Charles Vincent Fechter, age 103 was born in McAllen Texas, on January 19, 1919, to Arthur H &amp; Julia E Picolet Fechter. At six weeks old the family moved back to the Wamego area. He attended school there and at Saint George. He was a farmhand and worked for the UPRR. At the outbreak of World War II, he was attending KSC and enlisted in the US Army Air Corps. April 2, 1942. In addition to the Stateside, he served in Italy Sardinia, Corsica, France, and Australia.

Discharged on November 1, 1945, he went to work for Balderson, then to the Topeka Army airbase until it closed. Back in Wamego again he worked for a couple of different auto dealerships. In 1951 he moved to Wichita to work for the Boeing company, building B47 and B52 bombers. As a crew leader and troubleshooter, he was sent to various airbases across the country.

Seeking a change in 1961 he left the Boeing Co. and joined a partner in rebuilding and restoring storm accident damage to private aircrafts. In 1963 he moved to the milder climate of Eugene Oregon, where he purchased rental properties and did remodeling and handyman work for 20 years.

He enjoyed many hours crabbing, and fishing for trout and salmon with friends. He loved ice fishing in Minnesota and shrimping in Florida with his cousin. He retired back to Wamego in 1983. He traveled extensively throughout the US touching 45 states.

Vince was a licensed pilot and owned his own plane for several years.

He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, 17th bomb GS association B26 marauders, history society, and Saint Bernards Catholic Church of Wamego.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Edith Torrey; and three brothers, Harold who was killed in action in Italy during World War II, Victor Fechter and Arthur Dean Fechter.

He is survived by a brother, Larry Fechter; and many nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday morning (June 22, 2022) at 10:30 a.m. at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Wamego, Kansas with Father Mike Peterson officiating. &nbsp;Burial will follow at St. Bernard Catholic Cemetery.

Fern Louise Worthing, 94, of Wamego, Kansas, passed away on Thursday (June 16, 2022) at Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan.

&nbsp;Fern was born in a rural home near Louisville to Clifford and Margaret (Schumacher) Julien on April 19, 1928. &nbsp;She married Kenneth Ray Worthing on March 29, 1949 in Wamego. He preceded her in death on December 11, 2003.

&nbsp;She attended local schools in Pottawatomie County and graduated from Wamego High School. &nbsp;She then enrolled at Kansas State University for the summer and received a teaching certificate. &nbsp;She taught one year at Gasser School, a rural Pottawatomie County school, located&nbsp;between Louisville and Flush. &nbsp;Fern then worked at Hallmark in Topeka until her marriage to Kenneth. &nbsp;As a farmer’s wife Fern drove the grain truck, milked the cows, planted a large garden and raised her family. After her children were raised Fern drove a kindergarten route for&nbsp;USD 320.

Fern was a lifelong resident of Pottawatomie County. She was a member of the Louisville United Methodist, a 70 year member of&nbsp;EHU/FCE of Pottawatomie County, and for several years, a leader of the Tannerville 4-H Club located in the community of&nbsp;Laclede, KS.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda Cottrell of Wamego; a son, Gordon Worthing and his wife Kim of Lyndon, KS; a daughter in law, Cindy Worthing of Wamego; seven grandchildren, Tambria Pfannenstiel and her husband, Mark, Christina Bruton and her husband, Tim, Sara Middleton and her husband, Ryan, Brian Cottrell, Ross Worthing and his wife, Mindy, Caroline Thomas and her husband, Henry and Francie Worthing with Jamison Tevis; ten great grandchildren, Jenny, Gracie, Chloe, Gavin, Taylor, Trent, Rhia, Atlee, Zahra and Hank; and several nieces and nephews.

Fern was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kenneth; her oldest son, CR Worthing; four sisters, Norma Yonning, Ruth Eichman, Helen Koppenheffer and Dolores Michaelis; &nbsp;and one brother, Dean Julien

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 20 at 10:30 a.m. in the Campanella &amp; Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego with Rev. Leslye Haller officiating.&nbsp; Burial will be in the Wamego City Cemetery.

Lois "Jane" Roberts, 89, Junction City, KS, passed away June 9, 2022, at her home in Junction City. Cremation has taken place. A funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 20, 2022, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with Fr. Gnanasekar Kulandai officiating. Jane was born September 22, 1932 in Marysville, KS, the daughter of Leo and Ursula (Eckart) Johnson. She married Eugene “Gene” Roberts May 2, 1952 in Hanover, KS. They moved to Junction City in 1956, where they raised their seven children. Jane worked for the Fabric Shop in Junction City for many years. She was known as an exemplary seamstress in the Junction City community.&nbsp; Jane also worked in the floral department at Dillons Grocery Store. She did countless hours of volunteer work for the Geary Community Hospital and the Geary Community Healthcare Foundation. Most recently, she sewed dresses for young girls in Africa. She was a devoted member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and enjoyed spending time at the Geary County Senior Center, playing games and connecting with friends. She was also known for wearing heels well into her 80s. Her fashion sense and homemade pies will be missed by many. A grandmother of five and adopted grandmother by many, Jane loved watching youth sports. She was most proud of seeing all her grandchildren graduate college. Survivors include two sons; James "Jim" Roberts of Kansas City, MO and William "Bill" Roberts (Mana) of Huntsville TX; five daughters, Beth Reggiannini (Robert) of Melbourne, FL, Deborah "Deb" LaHolt (Ron) of Lincoln, NE, Mary Macklin of Kansas City, MO, Janel Roberts and Sally Hamby (Lee) of Tampa, FL; five grandchildren, Dr. Morgan LaHolt (Nicole), Spencer E. Helen Marie (Eaken) Miller, age 90, of Blue Rapids, Kansas, went home to be with Jesus on&nbsp;Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at Blue Valley Senior Living in Blue Rapids.

Helen was born,&nbsp;March 18, 1932, to Lester and Viola Eaken just outside Richland, Missouri. The Eakens later moved to Blue Rapids when Helen was in High School. It was there she met her future husband Howard Paul Miller also of Blue Rapids. They were married&nbsp;February 24, 1952.

Howard served in the US Air Force in New Mexico where Helen joined him. Helen gave birth to their first child there. The couple later moved to Alaska where they lived for the remainder of Howard’s military service.

