David Patrick “Pat” Butler, 77, passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at Meadowlark Hills in Manhattan, Kansas. He was born on November 15, 1947, and raised in Downey, California. Since 2021, Pat had been a resident at Meadowlark Hills, where he received compassionate care.

Pat was the son of George and Bertha (Birch) Butler. In 1973, he married Jean Butler, and together they raised two children in Wamego, Kansas. After their divorce in 1999,he returned to California, where he spent several years working as a handyman and enjoying his love of surfing.

A dedicated firefighter, Pat served for 18 ½ years with the Fort Riley Fire Department, ending his career as a Captain. He was also a volunteer firefighter with the Wamego Fire Department, where he became a certified rescue diver. In addition to his firefighting career, Pat worked as a used car salesman, a salesman at KAWQ Radio Station, owned a lumber yard for a short period, and was involved in construction.

Pat proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. His exposure to Agent Orange during his service contributed to his later struggles with Parkinson’s disease. As his condition progressed, he moved back to Kansas to be near his daughter.

Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community and its Parkinson’s Program provided him with exceptional care and support. One of his favorite activities was the Speedy PD, a race benefiting the Parkinson’s Program. He also enjoyed bus trips with Brennan, counting the bumps along the way and convincing her to take trips to Wamego. At Meadowlark, he took great pride in managing “his staff”, always offering guidance and loving every minute of it.

Pat is survived by his daughter, Stacie Eichem (Paul) of Wamego; his son, Benjamin Butler (Patricia) of Vienna, Austria; four grandchildren, Cambrey Eichem of Manhattan, Josh Eichem of Overland Park, Jake Eichem (Paige) of Wamego, and Oskar Butler-Tschen of Vienna, Austria; a great-granddaughter; his brother, Jim Butler (Betsy) of The Villages, Florida; and his dear friend, Julie Hale and her two children, of California.

Cremation arrangements are under the care of Campanella &amp; Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego. As per Pat’s wishes, no traditional service will be held; instead, a private gathering will take place at a later date.

Darrell D. McClain, 84, of Clay Center, Kansas died on Friday, March 21, 2025 at Wakefield Care and Rehabilitation Center in Wakefield, Kansas.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 5, 2025, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Clay Center with Reverend Paul Tessaro officiating.

Darrell was born November 21, 1940, in Norton, Kansas the son of Deyo and Velva (Campbell) McClain.

Darrell grew up on a farm. Growing up on a farm, he learned the value of hard work. During that time, he learned many trades. The trades he learned helped shape the rest of his life with a good work ethic. His main vocation was a truck driver. He had the nickname of "Smiley". He was kind to everyone and never met a stranger. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need.

Darrell loved the mountains so much he moved his family to Montana. He enjoyed hunting, snowmobiling, riding in his Jeep on the mountain roads. He enjoyed any type of outdoor adventure and also helped with various forest fires.

On June 4, 1961, he married Bette "Jean" Miller in Norton, Kansas. They were married for sixty four years.

Survivors include his wife Jean of Clay Center, Kansas; one son, Stacey McClain; one daughter, Vicki Score; four grandchildren, Elmer Schulze, Jamie Hoehn, Tiffani Hoehn and Alex McClain; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Jerald McClain.

&nbsp;Leslie Michelle Silva, 55, a devout Christian of Ogden, Kansas, returned to God on Tuesday (March 4, 2025) at St. Luke Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri after many years fighting illness.

&nbsp; &nbsp;She was born in Farmington, New Mexico on March 8, 1969, to Harvey Dodson and Teresa “Teri” McCabe. On December 21, 2007 Leslie married the love of her life, Margarito Silva in Alma, Kansas. They first met as associates between 1982-1983, when Leslie was around 13 and was hanging out with his younger brothers at the house on Yuma. Their love story began in 2005 and blossomed when Leslie offered comfort and support upon the passing of Margarito’s brother, Adam. They have been inseparable since.

