.

 Cremation has taken place and a private Celebration of Life service will be held at Church of Christ, 1125 N. Adams, Junction City, Kansas 66441 on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Kathy was born on Valentine's Day in 1962 in Aurora, Missouri, to Claude and Virginia Tharp.&nbsp; At the age of two, Kathy's parents moved to Junction City as her dad was stationed at Fort Riley. Kathy remained in Junction City throughout the remainder of her life. Kathy attended Junction City High School and graduated in the Class of 1980. She married her loving husband, Jerry Walls, on May 23, 2013. Kathy worked for Electric Wire Harness for 27 years but at the end of the day, her family was always the most important part of her life! Kathy used to love to spend much of her free time working in her vegetable and flower gardens. When she was no longer able to enjoy this hobby, Kathy discovered her love of crocheting.

Kathy is survived by her devoted husband of 10 years, Jerry; two sons, Mike (Jasmine) Stewart and Westley Stewart; two step-sons, Christopher (Debra) Walls and Scott (Becky) Walls; one daughter, Michelle (Joshua) Wingate; one step-daughter, Krystal McBee; fourteen grandchildren, Audri, Alaina, Colton, Chad, Noah, Brianna, Lydia , Tessa, Aspen, Emma, John, Jade, Kristopher, and Elizabeth; one brother, Robert (Tina) Tharp. She also leaves behind her dog, Scooter. Kathy was preceded in death by her parents.

Donald R. "Red" Walker, 65, of Junction City, Kansas died on Sunday, June 2, 2024 at The University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, Kansas. A celebration of life service is pending at the residence in his garden. Cremation has taken place.

Red was born May 9, 1959, in Columbus, Georgia the son of Betty Jean Walker. Red served in the United States Army. He worked in food service at Fort Riley for many years. On May 27, 2011, he married Faye Hills in Junction City, Kansas.

A celebration of life service is pending at the residence in his garden. Cremation has taken place.Red was born May 9, 1959, in Columbus, Georgia the son of Betty Jean Walker. Red served in the United States Army. He worked in food service at Fort Riley for many years. On May 27, 2011, he married Faye Hills in Junction City, Kansas.Survivors include his wife Fay Walker of Junction City, Kansas;Johnson &amp; Mass-Hinitt Cremations, Funerals &amp; Receptions,&nbsp;203 North Washington Junction City, KS 66441 (785-762-3131) is assisting the family.

David E. Taylor, age 70, of Blue Rapids, passed away on Monday, June 3, 2024, at Bryan Medical Center in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Dave was born on September 5, 1953, in Topeka, to Clarence V. and Florence I. (Walker) Taylor. &nbsp;After graduating from high school, he joined the US Army. &nbsp;Later he married Yvonne “Kay” Claycamp on February 15, 1997 at Blue Rapids. &nbsp;He worked for Twin Valley Developmental Services assisting in the maintenance department.

Dave loved dogs. &nbsp;He enjoyed church activities at United Methodist Church in Blue Rapids. &nbsp; He was a storm spotter and a Ford guy.&nbsp;

Survivors include his wife Kay and brother-in-law Greg (Cathy) Claycamp of Waynesville, North Carolina, and by aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Preceding Dave in death were his parents.

Viewing is from noon to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 6, 2024, at Christie-Anderes Funeral Home in Waterville.

Funeral services are at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 7, 2024, at the United Methodist Church in Blue Rapids, with Pastor Shannon Borgman officiating.

Burial will be at Prospect Hill Cemetery, north of Blue Rapids.

Memorials are suggested to either: Twin Valley Developmental Services or to the Blue Rapids United Methodist Church and may be sent in care of Christie-Anderes Funeral Home at PO Box 61, Waterville, Kansas 66548.

David E. Taylor

Larry Eugene Bowers, longtime Riley County resident, passed away on May 26, 2024, in his hometown of Manhattan, Kansas after a long hard-fought battle with Parkinson’s.

He was born on June 3, 1939, on a farm East of Munden, Kansas, the second child of Joye William Bowers and Lucille Sunshine (Verley) Bowers. He attended elementary school in rural Gleason, followed by a secondary education in Munden, Kansas where he excelled in basketball and academics. Larry received his B.S. and M.S. degrees, followed by a Doctorate (Ed.D.) from Northern Illinois University in 1966. He took flying lessons while attending graduate school in order to be able to fly from his hometown of Downers Grove, Illinois to N.I.U. in DeKalb, Illinois.

Dr. Bowers worked his way up from student teaching to the position of Principal of a larger suburban High School, west of Chicago, named Downers Grove North High. Later he worked in District Office 99 as Assistant Superintendent for Personnel. In 1973, he moved his young family to Lynchburg, Virginia where he was commissioned to start a K-12 Christian School. During the time the family lived there, they witnessed much controversy over Anita Bryant’s (Miss America) political and religious beliefs.

