Gerald Robert “Jerry” Kaufholz, age 91, of Manhattan, died at Ascension Via Christi Village on Wednesday November 8, 2023.

Jerry lived at Garden Grove Apartments, and has been a long-time resident of the Manhattan area. He was born October 16, 1932 in Junction City, Kansas.

Jerry served in the U.S. Navy. He was stationed out of Norfolk, Virgina. While in the Navy he meet and married Faye Louise Fant of Union, South Carolina.

They had four children: Jerry Jr. (Susan), Dewayne (Darlene), Lane (Tammy)and Melinda Jane Smith (Curtis) all of Union South Carolina.

After the Navy Jerry did electronic work. In later years he did custodian work at K-State University.

In retirement Jerry loved to work with wood. He made many chairs, tables and planters. Jerry also loved gardening and worked on two classic cars. Jerry loved visiting with people and hearing their many stories.

Jerry was preceded in death by parents Leo George Kaufholz and Helen Louise (Wilson) Kaufholz; two sisters: Helen May Zdrojowy (Stan), and Linda Kay Kaufholz; and two brothers: Leo V. Kaufholz (Irene) and James Richard Kaufholz (Carol).

Jerry is survived by two sisters: Sharon (Kaufholz) Neugent and Shirley Ann (Kaufholz) Nielsen and her husband Niel both of Manhattan, Kansas.

Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p .m. Friday at the Sunrise Cemetery in Manhattan, KS, with Reverend Kevin Larson officiating.

The Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, KS 6502, is assisting the family with arrangements.