&nbsp; &nbsp;Leslie was a devoted Christian who cherished the teachings of Jesus Christ and took solace in knowing that the Lord was always watching over her and her family. Gifted with an exceptionally nurturing heart, Leslie was passionate about caring for those around her as well as any animal that crossed her path. Leslie especially loved being a grandmother and spending time with her grandchildren. Through all her ailments, she always managed to put her family first. She was an outstanding cook and enjoyed feeding her loved ones. Her Cherry Christmas Cake was a family favorite during the holidays. Leslie left a huge impact on those around her and will be missed by many.

Sam McGowan left us on March 19, 2025 in Manhattan, KS. He was born to Barbara (Waldorf) McGowan and Harold McGowan in Winfield, KS on October 15, 1947.

Sam loved his beer and westerns but more than that he loved his family that he built with Sally McGowan. He worked hard to provide for all the kids, grandkids, and great grandkids that came through their door. Sam took great pride in his home in the country and made it a truly special place for his family and friends. He was a career plumber but in his heart he was a farmer who raised cattle. He will always be remembered as someone that would give the shirt off his back.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Sally; three sons, Paul Cassity (Tena) of Hartford, KS, John Cassity (Cindy) of Alma, KS and James Cassity (Karen) of Grayslake, IL; eleven grandchildren, Wyatt Fairchild (Jesse), Maggie Fairchild, Josh Johnson, Cole Cassity (DiShannon), Cord Cassity (Alexus), Nikki Cassity, Dakota Cassity, Alison Cassity (Joe), Emily Cassity, Sadie Cassity and Cade Cassity; and twelve great grandchildren.

Thomas Wayne Baum of Tecumseh, Nebraska, a lifelong rancher and cowboy, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2025, in Wamego, Kansas.

He was born on December 6, 1958, in Norfolk, Nebraska, the son of Glen and Mary Lou (Wood) Baum. He was a 1977 graduate of Tecumseh High School.

Tom was a hard worker with a knack for storytelling. His life always revolved around the outdoors. He loved caring for his cattle and riding good horses, and his dog was usually his best friend and sidekick. He enjoyed team roping and fishing. He had his own business for a time, sandblasting and painting oil wells throughout Kansas, then he was a truck driver for a number of years, hauling cattle.

Tom married Mickie Saunders in 1979 and they had three children. He later married Teresa (Young) Wissler in 2016.

Tom is survived by his sons, Shane (Kristen) Baum and Daniel (Lindsey) Baum both of Wamego; his granddaughters Makayla, Chloe, Austyn, Regan, and Madisyn Baum; and his grandsons Brett and Zane Morgan, and Spencer Baum.

He is also survived by his siblings, brother Bill Baum of Tecumseh, brother John Baum and sister-in-law Susan Baum of Tecumseh, and sister Sharon (Galen) Kuska of Exeter, NE; along with many nieces and nephews.

Robert Andrew Prockish, 96, of Wamego, Kansas, died Saturday, March 15, 2025, at the Midland Hospice House in Topeka. He was a life-long resident of the community.

&nbsp; Robert was born on July 16, 1928, in Union Township in Pottawatomie County, Kansas, the son of Andrew and Genevieve (Eckart) Prockish Jr. He attended grade school and graduated from Flush High School in 1946.

&nbsp; He married Barbara Lee Nye on January 4, 1950, in Flush, Kansas. They shared over sixty-two years together until her death on November 15, 2012.

&nbsp; Robert worked most of his adult life in the construction business. He was a crane operator for several years and then became a construction supervisor with Bayer Construction. After his retirement, he was a courtesy van driver for Briggs Auto Group in Manhattan until he was 85 years old. He enjoyed square dancing, playing cards, especially Pitch and Pinochle, and playing Wahoo. He also enjoyed camping. He was an active member of St. Bernard Catholic Church and served as a Eucharistic Minister. He was a Third Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.

Robert Andrew Prockish

Edna Mae Quinton of Junction City, KS was born on March 31, 1926, to Charles Smart and Mary Eliza Gregg in Kingston, Jamaica. She was baptized into the Catholic faith and accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior. In 1945, she moved to San Juan, Puerto Rico where she met James E Quinton Sr, a career soldier, and spent the next 23 years traveling the world with her family of thirteen children. She made Junction City her home after her travels and became a member of the St. Xavier Parish. 