They later moved back to Blue Rapids where they welcomed their second child. After several years of moving for Howard to work in construction and the railroad, they moved back to a farm Northeast of Blue Rapids, approximately a half mile south of his parents’ farm.&nbsp; There the family flourished and welcomed four more children.&nbsp; Later Helen and Howard moved into his parent’s farmhouse.&nbsp;

Helen was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Blue Rapids where she served many roles including&nbsp;Sunday&nbsp;School teacher, women’s groups, Bible School and more.&nbsp; Some of Helen’s favorite activities included sewing, cooking, gardening and serving her church.

She partnered with her husband on the farm, northwest of Blue Rapids, by gardening, helping with livestock, and more. Later the two joined in a small contracting and decorating business.&nbsp; She encouraged her children in music, sports and their lives in Christ Jesus. She served as sewing leader in the children’s 4H group.

Helen is survived by six children: Clifford (Debra) Miller of Blue Rapids, Glenda (Joel) Fralin of Wymore, Nebraska, Paula (Greg) Rhoades of Marquett, Nebraska, Janet (Alan) Riensche of Blue Springs, Nebraska, Lyle Miller of Grandview, Missouri, and Viola (Rick) Thomas of Seattle, Washington. She has fourteen grandchildren: Brian, Anna, Travis, Angela, Tony, Nina, Michael, Jonathan, Ryan, Sean, Tara, Nolan, Faith and Sara and their spouses. She is also survived by twenty-four great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband Howard P. Miller, parents Lester and Viola Eaken, a brother Paul Eaken, a sister Geraldine Keefover, two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and one daughter-in-law Kathy Miller.

Jacob Clement “Papa” Pizarek, 99, of rural Wamego, Kansas, formerly of rural LaPorte, Indiana, went to Heaven on Trinity Sunday, June 12, 2022 at home with the comfort of his family.

Jacob, referred to as “Jake” by many, was born at home on the family farm just outside of Michigan City, Indiana joining 3 older brothers and 2 older sisters, with 2 younger sisters and 1 younger brother to join them. He attended St Mary of the Immaculate Conception Grade School, completing 8 th Grade. Even though his Catholic religious beliefs have always been a key part of his life, he was more interested in being outside doing farm work and enjoying nature, rather than being in school.

As a boy, Jake enjoyed actively helping on the family farm in the fields and with livestock, in earlier years they took milk to town from their dairy cows to the local company, and peddled eggs. He took care of the chickens, raised rabbits for meat, and loved working with and riding horses. He enjoyed growing up in simpler times when they were proud to be owners of some of the first cars to be used for transportation. He told many fond stories about riding a “streetcar” to school, then driving his Mother around in the car as early as 12 years old!

Jake was drafted in the Army in 1943 and sent to Camp Carson Colorado for Basic Training, but discharged before completion and sent home, as his father died unexpectedly. In 1944, he was called back to serve by being sent to Fort Sill Oklahoma to retake Basic Training. He always joked about how much fun it was that time, as he knew what was coming next in the training, so could answer the questions and do well. He was sent to Italy during World War II serving in the 10 th Mountain Division Mule Pack Field Artillery, and was so proud to have been in the 10th Mountain with Bob Dole, who later became Senator in Kansas. Jacob told the story to everyone about how he saw Bob Dole being carried off the field when he had been hit by enemy fire, and always added, “I said a prayer for him.” He was extremely excited when he got to meet and visit with Senator Dole in 2015 while participating in Chicago Honor Flight to Washington, DC. While on the trip, Jacob was overwhelmed with exhaustion from all the&nbsp; festivities and was hospitalized, and another highlight in his memory was that Senator Dole called him on the phone to check on him. In December 2021, Jacob was given front row seating at the Memorial Service for Senator Bob Dole in the Topeka Capitol, and met Elizabeth Dole after it, being given a special coin as a remembrance.

After discharging from the Army in 1946, he drove a school bus on which there was a Senior girl with whom he had an interest. She was someone whom he had known since her birth, since their fathers were really good friends. He loved to tell the story about how one day when he was about 10 and she was about 4, his Dad said,“Go over there and sit on that log next to her, as you might marry her someday.” On April 24, 1948 Jacob married Janet Louise Herrbach at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church in Michigan City, Indiana. Jacob received several other Sacraments there - Baptism, 1 st Holy Communion, Confirmation being given the name Patrick, and he was a Server at Mass. He used to talk extensively about how his Great Grandfather had been one of the Founding Fathers of the Church helping to build it when he came here from Europe. He was proud to have his 2 children attend 12 years of Catholic education there. In later years he joined Queen of All Saints Catholic Parish in Michigan City. Jacob was dedicated in always participating at Sunday Mass, only missing when he was sick. He also enjoyed the Parishes of Seven Dolors and St. Isidore’s Catholic Student Center in Manhattan, Kansas.

Jake was a member of Coolspring Township Farm Bureau, and the Catholic Order of Foresters. He very much enjoyed the LaPorte County Fair, taking vacation that week each year to spend with his daughter, Cherie, helping her wash her steers at 5 AM getting them ready for the 4-H Beef Show, even sleeping in the back of the truck or van at the Fair. He loved gardening and growing vegetables. “Papa” was a fun-loving cheerful man who enjoyed playing all kinds of card games, especially pinochle. He loved all kinds of animals. “Papa” never knew a stranger, and loved to talk to anyone. He loved to dance, especially the “Polka” or as he called it “Polish Hop.”

During their early married life, Jacob with Janet and their young son “Tommy”, travelled the country taking jobs mostly on Dairy Farms in New Mexico, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, and then back in Indiana. Jacob worked in construction jobs, talking about how he helped build a big church on Valparaiso University, then he became a plumber, before eventually working as Maintenance Man fixing all the machines when they would break, in Appleton Factory, then 23 years at Dwyer Instruments, both at Michigan City. He was retired for 36 years, and was elated to be able to attend the Dwyer Christmas Party with his daughter in 2019.

Jacob led a full life, gardening and puttering around on his John Deere lawn tractor until only 2 years ago. Due to declining health, he and Janet moved to Wamego, Kansas to be cared for by his son-in-law and daughter in November 2020. “Papa” always had a goal to live to be 100 and be married 75 years – he was less than 1 year from reaching those goals. He was excited that he probably was the oldest living male in all of his known family and relatives. When his health was faltering in these last couple months, a 99 Birthday Celebration was planned in May, complete with a Parade of Veteran motorcycles and cars filled with Accord Hospice employees, thanks to the Manhattan American Legion. A special thank you to Father Gale Hammerschmidt for giving him comfort recently with Last Rights.

