Edeltraud T McCabe age 87, of Manhattan, Kansas, was welcomed into the arms of her Shepherd on September 23, 2023, with the love of her family surrounding her. Edeltraud was born in Moers Germany on January 22, 1936, to Georg and Karoline (Springfeld) Augsburger. Throughout her life Edeltraud served as a symbol of devotion, strength, and unity to her family. She maintained an immaculate home that was always welcoming and one that no one ever left hungry.
Edeltraud loved to share pictures and stories about her hometown of Neckarsteinach and life as a child living on a ship traveling the waterways of Germany.
She loved God and sharing His word and was a member of Grace Baptist Church.
On January 22, 1955 she married her first husband Fritz Thieme. He preceded her in death. The couple welcomed five children to this union.
On October 6, 1965 in Pirmasens, Germany, as a widow, she married Milton E. McCabe and had two children. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include Anette (Thieme) McClellan of Manhattan, KS, Michael Thieme and wife Ulli of Schifferstadt, Germany, Friederike (Thieme) Vay and her husband Knut of Frankenthal, Germany, and Scarlett (McCabe) Donnert and husband Dave of Manhattan, KS; ten grandchildren Michelle (McClellan) Austin and husband Jon of Bolivar, MO, Markus McClellan and wife Nicole of Bolivar, MO, Benjamin Thieme of Schifferstadt, Germany, Daniel Vay, Tobias Vay and Simon Vay of Frankenthal Germany, Jen McCabe of Tampa, FL, Taylor Donnert of Franklin Indiana, Ryan Donnert of Manhattan, KS, Sarah (Cleer) Blakeley of Havana, IL and 14 great grandchildren. Also surviving are her siblings Horst Augsburger, Renate Kappes, Kurt Augsburger, Roswitha Kuebler, Margot Oster, Karl Augsburger, and Annemarie Rossmueller all residing in Germany.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Klaus Thieme (infant son), first husband Fritz Thieme, Gabriele (Thieme) Williams with unborn child, son-in-law Paul Williams and grand daughter Melody Williams, Milton McCabe Jr and stepdaughter April (McCabe) Cleer.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 28, 2023 at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday, September 29, 2023, at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home with Pastor Bill Gasser officiating. Interment will follow at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery at Fort Riley.