She was a career civil service employee and retired after working at Irwin Army Hospital. She attended Kansas State University where she majored in Art and later produced many award-winning pieces. She went on to start her own business named “Edna’s Crafts and Things” where she displayed her paintings and ceramic figurines at fairs and events around Kansas. She was a master seamstress and created many majestic dolls and doll clothing, not to mention the many costumes made for her children’s and grandchildren’s theater and dance performances. 

She was a member and past President of VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 8773 4th District, a past member of Military Catholic Council of Women (MCCW), member of Business and Professional Women Organization and a member of Saint Xavier Catholic Church. She served as a board member of the Junction City Salvation Army for many years, and she was also a member of Saint Xavier Circle One.

Edna Mae passed away on March 18, 2025, of natural cause at Valley View Senior Life Center in Junction City, KS. She was surrounded by her family and friends.She is in preceded in death by her mother Mary Eliza Gregg, father Charles Smart, husband James E Quinton Sr, son Desmond E Wilkinson, daughter Shurla A. Edna Mae Quinton of Junction City, KS was born on March 31, 1926, to Charles Smart and Mary Eliza Gregg in Kingston, Jamaica. She was baptized into the Catholic faith and accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior. In 1945, she moved to San Juan, Puerto Rico where she met James E Quinton Sr, a career soldier, and spent the next 23 years traveling the world with her family of thirteen children. She made Junction City her home after her travels and became a member of the St. Xavier Parish. She was a career civil service employee and retired after working at Irwin Army Hospital. She attended Kansas State University where she majored in Art and later produced many award-winning pieces. She went on to start her own business named “Edna’s Crafts and Things” where she displayed her paintings and ceramic figurines at fairs and events around Kansas. She was a master seamstress and created many majestic dolls and doll clothing, not to mention the many costumes made for her children’s and grandchildren’s theater and dance performances. She was a member and past President of VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 8773 4th District, a past member of Military Catholic Council of Women (MCCW), member of Business and Professional Women Organization and a member of Saint Xavier Catholic Church. She served as a board member of the Junction City Salvation Army for many years, and she was also a member of Saint Xavier Circle One.Edna Mae passed away on March 18, 2025, of natural cause at Valley View Senior Life Center in Junction City, KS. SSG (Ret.) Fredrick (Fred) Merrell Sessum, 74, of Manhattan, passed away March 9, surrounded by family members in a Topeka hospital. He was born June 26, 1950, in Grenada, Miss.

Fred’s honorable service in the Army led him to deploy to multiple areas overseas and respond to conflicts, including time in Korea, the Iran-Iraq War, the Gulf War, and Operation Iraqi Freedom. For his service, he was awarded a Bronze Star.

Fred was an active member in many organizations, including the American Legion (Earl C. Gormley American Legion Post 45, Junction City, and the Pierce-Keller American Legion Post 17, Manhattan), the Fraternal Order of Eagles, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the American Legion Riders.

Elsie Wittor, 96, of Junction City, Kansas died on Wednesday, March 5, 2025 at Valley View Senior Life Center in Junction City. Cremation will take place. A graveside service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 14, 2025 at Highland Cemetery.

Elsie was born July 16, 1928, in Bodenbach, Czechoslovakia the daughter of William and Frieda (Winkler) Possoldo.

Elsie married Emil Wittor. He died November 30, 2003.

For many years, Elsie was a food server at Central National Bank in Junction City, Kansas. Elsie enjoyed watching television and shopping at the mall.

Connie was born in Grand Island, Nebraska to Howard McAhren and Marie Rathman on August 28, 1946.

She married Steve Havener on February 24, 1970, in Novato, California and had two children.

Jenny was a mother of one beautiful daughter and a grandmother to two wonderful grandchildren. Her passion in life was to be a loving mother and caring grandmother. Julia loves the country band Alabama. She would drive her car across the country to see their concerts. Sometimes, she went with her sister Sharon, other times with close friends, and a few times by herself. The highlight of the concerts was when she actually got to meet them and have her picture taken with them! That is what excited her the most.&nbsp;

In Junction City, Julia worked for the public defenders office and various law firms. She loved horses, dogs and gardening. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Covenant. Julia loved spending time with her family.&nbsp;

She married Jerry Lee Adams on August 28, 2004. He died March 26, 2015.

