Dorene F. Howard, formally of the Manhattan and St. George area, passed away at Glenwood Village Assisted Living in Overland Park, KS on December 29, 2023.
Dorene was born in Winfield, KS on December 4, 1928 to Francis and Lena Prockish and moved to the Manhattan area shortly after birth. She attended and graduated St. George High School. While there, she met her husband of fifty-nine years, Roy G. Howard. They had three boys Dennis, Jerry, and Bill.
Over the years she had various jobs, most well known for working at the St. George School in the Cafeteria and Supervisor of the laundry at St. Mary's Hospital in Manhattan. She had many interests, including Pottawatomie EHU, volunteering for 4-H events and supervising Judge for her Voting District. Other favorite hobbies included cooking, quilting, feeding her wild birds, and watching sporting events.
Dorene is preceded in death by her husband Roy, her parents Francis and Lena Prockish and her brother Thomas Prockish.
Survivors include her children Dennis (Patricia) Howard of Halstead, KS, Jerry (Marie) Howard of Roeland Park, KS, and Dr. William (Donna) Howard of Waterton, SD. Her siblings include Betty Ball of Manhattan, KS, Mary Wexelman of FT. Collins, CO, Rosie Wyatt of Wamego, KS, Jack Prockish of Colorado Springs, CO, Steve Prockish of Manhattan, KS, six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday January 20, 2024 at Seven Dolor's Church in Manhattan; with a Rosary at 10 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Dorene will be buried at St. Bernard's Cemetery in Wamego, KS.
