Harold Harry Walker, age 84, passed away on December 9, 2021, at the Nicol Home in Glasco

He was born February 6, 1937, in rural Cloud County to Glen and Sophia (Babe)Gunter Walker.

The house that he was born in is the same house that he lived in until he fell and broke his hip June 19, 2020. He then moved into the nursing home. He had always said that he wanted to die in the same house he was born in, unfortunately he was unable to do so.

He attended grade school at the Carmel School House, two miles north of his house. He rode his horse, Spot, to school and then told the horse to go home. Which it did!! Then his mom would send the horse back to get him after school. He always had a special way with horses. He was active in 4-H and enjoyed showing his champion sheep. He attended Miltonvale Rural High School and graduated in 1955. After high school he worked for Chevrolet dealerships in Clay Center and Great Bend.

In 1957 he met the love of his life on a blind date. He married Patricia Ruth Christian on May 10, 1959. This year they celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary with their granddaughter, Crystal and husband Joe who shared the same anniversary date.

Harold's dad passed away in February before he and Pat were married. They took over the farming operation and made their home on the family farm in Colfax township. They were blessed with 3 children, Jeanine Christine, Harold Wayne, and Stanley Lynn. Harold taught his children the values of hard work and farm family life. Together they worked the land raising wheat, milo, and soybeans. Over the years there were several hundred head of sheep, cattle, and pigs to take care of also. Many long hot days of summer were spent putting up small bales of hay, where you could hear him say "Off your butt and on your feet, out of the shade and in the heat". Don't know who was more excited when New Holland came out with a big round baler, Harold, or the boys. Harold was one of the first farmers in the area to own one. He then went into custom hay business. He soon discovered that he needed a way to move the bales and a big feeder to feed them in, so he went to the drawing board and designed a bale spear and bale feeder. Soon he was making and selling them to everyone that he had baled hay for.

In addition to all the farm work, he and his cousin, Leland sheared sheep all over the country during the time that they raised sheep. He broke and trained horses for several area ranchers. Then in the 70's, when the farming economy went crazy, Harold went to work welding at night at GT and Hutch in Clay Center.

Harold enjoyed spending time with his kids teaching them to ride horses. He always reminded them if you fall off get right back on and ride and always hang on to the reins, unless Flicka is dragging you. They had fun going to horse shows and trail rides with the Miltonvale Saddle Club.

Harold was a big kid at heart. He once built a minibike for the kids and put the motor off the hay elevator on it. How no one got hurt on it is still a mystery. A short time later he came home with 2 motorcycles. Which didn't really work well with 3 kids. He found another one for Jeanine and soon they were all having limited fun. He only allowed them 1 cup of gasoline at a time, that way they couldn't get very far away from home.

He also had fun teaching the kids to drive a stick shift. He would set a glass of water on the dash and the challenge was to get through all 4 gears and not spill any water. One night they went thru a whole tank of gas in the truck only going around and around the section.

There wasn't anything that he couldn't do or fix, he was a plumber, an electrician, a mechanic, and an inventor. He was always designing and building things to simplify work on the farm.

He'd say, "Don't be lazy, just find an easier way to get things done". He built a propane heater for the branding irons and a hydraulic lift to get on and off the tractor just to name a couple. You could call him on the phone, and he could tell you step by step how to fix anything. Too bad we didn't take the time to write it all down.

Pat worked beside him on the farm, although not for sure that she forgave him for buying her the 856 International tractor for her birthday one year. She got even when he sent her to the sale barn to buy cattle and she came home with 2 trailers full of heifers.&nbsp; Later, he thought that she needed something to do while he was working nights in Clay, so he bought her 100 head of bred ewes. She spent countless hours in the barn with them and ended up with a 125% lamb crop that winter. But by spring she'd had enough and told him to sell them&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; She was going back to school to become a nurse.

