Dr. Allen LeRoy Reynolds, DDS, 74, of Saint George, KS, passed away at Friday, August 12th, 2022 at Ascension Via Christi Health Hospital, Manhattan. He was a retired dentist from Dodge City. Allen was born in Dodge City, KS on July 10, 1948, the son of the late Edna V (Allen) Reynolds and Charles Andrew "Andy" Reynolds. He was the widower of Barbara Ann (Tracy) Reynolds, they married in Kansas City, Kansas on July 14, 1968. Allen graduated from Dodge City High School in 1965 and the University of Missouri, Kansas City in 1972. Allen is survived by two daughters, Renae Mercado (husband Anthony), of Manhattan, KS; Kimberly Reynolds, of Saint George, KS; son, Christopher A. Reynolds, of Wichita and 5 grandchildren, Kaiton and Brecken Padget, Schandon, and Scarlett Mercado, and Marissa Reynolds. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara, both parents, his sister Carol Cloug, and his daughter-in-law, Tracey Barber Reynolds. Services will be private at the convenience of the family in Dodge City. Allen will be buried with Barbara at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City. Henry Archie Bozarth, Jr., 88, of Manhattan, KS, formerly of Wichita till 2015 before moving to Manhattan, passed away Friday, August 5th, at Good Shepherd Hospice House. Naida Jane (Bell) Sanders passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 6, 2022 at Chapman Valley Manor, where she had been a resident for the last four years. Naida was born in Osborne, KS on September 12, 1927, the daughter of Ruby and Alice Bell. She is survived by her daughters, Randee (Steve) Werts of Prairie Village, KS and Sandra Sanders of Kansas City, MO; and also her nieces Susan (John) Moyer and Peggy (Mark) Roser of Junction City, Sherry Boyer of Topeka, KS, and Linda Filby-Fisher of Overland Park, KS. She was preceded in death by her beloved sisters and nephew: Nila Irene Filby in 2013, Norma Jean Horner in 2022, and Jeffrey Barton Filby in 2009. Naida and her family moved from Osborne to Junction City in 1942. She was the youngest of the three Bell sisters and graduated from JCHS in 1945. She was married in 1947 and had two daughters. Being the mother of Randee and Sandy was central to Naida's life, as well as being one of the Bell sisters. Naida had many friends, among them members of two bridge clubs. She enjoyed making candy—butter almond toffee and peanut butter balls—as gifts on special occasions. She enjoyed books and crossword puzzles her entire life. She worked as Secretary to the Chief of Staff 1st infantry Division and Garrison Commander, Ft. Riley for over 22 years, retiring in March of 1990. She served as a docent for the Fort Riley Historical Society, taking visitors on tours of the Fort. She was active in her community, serving as co-chair of the Red Cross Blood Drives for many years. Naida was a member of the Friends of Dorothy Bramlage Library, Junction City Theater Guild, The Notables singing group, Geary County Historical Society, Geary County Hospital Auxiliary, and the National Assoc. of Retired Federal Employees. She was a life-long member of the First United Methodist Church in Junction City and loved singing with the choir. A celebration of Naida's life will be held at the church on September 8, 2022 at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to JC First United Methodist Church and the Dorothy Bramlage Library.

Naida Jane Sanders

Beverly Jean (Bishop) Smith passed away on June 26th
 at her home in Salina after battling Leukemia, surrounded by family. 
Beverly was born on April 18th, 1937, in Wichita, KS to Adelbert “Ebby” 
Bishop and Anna Laura (Winter) Bishop. She grew up in Derby, KS and 
graduated from Derby High School. She went on to get her B.A. in 
Secondary Education from Friends University in Wichita, KS. 

After 
graduating, she accepted a teaching position with Rozelle High School in 
Rozelle, KS where she lived for two years. She then moved to Mankato, KS
 where she became the Jewell County Extension Agent for three and half 
years. This is also where she met her future husband, Jack Smith.

Beverly moved to Salina, KS and worked for the Saline County 
Extension Service for ten years. In this period, she also married Jack 
and obtained her master’s degrees in both Family &amp; Childhood 
Development and Consumer Economics from Kansas State University in 
Manhattan, KS. &nbsp;

After taking a few year years off to raise their two boys, Beverly 
went back to work as an Associate Professor at Kansas Wesleyan 
University where she taught for 17 years. She served on many committees 
and was a faculty member for Kansas State University for 13 years before
 retiring from Kansas Wesleyan. Before she officially retired, she was a
 consultant for Mid-American Nazarene, Baker University, Ottawa 
University and Saint Mary’s University.

Throughout her life she volunteered for many groups including being a
 camp counselor for 20 years, and a 4-H community leader. She was an 
administrator for the Salina Track Club/Junior Olympics and took many 
groups of students on trips to New York and 4-H members to Washington 
D.C. Beverly was also a member of the First Christian Church in Salina, 
where she taught Sunday School and served on the board.

Her interest included travel, cooking, sewing, sports and attending 
community theatre. She spent her last few years, taking care of her 
husband and adoring her grandkids.

Beverly was preceded in death by her husband, Jack A. Smith, both of 
her parents and her siblings Paul Bishop and Juanita “Bishop” Meissen.

She is survived by her son’s Jeffrey Alan Smith of Lee’s Summit, MO, and Matthew Lynn Smith of

Overland Park, KS and her four grandchildren: Ethan Alexander Smith, 
Rachel Louise Smith, Owen Jeffrey Smith, and Nathan William Smith. Along
 with her nephews Greg Meissen of Wichita, Steve Meissen of 
Fayetteville, GA and Gerald Winkle of Puyallup, WA.

Memorial Service will be held for Beverly and Jack on August 20th at 10:00 a.m. at Ryan Mortuary, Salina.

Memorials may be made to the Saline County 4-H Development Fund.