Jacob Clement “Papa” Pizarek, 99, of rural Wamego, Kansas, formerly of rural LaPorte, Indiana, went to Heaven on Trinity Sunday, June 12, 2022 at home with the comfort of his family.Jacob, referred to as “Jake” by many, was born at home on the family farm just outside of Michigan City, Indiana joining 3 older brothers and 2 older sisters, with 2 younger sisters and 1 younger brother to join them. He attended St Mary of the Immaculate Conception Grade School, completing 8 th Grade. Even though his Catholic religious beliefs have always been a key part of his life, he was more interested in being outside doing farm work and enjoying nature, rather than being in school.As a boy, Jake enjoyed actively helping on the family farm in the fields and with livestock, in earlier years they took milk to town from their dairy cows to the local company, and peddled eggs. He took care of the chickens, raised rabbits for meat, and loved working with and riding horses. He enjoyed growing up in simpler times when they were proud to be owners of some of the first cars to be used for transportation. He told many fond stories about riding a “streetcar” to school, then driving his Mother around in the car as early as 12 years old!Jake was drafted in the Army in 1943 and sent to Camp Carson Colorado for Basic Training, but discharged before completion and sent home, as his father died unexpectedly. In 1944, he was called back to serve by being sent to Fort Sill Oklahoma to retake Basic Training. He always joked about how much fun it was that time, as he knew what was coming next in the training, so could answer the questions and do well. He was sent to Italy during World War II serving in the 10 th Mountain Division Mule Pack Field Artillery, and was so proud to have been in the 10th Mountain with Bob Dole, who later became Senator in Kansas. Jacob told the story to everyone about how he saw Bob Dole being carried off the field when he had been hit by enemy fire, and always added, “I said a prayer for him.” He was extremely excited when he got to meet and visit with Senator Dole in 2015 while participating in Chicago Honor Flight to Washington, DC. While on the trip, Jacob was overwhelmed with exhaustion from all the&nbsp; festivities and was hospitalized, and another highlight in his memory was that Senator Dole called him on the phone to check on him. In December 2021, Jacob was given front row seating at the Memorial Service for Senator Bob Dole in the Topeka Capitol, and met Elizabeth Dole after it, being given a special coin as a remembrance. After discharging from the Army in 1946, he drove a school bus on which there was a Senior girl with whom he had an interest. She was someone whom he had known since her birth, since their fathers were really good friends. He loved to tell the story about how one day when he was about 10 and she was about 4, his Dad said,“Go over there and sit on that log next to her, as you might marry her someday.” On April 24, 1948 Jacob married Janet Louise Herrbach at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church in Michigan City, Indiana. Jacob received several other Sacraments there - Baptism, 1 st Holy Communion, Confirmation being given the name Patrick, and he was a Server at Mass. He used to talk extensively about how his Great Grandfather had been one of the Founding Fathers of the Church helping to build it when he came here from Europe. He was proud to have his 2 children attend 12 years of Catholic education there. In later years he joined Queen of All Saints Catholic Parish in Michigan City. Jacob was dedicated in always participating at Sunday Mass, only missing when he was sick. He also enjoyed the Parishes of Seven Dolors and St. Isidore’s Catholic Student Center in Manhattan, Kansas.Jake was a member of Coolspring Township Farm Bureau, and the Catholic Order of Foresters. He very much enjoyed the LaPorte County Fair, taking vacation that week each year to spend with his daughter, Cherie, helping her wash her steers at 5 AM getting them ready for the 4-H Beef Show, even sleeping in the back of the truck or van at the Fair. He loved gardening and growing vegetables. “Papa” was a fun-loving cheerful man who enjoyed playing all kinds of card games, especially pinochle. He loved all kinds of animals. “Papa” never knew a stranger, and loved to talk to anyone. He loved to dance, especially the “Polka” or as he called it “Polish Hop.” During their early married life, Jacob with Janet and their young son “Tommy”, travelled the country taking jobs mostly on Dairy Farms in New Mexico, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, and then back in Indiana. Jacob worked in construction jobs, talking about how he helped build a big church on Valparaiso University, then he became a plumber, before eventually working as Maintenance Man fixing all the machines when they would break, in Appleton Factory, then 23 years at Dwyer Instruments, both at Michigan City. He was retired for 36 years, and was elated to be able to attend the Dwyer Christmas Party with his daughter in 2019. &nbsp;Travis M. Smith, age 44, of Ogden, Kansas, died Wednesday June 15, 2022 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan. Celebration of life gathering will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday June 22, 2022 at the Ogden Community Center, 220 Willow Street in Ogden.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Dwight Harold Greenough of Abilene, KS passed away on June 13, 2022 at the age of 88.

Dwight was born on July 14, 1933 near Talmage on the family farm to the son of Tom and Eva (Smith) Greenough.&nbsp; He attended Center Grade School, a one room school walking to and from with his sisters. At night using a kerosene lamp he learned to read and write as was common in the country. He grew up in the dirty thirty’s when times were hard and during WWII using ration stamps. He graduated from Chapman High School in 1951 meeting and marrying his high school sweetheart Sharolyn Burjes.

He owned Greenough Body Shop and Wrecker Service for over 60 years repairing vehicles and operating the towing service along South Buckeye. He could always be spotted driving one of the wreckers.&nbsp; Dwight especially enjoyed running the wrecker service being called out all hours and in all types of weather. He towed just about every kind of vehicle on the road including cars, tractors, trucks and semis. Recovery work included unloading trailers and up righting them back on to their wheels. He helped save many lives as there were times when the wrecker was used to lift vehicles during a rescue. He also told of stories of helping people with little money by not charging them for towing and repairs. Dwight was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Elks Lodge, in Abilene. He and Sharolyn delivered Meals on Wheels, and he was a volunteer fireman. He also enjoyed playing golf, boating and camping and going to casinos.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Dale and two sisters Maxine Meehan and Kathleen Suetter. He is survived by his wife Sharolyn, his three sons Dee (Diane) of Abilene, Jay (Cheryl) of Lenexa, KS, Jon (Valerie) of Platte City, MO. Grand children include Angela, Dustin, Lauren, Morgan, Clint and Chelsea, and thirteen great grandchildren. He is survived by two sisters: Shirley Spidell and Marilyn Emerson as well as several nieces and nephews, friends.