Harold and Pat had a good life together on the farm and instilled great values in their children. For example, how early to get home to get to clean the chicken house or to build fence.

Harold loved to hunt and target shoot. Back before Blue Rock, Harold built a contraption that would sling tin cans and he and the boys would shoot for hours. He always looked forward to opening day of hunting season when several family members would come and go hunting with him.

The grandkids brought him even more joy. He enjoyed having them spend time and helping around the farm. One summer he even went out and bought more horses so all the kids would have a horse to ride with him.&nbsp; Later that summer he decided to take the kids on vacation to Wyoming. It was a once in lifetime experience that they will never forget. When his great granddaughters got a horse, he was so proud to teach them how to ride and care for it. The kids all loved going to the farm and riding with grandpa in the combine during harvest.&nbsp; They also had fun playing dominoes with him.

Harold belonged to the Masons for over 60 years and was also active in OES. He served on the Colfax township board for several years. He enjoyed flipping quarters, swapping stories, and drinking coffee with his friends.

Harold was an ornery character and always said what was on his mind. He loved to embarrass people..... We won't mention any names. to protect the guilty!!!!

Harold accepted the Lord and was baptized on December 23, 1945 and was a member of the Miltonvale United Methodist Church. Last year as his health was failing, he assured his family, "It's OK, I know where I am going." We find great comfort that he is with our Savior, and we will all be together again someday.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Patricia of the home, Jeanine and Robert Bacon of Council Grove, Harold Wayne and Tasha of Delphos and Stan and Jolene of Clay Center. 12 Grandchildren and 13 Great Grandchildren, his faithful companion, Sport, numerous family members and countless friends.

Harold was a loving husband, father, and grandpa.&nbsp; A good neighbor and loyal friend and willing to lend a helping hand whenever and wherever needed. His smile and contagious laughter will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.

Visitation will be Friday, December 17, 2021, at Phelps Funeral Home in Miltonvale from 5 - 7&nbsp; p.m.

There will be coffee and rolls at the Kountry Kafe from 8-10 a.m. on Saturday, December 18, 2021, in his honor.