Ada Ann Beck, 95, of Junction City, KS, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 8, 2022 at the family farm surrounded by loved ones. A funeral service will take place 10 a.m. Saturday, August 13, 2022 at the Lyona United Methodist Church with Pastor Kris Brinlee officiating. Burial will follow the funeral at the church cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to be given to Lyona United Methodist Church or to the Junction City Animal Shelter. Ada Ann was born February 16, 1927 in Junction City, KS the daughter of Harley and Hazel (Langvardt) Barton. She grew up on her family dairy farm on West Lyon Creek Road. She attended Rueben Elementary school, a one room school house near her family farm. Ada Ann graduated from Junction City High School in 1945. While attending Kansas State University, Ada Ann met the love of her life, Hayes B. Beck. They married on August 1, 1948. After marrying, Hayes sold his farmstead East of Manhattan and they moved to the Lyona Community where they purchased the Barton Farm in 1950. Together they farmed as well as owned and operated many business ventures to include a purebred hog operation and Beck’s Milky Way Dairy. She later supported her husband, Hayes, through his political career as a county commissioner. Ada Ann was a very religious woman and a member of Lyona United Methodist Church her entire life. Her love of Jesus was evident by how she loved and supported her family. She was a caretaker to many whether it be her husband, mother, children, grandchildren or pets. Her family will remember her for her strength and determination to get through the seasons of life. She truly was the glue to hold everything together. Survivors include four sons, Brenton Beck, Sr. and Tammy of Perryville, AR, Barton and Cindy Beck of Junction City, KS, Jason Beck, Sr. and Roxanne of White City, KS and Jay J. Beck of Junction City, KS; one daughter, Eulonda Eckhoff of Arkansas City, KS; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Hayes B. Beck; daughter, Tarla Gae Beck; daughter-in-law, Deborah Beck; two granddaughters, Taryn and Starlyn Beck; one brother, Lee Barton; and one sister, Janet Schlegel.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Lois Jean (Yarrow) Hamilton, of Clay Center, passed away August 9, 2022 at the age of 97 after a long battle with dementia.&nbsp; Lois Jean was born April 9, 1925 the daughter of Wright and Martha Yarrow.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She attended Mt. Vernon grade school and later graduated from Clay Center High School with the class of 1942.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She married Donald L. Hamilton in June 1946 and they had 3 sons, Gregory Stephen, Dennis Eugene and Kelly Scott.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents, Wright and Martha, husband Donald and son Gregory.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She is survived by her two sons, Dennis of Clay Center and Kelly and wife Mary of San Diego, CA.&nbsp; Four grandchildren, Lindsay Clark, Erin Hamilton, Katie Hamilton and Andy Hamilton.&nbsp; Two great grandchildren, Laramie and Landrie.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Lois Jean worked for the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company as an operator and later for over 20 years as secretary of McKinley School.&nbsp; &nbsp;She loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.&nbsp; She also enjoyed playing bridge with her bridge clubs in Clay Center.&nbsp; She was a member of the Clay Center Covenant Church.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Frances L. “Francie” Young, 67, of Clay Center died Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at the Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center in Topeka.&nbsp; She was born March 2, 1955 in Weatherford, Okalhoma, the daughter of Vernon and Lillian (Brown) Stutz.

Francie grew up in Hydro, Oklahoma before her family moved to Clay Center during her Junior year of high school.&nbsp; She graduated from CCCHS in 1973 and attended Cloud County Community College.&nbsp; Francie married Roger Young on May 15, 1987.&nbsp; The couple owned and operated The Southside from 1990 until 2005.&nbsp; Francie was also a private caregiver for many elderly residents in Clay Center.&nbsp; She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Vernon Stutz, II.

Sherry M. Bergmeier, age 80, died August 7, 2022, in Manhattan, Kansas. She was born to Rudy and Marjorie (Cherry) Oard on January 5, 1942, in Clay Center, Kansas. Sherry lived in the Longford, KS area and attended Walker School until the 4th&nbsp;grade. &nbsp;Her family moved east of Wakefield where she attended Bala School until the 8th&nbsp;grade, and then went on to graduate from Wakefield High School. She worked part time as an office assistant for Kirby Insurance and full time at Upland Insurance. Sherry enjoyed going to her grandchildren’s ballgames, gardening, fishing, and sewing. She was a former member of the Wakefield United Methodist Church. Sherry is preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Cindy Lou; son-in-law, Carl Rosenberry; nephew, Jeff Oard; and sister-in-law, Linda Oard.

Naomi F. Graves was born August 5, 1941 in Picher, Oklahoma the daughter of Wilbur Dean and Naomi E. (Jarrett) Cornwell. She passed away Saturday, August 6, 2022 at the Holiday Resort Health and Rehab in Salina. On October 6, 1962 she was united in marriage to Eldon Graves in Junction City. He passed away on March 12, 1978. Naomi was a floor supervisor for Alco for many years and was a member of the St. Michael Catholic Church and the St. Michael Catholic Church Auxiliary. She was a member of the VFW and the American Legion and volunteered in several organizations including several schools as a Foster Grandparent wherever they lived across the country. She is survived by her loving sons Stewart graves and Kenneth Graves of Salina, brothers Tom Cornwell of Valley Center, Kansas, Harry Cornwell of Mayetta, Kansas, Richard Cornwell of Blue Springs, Missouri, five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Albert Edward Wells, Jr. passed into heaven to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 7, 2022. He was born on July 23, 1933 in Dade County, GA to Albert and Mae Belle (Haswell) Wells, Sr. He was the 5th of 7 children. Al married the love of his life, Dorothy Jean Aebi of Woodbine, on August 22, 1951, in The Chapel of the Transfiguration in Grand Teton National Park, WY.&nbsp; They made their home in Enterprise for most of their 71 years of marriage.

Al was employed as a machinist at The Ehrsam Company in Enterprise, and later at Exline in Salina, and Vacu-Blast in Abilene. Later in life, he was able to pursue his lifelong dream of being a cattle rancher until his health no longer allowed it. He attended Emmanuel Church in Abilene.

He was preceded in death by parents, 2 siblings in childhood, Jimmie Lou, and his only brother Myron; 4 other sisters, Christine (Curtis) Stephens, Jo (John) Rose, Cecille Wells, Opal (John) Craze; brother-in-law Darrell Aebi, son-in-law Ray Van Sickle and nephew Steve Stephens. Al is survived by his beloved wife Jean, daughter Christiane Van Sickle of Newton, and son Kenyon (Kathy) of Olathe. Also, grandchildren Melodi (Caleb) Wood, Brent (Jennifer) Van Sickle, Abbie Bazan and Ashley (Francisco) Pacheco as well as 7 great-grandchildren: Shane, Brook, Jude, Braden, Oliver, Bryce, and Sawyer and 6 nieces and nephews. Family was everything to him.

