Manhattan Area Chamber of Commerce presents annual awards

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Wayne Sloan was selected 2021 Lud Fiser Citizen of the Year during Manhattan Area Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Meeting at Manhattan Conference Center, Feb. 18.

The Manhattan Area Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year award is named in honor of long-tenured former Manhattan Chamber president Lud Fiser, who served from 1948 to 1975 and was responsible for such community developments as CiCo Park and Manhattan Industrial Park.

Wayne is the 53rd recipient of the Lud Fiser Citizen of the Year award.

Wayne R. Sloan is the CEO of BHS Construction. He is a 1975 graduate of Kansas State University with a degree in Construction Science. He is a graduate of the 1985 Leadership Manhattan class.

In 1977, he returned to Manhattan to join his father’s firm, Green Construction Company. During his time there, he held positions of Project Superintendent, Project Manager and Estimator. In January 1982, Wayne became an owner of BHL Construction and established the current name of BHS Construction, Inc.  Wayne is now retired but still actively involved with BHS.

Manhattan Area Chamber of Commerce names Tara Grubb as Young Professional of the Year at annual meeting.

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Tara Grubb was recognized as the 2021 Young Professional the Year during Manhattan Area Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Meeting at Manhattan Conference Center, Feb. 18.

Grubb is the second recipient of the Young Professional of the Year award.

Tara Grubb has been engaged in the community since moving to Manhattan in 2011. She immediately got involved in the Chamber’s Young Professional program volunteering as a member and chair on the steering committee, helping with events, helping build the brand, strengthening relationships and providing leadership. In 2019 she was part of the steering committee that was formed to create the rebrand now known as Hype. She was instrumental in getting things rolling with her fellow YPs and has continued her leadership role as Chair till the end of 2021. Grubb still sits on the committee as Past Chair to provide insight to the organization moving forward.

Grubb moved to Manhattan in 2011 to be a part of the Hilton Garden Inn/Conference Center opening team and after three years at the Hilton, Tara moved on to work for Complete Weddings + Events as their Sales & Marketing Manager and started their Wedding Coordination program. With Complete Weddings + Events she has helped to provide services for many events in the community, networked with wedding professionals, producer of the Flint Hills Bridal Show, engaged with KSU Hospitality Students providing guidance and internships. Tara has been with Complete now for almost 8 years. 

The Chamber’s Young Professional of the Year award honors an outstanding young professional for the variety of professional and philanthropic roles they serve that make a difference throughout our community.

Manhattan Area Chamber of Commerce names Tracy Anderson as C. Clyde Jones Volunteer of the Year at annual meeting

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Tracy Anderson was recognized as the 2021 C. Clyde Jones Volunteer of the Year during Manhattan Area Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Meeting at Manhattan Conference Center, Feb. 18.

The Chamber’s volunteer of the year award honors C. Clyde Jones, a 60-year Manhattan resident who served as first dean of Kansas State University’s College of Business. Jones has a long-running record of community service activity in Manhattan, to include Shepherd’s Crossing.

Anderson is the 33rd recipient of the C. Clyde Jones Volunteer of the Year award.

Tracy Anderson has done so much for the community volunteering his time and also his talent.  He has created renderings for several parts of our community that help create the vision and also spur some creative thinking by the community. His efforts can also be seen in the new indoor aquatic facility that is currently in the planning stage. 

Anderson led the chambers effort to raise money for the Riley County economic development sales tax which passed by 60 percent  Also, he served on the steering committee in 2021 for Advantage Manhattan 5, Manhattan’s private sector economic development funding program.  Anderson serves on the Manhattan Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. In addition to Chamber projects, Anderson has worked on several community projects including helping with the current aquatic center study, volunteering significant time and professional expertise on the project. 

Tracy is a graduate of KSU in 1989 with a degree in Architecture.  Dan and Tracy started Anderson Knight Architects in 2002.  Tracy is a 2008 graduate of the Leadership Manhattan program.
