Including the cities of Clay Center, Topeka, Emporia, Greenleaf, Wamego, Clifton, Frankfort, Belleville, Sabetha, Hiawatha,Seneca, Holton, Abilene, Ottawa, Lebo, Concordia, Alma, Nortonville, Hanover, Osage City, Eskridge, Meriden, McFarland, Council Grove, Grantville, Garnett, Harveyville, Lawrence, Valley Falls, Marysville, Lyndon, Herington, St. Marys, Alta Vista, Paxico, Burlingame, Horton, Blue Rapids, Junction City, Carbondale, Oskaloosa, Maple Hill, Bennington, McLouth, Linn, Manhattan, Burlington, Washington, Perry, Minneapolis, and Overbrook.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAID A HEAT ADVISORY WILL BE IN EFFECT FROM 1 PM TO 8 PM CDT FRIDAY...

Heat index values up to 108 are expected on Friday for portions of central, east central, north central, and northeast Kansas. Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and even heat stroke.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1.

Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