A funeral service will be held at Danner Funeral Home, 501 N Buckeye in Abilene on Wednesday, August 10 at 2:00 p.m. with his grandson Pastor Brent Van Sickle officiating. The family will receive friends for 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow in the Woodbine Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Emmanuel Church. With great sorrow, we announce the passing of our beautiful Mother, Cathy J. Cooper 63, of Lincoln Kansas (formally Abilene). Mom left this earth peacefully, on August the 5th, 2022 with both of her sons by her side.

Cathy was born in Abilene, Kansas on January 25, 1959, to Marvin and Laura Cairns. She grew up in the Abilene area and attended the local schools.

In 1974 Cathy fell in love with Harvey Kenneth Cooper (11/12/56-9/9/09) with whom she had two sons Joshua and Aaron Cooper. Cathy was a strong woman who faced life challenges with courage and dignity, putting the needs of her family first. She worked hard doing everything from making beds and cleaning rooms at a local hotel, to standing over a hot stove for hours on end!

In 1983 Cathy attended Vernon's school of cosmetology where she earned a degree in cosmetology, passing with the top of her class. She enjoyed cutting hair and she did so for many years. However, if you knew our Mom, you knew that her favorite thing to do was cook! Man, could she cook!! There wasn't anything she couldn't make and everyone loved her cooking!

Cathy's true passion in life was her family! She loved her family! Her brothers were dear to her, as were her many nieces and nephews! Cathy's greatest pride and joy were her sons and grandchildren whom she loved more than words can tell!

Cathy is survived by her beloved sons, Joshua and Aaron Cooper. Two brothers: Dean (Ann) Cairns and David Cairns. Six grandchildren: Camryn, Dalton, Jake, Abbigal, Jeffery, Joshua, and many nieces and nephews, all who were loved dearly! Finally, with much gratitude, we give a thank you to Cathy's special friend, Harvey Rousch. We will always be grateful for you.

Mom was a woman of faith and She instilled in us the importance of family, hard work, doing what's right, and loving each other through it all!