Carol N. Redger, passed away peacefully on December 07, 2021 in Marietta, Georgia, where she had been residing the last two years. She was 93. Carol was born January 9, 1928, the daughter of Benjamin H. and Rachel C. Mahar McConkey&nbsp;in Solomon, Kansas. She attended the Solomon public schools, as well as DCCHS before&nbsp;graduating from Solomon High School in 1946. For a few years she worked as a telephone operator in Solomon. On October 10, 1948 Carol married Ervy Redger, a local farmer and cattleman. They lived several places, nearly all within Dickinson County, but the majority of years were spent just south of Carlton area and off Eden Road in the Sand Springs community. Carol worked for over 25 years as a CNA at Abilene Memorial Hospital and retired in 1990. She was an avid reader, furniture re-finisher, a volunteer with Abilene Pioneer Camp, and an active member of her church, First Baptist of Carlton, then First Baptist of Abilene, and later of&nbsp; Abilene’s Southern Baptist Church. Ervy died in 1993 and Carol continued to live on the farm until 2008 when she moved into Abilene, and later lived at Abilene Place. Carol was known to friends and family for her wonderful sense of humor, her sweet nature and consideration of others—even to the very end. Carol is survived by her four daughters Janis (Milton) Hill, Marietta, GA, Judith (Bernd) Marcus, Indianapolis, IN, Jacque (Ahmed Ezzouhairy) Redger, Maplewood, NJ, and Carol Elaine (Stephen) Kilpatrick, Shreveport, LA. There are five grandchildren: Byron Mitchell Hill of Charlotte, NC, Lauren Elaine Hill (Joshua) Jones of Marietta, Jordana Caroline Marcus of Indianapolis, Morgan Elaine and Christina Brooke Kilpatrick of Shreveport. She is survived by two great-grandchildren: Merritt Elaine and Nolan Everett Jones, of Marietta. Additionally, Carol is survived by one sister, Phyllis Gish of Vallejo, Ca. along with numerous nephews and nieces and their descendants. She was pre-deceased by her parents, a sister, and four brothers. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2021 at Martin-Becker-Carlson. Burial will be in the Abilene Cemetery. Anna Kosiak, 94, of Manhattan, formerly of Lyons, IL, passed away Saturday, December 4th, at Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community- Honstead House in Manhattan. She was a bookbinder in Chicago for Booklet Binding Broadview, IL., and mother of Maria (Robert) Sweet of Manhattan and Myra (Craig) Scramuzzo of Prairie Sun, WI. Anna was born in Ukraine, on May 1, 1927, the daughter of the late John and Olga (Hrwachuk) Kalyniuk. She is survived by her grandchildren, Scott ( Marybeth) Scramuzzo, John Scramuzzo, and her great-grandson, Jack Scramuzzo. Frank Lee Lojka, age 51, of Lincoln, NE, died peacefully in his home on December 3, 2021, after a courageous battle with brain cancer. He was born in October 1970, in Hays, Kansas, the son of Glen Franklin and Barbara Lee (Blundell) Lojka. Lee graduated from Manhattan High School and attended Fort Hays State University majoring in Fine Arts; he then attended Kansas State University graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Anthropology. He was married to Michelle M. “Shelly” Roben in July of 1995; she was his best friend and partner in life for 26 years. Survivors include his wife Shelly Roben-Lojka and one child Renn Lojka of Lincoln, NE; his mother Barbara Lojka of Manhattan; his brother Dr. Brian Lojka (Tonya) of Chesterfield, MO; his In-laws Gerald and Sue Roben of Bellevue, Iowa; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. Lee was preceded in death by his father on August 31st, 2021. Lee was a Chef and Director of Food Service programs throughout Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska. His career spanned 21 years and culminated in his dream job as the Director of Food Service at Camp Carol Joy Holling in Ashland, NE. part of Nebraska Lutheran Outdoor Ministries. He was a talented artist, teacher and role model. Lee was an avid reader, collector of cookbooks, lover of cats and an outdoorsman whose favorite place was anywhere he could fish, hike, kayak and cook over an open fire. He spent his time loving people through food, music and dynamic conversation. Lee was a gentle giant who was never at a loss for words and always made people feel welcome. He had a quick sense of humor and a huge laugh that would fill a room. Lee loved large family and friend gatherings where there was laughter and chaos. Lee was a fiercely loyal son, brother and friend but above all else he was a devoted husband and father. Memorial service to be held at 10:00 am Saturday, December 18th, at College Avenue United Methodist Church, 1609 College Avenue, Manhattan, KS, with Reverend Dr. Dennis Ackerman and Pastor Nate Wilcox officiating. A celebration of Lee’s life will be held following the service from 1:30 pm to 4:00 pm at the Kansas State University Alumni Center, 100 Alumni Ctr, 1720 Anderson Ave., Manhattan, KS. Helen Jeannine Webber, 75, of Milford, KS, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at her home in Milford after battling cancer since 2009. Cremation will take place. Helen was born October 7, 1946, in Superior, NE the daughter of Jasper Edward and Dorothy Fern (Bowman) Hobbs. Helen worked for over thirty five years at the Walmart in Junction City, KS. She was a Walk of Life Participant for many years. She enjoyed riding her motorcycle and taking trips with other friends on motorcycles. Helen enjoyed reading, working puzzles and gardening. She enjoyed watching the television programs Survivor, Young and the Restless and Judge Judy. One of her favorite things to do was to travel to Nebraska to visit her sister and attend church, attend Nebraska Passport and Street Car Days. She enjoyed spending time with the love of her life Mike Ammann. He passed away January 23, 2015. Survivors include her two daughters, Jeannine Ann Tipton of Milford, KS and Candi Lee Webber of Watkins, CO; one sister, Sara Ellen Richards and her husband Jim of Red Cloud, NE; grandchildren, Janelle, Jasmine, Crystal, Matthew and Racheal; eight greatgrandchildren; one great-great grandchild and a host of other nephews, nieces and other relatives. Charles Willard Schurle, age 81 of Manhattan, passed over to God’s glory on December 6, 2021.