Waltraud (Wally) Gertrude Bammes, 86, of Abilene, KS, formerly of Wamego and Junction City, KS passed away February 20, 2025. Waltraud was born January 30, 1939 to Emil and Pauline Rosine Heller Hoelle, in Illingen, Germany at the beginning of World War II. She immigrated to the United States in 1959 coming through Ellis Island to join her fiancé and later husband, Helmut Cordier. They were married May 11, 1960 in Huntington, NY. Of this union were 3 daughters, Isabel, Judy, and Elizabeth. After Helmut died on February 19, 1964 she moved to Kansas with her daughters. On November 20, 1966 she married Emory Strauss. Of this union came a son, Michael. They later divorced. He too proceeds her in death. She married Larry Bammes on April 8, 1995. He proceeded her in death January 2018.

Wally is survived by her daughters Isabel Schmedemann, Herington, Judy (Gradon) Fielder, Chapman, Elizabeth (Douglas) Schonberner, Georgetown, TX. Her son, Michael (Christina) Strauss, Junction City. She is survived by a brother, Ulrich Hoelle, sister, Liesellotte Pohl, stepbrother Manfried Klein, all of Germany. She is preceded in death by her parents, son-in-law Ralph Schmedemann, her brother Helmut Hoelle, sisters, Adelheid Mader, Margarete Painter, Erika Dlugosch. She is also survived by grandchildren, Brent (Lisa) Fielder, Kasey (Lacey) Fielder, Katelin Schmedemann, Henry Schmedemann, Emil (Nichole) Strauss and Meghan (Jonathan) Bechard. Her precious great grandchildren, Wyatt, Grason, Lillian, Landyn, Wesley, Vincent, Sylvia, Skylar, Destiney, and Cameron, as well as many nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

Wally had a life that was turbulent and full of ups and downs, but it was her resilience, humor, stubbornness, and a daily spoonful of sauerkraut that saw her through most things. Wally worked as a jeweler’s assistant and then as a waitress in her younger years in Germany. It was at the restaurant in her village that she met her husband Helmut. She followed him to America where they operated a delicatessen on Long Island, NY. Shortly after his death, she moved to Kansas and eventually married Emory Strauss, dairy farmer that she met through church in Junction City. She farmed with him and her children for many years and was the manager of the local Hallmark store in Junction City, as well. They divorced and she moved to Manhattan. She worked in central processing as a clerk at St. Mary Hospital for several years. Soon she met and married Larry Bammes, an electrician. After they married, she helped him with his electrician business. They retired together and lived on the outskirts of Wamego where they worked together and grew beautiful gardens full of tomatoes, and cantaloupes. After Larry’s death, she moved to Herington and then to Abilene and saw her family as much as she could.&nbsp;

Wally loved listening to Elvis Presley and it didn’t take long for her to be dancing to his beat. She would tell anyone who would listen that he was the greatest singer/performer ever.

&nbsp;Wally has been cremated, and a future burial is planned at this time.&nbsp;

As Wally was always a defender of and advocate for children, a memorial has been established to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Patricia L. Stewart died Monday Feb. 17, 2025 at the age of 93 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan.&nbsp;

She was born and lived her early years in Missouri, teaching English in Richmond, MO after graduation from Central Missouri State College. A master’s degree from the University of Colorado followed, and then she began work on a Ph.D. at the University of Kansas where she met and married her husband, Donald. After one year there, they moved to Madison where she completed all the course work for a doctoral degree at the University of Wisconsin. At both KU and Wisconsin, she was employed as a teaching assistant. Following her schooling, she worked as a library assistant at the University of Wisconsin library. The couple spent summers during this time in Yellowstone National Park where Don was employed as a Naturalist in the National Park Service. Quarters there were primitive with no electricity or running water and as a result, she learned how to cook on a wood stove and manage food storage and cooking. The Yellowstone experience, coupled with long hikes in the back country and canyons of nearby Grand Teton National Park nourished her love of the outdoors.

