Dorothy (Mother Gilbert) Lee Gilbert, 95, of Junction City, Kansas passed away on March 15, 2024, in her home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on May 3, 1928, to Charles and Mary Gertrude (Downs) Wilson in Taylorsville, Kentucky. Dorothy married her husband, Lifford, December 3, 1949, while they were living in Indianapolis, Indiana. She had seven children that she raised in Indianapolis: Michael Harwell, William Harwell, Ronald Gilbert, Deborah (Gilbert) Jones, Reginald Gilbert, Dwayne Gilbert, Holly Michelle Gilbert and her niece, Denise Gaddie. Later in life, she raised three of her grandchildren: Alyson Brown, Latoya Reed, and Janelle Jackson.December 3, 1949, she married her husband, Lifford Gilbert and were happily married for 36 years. During their early years of marriage, they were a part of a few churches in Indianapolis, but they made the decision to bring their family to Junction City so they could pastor the Pentecostal Church. Mother Gilbert was involved with The Pentecostal Church for many years. She had many responsibilities within the church such as being the First Lady, organizing the Women's of Faith Choir, and she started and organized the church's first prayer band committee.
She is survived by her two sons, Ronald (Norma) Gilbert and Reginald Gilbert; one daughter, Deborah (Sam) Jones and a host of other family and friends. She is preceded by her three sons, Michael Harwell, William Harwell, and Dwayne Gilbert; one daughter, Holly Michelle Gilbert and her parents, Charles and Mary Gertrude.
A visitation will take place at The Pentecostal Church, Monday, March 25, 2024, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. followed by a funeral service, Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at The Pentecostal Church. A committal service will follow at Highland Cemetery.
