
The Manhattan Optimist Club’s Manhattan High School Student of the month is Colin Hohenbary son of Jim and Laura Hohenbary of Manhattan.
Colin is a member of the National Honors Society and has been on the MHS honor roll for seven semesters. He serves as president of “MHS Pride”. He is a member of the MHS Cheerleading varsity squad and has been a member of cheer since his sophomore year.
Colin has been connected to Sunset Zoo for several years. He has served as a junior zookeeper, on the zoo crew and is currently a member of the junior conservation team and as a zoo teen. He has participated in several mission trips with his church. He has gone on mission trips with the College Avenue United Methodist Church to Marvel, Arkansas in 2017 and Sioux Falls, South Dakota in 2019.
Colin plans to continue his education majoring in architecture and design at the University of Kansas. He hopes to have a career in zoo architecture or as a green architect designing more sustainable residential and commercial buildings.
The Manhattan Optimist Club’s student of the month is designed to recognize Manhattan High seniors that make a difference in their community through volunteerism and leadership activities that have a positive impact on MHS and/or the Manhattan community. The goal of the program is to inspire and encourage youth to get involved in their community in an effort to benefit others.