Cathy J. Cooper

Jerry Samuel Weis, PhD., 86, passed away at Good Shepherd Hospice House on Saturday, August 6, 2022. He was surrounded by family, including beloved grandchildren, who were his heart and soul. An avid storyteller, profound listener and example of a life well lived, his family would like this to be a love letter sharing a little about this man who made the world a better place. Born on December 22, 1935 in Salina, KS to Lucille Sondergard Weis and Paul Samuel Weis, Jerry was adored by his family. Two years later he was joined by his brother, Larry Paul Weis, and that’s where their story begins. “All boy” those two were, and their shared love of sports allowed them to spend a lot of time together. One of their favorite stories to tell was the summer they could only afford one baseball glove, which meant they couldn’t play on the same team. Between innings whoever had the glove would toss it to the other on their way back to the dugout. Their childhood included best friends Gerald Culley, Bob Pinkall and Rich Wilbur. These friendships would span their entire lifetime, eventually including their wives. This group, that included Jerry, Larry and their wives, called themselves the “Crazy Buddies”. They continued to share their lives, even after moves all around the country. Their travels together created fabulous memories! That’s the kind of guy Jerry was. Once you knew him, you wanted him in your life forever. Jerry was the first in his family to attend college, and his family burst with pride. He received his undergraduate degree at Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina, was a four year letterman in basketball, two year letterman in tennis, and served as Student Body President. In 1970, he was awarded the Outstanding Young Alumnus. Life then took him to the University of Kansas in Lawrence and the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, so he could pursue his Masters’ and Doctoral degrees. It was during that time his destiny inadvertently picked up his newspaper in the KU cafeteria, and there was no turning back. He was instantly smitten with this beautiful, spunky and determined farm girl from Missouri, Linda Faye Browning. Within a week, he knew he was going to marry this girl. And he told her so. Their whirlwind courtship lasted six months and he DID marry that girl at First Baptist Church in Brunswick, Missouri on January 29, 1961. No one could deny they were the loves of each other’s lives. His career in higher education took them to the University of Minnesota at Duluth where he was an Assistant Professor, followed by a Post-Doctoral Fellowship at Yale University. When Jerry told Linda he wanted to accept a job offer at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas, she thought he was nuts! Who leaves Yale for Kansas? She tells the story of crying all the way from Connecticut to the Midwest. The rest, as they say, is history. Manhattan quickly became their home, and this couple spent the next 50+ years serving the community in every capacity they could. Jerry did this in the most modest of ways. He didn’t want accolades. To him, this is just what you should do. Give back, pure and simple. And always be grateful. Their union blessed them with three children and six grandchildren. His family is aching with grief right now over the loss of this great man. This is the price to be paid when someone loves the way Jerry did: unconditionally, fiercely, and without judgment. His family knew they were his everything. He did it all: coached, helped with homework, attended games and activities, nursed boo boos and broken hearts, enabled the bringing home of stray animals. He had an innate ability to listen. When you talked with him, you knew you were heard. There was a quiet intelligence about him that allowed him to view all sides of a discussion, and navigate parties to mutual understandings. He wasn’t right – and you weren’t wrong. A man way ahead of his time, he encouraged and supported his wife to further her education and spread her wings, including becoming actively involved in the community and eventually a business owner. Not many men in the 1970’s-80’s would have helped cook, clean and care for the children, all while balancing a challenging career. But Jerry did. And he did it well. His creative side was nurtured when he sketched or painted for fun. He would laugh and tell you he wasn’t very good, but his renderings showed differently. He loved to build things in his workshop, and his family treasures the furniture he built. He could fix just about anything. He and Linda bought old houses and “flipped” them, long before most people had heard that term. Friends and neighbors learned that he was always willing to lend a helping hand if needed. He was not only a champion of a diverse circle of people in his personal life; he channeled that same energy during the 34 years he spent at Kansas State University in the Division of Biology. Serving in many capacities, including Associate Professor, Associate Director and Interim Director, those who were taught by him and worked with him will passionately tell you he positively impacted more lives than anyone could ever count. He about drove “the gals in the office” crazy because they never knew where to find him. One thing, though. Jerry could tell you the names of everyone who worked at Ackert Hall … from the head honcho to the part-time maintenance guys. Everyone mattered, everyone was important. Involved in many facets during his tenure at KSU, he led the formation of the Office of Undergraduate Affairs, served three terms as an elected representative of the Faculty Senate and twice chaired the Academic Affairs Committee. He served as State President, Kansas Academy of Science. In 1991 he was one of seven KSU faculty members selected for the General Education Task Force and was also a recipient of the William Stamey Teaching Award, Arts and Sciences. Upon retiring from KSU in 2000, Jerry joined Linda in running her real estate business, Realty Executives Weis Real Estate. For the next 20 years, he worked tirelessly in the real estate industry. The integrity with which he lived was a part of his every transaction. Employees and clients were treated like family, and his word was his bond. He didn’t understand why all that blasted paperwork was needed; what happened to a verbal agreement and a handshake? But he begrudgingly learned how to do it all. He worked hard and served many people: President and Board of Directors, Manhattan Arts Council; President, Manhattan Rotary Club; Chairman, District Rotary Polio Plus Campaign; Distinguished Service Award, Rotary International; Rotarian of the Year and Paul Harris Fellow, Manhattan Rotary Club; Rotary International Foundation “Citation for Meritorious Service” and “Service Above Self” award; Rotary International Foundation “Scholarships” subcommittee chair; Board of Directors and KSU Campaign Chair, United Way of Manhattan; President, Eugene Field PTA; President, Manhattan Assn of Realtors; President, Peace Lutheran Church Council; President, First Lutheran Church Council; Chairperson, FLC Lamb of God Board; 13 years on the Board of Trustees, Kansas Wesleyan University, Jerry served as Chair of Troop 74 Committee, Boy Scouts of America for many years. Through the years, he and his wife, Linda, hosted international students from Peru, Colombia, and Sweden. A devout man of God, Jerry was a lifelong Lutheran and while in Manhattan, actively volunteered during his 13 years at Peace Lutheran Church and 43 years at First Lutheran Church. For more than 25 years he was a leader on the Lutheran Campus Ministry Board at KSU. We are confident that every Sunday morning in Heaven, Jerry will be sitting up front at worship, just to make sure he has the best seat in the house to see “the munchkins” during the Children’s Sermon. Survivors include his wife of 61+ years, Linda Browning Weis, of the home; children Mark S. Weis, Ted P. Weis, Stephanie Weis Grynkiewicz (Ross), and their families: Wilson and Caroline Weis, Isabella and Julia Weis, Joshua and Samantha Grynkiewicz, Patrick Randolph; brother Larry (Janet) Weis; nieces/nephew Barbara Hansen, Pamela Eck (Les), Bruce Weis, and their families. The family will receive friends on Monday, August 22nd from 5-7pm at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home. The funeral service, scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 23 at First Lutheran Church, will be preceded with organ prelude by Dan Myers beginning at 1:00 p.m.. Between innings whoever had the glove would toss it to the other on their way back to the dugout. Their childhood included best friends Gerald Culley, Bob Pinkall and Rich Wilbur. These friendships would span their entire lifetime, eventually including their wives. This group, that included Jerry, Larry and their wives, called themselves the “Crazy Buddies”. They continued to share their lives, even after moves all around the country. Their travels together created fabulous memories! That’s the kind of guy Jerry was. Once you knew him, you wanted him in your life forever. Jerry was the first in his family to attend college, and his family burst with pride. He received his undergraduate degree at Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina, was a four year letterman in basketball, two year letterman in tennis, and served as Student Body President. In 1970, he was awarded the Outstanding Young Alumnus. Life then took him to the University of Kansas in Lawrence and the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, so he could pursue his Masters’ and Doctoral degrees. It was during that time his destiny inadvertently picked up his newspaper in the KU cafeteria, and there was no turning back. He was instantly smitten with this beautiful, spunky and determined farm girl from Missouri, Linda Faye Browning. Within a week, he knew he was going to marry this girl. And he told her so. Their whirlwind courtship lasted six months and he DID marry that girl at First Baptist Church in Brunswick, Missouri on January 29, 1961. No one could deny they were the loves of each other’s lives. His career in higher education took them to the University of Minnesota at Duluth where he was an Assistant Professor, followed by a Post-Doctoral Fellowship at Yale University. When Jerry told Linda he wanted to accept a job offer at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas, she thought he was nuts! Who leaves Yale for Kansas? She tells the story of crying all the way from Connecticut to the Midwest. The rest, as they say, is history. Manhattan quickly became their home, and this couple spent the next 50+ years serving the community in every capacity they could. Jerry did this in the most modest of ways. He didn’t want accolades. To him, this is just what you should do. Give back, pure and simple. And always be grateful. Their union blessed them with three children and six grandchildren. His family is aching with grief right now over the loss of this great man. This is the price to be paid when someone loves the way Jerry did: unconditionally, fiercely, and without judgment. His family knew they were his everything. He did it all: coached, helped with homework, attended games and activities, nursed boo boos and broken hearts, enabled the bringing home of stray animals. He had an innate