Lonnie Lakin, 66, of Wamego, Kansas, passed away on Thursday (June 26, 2025) at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Lonnie was born in Manhattan Kansas, August 31, 1958 to Charles Lakin and Mary J. (Deibler) Lakin. Lonnie's father tragically died when Lonnie was young. His mother later remarried Victor Claeys who loved and raised Lonnie as his own.

Lonnie married his best friend and high school sweetheart Tammy Sue Piper on October 26, 1979 in St. George, Kansas. Together they were blessed with 3 children. Tammy preceded him in death on May 28, 2010.

Lonnie enjoyed fishing. While living in Florida, he could be found spending time at the beach and deep sea fishing. Lonnie was known for staying busy and always lending a helping hand. He was a “jack of all trades” and could fix or repair anything. He will be remembered as one who was always there to help others.

Lonnie was employed as a utility contractor and later as regional supervisor of the Gulf Coast for UtiliQuest. His work moved the family from Wamego to Kansas City, Virginia and then Florida. Following Tammy’s untimely death, Lonnie joined his family and moved back to Wamego in 2013. Lonnie was self employed for many years, and later worked for Howell Lumber Co, and Oswalt Wrecker Service. Lonnie was well known for his skilled backhoe and excavating work in the Manhattan and surrounding areas.

Survivors include his mother, Mary J. Claeys of St. George, KS; a daughter, Shannon Brown, husband Charles of Wamego; two sons, Jason Lakin, wife Alycea of Wamego and Tanner Lakin, wife Brittany of Westmoreland; five grandchildren, Payton Lakin, Olivia Brown, Destany Brown, Landon Lakin and Logan Lakin; one great granddaughter, Paisley Lakin; one brother; four sisters; and several nieces and nephews.

Lonnie was preceded in death by his wife, Tammy; his father, Charles; and his step father, Victor Claeys

Memorial services will be held Wednesday morning (July 9, 2025) at 10:30 at Campanella &amp; Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego with Reverend Tony Mattia officiating.

Visitation will be Tuesday evening (July 8, 2025) from 5:00 to 7:00 at Campanella &amp; Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego.

Stephen Francis Koppenheffer, 80, of Junction City, KS peacefully passed away on June 22, 2025. Born on September 22, 1944, in Junction City, Kansas to Myrl and Ethel (Shane) Koppenheffer, Stephen grew up in Junction City, graduating from Junction City High School.

In October of 1965, he married Sandra Engstrom, his one and only true love. Together, they lovingly raised their family in Junction City. Steve worked for the government in civil service for 18 years, successfully venturing on to self-employment in real estate and construction, to which he worked until retirement.

Steve was an adoring husband, loving and supportive father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He found joy through spending time with his family, working on the family farm, and playing in his garden.

Steve is survived by his loving family: daughter, Laura (husband Ozzie) Cornejo of Maryland; son, Roger (wife Donna) Koppenheffer of Texas; 8 Grandchildren; 4 Great-Grandchild; one sibling Sylvia (husband David) of Colorado; and an abundance of beautiful family and friends.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, wife, Sandra; and son, Jeffrey.

&nbsp;Following a life of love and selflessness, it should be of no surprise that he has gifted his body to the University of Kansas Medical Program for the advancement of the healing arts. Johnson and Mass-Hinitt Funeral Home is assisting the family. No services are scheduled at this time.

Stephen Francis Koppenheffer

Xavier Glen Carpenter, a beloved son, brother, and friend, passed away on July 15, 2024. The only son born to April Carpenter on April 6, 2006, in Manhattan, Kansas. Xavier’s life was a whirlwind of football, working, and being goofy with the people he loved.

Xavier grew up in Junction City. From a young age, he enjoyed playing sports wither with the school or special teams outside the school sports. He played football, basketball, and baseball; always a team player and a supportive player to his teammates. In 5th grade he had the lead role as “Cat” in Cat-In-The-Hat with his school musical. He spent his free time down at the 12th Street Community Center, the YMCA, playing video games, and attending church. Xavier was baptized and later accepted Christ. With the church he won awards for scripture quizzing, he enjoyed the theatrical positions he held in the holiday plays, and was overjoyed when his church sports team won first place in the KSExtreme football and basketball events. Xavier kept family, friends, and those around him in stitches with his goofiness. Although a few times his activities might have caught a sideways glance or two, Xavier always brought a smile to the people around him.