Services for Dwight will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 18, 2022 at the Mt. Hope Cemetery near Enterprise with Pastor Lindsey Brummer officiating. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 5:00-6:30 p.m. pm at the Danner Funeral Home. Sandra&nbsp;"Sandy" Sue (Kelsey) Dickens age 79, a resident of Prattville, AL formally of Wamego passed away on Monday, January 17, 2022, at a local hospital.

Sandy was born on November 18, 1942, the daughter of George Henry Kelsey &amp; Ethel Fern Halderman. She attended Wamego City High School. She later attended cosmetology school and worked as a beautician in Topeka.

Sandy married Michael Dickens in Topeka, KS on September 23, 1961, he preceded her in death on November 27, 2003. Three children were born to this union, Sean Dickens and Dawn White. The family resided in Bourbon, MO where she devoted her time to her family as a homemaker. Mike and Sandy later retired in Millbrook, AL. After Mike's passing Sandy worked at a daycare where she enjoyed her babies, and everyone called her “Granny Sandy”.

She was an avid Nascar fan (Dale Jr.) and enjoyed playing cards. She most enjoyed traveling. She traveled to the Netherlands to see the tulips. She was a member of Centerpoint Church of Millbrook, AL.

Sandy is survived by her son Sean Dickens (Cyndy), daughter Dawn White (Patrick), brothers Robert Kelsey (Sharon), Jim Kelsey (Theresa), uncle, Bill Halderman, brother-in-law, Larry Jacobson, four grandchildren, Gayle Kleinschritz (David), Travis Dickens, Rachel Barker (Josh), and Christopher White, and two great-grandchildren, Kylee and James. Thomas Ryan Day, 37, of Manhattan, formerly of St. George, Kansas, died Friday, June 10, 2022, in Topeka. He was a life-long resident of the area.

Thomas was born on April 14, 1985, in Manhattan, the son of Micheal and Dawn (Brockopp) Day. He attended local schools and graduated from Rock Creek High School in 2003. He then attended Cloud County Community College and Highland Community College.

Thomas worked as a laborer for the Construction &amp; General Laborers Local Union 1290. He was trained in Asbestos abatement. Thomas had also worked at the Jeffrey Energy Center.

Thomas was always willing to help others and enjoyed remote controlled cars, boats, and drones. He particularly liked to have his yard and flower beds looking their best. He was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Wamego.

Thomas is survived by his father, Micheal Day (Ladonna Piper), St. George, Dawn Julian (Scott), Westmoreland; his aunts, Donna Edwards, Junction City, and Sue Brockopp, Duluth, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his brother Christopher Day in 2020.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 23, 2022, at Campanella &amp; Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego. Reverend Jim Price will be officiating. The family will greet friends prior to the service beginning at 9:00 a.m.&nbsp; A graveside committal will be held following the service at 12:30 p.m. in the Alta Vista Cemetery. Lucy Louise (Wege) Gifford, age 103, of Manhattan, Kansas, passed away Friday, June 10, 2022, in Bloomfield, Indiana.

She was born on September 28, 1918.&nbsp; Lucy was the daughter of Emil and Francis (Walters) Wege.&nbsp; She was a graduate of Fostoria, Kansas, High School.&nbsp; Lucy married Howard Gifford in&nbsp;July 1939, and they raised their 4 children on a farm in Southeast Kansas.

She worked for Kansas State University in food services and Home Health.

She enjoyed flowers and gardening and was devoted to her family. She was a member of the&nbsp;Seventh-Day Adventist Church&nbsp;in Manhattan.&nbsp;

Lucy is survived by 3 of 4 children: Beulah Ann Shipwash, Donald Dean Gifford and Carol Almeda Anderson, 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren, and 1 great- great-great-grandchild.&nbsp; Lucy was the second of 10 children who have all preceded her in death along with their spouses.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter (Ellen Louise Brown and husband Harold), one great-granddaughter (Ashley Toland), and one great-grandson ( Noah Shipwash).

Lucy Louise (Wege) Gifford, age 103, of Manhattan, Kansas, passed away Friday, June 10, 2022, in Bloomfield, Indiana.She was born on September 28, 1918.&nbsp; Lucy was the daughter of Emil and Francis (Walters) Wege.&nbsp; She was a graduate of Fostoria, Kansas, High School.&nbsp; Lucy married Howard Gifford in&nbsp;July 1939, and they raised their 4 children on a farm in Southeast Kansas.She worked for Kansas State University in food services and Home Health.She enjoyed flowers and gardening and was devoted to her family. Jeanie H. Ores left us on June 2nd, 2022, to “Go with the White Lights”. She was at peace and joins many of her loving family and friends in heaven.

Jeanie was born in Yuli, Taiwan on October 28, 1937, to a loving father, (Hua Lan Huang) and mother (Yuan Mei Chu); each passed many of their humanitarian and entrepreneurial qualities on to her. The oldest of 5, she was fiercely hardworking, determinedly self-reliant as well as kind, generous and caring.

She married Richard F. Ores, whom she met in Taipei; both worked at a US Army facility at the time. They proceeded to have 4 children: Karen, Kenny, Maribeth and Ricky. She will be missed terribly by all of her family including her 8 grandchildren: James, Eric and Jesse (Karen), Tristan (Kenny), Sam, Jacob and Zach (Maribeth) and Andrew (Rick). She is also survived by 8 wonderful great-grandchildren. She and Dick divorced but continued to be great friends and parents until his death (in May 2000).

She came to America as a young wife and mother and became a citizen of the United States within a few years. She has always been a true patriot and while she often longed for her hometown, she was proud and grateful to be in a country that provided the opportunity for a 48-year-old Asian lady to become a successful entrepreneur.

Jeanie later married Robert E. King who was also in the Army when they met. They shared trips to Florida to see Nascar races in Daytona; they were both huge fans! One of her recent favorite drivers was “Watermelon Man”. They also enjoyed Western Movies and Country Music. They took care of each other and loved one another until Bob’s death (Oct. 2020).