ability to listen. When you talked with him, you knew you were heard. There was a quiet intelligence about him that allowed him to view all sides of a discussion, and navigate parties to mutual understandings. He wasn’t right – and you weren’t wrong. A man way ahead of his time, he encouraged and supported his wife to further her education and spread her wings, including becoming actively involved in the community and eventually a business owner. Not many men in the 1970’s-80’s would have helped cook, clean and care for the children, all while balancing a challenging career. But Jerry did. And he did it well. His creative side was nurtured when he sketched or painted for fun. He would laugh and tell you he wasn’t very good, but his renderings showed differently. He loved to build things in his workshop, and his family treasures the furniture he built. He could fix just about anything. He and Linda bought old houses and “flipped” them, long before most people had heard that term. Friends and neighbors learned that he was always willing to lend a helping hand if needed. He was not only a champion of a diverse circle of people in his personal life; he channeled that same energy during the 34 years he spent at Kansas State University in the Division of Biology. Serving in many capacities, including Associate Professor, Associate Director and Interim Director, those who were taught by him and worked with him will passionately tell you he positively impacted more lives than anyone could ever count. He about drove “the gals in the office” crazy because they never knew where to find him. One thing, though. Jerry could tell you the names of everyone who worked at Ackert Hall … from the head honcho to the part-time maintenance guys. Everyone mattered, everyone was important. Involved in many facets during his tenure at KSU, he led the formation of the Office of Undergraduate Affairs, served three terms as an elected representative of the Faculty Senate and twice chaired the Academic Affairs Committee. He served as State President, Kansas Academy of Science. In 1991 he was one of seven KSU faculty members selected for the General Education Task Force and was also a recipient of the William Stamey Teaching Award, Arts and Sciences. Upon retiring from KSU in 2000, Jerry joined Linda in running her real estate business, Realty Executives Weis Real Estate. For the next 20 years, he worked tirelessly in the real estate industry. The integrity with which he lived was a part of his every transaction. Employees and clients were treated like family, and his word was his bond. He didn’t understand why all that blasted paperwork was needed; what happened to a verbal agreement and a handshake? But he begrudgingly learned how to do it all. He worked hard and served many people: President and Board of Directors, Manhattan Arts Council; President, Manhattan Rotary Club; Chairman, District Rotary Polio Plus Campaign; Distinguished Service Award, Rotary International; Rotarian of the Year and Paul Harris Fellow, Manhattan Rotary Club; Rotary International Foundation “Citation for Meritorious Service” and “Service Above Self” award; Rotary International Foundation “Scholarships” subcommittee chair; Board of Directors and KSU Campaign Chair, United Way of Manhattan; President, Eugene Field PTA; President, Manhattan Assn of Realtors; President, Peace Lutheran Church Council; President, First Lutheran Church Council; Chairperson, FLC Lamb of God Board; 13 years on the Board of Trustees, Kansas Wesleyan University, Jerry served as Chair of Troop 74 Committee, Boy Scouts of America for many years. Through the years, he and his wife, Linda, hosted international students from Peru, Colombia, and Sweden. A devout man of God, Jerry was a lifelong Lutheran and while in Manhattan, actively volunteered during his 13 years at Peace Lutheran Church and 43 years at First Lutheran Church. For more than 25 years he was a leader on the Lutheran Campus Ministry Board at KSU. We are confident that every Sunday morning in Heaven, Jerry will be sitting up front at worship, just to make sure he has the best seat in the house to see “the munchkins” during the Children’s Sermon. Survivors include his wife of 61+ years, Linda Browning Weis, of the home; children Mark S. Weis, Ted P. Weis, Stephanie Weis Grynkiewicz (Ross), and their families: Wilson and Caroline Weis, Isabella and Julia Weis, Joshua and Samantha Grynkiewicz, Patrick Randolph; brother Larry (Janet) Weis; nieces/nephew Barbara Hansen, Pamela Eck (Les), Bruce Weis, and their families. Gloria Mary Bragga Hunt, age 96 of Manhattan Kansas passed away August 10, 2022 She was born on February 22, 1926 in Sunnyvale California in Santa Clara County. The daughter of Joseph Veverous Bragga and Phoebe Rose Bragga Rodgers. Her parents came to Sausalito California in 1921 from Massachusetts to manage the El Monte Hotel. Gloria was proud of her Portuguese heritage and enjoyed learning and speaking the language as a child with her grandparents and then again later in life. On June 19, 1944 in Marion County, San Rafael California she was married to Ivan Ray Hunt. They were married for 60 years and lived in Sausalito California until they moved to Manhattan Kansas in November of 1996 to be near Ivan’s twin sister and family. Gloria met Ivan a fun-loving young man from Tryon Oklahoma during World War II while he was stationed in California serving in the U.S. Coast Guard. Gloria grew up in Sausalito California graduated from Tamalpais High School class of 1943. After graduation she went to work for a short time with the New York life Insurance Company of San Francisco. Gloria enjoyed being a homemaker and caring for her husband and mother. She had a special love for animals, she enjoyed feeding and caring for all wildlife and domesticated animals that came her way. She was extremely fond of cats and adopted and cared for many over the years. Gloria had a passion and a love for all sports her favorites were baseball, figure skating and rodeo events. Gloria loved living in her beautiful community in Sausalito she enjoyed everything the lovely countryside had to offer. One of her favorite daily activities was going for long walks with her mother and enjoying the beautiful Sausalito Bay. She always talked about how special it was to live in an area that she could watch the Golden Gate Bridge being built. She would always say “it’s not as long as it looks on TV”, and that her and her mother walked across it several times. After arriving in Manhattan Kansas, Ivan and Gloria settled into small town living, enjoying family and cheering on the Wildcats. Their favorite activity was going on daily drives in the countryside enjoying all the small communities surrounding the area. They especially enjoyed all the local restaurants and unique shopping. Gloria and Ivan enjoyed checking out every thrift and antique store they came across. She is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph in 1931 and Phoebe in 1995 and her beloved husband Ivan Hunt on July 17, 2004. Five brother-in-law's Rev. Emery Hunt, Charles Hunt, Rev. CL Moore, Oscar R. Larson Jr. and Paul Cook as well as five sister-in-law's Helen Hunt, Ruth Moore, Iva May Larson, Mary Ellen Cook and Dixie Hunt. Cremation is planned with a private service. She was born March 24, 1941, in Emmetsburg, Iowa, the daughter of Willard and Phyllis (Guinn) Henkins. She attended high school in Emmetsburg. In 1959, she moved to Kansas to help out a relative with her children when she met her future husband on the bus ride. On October 31, 1959, in Junction City, Kansas, she was married to Donald Baker, Jr. Theresa was a housekeeper for St. Joseph Village and later for Ascension Via Christi Village in Manhattan. She has also worked for Southwestern Bell as a delivery person between their offices. She was a wonderful seamstress and made many formal dresses, wedding gowns and clothes. Prior to being diagnosed with cancer and COPD she enjoyed playing games with her children and grandchildren. She loved roller skating in her younger days. She was kind, loving, and the kind of person that was more worried about others than herself. She was preceded in death by her husband on September 21, 2011. She was also preceded in death by her father and two brothers: Raymond and Burton. Norma Ellen Adams, 91, of Manhattan, passed away Saturday, August 6th, at Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community. Norma was born in Pleasanton, KS on March 20, 1931, the daughter of the late Leonard Elmer and Ruth Hazel (Harris) Jones. She was the widow of Albert Adams. They were married on July 30, 1949, In Pleasanton. Norma attended school and graduated from Pleasanton High School in 1949. She and Albert were very active members of the Grace Baptist Church in Manhattan. She enjoyed being a Sunday School class teacher, and President of the Ladies Fellowship, she worked in the food pantry, was a member of the Mission Committee, and was a member of the Deacon and Deaconess Board of the church. Norma is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Ann, wife of David Spare, of Larned, KS; three sons, Phillip, husband of Becky Adams, of Garden City, KS; Michael D, husband of Carol Adams, of Clay Center and Timothy R, husband of Cheri Adams, of Craig, CO. Norma is also survived by her brother, Leon Jones, of Ariz., and by her nineteen grandchildren: Ryan Reed Adams, Angela Addis, Alison Neis, Jonathan Spare, William Adams, Michael Spare, Jay Adams, Larissa Neapolitan, Natalie Craig, Stasia Martin, Amanda Woodward, Katherine Oesterreich and Preston Adams. Norma Ellen Adams, 91, of Manhattan, passed away Saturday, August 6th, at Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community. Norma was born in Pleasanton, KS on March 20, 1931, the daughter of the late Leonard Elmer and Ruth Hazel (Harris) Jones. She was the widow of Albert Adams. They were married on July 30, 1949, In Pleasanton. Norma attended school and graduated from Pleasanton High School in 1949. She and Albert were very active members of the Grace Baptist Church in Manhattan. She enjoyed being a Sunday School class teacher, and President of the Ladies Fellowship, she worked in the food pantry, was a member of the Mission Committee, and was a member of the Deacon and Deaconess Board of the church. Norma is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Ann, wife of David Spare, of Larned, KS; three sons, Phillip, husband of Becky Adams, of Garden City, KS; Michael D, husband of Carol Adams, of Clay Center and Timothy R, husband of Cheri Adams, of Craig, CO. Norma is also survived by her brother, Leon Jones, of Ariz., and by her nineteen grandchildren: Ryan Reed Adams, Angela Addis, Alison Neis, Jonathan Spare, William Adams, Michael Spare, Jay Adams, Larissa Neapolitan, Natalie Craig, Stasia Martin, Amanda Woodward, Katherine Oesterreich and Preston Adams. Great: 19 She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers, Elvin Jones, Gerald Jones, and Verl Jones, and two sisters, Rita Fern Arnold, and Phyllis Reid. A Service of Remembrance will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 12th, at Grace Baptist Church in Manhattan, KS with Dennis Toll officiating. Monty Wayne Rhine, 56 , of Wamego, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday (August 10, 2022) at his home in Wamego.