Xavier and his family moved to Virginia in 2020. He attended L.C. Bird High School in Chesterfield, Virginia, where he was a member of the football team from 2020 to 2024, served as a team captain and received an award for top Metro Defense player. His team called him Kansas. Unfortunately, during his senior year, Xavier faced an ACL, and meniscus tears, preventing him from playing his final season but he was with the team and even a Captain though he could not play, he was always there for his team. Despite his medical setback, Xavier’s leadership showed even more during this challenging time. He was an exceptional player on both sides of the ball, a great friend to all he met, he even continued gathering youth in the local area to help teach them sports. Xavier had constantly respected coaches, teachers, parents, and adults. He became an “804” boy at heart.

Xavier was heading back to Kansas from Virginia to attend Highland Community College in Highland, Kansas when he lost his life. He had worked his way back to being able to return to the gridiron and was determined to overcome the obstacles that had once counted him out. The road to recovery and his dream was hard and painful, but he made it happen for himself. Xavier decided to major in sports science as he wanted a related field that would keep him connected to football, ensuring he would have a career path in the sport he loved if playing football didn’t work out.

Over the years, Xavier went by many names: Xavier, Zay, Xae, XMan, X, Kansas and more recently, Deuce (from his game shirt number). Regardless of what you called him, knowing Xavier meant loving him. Though he claimed to not have many friends and liked to keep to himself, it is now abundantly clear that whether he was being humble or genuinely unaware, he had countless friends and people who considered him family. He was never alone. Fun and goofy yet calm and quiet, Xavier was truly one of a kind.

Xavier was preceded in death by his brother, Trashun Lewis, maternal great grandfather, Ronald Osterman, and his uncle Jackie Ball.

Xavier is survived by and deeply missed by his loving mother April Carpenter, father Jared Carpenter and biological father Tyrone Atkins-Bingley; siblings Na’Tayah Carpenter of Chester, Virginia, Jerriona Barfield, Javonna Barfield, Latrice Johnson, Kaladen Turner, and DaeJuan Rhodes of Winfield, Louisiana, Tamiya Turner of Houston, Texas, and many other newfound siblings; maternal great grandmother Patricia Osterman and maternal grandmother Tina Bailey (Osterman) of Junction City, Kansas, paternal grandparents Deionne and Johnny Carpenter of Winfield, Louisiana; aunts and uncles Shontay Mikula of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Dieonna Carpenter of Winfield, Louisiana, Laron and LaKeshia Carpenter of Terrell, Texas and James “Tony” Jones of Dodson, Louisiana, plus an abundance of other family members who loved him dearly.

Xavier’s legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. His life, though short, was a testament to the impact one individual can have on their community and the world. Rest in peace, dear Xavier. Your memory will forever be a source of inspiration and joy to all who know you. As we bid farewell to this remarkable young man, let us carry forward the light he brought into our lives.

Any funds that exceed the amount needed for the funeral, travel, and related expenses will be used to establish a scholarship in Xavier’s name. Students from Junction City High School and L.C. Gregg Biggs, beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend, passed away on June 13, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and countless cherished memories.

Born the son of Ross and Maxine Biggs, Gregg lived a full and vibrant life. A true jack of all trades, always lending a helping hand, and had a gift for connecting with everyone he encountered. He was one of THE BEST salesman. Many lifelong friendships were formed during his years selling cars at Heritage Motors in Topeka, where his warm smile and genuine nature made him a favorite among customers and coworkers alike. He also devoted many years to the family business, Biggs Realty, and later continued his career in real estate with other agencies. Gregg never met a stranger and often assumed most people had at least 30 minutes to talk — he loved catching up with you any chance he could get.

While Gregg found joy in his work and hobbies, his greatest pride was always his family — especially his daughters, their husbands, and his treasured grandchildren. Early in life, Gregg was married to Audrey Swarts, and together they were blessed with their daughters, Andrea and Lindsey. Anyone who crossed his path quickly learned about his girls and grandkids, as he never missed an opportunity to share their accomplishments with a beaming heart. His love for them was endless and deeply felt.