Shortly after the birth of their first child, Ellen, the family moved to Champaign-Urbana where Don secured his first position at the University of Illinois. Pat briefly taught in the English department then worked at home for a typing agency after the birth of their second child, Mary. After six years in Illinois, the family moved to Kansas where Don joined the English Department at Kansas State University. She continued typing theses at home then returned to teaching at KSU from 1977 to 1994.

Music was always her passion. Pat studied piano and clarinet performance and served as an accompanist in the Music Department at Central Missouri State College. In Wisconsin, she studied viola and joined the Madison String Sinfonia for which she also wrote program notes for the performances. In Illinois and Kansas, she was an occasional member of string quartets and community orchestras.

Volunteerism was also very important to Pat. She helped with Girl Scouts, Sunday school and the Manhattan branch of Habitat for Humanity in its fledgling years. In addition, she took her dog Sparky for weekly visits to Stoneybrook Retirement Center for 12 years and delivered Meals on Wheels for 20 years.

Reading and writing were constant activities as well. Pat wrote frequent book reviews for the Manhattan Mercury, co-authored a textbook, The Eclectic Reader, and wrote The Life and Legacy of Fred Newton Scott from research left by her husband upon his death in 1992.

In 1977 she was nominated for the College of Arts and Sciences Outstanding Undergraduate teacher at KSU and received the William Stamey Distinguished Undergraduate Teaching award in 1989.

Patricia L. Stewart died Monday Feb. 17, 2025 at the age of 93 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan.&nbsp;She was born and lived her early years in Missouri, teaching English in Richmond, MO after graduation from Central Missouri State College. A master’s degree from the University of Colorado followed, and then she began work on a Ph.D. at the University of Kansas where she met and married her husband, Donald. After one year there, they moved to Madison where she completed all the course work for a doctoral degree at the University of Wisconsin. At both KU and Wisconsin, she was employed as a teaching assistant. Following her schooling, she worked as a library assistant at the University of Wisconsin library. The couple spent summers during this time in Yellowstone National Park where Don was employed as a Naturalist in the National Park Service. Quarters there were primitive with no electricity or running water and as a result, she learned how to cook on a wood stove and manage food storage and cooking. The Yellowstone experience, coupled with long hikes in the back country and canyons of nearby Grand Teton National Park nourished her love of the outdoors.Shortly after the birth of their first child, Ellen, the family moved to Champaign-Urbana where Don secured his first position at the University of Illinois. Pat briefly taught in the English department then worked at home for a typing agency after the birth of their second child, Mary. After six years in Illinois, the family moved to Kansas where Don joined the English Department at Kansas State University. She continued typing theses at home then returned to teaching at KSU from 1977 to 1994.Music was always her passion. Pat studied piano and clarinet performance and served as an accompanist in the Music Department at Central Missouri State College. In Wisconsin, she studied viola and joined the Madison String Sinfonia for which she also wrote program notes for the performances. In Illinois and Kansas, she was an occasional member of string quartets and community orchestras.Volunteerism was also very important to Pat. She helped with Girl Scouts, Sunday school and the Manhattan branch of Habitat for Humanity in its fledgling years. In addition, she took her dog Sparky for weekly visits to Stoneybrook Retirement Center for 12 years and delivered Meals on Wheels for 20 years.Reading and writing were constant activities as well. Fred was born November 18, 1932, in Coopersville, Michigan the son of Fred W. and Dorothy (DeCann) Voshel.

Fred graduated from Coopersville High School. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1953 and was honorably discharged in 1957. During his time in the Army, he was stationed in Germany and Fort Riley, Kansas.&nbsp;

Fred worked in the Junction City area from 1957 until 1995. During that time, he worked for Dunn Moving and Storage, Geary County Sheriff's Department, Mid America Machine Corporation and did construction work on Fort Riley.&nbsp;

Fred enjoyed working in his yard and going to the lake. Part of his daily routine included going to McDonalds Coffee Club and visiting with his friends. He was an avid Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas State Wildcats fan. Fred was also a good woodworker and enjoyed making things for friends and family.

On October 15, 1960 he married Betty A. Stone in Junction City, Kansas.