Born November 12, 1965 in St. Joseph, Missouri, &nbsp;Monty was the son of John and Dorothy LeRew Rhine.&nbsp; He married Angie Meritt on May 20, 1989 in Cuba, Kansas.&nbsp; She survives.

Monty was a graduate of Hillcrest High School in Cuba and a 1989 graduate of Kansas State University with a Bachelors Degree in Ag Economics.&nbsp; He was currently the co-owner of J. M. Staffing Agency in Topeka.&nbsp; Monty graduated from the Colorado School of Banking and previously worked in banking in Arizona, Wyoming and Kansas.&nbsp; He was also a founder and co-owner of Czechland Outfitters in Cuba with his brother, Heath and friends, Cass Reynolds and Jay T. Reynolds.

Monty was a member of Wamego Country Club where he was an avid golfer.&nbsp; He enjoyed hunting, diving and his passion for corvettes but his greatest joy was the time he spent with his family and his dogs, Bentley and Louie.

Survivors include his wife, Angie; two children, Sarah Talkington (Tim) of Belleville, KS and Chandler Rhine (Maria) of Topeka, KS; six grandchildren, Kaleb Talkington, Lexus Talkington, Brooklyn Talkington, Ernesto Rhine, Brian Rhine and Elianna Rhine; his mother, Dorothy Rhine of Cuba, KS; a brother, Heath Rhine (Lori) of Belleville, KS; an Aunt, Sheril Zenger (Richard) of Belleville, KS; his mother in law, Carol Pfeifer of Spencer, NE; a sister in law, Becky Meritt of Spencer, NE; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Monty was preceded in death by his father; his father in law, Dale Meritt and his step father in law, George Pfeifer.

Joseph Andrew Dreiling, 85, died Monday, August 8, 2022, at Halsey Hall 
at the Kansas Soldiers Home in Fort Dodge, Kansas. He was born March 10,
 1937, in Garden City, Kansas, the son of Joseph P. &amp; Anna (Burgardt)
 Dreiling. 
 Joseph grew up as a young child in Holcomb, Kansas. In the early 
1940’s, he moved with his family to Garden City where he attended Garden

various jobs throughout his life including the Garden City Telegram, the
 Sugar Beet Factory, Kempers, served as manager at Western Alfalfa, 
worked for various farmers, and for the Garden City Great Western 
Railroad. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus #2795 in Garden 
City, and enjoyed spending his time hunting, shooting and reloading 
ammo, and boxing which he enjoyed teaching his grandchildren. 
 Survivors include five children Joey Dreiling of Great Bend, 
Kansas, Becky &amp; husband Kim Norton of Ankeny, Iowa, Chris &amp; wife
 Susan Dreiling of Deerfield, Kansas, Terry &amp; wife Birgit Dreiling

Kenneth Leroy Hanson Sr., age 83, of Randolph, passed away Saturday August 6, 2022, at the Salina Regional Health Center.

He was born on March 25, 1939, in Manhattan, the son of Kenneth and Leona (Jensen) Hanson.&nbsp; He graduated from old Randolph High School in 1957.

On June 1, 1958, in Salem, Missouri, he married Bonnie Jean Burkman.&nbsp; She survives of the home.

Kenneth graduated from Kansas Wesleyan University with a teaching degree and began his career at Lewis, Kansas, for two years, Randolph for two years and then Logan, Kansas for 27 years.&nbsp; During this time, he earned his master’s degree from Fort Hays State University.&nbsp; In 1997, he returned to Blue Valley to become the Middle and High School principal, retiring in 2004.&nbsp; Following his retirement, he continued to substitute teach and drive a school bus until he turned 80.