Most people met Mom in connection with Jeanie’s Lounge in Grandview Plaza, which she owned and operated for close to 40 years. She rarely missed a day at work, only taking off for special events for grandkids or for family holidays. She enjoyed her business and loved her “bar family” very much.

We’d like to thank those of you who during different times in her life have been there as friends, “handymen”; a shoulder to lean on or an ear to talk to; and those who supported her to continue her business until the age of 84!

A Celebration of Life will be held at Jeanie’s Lounge on Sunday, June 26, 2022 from noon-3pm. Please come by and share stories, pictures, and food (Potluck!) one more time! Let’s enjoy the memories!

Eugene “Harvey” Kalivoda passed away peacefully at age 97 on June 10th, 2022, at the Presbyterian Manor in Clay Center, Kansas. Harvey was born on May 24th, 1925, in Cuba, Kansas to Steve and Mary (Kauer) Kalivoda.

He was one of eight graduates from Cuba High School in 1943. Raised on a farm just outside of Cuba, he married Phyllis Morgison of Clifton, Kansas on March 26th, 1947, and moved to Clifton to be owner-manager of the Bi-Low Market IGA Store for 6 years. In 1950, he started with Northern Natural Gas Co. and then in 1966 he began a very successful career as an insurance agent with the Prudential Insurance Company. Retiring from Prudential in 1988, he continued his insurance business as an independent agent well into his 80’s.

Harvey was preceded in death by his wife Phyllis, older brother Vernon, and parents. Harvey is survived by his sons: Roger and wife Julie; Rod and wife Cindy; Greg and wife Shannon; 5 grandsons and 2 great-grandchildren.

He was a devoted husband of 68 years and a father who wanted the best for his family and friends over the years. As a charitable civic minded individual, he belonged to the local Lions Club, Elks Club, Clay Center Masonic Lodge #134, and a 32o&nbsp;Scottish Rite mason. One of his pleasures was marching in parades as part of the ISIS Temple Oriental Band of Salina, Kansas and banging on his gong.

The visitation will be held on Monday June 20th&nbsp;from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home in Clay Center.

Jean Baker, 82, a lifetime resident in ldana, Kansas was born August 15, 1939, in Clay Center the daughter of Millard Franklin “Pete” and Rachel “Irene” (Hine) Fyfe. She died June 9, 2022 in Topeka, KS.

She attended the ldana Grade School and Clay Center High School. Upon graduation, she worked for Elmer Anderson Law firm for 27 years. Jean then started her own business, Jean Baker Tax Service. She continued to work until 2019, maybe just once or twice a year, as she loved her work and the contact with friends.

In 1957 she married Robert Baker, they later divorced. To this union she had the joy of one daughter, Bobbi Jean.

Jean was a lifelong member of the ldana Presbyterian Church. She always believed she had her own reserved seat. It was her strong faith that carried her through her life.

She loved spending time with family and friends. The family vacation had become a highlight of the summer. She so treasured that time. Oh, how she loved playing cards and winning and that always included visiting and having good food. Jean was definitely a "pillar" of strength and support to her family and friends. She was a good listener but also didn't hesitate to offer advice.

Jean was a loving sister, mother, life partner, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend. She is survived by her partner and best friend of 47 years, Everett Burt. Also surviving are her three grandchildren-Scott Peterson, Spencer Peterson, Stacey Harding and husband Charles, six great grandchildren, three sisters- Karen Starkey, Janet Cyre, and Cheryl Hawkinson and husband Jon, nieces and nephews. She was proceeded in death by her daughter, Bobbi Jean Peterson, her parents, and beloved brother, Richard Fyfe.

&nbsp;Joanna Carolina (Mills) Clemence was born August 17, 1931 on the farmstead near Enterprise, Kansas to Joe and Cordelia ( Anderson ) Mills. Joanna graduated from Enterprise High School in 1949. She attended Kansas State University for one year. On July 9, 1950 she married Joe F. Clemence. She moved to their farm west of Abilene in a community called Sand Springs. They would have celebrated 72 years of marriage on July 9th. Joanna was a housewife, bookkeeper for the farm, and mother of four. She also followed Joe to the sale barns he had an investment in. She worked as a bookkeeper and cashier at the old Salina Livestock Sale Barn, the Council Grove Sale Barn, and the Herington Livestock Sale Barn, the Farmers and Ranchers Sale Barn, and Manhattan Livestock Sale Barn. When Joe purchased the Herington Feedlot known as Tri County Feed Yard, she worked as a bookkeeper in the office. On top of that she managed to taxi four kids around.

 Joanna was baptized and confirmed at the Enterprise Methodist Church. After she was married, she moved her membership to the First United Methodist Church in Abilene, Ks. She volunteered for the Red Cross and as a Gray Lady at the Abilene Memorial Hospital for 28 years and she helped in the ladies’ circle serving meals from the church’s kitchen. She participated in bible studies, the Crusade Sunday School Class, and many church activities. She loved to needlepoint, entertain friends and reading to grandchildren.

Joanna is survived by her husband, Joe, of the home, one daughter Teresa I. Clemence of Goodland, Ks., sons Bob and wife Theresa Ann of WaKeeney, Ks. Jon and wife Cecilia of Abilene, Ks. and Mike and wife Sandy of Abilene, Ks., a sister Kitty Dalton of Salina, Ks., seven grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, a baby sister Doris Jean (at one week), brother Leon, and granddaughter Nichole.

The rosary will be prayed at 9:30 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow the service at St. Marys Cemetery. Angelica was born December 18, 1951 in San Pedro Nonualco, El Salvador the daughter of Nicholas and Juana (Ventura) Romero. She was very well loved in her town. She was crowned Reina de San Pedro Nonualco several years. Angelica came to the United States in 1981 having settled in Brooklyn, NY. She was very well known for her cooking, specifically pupusas. She moved to Junction City, KS to live with her daughter Stephanie in 2008. Angelica enjoyed her walkabout walks all over Junction City. She walked everyday and had very specific destinations with specific stops. She was a very social person and popular where ever she lived. She married Jose Aleman November 15, 1982 in New York, NY. Survivors include her husband Jose of Bronx, NY; two daughters, Stephanie Hager of Junction City, KS and Jennifer Romero of Phoenix, AZ; eight grandchildren, Bethany, Matthew, Jayden, Jayla, Liam, Ava, Terrah and Nolan; one great-grandson, Kenai; two step-grandchildren, Allyson and Elena; three sisters, Maria Rubenia, Maria Esmeralda and Maria Olimpia; one brother, Jorge Romero. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Nicholas Aleman and one brother, Israel Romero.

