MANHATTAN, Kansas –&nbsp;Kansas State Athletics, in conjunction with university and county medical officials, has announced it has paused all women's basketball activities following the most recent COVID-19 test results and contact tracing procedures.

As a result, K-State's upcoming games at Oklahoma on Saturday, January 2, and the home game on Tuesday, January 5, against West Virginia, have been postponed. The Big 12 Conference will work with the three programs to reschedule the games for later in the season.

MANHATTAN, Kan.&nbsp;–&nbsp;<a>One of the top young players in the nation, Kansas State running back&nbsp;Deuce Vaughn&nbsp;has been named the True Freshman of the Year by 247Sports and to the organization’s True Freshman All-America team, the outlet announced Wednesday.</a>

This year marks the sixth season that 247Sports has named a True Freshman of the Year. Previous winners include LSU cornerback Derek Stingley (2019), Purdue wide receiver Rondale Moore (2018), Wisconsin running back Jonathan Taylor (2017), Houston defensive tackle Ed Oliver (2016) and Alabama wide receiver Calvin Ridley (2015).

In 10 games this season, Vaughn collected 1,221 all-purpose yards, including a K-State freshman record 642 rushing yards, and he totaled nine touchdowns. The Round Rock, Texas, native also tallied a team-leading 434 receiving yards as he ended the regular season as one of two players in the nation to record at least 600 rushing yards and 400 receiving yards (Clemson’s Travis Etienne).

Vaughn, who is also one of seven semifinalists for the Shaun Alexander-FWAA Freshman of the Year award, was named the Big 12 Offensive Freshman of the Year by the league’s coaches and a Second Team All-Big 12 performer by both the coaches and the Associated Press. The Associated Press announced Wednesday that Coastal Carolina Head Football Coach Jamey Chadwell has been named the AP Coach of the Year.

Chadwell received 16 first-place votes from the AP Top 25 panel and 88 points in total, finishing ahead of Indiana's Tom Allen and Cincinnati's Luke Fickell.

MANHATTAN, Kan.&nbsp;– K-State head volleyball coach&nbsp;Suzie Fritz&nbsp;has partnered with Big 12 volleyball coaches to launch Reach &amp; Teach: Big 12 Volleyball Diversity Mentoring Program, a conference-wide initiative designed to empower and support ethnic minority and underrepresented coaches in the sport.

The mission of the program is to offer empowerment, inclusion and support to minority coaches who aspire to coach at the collegiate level. The program seeks to open doors and connect an underrecognized group of coaches to every Big 12 program to offer insight, promote a comprehensive network, spread knowledge of the game and create more diversity within the profession.

“This is a great opportunity for the volleyball community to unite in support of a more diverse cultural environment,” said Fritz. “I’m proud to be part of a collective group of Big 12 coaches that welcome the opportunity to grow our sport in a proactive and inclusive manner. We want our message to say, loud and clear, that all are welcome to thrive here.”

Over a nine-week span scheduled to begin February 3, each Big 12 program will host participants in a 45-minute virtual networking and educational session during its designated week. Big 12 Volleyball Coaches Launch Reach & Teach

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Kansas State's holiday break ended Tuesday night in Manhattan when the Wildcats welcomed in the Omaha Mavericks to close out the 2020 portion of their schedule.

In a back and forth affair, the Wildcats found themselves trailing in the closing seconds to the previously 2-7 Mavericks.

“Obviously it’s time for giving, and I love Christmas. I’m kind of old school, watching AMC movies and Hallmark. I wrap presents and love to play Santa and give to our grandkids," said Kansas State Head Coach Bruce Weber. "I don’t expect much, but definitely got a nice Christmas gift tonight with a tough, hard fought win that I’m not sure we deserved to win. We made some plays when it counted, got some stops when it counted."

Freshman Guard Selton Miguel shot just 3-for-14 from the field in the game, but made without question the biggest shot of his young K-State career in a corner three with just nine seconds remaining.&nbsp;

“I know I missed a lot of three’s and I missed a lot of layups but Coach Weber, like I said before just kept saying, ‘Keep shooting, keep shooting’. If you’re open, try to attack the rim, try to get fouled, try to get points to help the team. So we just kept doing this even though I missed a lot of shots," said Miguel.

In a game that featured nine ties and nine lead changes, a young Kansas State team found a way to win against a much older, battle-tested, Omaha team.&nbsp;

The Mavericks entered with just two wins, but had faced challenging opponents such as #3 Kansas, #9 Creighton, Drake, and Colorado.&nbsp;

"I think we got a little bit tight at a couple points but we kept being positive in the huddles and saying, ‘Make plays, don’t be afraid to lose, play to win’," said Weber. "And we got some stops and made some plays when it counted.”