Ralph "Webb" Davis, 100, of Junction City, Kansas died on Thursday, February 20, 2025 at Valley View Senior Life Center in Junction City, Kansas.

Webb wished to be cremated. A private graveside service will take place at Highland Cemetery. A public memorial service will take place 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2025 at First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Huber Kemper officiating.&nbsp;

Webb was born July 2, 1924, in Aullville, Missouri the son of Willie C. and Glenna S. (Burrow) Davis.&nbsp;

He attended the Aullville Missouri schools. He graduated from Malta Bend Senior High School with the class of 1941.&nbsp;

Webb had many occupations in Junction City. On December 2, 1954, he became the manager of the A&amp;P Grocery Store on 7th Street. After refusing a transfer with A&amp;P, he became a licensed insurance salesman with Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. He later owned and operated the Western Auto Store in Junction City. After selling the store, he operated Webb's Small Engine Repair where he sold and repaired lawn mowers and chain saws.

Webb loved his family and tried to be a friend to everyone. He enjoyed attending church, fixing things, fishing, hunting, playing golf, traveling, singing and spending time at the cabin at Council Grove Lake.&nbsp;

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder and deacon. Webb was a charter member of the Sertoma Club, Fraternal Order of Eagles #595 and of the Elks Lodge #1037 where he served as the exalted ruler for two terms.&nbsp;

On July 8, 1945, he married Willa A. Lawson. She died March 18, 1961. He later married Marjorie L. Gfeller Gatza on June 10, 1962. She died August 3, 2020.

Survivors include one daughter Karen Flynn and her husband Dennis of Crossville, Tennessee; two step-daughter-in-laws, Kay Gatza and Theresa Gatza; five grandchildren, Richard Gatza, Brent Gatza, Michele Hamilton, Eric Flynn and Lindsay Bourisaw and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Joseph Davis and four sisters, Marie, Wylma, Sally and Frances; two step-sons, Daryl and Dale Gatza.&nbsp;

Carol Auld, died Saturday the 8th of February, surrounded by family.

Carol was born in 1938 in Milford, Kansas, the daughter of John and Fern Mellinger. Carol spent her childhood playing piano, singing, playing multiple sports, basketball and cheerleading, and going to church with her parents and siblings, Bobbi and Jerry.

After high school, Carol received a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy from The University of Kansas. She was a proud member of Sigma Kappa Sorority.

Carol met the love of her life, Robert Auld, and wed in 1961. They welcomed their first child, Robert Scott, in 1963. And their daughter, Rebecca Dawn, in 1964. In the spring of 1967 they moved to Kennewick, Washington, and bought a 15-acre property in Finley, Washington. They were married for 57 years before Robert passed away.

Carol loved to camp and fish with her friends and family. In her later years, she renewed her love of sewing and took up quilting and bird watching.

She is survived by her siblings, Roberta Bruce and Jerry Mellinger, her children, Scott Auld and Rebecca McLaughlin, her grandchild, Haley Mackie, and her great grandchildren Aiden William and Avery June whom brought great joy to her later years.

Joseph Pearce Miller, Jr., 87, of Junction City, Kansas, crossed over to his next life on February 13, 2025. Cremation has taken place and a private memorial service may be scheduled at a later date.

He was born June 7, 1937 in Dover, Delaware, the second of two boys. His parents were Mary R. (Oliphant) Miller and Joseph P. Miller, Sr.

Joseph graduated from Dover High School in Dover, Delaware in 1955. He received an A.B. degree in 1959 from Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and then attend the University of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he earned a Masters in Social Work with honors in 1961. He then received a Ph.D. in social work in 1974 from the same university.

Dr. Miller married Joan Bowler in 1959 in Dover, Delaware, and they divorced many years later. They had a son and a daughter. He then married Rebecca M. Clouse on September 29, 1984 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. They had no children together but Rebecca adopted his daughter in June of 2013.