He was born on October 5, 1940 on a 1,000 acre dairy and general farm near Manhattan, the son of George and Fannie (Schwab) Schurle.  He graduated from Keats High School and from Kansas State University with a B.S. in Business Administration and Management.  He served in the Kansas Army National Guard from 1958 until 1962.

On March 27, 1960 at the Wesleyan Methodist Church in Manhattan, he married Judy Ann Murdie.  They met at Youth for Christ Rallies in Manhattan during their high school years.  She survives of the home.

Charles owned and operated C and J Distributors, retiring in 2003.  He was a member of Grace Baptist Church, where he served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees.  He enjoyed bowling, fishing and was a basketball and football sports fan.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters, Melinda (Greg) Bowen, Melanie (Martin) Dannatt, Jodie (Craig) Scoby and Julie (Jack) O’Neil; eight grandchildren, Megan (Mylz) Dixon, Kate (Dixon) Olson, Ellie Scoby, Abbie Scoby, Ethan Scoby, Samuel O’Neil, Adam O’Neil and Luke O’Neil; three great grandchildren, Ryder Dixon, Zoey Dixon and Eli Dixon; one sister, Angie (David) Murphy and four brothers, Lyman (Shirley) Schurle, Robert (Lilia) Schurle, Stan (Betty) Schurle and Fred (Nancy) Schurle.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at Grace Baptist Church with Pastor Dennis Toll officiating.  The family will greet friends at a brunch before the memorial service starting at 10:00 a.m. at Grace Baptist Church.  Inurnment will be in the Kansas Veterans Cemetery.

Irene (Keating) Leiszler, 91, of Garden Plain, Kansas, passed away on December&nbsp;4, 2021 after a short&nbsp;illness .

Irene was born on February&nbsp;21, 1930 to James H. and Mary E. (Myers) Keating in Marysville, Kansas. After graduating from Haddam High School, Haddam, Kansas in 1947, she went on to study at Marymount College in Salina, Kansas.

Following her education, she worked&nbsp;as a teacher at Spence School, Kimeo, KS for one year.&nbsp; &nbsp;She then worked in Kansas City, Kansas; Lincoln, Nebraska and&nbsp; in Marysville, Kansas.

In 1954, she married Leonard C. Leiszler at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Clara, Kansas.&nbsp; They lived and farmed in the Strawberry, KS area for over 40 years and had seven children: Rosanne (David) Rutkowski of Broken Arrow, OK; James (Therese) Leiszler of Clifton, KS; Michael (Karen) Leiszler of Clyde, KS; Annemarie (Walter) Beckman of St. Louis, MO; Carmelita (Michael) Stockemer of Garden Plain, KS; John (Barb) Leiszler of Clifton, KS and Chris (Kim) Leiszler of Goodyear, AZ.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She is preceded in death by her husband Leonard, daughter Annemarie and both parents.&nbsp; She is survived by her remaining six children, twelve grandchildren: Matthew Rutkowski, Ryan Rutkowski, Zachary Leiszler, Alexandra (Beckman) Rose, Lucas Beckman, Shaughnessy (Stockemer) Zimmerman, Georgeanna Stockemer, David Leiszler, Mark Leiszler, Teresa Leiszler, Lori Leiszler, Jacob Leiszler; six great-grandchildren: Mabel, Edward and Matilda Rose, Theodore Rutkowski, Henry Zimmerman and Eleanor Leiszler.&nbsp; Also surviving are her three brothers: Bernard (Dee) Keating of Cedar Rapids, IA; James (Margaret) Keating of Faribault, MN and Pat (Mary) Keating Minneapolis, MN.