Survivors include her husband Jose of Bronx, NY; two daughters, Stephanie Hager of Junction City, KS and Jennifer Romero of Phoenix, AZ; eight grandchildren, Bethany, Matthew, Jayden, Jayla, Liam, Ava, Terrah and Nolan; one great-grandson, Kenai; two step-grandchildren, Allyson and Elena; three sisters, Maria Rubenia, Maria Esmeralda and Maria Olimpia; one brother, Jorge Romero. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Nicholas Aleman and one brother, Israel Romero.

LaVona Jean (Bergstrom) Francis, age 85, was welcomed into her eternal home after a courageous battle with cancer.&nbsp; She passed away on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at her home in Manhattan, KS where she was surrounded by family.

She was born on May 15, 1937 to the parents of Walter and Elsie (Reed) Bergstrom.&nbsp; LaVona grew up on her family’s farm north of May Day, KS.

After graduating from Green High School, she joined the Women’s Army Corps and was stationed at Presidio of San Francisco, CA.

On December 24, 1955 at Parks Air Force Base in Oakland, CA, she married Norman Dean Francis.&nbsp; LaVona and Norman moved to Spokane, WA where Norman was stationed until he was honorably discharged from the Air Force.&nbsp; They then returned to Kansas where they shared 61 loving years together before he preceded her in death on August 29, 2017.

LaVona influenced many lives through various jobs and activities.&nbsp; Her employment endeavors included KP&amp;L, owning and operating Tuttle Creek Restaurant of Randolph, SRS, Kansas State University, and the KSU Foundation.

LaVona was actively involved in her community and volunteered much of her time helping and serving others.&nbsp; She was especially passionate about serving on the Board of Directors for the Leonardville Nursing Home.&nbsp; As a loyal member of the Randolph United Methodist Church, LaVona served as the Church Treasurer for many years, was active in the ladies’ UMW group, and participated in several other church activities.&nbsp; LaVona was also a longtime member of the VFW 1786 Auxiliary.&nbsp; In addition, she volunteered at the Riley County Senior Center and was involved with the Randolph Senior Center.

LaVona will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother (Gigi), and friend.&nbsp; She was a true matriarch who had a devout love for God, her husband, and her family.&nbsp; She walked in faith and service in everything that she did. &nbsp;

She is survived by five children, 13 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.&nbsp; Her surviving children are Cindy Friedrich (Curt), Russ Francis (Michelle), Terry Francis (Heidi), Tracy Smith, and Norm Francis, Jr. (Lashelle).&nbsp; Her surviving grandchildren and great-grandchildren include Candace (Friedrich) Stimmel (Jon and children Shane and Remi Jean), Whitney Francis, Clint Friedrich (Jillian and children Miles and Mia), Chelsea (Friedrich) Albrecht (Zach and daughters Harper and Lexi), Kylee (Francis) Rohleder (Sam and daughter Kamree), Lindsay Francis, Callie (Friedrich) Lehman (Brent and sons Liam and Baker Dean), Tyler Francis (Maggie), Norm Francis III, Derek Francis, Ciera Smith, Garrett Francis, and Zach Francis.

LaVona is also survived by one brother, Erle Bergstrom (Phyllis), one brother-in-law, Gary Francis (Audrey), and several nieces and nephews.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister Rosie (Bergstrom) Reed.

Tom was the owner and operator of Tom’s Feed in Clay Center until his retirement in 2020.&nbsp; He was a member of the Clay Center Wesleyan Church, and a former board member of the school and township when in living in Alton. Tom enjoyed flower gardening and had a large plot of various Iris’s in Alton. He downsized but continued his passion when he moved to Clay Center. &nbsp;In addition to his wife Tom is preceded in death by parents; and siblings, John Michler, Melvia Paulson, Margaret Woods, and Bill Nelson.

Staff Sgt. Dana Moen, Chapman, KS was born Sept. 26,1965 in Grand Forks, ND. He was far too young, 56, at the time of his death. Dana was looking forward to retirement, and had lots of hobbies that would have kept him busy including his love of working on projects to maintain his properties, boating, movies, photography, riding his bikes, shooting pool or having a beer with friends. Dana had a love of adventure, family, and was always ready to lend anyone a helping hand. He spent the majority of his life serving our country in the military including several deployments, and had been recently promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant. Dana was the Public Affairs NCO, 101st Military History Detachment. He also held a full time civilian position with ECS 33 in Fort Riley, KS. He often spoke of his coworkers - he enjoyed both of his positions and wanted to make a difference. His coworkers will remember his joking and sense of humor. He also worked at Coors Brewery for several years. Dana was always active in his community and was a member of the American Legion, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Elks, Life Member of the VFW, and was a volunteer firefighter.

 He is survived by his mother Bonnie Moen, and sisters Susan (David) Kinzler and Laura (Mike) Zontelli, his nieces and nephews, Tyler (Katie) Kinzler, Kyla (Zach) Temple, Carly(Zach) Keller, Anne (Ben) Zontelli Zins, Zack Zontelli and their children, his aunts, uncles, and cousins. Dana Eldon Moen - September 26, 1965 - May 30, 2022

