Fire destroys rural Geary Co. home and vehicles

GEARY COUNTY —Fire destroyed a house in the 13000 block of Lower McDowell Creek Road and three nearby vehicles in rural Geary County Monday evening. The man and woman who lived at the home and one dog got out. One animal died.

Geary County Rural Fire Chief Garry Berges said the house was totally engulfed when firefighters arrived on the scene. The names of the residents have not been released pending completion of the investigation into the cause of the blaze. There will be a representative from the State Fire Marshal's Office called in to assist with the investigation on Tuesday. A damage estimate is not yet available.

Geary County sent 19 firefighters to battle the blaze, Grandview Plaza sent a water tanker, Riley County provided help with four vehicles to support water needs and J6 Ranch also provided water support. The Red Cross was contacted to provide support to the family.