Irene was a faithful Catholic and was a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church, Clara, KS; St. Mary of the Assumption, Clifton, KS and St. Anthony of Padua, Garden Plain, KS.&nbsp; She served as a director and taught religious education for St. Mary, Clifton and was a member of the Altar Society at St Anthony, Garden Plain.

A Rosary will be held at St. Mary of the Assumption, Clifton, KS, Sunday, December 12th at 5:30 p.m.&nbsp; There will be a visitation the same day beginning at 3:30 p.m.&nbsp; A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, December 13th at St Mary, Clifton at 10:00 a.m.

She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, AARP and the German Club. Maria was preceded in death by her husband William A. Coss on April 2, 2018. She is survived by her son Walter K. He was born in October 1970, in Hays, Kansas, the son of Glen Franklin and Barbara Lee (Blundell) Lojka. Lee graduated from Manhattan High School and attended Fort Hays State University majoring in Fine Arts; he then attended Kansas State University graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Anthropology. He was married to Michelle M. “Shelly” Roben in July of 1995; she was his best friend and partner in life for 26 years. Survivors include his wife Shelly Roben-Lojka and one child Renn Lojka of Lincoln, NE; his mother Barbara Lojka of Manhattan; his brother Dr. Brian Lojka (Tonya) of Chesterfield, MO; his In-laws Gerald and Sue Roben of Bellevue, Iowa; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. Lee was preceded in death by his father on August 31st, 2021. Lee was a Chef and Director of Food Service programs throughout Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska. His career spanned 21 years and culminated in his dream job as the Director of Food Service at Camp Carol Joy Holling in Ashland, NE. part of Nebraska Lutheran Outdoor Ministries. He was a talented artist, teacher and role model. Lee was an avid reader, collector of cookbooks, lover of cats and an outdoorsman whose favorite place was anywhere he could fish, hike, kayak and cook over an open fire. He spent his time loving people through food, music and dynamic conversation. Lee was a gentle giant who was never at a loss for words and always made people feel welcome. He had a quick sense of humor and a huge laugh that would fill a room. Lee loved large family and friend gatherings where there was laughter and chaos. Lee was a fiercely loyal son, brother and friend but above all else he was a devoted husband and father. Stephen Wayne Comstock, 57, of Manhattan Kansas, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by love on November 27th 2021. Steve fought a long battle against his body but won his fight against cancer that day -- because although it may have taken his body - it could never conquer his heart or his spirit. Steve was a military man, a music man, a sports man, but most importantly a family man. Everything he did in this life was to be the best husband and father he could be. Steve spent 20 selfless years in the US Army and spent even more time than that being a devoted Kansas City Chiefs fan which he ensured to pass along to his children. He will always be remembered by the smile picking up one of his guitars gave him, the love he had for his family, and the idea that everyone is measured in life not by who they say they are - but by what they do - so do your best. Shirley Ann Brown, 74, of Junction City, passed away early Tuesday, November 30th. She was the former operations manager of Sponge Ink Company in Cleveland, Ohio, and was an ordained minister for over 30 years. Shirley was born in Tyler, Texas on July 15, 1947, the daughter of the late James and Mozell (McNeil) Hawkins. She graduated from the Emmitt E. Scott High School in Tyler. Texas. On April 19, 1964, she was blessed with her only child Sherrel D. Johnson who preceded her in death. She was united in marriage to Arlester Brown on April 23, 1982 in Cleveland, OH and he preceded her in death. Shirley was an avid studier of the Bible, ministering to people around the world. Shirley loved to travel, watch Hallmark movies, and spending time with her family. Mary was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on January 20, 1936, the daughter of the late Ruth Lee (Weaver) Caudle and Herman Paul Caudle, Sr. She was the widow of Wallace Ray Kidd. Manhattan. Mary attended college at Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Manhattan, the Fairview Presbyterian Church, in Indianapolis, Indiana and the United Presbyterian Church Synod in Indiana; Sigma Alpha Iota; Bethel AME Keyboard Stardusters Study Group, AARP; Riley Co. Sr. Center as a member and served as a board member. She was the wife of Lelious Johnson and they were united in marriage on May 10, 1993, in Tyler, TX. Clayton James “Swede” Anderson, 83, of Alma, Kansas, died Sunday, December 5, 2021, in Topeka. He was a life-long resident of the area.

