At 2:30 Tuesday afternoon, the National Weather Service in Topeka issued a Fire Weather
Watch starting Wednesday morning through Wednesday afternoon.

The watch affects the following counties: Republic, Washington, Cloud, Clay, Riley, Ottawa, Dickinson, Geary, and Morris.

Conditions currently favor fires with north winds of 15 to 20 mph, and gusts of 25 to 35mph, isolated to 40 mph, and expected humidity levels below 20 percent.

Officials warn that any fires that develop in areas with dried fuels will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.