He was employed as a social worker at the Summit County Receiving Hospital in Cuyahoga Fall, Ohio, post-masters degree. While serving as a First Lieutenant in the United State Air Force from 1962-1965, Dr. Miller was the Chief Psychiatric Social Worker at the Neuropsychiatric Clinic in Tachakawa, Japan. Several years later, he was discharged from the inactive reserves at the rank of Captain. During the next 18 years, he became a full professor in the Graduate School of Social Work at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan. During that time, he also had a private clinical practice. After marrying in Oklahoma, he moved to New Castle, Indiana, and was employed as an outpatient therapist and certified alcohol/drug counselor at Comprehensive Mental Health Services and taught courses at Indiana University. In 1989, he moved to Junction City, Kansas, where he was an outpatient therapist and certified alcohol/drug counselor at Pawnee Mental Health Services until he retired in 2003.

Dr. Miller discovered his acting talent at Junction City Little Theatre in 1994 and performed in numerous productions over many years. A man of many talents, he created collages which were on exhibit at the Junction City Arts Council Gallery in 2008. During retirement, he was involved in may volunteer activities including Hospice Services, the Bramlage Public Library homebound services, and the Geary Community Hospital Auxiliary. Dr. Miller sat on the Board of Directors for C.A.S.A., Geary County Chapter of the American Red Cross, Junction City Little Theatre, Junction City Little Theatre Foundation, Junction City Arts Council, and Friends of the Library. He was also a member of the Junction City Human Relations Commission for several years.

Membership in professional organizations included the National Association of Social Workers, Academy of Certified Social Workers, Council on Social Work Education, National Council on Family Relations, Planned Parenthood and World Population, American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors and Therapists, and Michigan Association for Emotionally Disturbed Children. Over the course of his career, he received a number of awards and professional recognition at state and national levels.

Michael A. Holt, 82 of Abilene passed away February 9, 2025. He was born June 5, 1942 in Abilene, the son of Elzie and Lyda (Parsons) Holt. He grew up in the Abilene area and attended the local schools. On January 14, 1962 he married his high school sweet heart Patricia Schmidt in Abilene at the First Baptist Church. 

Mike worked various jobs throughout his life including Turkey Farm, Dry wall, Boogaarts Produce, owned and operated Holt Motors Inc. for 30 years as well as Northwood Inc. from 1994 to present. 

Mike is survived by his loving wife Pat of the home. Two daughters: Pamela (Bob) Sims and Angela (Mike) Wehling. Granddaughter: Tara (Kalen) Robison. Grandsons: Cody (Amanda) Sims; Bradley (Emily) Wehling; Nicholas (Angie) Wehling and Jonathan (McKenna) Wehling. Great-Grandsons: Austin Tweady; Kipton Robison; Charlie Wehling. Great-Granddaughters: Macy Wehling; Riley Wehling and Rudie Wehling and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elzie and Lyda Holt. Melody F. Rutschmann, 65, of Wamego, Kansas, passed away on Saturday (February 8, 2025) at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas.

&nbsp;Born July 3, 1959 in Manhattan, Kansas, Melody was the daughter of Charles and Fredele “Ruth” (Kensing) Lake III. She married Jim C. Rutschmann on February 14, 1990 in Manhattan, Kansas. He survives.

&nbsp;Melody was an accomplished cook and enjoyed reading, arts &amp; crafts, crocheting and going camping with Jim.

&nbsp;Melody devoted her life to caring for her husband and children. She cherished the time she shared with family, especially her grandchildren who will miss their grandma dearly.

&nbsp;Survivors include her husband, Jim; her mother, Fredele “Ruth” Lake of Alma, KS; three children, Josh Lake (Stephanie) of Golden Valley, MN, Sam Rutschmann (Amy Miernicki) of Wamego and Jennifer Rutschmann (Marshall Musser) of Wamego; her five grandchildren, Zayne Reed, Henry Lake, Elizabeth Lake, Reese Musser and Tripp Musser; two brothers, John Schoenberner and Charles “Charlie” Lake IV (Mary); two sisters, Angie Harrison and Charmin Miller (Dan); and several nieces and nephews.

&nbsp;Melody was preceded in death by her father, Charles.

&nbsp;Cremation arrangements are in the care of Campanella &amp; Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego. The family will host a celebration of life for Melody at a later date.