&nbsp;Veryl (Joe) Allen Switzer, Sr. went to be with the Lord on June 4, 2022, after complications from a stroke. Veryl was born on August 6, 1932 in Nicodemus, Kansas to Frederick L. Switzer and Ora T. (Wellington) Switzer. He was the youngest of six. His Dad was credited with giving Veryl the name ‘Joe’, because he thought Veryl sounded like a girl’s name. Veryl has been quoted as saying that he didn’t know what his real name was until he got to college. He grew up in that small farming community, surrounded by siblings and extended family. Like so many that came from a rural background, he learned his work ethic through doing chores in the morning before attending the District #1 School in town. His mother, Ora, believed in education and made sure he received one. Summers he played on the Nicodemus baseball team along with his brothers, actually playing against some of the Negro League teams. He attended Bogue High School, five miles to the west of Nicodemus, where he played football, basketball, and track. He also, was a member of the 4-H, instilling his love of farming. The football team had winning seasons for the majority of the time Veryl attended school, which garnered the attention of the colleges in the state. He actually had his eye on Washburn but when he went to tour, he was greeted by none other than Arthur Fletcher, the future first African American State Insurance Commissioner of Kansas. ‘Art, Veryl said, told him that he could represent the community better by attending a Division 1 school. That set his feet on the path of Kansas State University, where he had a stellar career not only in football, but also in track where he set several records in both fields; many which would not be broken until he returned back to his Alma Mater as an administrator. He still holds one record - Veryl is still the highest rank Kansas State graduate to be chosen in the NFL Draft being the number 4th pick to the Green Bay Packers. In addition, he joined the Air Force ROTC graduating as a Second Lieutenant. His service was delayed while he played 2 years in the NFL, then served in the Air Force as First Lieutenant playing with the Air Force team. After fulfilling his 2-year commitment he attempted to return to the NFL in 1958 but was not successful. Veryl headed north to play for both the Calgary Stampeders and the Montreal Alouettes in the Canadian Football League. While playing in the NFL, he married his college sweetheart, Fern N. Stalnaker, who he had met on a blind date at Pittsburgh State. They were married on December 26, 1956, by Fern’s father, the Rev. Calvin K. Stalnaker in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Once Veryl retired from football, they settled for a short period in Topeka, Kansas, where his first child, Teresa was born in 1959. The family then moved to Chicago, Illinois, where both he and Fern pursued careers in the Chicago Public School system. Veryl taught physical education, moonlighting in real estate as well as managing a night club with his brother-in-law and brother, Raleigh and Warren Taylor. Veryl’s family continued to grow with his first son, Veryl Jr, in 1961 and his second son, Calvin in 1963. Veryl Switzer had the privilege of taking a bus of high school students to the March on Washington in August of 1963. Veryl transitioned from teaching to school administration where he worked until he got a call from his alma mater asking if he would come back to the university. In 1969, he began a lifelong career at Kansas State University, initially as an assistant coach but found a greater calling in the Office of Student Affairs as the Assistant Director of Minority Affairs. Through that position, Veryl helped many minority students, fought for increased representation of minority staff, and helped bring national programs like Upward Bound and Trio to the University. Veryl, who pledged the Greek fraternity, Kappa Alpha Psi, Beta Psi Chapter as an undergraduate; helped re-establish the chapter. As an advisor for several years, he helped secure a house for Beta Psi making them the first Black Greek organization to own a house. In 1988, Veryl went back to the Athletic Department as an Associate Athletic Director. Veryl was an active member of the Manhattan community, serving many years on the USD 383 school board. He served as school board president being the first African American to do so. He was a longtime member of the Rotary, worked with the Kansas Children League and various organizations on and off campus. Veryl, didn’t forget his first love, farming. Over the years, he acquired several hundred acres of land in western Kansas and pursued several interests starting with raising Angus cattle, hog farming and wheat. A testimony to his Kentucky ancestors, Veryl loved horses! It was said Veryl could have been a stuntman! He could do all the tricks that was done in the movies. In 1999, after 30 years of service, Veryl retired from Kansas State University, after a weeklong celebration of activities and accolades, culminating in receiving the proverbial gold watch or in this case - a Cadillac! Veryl wasn’t one to retire so he continued in an adjunct capacity effectively setting up the Earl Woods First Tee Program, becoming its first Executive Director. He continued to farm but after his sweetheart passed in 1998, he no longer had the passion. Veryl loved his family and his hometown, Nicodemus. He worked on getting Nicodemus recognized as a National Landmark and help with the Historic Site. His love of family made him a mentor to many of his nieces, nephews and cousins. When the lawsuit for the Black Farmers gained momentum, Veryl was one of the founding members of the Kansas Black Farmers Association. Veryl Switzer’s achievements and honors are too numerous to mention all but to name a few; Ring of Honor, Sunflower State Hall of Fame, Kansas State Hall of Fame, Kansas Sports Hall of Fame, Top 100 Kansas athletes of the Century. Kansas African American Trailblazer, both the Manhattan MLK achievement and Topeka Living the Dream Lifetime award. Veryl once said, “That his goal was for ‘Each One Teach One’ an old African American proverb.” Veryl is preceded in death by his wife, Fern, parents (Fred and Ora), brothers (Frederick T, LeeEverett, Harold), 6 brothers-in-law (John Powell, Robert Roberson, Leroy Stalnaker, Frank Stalnaker, Bernard Stone, Raleigh Taylor) and 3 sisters-in-law (Benita Switzer (Harold), Dorothy Stone, Gloria Taylor). He is survived by his daughter, Teresa, sons, Veryl Jr (Kris) and Calvin (Cara), granddaughters, Amanda Fern (Kimberly), Samantha Leah, one grandson, Sean Allen; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and cousins. As an advisor for several years, he helped secure a house for Beta Psi making them the first Black Greek organization to own a house. In 1988, Veryl went back to the Athletic Department as an Associate Athletic Director. Veryl was an active member of the Manhattan community, serving many years on the USD 383 school board. He served as school board president being the first African American to do so. He was a longtime member of the Rotary, worked with the Kansas Children League and various organizations on and off campus. Veryl, didn’t forget his first love, farming. Over the years, he acquired several hundred acres of land in western Kansas and pursued several interests starting with raising Angus cattle, hog farming and wheat. A testimony to his Kentucky ancestors, Veryl loved horses! It was said Veryl could have been a stuntman! He could do all the tricks that was done in the movies. In 1999, after 30 years of service, Veryl retired from Kansas State University, after a weeklong celebration of activities and accolades, culminating in receiving the proverbial gold watch or in this case - a Cadillac! Veryl wasn’t one to retire so he continued in an adjunct capacity effectively setting up the Earl Woods First Tee Program, becoming its first Executive Director. He continued to farm but after his sweetheart passed in 1998, he no longer had the passion. Veryl loved his family and his hometown, Nicodemus. He worked on getting Nicodemus recognized as a National Landmark and help with the Historic Site. His love of family made him a mentor to many of his nieces, nephews and cousins. When the lawsuit for the Black Farmers gained momentum, Veryl was one of the founding members of the Kansas Black Farmers Association. Veryl Switzer’s achievements and honors are too numerous to mention all but to name a few; Ring of Honor, Sunflower State Hall of Fame, Kansas State Hall of Fame, Kansas Sports Hall of Fame, Top 100 Kansas athletes of the Century. Kansas African American Trailblazer, both the Manhattan MLK achievement and Topeka Living the Dream Lifetime award. Veryl once said, “That his goal was for ‘Each One Teach One’ an old African American proverb.” Veryl is preceded in death by his wife, Fern, parents (Fred and Ora), brothers (Frederick T, LeeEverett, Harold), 6 brothers-in-law (John Powell, Robert Roberson, Leroy Stalnaker, Frank Stalnaker, Bernard Stone, Raleigh Taylor) and 3 sisters-in-law (Benita Switzer (Harold), Dorothy Stone, Gloria Taylor). He is survived by his daughter, Teresa, sons, Veryl Jr (Kris) and Calvin (Cara), granddaughters, Amanda Fern (Kimberly), Samantha Leah, one grandson, Sean Allen; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and cousins. There will be a visitation on Thursday, June 16th, 2022 between 6-8:00pm at Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Ave, Manhattan, Kansas, 66502. Funeral services will be on Friday, June 17th, 2022, 9:00 am at First United Methodist Church, 612 Poyntz Ave, Manhattan, Kansas, 66502. After the repast. Jesse Ray Howard, 48, of Manhattan, passed away Saturday, June 4th, at his property in Manhattan. Jesse Howard was born in Abilene, Kansas on February 9, 1974, the son of Cathy Kay (Brown) Cosby, of Abilene, and Daniel Ray Howard, also of Abilene. Jesse worked for Home Depot in Manhattan and Topeka for many years as a manager. He graduated from Abilene High School, and attended Pittsburgh State University, Pittsburg, Kansas, he also belonged to the Eagles in Manhattan. Jesse is survived by his parents Cathy Kay (Phillip) Brown Cosby of Abilene and Daniel (Cherokee) Howard also of Abilene; three daughters, Molly Howard, of Abilene; Macy Howard, of Russell; Jessa Howard, of Abilene; two brothers, Jim (Ashley) Howard, of Salina; Justin Seaman, of Hutchinson; three step sisters, Jessica Martinez, of Wichita; Justine Cosby, of Lake Forrest, CA; Deb Marston, of Chapman; two step brothers, Jeremy Cosby, of Wichita; Darren Seaman, of Kansas City; grandmothers, Gertrude Brown, Abilene; Shirley Howard, Talmage; He is also survived by 3 grandchildren &amp; many nieces and nephews. John Buel Adams, Jr. “Jack,” 96, of Lawrence, Kansas, formerly of Deerfield, Kansas, died Tuesday, June 7, 2022, at the Olathe Medical Center. He had moved to Lawrence in 2014 from Deerfield to be close to family.

