Delores Mae “Dee” (Freed) Burton, daughter of George and Dorothy (Jensen) Freed, was born September 29, 1934 in Belleville, Kansas. She passed from this life on Thursday, December 15, 2022, at Republic County Hospital, Belleville, KS, at the age of 88.

She attended Parkhill one-room school and Courtland schools, graduating in 1952. Dee attended Brown Mackie Business School in Salina, KS, receiving her business certificate, and worked a number of years for R.E.A., Frye Enterprises, and 26 years as a medical transcriptionist for Drs. Ernie Chaney, Herb Doubek, and Robert Holt. In her retirement, Dee also spent 16 years greeting tourists at the Kansas Travel Information Center.

On June 10, 1956, Dee was united in marriage to Raymond “Ray” Burton, and to this union of over 53 years, two daughters, Connie and Cheri were born.

Dee was preceded in death by her parents, infant sister Dorothy Georgene Freed, brother John Edward Freed, husband Ray, and in-laws George and Stella Burton.

She will be greatly missed, but forever remembered by daughters Connie and husband Fred Levendofsky of rural Republic, KS, and Cheri and husband Fred Williams of Chino, CA; grandchildren Nicholas Levendofsky of rural Courtland, KS, Kristen and husband Evan Swanson of rural Manhattan, KS, Brett and wife Angie Williams of Rancho Cucamonga, CA and Breagan Williams of Chino, CA; great-grandchildren Amari Williams of Rancho Cucamonga, CA, Knox Williams of Chino, CA and Ezra and Stella Swanson of rural Manhattan, KS. She is also survived by her sister Beth and husband Dan Sheahan of Loveland, Colorado and sister-in law Judy (Freed) Kieffer of Longford, KS and a community of family and friends.

Visitation will be held Monday, December 19, 2022, from 1:00-8:00 p.m., with family greeting visitors from 6:30-8:00 p.m., at Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home in Belleville.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 20, at Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home in Belleville. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, rural Courtland. The family requests family and friends attending the services to wear casual attire.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorial donations to the Rocky Pond Christmas Lights, Republic County Historical Society Museum for the upkeep of Parkhill School, and Neighbor to Neighbor.