Swede was born on May 29, 1938, in Council Grove, Kansas, the son of Clayton R. and Emma (Hawthorne) Anderson. Swede attended schools in Alma and graduated from Alma High School in 1956. He joined the United States Army Reserves.

Swede worked his entire 41-year career as an Engineering Technician for the Kansas Department of Transportation.

He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Alma. Swede loved being out on a lake and lived several years at Lake Wabaunsee. He had a very astute intellect and was an avid reader and enjoyed doing day trades on the stock market. He also enjoyed time with his family.

Swede married Sharon Ann Hoffman on November 23, 1968, in Topeka. They later divorced. He then married Linda Sue Berroth on January 8, 1999, at Newbury. She preceded him in death on November 24, 2008.

Swede is survived by his children; Troy Anderson, Chanute, and James Anderson (Mary), Overland Park; daughter-in-law, Christie Anderson; his siblings, Terry Geisler, Alma, Gilda Lintz (Ron), Topeka, Theola Boeckman, St. Marys, and Rodney Geisler (Dorothy), Topeka; his grandchildren, Amber, Mitch, Nathan, Taci, Derek, Dillon, Nikki, Justin, Shawna, Steven, Edwin, Rosemary, Larry, Madison, Allie, and numerous great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his step-children, Monique Angel (Jerry), Olathe, and Tyson Barnes, Yuma, Arizonia, Swede was also preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Brenda Anderson and a son, Cap Anderson, and a grandson, Ryan.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, December 10, 2021, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newbury. Father Swamy Nannam will be the Celebrant. Larry was born January 16, 1956, in Pine Bluff, AR, the son of Willie Frank and Thelma E. (Riggins) Mooney. Larry served in the United States Army. He was a Armor and Training NCO. He was awarded the ARCOM Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Expert M16 Rifle Medal. He also served intermittently as a first sergeant at the end of his career. He later worked as a correctional officer at the North Central Kansas Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Junction City, KS. Larry became a martial artist as a young man. He was a member of Faith Tabernacle Apostolic Church. His pastor and church family was very important to him. Larry enjoyed art, listening to music and fishing with his wife Rene. He taught his grandchildren his favorite song titled "All The Way". Larry enjoyed phone calls specifically with Shakyra, Samuel, Larry his mother, siblings and his wife's family (Wayne, Tracey and Sandy). He also enjoyed entertaining his close friends at home. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and the Fraternal Order of the Eagle's. On April 23, 1983, he married Barbara Plume. They began their life journey together including several trips traveling on a motorcycle across the United States. Survivors include his wife Barbara of the home in Junction City, KS; one son, James Scott of Junction City, KS; one brother, Johnny Shull of Pawhuska, OK; two sisters, Gracie Jophlin of Kansas City, MO and Edna Joe Gray of Tulsa, OK; two grandchildren, James B. Jennifer "Jenni" Elizabeth Kohlmann

Lynn Ellis, age 69 of Riley, passed away Thursday, November 25, 2021 at the Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan.



He was born on August 24, 1952 in Montezuma, the son of Joe and Ina Marie (Sanders) Ellis.

On July 22, 1972 in Cimarron, he married Mary Lou Kruse.  She survives of the home.

