Manhattan man accused of battery on a police officer

RILEY COUNTY --Law enforcement are investigating a violent crime against a police officer inManhattan.

Just before 9a.m. Monday, officers filed a report of battery on a law enforcement officer, disorderly conduct and interference with a law enforcement officer in the 500 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Manhattan, according to the Riley County Police Department activity report.

A 35-year-old man was acting disorderly, interfered with an officer’s investigation and battered an officer.  Wylee Schmit, 35, of Manhattan, was arrested on requested charges of battery of a law enforcement officer, disorderly conduct and interference with a law enforcement officer. Schmit is being held on a $7,500 bond.
