Gary Gene Cox

Gary Gene Cox, 80 of Abilene passed away December 10th, 2022, at Memorial Hospital in  Abilene. He was born October 26th, 1942, in Abilene. The son of Joe Henry Sr. and Gladys June (Shane) Cox. Gary grew up in the Hope area, attended local schools and graduated from Hope High School in 1960. On June 9th, 1962, he was united in marriage to Patricia Herbel in Abilene.

Gary worked for the Abilene Fire Department for 23 years and then worked as head custodian for USD 435 until his retirement. He was a member of the Abilene Elks Club, Eagles Club, and the Cabin Club. Gary was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife Patricia of the home. Threedaughters: Barb Karraker (Devin) of Abilene; Bev Stillwagon (Rick) of St. George, Kansas; and Becky Stout (James Jr.) of Abilene. Grandchildren: Hannah Wilcox; Kayleigh Karraker; Hayden Karraker (Jillian); Courtney Jenkins (Jacob); Breanna Boucher (Tanner); Tristan Stillwagon; Sarah Hoerner (Trey); Sydney Stout; Savannah Stout and Samantha Stout. Great Grandchildren: Malakai and Maddix Wilcox; Ryleigh Karraker; Marlo Karraker; Sawyer, Ryann, and Baylor Jenkins; and Kinzley Boucher. He was proceeded in death by his parents; step mother, Ava Cox; two brothers and their wives, Joe and Joyce Cox and Danny and Linda Cox;step-brother, Max Wendell; and niece, Kelle Enger.

Memorial Services for Gary will be held at 10:00  a.m., Friday December 16th, 2022, at the Abilene First Christian Church. Inurnment will follow at the Hope City Cemetery. Family will receive friends Thursday from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Danner Funeral Home. The family suggests memorials be given to Home Health and Hospice of Dickinson County or the Gary Cox Memorial Fund