The Wildcats have now won four out of their last five contests dating back to their loss to Division II Fort Hays State, and will carry that momentum back into Big 12 play when they host the TCU Horned Frogs on Saturday, January 2 at 1 p.m. inside Bramlage Coliseum.&nbsp;

“We needed this win because now it’s going to get real with playing conference games and everything. We needed this win so we can go to TCU and get another win," said Miguel.

The Kansas City Royals announced Tuesday that they have signed right-handed pitcher Ervin Santana to a minor league contract.

The 38-year old right-hander pitched for the Royals in 2013, winning nine games with a 3.24 ERA in 211 innings.

Santana last pitched in the big leagues in 2019, making three starts for the Chicago White Sox with a 9.45 ERA. He was an All-Star as recently as 2017, winning 16 games for the Minnesota Twins with a 3.28 ERA.

Santana has spent parts of 15 seasons in the majors, winning 149 games with a 4.09 ERA for the Angels, Royals, Braves, Twins and White Sox.

Kansas sophomore Christian Braun was named the men’s basketball Big 12 Player of the Week on Monday. The award is selected by a media panel that covers the Big 12.

This is the first Big 12 weekly honor for Kansas this season.

In No. 3 Kansas’ 79-65 win against No. 7 West Virginia on Dec. 22, Braun scored 22 points, including 6-of-12 from 3-point range. The Burlington, Kansas, guard poured in 14 of his 22 points in the second half, including four treys. It was Braun’s second-most points scored this season, and he also posted a career-high seven assists with four rebounds against the Mountaineers.

Braun averages 11.9 points and 5.9 rebounds per game this season. His 22 3-pointers are second most on the team behind junior Ochai Agbaji’s 24 treys. Braun’s 2.4 3-pointers made per game rank fifth in the Big 12 and his 5.9 rebounds per game average are 15th. He is also 11th in the conference in steals at 1.3 per contest.

MANHATTAN, Kan.&nbsp;–&nbsp;<a>Kansas State defensive linemen&nbsp;Wyatt Hubert&nbsp;and&nbsp;Drew Wiley, in addition to running back&nbsp;Deuce Vaughn, have been named to the Associated Press All-Big 12 teams, the organization announced Thursday.</a>

Hubert was named to the first team by the AP for a second-straight year, while Wiley and Vaughn were each second-team performers. Vaughn was listed twice on the second team, both as a running back and as an all-purpose player. He is one of just three Wildcat since 2013 to be named an All-Big 12 performer by the Associated Press at two positions in the same season, joining Tyler Lockett (2013 and 2014) and D.J. Reed (2017).

A product of Topeka, Kansas, Hubert is ranked third in the Big 12 and 16th&nbsp;nationally with 8.5 sacks, while he is fifth in the league in tackles for loss with 13.0. Having declared for the NFL Draft, Hubert finished his time in Manhattan tied for eighth in school history in career sacks with 20.0.

A first-time starter in 2020, Wiley put together his best season as a Wildcat with 24 tackles, 9.0 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks. A senior, Wiley is tied for 10th&nbsp;in the Big 12 in sacks and 13th&nbsp;in tackles for loss. His totals behind the line were the most by a Wildcat interior defensive lineman since 2017.

A native of Round Rock, Texas, Vaughn set four K-State freshman records, including rushing yards (642) and all-purpose yards (1,221) as he is third in the Big 12 in both categories. He is one of just two players in the nation to tally at least 600 rushing yards and 400 receiving yards this season, the other being Clemson senior running back Travis Etienne.

One of three true freshmen to be named a semifinalist for the award, Vaughn is the first Wildcat to be in the running for the honor that is in its third year of existence. Joining Vaughn on this year’s list is Oklahoma quarterback Spencer Rattler, Coastal Carolina quarterback Grayson McCall, Notre Dame running back Kyren Williams, Alabama linebacker Will Anderson Jr., Northwestern defensive back Brandon Joseph and LSU defensive back Eli Ricks.

Vaughn, a product of Round Rock, Texas, burst onto the scene in 2020 as he reset four K-State freshman marks, including rushing yards (642) and all-purpose yards (1,221). He ranks second nationally among freshmen in all-purpose yards and yards from scrimmage (1,076).