Gregg later married Sue, and together they had a beautiful life filled with simple joys — quiet evenings at home, working on home projects together, and sharing the companionship of their dogs. Their love and partnership were constant sources of strength and happiness.

Gregg liked working with his hands — he was always fixing something or starting a new project. He loved spending his Sundays watching NASCAR and cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs. In addition, Gregg was a proud friend of Bill W., finding strength, fellowship, and lifelong friend of Bill W., finding strength, fellowship, and lifelong friendships through that important connection.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sue, of the home; his mother, Maxine Biggs; his sister, Jodi (John) Brinkman; his brother, Bob Biggs; his daughters, Andrea (Cy) Taylor and Lindsey (Norman) Hartman; and his beloved grandchildren: Canyn, Cayne, Crayton, Nolin, Laney, Noah, Gracie, Tristen, and Alleigh. He is also survived by many other family members and countless great friends who will miss his warmth, his humor, and his generous heart.

Greg Biggs

Jerry Lynn Underwood, 86, of Prince George, Virginia passed away June 14, 2025 at his memory care facility in Chesterfield. Born on August 29, 1938 in Hillsboro, West Virginia, Jerry was the son of the late Leo Howard Underwood and Harriet “Hattie” VanBuren Underwood. He was preceded in death by his parents and his 5 siblings. 

Jerry proudly served his country for 20 years in the United States Army, retiring in 1975 at Fort Riley, Kansas, with the rank of Sergeant First Class. He was an Infantry soldier in the 1st Infantry Division, completing two tours of combat duty in Vietnam and serving in the Military Police at other Army postings. He was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries sustained during both of his tours in Vietnam. 

Following his military service, Jerry had several jobs in the Fort Riley area and was a civil service employee at Fort Riley before transferring to Fort Lee, Virginia in 1983 to briefly work at the Logistics Center. When he became interested in helping families with their life insurance and financial investments, he studied for and obtained the licenses to sell life insurance and investments before deciding to fully retire. Having grown up on a farm in West Virginia, he had a very productive vegetable garden for many years. His love of the outdoors took him back to West Virginia to hike and camp in the hills, but especially to enjoy “hunt camp” each November with his nephews Larry and Mike Hess. Always willing to hit the road to visit family in Kansas, Colorado, Ohio, West Virginia and North Carolina, RV trips to the National Parks and other parts of the United States continued to keep him active from 2008-2016.

 Jerry is survived by his wife of 40 years, Barbara L. “Tish” Underwood. Jerry is also survived by his former wife Maria Underwood Rhodes and their 6 children; Jean Underwood (Connie), Robert Underwood (Shari), Brenda Underwood Clift (Jim), Richard Underwood (Becky), Theresa Underwood Bramlage (Bob), and Russell Underwood (Chan’Tal). Jerry Lynn Underwood, 86, of Prince George, Virginia passed away June 14, 2025 at his memory care facility in Chesterfield. Born on August 29, 1938 in Hillsboro, West Virginia, Jerry was the son of the late Leo Howard Underwood and Harriet “Hattie” VanBuren Underwood. He was preceded in death by his parents and his 5 siblings. Jerry proudly served his country for 20 years in the United States Army, retiring in 1975 at Fort Riley, Kansas, with the rank of Sergeant First Class. He was an Infantry soldier in the 1st Infantry Division, completing two tours of combat duty in Vietnam and serving in the Military Police at other Army postings. He was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries sustained during both of his tours in Vietnam. Following his military service, Jerry had several jobs in the Fort Riley area and was a civil service employee at Fort Riley before transferring to Fort Lee, Virginia in 1983 to briefly work at the Logistics Center. When he became interested in helping families with their life insurance and financial investments, he studied for and obtained the licenses to sell life insurance and investments before deciding to fully retire. Having grown up on a farm in West Virginia, he had a very productive vegetable garden for many years. His love of the outdoors took him back to West Virginia to hike and camp in the hills, but especially to enjoy “hunt camp” each November with his nephews Larry and Mike Hess. Always willing to hit the road to visit family in Kansas, Colorado, Ohio, West Virginia and North Carolina, RV trips to the National Parks and other parts of the United States continued to keep him active from 2008-2016. Jerry is survived by his wife of 40 years, Barbara L. “Tish” Underwood. Jerry is also survived by his former wife Maria Underwood Rhodes and their 6 children; Jean Underwood (Connie), Robert Underwood (Shari), Brenda Underwood Clift (Jim), Richard Underwood (Becky), Theresa Underwood Bramlage (Bob), and Russell Underwood (Chan’Tal). Mark Alan Perry, 65, passed away on June 14, 2025, in Chapman, Kansas, surrounded by the people who loved him most. He was born on September 29, 1959, in Hutchinson, Kansas, to Billy “Gene” and Bernice Frances (Ehly) Perry.

