
Riley County Police Captain Tim Hegarty is retiring after nearly 26 years at RCPD.
According to the RCPD, Hegarty served the Riley County Police Department and the citizens of Manhattan and Riley County since May 1995 and served as Captain since December 2007.
He has been assigned to Patrol, Investigations, Training, Accreditation, Administration and Support and served as the Commander for Patrol, Support, Administration and Investigations most recently.
While employed at RCPD, he assisted in the creation of the Repeat Offender Program, Reality Based Training and Hotspot Policing. His work with Hotspot Policing led to a 14% decrease in crime since implemented in 2013 and was the focus of a study by researchers at George Mason University which has been submitted for publication in a policing scientific journal.
His work in the Operation Chicago Connection investigation jointly led by RCPD and the DEA led to the arrest of over 50 people in a federal drug takedown that was one of the largest in state history.
Hegarty's last official with the RCPD was Saturday.