He was a member of the Alert Covenant Church and enjoyed riding horses, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren.&nbsp; During his many years of teaching and coaching, he made a positive impact on many of his students and athletes.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Kenneth Hanson Jr. and wife Debbie of Salina, Christine Marshall and husband Cullen of Solomon, John Hanson and wife Lee Ann of Baldwin City and Julie Weidenhaft and husband Brandon of Hays; three brothers, Melvin Hanson of Hutchinson, Gene Hanson of El Dorado and Steve Hanson of Manhattan; two sisters, Shirley O’Quinn of Bartow, Florida and Wanda Murphy of Milwaukie, Oregon; nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two infant sons, Stephen and Karl Hanson.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Friday, August 12, 2022, at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley, Kansas.

After a decade in Texas, the couple moved to Nebraska and Colorado before relocating to Abilene to manage ALCO’s home store in 2000. Scott was active in the Abilene community through his long-time employment with ALCO as well as his participation in Kiwanis and with the Abilene-Omitama Sister City program. Scott is survived by his wife Claire Anderson and their children, Elizabeth Anderson and Norman D. Anderson; his brothers; Martin Anderson (spouse Cari) and Kyle Anderson (spouse Julie); as well as many friends and loved ones. Leslie W. Dill, age 71, of Manhattan, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2022, at the Good Shepherd Homecare and Hospice House in Manhattan, KS. He was born January 19, 1951, in Elmore City, Oklahoma, the son of Robert and Mildred (Ferrell). He attended school in Duncan, OK where he lived for most of his childhood. Leslie served in the United States Army for 23 years. He retired at the rank of Master Sergeant after serving in both the Vietnam and Desert Storm wars. He received numerous awards and commendations for his honorable and dedicated service. Following his retirement he worked as a truck driver for Schneider Trucking. He enjoyed fishing, cooking, watching sports on TV and doing Sudoku on Facetime with his grandchildren. He was quite a story teller and was always cracking jokes and getting chuckles from funny posts and videos. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren’s activities. Leslie was preceded in death by his parents and brother Charles. Survivors include his wife, Son Nan Dill, his four children: Regina Harshaw and her husband, Ryan and daughters, Brianna and Brittany; Terry Dill; Nancy Pyle and her husband, Tristan and four children, Talon, Gavin, Owen, and Nevan; and Renata Lechien. Leslie W. Dill

Barbara Jean Hager Burwell, age 89, of Manhattan, passed away on August 6, 2022, at the Ascension Living Via Christi Village in Manhattan. She was born Barbara Jean Hermreck on November 3, 1932, the daughter of Beulah (Eyman) Hermreck Roeckers and Fred W. Hermreck in Garnett, Kansas. Barbara married Gerald Ray Hager on June 5, 1949, in Fort Scott, Kansas. They moved to Manhattan in 1958, and Barbara lived in the same home for the rest of her years. She and Ray shared 21 loving years together and were blessed with four children. Ray passed away July 26, 1971 in Manhattan. Barbara married Glen Alton Burwell on December 28, 1980. She and Glen shared 40 loving years together. They owned and operated Burwell Mobile Home Park in Ogden. Barbara was the bookkeeper and Vice President of the park. Glen passed way on March 11, 2020. Barbara always considered herself to have had two loving marriages to two very special men. Barbara attended school in Anderson County at Sugar Valley, Scipio, Longfellow, and Garnett High School. She began working at Spradlin’s Drug Store in Garnett when she was 12 years old. While in high school she was very active in band and had the amazing ability to sit down to a piano or organ and play songs by ear. Music was always very important part of her life and brought her much joy. Barbara loved her family and always went to extra lengths to make each feel special. She enjoyed baking and was always trying new dishes. She loved to provide cookies and meals to her family and friends, especially at Christmas. After moving to Manhattan, Barbara worked for Keller’s Department Store, Wonder Bread, Manhattan Laundry, and Larry’s Deluxe Cleaners. Barbara worked in the cleaning business for 32 years. After retiring she thoroughly enjoyed garage “sailing” on the weekends, finding her many treasures. They were many unexpected surprises under the Christmas tree, which brought joy, happiness and laughter to all. Barbara, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend is survived by two sons, Ronald Hager (LaNell) of Linn Creek, Missouri, and Ricky Hager of Independence, Kansas, two daughters, Linda Pittenger (Tom) of Manhattan, Kansas, and Terri Yeates of Glendale, Arizona; two stepsons, Ritch Burwell (Jan) of Riley, Kansas, and Randy Burwell (Pam) of Leawood, Kansas; also her 11 grandchildren: Rachel Goodman, Michael Hager, Travis Pittenger, Eric Pittenger, Amber Bell, Crystal Pedigo, Brant Hager, Andrea Holley, Shelly Ashburn, Brian Burwell, and Stephanie Burwell; and 24 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; her sister, Roberta Chigg Boyer, of Lawrence, Kansas, and sister-in-law Almeda Hermreck of Vero Beach, Florida. Barbara Jean Hager Burwell, age 89, of Manhattan, passed away on August 6, 2022, at the Ascension Living Via Christi Village in Manhattan. She was born Barbara Jean Hermreck on November 3, 1932, the daughter of Beulah (Eyman) Hermreck Roeckers and Fred W. Hermreck in Garnett, Kansas. Barbara married Gerald Ray Hager on June 5, 1949, in Fort Scott, Kansas. They moved to Manhattan in 1958, and Barbara lived in the same home for the rest of her years. She and Ray shared 21 loving years together and were blessed with four children. Ray passed away July 26, 1971 in Manhattan. Barbara married Glen Alton Burwell on December 28, 1980. She and Glen shared 40 loving years together. They owned and operated Burwell Mobile Home Park in Ogden. Barbara was the bookkeeper and Vice President of the park. Glen passed way on March 11, 2020. Barbara always considered herself to have had two loving marriages to two very special men. Barbara attended school in Anderson County at Sugar Valley, Scipio, Longfellow, and Garnett High School. Janet Louise “Nana” (Herrbach) Pizarek, 93, of rural Wamego, Kansas, formerly of rural LaPorte, Indiana, went to Heaven on the Feast of St. Ignatius Loyola on Sunday, July 31, 2022 at home with the comfort of her family.