Mark grew up in Junction City and graduated from Junction City High School in 1977. He began dating Pamela Sue Chartier in January of 1983, and the two were married later that year on November 19. They built a life together and raised two daughters, Erin and Lauren.

Mark worked for over 30 years at The Alida Pearl Coop in Chapman, most recently as the bookkeeper, before retiring in 2015.

In his younger days, he enjoyed racing cars, hunting, and riding his motorcycle. As the years went by, he picked up new hobbies—photography, fishing, and taking day trips with Pam. He loved being outdoors, took pride in his yard, was always ready to fire up the grill, and cherished time spent with his grandson.

Mark was the kind of guy who made people feel at ease. He was a devoted husband, proud dad, loving brother, and a loyal friend. He will be remembered for his quick&nbsp;wit, sense of humor, warm heart, and the kindness he extended to everyone around him.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. He is survived by his wife of nearly 42 years, Pam; daughters Erin Perry (Corey Gill) and Lauren Perry; his sister Lynnette “Lynda” Jett (James Larson); and his grandson, Connor Gill.

Mark faced his final year with courage and strength, battling Parkinson’s Disease and Dementia.

Betty J. McCormick, age 79, passed away on June 13, 2025, at the University of Kansas Health Systems, St. Francis in Topeka, Kansas.

She was born on November 29, 1945, in Manhattan, Kansas, the daughter of Vinton and Phyllis (Jones) McCormick.

Betty’s education included attending school in Paxico, where she graduated in the class of 1963.

Betty then worked as a key punch operator in Topeka. In 1965, Betty met her best friend Pat Davis, and her free spirit took the lead. She packed up her car and moved to Colorado Springs, where she spent 50 years making memories and dedicated 38 years to the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs as a key punch operator and advanced to the Budget Manager for Supply.

Family was incredibly important to Betty, and she returned to Alma, Kansas, in May of 2022, to be closer to them, where she spent the last three years. In 2008, Betty adopted her best friend Angel, a four-legged rescue. They quickly developed a special bond. Angel became Betty’s loyal companion, fierce protector, and constant support for many years. Angel passed away on April 6, 2024, leaving a void that Betty felt deeply.

Betty was known for her love of NASCAR and travel, with Hawaii being her favorite destination. She was also particularly fond of the mountains; her work allowed her to travel frequently, allowing her to enjoy many new places. Betty was also a fan of country music; she enjoyed listening to The Oaks, often referring to the artists as her friends, showing her connection to the music, which she enjoyed.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents, Vinton and Phyllis McCormick, and sister Roberta Rohleder.

She is survived by her brother Roger (Jackie) McCormick of St. George, KS; her three sisters, Barb (Joe) Zeller of Paxico, KS, Pat (Bruce) Erikson of McFarland, KS, and Carol (Royce) TenEyck of Alma, KS. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

John married Genevieve Noll from this union, two children, John and Rosie, were born. They were later divorced.

John was part-owner of a restaurant called The Lodge by Lake Wabaunsee from 2001 until 2006. However, most of his working life was spent at Goodyear Tire Distribution in Topeka. He later contributed his efforts to Grandma Hoerner's Foods, Inc.

John was a proud veteran who served in the United States Army from 1979 to 1985, stationed at Fort Hood and in Germany. He took pride in his military involvement, which shaped a significant part of who he was.