Shortly after getting married he worked for Bittersweet Enterprises out of Keats, KS moving houses. &nbsp;He also pulled mobile homes for Guerdon industries. He enjoyed the challenge of pulling mobile homes over the Colorado passes. &nbsp;In 1985 he worked as an over the road truck driver for Steel and Pipe Supply Company. He later was a plumber for Bob’s Plumbing for 28 years until his retirement.&nbsp; He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene and enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren and reading The Bible.

Lynn fought a long battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis that began in 2008.  His strong faith in the Lord sustained him during that time, and the way he endured the disease was a testimony of his faith to all who knew him.  He continued to live a life of joy and purpose despite the limitations of his physical health.  The Lord blessed him with the gift of time after his diagnosis, although the reality was he shouldn’t have much left.  He was a “walking miracle” on this earth, and is now experiencing the miracle of salvation and life eternal with his Savior.



In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Brian Ellis and wife Michelle of Olsburg; one daughter, Dayna Robson and husband Andy of Bennington; his mother, Ina Ellis of Manhattan; five grandchildren, Preston and Averie Ellis and Silas, Austin and Sarah Robson; one sister, Sherry Duerfeldt and husband Dan of Manhattan; four brothers, Bob Ellis and wife Janie of Ardmore, Oklahoma, Darreld Ellis and wife Marilyn of Topeka, Terry Ellis and wife Polly of Overland Park and Rick Ellis and wife Shelle of Shawnee and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joe Ellis in 2015.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on December 9, 2021 at the First Church of the Nazarene in Manhattan with Pastor Pat Weyrauch officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m until service time at the church. Burial will be in the Sedalia Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to First Church of the Nazarene or Rejoice Radio. Contributions may be left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.

Betty passed away Monday, November 29, 2021 at the Salina Regional Health Center in Salina. She was born November 29, 1942 in Lawrence, Kansas the daughter of Edward E and Lucille (Creach) Machulda. She attended Abilene High School. She was united in marriage to Danny L. VanNess on February 7, 1963. They later divorced. Betty worked in the service industry, working at Highland Nursing Home in Abilene and retired from Enterprise Estates Nursing Center in Enterprise. Betty was a pet lover and enjoyed spending time with her dog Dixie and her cat Sammy. She was an avid KU Jayhawk fan and enjoyed watching KU basketball games and enjoyed feeding and watching the birds, planting and caring for her flowers she had outside. Nancy Kay Slattery, 64, of Abilene, Kansas passed away Tuesday November 30, 2021 at Memorial Hospital in Abilene, KS.

Born January 24, 1957, in Dodge City, Kansas she was the daughter of Ignatius “Niter” Strecker Slattery and Beatrice “Snooky” Ann Slattery. Nancy worked at the Ford County Appraiser’s office from 1993 – 2005 where she became the Ford County Appraiser. She married John Reiling on April 13, 1995 in Dodge City. She was a resident of Great Bend from 2006 – 2021. She collected Dreamsicles and various angel décor. She was known for her flowers and gardening, love of reading, baking, crocheting, bowling, shooting pool, and especially her love of animals. She took great pride in supporting the ASPCA.

She is preceded in death by her husband, John Reiling; both her parents, Ignatius and Beatrice Slattery; one sister, Kathy Slattery, and one nephew, Patrick James Slattery.

She is survived by four children; Tandy and husband Jason Boese of Abilene, Blake and wife Tracy Reiling of Kinsley, Megan Hinderliter of Dodge City, and Branagan Reiling of Kinsley; two brothers, Tim and wife LaRae Slattery of Wright, Pat and wife Rhonda Slattery of Kansas City, two sisters, Susie and husband Danny Campbell of Garden City, Lori and husband Kyle Litton of Ingalls, and eight grandchildren, Tiara Bollig, Alexis (Lexi) Hinderliter, Rylan Michael, Declan Zink, Kasey Boese, Ronnie Boese, Chelsea Boese, and Ashtyn Reiling.