Rutschmann, 65, of Wamego, Kansas, passed away on Saturday (February 8, 2025) at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas.&nbsp;Born July 3, 1959 in Manhattan, Kansas, Melody was the daughter of Charles and Fredele “Ruth” (Kensing) Lake III. She married Jim C. Rutschmann on February 14, 1990 in Manhattan, Kansas. He survives.&nbsp;Melody was an accomplished cook and enjoyed reading, arts &amp; crafts, crocheting and going camping with Jim.&nbsp;Melody devoted her life to caring for her husband and children. She cherished the time she shared with family, especially her grandchildren who will miss their grandma dearly.&nbsp;Survivors include her husband, Jim; her mother, Fredele “Ruth” Lake of Alma, KS; three children, Josh Lake (Stephanie) of Golden Valley, MN, Sam Rutschmann (Amy Miernicki) of Wamego and Jennifer Rutschmann (Marshall Musser) of Wamego; her five grandchildren, Zayne Reed, Henry Lake, Elizabeth Lake, Reese Musser and Tripp Musser; two brothers, John Schoenberner and Charles “Charlie” Lake IV (Mary); two sisters, Angie Harrison and Charmin Miller (Dan); and several nieces and nephews.&nbsp;Melody was preceded in death by her father, Charles.&nbsp;Cremation arrangements are in the care of Campanella &amp; Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego. The family will host a celebration of life for Melody at a later date.&nbsp;Memorial donations are suggested to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital and those may be sent to Campanella &amp; Stewart Funeral Home, P. O. Box 48, Wamego, KS 66547.

Debra K. Marfield, age 70, died on February 10, 2025, at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan.She was born on December 23, 1954, in Manhattan, KS to John C. Krienitz and Janice R. (Lund) Krienitz. 

Debra graduated from Manhattan High School in 1972. Shortly thereafter she began working at Farm Bureau Insurance, where she met the love of her life. On January 23, 1981, she was united in marriage to Walter L. Marfield. After getting married, Debra began working as a legal assistant at Arthur-Green LLP in Manhattan, a job she excelled at until her retirement in 2014. 

She was also a proud member of First Christian Church, serving her Lord and Savior as a deacon, treasurer, officer of the disciple's women's group and loving friend to all. She was always there to lend a hand, whether that meant helping with children in the nursery, coordinating rides for those who needed one, or even taking it upon herself to learn how to use technology when an A/V substitute was needed. More often than not, though, she would just brighten a room with her trademark smile and a plate of homemade treats.Debra also dedicated herself to delivering Meals on Wheels weekly upon retirement. 

Taking after her mother, she never met a stranger and always had a kind word when you needed it. Everyone on her route adored her, and she adored them right back. It made her day to put a smile on the face of someone who needed it, and she always carried dog biscuits for all the pups on her route. In everything she did, she led with the love and kindness she will always be remembered for. She will be dearly missed by so many, but those who knew and loved her will be forever grateful for every minute spent in her presence.

She is also survived by two sons, Wesley Marfield of Kansas City, MO, and Travis (Amanda) Marfield of Wamego, KS and two grandchildren, Clayton Marfield and Madyson Marfield of Wamego, KS. Also surviving is her sister, Marcia Finn of Manhattan, KS.Debra was preceded in death by her parents.Visitation with the family will be held Friday, February 14 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home in Manhattan.Celebration of life service is planned for Saturday, February 15 at 10:00 a.m. at First Christian Church, 3001 Grand Mere Parkway in Manhattan.

Lannie J. Tsuneo, 63, of Junction City, Kansas passed away on February 8, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Cremation has taken place and her family will lay her to rest in her beloved home of Palau.&nbsp;

&nbsp;She was born on February 24, 1961, to Nakamoto and Iyoko Tsuneo in Palau.&nbsp;

Lannie worked as a secretary for George B. Harris Elementary School in Palau. She retired in that position after many dedicated years of service.&nbsp;

She married Pasqual Ongos and started their family on their beloved island.&nbsp;

Lannie is survived by her loving husband; three sons, Lamar Thomas, Naythen Derbai, and Rengiil Derbai; two sisters, Evelyn Singeo and Maria Inabo; one brother, Nolan Tsuneo and a host of loving grandchildren and friends.&nbsp;