Larry was later employed by the NASSP (National Association of Secondary School Principals), to give seminars to educators on the use of computers and traveled the U.S. speaking on this “new” technology. Later he returned to his educational pursuits as Superintendent of Schools in his home state of Kansas. First in southwest Kansas and later in 1999-2005 as Superintendent of the U.S.D. 378 Riley County School District. He and his late wife “Nubby” built a beautiful home on West Highway 24, half-way between Manhattan and Riley, Kansas. They enjoyed this “country” home on 25 acres, as well as their nearby Sedalia Church and Congregation. Sadly, Larry’s wife of 39 years, Ruth (Nubby) passed away after a long-extended illness.&nbsp;

Dr. Bowers was an active member of the Downers Grove Kiwanis Club, Phi Kappa Phi, Tau Kappa Epsilon, as well as a D.G. First Baptist Church Deacon who spearheaded the coordination of their K-12 Christian School. Later, as a resident of Manhattan, he was a member of Manhattan’s Rotary Club, Barbershop Chorus, delivered Meals on Wheels, and served as a Deacon at the First Presbyterian Church of Manhattan.

Outside of his profession, he enjoyed waterskiing on Lake Geneva, in Delavan, Wisconsin with his son and daughter. He also traveled with his wife to Europe and spent time in D.G. with his brother, Phil and Aleda Bowers with their three children. Larry also cheered his high school’s athletic events and proms, as well as spending time with close D.G. friends. He will be remembered as a loving husband to his wife Ruth Freda (Seeley) Bowers also known as (“Nubby”) and the father to son, Daniel Garrett Bowers and daughter, Mary Amanda Bowers.

While attending longtime friends, Ron and Jan Janasek’s son, Mitchell’s wedding in Ft. Collins, Colorado, Larry met widow Carolyn James Knostman at the reception. Months later they reconnected back in their mutual city of Manhattan, Kansas. They dated for 1 ½ years, and in October of 2004 they were married in the beautiful back yard of Ann McDonald’s Leavenworth Street home. Always up for an adventure, the newlywed couple’s priority was to travel in Europe after years of care-giving their former spouses. This would include: the Albuquerque Balloon Festival, a Western Caribbean Cruise, and cities of New York, Chicago, Denver, San Diego, and Tampa, FL. They travelled with fellow KSU Alums to Greece, Italy, Germany, France, England, Ireland, Switzerland, and Belgium. During their (almost twenty year) marriage, Larry became a long-distance bicyclist and an enthusiastic Kansas State Sports Fan, attending several Bowl Games as well as visiting families in Colorado, Illinois, Georgia, and Florida.

Dr. Bowers was preceded in death by his parents, his late wife, “Nubby” and his daughter, Amanda Bowers, and niece, Tiffanie Bowers Holm. Larry is survived by his wife Carolyn Bowers of the home, his son Daniel Bowers of Georgia/Tennessee, a daughter-in-law Chris Gardener, and his brother, Phillip Bowers (Aleda) and their twin sons, Todd and Lane Bowers and families of Downers Grove and Winter Haven, FL. In addition, he is survived by granddaughter, Kayla Bowers Hay (Justin) and great grandson Logan Hay, as well as sister-in-law, Mary Seely Easton.

Additionally, Larry is survived by his step-children, James Thomas Knostman (Jennifer), Daniel Peck Knostman (Catherine), and Nancy Knostman Supernor (Jamie). As well as six step-grandchildren: Noah, Noel, and Harrison Knostman of New York and Pittsburg, PA, Savannah, Sophie, and Emersyn Supernor of Johnstown, Colorado. Larry was not only a leader in his field and to his families, but his positive, uplifting personality and ever-ready smile will be sorely missed!

Memorial Services will be June 15, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Manhattan on 8th&nbsp;and Leavenworth with Pastor Kelly Pittman officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until service time. &nbsp;Following the service, there will be a reception in Fisher Hall, which is on the lower level of the church. Inurnment will take place at a later date in both Munden and Wamego, Kansas.&nbsp;

Larry Eugene Bowers

Raymond D. Evans, 66, of Junction City, Kansas passed away on June 1, 2024, at Via Christi Nursing Home.

He was born on September 4, 1957, to Harry Evans, Jr. and Betty (Simmers) Evans in Glenmoore, Pennsylvania. Raymond worked as a gardener for most of his life. He first started in landscape with the Robert Montgomery Horticulture Center located near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This is where he met his loving wife, Linda Seaburn. They were married May 5, 1987, in Malvern, Pennsylvania.

Landscape was one of his passions and made many homes in Junction City very beautiful. Along with landscaping, Raymond had other hobbies such as Karate. This passion of martial arts came from the classic Karate movies of the '80s. Raymond was a parishioner of The Episcopal Church of The Covenant in Junction City for many years. Here he met many of his friends who will remember him fondly.

Raymond is survived by his sister, Robin Evans-Riley; friend, Todd Ian Hegeman and many other loving friends.He was preceded in death by his loving wife and his parents. 

A memorial service will take place on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at The Episcopal Church of The Covenant officiated by The Very Reverend Steve Libscomb followed by a graveside service at Highland Cemetery.&nbsp;&nbsp;