John is survived by his son, John (Jenny) Henderson, his daughter, Rosie Henderson, and his two grandchildren, John Wayne Henderson III and Joanna Riley Henderson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. John Wayne Henderson and Myrtle Wright Henderson, and his sister, Abigail Henderson.

Ronald Edward Walsh, 81, known to many as Ron, embarked on his final journey on June 6, 2025, at the Good Shepherd Homecare and Hospice in Manhattan, Kansas, surrounded by the love of his family. Ron was born on December 11, 1943, in Westmoreland, Kansas, to parents Edward Michael and Betty Arletta (Releford) Walsh. Ron married Ruth Elaine Dekat on June 18, 1962, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Flush, Kansas. They shared 63 years; Ruth survives at the home. 

Ron was a skilled drywall finisher, dedicating many years to residential and commercial projects, notably with Heartland Construction and later with his own business, R.W. Drywall. Ron’s wit and quick tongue helped him in his other career as an auctioneer at R.W. Auction Service. 

Ron had many passions, one of which was caring for a hobby farm with Ruth, where they raised cattle, horses, hens, and even a few peacocks. He found joy in teaching his children and grandchildren all about horse-drawn buggies. Known for living without fear, some people would say Ron had more lives than a cat. His sobriety of 52 years was a badge of honor, and he always had time to help others overcome their challenges in their sobriety. His stubbornness was legendary, but it was always backed by a heart that overflowed with love for his family and friends. 

Ron is survived by an incredible family, including his children Rodney E. Walsh (Michelle Daugherty), Lori K. Hall (Mark), Annette C. Brownell (Clint), and David A. Walsh (Kathy). He was the proud grandfather to 15 grandchildren—Rhonda, Eric, Christopher, Dandra, Chase, Wade, Amber, Matt, Josh, Brigham, Ashley, Dexter, Amanda, Amber, and Amelia; 26 great-grandchildren with 2 on the way; and 5 great-great-grandchildren. His siblings, Jim Walsh (Nina), Rick Walsh, Barb Henry, and Mike Walsh (Diane), along with many cherished nieces and nephews, also survive him. Gloria was born on September 15, 1954, to Robert Dale Johnson and Madelyn Jean (Reck) Johnson at Junction City Municipal Hospital.

She carried with her an abundance of compassion and dedicated her life to caring for others as a geriatric nurse. Gloria attended Kansas State University from 1972 to 1974 in the pre-nursing program. She went on to earn her Associate Degree in Nursing from Wichita St. Joseph School of Nursing in 1977 and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from MidAmerica Nazarene College in 1987.

On May 18, 1981, she married her beloved husband, George E. Marcus, Jr. Together they were loving partners, parents, grandparents and friends. Gloria was welcomed into heaven just a few short weeks following the passing of George. Their joyful reunion offers comfort and peace to those who loved them both.

Gloria is survived by her daughter, Megan (Gareth) Rohr; her brothers, Robin Johnson and Rex (Bethany) Johnson; and her cherished grandchildren, Trake Ryan and Remi Wilde Rohr.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Madelyn Johnson, and her granddaughter, Madelyn Dae Rohr.

Rick was born in Junction City, Kansas to Richard Homer Ziegler and Marie Neyer Ziegler. He was the youngest of three children and is survived by his sister, Cynthia (Claire) Schmidt of Washington, and his brother, Phil (Sammy) Ziegler of Oklahoma.

From a young age, Rick had a deep love for the land and animals. You could often find him on his favorite horse, Judy, or riding his motorcycle through the pastures-herding the cattle or just simply having fun. He attended a one-room schoolhouse in the country until his freshman year at Junction City High School, where he graduated in 1962. There, he played football and wrestled. He jokingly credited those activities for the many aches and pains that he felt later in life, but also cherished the lifelong friendships and great memories he made.

Rick continued his education at Kansas State University studying agriculture. He spent his life on the farm where he grew up-a place he loved, worked and played. Rick was more than just a farmer. He was a mentor, a true friend, and a source of strength to those that knew him. He taught his kids the value of hard work, the importance of family, and to take time to appreciate the beauty of the natural world. He took great pleasure in being outside and being his own boss.

Along with farming, Rick worked full-time as an electrician, civil service at Fort Riley Irwin Army Hospital. His entrepreneurial mindset led him to take care of numerous rental properties. No matter the job, Rick would always find a way to make it fun.

