UPDATE: Volunteers in Westmoreland to check-in at Pott. Co. Sheriff's Office

WESTMORELAND - UPDATE: Wednesday, May 1, 2024 - 1:00pm:

Access to the damaged portion of Westmoreland remains restricted while crews continue to remove debris. 

Residents have been asked to place debris near the roadside for city, county and volunteer teams to collect and haul away.

Volunteer assistance is appreciated, however, no heavy equipment is needed. Volunteers must register at the Law Enforcement Center, 108 N 1st Street. 

There are more than 175 volunteers already assisting with clean-up of debris in Westmoreland.

The American Red Cross is operating a day time safe and secure space at the Westmoreland Community Center. Those impacted by the tornado can request additional assistance by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS(1-800-733-2777).

Westmoreland Mayor, Mark Jack, expressed gratitude to emergency responders, Kansas Gas, Evergy, The American Red Cross, and volunteers for their swift response and ongoing support during this challenging time for the community.

WESTMORELAND - Following Tuesday night's tornado, officials are asking the public to stay away from Westmoreland on Wednesday, May 1st to allow officials time and space to evaluate the damage and restore utility services to the area.

Once emergency officials are able to assess the damages and create a plan for clean-up more information will be posted for those wishing to help or provide supplies.