His inclusion on the Shaun Alexander-FWAA Freshman of the Year semifinalist list adds to Vaughn’s impressive resume. Last week he was named the Big 12 Offensive Freshman of the Year and a Second Team All-Big 12 performer by the league’s coaches. K-State's Vaughn named semifinalist for FWAA Freshman of the Year

MANHATTAN, Kan.&nbsp;– Game times and television designations for the remainder of Kansas State’s Big 12 men’s basketball schedule have been set, including the upcoming home game with TCU on Saturday, January 2, 2021.

The Wildcats and Horned Frogs will tip at 1 p.m., CT on ESPNU, which will be the start of 16 scheduled conference games in January and February. K-State opened Big 12 play in mid-December by splitting games on the road at Iowa State and at home with No. 2/2 Baylor. The games were the earliest ever played in conference play.

Other home game times announced included Oklahoma State tipping at 5 p.m., CT on Saturday, January 9 on ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU, Iowa State at 6 p.m., CT on Wednesday, January 13 on ESPNU, West Virginia at either 1 or 3 p.m., CT on Saturday, January 23 on ESPN2 or ESPNU, Texas Tech at 3 p.m., CT on Saturday, February 6 on Big 12 Now on ESPN+, Texas at 7 p.m., CT on Tuesday, February 9 on Big 12 Now on ESPN+, Kansas at 8 p.m., CT on Tuesday, February 16 on ESPN or ESPN2 and Oklahoma at 8 p.m., CT on Tuesday, February 23 on ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU.

MANHATTAN, Kan. — In a rare Monday afternoon tilt, Kansas State handled the Jacksonville Dolphins with relative ease, bouncing back from a blowout loss to 2nd-ranked Baylor over the Weekend.&nbsp;

Sophomore Dajuan Gordon tallied 13 points and 12 rebounds for his second career double double and second in the last three games.&nbsp;

“He’s a year older, more experienced, understanding who he is, and just playing hard. I was really happy for him. He’s been a sad puppy because he has worked on his shot, but he hasn’t made shots. He knows it," said Bruce Weber. "Yesterday in practice with the scout squad they were giving him heck and not guarding him and he was still missing. I was happy he got to make some shots. I told him ‘Whether you make shots or not, you can help our team. Because of what you do and how hard you play, you’re successful.’"

Freshman Nijel Pack added a career-high 16 points on 4-6 shooting from three-point range, while also adding five assists.&nbsp;

“Having some confidence when seeing the ball go through the net, pretty much gives everyone confidence," said Pack. "My teammates kept finding me which fed my confidence. They kept going in and that really boosted my confidence to keep going and shoot a couple more.”

Mike McGuirl added to the scoring with 12 of his own, adding seven more assists, three rebounds and two steals.&nbsp;

The all-around effort lead the Wildcats to a 19 point advantage at the break and they would coast from there.&nbsp;

In a game in which they never trailed,&nbsp; Kansas State snagged a 70-46 win, their fourth of the season, bringing their record to 4-5 overall. Kansas State will be in action on Tuesday, December 29 at 7 p.m. when they host the Omaha Mavericks. to wrap up the 2020 portion of their campaign.

MANHATTAN, Kan.&nbsp;–&nbsp;<a>A year after setting a program record, Kansas State football reset that mark with 33 Academic All-Big 12 honorees – including a school-record 27 first-team members – as the conference office announced the 275-member Academic All-Big 12 teams on Thursday.</a>

K-State’s 33 total honors were the sixth most in conference history and the third-highest total this season. Since 2014, K-State has tallied 200 total Academic All-Big 12 accolades, which is 31 more than the next closest program (Oklahoma State, 169).

Headlining this year’s list were two Wildcats that were nominated with a 4.0 GPA in senior&nbsp;Brock Monty&nbsp;(Graduate School – Business Administration) and redshirt freshman&nbsp;Austin Moore&nbsp;(Kinesiology).

Nominated by each institution’s director of student-athlete support services, the 2020 football academic all-league squad is comprised of 189 first-team members combined with 86 on the second team. First-team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, and the second team are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.

To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20% of their team’s scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.

LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) — Ochai Agbaji made the go-ahead layup with 13 seconds left and finished with 23 points as No. 5 Kansas beat No. 14 Texas Tech 58-57. 

The win was the 30th in a row for the Jayhawks in a conference opener. Agbaji made four 3-pointers but got the game-winning points for the 7-1 Jayhawks when he worked inside and took an inbound pass from Marcus Garrett. Texas Tech had one more chance, but Terrence Shannon's mid-range jumper was blocked by Jalen Wilson to end the game. Shannon had 20 points with four 3s for the 6-2 Red Raiders, while Mac McClung had 21 points.