When he wasn’t working, Rick could be found enjoying a beautiful day on the golf course or cruising on his motorcycle. His favorite moments were spent with his family- sharing good BBQ, followed by chocolate cake. Rick loved supporting his grandkids in all their activities, or gathering around the table for holiday card games that brought out the best in everyone.

Rick always lit up a room with his sweet smile, often followed by an ornery twinkle in his eye. He had the kindest laugh that made everyone around him happy just to be near him. Rick was one of the great Dads that made all his kids' friends feel seen and heard. The Ziegler farm was the heart for many city kids to experience life and to make memories. If it was numerous hayrack&nbsp;

rides, campouts by the pond or just playing hide-and-seek. He believed in being honest and was full of integrity and compassion. His legacy lives on in the hearts of his family and friends who were fortunate enough to know him.

Rick shared 46 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Betty. Their life together was filled with love and laughter. They were best friends and true soulmates. Their very special bond was an example to their children of what hard work, compassion and resilience can achieve. Rick often said that his family was his greatest accomplishment in life.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Ziegler, and children: Kenny (Michelle) Ziegler, Lynn Ziegler, Joseph (Corey) Ziegler and Marie (Michael) Grosser. He leaves behind seven grandchildren: Danielle (Brandon) Martino, Morgan Ziegler, Dylan Ziegler, Kadyn Ziegler, Graham Ziegler, Olivia Grosser and Paige Grosser; and one great-grandson, Bennett Martino. Preceded in death by infant daughter, Laurie Sue Ziegler.

&nbsp; Larry D. Garrison, 73, of Alma, Kansas, passed away on Sunday (June 1, 2025) at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka, Kansas.

&nbsp;&nbsp; Born October 11, 1951 in Salina, Kansas, Larry was the son of George Garrison and Jacqueline (Ferm) Garrison.&nbsp; He married Marilyn Rubottom on May 29, 1982 at Lake Wabaunsee, Kansas.&nbsp; Marilyn survives.

&nbsp;&nbsp; Larry was a 1969 graduate of Salina High School and attended Kansas State University.&nbsp; He was a self employed farmer, rancher and carpenter for many years.&nbsp; He remodeled old stone houses and built log cabins, and was especially proud of the home he built for Marilyn.

&nbsp;&nbsp; He was a longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church in Alma.&nbsp; Larry was active with the Boy Scouts and earned Eagle Scout in 1968.&nbsp; He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed tending to his vegetable garden.&nbsp; Larry was known as a “jack of all trades” and was a people person who never met a stranger.&nbsp; He will be remembered for his way of making everyone laugh.

&nbsp;&nbsp; Survivors include his wife, Marilyn; two daughters, Mariel Ford (Ron) of Alma and Larami Mitchell (Jerrod) of Overland Park, KS; four grandchildren, Alexus Ford, Elise Ford, Pierce Mitchell and Avery Mitchell; two brothers, Dennis Garrison of Houston, MN, and Mike Borthwick of Salina, KS; a sister, Teresa Suellentrop (Charles) of Olathe, KS; two brothers in law, Pat Renner (LeAnne) of Topeka, KS and Mike Renner (Kathy) of Overland Park, KS; a sister in law, Diana Rubottom of Alma, KS; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Larry Lee Minick, known affectionately by friends and family as Larry, passed away on February 16, 2025, in Topeka, Kansas, after a valiant battle with cancer. Born on November 7, 1948, in Abilene, Kansas, to Lorena and Lloyd Minick, Larry's life was one marked by dedication, service, and a boundless love for his family and community.

Larry grew up in the heart of Kansas and graduated from Chapman high school in 1966. His commitment to his country was evident early on when he joined the Armed Forces, serving from 1968 to 1971 and receiving the Purple Heart for his bravery and sacrifice. After his honorable discharge, Larry returned to his roots in Talmage, Kansas, where he embraced the life of a farmer with the same passion and dedication he had shown in the military.