Jack was born on December 22, 1925, in Rocky Ford, Colorado, the son of John B. Adams, Sr. and Mabel (Hallows) Adams. Jack graduated from Rocky Ford High School and then served during WWII in the Army Air Corps.

Jack spent most of his adult life as a farmer and stockman operating a farm near Deerfield. His passion was his farming.

On April 18, 1948, Jack married Patsy “Pat” Marshall in Syracuse, Kansas. After sixty-five years of marriage, she preceded him in death on May 25, 2013.

Jack is survived by his daughters; Wendy Adams, Manhattan, Mikell Adams, Lawrence, Connie Adams (Randy Goodwin), Lawrence, and Catherine Adams, Garden City; his sons, John Adams, Phoenix, Arizona, and Ralph Adams (Cathy), Topeka; his grandchildren, Christopher Adams, Ted Adams, Kristen Hunnicutt, Blake Bolan, Erin Leivestad, and Jordan Crice; his great-grandchildren, Lakin Adams, Tague Adams, Maddie Leivestad, Micael Leivestad, Rosey Leivestad, Keaton Henry (Mariah), Chloe Hunnicutt, Malachi Hunnicutt, and Jaxon Hunnicutt; his great-great grandson, Aaron Henry; and his sister, Susie Seacrist, of Idaho. Jack was also preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Richard Adams, Larry Adams, and Joyce Yeater.

In Jack’s later years, one of the things he liked to do best was to take a pleasant drive in the country while enjoying a strawberry milkshake. His family suggests that in lieu of flowers or memorials, in Jack’s memory, take your family for a drive and everyone enjoy a strawberry shake.

She was born on September 28, 1918.&nbsp; Lucy was the daughter of Emil and Francis (Walters) Wege.&nbsp; She was a graduate of Fostoria, Kansas, High School.&nbsp; Lucy married Howard Gifford in July, 1939 and they raised their 4 children on a farm in Southeast Kansas.

Lucy Louise (Wege) Gifford, age 103, of Manhattan, Kansas, passed away Friday, June 10, 2022, in Bloomfield, Indiana.She was born on September 28, 1918.&nbsp; Lucy was the daughter of Emil and Francis (Walters) Wege.&nbsp; She was a graduate of Fostoria, Kansas, High School.&nbsp; Lucy married Howard Gifford in July, 1939 and they raised their 4 children on a farm in Southeast Kansas.She worked for Kansas State University in food services and Home Health.She enjoyed flowers and gardening and was devoted to her family. She was a member of the&nbsp;Seventh-Day Adventist Church&nbsp;in Manhattan.&nbsp;Lucy is survived by 3 of 4 children: Beulah Ann Shipwash, Donald Dean Gifford and Carol Almeda Anderson, 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren, and 1 great- great-great-grandchild.&nbsp; Lucy was the second of 10 children who have all preceded her in death along with their spouses.She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter (Ellen Louise Brown and husband Harold), one great-granddaughter (Ashley Toland), and one great-grandson ( Noah Shipwash).Funeral services are pending and will be announced.&nbsp;Memorial contributions are suggested to the&nbsp;Seventh Day Adventist Church or the Heart Association and&nbsp;may be left in care of Campanella &amp; Stewart Funeral Home, 4370 Salzer Rd, Wamego, KS 66547.&nbsp;
