Dollie D. Toburen, age 93, of Waterville, passed away on Wednesday, March 9, 2022, at Blue Valley Senior Living in Blue Rapids.
Dollie was born on July 24, 1928, to John and Emma (Butler) Schilling. She graduated from high school in Marysville.
She was married to Donald Toburen on July 3, 1948, for 67 years until his death in 2016. They had three sons: Don, Jr., David and Denison “Denny”. She was a devoted caretaker for many years working at Marysville Community Hospital and the Blue Rapids Nursing Home.
Dollie was a member of the Waterville United Methodist Church. She was instrumental, along with Rachel Sanner, in bringing the Harvesters food truck to Waterville. She and Mel Bartz initiated and established the Veteran’s Wall in the Waterville Community Center.
Dollie was preceded in death by her husband Donald, a son Denny, an infant great grandson, Gavin Young and four siblings: Nellie Motsinger, Vina Newman, Mildred Buck and Albert (Bud) Schilling. She is survived by her sons Don “Sonny” and wife Cindy of Paola and David and wife Linda of Sierra Vista, Arizona, six grandchildren and five great grandchildren, as well as countless nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at the Waterville United Methodist Church with Pastor Berniece Ludlum officiating. Music is to include a pre-recorded song, “First Rose Of Spring” and congregational hymns of “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Amazing Grace". The musician is Beverly Hedke. The casket bearers are: Christopher Toburen, Dustin Toburen, Aden Young, Braden Osterdyk, Brad Roepke and Bob Livergood. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Waterville.