In the years following, Larry, alongside his then-wife Susan, moved to Junction City. There, he transitioned from tilling the soil to cultivating relationships as a Farmers Insurance Agent. Larry's entrepreneurial spirit shone through as he established the Minick Insurance Agency, a testament to his work ethic and his ability to connect with people from all walks of life. He retired in 2011 alongside his wife of many years, Mary, leaving behind a legacy of professionalism and community service. Larry and Mary later divorced in 2024.&nbsp;

Larry's love for animals was profound, and his generosity extended to the Junction City Animal Shelter and Friends of Animals, Inc.&nbsp;&nbsp;He found solace in the company of his beloved dog, Louie, with whom he traveled and explored the many scenic vistas that he so cherished. Larry's affinity for the outdoors was complemented by his skillful hands, which were often busy maintaining his John Deere machinery or tinkering with various gadgets.

He was also a sports enthusiast, known for his presence in the bleachers, camcorder in hand, capturing every moment of his daughter's volleyball matches. His support for his children's endeavors was unwavering, and his pride in their achievements was immeasurable.

Generous, friendly, and faith-filled are words that only begin to describe Larry. His warm smile and kind-hearted nature left an indelible mark on everyone he met. Larry's legacy is carried on by his loving children, Joshua Minick (Erika) of Tyler, TX, and Sarah Mitchell (Jody) of Rossville, KS. His memory will also be cherished by his grandchildren, Alexis, Emma, and Lilly, who will miss their grandfather's gentle guidance and unwavering support.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Lorena and Lloyd Minick, his sister, Mary Ann Cassell, and brother, Ronald Minick.&nbsp;

Karen Sue (Brown) Hofmann passed away peacefully at her home in Wamego, Kansas on May 13, 2025, at the age of 75, following a short battle with cancer.

&nbsp; Susie was born on April 11,1950 in Westmoreland, Kansas to John and Laura (Enlow) Brown, the eldest of two daughters. As a young girl she and her family moved often as an active military family; she attended kindergarten in Germany and learned to ice skate in Wisconsin. In 1968 she graduated from Wamego High School, where she was active in all things choir. Soon after, she welcomed her three daughters, Jayme, Jenn, and Jill, in quick succession.

Cheryl A. McCullough, 78, of Junction City, Kansas passed away peacefully surrounded by her children on Friday, May 30, 2025 at Stormont-Vail Healthcare in Topeka, Kansas.

Cheryl was born January 15, 1947, in Houston, Texas the daughter of Mary Ellen (Rummell) and Benjamin Hardwick Brown.

Cheryl attended Jane Long Elementary School and graduated from Bellaire High School both in Houston, Texas. After high school, she attended and graduated from Lon Morris College in Jacksonville, Texas.

She moved to the area in 1983. Cheryl worked for USD #475 for eighteen years. She later worked for Walmart as a cashier and stocker.

Cheryl was a devoted mother and grandmother. She fiercely advocated for her son as he grew up with asthma and stayed by his side during numerous hospitalizations. She uncharacteristically pushed the doctors to provide him care when she felt they weren't proactive enough. She made herself available at a moment's notice to watch the grandchildren at the drop of a hat when they were little. She also attended many sporting and school events. Cheryl loved to garden and carried on her mother's love of houseplants and passed the love down to her daughter and granddaughter. She adored her own and her children's dogs and cats and loved traveling with family and thoroughly enjoyed the peace and tranquility of country living and nature. Cheryl had extreme grit and showed her family grace at the end of her life and we are blessed to have her has a mother.

Her family was very important to her. She enjoyed spending quality time with her grandchildren.

She married Douglas Michael McCullough on February 5, 1968. They were later divorced.

Survivors include one daughter, Janet M. Trumpp (Corey) of Wakefield, Kansas; two sons, Sean L. McCullough (Jennifer) of White City, Kansas and Kevin M. McCullough of Junction City, Kansas; four grandchildren, Cody and Shawna Trumpp, Alexandria McCullough and Holly McCullough; one brother, Mike Brown (Cindy) of Salida, Colorado; one cousin, Annabess Barr of Texas.

