Roger Ernest Maughmer, age 78, of Manhattan, died December 29, 2023, at Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan.
He was born April 17, 1945, in Cheyenne, Wyoming, the son of Glen N. and Laura Maurine (Miller) Maughmer.
Roger graduated from Cheyenne East High School in 1963.
On December 20, 1964, in Cheyenne, WY, he was married to Barbara Ann Green.
Roger and Barbara moved to Kansas in 1965 and lived in Kansas City and Topeka prior to moving to Manhattan in 1975.
Roger worked for Southwestern Bell for 25 years and then took early retirement. He then was an appraiser with Simmons and Company for the rest of his working years.
He served for six years on the Manhattan City Commission and was mayor during the 1993 flood. He was a longtime member of the Manhattan Optimist Club.
Roger loved going to the family cabin in Wyoming whenever he could. He was a race car guy and built a race car for his son Glen. He started to restore his 1949 suburban and then Glen finished the three-year project in October of this year so Roger got to take a ride in it before he died. Roger enjoyed playing golf, bird hunting and fly fishing.
Survivors include his wife Barbara of Manhattan; two sons: Glen Maughmer and his wife Pam of Basehor, KS, and Bob Maughmer of Edmond, OK; three grandchildren: Lexi, Cameron and Lee Maughmer; and two great-grandchildren: Raegan and Parker Maughmer.
