The City of Manhattan says completion of the Manhattan levee improvements and the re-opening of Linear Trail will be celebrated Wednesday.

Local, state, and federal officials will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the completion of Phase I of the Manhattan levee project at 9:30 AM. The project, which is a partnership between the City of Manhattan and the Kansas City District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), will provide crucial flood risk reduction for the city through substantially enhanced reliability and structural integrity.

Construction of Phase I began in the fall of 2021 and was completed this September. The total construction cost of the project, including a future Phase II, is $46.2 million, of which 65 percent was funded by USACE and 35 percent was funded by the City of Manhattan. The ceremony will be an opportunity for partners, stakeholders, and the public to celebrate the completion of this important milestone in the project.
