The Manhattan City Commission approved an agreement Tuesday night with Kimley-Horn to assist the City in conducting an ADA Self-Evaluation of City facilities, parks, sidewalks, intersections, and curb ramps, along with a review of other city programs and policies. In addition, the City will develop a long-range transition plan to identify any barriers that may exist and offer a phased schedule with cost estimates for the removal of any barriers that cannot be resolved through relocation of services, the provision of auxiliary aids, or equivalent facilitation.

The City conducted its last ADA Self-Evaluation in 1992 when the Americans with Disabilities Act was created. The process is expected to take 12 months to complete, and will include public outreach and the creation of a external advisory committee comprising disability advocates, individuals with disabilities, and general members of the public. In the coming months, the City will provide more information related to this committee and how residents can participate.