Janet was born in Michigan City, Indiana joining 3 older brothers and 1 older sister. She attended One-Room Eddyville Schoolhouse having a Miss Sullivan as the teacher, then Coolspring Township Grade School when it was built, graduating from Elston Senior High School in 1947. Throughout her childhood and in school, she was referred to as “Jeanette”, but when she requested her birth certificate prior to her Marriage, she discovered that her name had been misspelled on her birth certificate, so her legal name was actually “Janet.” From then on she took the name Janet, with only a few schoolmates referring to her as “Jeanette.” Even though she was raised in St John’s United Church of Christ, she was always drawn to Catholic religious beliefs, mostly through a very close relationship with a special Aunt Mary and Uncle Frank, whom she visited and stayed with often during vacations in Chicago, where they lived. They were Catholic and took her to Mass with them, so at 18, she “took instructions” and joined the Catholic Church, living her life as a devoted Catholic convert. She was a strong-willed woman devoted to her beliefs, who was more interested in being outside doing yard and farm work, enjoying nature, rather than reading or doing housework.

Being born of immigrants from France and Germany, Janet was raised in a strict household where her parents sometimes talked in their native tongues of French and German, yet Janet only spoke English. Unfortunately, she was never able to know any grandparents, since they had all died in Europe prior to her birth. It’s interesting to note that her parents met when they were in the wedding party for her Dad’s brother marrying her Mom’s sister, and Janet’s husband’s parents met when they were in the wedding party at the marriage of their siblings, too.

As a young girl Janet was a tom-boy, enjoying actively helping her Dad on the family farm in the fields, gardens, and with livestock, since she was decades younger than her siblings, who were 22, 20, 12, and 9. Being born in the year of the “Great Depression”, she grew up in simpler times, spending much time in her childhood at the “Log Cabin Restaurant” that her family built and managed to earn money during a time when jobs were scarce. She talked fondly about the activities there and in the adjoining dance hall. Since Highway 20 had recently gone thru their property, her older adult brothers built the “Nu-20 Garage” where she enjoyed hanging out, as well. She laughed often about the stories she recalled about the “cops” who were there often getting work done on their vehicles, and how they would swoop her up onto their motorcycles whisking her away on a fun ride. Yes, those were very different times. She loved working with and riding horses, even after she had disobeyed by riding a work horse when she was 11 and getting drug through a barbed wire fence, almost losing her arm, requiring 200+ stitches. She got loose and dragged her mangled self to the “Nu-20” where an officer immediately threw her in a squad car, rushing her to the hospital! Her arm was only saved, because a new energetic Doctor Gardner was on the case. She had a very close relationship with her Dad, being devastated by his unexpected death when she was only 16. After hauling a load of manure, he had reclined in a chair, asking her to do the chores because he couldn’t, and while she was in the barn he had a heart attack.

When Jacob Pizarek discharged from the Army in 1946, he drove a school bus on which there was a Senior girl with whom he had an interest. Janet was someone whom he had known since her birth, since their fathers were really good friends. One day when he was about 10 and she was about 4, his Dad said, “Go over there and sit on that log next to her, as you might marry her someday.” On April 24, 1948 Janet married Jacob Clement Pizarek at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church in Michigan City, Indiana. Janet had recently converted and received her other Sacraments there - Penance, 1st Holy Communion, and Confirmation. The couple’s 2 children attended 12 years of Catholic education there. In later years they joined Queen of All Saints Catholic Parish in Michigan City.

Janet was a member of Coolspring Township Farm Bureau, both St. Mary’s and QAS Rosary Sodality, and had served as a Leader for several years of the Coolspring Champs 4-H Club. She enjoyed the LaPorte County Fair, watching daughter, Cherie, showing Beef, Sheep, Dog, Chickens, and Rabbits, plus she always offered helpful ideas of creativity for Cherie to develop in her other projects such as Foods, Arts/Crafts, Photography, Conservation posters, and Flowers. She loved gardening and growing beautiful flowers, especially many varieties of daylilies and iris. “Nana” enjoyed playing pinochle and solitaire. She loved all kinds of animals, especially always having at least one dog until later years, with Dobermans as her favorite or Rottweilers, and she even had a dog that was part Wolf, thus she collected wolf items, as people gave them to her as gifts. When her oldest grandson, Cory, was little, she got a unique pet for him – “Candy Goat”. After Cherie was out of 4-H and moved away, “Nana” and “Papa” continued raising her Hereford heifer, plus a few other cows, and fattened calves. Cats were always outdoor pets, until the last 15-20 years when she switched her allegiance from dogs to cats, captured some wild feral cats in humane living traps, and invited them to live in the house with her. The only remaining one, “Tipper” laid on her bed keeping vigil with “Nana” as she took her last breaths here on Earth.

After high school graduation, Janet worked as counter help and secretarial duties at a Goodyear Tire Store. During their early married life, Jacob with Janet and their young son “Tommy”, travelled the country taking jobs mostly on Dairy Farms in New Mexico, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, and then back in Indiana. When “Papa” was asked recently why he married “Nana” he replied, “I never found another woman who could outwork her – right along side of me – she could work like any man!” Janet was always willing to help get the job done. She was never afraid to throw hay bales, plus she worked for decades picking apples; trimming, tying, and picking grapes; and waiting on customers in her sister’s fruit and vegetable farm market.

Janet, along with Jacob, had a very special relationship with their grandchildren. Cory had spent much of his early childhood at their house while Cherie was teaching and taking additional college classes, so he loved rides on the tractor, lawn mower, and helping with all sorts of yard chores. Even though most of their grandchildren grew up in Kansas, she looked forward to their visits and they loved learning many life and farm skills from “Nana” and “Papa”. Having Gemma living only 4 miles away, gave her much satisfaction being able to interact with her much more often. Seeing and spending time with her great-grandsons recently, always put a twinkle in her eyes.

Janet led a long life, gardening and puttering around on her John Deere lawn tractor until less than 2 years ago. She loved to mow grass. Due to declining health, she and Jacob moved to Wamego, Kansas to be cared for by their son-in-law and daughter in November 2020. “Nana” was happy to reconnect with grandson Cory and be able to see her Kansas raised grandchildren more frequently. A special thank you to Father Ryan McCandless, and Father Gale Hammerschmidt for visiting with her at home and giving her comfort recently with Last Rights.