Cheryl A. McCullough, 78, of Junction City, Kansas passed away peacefully surrounded by her children on Friday, May 30, 2025 at Stormont-Vail Healthcare in Topeka, Kansas.Cremation will take place. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.Cheryl was born January 15, 1947, in Houston, Texas the daughter of Mary Ellen (Rummell) and Benjamin Hardwick Brown.Cheryl attended Jane Long Elementary School and graduated from Bellaire High School both in Houston, Texas. After high school, she attended and graduated from Lon Morris College in Jacksonville, Texas.She moved to the area in 1983. Cheryl worked for USD #475 for eighteen years. She later worked for Walmart as a cashier and stocker.Cheryl was a devoted mother and grandmother. She fiercely advocated for her son as he grew up with asthma and stayed by his side during numerous hospitalizations. She uncharacteristically pushed the doctors to provide him care when she felt they weren't proactive enough. She made herself available at a moment's notice to watch the grandchildren at the drop of a hat when they were little. She also attended many sporting and school events. Cheryl loved to garden and carried on her mother's love of houseplants and passed the love down to her daughter and granddaughter. She adored her own and her children's dogs and cats and loved traveling with family and thoroughly enjoyed the peace and tranquility of country living and nature. Cheryl had extreme grit and showed her family grace at the end of her life and we are blessed to have her has a mother.Her family was very important to her. She enjoyed spending quality time with her grandchildren.She married Douglas Michael McCullough on February 5, 1968. They were later divorced.Survivors include one daughter, Janet M. Donald Stevens, born October 25, 1951, passed away in the early morning hours of May 31, 2025. Don was a loving and devoted husband to Carolyn Stevens, and they were married on September 10, 1983. Together, they had three sons, Matthew, Christopher, and Daniel Stevens. He welcomed two daughters-in-law into his family: Amber Stevens, who is married to Christopher Stevens, and Becky Stevens, who is married to Daniel Stevens. He was the proud grandfather of 7: Taylor Booth, Emily Stevens, Caden Stevens, Keira Stevens, Kyler Stevens, Jason Stevens, and Melissa Stevens. Don cherished a group of close friends who, over the years, became as close as family, including many children who considered him a second dad.

Don was a lifelong Junction City resident with his only time away from the community being his years in college at the Emporia Teachers College, now part of Emporia State University. He graduated from the 1969 class of Junction City High School. He attended the state wrestling tournament in his senior year of high school and continued his wrestling journey in college at Emporia. Following his graduation from the Emporia Teachers College in 1973, he returned to Junction City and began teaching at Fort Riley Middle School.

Don spent his entire teaching career at Fort Riley Middle School, teaching a variety of subjects and coaching multiple sports. He most enjoyed his time as a physical education teacher, where he regularly expressed that he got to spend his days in “glorified recess with kids.” His passion for wrestling persisted even after college, where he served as an assistant coach for Junction City High School before assuming the role of head wrestling coach at Fort Riley Middle School. Don completed his career serving 32 years as a wrestling coach. Don also served in several other sports, including volleyball, football, and golf.

Don’s involvement with Geary County sports went beyond the coaching realm. Don spent many years as the primary announcer for Junction City High School Sports. He was the Voice&nbsp;of the Blue Jays for more than twenty years, announcing for sports such as football, basketball, wrestling, soccer, and baseball.

Don’s favorite organization was the Boy Scouts of America. Don was a lifelong scout; he earned many accolades. He earned his Eagle Scout at the age of 14 and devoted his life to working with other scouts. During his career with the organization, he also earned the Silver Beaver, the highest honor awarded to adult Scouts. Don organized the Quivira District Pinewood Derby for many years. He also worked with Boy Scout Camps, such as Camp Brown in Abilene, KS, and Camp Hansen in Kirwin, KS. Don also attended and earned his Wood Badge. As a mentor in Boy Scouts, Don served as an Eagle Mentor, helping other Boy Scouts plan, develop, and submit their Eagle projects. He later served as an Eagle Board Member, where he and a team of other lifelong Scouts would analyze and evaluate Eagle Projects to determine if a Boy Scout had earned their Eagle Scout Badge. Don continued to serve in this position until his health prevented him from continuing.

Don was a pillar in the Junction City community, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and a man who loved life. He will be remembered fondly by those who knew him, and he will be deeply missed by those who survive him.

A celebration of life service is pending at Camp Brown in Abilene, Kansas.
